In A Hurry?  Here’s Our Take:

  • BDLWN is an American-made brand that delivers in quality
  • Their designs are timeless
  • While BLDWN jeans are quite expensive, they are durable
  • Final Verdict: If you want time-tested performance, get a pair of denim from BLDWN.  You won’t be disappointed.

Finding the perfect pair of jeans is a lifelong endeavor for a lot of men.

It’s a search that is uniquely personal and downright tough to satisfy.

Opposite of that are men who purchase the same brand of jeans on a regular basis for years on end, simply because they are ‘good enough’.

I personally fell into the second bucket for far too many years…

…but that all changed recently.

Today, I wanted to talk about a brand that completely transformed the way I look at denim.

Enter BLDWN (previously known as Baldwin).

Now, most men are likely familiar with jeans from brands such as Levi’s, Lucky Brand, Tommy Hilfiger, J. Crew and countless others…

…heck, you probably have a few in your dresser right now…

…and that’s completely fine!

Those brands are staples for a lot of guys (myself included) …

…but this review isn’t about those brands.

Today, I wanted to review a brand that, in my humble opinion, is far better than those.

This brand has not only withstood the test of time, but it delivers a quality that is unmatched when compared to anything I have ever worn previously.

I want to share a review that has been two years in the making, and that is BLDWN jeans.

To be quite honest, unlike other brands that have been reviewed in the past, such as Indochino, Black Lapel, Harry’s, Huckberry, etc., I haven’t developed such a close and personal relationship with a product like this one.

Today, I not only want to share a bit about BLDWN (and who is behind the brand), but I also wanted to share my personal experience of how BLDWN jeans can take a beating but never buckle under the pressure.

Let’s take a look:

To know any company, you must understand what makes them tick.

What’s their passion?

Why are they in business?

What really makes them any different from the hundreds of other brands?

Originally founded in 2009 by a Kansas City-based husband and wife duo, Matt and Emily Baldwin, Baldwin, as it was simply known, was a brand which focused on “modern design, quality textiles and American manufacturing” (source).

While researching, I stumbled across this terrific interview with Matt Baldwin back in 2014.  In the video, he provides a great history of the company and how it came to be if you are into learning about that sort of thing.

If you have nine minutes to spare, I highly recommend that you check it out:

Matt Baldwin at Middle of the Map Fest Forum - YouTube

If you did check out the video, you will see how fascinating it was to learn that Matt relies on the same exact sewing methods used by Levi Strauss in 1883 in order to craft the BLDWN jeans of today.

Furthermore, learning how Matt’s personal background shaped the brand, along with the clothes he and his wife made and countless other nuggets of information, are truly remarkable; it’s a terrific story of an American-made brand.

Fast forward nearly a decade later; Baldwin is still based out of Kansas City and has since brought on a new president in 2018, while both Matt and Emily sit on the board and are actively involved (source).

Perhaps most importantly, clothes are still being made here in the States (Los Angeles, CA).

With the changes in leadership, Baldwin has rebranded to become BLDWN (however they don’t appear to be fully done with the transition as their receipts, clothing tags and customer service emails all reference the old name), and have since expanded both their product line and retail presence significantly.

While changes in management typically spell disaster for many companies, thus far it appears BLDWN has been doing everything right.

While their product line has expanded, the quality is still impressive.

BLDWN Review Disclosure

Now with the world we live in and the inclusion (or exclusion for that matter) of the #sponsored or #ad moniker, it is important to discuss disclosure.

You deserve to know whether what you are reading is a truthful review or completely fabricated.

With this review, I want to be completely transparent.

BLDWN did not contact me at all prior to publishing this.

I paid out of my own pocket for everything you see below.

Given that I live in New York City (NYC), I went to the store (more on this in a minute), shopped around and made a purchase – it wasn’t given to me.

Here’s proof of the receipt:

With that being said, I do have an affiliate relationship with BLDWN.

Therefore, if you decide to click on a link to BLDWN and make a purchase, I get a portion of the sale (typically a very small percentage).

This is extremely common in the publishing world as it’s a small way to keep the site running.

Furthermore, if you decide to buy a pair of jeans and do not like them at all and return them, then I don’t get paid anything.

I think it’s a fair deal and one that ensures that I provide you with the best and most accurate review possible.

So enough with the disclosure; let’s get to the fun stuff:

BLDWN Store Locations

Starting off with only one location in Kansas, BLDWN has begun to set up shops across the country.

This makes it great for those men that like to try on their clothes firsthand rather than buying them directly online.

At the time of initial publication (Mar. 2019), BLDWN currently has seven store locations:

  • New York, NY (199 Mott St.)
  • Dallas, TX (3205 Knox St.)
  • Austin, TX (11621 Rock Rose Ave, Ste. 116)
  • San Jose, CA (334 Santana Row, Ste. 1075)
  • Leawood, KS (4573 W. 119th)
  • Kansas City, MO (422 Nichols Road)
  • Los Angeles, CA (8424 Melrose Place) – Opens Spring/Summer ’19

Now if you don’t live near any of the above locations or you simply don’t want to head to a store (although all the people I interacted with from the BLDWN shop in NYC genuinely wanted to help and weren’t at all “salesy” or pushy in any way), then you can easily buy a pair online.

The shipping is free via UPS ground if you live in the U.S.

Unfortunately for international readers, I am unsure of how shipping costs may vary.  Therefore, you will have to check out their website to find out if you can place an order and have it shipped to your country.

BLDWN Coupon Codes…Do They Exist?

Not really.

Googling around looking for BLDWN Discount or Coupon Codes will likely be a fruitless effort.

However, based on my own personal experience, only once did I ever receive a coupon in the mail from BLDWN (Fall of 2017) for $50 off the order.

Quite honestly, I am unsure of any sort of restrictions or terms on the deal since it was such a long time ago.

The only reason why I recall this particular coupon was because I used it on a second pair of jeans and have been waiting for another ever since.

When visiting their store (both online and brick-and-mortar), BLDWN does occasionally mark down some of their clothes.

As proof of some of the great deals you can find, I was able to nab a hoodie (reviewed below) for 60% off the retail price (originally $198, on sale for $79).

So if you can wait, check out their sales section regularly for deals.

Pictures of BLDWN Clothes

When it came to reviewing BLDWN, I wanted to try and make this as comprehensive as possible.

Therefore, I thought it best to separate the review into three sections:

  1. Pictures and review of their Sagewood Black Hoodie that was on sale (just to give you an idea of the quality outside of their denims)
  2. Pictures and review of a new pair of their 76 Jean in Indigo Raw Stretch Selvage
  3. Pictures and review of a two-year-old pair of the Henley Indigo Raw Stretch Selvage

So, let’s dive first into the hoodie:

1. Review of the Sagewood Black Hoodie

Overall, there is a lot to really love about this hoodie, from both the fit and feel to the overall construction.

To give you a better idea on sizing, the one I am wearing in the picture above is a size Small.  For further guidance, I am 5′ 8″ and weigh 145 lbs.

While there is some bunching on the sides, particularly around the midsection, I was pretty happy with the fit, especially along the shoulders and arm length.

The added area around the midsection doesn’t ever feel like it bunches up or is too much excess fabric.

Here’s another shot from the side:

And lastly from the back:

For the detail junkies out there, this hoodie is made from 100% Cotton and is made right here in the USA:

Overall, while plunking down $80 on a hoodie may seem a bit excessive, I am happy with how it looks and feels.  While it’s only a week old at this point, it’s quickly become a staple that I plan on wearing for super casual occasions.

2. 76 Indigo Raw Stretch Selvage

After getting back the 76’s a few days after their required alteration (necessary for all BLDWN denims), I was excited to try them on.

Now a word of experience here when it comes to denims from BLDWN: when getting them hemmed, I personally like to go a slight bit higher than what I am initially comfortable with.

The reason is that the jeans will begin to settle or relax with time (as you will see in the Henley’s in the next section).  This will add a little bit extra length while also preventing the bottoms from scraping on the ground.

Of course, this is a highly personal choice, so when you do pick up your own pair, give it a minute or two of thought before deciding.

Here’s a picture of them from the front:

And, here’s another from the flip side:

Now if you want to cuff them at all, they do feature a nicely designed selvedge:

Furthermore, given that these do feature a slightly more aggressive hem, they can also be paired easily with a pair of quality Chukka boots with no problem:

Lastly, since these were purchased in Spring of 2019, long after their change in leadership, you can still see that these jeans were made in the USA:

3. Henley Indigo Raw Stretch Selvage

Lastly, the time-tested pants.

As I spoke previously about in the article, I have been personally wearing BLDWN jeans for over two years now.

As proof, here’s the original order that was placed on March 1, 2017:

Now here is how those same jeans look today:

As you can see, while they lost a little bit of their color (especially when compared to the new ones pictured above), their wash has become completely natural, which is fully expected and appreciated.

Even though slight color alterations may be what some men fixate on when it comes to jeans, the real quality marks to be on the lookout for are extreme distress, holes, fraying, etc.

Common in many of the mass-produced jeans on the market after only a few months’ worth of wear, the two-year-old BLDWN jeans pictured above are absent of any these common aging signs.

Now when flipping around, here’s a picture at how the jeans look from the back:

Overall, they aren’t bad.

You may notice a slight outline on the right rear pocket where I normally keep my wallet that has started to appear (Note: I don’t sit on my wallet while working – if you do this out of habit, then your results may differ).

The natural honeycombing behind the knees has started to develop nicely and was expected.

In addition to the overview pictures above, I also took a few closeups to give you an idea on how they wore over the years.

This pocket is used probably 100 times a day from checking my phone repeatedly:

Wider view of the hip:

Obligatory crotch shot:

As you can see, no holes developed in the crotch area after two..

Before You Decide: 8 Things to Think About When Purchasing a New Wallet

As we got deeper and deeper into the research, we uncovered a lot of little nuances that many guys struggle over when purchasing a wallet.

Therefore, we wanted to share a few of our field notes to help you while you’re shopping so you ultimately  make a better and more informed decision for yourself:

1. Material

Perhaps one of the first, and most important, things men often look for when purchasing a new wallet is the material it’s made out of.

Since the 1600s, men have been toting wallets around with them to carry paper currency (although there are some earlier references to ancient Greeks using them as well).

