The benefits of Vitamin C for your skin are many – too many to ignore. We all want to find the fountain of youth, right? Healthy, young-looking skin is a common desire many people share – especially women, and it tends to become more important to us as we get older. For many of us, the condition of our skin can make or break our self-confidence, so skin care is about so much more than simple outward appearance. The trouble is, there is no magic solution to keep your skin looking young and healthy. However, decades of research have shown that dedicated use of Vitamin C skin care products can produce positive results with regard to reversing the common signs of aging. We’ve Always Known Vitamin C is Powerful You don’t have to be a healthcare professional to know that Vitamin C is good for you – after all, its beneficial boost to your immune system has been well-known since as far back as the 1940’s, and advertisers plaster its health benefits across products ranging from orange juice to chewing gum. Chances are, you grew up associating Vitamin C with a natural way to fend off illness and strengthen your immunity to germs. However, this antioxidant is no one-trick pony. If you’re looking for a powerhouse skin care ingredient – one that can truly change the look and feel of your skin – Vitamin C has your back. That’s right, the same ol’ C that boosts your immune system and wards off the common cold offers tremendous skin care benefits, not the least of which is its many anti-aging properties. Sounds good, right? Let’s dive into some of the details of the benefits of Vitamin C for your skin. 6 Benefits of Vitamin C for Your Skin Vitamin C Prevents UV Damage Vitamin C works to thicken the dermis layer of the skin – the layer right under our epidermis, or top layer. The dermis is made up of mostly collagen and elastin, and it’s a thick and flexible connective tissue that protects the body from stress and strain. Bonus: it also helps protect our skin from absorbing harmful UV rays. We already know the sun is not our friend when it comes to healthy, happy skin, so it’s extremely beneficial to have Vitamin C fending off the rays for us. However, it’s also important to note that Vitamin C is not a replacement for sunscreen, as it does not adequately protect the top layer of our skin from sun damage, so don’t give up your SPF routine! Vitamin C Fights Free Radicals It’s not an overstatement to say that everywhere you go, your skin is under attack. It’s scary, but true! Every day, our skin is exposed to free radicals – toxins released as natural byproducts of oxygen metabolism – and they can cause significant damage to living cells, especially in our skin. Free radicals damage the proteins that help make up our skin, as well as our actual cell membranes. This can lead to cell breakdown that causes premature signs of aging, like fine lines and wrinkles. Luckily, antioxidants fight the effects of protein and cell membrane damage, and Vitamin C is a superhero antioxidant in this way. Our pal C puts up her dukes to provide a one-two punch against our free radical foes, helping to renew our skin each day. Vitamin C Boosts Collagen Production and Improves Skin Firmness Collagen is a naturally-occurring protein in the body that helps our skin remain strong, elastic and hydrated. As we age, our bodies naturally begin to produce less collagen, which can lead to our skin to becoming weaker, dryer and – gasp! – wrinkled. Vitamin C stimulates our bodies to produce greater amounts of collagen, thereby fending off the effects of weak, dry and aging skin. By making skin stronger and firmer, Vitamin C and collagen are perfect partners in helping to prevent fine lines and wrinkles, and they even help to reduce the pesky skin imperfections we already have. Vitamin C Prevents Hyperpigmentation Hyperpigmentation occurs when sun damage causes portions of your skin to become darker or spotty. This term is used to describe a host of skin issues, including age spots, liver spots and that weird, blotchy look (you know the one!) you sometimes have after a summer spent catching rays. All of these types of hyperpigmentation are due to an excess production of melanin in your skin, which is common with extreme sun exposure. Luckily, Vitamin C works to combat – and even reverse – dark spots by inhibiting production of the enzyme tyrosinase, which in turn works to prevent or slow melanin production. This is why so many people successfully use Vitamin C for skin lightening. Vitamin C Reduces the Appearance of Scars If you’ve been suffering with noticeable scars from acne or an injury, you know how deeply it can affect your self-confidence. You may have even tried all manner of harsh products meant to heal acne or erase scars, all the while damaging your delicate skin in the process. If this sounds like you, Vitamin C may offer a solution worth exploring. In the same ways that Vitamin C corrects hyperpigmentation caused by sun damage, it can also reduce an altered skin pigment around an existing scar. Vitamin C Brightens Your Complexion Even if hyperpigmentation or scarring aren’t causes of concern for you, you may have some redness or other natural unevenness of color in our skin – this is very common! Vitamin C’s potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties can even out your skin tone and reduce redness, while also providing an overall brighter complexion. And who among us doesn’t want a more vibrant glow, am I right? Vitamin C: the Ultimate Anti-Aging Warrior Given all the ways Vitamin C can benefit your skin and combat the effects of aging, you might say that Vitamin C is the superhero of the vitamin world! If you’re looking for something new to add to your skin care routine, and anti-aging benefits are important to you, a skin care product with Vitamin C may be worth trying. Are you having success using Vitamin C products in your skin care routine? Please comment below to share your experience!
