The New Year is celebrated in Turku at the Turku Cathedral and with traditional fireworks if the weather permits. In addition, Children’s New Year is celebrated at Kupittaa starting from the afternoon.
Wizz Air will launch a route from Turku Airport to Luton Airport, London, next summer. The route will be the first direct route from Turku to London and it is operated three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
The route starts on 2nd of July, 2019 and is operated with Airbus 320-200 aircraft.

The theme of Ecumenical Christmas this year is ”Living in harmony makes room”. The event will especially highlight the prevention of exclusion and inequality. The humanitarian message will be delivered by rap artist and author Karri Miettinen, alias Paleface, in the event which is organized already for the 25th time at the Turku Cathedral on 12 December, 2018.
Paleface is also known as a social critic who has often raised the themes of justice during his career. When presenting the humanitarian message, Paleface wants to remind us how the values in society have become harder and unequal.
Turku has been the location for over 50 movies, countless TV series, animations and documentaries. The tour will introduce you to some of the settings for these movies. Turku is well known as the scene for the Vares detective movies but is also the location for period drama, The Girl King, the romance, Levottomat (restless) and the comedy film, Luokkakokous (reunion). So leave reality behind and immerse yourself in the world of film.
