Charlie’s Tropic Heating and AC would not be possible without those working on the frontline in the community. With such a large team of service professionals, there must be someone at the reigns making sure everything runs as smoothly as possible. Assuming this significant responsibility is usually where a service manager steps in. The role of service manager is vital to the success of Charlie’s Tropic. Our service manager, Patrick O’Grady, helps keep our wheels rolling. Starting with overseeing every service appointment from creation through completion, to reinforcing our great relationship within the community, Patrick is essential to our daily operations.

Meet Patrick

Patrick is more than just an employee; he’s family. While we think of all our employees as family, in Patrick’s case it’s a little bit different. He’s actually married to Charlie’s daughter, Amy. As a result, he couldn’t be prouder to use his time and talents to help the family business grow.

As a child, Patrick began playing soccer and quickly took to the sport. Soccer taught him many valuable life lessons and social skills throughout his youth and into his adulthood. Learning to work with others, the importance of constantly expanding your knowledge base, and being able to adapt to a changing environment are just a few of the skills he’s learned on the field. These aren’t only applicable to the game, they help him off the field to improve his abilities both at work and at home with his family. As a father, Patrick know he wants his kids involved in the sport or at least trying their best to. Luckily his children have taken to it just like he did. They regularly spend quality time together furthering their skills. His goal is that soccer will have as large of an impact on his children’s personal and professional lives as it has on his.

Sports to Service

From working in the office to meeting with people in the community, Patrick has the skills to adjust to any situation he finds himself in. Some people believe that sports have no impact on life and may even be a waste of time. Patrick is a prime example of how athletics can truly affect somebody’s life in a positive way. He’s shown that he has what it takes to be an effective service manager because what he’s learned from soccer matches up with what’s necessary to do the job. Managing an entire team of service professionals while making sure every job is completed to the customer’s satisfaction is never an easy task. As a valued member of the Charlie’s Tropic family, we could think of nobody better to take on this role than Patrick. While he continues to play soccer on his own and with his children, he’s only strengthening his already-amazing abilities. As a service technician, it’s important to approach every job with trusted experience and integrity with no exceptions. Steve always puts the interests and needs of every customer first. What Inspires Steve is his interest in his field of HVAC.

Meet Steve

Steve practically grew up in the HVAC industry. His father owned an HVAC company from the time Steve was a young child. At the age of 12 he began shadowing his father on the jobsite, which quickly became a regular occurrence. Steve fell in love with the work and the ability to help people in such a hands-on way. Over the years, his father instilled in him the values of honesty and hard work. Giving up was never an option. Settling for “okay” wasn’t acceptable either, so his dad encouraged him to always look for ways to improve his skills on the job. These values are all things we look for when bringing on any new employees, especially a service technician. Luckily, they just happen to come second nature to Steve.

Charlie’s Tropic would not be possible without the many hardworking men and women who come to work with us every day. One of the people who helps keep our wheels turning is Chris Johnson our comfort specialist. The role of our comfort specialist is to find even better installation practices for us to implement into our work. The innovative operations we perform wouldn’t come to fruition without Chris spearheading our path forward. He always puts the customers needs first and works hard to find the proper solution to meet any specific requests. But what really Drives Chris?

What Drives Chris

Chris knows that life is not all about work. What really matters to him is being able to kick back, relax and build relationships with those around him. Growing up, he spent quality time with his dad on the golf course, resulting in his true passion for the sport. Through their bonding time, he gained a deeper insight into what’s important in life. Morning, afternoon or night, there’s not a time when he doesn’t desire to get out and play a round of golf. As a father himself, he hopes that one day he can share all the lessons he learned from his father with his own young children. That is to say preferably on the golf course.

His children, 8 and 3 years old, push him to always do better both at work and at home. Since becoming a father, his priorities have shifted and he lives out each day for the overall betterment of his family. This is so important to us at Charlie’s Tropic. We too focus each day on doing what’s best for our family, customers and employees alike.

Meet Charlie Marks

Our founder, Charlie Marks, grew Charlie’s Tropic into what it is today. This came from his pure passion for the HVAC industry and building his own path to success. After traveling throughout most of  his young childhood with his Military Family he settled down in Jacksonville just in time to attend Fletcher High School. He loves getting to wake up every day and interacting with the other members of the Beaches community. Now with 39 years in the industry, his work still has no end in sight.

The Beginning

Charlie began his career in the HVAC industry nearly four decades ago. Way back then, he was just starting out and had no idea that one day he would be leading his own successful HVAC company. Thinking back to those foundational days, Charlie began his career where most others do: working for someone else. Even though he’s grateful for every opportunity he has been given in life, he was not fulfilled in this position. Not much time went by before he became disappointed with the outlook of his chances for upward mobility. This gave him the push he needed to fulfill his dreams of entrepreneurship and go out on his own. The Idea of Charlie’s Tropic was brought to fruition in Jacksonville, FL in 1998.

Even though he loves every moment working at Charlie’s Tropic and servicing his treasured community, Charlie also enjoys his down time just as much. When he’s not working hard at the office, spending time with family is always a top priority. Through his children he has received his greatest blessings in life, six grandchildren who call him “Pa.” Besides his work and family, Charlie would say his lifelong passion is building things. It doesn’t matter what that is, whether it be his business or his next car restoration project, building things from the ground up is what he knows best.

What Builds Charlie Up

Stemming from the love of his first car, a 1969 Ford Mustang convertible, his passion for cars was born. To this day, he takes every chance he can to get his hands dirty and work on cars. He finds restoring old cars to be more fun, as their older technology provides him the chance to embrace his mechanical side. Nascar is also a passion of his. Charlie will follow the action on tv race day or travel to at least one race per year to get the full experience. Working on cars provides him an outlet to clear his mind and continue building his way through life.

At the end of the day, Charlie is fortunate for all he has been blessed with in life. He’s proud of what he has accomplished over the years. He has been able to provide the Jacksonville community with quality HVAC services for over 20 years. Without the support of his family and friends, or the many dedicated and hardworking employees that walk through the doors of Charlie’s Tropic each day, none of this would have been possible.