Even after their primary use nearly 500 years ago, they largely remained unchanged.  Back then, they were made from either cow or horse leather (source).

Fast forward to 2019 — wallets now comes in many different materials, including synthetic fibers, aluminum, canvas, and of course, leather.

While we won’t dive too deep into the nuances of all the materials used in making wallets, we at least wanted to touch on a few of their key properties and why they are important:

Synthetic Fibers

Fibers such as polyester and polyester blends are quickly becoming a popular and contemporary alternative to the traditional leather wallet for a few reasons:

First, synthetic fibers are extremely durable and can withstand the abuse of being tossed around for years.

Secondly, synthetic fiber-based wallets tend to be much thinner, which reduces the transferring of outlines of your wallet to the surface of your jeans.

Their naturally thinner body can often provide additional storage options as well, such as those seen in the Pioneer Ion Wallet.

Having a wallet made from aluminum certainly has its benefits – it can get tossed, dropped, sat on repeatedly and much more without showing any signs whatsoever of wear and tear.

With aluminum being very lightweight, this material when used in wallets won’t weigh your pants down.

Many aluminum-made wallets, like the Ridge Wallet we reviewed below, are made from several different plates:

This unique design doesn’t need to rely on a fold (like a traditional bi-fold or tri-fold wallet) and further reduces the real estate it takes up in your pocket.

But another nice advantage to this design is that if you are only carrying a single credit card and driver’s license, you aren’t wasting space with unused slots.

One popular material, especially with the men who are animal-friendly, is canvas.

Crafted from cotton, canvas is a nice and soft material that is also inexpensive.

Found in more of the nature-focused brands on the market (i.e. Herschel, Fjallraven, etc.), this material is great for those who want to make a statement with their wallet in more ways than one.

Beyond the social focus of these wallets, canvas wallets are great beginner wallets as they often have zipper change pockets and photo inserts.

By and far the most popular wallet material will be leather.  Regarded for its level of sophistication, style and durability, a well-made leather wallet will look great for years.

Able to hardly ever look out of place, whether it’s a casual or formal setting, there is a lot to love about leather.

But here’s the secret that many companies don’t want you to know…

…all leather is not created equally.

In fact, there are three different types of leather that you will come across when purchasing a new wallet:

Top Grain – Top grain is the top of the hide and is the best leather that money can buy.  This leather is the type that will only look and feel better with age.

It’s not uncommon to see a man with a top grain leather wallet last them a couple of decades – because they are just that good.

Expect to pay a premium for this type of wallet, but also expect to get a much more quality offering.

Full grain differs slightly as it’s a bit rawer and may contain surface scars from the cow of which it was originally sourced.

Cross Grain – A mixture between both the top grain and lower level of leather, cross grain is more of an intermediate wallet. It will last you a fair bit of time while also costing significantly less than a top grain leather.

Genuine Leather – The lowest form of leather is marked as genuine or bonded leather.  This type of leather is a mixture of both hide parts and glue.  The amount of leather that is within this mix can vary wildly; however, it is up to the company’s discretion and can vary anywhere between 10% and 90%.

If reading about leather is your thing, then you should check out this book we came across; it outlines all the details when it comes to leather.

Here’s their brief overview that we found pretty valuable in our research:

2. Design

As you will see in a minute, wallets come in many different form factors; in fact, we wrote recently about all the types of wallets here.

While we won’t go too deep into the details (if you want to know them, check out the article we mentioned), we will at least give you a bit of an overview on the more popular types and their key advantages:

The most traditional of any type of wallet will be the bi-fold.  Not only does it have a rather slim profile, but the single crease in its design allows for easy organization.

What does this mean for you?

If you store your wallet in your back pocket, it won’t be a large lump that may cause discomfort or back pain.  Secondly, the open design allows for easy access of both cash and cards.

Very similar to the bi-fold wallets, tri-folds are just wallets that have been folded two additional times.

With their three creases, they are much more compact and greater for men who want a smaller wallet without compromising on card slots.

The biggest disadvantage when it comes to the tri-fold wallet is that it can get thick rather quickly.  This can cause discomfort while sitting – so be sure that you clean out your wallet regularly.

Card Cases

Perfect for men wearing a full suit and wanting to keep a more minimalist wallet, card cases keep just the essentials an arm’s reach away.

While not the most practical for everyday use, this form factor is perfect for those men who just want the bare bones in their wallet.

It may not seem like the obvious choice, but using a card case with a pair of skinny jeans makes perfect sense as they can slide in effortlessly to tight pockets.

Money Clips

While card cases are fairly no frills, the money clip is the ultimate choice for men out there who don’t want to carry much.

However, with money clips, they can take some getting used to as you will always have to thumb through your cash, cards and any other necessities to get what you need.

3. Color

Color is the perfect way to demonstrate your own unique personality and sense of style.

However, not every occasion calls for bold colors or patterns when it comes to taking out your wallet.

Taking out a bright, tactical orange wallet while paying the bill for a formal dinner for work may send some weird messages, especially if you work in the financial sector.

If you want to play it safe and don’t want to own more than one wallet, then we strongly recommend that you go with a plain brown or black wallet (material can vary depending on personal preference).

These types of wallets are timeless and will always be in style no matter what other trends are currently out there.

Of course, if you are in college or you simply don’t have to interact with clients on a regular basis, then you can definitely have fun with something like the Aluminum Wallet by Ridge Wallet.

4. Price

Based on our findings, the price points of wallets are all over the place.  Whether you are looking for a sub $20 price wallet like the Buffway Slim Minimalist Wallet or the higher end Filson Bi-Fold Wallet that retails for about $135, the ranges are pretty wide.

The reason is due to multiple factors, including the materials, style, craftsmanship, where it was made and the brand itself.

What do we recommend here?

If you want a wallet that will last you quite a few years and carries with it a brand that is synonymous with luxury (i.e. Bellroy, Tumi, Red Wing Heritage), then expect to pay around $100.

However, if you are looking for a starter wallet or one that is a style that you are just trying out for the first time, and brand, material, extras, etc. aren’t all that important to you, then expect to pay about $20 to $50.

5. Brand

Building off the last point, as is the case when buying anything in the world of fashion, the brand will either be important to you or not.

As we highlighted in the reviews below, there are some brands that make wallets as more of an ancillary accessory (i.e. Levi’s) and there are other brands that specialize in wallet-making and have perfected their craft (i.e. Pioneer, Ridge Wallet, etc.).

Of course, if you are going for more luxury brands such as Gucci, Valentino, Hugo Boss and countless others, then sites like Mr. Porter can offer up some wallets that cost several hundred to even north of $1,000.

6. Style

Style is a tough one to nail down when it comes to wallet selection. During our research, we found a few different general styles that many wallets fell into:

Formal / No Frills – This will be just your standard wallet that serves its function and nothing else.  With a few card slots and a place to put your bills, these wallets are often the thinnest and most versatile.

Organizational Heavy – For men who are planning to travel overseas or simply have a lot going on with their life, the addition of a coin pouch, card slots, photo albums, bill holder (and secret bill holder), etc. is worth thinking about if you like to have everything in its proper place.

Tactical – This style of wallet redefines what a wallet really is.  With fold-out knives, bottle openers and countless other cool little tools baked into the design, a tactical wallet can quickly become as versatile as a Leatherman Tool and can help you out in a pinch.

7. Card Slots

If there is any part of your wallet that has seen the most transformation in the past five years, it would be your card slots.

With the popularity of platforms like Google Pay and Apple Pay, the number of cards that you physically carry around may begin to start shrinking.

While the useful life of a quality leather wallet is at least 10 years, we would suspect that the financial landscape of the world is going to be drastically different from what it is today.

What’s the takeaway here?

We would recommend that you take out your wallet and count how many cards you are currently carrying.

Instead of buying a wallet to carry all those cards, plus several more you might obtain down the road, we think it might serve you better by getting one with equal or less slots than the cards you have as your phone will likely begin to replace them.

8. RFID Blocking

While we dedicated an entire article covering all the best RFID blocking wallets currently in the market, we at least wanted to touch briefly on this technology baked into the wallets of today.

Some folks are concerned about their financial safety and look for RFID blocking wallets as they will stop any signals from penetrating the wallet and sifting your credit card details.

While the science is still out on this form of thievery, many wallet manufacturers know that this is an important factor when buying a wallet and often add RFID blocking capabilities as an extra selling feature.

So, if you want to have an extra peace of mind, especially if you commute on subways and other crowded transports in large urban areas, check the product description of the wallet to confirm that it will block any thieves.

Reviews of The Best Wallets for Men In 2019

After reading countless reviews from other men, doing our own set of research, and considering the various styles, materials, price points and more, we found that  the following wallets below were best in class for 2019:

Ion Wallet by Pioneer

Materials: 10XD Ripstop Fabric | Card Capacity:  6 to 8 | Extras: 10 Year Warranty

  • Extremely durable fiber backed by 10-year warranty
  • Compact design keeps a slim profile
  • Moderately priced given the craftsmanship

  • Limited storage compared to others

When it comes to durability, the Ion Wallet by Pioneer beats all.  Constructed from some of the strongest fibers on earth that is typically used for military body armor and cut-resistant kitchen gloves, it will be able to handle the rigors of your everyday life.

Now normally when something is so durable, the wallet will be tough to close, isn’t practical, and in often cases, just looks downright ugly.

However, this couldn’t be further from the truth when looking at this wallet.

Built as a smaller bi-fold wallet, it is both stylish and moderately functional (more on this in a minute).

With a diamond design pattern, it can easily work across both casual and formal occasions.

Now, as far as functionality, it’s a bit of a mixed bag.

The compact design is highly welcomed, but if you aren’t a fan of folding your bills when placing them into your wallet, you might find it a little bit cumbersome.

With that being said, if you are a man that embraces mobile payments and only carry a few bills on you at most, then this wallet is perfect.

Bottom Line

This is a moderately priced, yet incredibly durable wallet; it looks and feels great.  Pioneer does offer up a 10-year warranty against both defects and/or material failure.

Card Holder by Red Wing Heritage

Materials: Vegetable-Tanned Leather | Card Capacity:  4

  • A ‘buy it for life’ purchase
  • Made in the USA
  • Crafted from vegetable-tanned leather

  • Limited functionality
  • Expensive

When it comes to purchasing the finest leather goods, there is simply no beating the quality that is delivered with Red Wing Heritage’s Card Holder.