I’m happy to bring you my Meaningful Beauty review of this super model skincare line. I can’t believe this line has been around for over 10 years and I’m just now trying it! I ordered the Meaningful Beauty 5-piece system online for $39.95 which also included two free products (how cute is that packaging?!) But is Meaningful Beauty honestly an outstanding skincare line, or is this just another celebrity trying to bank? And is Meaningful Beauty considered a “safe” skincare line or is it full of toxins like added fragrance, mineral oils and Parabens? Keep reading before you sign up for the offer on late night TV to see if this is right for you… The Meaningful Beauty Story When I was a teenager, Cindy Crawford was one of the world’s top supermodels. She was gorgeous then, and she’s hardly aged at all! She’s 48 years old and her skin looks astonishingly youthful and radiant. This is ultimately why I decided to try this line and write this Meaningful Beauty review, I had to know what the heck she was using! Her secret is said to be her relationship with Dr. Jean-Louis Sebagh, known as a world expert in medical anti-aging, and the two revolutionary anti-aging ingredients he formulated exclusively for Meaningful Beauty. Since its inception, Meaningful Beauty’s claim to fame has been a powerful super anti-oxidant or “youth molecule” extracted from a rare melon from the southern coast of France. More recently, Dr. Sebagh made a new discovery in the same region of a rare orchid known for thriving in harsh conditions. These rare and beautiful orchids often live for more than 100 years due to their remarkable longevity molecules. They’ve apparently been able to isolate these longevity molecules into “youth messengers” within the Meaningful Beauty line to give your skin the same benefit. Meaningful Beauty 5-Piece System + 2 Free Gifts Below is my Meaningful Beauty review of each of the five pieces that I received, plus the two free gifts. The first shipment I received had sizes equivalent for one month of use (larger than travel size, but not a full size). The way the membership works is the first shipment is smaller, and then they ship you full sizes every 90 days, so you have to realize up front this is a membership. Cindy’s Daily Routine I want to show you the insert that came with my package. It’s actually waterproof, so you can keep it in your bathroom and not worry about it getting wet. This step by step guide shows you exactly what you should use in the morning and at night and is what I reference in my review. Meaningful Beauty Skin Softening Cleanser The Skin Softening cleanser is a gentle, creamy cleanser that whisks away makeup and impurities while leaving the skin soft, hydrated and feeling refreshed. The formula is oil-free and fragrance-free (so that’s good) and contains a unique apple extract that helps minimize the signs of aging and is designed not to strip the skin of essential moisture. It’s gentle enough to be used alone as a makeup remover, yet strong enough to strip away dirt and debris. This was the first product I tried in the Meaningful Beauty line, and my face felt really soft and clean. You can either apply to a dry face and remove with a warm washcloth, or you can apply to wet skin. Meaningful Beauty Crème de Sérum This is said to be Cindy’s most loved product! The presentation of this serum is a beautiful intertwined mix of both a potent serum and a rich, moisturizing cream. Crème de Sérum contains the rare melon extract along with peptides, hyaluronic acid, collagen and Vitamin C, all of which are extremely beneficial for fighting the aging process and protecting from environmental elements. I followed Cindy’s instructions and used this one at night after cleansing. Two small pumps was all I needed to moisturize my entire face and neck. It feels luxurious and has a light, sweet smell. It does list “added fragrance/parfum” on the ingredients list, which can be a no-go for some. Fragrance can be an irritant to the skin (I mostly avoid it). It’s designed to promote a smoother, more even toned, radiant complexion while leaving the skin very soft and supple. I absolutely love the light, silky texture of this cream. It’s all you need for a nighttime treatment, although you can wear it during the day if you like. Meaningful Beauty Ultra Lifting and Filling Treatment Here’s where that rare orchid makes its appearance! The Ultra Lifting and Filling Treatment is a powerful, dual-action anti-aging serum that visibly lifts the skin while also acting as a line filler to smooth out the look of fine lines and wrinkles. The exclusive orchid extract is designed to enhance collagen and elastin production in the skin for a firmer, more lifted look. We all need help with collagen boosting – after you hit 30, collagen production is cut in half and it drops at an alarming rate from there. This serum also contains the rare melon extract, along with the same ingredient most commonly used in injectable fillers to plump, hydrate and fill in the look of lines and wrinkles. This serum has the most delicate floral scent (it also contains “fragrance/parfum”) however it’s last on the ingredients list. This serum just glides over the skin effortlessly and absorbs quickly. I followed Cindy’s instructions and used this serum during the day after cleansing and before applying the Wrinkle Smoothing Capsules and then the SPF 20 Antioxidant Day Cream over both. Meaningful Beauty Wrinkle Smoothing Capsules (Free Gift #1) I will say, that the Wrinkle Smoothing Capsules feel amazing and they are probably my favorite product in her skincare lineup. These tiny “time capsules” leave your face feeling instantly smooth and hydrated and have a “blurring” effect that just makes your skin look fabulous even with no makeup on! The only way I can describe how it makes your skin feel is “velvety with a flawless matte finish.” The advanced formula of the capsules contain the exclusive melon extract and work to target facial expression lines, visibly smooth, hydrate, plump, and fight free radical damage. While this one doesn’t contain any added fragrance, it does contain zinc-oxide and methylparabens. As much as I loved the feel of these products, they contain many ingredients that some women avoid like the plague. I used this in the morning after cleansing and after applying the Ultra Lifting and Filling Treatment. It’s super easy to apply – you just break one capsule apart and it gives you just the right amount for your face and neck. I also like the capsule form because it keeps the ingredients fresh and potent – no air touches it until you open it. Meaningful Beauty Antioxidant Day Crème Broad Spectrum SPF 20 I can’t stress enough the importance of using an SPF daily. Nothing will age you faster than the sun’s harmful rays (aside from smoking). The Meaningful Beauty Antioxidant Day Crème Broad Spectrum SPF 20 is meant for daily use. It has a lightweight, micro-emulsion formula that not only protects your skin, but treats your skin with