F*CK PERFECTION EPISODE 6: PRACTICAL MAGIC PODCAST

Healthy striving is self-focused: How can I improve? Perfectionism is other-focused: What will they think? Perfectionism is a hustle.” Brene Brown

Put your hands up if you think you’re a perfectionist? Or if you’ve stopped creating something, or working on something because if it isn’t perfect then you’re not going to put it out into the world. My perfectionist comes along for the ride with me every time I put something out into the world. It tries to tell me I’m not good enough, or who the hell do I think I am. You recognise this? This week on the show I’m sharing how the perfectionist shows up for me, what it’s here to teach us, and some ways in which we can find ways to not be so hard on ourselves, and get OK with getting things wrong.

On the show we explore:
  • How playing safe and being the ‘good girl’ can lead to fear of getting things wrong in later life
  • How internalising failure, and not getting things 100% right can lead to procrastination
  • Learning to understand the difference between the ego and the truth voice
  • Taking your fear on a road trip alongside creativity – learning to love failure and why it’s so important for the creative process
  • Checking in on where perfectionism is creeping into your life around you
  • How curiosity and play are the antithesis to perfectionism.

CHOOSING NOT TO BE BUSY WITH CHLOE BROTHERIDGE EPISODE 5: PRACTICAL MAGIC PODCAST

On this week’s show, I’m joined by clinical hypnotherapist and author of The Anxiety Solution Chloe Brotheridge.

I met Chloe a couple of years back on Obonjan, and I was immediately taken by her calm, serene manner. She’s an incredible teacher and healer, but her story of her journey with her work hasn’t been an easy one for Chloe, and so she’s here to share more, and her knowledge on the show.

On the show we explore:
  • How anxiety doesn’t define who we are
  • How anxiety is a normal emotion, and that the health in our mental health needs to be cared for like any other part of our health
  • What the physical symptoms of anxiety are
  • Why wearing ‘busy-ness’ as a badge of honour is having a detrimental effect on our emotional and physical health
  • And Chloe shares some tools from her Anxiety Tool Kit, including meditation and mindfulness as essential tools when dealing with anxiety, and why shaking is so good for you when you’re in a highly anxious state.

ALIGNMENT OVER HUSTLE EPISODE 4: PRACTICAL MAGIC PODCAST

“When you value your integrity at the highest level, living alignment with your word and following through with your commitments no matter what, there are no limits to what you can create for your life. However, when you make excuses, justify doing what easiest, and choose the path of least resistance, you will live a life of mediocrity, frustration and regret. Live with integrity as if your life depended on it, because it does.”

– Hal Elrod
The more we hustle, the more we feel the pressure to be more. The more pressure there is to fear that we’re getting it all wrong, and that there’s too much that can go wrong. When we’re in constant hustle mode, we’re doing more, but not necessarily more fulfilled.
I’ve got my own stories of hustle and burnout, burnout and hustle. It’s been an old narrative for way too long in my life, until I realised that I could work 24 hours a day for the rest of my life, and not necessarily be happy. I had to take some time to check into my values. This is when I chose to life a life of alignment over hustle.
On the show we explore:
  • The differences between working hard, and working aligned
  • How hustle can have a negative impact on productivity and self esteem
  • Why hustle comes from lack, and alignment from abundance
  • How tuning into your values equals living a fulfilled life
  • Why alignment IS community over competition