We recently found their Pioneer belt to be one of the best belts for men, and their card holder is equally impressive.

Made from vegetable-tanned leather that is sourced by the highly prestigious Hermann Oak Leather Company (est. 1881), this card holder should have no problem lasting a lifetime.

For the patriotic men out there, as is often the case when it comes to Red Wing Heritage, their products are made right here in the States.

Now this card holder may be a bit limiting for some, especially around both the capacity and functionality; after all, it can only hold four cards and a few bills in the center pouch. You will be happy to learn that Red Wing Heritage does sell a few additional wallets on their website as well in a variety of different styles.

Bottom Line

If you are looking for a card holder that will turn heads and that you can likely pass down to other generations, this is it.  While it’s more expensive than most, it will never need to be replaced.

Aluminum Wallet by Ridge Wallet

Materials: Aluminum / Elastic | Card Capacity:  1 – 12 | Extras: Lifetime Warranty / RFID Blocking Tech

  • Slim profile is great for casual and discrete use
  • Lifetime warranty provides peace of mind
  • Color selection to suit your style

  • Limited compartments may be tough at times

Acting as a hybrid money clip and card holder, this aluminum wallet by Ridge Wallet is the ultimate pick when it comes to functionality and form.

Weighing only 2 oz., this wallet is one of the lightest that we reviewed.

However, what makes this wallet special is that while it’s light, it doesn’t compromise in any way when it comes to card capacity.

Able to hold up to 12 credit cards and a side clip for..

Planning a wedding is never easy.

Sure, some guys that went through the process may say that the food and cake tasting are among the best parts of the planning (which they are) but being responsible for dressing your groomsmen can get to be rather tricky and stressful.

Not only do you have to make sure that everything is well coordinated, but if you have a group of guys that live all over the place, getting everyone on the same page is tough.

This is further amplified by the fact that companies like Men’s Wearhouse are closing stores, making it even more difficult to find the same cut or styles, especially if one of your groomsmen lives in a remote area.

Times have changed…

…and for the better!

If you are trying to find out where to get suits for your groomsmen, then we are here to help you with that.

Today we are going to talk about all the important factors that you need to think about before selecting the right place to get your groomsmen suits.

This includes looking at a variety of online storefronts, their respective timelines, and the most important part, pictures of how their suits actually look.

Let’s get started:

The Timeline is Critical in Dressing Your Groomsmen

One of the biggest factors when planning a wedding is working within the timeline of the big day.

Trying to cut corners not only leads to missed dates but rushing usually leads to subpar results.

Whenever we see bad reviews for suit companies online, they are often around how ‘ill fitting’ the suits were.

Here’s the deal:

When looking at most negative reviews, the root cause was with around the own buyers lack of planning.

Most of these people ordered well past the deadline date, got their suit in hand only a day or two before the wedding, and then had no time for alterations…

As a man that has gotten married, the last thing you need to be thinking about is whether your suit fits a day before the wedding…

…instead, you will be helping your soon to be spouse in countless other measures along with practicing your vows, handling the guests, etc.

Whether you decide to go with an online company (which you should) or a physical retail store, you need to plan ahead.

It is very rare that a suit that you bought online or at a store will fit you perfectly.

The reason is two-fold:

  1. The measurements you provided may be an inch +/- off due to human error
  2. Your body is different from when you initially ordered the suit (due to normal daily weight fluctuations)

Therefore, you will need to build in extra time at the end for alterations.

Beyond how the suit fits your body, another time factor to consider is shipping.

When looking at all the major stores, shipping can vary significantly from one to another.

Based on our research we found that shipping times varied anywhere between 15 days (Hockerty) to up to 10 weeks (Black Lapel).

As a general guideline, we recommend that you always add a 2-week buffer on to this.

Not only will this account for any last-minute changes, but if for any reason you are completely dissatisfied with the suit, you might be giving yourself just enough time to get things set straight.

What does this mean for you now?

Get your suit planned and ordered about 3 months before the wedding ceremony.

This will allow you to make sure you are happy with the designs and that all your groomsmen follow through and get their suits measured without any time pressures.

If your wedding is less than 3 months from now, then you will want to proceed with caution.

Trying to rush the process may lead to mistakes.

So, while some of the turn around times from the companies listed in this article may look appealing, make sure you get in contact with them prior to ordering to ensure there will be no surprises when your suits come in the mail.

Chain Suit Stores Are Quickly Falling Out of Fashion

The whole retail landscape has changed over the past few years…

…and formal suit stores haven’t escaped the massive disruption going on.

With companies like Men’s Wearhouse and Jos. A. Bank competing head-to-head with new companies like Black Lapel and Indochino, there has never been a better time to be a man looking for both an affordable yet well-crafted suit.

In addition to providing a far wider and better selection than the traditional retail establishment, online stores also make it much easier for groomsmen all over the world to get dressed for the occasion.

With intuitive and error-proof platforms, online retailers provide simple how-to videos explaining the measuring process that ensures you have a nearly perfect fitting suit when it arrives to your door.

To make things even better, most online stores such as Indochino are starting to have a wider retail presence.

This makes it great for those more traditional groomsmen who do still want to walk into a store and get fitted for their suit.

Rent vs. Owning A Suit

When it comes to finding the perfect suit for your wedding, rentals look appealing, especially given that you can get one for a fraction of the cost of a typical suit…

…but that’s where their key advantage ends.

While rentals have their place in weddings, especially if you are looking to save pennies on every corner and you won’t need a suit for the foreseeable future, then you can make it work.

But here’s the deal when it comes to rentals:

They aren’t made to measure – oftentimes making for a poor fit.

Furthermore, they aren’t nearly cheap as people think they are.

In fact, a quick look at the Men’s Wearhouse site tells you that a typical rental will cost about $150 to $200:

As you will see in a minute, should you spend just a little bit more, you can own the suit, it will be made-to-measure, and will be fully customized to your personal preferences.

The takeaway here is that if you have the budget, buy the suit, it’s a far better deal.

Online Options

As you do more and more research within the world of online custom suits, you will find that the options are surprisingly limited – especially when you start to look for those made for weddings.

However, based on our own research, and reviewing feedback from other men, we found that the following companies have been trusted by many to meet the stringent requirements of wedding parties, while also delivering a quality made suit that will look great when your big day rolls around:

Here’s a brief overview on each of them:

Established in 2007, Indochino is a Vancouver, Canada based company that is by far one of the largest online players in this field.

Not only are they considered to be among the best online suit stores as we found out in our full review of Indochino, but they also are rapidly expanding into the retail world as well with over 40 showrooms.

If you have a larger wedding party and are cautious about a company’s ability to turn out a quality product, then Indochino is a safe bet.

Their quality suits will extend far beyond just being used for the wedding.

Their made-to-measure process ensures a great fit allowing you to wear the suit for any formal occasion down the road.

Now one thing that a lot of grooms (and brides for that matter) have reservations about when going with an online suit company is coordination – especially if your wedding party lives in different areas.

To help quell this fear of a fashion mishap, Indochino has a system in place that will manage the scheduling for you.

Their online dashboard makes sure you keep everything well-coordinated:

So, if you are looking to dress your groomsmen, check out Indochino – we think you will be happy with their results.

Black Lapel

New York City based Black Lapel is quickly changing the world of groomsmen suits by offering a comprehensive process that is easy for anyone to use.

As you go through the process of deciding on a suit, you have total and complete control over how you want everything to look.

Now while this may be a bit intimidating for some men, Black Lapel does a great job in providing some recommendations in order to prevent you from committing any sort of fashion faux pas along the way.

Like Indochino, Black Lapel also has an online wedding planner to coordinate all the party’s measurements.

As seen below, the process is straight forward and can be done in 4 (but really 3) steps:

But beyond a simple online dashboard, Black Lapel also gives you a complimentary stylist to help answer any questions you may have along the way.

As we mentioned earlier, the biggest setback for Black Lapel will be timing.

They recommend that you start the process at least 2.5 months from the wedding date.

So, if you want to go with one of their suits, mark your calendar and plan well in advance.

Lastly, we wanted to make mention that Black Lapel does offer a discount for parties greater than 4 – so make sure that you are aware of this deal when setting up your account.

For those men that want a more traditional experience, Black Lapel only has one showroom (NYC @ 10 E 38th St).  Unless you live in the NYC area, you will need to do the entire process from home.

When it comes to style and service, there is no beating the quality received from Black Lapel.

Founded in 2008, Swiss-based Hockerty is another online-only suit retailer that has been featured in countless men’s publications.

But what makes them truly unique is their competitive price points and shipping speed.

With suits starting at only $359, they are among some of the most affordable you can find online today.

With a wide array of wedding suits that come in an endless supply of fabrics (we lost count at 75) that are a great pick for weddings in any season.

Like the other brands mentioned on our list, the quality delivered from Hockerty will allow you to easily wear this suit beyond just your wedding.

While their prices were intensely competitive, the biggest standout feature for this brand is the shipping speed.

Able to turn around a suit in only 15 days, this brand is perfect for men who may have procrastinated a bit too much.

While we always recommend that you build in at least a couple of extra weeks into the time frame as to ensure everyone looks great, knowing that Hockerty can get a suit to you in only 15 days is a great pick if you are in a bind.

Now it is worth mentioning that unlike others on this list, Hockerty does not have a showroom.

Therefore, you will have to be confident in your measurements and those of your fellow groomsmen when placing the order.

To help quell any fears, Hockerty does offer up fabric samples so you can actually see what their fabrics look and feel like before you make your selection.

Use Your Alterations Credit & Get It Pressed

When purchasing a suit online, companies will provide you with an alteration credit (usually around $75).

Make sure you use this!

While your new suit may look good when you initially put it on, the alterations credit allows you to have the suit fit your body perfectly through a few minor adjustments.

Beyond alterations, you will also need to get your suit pressed.

Given that the suit is shipped to your door rather than getting picked up from a store, it will inevitably get wrinkled along the way.

So, make sure you give yourself ample time to bring it to your local dry cleaner to make it look great – don’t try to iron it yourself.

Proof Is in The Pictures

Now it’s one thing for us to talk about all the popular places where you can get suits for your groomsmen, but it’s another to see how they actually look.