a powerful blend of antioxidants to protect against premature aging. The Day Creme smells similar to the Crème de Sérum (it has some added fragrance even though it’s last on the list), however it did leave my skin with a greasy feel so I didn’t enjoy using this one all that much. The bigger issue I have with Cindy’s sunscreen is that it contains many questionable SPF ingredients that we are learning more about daily that we should probably avoid. The biggest offender on the ingredients list is Oxybenzone which has a remarkably bad rating of 8 on the EWG’s Skin Deep website. An 8 is within the “high hazard” zone (7-10). There are much safer SPF options with a better feel in my opinion. Sorry Cindy! Meaningful Beauty Glowing Serum (Free Gift #2) The Glowing Serum is a powerful lightweight serum designed to leave your complexion with an instant glow. Dr. Sebaugh calls this the “model’s secret” since it gives an instant look of radiance! The Glowing Serum contains pumpkin extract, potent firming agents, Vitamin C (powerful free radical scavenger) and soy protein for radiantly youthful looking skin. The serum has a similar feel to the Ultra Lifting and Filling Treatment – lightweight and absorbs nicely into the skin. It definitely gives a boost to dull looking skin. I used it one day when I was feeling/looking a little tired and it gave me a nice glow. It’s subtle but you can tell a difference when you use it. Your skin will feel moisturized and a bit more dewy! Feeling “dewy” however, can be too heavy of a feel for some. Meaningful Beauty Lifting Eye Crème The Lifting Eye Crème is a multi tasking product designed to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, reduce puffiness, reduce dark circles, moisturize and firm. This is a gentle eye treatment that you can use both underneath your eyes and on the upper eyelids. Thankfully this eye treatment is fragrance free so it didn’t bother my eyes. This creme has a silky, light feel and absorbs nicely. It immediately plumped up those pesky fine lines around my eyes and had a nice, smooth feel. The Lifting Eye Crème contains its signature ingredient, the rare melon extract, which quenches dry skin and fights free radicals with its anti-oxidant powers, along with Omega 6 to strengthen skin, grape seed extract to soothe and moisturize, and an anti-puffiness agent. However it does contains those pesky Parabens and also alcohol. Note: If you have deeper wrinkles or crow’s feet, Meaningful Beauty also has an “Eye Enhancing Serum” that is meant to be used underneath the Lifting Eye Crème, or alone. So, you could swap out a product for this one, or add it on to make your special order perfect! Where to Buy Meaningful Beauty You can purchase the 5-piece set that I bought for $39.95 from the Meaningful Beauty Official Website. There is also a 7-piece set for $49.95 which is a great deal since you will receive 2 free gifts no matter which package you choose. You can also purchase these sets from Ulta but they are more expensive. The 5 piece set at Ulta is $54 and the 7 piece set $79. Once you order the initial 30 day supply, they will later send you the larger sized products which you’ll receive every 90 days, so be aware that this is a membership if you buy it from Meaningful Beauty. You have the choice of spreading the payments out (keeping on a monthly billing schedule) or just having them bill you every 90 days. It’s just a personal preference. They offer a money back guarantee so even if you’ve used the products they will give you a full refund if you’re not happy. Meaningful Beauty Review & Recommendation I enjoyed trying Meaningful Beauty and most of the products had a nice feel, and it’s affordable for what you get. While Meaningful Beauty seems to use many high quality ingredients that are good for anti-aging, I simply cannot get past all the added fragrance, Parabens, and phthalates in every single formula. And as far as the SPF, I know better now than to use such toxic SPF creams. If you do a google search on “Is Meaningful Beauty safe” I think you’d be rather surprised of the backlash Cindy receives for the ingredients she still chooses to use in her skincare. Some women are very mindful of avoiding any and all potential toxins or hormone disruptors in skincare (including myself), while others don’t really get that choosy and just want something that works that they enjoy using. So it’s ultimately up to you to decide, but ultimately I would not purchase again nor would I use these products long-term. I’m hoping that one day Cindy...
After two months of consistent use, I’m happy to share my Beautycounter Countercontrol review with you. My skin has improved! As an adult suffering with moderate acne I am always interested in trying new skin care routines. I was told about the Beautycounter Countercontrol Collection and had to give it a try. I was drawn in by the reviews stating 95% of users said they had clearer skin after 4 weeks of treatment. What encouraged me to try this skincare line was the healthy ingredients and additional anti-aging ingredients for overall skin health. And I wasn’t satisfied with my previous results using Curology. How is Beautycounter Countercontrol Different? Beautycounter has a list called The Never List which consists of more then 1,500 chemicals or questionable ingredients that they never use in their products. It’s scary to think that there are a lot of products available with these ingredients that most people don’t know about. The Beautycounter Countercontrol Collection consists of five different products formulated to target acne prone skin while also hydrating and nourishing, while containing nothing harmful. Beautycounter Countercontrol Clear Pore Cleanser The Countercontrol Clear Pore Cleanser is a daily cleanser. I love the way this cleanser smells, it has a citrus scent to it and perks me up in the morning. Other acne cleansers I have used normally make my skin feel tight after using. This cleanser gave me a clean skin feeling without the tightness. How I use this product I use this cleanser in the morning and at night. At night I use this with my Clarisonic Mia which gives me a deep clean feeling. Why it works: This cleanser contains a SkinBalance Complex with aloe vera that helps remove oil, makeup and other impurities that cause breakouts Jojoba beads assist in removing dead skin cells Leaves skin feeling clean, balanced, and not stripped of moisture Beautycounter Countercontrol Instant Matte