Warmer season is here which finally allowed me to go outside. I always wanted to photograph model on the street in casual settings, wearing jeans, some bright tshirt and denim jacket. This came true last week. I have been able to photograph Marissa in downtown Oshawa where I am from. The model originally wanted to wear really nice summer dress but unfortunately the weather has been on the chilly side so we optioned for this warmer look and it has payed off.
I would love to invite you to watch behind the scenes and also my commentary to this shoot in one of my youtube videos:

Our photoshoot happened at 3 different locations. First we started in what I call simply “the corner”. I had Marissa literally sitting down, walking, and posing. Since we never worked before I had her first just posing on her own to see what her movements are like. Then eventually I took over and started posing her on my own.
Our second location was graffiti wall. I drove by the other day and I thought it would be interesting background for this shoot. Luckily nobody was there so we were able to steal few minutes to ourselves. There was however 1 car parked which was here and there in a shot. I pulled out an optical prism which can add very interesting effects to the image. I was actually able to get rid off the car with this little tool. Once you bring it closer to the lens you are able to add extra flares and reflections which sometimes cover unwanted elements to your images.
Last location was an abandoned shopping plaza which we found by accident. We literally jumped in car and drove by. This location was very unplanned and unexpected. As it was getting cold and we had to deal with very strong winds, I was trying to work as fast as I could. At this location I didn’t want Marissa pose at all, but rather being herself. I was looking for authentic real emotions, movements where we could see the model she really is inside out. Yes I was using optical prism at this location which added very interesting effect to the images. Sometimes they seemed almost as double exposure photos. But they were not…
Another year is behind us. It was time for me to review once again all fantastic weddings. Thank you again for choosing me to be your wedding photographer. Here is selection of my personally favorite images. I don’t know what I am really looking for in a great image. There are so many reasons I picked these. I really like every single of them. Best of Toronto wedding photography.
Anna & Roderick fell in love with elegant manor and green space around Parkwood Estates in Oshawa. This place is very dear to me as I live in Oshawa myself. This venue has been featured in movies like Billy Madison and X-Men. It is truly beautiful place to visit. Anna & Roderick are very elegant and upscale couple. Their wedding looked just like that. Their wedding ceremony had royal feel to it. Everything from the dress, flowers, decor to their church selection looked spectacular. I have to especially point out that these people know how to party. Take a close look at some of the Ukrainian dancing I was able to photograph. Last photo of the guys with no shoes, socks only performing those high spins made me almost close my eyes… Here is Oshawa Parkwood Estate Wedding.
Living in Canada has one big advantage. You don’t need to physically travel different countries to experience completely exotic moments. I was so thrilled when Cheryl & Alex invited me to photograph their Indo-Caribbean Hindu wedding. I knew it will be colorful which I love. I think you can tell from my style of photography that I simply love colors.
There is also something special to me about this couple. The first time they emailed me, I had immediate connection with them as they were very open and showed their humorous side. Then, when I met them in person. The deal was sealed. We became friends. I do have very nice friendship with most of the couples I photographed, however this one is quite different. They are relaxed, very honest, funny, love to laugh and love life in general. I have a feeling we will stay in touch for a very long time.
So how was the wedding? Long one…:) First day I’ve had the pleasure to photograph their exotic ceremony. I loved the fact it was so intimate. When I came there, I asked where am I allowed to move and photograph as I wasn’t too sure and I don’t want to upset anyone. I was surprised by these words: “You can do absolutely whatever you like. Everyone is welcomed here, you can be wherever you like.” I am normally used to many rules. As you can tell from photos, there were many different cultures. We were invited to sit as close as we could to experience the ceremony with Cheryl & Alex. Here and there I caught myself just staring. I had to remind myself to start taking photos again. It was simply that incredible.
Second day I photographed their official wedding photos and reception which I will introduce next time…
For now, take a look at this spectacular Indo-Caribbean Hindu Wedding from Toronto.
Meet Colleen & Michael. Their wedding was happening on the Tall Ship Kajama in Toronto. Or as they say “Kajama, a traditional 165 foot three masted Schooner boat cruise.” I don’t get a chance to photograph weddings on the ship that often so I was quite looking forward to it. The experience was wonderful. They took us on the lake around Toronto Island. We got the see beautifully lit downtown Toronto at night. Take a look at Kajama Wedding.

Wedding Season is over so I finally have lots of time to be creative again. This winter I am planning to do many digital art photo sessions. Here is one I just finished. A little Children Portrait Photography Session. It is little Martina which wanted to be a “Snow Princess”. I didn’t want the result to be very Disney like so I went ahead and came up with my own version. She is only 4 years old so the challenge was to make her do what I need in front of the camera. She tried her best. She did really well. The shoot was quick here in my Oshawa studio, only about 15 min. I am finding that for this age category it is almost enough for them. Anyhow, I have so many different themes and ideas in my head for all these shoots… and to answer your question, yes I actually offer these shoots to clients as well. All you have to do is come up with theme, or what your child would like to be, we’ll get wardrobe and props and here you go… fantasy theme is here. These children photo sessions are great if you want to print it on canvas or frame it to decorate your child’s room or simply give this as a present to someone close to your heart.
It is Tuesday which means VIDEO Tuesday. That is right. I have created another photography tutorial for my youtube channel where I discuss topic “How to contact models and do I pay them?” For this video I invited professional contemporary, ballet and hip hop dancer Sebastian Bash Hirtenstein (Instagram @bash416ix) to my studio. We’ve created some amazing photos and had a chit chat… check out the video below..

The weather has been so bad in Toronto that I was forced to shoot quite a bit in my studio. To be honest, I cannot wait to finally go outside again. This session was a special one. I’ve asked model and actor Jim Jenkinson (Instagram: @jamesmjenkinson) to come and join me for a dramatic portraits photography session. He has this look which is so popular right now. The hair style and full beard. We went with a very formal look for our first set. For the second set, I asked him what makes him different and unique from others. He simply set, I do own dress of Scotland. SOLD! I loved the idea and wanted to try it out in photos. I also made a video for my youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/zdenkam) where I show behind the scenes, give out some photography tips with a twist! We sat down and discussed some Scottish vocabulary so check it out and get entertained.

Best of Engagement Photography Toronto 2018. When I started working as a photographer, taking photos of couples was highly intimidating to me. These days, I have to only smile when I remember the way I felt. It is the opposite now. I absolutely love doing Engagement Photography. There are so many reasons behind it. Every person is different, every couple is different. You get to see very close look on their relationship. My job as a photographer is to find their intimate side, show their happiness, reactions and love. My goal is to capture their relations, capture what unique makes them as a couple. When I plan all Engagement Photography Sessions I always ask the couple: “Who are you? What makes you special as a couple? What do you love doing together?” I am not a fan of just boring walking in a park type of photos.. I love placing the couples in their comfortable settings, whether they live in Toronto, GTA, Oshawa or other place. Here is a mix of Best of Engagement Photography:
I have to thank all the couples which let me to look into their private life and allowed me to capture their happy moments. Wishing you all the best!