Here we wanted to pull a few select pictures showcasing how these suits look when worn:

Don’t Forget The Groomsmen Gifts

Now that you have a few ideas on where to dress your groomsmen for the big day, don’t forget to toss a few thank you gifts their way as well.

Whether you best mates have a beard or shave daily, beard care kits or shaving kits can make an awesome and classy gift (plus it’s a great way to make sure they look in tip-top shape for the ceremony).

But most importantly, we want to be the first to say congratulations on this exciting journey you and your significant other are going on!

Always remember to have fun and never go to sleep mad at each other!

Before You Decide: A Few Things to Think About

Whether you visit your local discount fashion store (i.e. Marshalls/T.J. Maxx), high-end department store (i.e. Nordstrom) or even simply an online retailer, here’s a few things you will want to take a minute or two to think about before you purchase a new pair of socks.

Not only is each of the below considerations extremely important as they will save you from wasting your money, but we also provide you with a bit of help on deciding various features that make sense for you:

When you explore the world of socks – be it athletic, casual, or dress — you will find that the materials they are made from are bucketed into four main categories:

  • Cotton & Cotton Blends
  • Elastane & Spandex
  • Wool & Wool Blends
  • Polyester

Here’s a bit of a primer on why each one of the blends is important:

Cotton & Cotton Blends – Cotton is a natural fabric found in nearly all mass-produced clothes as you are likely already familiar with.  Their composition in socks becomes critical as it will give your toes a bit of natural breathability.

Why is this important?

If your toes get too hot, they will start to sweat.  This sweat build-up creates an environment ripe for bacteria which ultimately leads to stinky feet.

So, when looking at your next pair of socks, no matter the occasion, make sure it contains some level of cotton.

Elastane & Spandex – Another critical fiber in making socks will be elastane or spandex.  This natural and synthetic fiber gives the sock its flexibility.

Of course, this is important to keeping your sock on throughout the day while also allowing the sock to bend with your feet.

A sock that is too rigid or not having a high percentage of spandex (assuming you bought the right size) will quickly become loose or slide off.

Wool & Wool Blends – Popular particularly in the winter months, wool is a terrific insulator for your toes while still providing some great moisture absorption properties.

Fun fact: Wool can actually carry one-third of its own weight in water (source).

In addition to being a terrific insulator and moisture absorber, wool has a bit of natural elasticity to its fiber allowing for a reduced use of spandex or elastane. This is great for guys who don’t like their socks feeling like they are too tight on the skin.

Lastly some wool, especially merino, neutralizes odor naturally – a great plus if you like to wear your socks for a few days.

Polyester – One fiber that gets way too much hate, but is critical for the textile industry, is polyester.

Synonymous with plastic suits from the 70s, polyester gives socks better structure than natural fibers and will be much more durable.

In addition to its rigidness, polyester has advanced quite a bit over the years and doesn’t feel nearly as ‘stuffy’ as it once was.

So, if you see a small percentage of polyester contained within the sock, don’t dismiss it right away.

Sock Height

One of the toughest decisions you will have to make when buying a pair of socks will be around the sock height.

This simply comes down to your personal preference and how versatile you want the sock to be.

For instance, a crew or over-the-calf sock is completely fine when worn with jeans, but when worn with a pair of nice dress shorts, well…it just doesn’t work.

And of course, you can’t really do ankle socks with dress shoes and trousers because that too would look equally ridiculous.

To try and help you decide the perfect sock for you, we go over a few examples of the different types of socks and their intended uses.

But first, here’s a quick diagram we threw together visually comparing how these socks differ from one another:

No-show / Liner – No-show or liner socks are quite possibly one of the best, yet most frustrating socks to buy.

The reason is that if the company cuts the sock just a little too high, they look bad.  But if they go too low with the cut, they will slip off and ball up at the toes of your feet while you are walking.

Here’s the deal:

All our feet come in different shapes and sizes.  So, what might work for one person may not necessarily work for another.

Therefore, when treading around this area for reviews, you must be careful, especially if you are 6′ 2″ reading reviews from a guy who is only 5′ 2″.

Sizing aside, no-show socks are great for those men who want the appearance that they are going barefoot in their shoes while still having the moisture wicking properties of a standard sock.

No-show socks are great when paired with shorts and tennis shoes, or if you are wearing a more contemporary suit and want the appearance that you are wearing your shoes barefoot.

Of all the socks, these will undoubtedly be the most versatile type you can own during the summer months.

Ankle – Ankle socks are another tricky purchase largely since they are oftentimes marketed as being ‘no-show’ when in fact they are highly visible.

The reason for this is two-fold:

No-show in this case is only if you are wearing a high-top sneaker.

Additionally, there is no governing body that oversees the exact labeling of socks (i.e. FTC doesn’t care about this).

So, what one company may call no-show, another may call ankle socks.

Our best advice here is to look for fit pictures in the product reviews for a better understanding of how they may look on your feet.

Beyond label confusion, ankle socks are great in both athletic and casual applications.  Their low-profile appearance doesn’t beg for attention and are subtle.

Quarter – Directly between the crew and the ankle sock you will find the quarter sock.

Perfect for men who wear Chukka boots or high tops, this sock is cut just above the top line of these sneakers and will prevent any sort of uncomfortable rubbing on the back of your leg.

Being that this is a sock cut intended for casual or athletic use, the quarter sock oftentimes comes with a fair bit of cushion for greater comfort.

Crew / Over-the-Calf – Whether you are looking for a pair of socks to be worn while playing basketball or you are searching for your next dress sock, crew or over-the-calf socks will be the highest sock cut of the bunch.

Great for all scenarios, the crew sock will do a good job at not only keeping the lower half of your leg warm, but it ensures that no skin is shown, particularly when wearing dress pants and crossing your legs.

For men looking for improved circulation to their lower extremities, you will want to look for compression crew socks.

As we mentioned earlier, socks come in three primary categories: casual, athletic and dressy.

Now we won’t expand too much in this particular area as its fairly self-explanatory; however, we did want to make a few quick mentions on each of these different sock types:

Casual – Typically the most comfortable of the bunch, casual socks are intended for daily and non-formal use.

They are usually made from cotton and offer some great breathability properties.

While it might be tempting to use a casual sock inside your running shoe, many brands, even those that are athletically-centered, make a separate sock for high performance applications.

The reason is that softer cotton-based casual socks may cause blisters on the bottom of your feet due to the friction between the foot, sock and bed of your shoe.

So be sure that you don’t try and extend the use of your casual socks beyond their intended application.

Athletic – As we eluded to previously, athletic socks are going to be completely different from both casual and, of course, dressy or formal socks.

Typically made from polyester and spandex, athletic socks feature moisture wicking properties that reduce the chances of blisters occurring on your feet.

In addition to having some critical moisture control and venting capabilities, athletic socks also feel like a second skin on your feet and are great for joggers.

Dressy – Dress socks have evolved a great deal in recent years.  What was once considered a great sea of navy and black in the men’s section of the department store is now available in a wide array of colors.

They have become a great way to demonstrate your distinct personality and sense of style while keeping the appearance formal.

Should your workplace or occasion allow, have fun with some funky colored socks here.

Now if you are going for a job interview, work in finance or are attending a funeral, you will probably want to tone things down and go with a more conservative sock choice.

Technology used in making socks has vastly improved over the years.

Instead of just having your standard sock made from cotton and a little bit of elastane, socks now come equipped with better technology such as moisture wicking, reinforced footbeds, compression fibers for increased blood flow, etc.

What’s the key takeaway here?

If you find that your feet are constantly getting pretty smelly and you felt like you have tried everything, simply looking for some foot odor control tech built into the sock is definitely worth considering.

The biggest culprit of smelly feet isn’t the food you had, nor is it the type of shoes you wore, but rather it’s the fact that moisture was being trapped in your socks and the bacteria could fester, multiply and emit a foul odor.

If this hits a bit too close to home, get a sock with moisture wicking technology baked in; you (and others around you) will thank us later.

Style Preference

When it comes to styles, this largely boils down to personal preference.  Whether you are looking to just go with a solid block of color, a pattern or even a drawing – the choice is yours.

As we mentioned previously in the dress sock section of occasions, you will want to exercise some self-discretion when choosing your socks.

Wearing pictures of puppies on your socks probably wouldn’t be a good idea to wear to an interview – unless, of course, you are interviewing for a job at an animal shelter or Petco.

The biggest takeaway here – know your audience, and don’t be afraid of letting a little bit of your personality show through in your sock selection.

Socks come in a wide variety of price points.

Whether you are looking for something that can be worn for days without needing to be changed, like the 72-Hour Merino Crew Sock, or one that is more budget-friendly like the Dickies Dri-Tech Quarter Socks, it’s largely up to you.

Based on our research, we found that the cost of socks often correlates to additional features or higher quality / purity of fabrics used in the construction of the sock.

Overall, expect to pay about $20 for a decent pair of socks.

Monthly Clubs

Everything has turned to a subscription model as of late…

…and socks are no exception.

Services like Sock Club and Sock Fancy help to build your sock selection over the course of the year and provide some awesome seasonal offerings.

These services are perfect for men who aren’t really the most fashion savvy and need a bit of handholding when it comes to ideas or colors that work well at various times of the year.

In addition to providing you with socks on a monthly basis, many sock subscription services offer a ‘Pay as You Go’ plan which is a great option if you only need a few new socks sent over.

Overall, we would recommend services like this if you work in a formal office setting where you are required to dress up daily.

Reviews of the Best Socks for Men in 2019

After researching for several hours and reading the feedback of other men, here were a few socks that we wanted to share with you:

72-Hour Merino Crew Socks

Materials: 63% Merino Wool / 33% Nylon / 3% Spandex | Sock Height: Crew | Color Variants: 1 – Black | Sizes Available: 2 | Noteworthy Tech: Odor Neutralizing / Moisture Wicking

  • Can be worn for days with no odor
  • Moisture wicking tech prevents odor build up
  • Made in the USA

  • Limited size options
  • Expensive

Known as both the extreme hiker and also lazy man’s sock, the 72-Hour Merino Crew Socks are perfect for those long adventures outdoors or simply as a casual sock to wear during the daily grind of life.

As the name infers on this pair of socks by Proof, they are made to be worn for multiple days as they won’t build up any sort of nasty odors or become damp as the natural merino wool will work to wick away any moisture from your feet.