Toner The Countercontrol Instant Matte Toner is a toner that removes any residual impurities left on the skin. This is an alcohol free toner that contains witch hazel and vitamin B5 which helps to eliminate excess oil, mattifies the skin and minimizes pores. How I use this product I apply this to a cotton pad and swipe it over my face after using the cleanser. I use this in the morning and at night. Why it works: Helps to purify skin without stripping moisture Helps control oil and minimizes the appearance of pores Contains SkinBalance Complex to give skin refreshed feeling Removes impurities left on skin Beautycounter Countercontrol All Over Acne Treatment The Countercontrol All Over Acne Treatment is a gel-based treatment formulated to help clear existing breakouts and prevent new ones. How I use this product I apply one pump all over my face after the toner. I use this in the morning and at night. At first, I didn’t think one pump would be enough. But one pump is just enough product to cover my entire face. Why it works: Contains plant-based salicylic acid that helps clear breakouts and keeps skin clear Contains SkinBalance Complex that keeps skin clean and healthy Beautycounter Countercontrol Matte Effect Gel Cream The Countercontrol Matte Effect Gel Cream is a cream-to-gel moisturizer. This product is essential to keeping skin balanced and hydrated. It helps to improve skins texture without harmful pore clogging ingredients. This is an oil-free moisturizer that helps to maintain your skins moisture levels while controlling oil up to eight hours. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends using oil free and non-comedogenic sources of moisture since it is unlikely to cause acne. How I use this product I apply one pump all over my face after applying the acne treatment. I use this in the morning and at night. This cream feels like a makeup primer with a light texture. It makes my skin feel very soft and it seems to help keep my makeup on. The gel has a weightless feel to it. Why it works: Helps control oil for up to eight hours Hydrates skin without a greasy feel to it Improves the skin’s texture without silicone that can clog pores Contains SkinBalance Complex of wintergreen and rosebay willow Beautycounter Countercontrol SOS Acne Spot Treatment The Countercontrol SOS Acne Spot Treatment is a formula that helps reduce existing blemishes. The formula is gentle enough that it won’t dry out the skin. How I use this product It is recommended to use this product as needed on blemishes. I use this product only at night on blemishes to spot treat any new breakouts. When I tried to use this before applying makeup it seemed to come off and not stay on the blemish. When I use it at night as my final step it worked best and does a good job at healing new breakouts quickly. Why it works: Contains 2% maximum strength salicylic acid that helps clear existing blemishes Contains SkinBalance Complex to help skin without over drying it Works to reduce redness, irritation and blemish size Beautycounter Countercontrol Review & Results The Beautycounter Countercontrol Collection took me on a slight rollercoaster. In the beginning my skin seemed to be breaking out more! I felt very discouraged and wanted to give up. However, after doing some research on this line I learned that there was a chance that my skin could become worse before it got better. I wanted to give it a fair chance because it contains healthy ingredients that improve your overall complexion. I used Beautycounter Countercontrol for a month before I started to see results, and after the month was over my skin stopped breaking out as often as it was before, and overall my skin is much more calm with less redness and a more smooth, even texture. After using this line for 8 weeks, my skin looks and feels so much healthier! With other acne product lines my skin would feel tight and dry. At the time, I thought this was a good thing. I thought tighter, dryer skin would mean less oil production, but I was wrong. It seems that when you over dry the skin it tends to produce even more oil, which can result in more breakouts. It’s all about balance in the skin. With the Countercontrol Collection, all the products are formulated to hydrate and nourish the skin. Finding the perfect hydration level while controlling and fighting blemishes is essential to healthy skin, especially acne prone skin. I love the citrus smell that the products have to them and it seems to wake me up in the morning. Overall I’m really happy with my results so far and that’s why I wanted to write this Beautycounter Countercontrol review. How to Purchase Beautycounter Countercontrol and Price The full Beautycounter Countercontrol Collection comes with all 5 of the products that I’ve been using and costs $140. I’ve been using these products for over two months now and still have product left. The sizes are generous for the money spent. There is a smaller set called Countercontrol Regimen for $120 ( but without the SOS Acne Spot Treatment). You can also buy any product within the collection separately, but I would recommend using these products together for best results. Beautycounter Countercontrol Collection is a complete skin care system with ingredients that work in harmony for healthier, clearer skin. Shop Beautycounter Skincare Here
The Iluma Intense Brightening Creme is a daily moisturizer made by Image Skincare, one of my absolute favorite skincare lines! With a targeted formula to lighten, brighten, and give the skin a more even and radiant complexion, the Iluma Intense Brightening Creme contains an exclusive lightening complex to help fade the appearance of age spots and hyperpigmentation. Image Skincare makes so many amazing skincare items, I really could go on and on. But ever since I’ve tried the Iluma line, I’m seeing great results! I also use the Iluma Intense Brightening Eye Creme – using both of these products together has really made a difference in my skin for a more youthful appearance and more even skin tone. A Little About Image Skincare Image Skincare is based in Palm Beach, Florida – right around the corner from me! When I was in cosmetology and esthetician school, our skincare teacher was obsessed with Image Skincare. Thank you Ms. Erin for introducing me to this line! When she showed us the brand, it was really like she was carrying a trophy! This was 10 years ago though when they only had 3 lines with the Vital C line being one of them (and