Picking accessories for your big day can be exciting yet challenging at the same time because you will always be presented with tons of beautiful treasures to choose from –– think striking jewellery pieces, fancy hair accessories, or elegant hats. I had the chance to ask some amazing wedding planners in Greece like Make Happy Memories about tips and tricks when it comes to choosing fine and dandy bridal accessories on the market. If you are not familiar with this spectacular wedding planning agency, Make Happy Memories is one of the best wedding planners in Greece.

As one of the top wedding planners in Greece, Make Happy Memories, agree that choosing adornments for your big day is both fun and effortful. Having worked side by side with lots of lovely brides for their weddings in Greece, they say that what is important to remember when selecting bridal accessories is that you should always seek for elegant pieces that will complement and enhance your overall wedding look.

If you are a few months or even weeks away from your most awaited day already, do not panic because we have jotted down five dainty accessories that you can use for your big day. Besides this, we have also included some guidelines you can put into mind when deciding on which accessories to use.

1. Hair Clip-ons

If there is something that you should never forget, it is planning your precious hairdo during your big day. You might want to ask yourself, “Do I want to put my hair up or down?”

Whichever hairstyle you decide to execute for your special day, you can always add an elegant clip-on like this to add some zest to your hairstyle. Comely hair clip-ons are usually nice when you have your hair up, but you can always play with your hairstyle of your preference. You may opt to place the clip-on on either side of your head, just ensure that it will pop out and can be seen especially in photographs!

2. Flower Crowns

Flower crowns are absolutely chic. If you are searching for a hair accessory that is totally eye-catching and enchanting, you would want to select lovely blooms in adorable hues that you can use as statement pieces for your flower crown.

Whether you select small or medium-sized flowers, just see to it that the crown itself will not cover your face too much and at the same time are well put together (you wouldn’t want it to keep falling during the nuptial ceremony and after party right!)

3. Striking Earrings

When picking out striking jewellery pieces, it is always best to go for a ravishing pair of earrings that will go well with your whole wedding ensemble. Dazzling, dangling earrings are nice to have especially if you’re keen on wearing a few yet astonishing pieces.

Make a statement by wearing dangling diamonds or pearls. They are truly elegant pieces that will complete your look and will surely make you stand out from the crowd.

4. Elegant Necklace

When it comes to necklaces, it is always best not to overdo it. If your dress is neutral-coloured, it is always nice to select a statement piece like this diamond necklace to go with your wedding dress. If you are eager in going for a jazzy and eye-catching necklace, you might not even need to select dazzling dangling earrings (it might be best to match your necklace with a simple yet beautiful pair of earrings.)

If you’re wearing a coloured dress, you may opt to go for jewellery pieces in gold or rose gold.

5. Veil

When it comes to your wedding veil, always go for a fabric that matches the colour of your lovely wedding gown. You will also need to ensure that you customize your veil with to right length to complement your gown –– you wouldn’t want it to be too short or too long!

Food plays a major role in any celebration, and an even bigger element when it comes to your wedding day. From canapes all the way to the slice of cake, there’s plenty to think about.

There’s certainly no need (or excuse really) to be boring with your selection, as there are almost no rules when it comes to how creative you can be with your wedding menu. It’s time to think outside of the box and opt for what makes you happy…Your guests will thank you!  As you’re mulling over these tasty decisions, take a look at these 5 yummy food trends that are making waves at weddings this year.

Grazing tables

Get your guests talking by offering an oversized grazing table! Plus, who could say no to an assortment of cheeses, breads, meats and other yummy produce laid out in an appetizing display?! We vote YES to this food trend!

Blending seaside beauty and surrounding rolling green hills, this Donegal wedding venue offers the most stunning backdrop for your special day.

The dedicated team at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel hold their fair share of experience in hosting memorable wedding days for each of their valued couples. For any bride or groom, the early stages of planning can seem daunting, but they don’t have to be! Sinead Bradley, wedding coordinator at Inishowen Gateway, shares below her top tips for couples beginning their wedding planning journies…

1. Decide on your budget

Before you book anything, sit down together and decide on a budget.

Put down everything you both want to include as part of your wedding. Things to cover include:

– Number of guests (1st thing to decide on as it will impact the venue choice and so overall budget)
– Preferred venue
– Preferred band plus ceremony music and pre reception music
– Preferred photographer
– Rings
– Outfits including dress and accessories for bridesmaids and groomsmen
– Wedding cake
– Wedding cars
– Flowers
– Make up and Hair
– Drink options for guests
– Favours, add on entertainment such as singing waiters
– Room dressing options

Including everything now and your preferred choices means you can make a realistic budget based on what is important to you both.

If the band is more important than the photos you are left with, then you will prioritise the spend on a big band and vice versa. Price your items out now at the start of the process.