Now normally most men are wary of purchasing wool socks as they may become a bit too hot after only be worn for a few minutes – and that may have been true in the past (especially with thick wool socks). However, with socks built from merino wool, quite the opposite is true.

As evident in this Reddit thread, one Redditor made mention that they had no problems wearing merino wool socks for weeks on end:

There were many other comments within this same thread that further supported that merino socks (not necessarily shirts) are great for extended use.

Now beyond its ability to stop odor from permeating, these socks are also incredibly comfortable and thick, making them feel much better than your standard cotton crew sock.

Lastly, the price.

Given that these are made to be worn in a much heavier manner – you won’t need as many to get you through the week.  Double that with a fiber that needs to be manually sourced, then you have a price tag that continues to rise, making this one of the more expensive pair of socks on our list.

Bottom Line

The hype is true when it comes to merino wool.  As evident in the screenshot above, men love this fabric when it comes to socks.  The ability to be worn for days on end without stinking is great for both hiking and casual wear.

The Kennedy Luxury Athletic Sock

Materials: 77% Supima Cotton / 14% Nylon / 7% Polyester / 2% Spandex | Sock Height: Crew | Color Variants: 2 | Sizes Available: 1 (Shoe Size 8.5 – 13) | Noteworthy Tech: Premium Materials

  • High Supima Cotton concentration is incredibly soft
  • Made in the USA
  • Inspired by our 35th President

  • Pricey for a pair of socks
  • Available in only one size

If there is any one president of the United States known for their style, it would have to be John F. Kennedy.

Known primarily for wearing his Tortoise Ray-Ban Wayfarers, Kennedy also developed quite the following for his sock choice as well:

The fashion that this man wore still lives on today with the Kennedy-inspired luxury athletic sock by American Trench.

Mimicking the same exact look as the socks Kennedy wore, this contemporary take has come with modern-tech built in.

The most notable feature of this luxury athletic sock will undoubtedly be the heavy reliance on Supima Cotton (77% of total sock).

This extra-long staple cotton represents less than 1% of total cotton grown in the world and gives the sock key properties, including increased breathability, softness and color retention (

When working in the medical field, your scrub pants shouldn’t be a source of constant distraction, nor should they look like they were out of the 1970s.

Instead of worrying about your pants, the focus should, of course, be placed on the patient.

With more men entering the medical field in droves, scrub companies such as Figs and Carhartt have taken notice and started offering more contemporary and tailored styles that not only look much better, but also feel better as well.

But a quality scrub shouldn’t just look and feel good; it should also have a great blend of fabrics for both quick drying and durability, provide plenty of function through smart pocket locations, and perhaps most importantly, be affordable – like the Cherokee Workwear Professional Scrubs for men.

The scope of today’s guide is separated into three parts:

  1. A few things you should think about before you purchase your next scrub
  2. Reviews of all of the most popular and highest rated scrubs for men
  3. How to care for your scrubs so you can effectively remove stains while also sharing a few tips on what you can wear underneath your scrubs.

Let’s dig in:

Before You Decide: A Few Things to Think About

Whether you have seen your fair share of experiences or you are fresh out of med school, here’s a few things to be on the lookout for when buying new scrubs:

Waist Closure

When looking at all the different types of scrubs, you will see primarily three different waist closure options:

  1. Button Up
  2. Elastic
  3. Drawstring

There are definitely arguments for each of the above, but truth be told, it largely comes down to personal preference.

Here’s a quick note on each and a few nuggets worth thinking about:

Button Up – Great for having a closure that won’t wear out nor come untied, a buttoned waist is nearly always paired with an elastic waist band – as seen on the Dickies Scrub Pant.

If there was any downside of the button up waist, it would have to do with elasticity wear and weight fluctuations.  Since it’s not recommended to wear a belt with your scrubs (unless you want a good jeering from your co-workers), naturally with time, the waist will become loose and need to get replaced.

Elastic – Typically found on the cheapest of scrub pants, the elastic waist band is great for putting on and taking off your pants with ease.

But you have to be careful here; too tight of a waist band will lead to discomfort and just general annoyance.  Opposite of a restricted waist band, one that is too loose may cause sagging in the pants which equally becomes annoying as they will have to be pulled up throughout the day.

Drawstring – The most common waist closure on scrubs will definitely be the drawstring.  Not only is this option one of the cheapest, but it’s also one of the most reliable.

While you may lose some comfort as the string can dig into your waist, the drawstring ensures that the scrubs stay snug against your waist.  Therefore, when taking on a 12-hour shift, you don’t have to worry about fixing your pants; instead, you can focus on the patient.

Fabric Blend

During our research we found that scrubs often come in three main fabrics:

  1. Cotton
  2. Polyester
  3. Spandex / Elastane

Here’s why each of the following are definitely worth thinking about:

Cotton is used in everything, from undershirts to denim, and naturally it plays a big role in scrubs as well.

But here’s the deal:

A quality pair of scrubs for men shouldn’t be made from 100% cotton.

The reason primarily is due to the fact that cotton wrinkles incredibly easy and is also susceptible to tearing.

However, the reason why it is still important to have some cotton fibers woven into your scrubs is that it provides breathability.

As you often find yourself doing physically demanding tasks, the extra breathability of your scrub will ensure that you don’t get too sweaty (or smelly) by the end of the day.

Invented in 1941 and becoming wildly popular in the 1970s, polyester has gotten a poor, and severely misplaced, reputation over the years.

While it’s not a natural fabric like cotton, polyester has many merits that make it the perfect fiber for scrubs, the most important feature being its strength.

Able to withstand abuse like no other fabric, polyester can withstand the rigors of the medical field with relative ease.  In addition to being incredibly strong, polyester also holds its form really well, too.

This makes your scrubs look somewhat presentable when talking to patients w hile not looking like a wrinkled mess.

Spandex / Elastane

Like polyester, elastane is a synthetic fiber that works its way into several different types of clothing.

When working with patients, the work can get fairly demanding.  The little bit of extra stretch in the fabric will help to reduce any chance of ripping or tearing in the fabric.

This not only makes working a bit easier, but it will also save you money on having to replace any shredded scrubs.

When it comes to selecting a pair of scrubs, one key feature you must think about is the fit.

Whether it’s the tops or the pants, you will find that scrubs come in different cuts.

Here’s what you need to look out for when looking for the perfect scrub for you:

Unisex Scrubs

Unisex scrubs are great and are often one of the most affordable picks out there.

But given that it’s designed for both men and women, the scrub itself is not at all tailored.

So, if you are looking to save a few bucks on your scrubs and don’t mind the unisex association of the scrub, you can expect it to be fairly baggy and square.

We would recommend this type of scrub for men who are in more of a back-office job and don’t have to worry about appearing presentable to either doctors or patients.

V-Neck vs. Crew Neck

When looking at all the scrubs on the market, by and large the most popular cut for the top was the V-Neck.

V-Necks are easy to take on and off while also providing a fair bit of breathability to increase comfort when on longer shifts.

Crew necks, such as the Dickies Dynamix, are a great pick for men who want a scrub that fits more like a t-shirt.

Now, if you are a bit self-conscious about your body or chest hair but still want a V-neck cut for function, then pairing it with an underscrub makes perfect sense.

Underscrubs are form-fitting undershirts that can withstand daily abuse just like a pair of scrubs (more on this in a minute).

Jogger Pants, Cargo Pants, Standard

With scrubs for men becoming ever more popular, additional style variants are starting to become popular.

Here’s a quick overview on each of the pants varieties:

Jogger pants

Found in both the Dickies and Cherokee lines, jogger pants are a much more contemporary scrub pant that is perfect for physically toned men.

Nearly forming to the contours of your body, jogger pants allow for much greater comfort when walking throughout the day.

Given that these scrubs often contain a fair bit of spandex or elastane, you never have to worry about them splitting or restricting movement.

If you want to look your best while at work, go with the jogger scrub pants.

Cargo pants

Undoubtedly one of the most popular types of pants within the medical field will be the cargo pants.

One word: Function.

The extra set of pockets along your legs allow you to carry any sort of reference material, pens, etc. at all times.

Standard scrubs are great for men who find themselves replacing their pants due to stains, tears, etc. on a regular basis.

If you have to deal with some rough situations while at work, standard pants are often cheaper and much easier to replace.

While sure, they are absent of the pockets like the cargo pants nor as form fitting as the joggers, these pants will still get you through the task at hand.

Building off the last section, one of the most important things to think about before purchasing a set of scrubs isn’t necessarily the fabric or fit, but rather the function.

As anyone in the medical field can attest to, pockets are key.

Not only do they allow for organization, but given that you don’t have a desk you sit at all day, pockets bring all the necessary instruments and materials with you at all times.

So, if you ever find yourself fishing through your two pants pockets for everything, think about buying a pair of scrubs with a few extra pockets in order to make your day just a little bit easier and less hectic.

By and large, when shopping for scrubs, you should expect to pay about $20 for a set.

However, companies like Figs are starting to challenge this notion and are offering a pair of scrubs at much higher price points (about $50 for a top).

By offering higher grade fabrics and more tailored cuts, they are currently re-inventing a field where fashion was never really considered before.

What does this mean for you?

If you care about your outwards appearance and want uncompromising fabrics, then there are brands out there ready to serve you.

However, if you are just looking for something functional, comfortable and won’t fail you during your long and strenuous shifts, then there are some great scrubs that will also work well for you that we highlighted in our reviews below.

While simply wearing scrubs is enough for plenty of men out there, there are a few who like to have a bit more coverage.

Whether it’s due to the frigid cold temps on the floor or perhaps you are just a bit self-conscious about some chest hair poking out, underscrubs are a great way to solve these problems.

When it comes to the top half of your body, some men in the medical field like to double up their scrubs with a Henley or simply an undershirt.

Undershirts designed for use with scrubs, like this one from Figs, are a bit more form-fitting than your standard undershirt, making them less susceptible to come in contact with suspect fluids.

For the bottom half of your body, given that you are on your feet for the better part of the day, compression socks for men are a great way to increase circulation and comfort to your lower extremities.

While they do sell specific ones for those in the medical field, just a simple pair of compression socks will get the job done.