still one of their best sellers). Image Skincare does have some stronger, medical grade products and peels which are only available in select spas and medical clinics. However they do sell their most popular lines on their website, including the Iluma Intense Brightening Creme and the entire Iluma line. Iluma Intense Brightening Creme Ingredients and Why They Work TARGETS: MILD TO MODERATE PIGMENTATION PHOTO AGING SUN DAMAGE SUN SPOTS REDNESS INGREDIENTS: VECTORIZE technology which creates a time release up to 48 hours. Revinage (Bidense pilosa) is like Retinoid, without the side effects! It reduces age spots up to 36%! Making the Switch to Iluma Before I switched to using the Iluma Intense Brightening Creme, I was using Jennifer Bradley Clearly Younger moisturizer. It was hydrating and smelled very clean, but I wasn’t seeing many results. I went to my sisters house (Rachel from Women’s Blog Talk) and saw that she had a new moisturizer: the Iluma Intense Brightening Creme. I took a small pump (that’s really all you need) and instantly loved it! At first try, I felt a deeper level of moisture, and it felt so clean. No greasiness or residue afterwards. Over time I started to see a difference in the life of my skin. It was indeed making my skin more even toned and brighter! As a makeup artist, my makeup needs to ALWAYS look good! I’m constantly working on improving my skin for that J.Lo glow! The Iluma Intense Brightening Creme works with all foundations and concealers for easy application. Directions for Use and Product Cost Iluma Intense Brightening Creme is to be used morning and night and is made for all skin types. I love prepping my skin with the Image Skincare Max cleanser which I’ve used for years. It’s gentle and doesn’t strip the skin of moisture. To apply the creme, you wet your fingers, pump one pump out of the the bottle, and massage over face and neck. One pump is enough and I like that a pump keeps the ingredients fresh. You can use this brightening moisturizer with any other Image Skincare products and I love using it as my daily moisturizer. Use this before or after eye cream, but always after serum. I apply it before my primer, letting the moisturizer set in first, and then apply my makeup. The product costs $85.00 plus shipping and you can buy it at the Image Skincare website. Image Skincare warns of fakes on Amazon – it’s always best to buy from the manufacturer. I hope you enjoyed my Image Skincare Iluma Intense Brightening Creme review!
I decided to try the BareMinerals Blemish Rescue Skin-Clearing Loose Powder because my current makeup was not helping. I struggle with adult acne and one thing I hear a lot from people is that I need to give my skin a break from wearing makeup – to let it breathe. For people that don’t deal with daily breakouts this is easy to say! If your skin looks good with or without makeup, count your lucky stars. Unfortunately for someone who struggles with daily breakouts like me, this is an impossible thing to do. Go out into public without any makeup?! It is difficult for me to do this because I am already very self conscious of my breakouts. Covering them with makeup is the only way I feel confident facing the world. With that said, I decided to to find a makeup that would benefit my skin rather than create more breakouts. While searching I came across the BareMinerals Blemish Rescue Skin-Clearing Loose Powder and wanted to share my review. BareMinerals Blemish Rescue Powder – How is it Different? The BareMinerals Blemish Rescue Powder comes in the same packaging as the regular BareMinerals loose foundations. What makes it different is that it contains salicylic acid, a known effective ingredient in most acne regimes. Salicylic acid is known to help clear acne as well as other ingredients which help fight acne throughout the day. How I use BareMinerals Blemish Rescue Powder In the morning I cleanse my skin with my anti acne cleanser, apply a primer and then I tap a small amount of the powder into the cap. I take my buffing brush and swirl it around to capture the minerals onto the brush, and tap it a few times to remove any excess powder that didn’t get captured. Once the minerals are on the brush I buff it onto my skin. For light coverage I use less and for full coverage I add more. BareMinerals Blemish Rescue Powder Ingredients Why It Works: Contains 0.5% salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is used to reduce inflammation that is caused by acne as well as reduce oily skin that creates acne. Oat protein helps to nourish skin and calm skin. Zinc helps to clear the bacteria that is causing the acne. Kaolin clay is an oil absorbing mineral that removes excess oil and impurities from the skin to help reduce acne. Phytosphingosine is an antibacterial and anti inflammatory that assists in treating acne. I didn’t see any ingredients listed in the BareMinerals Blemish Rescue Powder that should be avoided according to acne.org and they also mention that red light therapy is a good treatment for acne. My experience with BareMinerals Blemish Rescue Powder When I purchased this foundation I was worried that it might make make my skin very dry and flaky since it contains salicylic acid. The daily cleanser I use also contains salicylic acid. I was prepared for dry flakey skin but when I tried this foundation the next day I was surprised with the results. My skin was not dry – it felt good almost like I didn’t have any makeup on. This product claims to provide breathable coverage which is exactly what I was looking for and exactly how it feels on the skin. The BareMinerals Blemish Rescue Powder helped to cover up my existing breakouts without feeling like I had a lot of makeup sitting on my skin. At the end of the day when it was time to remove the powder, I used a makeup towelette. I figured it wouldn’t have much on it because powders always seem to come off during the day, so I was surprised to see that the BareMinerals Blemish Rescue Powder stayed on throughout the day (my makeup towelette was covered). My skin is still oily but not as much as it used to be. I feel like the ingredients in the BareMinerals Blemish Rescue Powder are helping to reduce the amount of oil that my skin is producing which helps to reduce the acne. As far as my breakouts are concerned, I am still experiencing breakouts but not as bad as before. I feel better about applying this makeup because I know with all the acne fighting ingredients it is not clogging my