If you are both hoping for a small wedding to keep costs down, then the number of guests is only one way to ensure costs are low, your preferred photographer or band could cost a lot more than you thought.

2. Decide as a couple what is important to each of you and be open to the others choice

Great food and a great band is what your guests will take away as memories. You don’t want hungry guests left waiting too long for their meal (our team of chefs use a private kitchen to prepare and serve your food so we are ready for the time you say).

If ensuring your guests have plenty to drink is his preference and an expensive room dressing entrance is hers, then decide together where to spend. Doing this will remove any fall outs closer to the date as you have made it clear that you really want it.

Everything else is up to you as a couple whether to spend high or low.

3. Let your venue handle as much as possible

Room dressing, centrepieces, table plan, master of ceremonies (for announcing you both into your reception) and room reservations – let the hotel handle all of this on your behalf. Our team have so much experience in putting the details together so use it to your advantage.

Set up your guests with an online booking code so they are sure to get the date and venue correct and hand it out as soon as you announce your date (or consider using save the date cards and print on them). We can set up a Wedding page for you as a couple with relevant details you want guests to know about such as afterparty details.

Don’t handle room reservations on your own as this alone can cause an enormous amount of pressure the week of the wedding.

The Inishowen Gateway Hotel works with an entertainment agency to supply top quality bands and wedding entertainment which is available to couples at a reduced rate. We also offer wedding packages with your band and wedding cake included. These packages are so popular with couples we have extended them into 2021. The agent handles the band booking and contract on your behalf, again reducing the stress for you.

4. Know your suppliers

Use friend and family recommendations for good suppliers and be sure that who you choose you feel comfortable with . Be sure you have the trust with them to bring your vision to life so using companies that come recommended is a good place to start.

5. Order of the Day

When choosing where to go for photos keep your location en route to the hotel to save on time if possible. Communicate this location in advance with your photographer.

A good photographer will anticipate this and have suggestions ready before you ask. You do not want to be arriving at your venue at 6pm with dinner booked for 5.30pm.

You will want to have time to mingle with your guests and enjoy a drink before your meal and also to check into the Bridal Suite and have some alone time.

6. Use Social Media to your advantage

Set up a Wedding Board on Pinterest to save your favourite looks and colour scheme. This is a great help as you can get overwhelmed with information so having a place to organise your ideas is really useful. Also trends can change fast and pinterest keeps you in the loop with new suggestions.

#Yourweddingday
Decide on a hash tag now for you both with your names and get it out to friends and family, especially if you are having an engagement party, great for the Hen and Stag parties to share images and then for the day itself (or you may want separete tags for each). In years to come having a shared hashtag means you can easily review all those amazing images that tell your story as a couple.

Email
Set up a email address for you both to direct all your wedding related emails. You will be attending wedding fairs and getting quotes through so having a wedding related email address helps to keep that information together in one place.

7. Look after the out-of-towners

For guests travelling for your wedding then ask your venue to reserve a number of rooms only for them to book. Here in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel we can set up a private page with code for access by your guests. These can be personalised with your details and images.

Don’t book for your guests, encourage them to book directly to avoid having phonecalls in the run up to the wedding day itself. It sounds straight forward but we see it alot, guests forgetting to book, assuming you have booked, cancelling or amneding their stay..the list goes on.

On the day of arrival consider a small welcome bag for each room and include water, local maps and activities they may want to do. It is a lovely touch and means you will be well remembered as being a perfect host.

8. Enjoy the planning process

You only plan to do this once (get married we mean) so enjoy it. Delegate where possible to your Bridal Party (useful to have the Groomsmen responsbile for paying any outstanding balances on the day so you dont have to think about it). When you look back in years to come you will want to have fond memories of your day and the lead up to it, you don’t want to remember a stressful time.

Stacked rings seem to be a major trend this year and we’re not just talking your engagement ring and wedding band! Brides are taking their ring styles to the next level by adding even more layers of sparkle.

This may not be for everyone, but we can certainly see the appeal. This is the perfect way to personalise your wedding band(s) even further or offer the chance for you to add a bit more bling one day or keep things simple the next. It’s summertime so that means you’ve no doubt got a few wedding activities coming up in your social calendar.

Whether you’re headed to a backyard engagement party or a mid-afternoon ceremony, as a guest you’ll want to think ahead to ensure you make it through what could be a very long day. See these helpful tips below to help you survive a warm-weather wedding…

What to Wear

Black is great…but you might want to think again if you’re heading to an outdoor, summer wedding! Think lighter colours and airy fabrics. You’ll also want to take caution with any fabrics that will show even the slightest sign that you may be sweating (because of course, you will be!). Think cotton, other natural fabrics, flowy sundresses or co-ordinating separates. For the guys, lighter tones and fabrics will also be your friend. You can’t go wrong with a tan suit or some good old seersucker.