Reviews of The Best Scrubs for Men In 2019

After several hours worth of research, here’s our findings of some of the most comfortable and high performance scrubs designed for men:

Carhartt Men’s Ripstop Utility Scrub

Materials: 55% Cotton / 45% Polyester | Pockets: 1 | Color Variants: 12 | Don’t Forget the Pants: Carhartt Utility Scrub Bottom

  • Smart design for greater range of motion
  • Fabric is thick enough to resist tears, yet provides breathability
  • Extra length on back provides additional coverage when bending over

  • Must be purchased with the scrub bottoms to make up for lack of pockets
  • Somewhat expensive compared to most

Trusted by men since 1889, Carhartt is all but guaranteed to withstand some of the toughest conditions you throw at it.

Their trademark cotton and polyester blend is terrific at not only providing plenty of ventilation, but also at resisting tears and wrinkles.

While the pockets for this particular scrub top are fairly limited with only one chest pocket, when doubled with the Carhartt Utility Scrub Bottom that has eight pockets, organization won’t be an issue.

A few other standout features about this particular scrub from Carhartt that caught our attention and many other men’s is the color variety, 12 in total, along with a tagless back to prevent any discomfort or itchiness throughout the day.

Unlike some of the other scrubs out there, Carhartt does take comfort a bit further than just simply a tagless back by having a bi-swing at the back yoke.

What does this mean?

Greater range and comfort of movement, especially when you may be lifting up or setting down patients.

Bottom Line

Carhartt is a trusted brand by many and is built with uncompromising quality.  Their designs are made for optimal comfort and movement.  If you are a man who finds themselves getting their hands dirty, you will love the range of motion and breathability in the Carhartt scrubs.

Dagacci Scrubs for Men

Materials: 50% Cotton / 50% Polyester| Pockets: 8 (3 top / 5 bottom) | Color Variants: 24

  • Greater starter set of scrubs
  • 8 pockets allow for organization at an arm’s reach
  • Color choice is one of the best out there

  • Somewhat restricted range of motion compared to the nicer brands
  • Unisex design is unflattering and not tailored

For the men looking to shave a few bucks off their scrubs bill – then the Unisex Dagacci Scrubs make perfect sense.

This complete set costs about $20 making it one of the cheapest picks on our list.

Now naturally, given that this is designed for both men and women, there will definitely be some compromises made when it comes to build quality.

Noticeably absent from these scrubs will be any “manly” design aesthetics such as a tapered leg, extended yoke for greater range of movement and pockets galore on the pants.

However, for the price and the general design, it’s still not a bad deal, especially if you are neck deep in student loans and simply need a scrub to get you through the day.

When it comes to color selection, this scrub has quite a few–24 in total.  However, being that you are shopping for masculine colors, we spotted about 12 useful colors (mostly the neutrals and blues).

A few other fit, fabric and functional aspects that stood out on this scrub was that it was made from a 50/50 blend of cotton and polyester, making a great everyday scrub.

The Dagacci scrub set has eight pockets—three up top and five on the bottom.

Lastly, the waist on this set of scrubs features a mixture of both an elastic band and drawstring so you won’t have to worry about your pants sagging throughout the day.

Bottom Line

For the value delivered, this is a great set of scrubs for those just starting out.  They are affordable, made from quality materials and have eight pockets for easy organization.

M&M Scrubs for Men

Materials: 65% Polyester / 35% Cotton | Pockets: 8 (3 top / 5 bottom) | Color Variants: 22

  • Highly durable fabric composition
  • Color variety is great for men
  • Smart pocket locations allow for easy access

  • Restricted breathability in the fabric
  • Range of motion may be limited due to lack of smart design and elastic fibers

A nice transition from the Dagacci unisex scrub set will be this set by M&M.

Designed specifically for men, it offers a bit more tailored fit while still providing you with plenty of function.

As any man in the medical field will tell you, pockets are key when selecting a set of scrubs.

Like the Dagacci’s, these scrubs by M&M offer eight pockets in total – three on the shirt and five on the pants (2 front – 3 cargo).

Not only will this make for easier access to your important reference cards or instruments, but the sheer amount ensures that you don’t have to pile everything into only a few pockets and find yourself constantly fishing through them to get what you need.

Now, of all the scrubs featured on our list, the M&M scrubs do contain quite a heavy mixture of polyester compared to cotton – 65% vs 35%.

This not only decreases breathability, but also given that there is no elastane or spandex contained within the fabric, they may feel just a touch more rigid than most.

While you may lose a bit when it comes to range of motion and breathability, the M&M scrubs will be resistant to ripping, allowing these to have quite a lifespan.

Lastly, the cost.

At about $20 bucks for a complete scrub set, these are fairly cheap and will work great for most men.

Just a quick word of note – they do run a little bit larger, so if you want something a bit more form-fitting, go a size smaller.

Bottom Line

These scrubs are a highly durable and affordable offering for men who find themselves in some pretty rough situations time and time again.  Just be sure to get a size smaller as they do run large.

A belt is one of those purchases that are typically made off the cuff and only when you are in a pinch.

But here’s the deal:

Belts are another way to express your sense of style in a subtle, yet powerful way.

Not knowing when to wear the right type of belt will lead you to commit a fashion faux pas that makes it easier for others to take notice, and it also may just simply look downright bad.

A quality belt should not only serve its intended style application well (i.e. dress vs. casually), but it should also be made from quality materials that won’t break down in months, looks great and has the right balance between buckle size, belt width and color choices – like the Red Wing Heritage Pioneer men’s belt.

The scope of today’s guide is split into three sections:

  1. Share a few key points you will want to think about before purchasing a belt (you will want to pay attention here)
  2. Reviews of some of the most utilitarian and fashionable belts for men
  3. How to store and care for your belt so it will last a lifetime.

Let’s dig in:

Before You Decide: A Few Things to Think About

As we dove headfirst into our research in pursuit of the best belts for men, we found that there were nine distinct areas that are important to think about when buying a belt.

While this may seem like overkill, it really isn’t, and definitely not skipped upon.

Not only will taking just a minute or two to think about each one of the areas below lead you to finding the perfect belt for you, but you will also be able to spot a quality belt from afar, ultimately giving you much greater confidence if you visit your local department or men’s clothing retail store.

Here’s what you need to know:

One of the most confusing aspects of buying a belt for a lot of men will be around finding the right size.

Going with a belt that is too long will not only look bad, but the extended tongue will constantly get in the way, especially if you just have to go to the bathroom.

Belt sizes should not be the same as your denim size (even if you are wearing form fitting skinny jeans).

And if you take a minute to think about this, it makes complete sense.

The denim that you buy is based on your actual waist size; however, the belt that you buy is going on top of your denim, so naturally you need to add an inch or two.

During our research, we came across this helpful table from Levi’s that tells you what length belt to go with in order to ensure a proper fit:

As you can see in the table above, a man with a 34″ waist should actually go with a 38″ belt.

Buckle Type and Size

In the world of belts, there are many different types of buckles.

A few of the more popular types are as follows:

  1. Pin buckle
  2. Double pin buckle
  3. Military/grip buckle
  4. Roller buckle
  5. Autogrip buckle

Sure, there are certainly a few more obscure buckle types that exist within the market, but today we are just covering the more popular variants that exist.

Buckle type aside, things get a bit more complicated when you throw in the occasion of which you are wearing the belt – namely dress vs. casual.

When it comes to buckle choice, for dress or formal scenarios, you will want to go with either a single pin buckle (#1 above) or an autogrip buckle (#6 above) – both have a much more streamline design and won’t be distracting to the viewer or call for too much attention.

However, when it comes to casual use (i.e. weekends), any of the above (including both #1 and #6) will be fine and you won’t incidentally be committing any fashion faux pas.

But that doesn’t mean you can simply buy any belt and use it with a pair of denims.

There are still two other things that you must consider: belt width and materials used.

Belt Width

Generally, the rule for men’s belts is that the thinner or narrower belt varieties are suited for formal use, while the “beefier” or wider belts are for casual use.

There are some belts that try to go between both natures by being reversible.

But the cold hard fact remains that even though you can flip a belt to be black or brown and one may look more formal, the width is still the same.

A general guide is that for dress or formal occasions, you will want to get a belt that is about 1.25″ to just under 1.5″.

For casual belts, you typically will want to go with anything greater than 1.5″.

Be sure to read the product descriptions from the manufacturer before you make your purchase in order to get a better idea of the type of belt you are ordering.

Belts come in a wide variety of materials, including ballistic nylon, full grain leather, suede, canvas and other natural fibers.

Generally speaking, if you are getting a belt for a dress occasion, then you will want to go with a shiny leather belt.

But you have to be careful here – make sure that you pick up a belt that is full grain leather as opposed to genuine leather.  While they may sound similar, these two materials are starkly different.

Genuine leather is the lowest form of leather and is typically bits of hide that has been glued together and painted to give the appearance of a full grain leather.

Genuine leather will not only look worse with time but will require replacement sooner as the leather and glue will break down and ultimately begin to rip.

Full grain leather, on the other hand, will look and feel better over the years but should also last you a lifetime.

Given the starkly different qualities, most men fashion experts recommend going with a full grain leather belt as it will be much shinier and look better when paired with a blazer or full suit.

Beyond leather, natural fibers such as cotton or synthetic fibers like nylon also make for great belt materials.

Not only will these materials cost a fraction of the price, but they can withstand quite a bit of abuse, especially nylon belts.

However, given that these are more rugged materials, they are suited only for casual or informal office use.

Like anything in the men’s fashion world, belts can range anywhere between $50, like those seen at Macy’s…

…to those costing more than $1,000 at Mr. Porter:

Yes, you saw that right – $1,290 for a single belt.

Sticker shock aside, how much you spend on a belt is entirely up to you.

However, based on our research, if you want one of decent quality, expect to pay north of $50.

It was around this price point and above that we saw the quality marks really increase (better raw materials, proper sizes, contemporary buckles, etc.).

If paying more than $50 for a belt seems to be excessive, don’t worry, we have you covered.

Below we also reviewed a few more budget friendly belts that won’t clean out your wallet.

The decision on which material that you go with for your belt will determine its “washability”.

If you decide to buy a cotton or nylon fiber belt, then you can simply toss it into the washer (just let it hang dry) to clean it up.

However, for those men who want a full grain leather belt, you will want to get the proper cleaning solutions.

At the end of this guide, we will go over a few steps on what you should do in order to take proper care of your belt.