pores like a regular foundation might. Where to Buy BareMinerals Blemish Rescue Powder I purchased the BareMinerals Blemish Rescue Powder at Sephora for $29. I wasn’t sure which color I would need because they have 20 different shades. I requested to be color matched and purchased the medium beige 2.5N color. Reviews for this product: I always like to do research on products before I buy them. This helps to eliminate making another trip back to the store for a return. The manufacturer always makes the product sound phenomenal in the description so I rely on the reviews posted by actual people that have tried the product. A majority of users on Sephora’s website gave the Bare Minerals Blemish Rescue Powder 4 and 5 stars which encouraged me even more to try this. The reviews were promising because a lot of people were stating that they loved the natural coverage this provided. Overall I am happy with my results so far using the BareMinerals Blemish Rescue Powder and would recommend it to others!
I wanted to write this Image Skincare Clear Cell review to talk about the products I’ve used for the past two years and specifically what they help with! I started using the Clear Cell line to help cleanse my skin as well as keep my acne under control. I tend to breakout on my cheeks and jawline, and most of the time they are small to moderate breakouts. There are times when I will get a cystic breakout and the Clear Cell line seems to heal these breakouts better than other acne lines I have previously used. Shop Image Skincare on their Official Amazon Page Clear Cell Salicylic Gel Cleanser The Clear Cell Salicylic Gel Cleanser comes in a pump and is a foaming cleanser that lathers away sebum and excess oil and gently exfoliates without stripping the skin. It contains salicylic acid which is a proven acne fighting ingredient. How I use this product At night I use a makeup remover wipe followed by the Clear Cell salicylic gel cleanser with my Clarisonic Mia which helps lather up the gel cleanser. I like this cleanser because it helps remove any makeup that is left on my skin as well as making my skin feel clean without drying it out. How I use this product After drying my skin, I use the salicylic clarifying pads. These pads do an amazing job at giving my skin a very deep pore clean feeling. If I feel an outbreak under my skin trying to come out or have an active breakout I hold the pad on the area and it helps to reduce the size of the breakout and the breakout doesn’t last as long as it would without the pads. The pads do sting slightly if I have an active breakout but once it dries the sting goes away, I almost like the stinging feeling because I feel like it is working deep inside the pores and killing the bacteria. If I have an active breakout this lotion helps reduce the redness on my skin and gives it a clean hydrated feeling. I like using this lotion in the morning and at night because it doesn’t dry my skin out like most products do that contain benzoyl peroxide, it provides moisture and helps fight acne causing bacteria that is on my skin. Why it works: Reduces acne blemishes Kills bacteria that causes acne and removes oil Reduces the overproduction of sebum Calms redness and irritation from active and old blemishes Clear Cell Medicated Acne Masque The Clear Cell Medicated Acne Masque contains a great mix of salicylic acid, glycolic acid, clay and antioxidants that helps pull out excess oil and impurities from the skin while reducing redness and calming irritated skin. How I use this product I use the acne masque several times a week at night, it contains a mix of salicylic and glycolic acids that helps to reduce my acne. When I use this mask, I let it dry on my skin for about 15 minutes, as its drying on my skin I feel like it pulls out the impurities from my skin and clears out my pores while keeping my skin soft. Once I remove it with warm water it gives a light exfoliation as well which makes my skin feel extra soft and clean. I have used other masks in the past that tend to make my skin dry and irritated after removing it. This mask does the opposite, it pulls out the impurities and helps reduce any redness on my skin while leaving the skin soft and clean. Why it works: Reduces acne blemishes Kills bacteria that causes acne and removes oil Absorbs excess sebum and oil Helps to counteract the effect of dryness Calms redness and irritation from active and old blemishes Image Skincare Clear Cell Review Conclusion The Image Skincare Clear Cell line has helped keep my acne under control for the past two years. I still get breakouts but with this skincare line the breakouts seem to heal a lot faster and they don’t get as bad and cystic as they did in the past. With other acne products that I have used there is usually a period of time that you have to go through which includes drying, peeling and redness because the skin is adapting to the product. With the Clear Cell line, I didn’t experience any of this. The products never made my skin go through that bad before good period of time. The products all sooth the sensitive acne skin while providing the right amount of moisture and acne killing ingredients. I stopped using Clear Cell for a while to give Curology a try (an online RX treatment and you can read my review there) but overall the Clear Cell line worked more effectively for me and I will continue to use these products. Thanks for reading my Clear Cell review, it’s definitely a great line to try! Clearasil Ultra Overnight Spot Patches Review I was on the computer the other day and I came across a product that I wish I would have found years ago – Clearasil Ultra Overnight Spot Patches, and this is my personal review. I feel like I research something and get excited about it and when I try it I am let down because it doesn’t deliver the results I expected. I am excited to say that I have found something that works for zapping a zip overnight! The product is Clearasil Ultra Overnight Spot Patches which claims to heal pimples overnight. I feel like I have tried everything, so I decided to give these a try considering they were cheap at Target. Before I purchased them, I did some research on what these patches were and why they claim to heal a pimple overnight. The main advantage to these is the hydrocolloid technology they provide, which I will explain later. The box comes with 18 small adhesive patches that almost look like small, circular Band-Aids. Clearasil Ultra Overnight Spot Patches