Stay Hydrated

An open bar may be tempting, but don’t forget to drink water throughout the day! There’s no shame in pacing yourself so you can make it from ceremony to the evening sendoff.

Sun Protection

If your heading to an outdoor wedding, bringing a pair of sunglasses or even a chic sun hat. These will have your eyes shielded from the glaring rays and provide some shade for your face and neck. We also shouldn’t need to remind you that throwing on some factor 50 is ALWAYS a good idea.

Bring backup

You might need a touch of powder or a spritz of perfume as the festivities continue. There’s nothing wrong with being prepared for the unexpected. Wearing heels? Consider bringing a cute pair of flats or strappy sandals you can easily swap if your feet are starting to feel tired or too hot.

We love wedding a Markree Castle and this one is extra magical…

This gorgeous pair created a two-day celebration that we just couldn’t take our eyes off of! Travelling all the way from Seattle, Washington this precious pair’s destination wedding at Markree was surely one for the books!

Blending Indian traditions into their enchanting weekend events, Millie and Edik tied the knot in two separate ceremonies both with their own distinctive attire. We just adore the bright, cheerful colours and genuine excitement captured in each heartfelt moment by photographer Conor Doherty. You won’t want to miss Millie and Edik’s fabulous celebrations and all of the traditional details…

The Beginning

“Edik was born and raised in Seattle, WA while I grew up just a few hours south in southern California. We first met all the way at the other end of the country at the University of Virginia, where we bonded over biomedical engineering and The Hobbit. One dog, two PhDs, and five years later, we decided to tie the knot!”

The Proposal

“Edik popped the question during our Scottish adventure in May 2017. His original plan was to hike to a cliff top and pop the question while we looked out over the Atlantic. But, after being harassed by an angry sheep and sidetracked by highland coos, we didn’t stay long atop the cliffs. The right moment came along during a peaceful stroll along the singing sands of Islay. After a bit of fumbling with the ring box, we decided to get married and celebrated with a few drams of Laphroaig’s finest single malt whiskies! We bottled a bit of our joy (in the form of cask whisky) and over a year later we uncorked those bottles and savored the memories on our wedding day!”

The Attire

“How much time do you have??? We had A LOT of different outfits for the two days. The first night Edik and I both wore green Indian outfits, they were more casual so that we could show off our killer dance moves all night long! The next morning for the Indian ceremony, Edik more a traditional outfit with a long gold over coat that was embroidered with gold and red beads. He also wore a red turban and fun pointy gold shoes. I wore a red Indian outfit and traditional jewellery that belonged to my mother and had been worn by my sister at her wedding. All of our Indian outfits including the bridal party and grooms party were custom made in India. For the second ceremony, Edik wore a navy suit and black shoes while I wore a white Pronovias gown with a long train and an even longer veil. We felt so special that day and the clothes were a fun part of that!”

The Venue

“Edik and I love to travel and wanted to share that with our guests, a destination wedding was our dream. As for the specific destination, I had spent a summer in Ballyvaughn during university and had fallen in love with Ireland. So much so that my parents had to see for themselves what I was raving about. They came, they saw, and they also loved it! At the time Edik and already asked my parents for permission to marry me so they took the liberty of perusing wedding venues (unbeknownst to me) during their trip to Ireland and wasted no time in proposing the idea as soon as we were officially engaged. And I am so glad they did!

The service was INCREDIBLE. The staff was so experienced and knowledgeable and they made the entire two-day affair just the most wonderful experience. It’s now been almost 9 months and we and our guests are still wishing we could go back there and be pampered all over again. Everyone at Markree and all the vendors really went above and beyond!”

The Photographer

“Our favorite thing about working with Conor was his energy. He really made two awkward people who hate having their picture taken feel so at ease. He also took the most stunning photos and we can’t stop staring at them!”

Trends & Themes

“We did have a mixed culture wedding. That made it all the more fun because we had so many traditions we wanted to honour that the festivities stretched over two days! We had Indian music, dancing, and henna the first night and the second day had two wedding ceremonies and our reception. It was a packed weekend and so much fun!”

Special Moments

“The most special moment was definitely finally being married! We really had the best time with our guests, it truly was a merging of families!”

The bride and groom were beaming all day!

We love a wedding where you can just see the love and excitement on everyone’s faces from beginning to end! That’s just what you’ll find as you take a look at Jeni and Damien’s stunning celebration at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa, Cork, captured perfectly by Bernadette Hayes of Hayes Photography. After 11 years since they first met and three gorgeous children, Jeni and Damien planned their day with plenty of personal touches that truly made their day one of a kind.