Weather Proofing

Of course, if you are looking for a leather belt, this won’t be a consideration at all, but for those going for the military or tactical look, you will want to pay attention.

For the men who are looking to get rugged and like to hit the trails on the weekends, a belt that has some built-in weather proofing can be helpful.

Not only will this ensure that the belt holds its structure when you brave the elements, but it will continue to look great long after it has dried off.

Like purchasing a pair of pants, the belt that you buy should be muted in color (i.e. brown, black, etc.).

Not only will this increase its versatility, but you can also confidently wear the same belt every day as an ancillary accessory rather than a statement.

Now for the men who do like to make a fashion statement, high visibility belts are a great way to add a complementary design or color flair to your overall style.

Most fashion forward men will have at least four belts in their wardrobe as they can easily swap them out every other day to switch things up.

Naturally, this all comes down to personal preference.  So, if you like things a bit bolder, then take a look at some of the color varieties out there.

Online vs. In Store Shopping Experience

Look….we know that shopping online is nothing new; however, when it comes to purchasing a belt, we would highly advise against going into a store and buying a belt on a whim.

We humans are incredibly bad at trying to measure things with our eyes; it’s just one of those things we were never programmed for.

As we stressed earlier about the importance of belt width (narrower for dress or wider for casual), you can actually read the exact measurements online so you can find the perfect belt for your style.

Secondly, when you deal with the hassle of one of those “thrifty” fashion stores, they often have subpar materials (i.e. genuine leather) and just generally have crummier quality for not that much cheaper – not to mention that you will be back in there in a few months’ time buying a replacement belt.

Where are we going with this?

Buy online – the selection is better, you have a better idea of measurements and you can typically get better prices when coupled with a deal or promo.

Reviews Of The Best Belts For Men In 2019

Here’s a few belts that not only caught our attention, but were also highly rated and hit high marks on many of the consideration points mentioned above:

YOSAR Guide Belt by Arcade Belt Co.

Materials: Nylon / Leather / Alloy | Buckle:  Loop | Color Variants: 1 | Sizes Available: 41″

  • A belt that raises money for a cause
  • Made from high grade materials that can be washed easily
  • Cool tactical/military look

  • Limited size options (only 1)
  • Can’t really be dressed up for semi-formal occasions

There is a whole lot to love in this adventure belt by Arcade Belt Co.

But what caught our attention first was the noble cause behind the belt.

In this collaboration between both Huckberry & Arcade Belt Co., they created the YOSAR Guide belt that is “Dedicated to the men and women who perform daring rescues at a moment’s notice in Yosemite National Park” (YOSAR).

Every year, the YOSAR saves an average of 200 lives.  These are men and women who either planned improperly, pushed themselves beyond the limits or somehow or another found themselves in a precarious situation.

The YOSAR plunges into these dangerous situations, be it on the side of a cliff, water, deep wood hiking trail, etc. to do their job.

With every belt sold, 10% of the sale goes directly to YOSAR, making this the only belt on our list that doesn’t go into some corporate executives’ pocket.

Now causes aside, there is still a ton to love about this belt, especially for casual weekend wear.

Crafted from a ballistic nylon coupled with premium leather accents and an alloy buckle, it is built to last.

In addition to the quality materials, the nearly tactical look is great for men who are a bit more utilitarian and want a bit more from their accessories.

With a “one size fits all” approach, there may be a bit of extra tongue on the belt should you run a bit slimmer.  The belt is 41″ in length and should be okay for men with 34″ waists and larger.

Bottom Line

It’s a really cool belt that is attached to a noble cause.  Naturally, the nylon and alloy buckle make this only good for casual wear.  We wish there were a few sizes available.

Double D Ring Belt by Drittze

Materials: Canvas | Buckle:  Double Ring | Color Variants: 1 | Sizes Available: 10

  • Great secondary belt
  • Perfect for weekend or casual wear
  • Double ring design allows for perfect belt tightness
  • Wide enough to not cut into waist (especially if larger)
  • Incredibly affordable

  • Can’t really be dressed up for semi-formal occasions
  • Doesn’t carry a high-end designer name

With 10 different sizes available and a belt width of 1.5″, the Double D Ring men’s belt by Drittze is a perfect casual and weekender belt that is incredibly affordable.

Relying on canvas as its primary material (although it does have a little leather accent on the end), this double ring belt is great for men who want a no-frills belt.

Retailing for less than $15 – although prices can vary depending on belt length – this is a great way to add variety to your wardrobe through a simple accessory.

One nice aspect about this belt that a lot of men who wore it loved was its long-term use.

While your typical single prong belt can work at a variety of waist sizes, all too often some men may get a bit frustrated with its limitations as the belt may feel a hair too tight or loose.

With the double ring approach here, you dial in the tightness to your exact preference, all without having to worry about the belt slipping.

Bottom Line

Overall, this is a great pick for men who like the more canvas or natural look.  It’s an incredibly affordable belt that is great for weekend wear.

Bulliant Slide Ratchet Belt for Men

Materials: Genuine Leather | Buckle:  Slide Ratchet | Color Variants: 38 | Sizes Available: 6

  • Cut to size is unique
  • Ratcheting system gives you the perfect fit every time
  • Incredibly affordable given the features
  • 100% satisfaction guarantee
  • Color selection is out of this world

  • Genuine leather means it won’t last a lifetime

With over 2,000 reviews (nearly all overwhelmingly positive), this belt by Bulliant is one of the most popular and highly rated picks on Amazon. This inevitably begs the question, why?

Here’s what we found out:

First, color selection.

The Bulliant belt is available in 38 different colors, firmly making it the one belt on our list with the most color varieties (perhaps most in the market as well).

Second, the fit.

Unlike belts that have pre-drilled holes for the single or double prong to go through, or the autogrips that lose their ability to stay fixed over several months of wearing, the Bulliant employs a new ratchet-like system that allows the buckle to traverse up and down the belt to find the perfect setting for you.

Why is this beneficial?

Two words:

Weight fluctuation.

In any day, our body can shift a few pounds both in the black or red.  With this unique sliding design, you can get the perfect fit every time you put on the belt no matter if you gain or lose a few pounds and find that you are between sizes.

Lastly, and perhaps the most unique area of this belt, is that you can cut to size.

For those men who don’t want a long tongue on their belt, simply pull out a pair a scissors, cut to size and clamp it back into the buckle.

Now of course, given that this belt retails for about $20 a pop, there are inevitably a few drawbacks.

Most notably will be the material quality itself.  Given that you can cut this belt with a pair of scissors, you will see that it’s made from genuine leather (remember this is a mix between hide and glue/binder).

So, it’s not built to last for years like other leather belts on our list.

Bottom Line

It’s a unique belt that delivers on both fit and colors.  At only 1.375″ wide, it’s a perfect belt to wear for formal/dress scenarios.  The clean appearance is also versatile.

Levi’s Men’s Work Belt

Materials: 100% Genuine Leather | Buckle:  Double Prong | Color Variants: 5 | Sizes Available: 8

  • Affordable belt from a trusted brand
  • Double prongs ensure greater comfort and subtly rugged design
  • Wide belt width of 1.54″ won’t dig into your waist

  • Made from genuine leather – won’t last a lifetime
  • Surface may fray over time

When it comes to the world of denims and making them look sharp, there is no better expert in the world..

There is no denying the change in jean styles over the years.

While your old crusty pair of JNCOs may have been a hit in the early 2000s, stylish men of today are now finding themselves wearing much more contemporary skinny jeans.

Skinny jeans not only provide a bit higher level of sophistication and style when compared to your standard regular or bootcut jeans, they can also really make you look a whole lot better.

Quality skinny jeans should not only wear comfortably on your body but should be crafted from a fine denim and withstand quite a bit of abuse – like the Levi 510s or Everlane Skinny Fit Jeans.

The focus of today’s guide is going to be in three main areas:

  1. Go over a few things you will want to think about before purchasing a pair of skinny jeans.
  2. Reviews of some of the most popular skinny jeans on the market today (plus a few hidden gems).
  3. Give you a quick style crash course in skinny jeans so you will look dapper when wearing your new pants.

Before You Buy: Six Things to Think About

When it comes to buying a pair of skinny jeans, it just simply isn’t as easy as finding the correct waist size and length and hitting that ‘Buy Now’ button.

As you will see in our reviews here in a minute, the quality and nuances between skinny jeans can vary quite a bit from one brand to another.

However, based on all the research that we did when putting together this guide, we were able to identify 6 key components when buying skinny jeans.

So be sure that you take just a minute to read and think about each of these areas before making your purchase:

When it comes to jeans (both skinny jeans and beyond), you will want to set a budget ahead of time before making your purchase.

Not only will this set your expectations when your new skinny jeans come in the mail, but you can also expect a certain level of quality (more on this in a minute).

What may be affordable to one may be quite a stretch on the wallet for another; therefore, in our reviews of the brands below, we tried to find skinny jeans that fit budgets generally between $20 and $150.

Naturally, you will want to take a minute to think about how much you will be comfortable spending.

As with all facets in the world of fashion, the brand of jeans can have a huge impact on the price that you pay.

Whether you are going with Scotch & Soda, Everlane, Baldwin, Levi’s or even simply a private label brand like Goodthreads (owned by Amazon), there are certain premiums that you will be required to pay.

Now you might be asking yourself, “Is it really worth paying the premium for the brand?”

To be quite honest, the answer is mixed.

We found that some premium brands (particularly Baldwin) wear incredibly well with time.

Sure, their pants may cost a fair chunk of change, but even after a year, they will still look and feel incredibly great.

But not every man wearing jeans chases brands, so go with what you are comfortable with here.

When it comes to selecting the perfect pair of skinny jeans for you, quality is important.

We are all probably familiar with the experience of owning a crummy pair of jeans.

They go on nice at the store, but after the initial wash, they feel incredibly stiff, they lose quite a bit of color and quickly become faded and they just generally start to have structural problems (fraying on the cuffs, belt loops breaking, pockets getting holes, etc.).

While fit is uniquely personal to your body, when it comes to quality, your jeans shouldn’t fall apart or lose their color quickly.

Therefore, we took quite a bit of time during our research to read reviews from other men and learned what they had to say.

While reviews shouldn’t be the only determining factor, it still is the best way (at least we think) for looking at various aspects of a particular jeans’ quality.