How to Use How I used them: I washed my face to remove all my makeup and then used a toner to remove any remaining traces of makeup. Once my skin was dry I took one of the patches and applied it to the pimple and rubbed it on to make sure it was securely on. When I placed it on the pimple it was slightly raised because the pimple I was getting was a cystic one, so it was painful and raised up on my skin. Clearasil Ultra Overnight Spot Patches Results My Personal Results: I left the Clearasil Ultra Overnight Spot Patches on overnight and when I woke up I was amazed to the results I saw! The raised pimple was flat and no longer painful. The patch had raised up where the pimple was and seemed to suck all the gunk out of the pimple. See the picture below. I removed the patches and put them on a black background so you can see the gunk that was pulled out of my pimples! Disregard the Bare Minerals…I just used that to demonstrate since it had a black background. Seeing what was pulled out of my pimple overnight was satisfying! I was happy the infection was pulled out of the pore and no longer festering! How the Clearasil Ultra Overnight Spot Patches Work Hydrocolloid Technology Explained The Clearasil Ultra Overnight Spot Patches have hydrocolloid technology which after researching this it basically means once placed on the pimple they seal out any bacteria from getting into the skin. By using this patch on a pimple, it also helps to reduce the inflammation that is present and helps the pimple heal quicker while absorbing the puss, oil and secretion that is in the pimple. These are also very beneficial to people that tend to pick at pimples. By having this patch over the pimple it prevents any unnecessary touching or picking at the pimple. The Clearasil Ultra Overnight Spot Patches are small enough that you could almost put one on your skin during the day without it being overly noticeable, but as the gunk starts to come to a head, it is a bit more noticeable. Once I removed the patch from the pimple the patch turned a little white and got slightly puffy and fat where the pimple was being covered. The reason for this is because it sucked the nastiness out of the pimple and transferred it from the skin to the patch. In the past I would use a spot treatment if I felt a pimple coming on, but this would usually result in dry flaky skin and irritate my skin even more and take even longer for the pimple to heal. Would I Recommend the Clearasil Ultra Overnight Spot Patches? The Clearasil Ultra Overnight Spot Patches are great because they do not dry the skin out at all and they are not painful to remove from the skin. The whole concept to these makes sense because a pimple is basically an infected pore and when you cut yourself and get an infected cut usually it is covered with a band aid to help it heal. This is the same concept except these contain hydrocolloid which to me is just a slightly thicker band aid which is placed on a pimple to help speed up the healing process. I would recommend the Clearasil Ultra Overnight Spot Patches to heal a pimple or two overnight. They worked great for me as an overnight spot treatment but would not be effective as an overall acne treatment. It wouldn’t be cost effective to cover your whole face in patches nor would it treat your entire face. You need more than just a pimple patch to fight the ongoing battle of acne, and you can read about my experience using Curology here, but for a quick zit zap, I think these work well! Curology Review My Reason for Trying Curology and My Personal Experience I decide to write a Curology review since I have been struggling with acne for several years and I feel like I have tried just about everything from prescription to over the counter acne regimes. About a month ago I woke up to more breakouts then normal and felt extremely frustrated with my skin and wanted to crawl back into bed and call in sick to work because I didn’t feel very confident in myself and just felt down. I decided to pull myself together and get ready to go into work. As I was sitting at work scrolling through my Instagram I came across an ad for an acne product called Curology. The pictures that they had in the Curology ad showing different peoples before and after photos were amazing, but I wasn’t sold on just that because the pictures they show in ads always look amazing. I wanted to do more research on the company and see what Curology was all about, so I did. However, after using Curology for five weeks, I wasn’t satisfied with my results so I started using Countercontrol. Step 1: Curology Consultation When I went to the Curology website they ask you to create an account, once you have an account created they ask you a lot of questions about your skin and previous treatments that you have tried. These questions range from things like how many breakouts do you currently have, where on your face are the breakouts, what type of breakout is it, cystic or small pimples. They then ask about all the different topicals as well as oral medications that are available for acne to see if you have tried these before. They want to know the dosage that you took as well as how it worked. Once the questionnaire is completed they request several pictures of your face, so they can see what the breakouts look like. I felt like this was very similar to going to a dermatologist but the good part about this is I didn’t have to pay a co-pay when I left! Once the questions and pictures were completed a licensed medical provider reviewed my account to determine the best treatment for my skin. Step 2: Treatment Plan Within a few hours I received an email from my own licensed medical provider explaining the treatment plan they have for my skin. The bottle they felt would be best for my skin contained the following ingredients: · Tretinoin 0.009% · Clindamycin 1% · Azelaic Acid 9% This product was to be put on my face at night after my normal cleansing routine. All three of these ingredients are only available by prescription. What is Tretinoin? Tretinoin is a retinoid derived from vitamin A and it helps the skin get rid of old, dead skin cells that essentially end up clogging your pores and helps the skin replace them with new healthy skin cells. I have tried Tretinoin in the past when I went to the dermatologist, they prescribed 0.3% strength. When I was using this at night my skin was very dry and patchy and never seemed to get past that stage even after giving it a fair