Witness all the joy from pre-ceremony smiles to the laughter and love following the big I do’s below…

The Beginning

“I’m a friend of Damien’s sister and was staying at their house one night 11 years ago and asked her for his number to pretend I was a girl he met on a night out but there was no girl on that night and the jokes turned into more serious texts after a while.”

The Proposal

“Damien had our eldest daughter Kayleigh in on it, after dinner he knew I would be going up to our room so on the bed was a picture drawn by Kayleigh saying ‘mammy will you marry our daddy’ and the ring was with it…he had followed me up the stairs and had Kayleigh record the whole thing while pretending she was just on her phone.”

The Wedding Attire

“The wedding dress was bought in Diamond Bridal, it was an Ivory full-length mermaid gown with a V neckline and matching low illusion V back with a beautiful lace trail. I wore a Cathedral veil which I always wanted to wear. The suits were 3 piece Navy with Ivory tie and brown shoes.”

The Venue

“When we went to look at the Radisson Hotel it was my first time ever visiting the hotel. We instantly fell in love with the place. Our wedding co-ordinator Joanne was amazing, her advice and ideas were much appreciated and taken on board. There was a wedding on the day we called to meet her and we were sold straight away.”

The Wow Factor

“So much…we loved the ballroom, loved the Old House from day 1 but what the guests kept mentioning were how the staff were so amazing which they were, they treated us like royalty and guests also couldn’t stop talking about how great the food was.”

The Photographer

“Bernadette was due to call to the house at 12 but she arrived at 11.30am so this instantly brought the stress levels down. I had said to Bernadette at our consultation that we wanted a picture of us kissing with our kids hands blocking their eyes in horror but had totally forgotten so thankfully Bernadette reminded us of this on the day and the photo turned out great! She had plenty of unique ideas on the day and captured little details you would not think of. Pictures turned out fantastic with brilliant quality.”

Trends & Themes

“We had all our own unique ideas, our music was very different from the norm, coming up the aisle was ‘Only You’ by Alison Moyet and more recently Selena Gomez. Another part that was loved by all was the music to our entrance to the reception where we came in to ‘Shipping up to Boston’ by Dropkick Murphys.

And the most unique part of it all was the surprise Damien planned, just at dessert time 4 people came out and performed the Greatest Showman songs they sang, danced, mingled with the guests and were in great costumes too. The hotel staff really helped with this too regarding getting them in and using the PR system.

We had Ger Kearney the magician as well and he entertained everyone at the drinks reception, this was an idea we decided to go with only a few weeks before the wedding when we had seen him perform at a communion he was brilliant and had everyone amazed!”

Instead of traditional wedding favours on the table, we made a donation to Temple Street Children’s Hospital, this was printed on the menu which Joanne added for us.”

Memorable Moments

“Jeni decided to do a speech, well in song that is!! She put her own words into 4 songs from Don’t stop Believing to Roar!! A lot of laughs were had here mostly at my expense!!”

“Another big highlight was our 18-month-old daughter Chloe walking up the aisle with her big sister Kayleigh…halfway up the aisle when she saw her Daddy she beamed and shouted up ‘Daddy’ which had the all our guests laughing while saying ‘Awwww’ at the same time this was lovely and really set the tone to what became a very relaxed ceremony. The Humanist Celebrant Geraldine O’Neill played a big part in creating this environment also.

Funny things to look back at were when my dad tripped over my veil twice…when he first saw me at the house and just after walking me up the aisle!! Another one was when I was called up on stage for a song and they got Damien to play the tambourine just to get him involved and he didn’t hold back he jumped down from the stage into the crowd to his friends’ delight and amusement!”

Special Thoughts

“June Bloom Florist did my fabulous bouquets. I decided on artificial flowers as I wanted me and the girls to keep them forever. She made a mini bouquet for my 9-year-old daughter and a beautiful little wand for my 18-month-old. She is a lovely lady to deal with and was very reasonably priced too.

Christine O’Sullivan did our hair. 5 heads and we were all over the moon. I was unsure with what exactly I wanted on the morning and she showed me pictures of up styles she had done before and we went from there. Everyone was complimenting our hair all day. She is such a lovely genuine girl and we had an absolute ball with her it felt like we knew her years. I can’t recommend her enough. She is amazing.

Laurna Murphy from Minnies Salon in Grange did our makeup. It was really beautiful and natural looking which is exactly how I wanted it. She is such a sweetheart she even provided me with lipstick to top up during the day.

Niamh Murphy provided the music for the ceremony…what a voice she has, it is so haunting. We wanted to put our own stamp on our song choices and she was more than happy and capable to accommodate our requests. We changed our exit song 3 weeks before the day and there was no problem at all to do it for us. All our guests couldn’t get over how good she was and she definitely made the ceremony intimate for us.”