trial run for 14 weeks. Tretinoin also has been known to help with aging skin and helps the skin to produce more collagen. What is Clindamycin? Clindamycin is a topical antibiotic that is used to kill the bacteria that causes acne as well as help the inflammation that acne causes. Just like the Tretinoin I was prescribed Clindamycin when I went to the dermatologist and they prescribed 1% strength. I gave this a fair trial run for 14 weeks as well when I was using the Tretinoin from the dermatologist, but I didn’t see a change in my skin, so I stopped using it. What is Azelaic Acid? This is something that I have never heard of and honestly this was my main reason for giving Curology a try. Azelaic Acid helps the skins process of creating the correct amount of new skin cells, overproduction and underproduction causes breakouts. It is also a great product to help keep the production of bacteria down, with less bacteria the acne is unable to thrive and multiply. Azelaic Acid also helps to clean up leftover breakout dark spots that are left behind on the skin or spots from the sun as well as reduces inflammation on the skin. Step 3: The Journey This is a special area on my dashboard when I log into their site that was made to upload pictures of the left, right and front of my face to show what my skin looks like. I was hesitant at first to add pictures because I hate seeing breakouts on my face, but then I realized the only way to see if the product is working or not is to take pictures every few days so that I have something to look back at and determine if the product is working. It is also beneficial for the medical providers to be able to look at the pictures to see the progress that my skin is making and determine if the mixture they created is the right one or if they need to adjust it. My Experience with Curology – Getting Started I filled out my questionnaire on July 7, 2018 and received my first bottle on July 9, 2018. The turn around time for this was amazing! Since I am dealing with acne the last thing I wanted to do was sit around and wait a week for my shipment to come, so the fact that it was delivered to me this quick amazed me. I was excited to start using this because just like every other product I try I think this is the one, my skin is going to be back to the way it was before. Week One (7/9/18): I applied a thin layer or my Curology cream after cleansing my face. The cream went on nicely and I was off to bed. I was expecting my skin to get dry, flakey patches from the Tretinoin because it is usually expected while skin adapts to the formula, but my skin seemed the same and almost slightly better. I felt like my skin wasn’t as oily as it usually is around noon. After a few days I felt like my skin was starting to improve and I had fewer breakouts which is always a good feeling. Week Two (7/16/18): Did not see any noticeable changes during this week with my skin. I still had several breakouts, but my skin seemed to look a little more even toned and less oily like week one. Week Three (7/23/18): I felt like my skin was getting worse this week, something I didn’t want to happen but was happening. While looking on the Curology website they have a lot of different articles that explain how the skin can go through a stage called “purging”. This is a stage that the skin goes through when adapting to a new medication and the pores are cleaning themselves out and this can last anywhere from 1-6 weeks. I was upset about the breakouts because I wanted a miracle cream that would fix my skin overnight. But we all know there isn’t an overnight cure, so I continued to use the cream nightly and hoped my purging didn’t last up to 6 weeks. Week Four (7/30/18): Continued to have breakouts this week unfortunately. I contacted the medical provider that was assigned to me asking if the cream for my next shipment could be adjusted because of my breakouts. She told me that she likes to keep people on the same formula for at least 6-8 weeks before changing it. She shared some links that’s helped me understand why my skin is breaking out still and gave me hope that it will get better if I just give it time. I did notice that although I am still getting breakouts my skin doesn’t look as red and irritated as it did a few weeks ago which is good. Week Five (9/6/18): My breakouts seem to be declining which is a huge relief. I am still getting around 1-2 new pimples, but they are not as large and painful as before. And like the previous weeks the overall tone of my skin looks brighter and healthier. Curology Free Trial and Billing How Much Does Curology Cost? Curology starts you off with a free trial bottle, and you just pay shipping of $4.95. After your 30 day trial is up, you choose your subscription plan. Smaller bottles every 30 days: Monthly shipments are $19.95 + $4.95 S&H. Every 30 days you will be shipped a new bottle at $24.90. Larger bottles every 60 days: $39.90 billed on one invoice every 60 days. So it’s the same price whether you receive it every 30 days or every 60 days. This is a picture of the larger bottle I received my second shipment. Curology Reviews Online The reviews for Curology as stated on their website looked good. Here’s what they have posted: Facebook 4.7 out of 5 stars (1,664 reviews) Google 4.8 out of 5 stars (105 reviews) When I went to their Facebook Page to verify, it actually show 4.7 out of 5 stars (2,535 reviews), so my guess is they just haven’t updated their website. Their reviews seem legitimate. Curology Conclusion Overall I’m happy with the service, shipping and treatment plan, I only wish it would have worked better! Hormonal acne in your 30’s is very challenging, so I’ve moved on from Curology and I’ve cancelled my subscription. I’m so tired of being disappointed in my results trying new things! But I feel some hope because I’ve seen a more noticeable improvement in my skin since using the Beautycounter Countercontrol Collection. I like that the set has everything I need for a more complete skin care regimen, and Curology was lacking in that department. Beautycounter doesn’t use any toxic chemicals like surfactants in cleansers that strip the skin and there’s no alcohol in the toner. There’s also no Parabens (which are known hormone disruptors, and I have hormone issues) or phthalates. My skin feels more nourished with less redness and fewer breakouts – overall my skin just looks and feels healthier. Have you tried Curology? Leave your review or comment below.