Naturally, the more you do pay for a pair of jeans, the more strict we were on this rating.  Therefore, we feel confident that any one of the brands below should be able to withstand an acceptable test of time.

From the onset, skinny jeans seem like a fairly straightforward purchase.

It’s just a pair of jeans that has been cut in a slightly more aggressive and tapered style, right?

Not exactly…

As we went deeper into our research, we found that skinny jeans came in two primary categories:

  • Standard denim cut
  • Spray-on skinny jeans

The standard denim cut is indeed the typical skinny jean that has been cut to be a bit more tapered and will contain very little in synthetic fibers (typically 2% or less of elastane) and will be a bit more rigid.

Opposite of the standard denim cut will be the spray-on skinny jeans.

Perfect for those men who have really toned quads and calves, these contain a bit higher percentage of elastane and will effectively “stick” to your leg.

While this type of skinny jean may sound rather uncomfortable, it really isn’t.

More akin to leggings, this jean moves with your leg and promotes a greater range of motion.  However, we would caution you before buying these type of jeans unless, of course, you are much more confident in your body physique.

Building off the last point, skinny jeans can be worn for many different occasions.

Whether you are hitting the bars or clubs on a Friday night with your buddies, or you’re looking for a pair of skinny jeans simply for casual or office wear, they are very much like chinos and are rather versatile.

Generally speaking, the tighter the skinny jeans the less you will want to wear it to formal or work-related occasions (they just aren’t nearly as professional).

If unsure, we would recommend just going with a pair of the Levi’s 510s in a black or dark blue color as these are both a fairly conservative pick and shouldn’t draw too much attraction.

We would venture to say that 99.99% of men reading this article right now are fairly certain on what their measurement sizes are when it comes to denim…

…but we would also feel fairly confident in saying that those reading this haven’t likely measured themselves within the past six months…

…and that’s completely okay!

However, when it comes to purchasing skinny jeans, given that they are a bit less forgiving when compared to the other cuts of jeans, we strongly recommend that you break out the fabric tape measure and do a quick measure.

A well-fitted pair of skinny jeans should not only feel comfortable around the waist without having much slack, but also it shouldn’t bunch up at the bottom of your legs (this is always a great way to quickly see if a man knows how to measure himself).

To give you a bit clearer guidance, we wanted to include this helpful diagram from Levi’s that demonstrates where you need to take the measurements:

Check out the size guide here.

By using this guide, you can get the perfect waist and inseam measurements for your new pair of jeans.  Of course, each brand does typically offer their own measurement diagram as well for further help.

Review of the Best Skinny Jeans for Men in 2019 Levi’s 510

Materials: 99% Cotton / 1% Elastane | Fly Closure: Zip | Pockets: 5 | Color Variants: 13

  • Timeless style from a timeless brand
  • Retains original color after several washes
  • Little bit of elastane provides stretch
  • Reasonably priced

  • Lint/dust shows on darker colors
  • Calves area might be a bit too loose for some

The trademark denim known ‘round the world since 1853, San Francisco-based Levi’s is the brand many men turn to when getting a fresh pair of denims.

For those who want that classic Levi’s denim look and feel but want a more contemporary skinny jean, the 510 line will be your best bet.

With 13 different colors available, the Levi’s 510s are one of the best picks on our list when it comes to personal preference.

Available in a multitude of sizes ranging anywhere between a 26″ to 38″ waist, most men should have no problem squeezing into these denims.

Based on the feedback from other men, they were pretty happy that the colors were retained after several washes while also fitting rather well.

If there were any sort of details that men found to be a bit lacking with these jeans, it would be about how the lower part of the pants look around your calves (some mentioned that it seemed a bit too loose), while also being quite the dust magnet (especially for darker colors).

But as is always the case when it comes to jeans, no two bodies are identical, so what might not work for one person could be a perfect fit for you.

Bottom Line

There is no denying the clout that Levi’s brings to the world of denim, and their skinny jean offering in the 510 line is nothing short of amazing.  If you love Levi’s, then get these jeans; they carry on the legacy incredibly well.

Everlane Skinny Fit Jeans

Materials:  98% Cotton / 2% Elastane | Fly Closure: Fly| Pockets:  5| Color Variants: 4

  • Wide size selection
  • Great quality and craftsmanship
  • Timeless design

  • Slightly higher price than others on our list
  • Color selection may be a bit limited for some

One company that is quickly making waves in the world of men’s fashion is Everlane.  Founded in 2010, they have started making their way into more staple categories, including outerwear, backpacks and yes…denim.

While we recently fell in love with their flagship t-shirt in our recent review of Everlane, we wanted to bring to your attention their skinny jeans for men.

Made from the same composition as the Levi 510s – 98% cotton and 2% elastane, the Everlane skinny fit jeans are a perfect daily and formal pair of pants that wear incredibly well.

As evident in their overly positive ratings (4.7 out of 5.0) with 177 reviews at the time of publication, clearly we weren’t the only ones that thought these jeans delivered strongly on all fronts.

With only four different color variants (which may be a bit limited to some men looking for more distressed or unique looks), Everlane does provide ample size selection.

Whether you are a bit more modest of a man or one that is built rather large, you should have no problem finding a pair of jeans in their 32 different size options.

Naturally, given that these are made by Everlane, they provide insane transparency in their production process and even provide you with a sneak peek at the factory that makes these jeans over in Vietnam (check it out here if you are into that sort of thing).

Bottom Line

Everlane is a terrific company that has worked hard to earn your dollar.  Not only do they have great corporate social responsibility, but they also deliver quality products that are better than most.

Baldwin Slim Jeans

Materials: 98% Cotton / 2% Polyurethane | Fly Closure:  Button | Pockets:  5| Color Variants: 4

  • Made in the USA
  • Quickly becoming the ‘on-trend’ jean
  • Jeans get better with time

  • They are expensive
  • Require a separate alteration post-purchase

Now we understand that we may get some flack from the fashion-astute men out there that are quickly pulling up Gmail to send us a note – by the way, it’s hello {at} our site domain.com if you do – to tell us that slim jeans aren’t the same as skinny fit jeans…

…and we do understand there are subtle differences.

But we couldn’t resist sharing these slick pair of Kansas City based Baldwin jeans.

The 76 Jean in Indigo Raw Stretch Selvage is everything you could possibly want in a quality pair of jeans.

These USA made (a rarity in today’s world) jeans are not only compromised of both natural and synthetic fibers, but the raw-stretched selvage jeans feel incredible, retain their vibrant colors and only get better with time.

Now some men may be a bit apprehensive as they haven’t heard of Baldwin before, especially after plunking down more than a couple hundred bucks for a pair of jeans.  But even in their short history to date (established in 2009 according to this BizJournal interview), they have quickly turned heads in the world of men’s fashion.

For size options, they have a pretty wide selection.

Available in waist sizes between 28″ to 38″, most men reading this should have no problem fitting into them.

However, like the Gingtto’s, the Baldwins only come in one inseam size – 34″.  Therefore, you will need to take a separate trip to the tailor once they arrive to get them hemmed.

Bottom Line

Baldwin is an emerging brand that knows how to put together a quality pair of denim jeans, one of the best jeans currently being made today – just expect to pay a premium.

Madewell Skinny Fit Jeans

Materials: 92% Cotton / 5% Polyester / 3% Elastane| Fly Closure: Zip | Pockets:  5 | Color Variants: 10

  • Versatile for both casual and formal settings
  • Terrific blend of fabrics for increased movement
  • Premium designer brand of jeans

  • Limited size selection
  • Fairly expensive

Madewell is a brand that has quickly risen over the past few years and has been the “go to” choice for affluent men across the U.S.

But what many may not know is that they are a brand that is fully owned by J. Crew (source):

So if you find that you’re old, the J. Crew 484s are feeling a bit tired and you want to upgrade to a pair of the Madewell’s, then you are in luck.

Now what really makes these skinny jeans a bit different from many others on our list is going to be the composition.  Instead of being just 98% cotton / 2% elastane like most, the Madewell Skinny Jeans are a bit more aggressive on the synthetic fibers and have created a jean that contains the following:

  • 92% cotton
  • 5% polyester
  • 3% elastane

What does this mean for you?

Well, you get a pair of jeans that still has high breathability thanks to the heavy reliance on cotton, but it also showcases terrific movement and flexibility.

Therefore, if you want a pair of jeans that aggressively conform to your natural contours yet don’t showcase that spray-on look like the Gingtto’s – then this is a great alternative.

Naturally, given that this is a premium brand by J. Crew, the Madewell Skinny Jeans do command quite a premium.

With a typical retail price north of $100, these skinny jeans are perfect for men who care both about quality and designer brand.

Of course, given that these are from J. Crew, the level of quality in the denim itself is top-notch.

Bottom Line

A perfect pick for men who love J. Crew and are looking for an upgrade.  While they command a premium price, they will look great for both formal and casual occasions.

Buying a suit is tough.

It involves both a ton of time and a substantial cash outlay.

And in most cases, you will get something that is just passable in terms of quality – especially if you go to one of those “warehouse” suit stores…

…you know the ones I am talking about…

Buy 1 suit get 3 free anybody!?!

But what are the alternatives?

Sure, you could go to your local department store and sift through the racks there…

…but then you are going to get something that is mass produced, will need to be altered (typically an additional expense that you have to pay for), will not fit well, and will still cost much more than you are comfortable spending…

…and for what?

To wear it a few times to weddings, funerals, and the occasional interview?

Well guess what…

…all of that changes today.

Today, I want to share with you a company I had the pleasure to test out – Black Lapel.

They are completely turning the retail suit market on its head.

Basically, everything you hate about buying a suit will go away when you experience Black Lapel.

Now I will go over the nitty gritty details in just a minute – but before I do that, I want to cover a bit about the company, what you should expect, and of course the most important part…

…the results (with actual pictures).

Let’s dig in and take a detailed look at Black Lapel:

About Black Lapel

Founded in 2012 by Derek Tian & Warren Liao, this 6-year-old NYC based company has proven the test of time (at least from online standards).

With a single retail location in NYC (10 East 38th Street for the folks who are reading from the NYC area), they largely serve men around the world via their incredibly clear and helpful website.

As you will see in a minute, their measuring and suit selection process is perfect for men who either have no fashion sense at all to those who love control in both customization and bold suit selections.

One of the biggest hanging points that some men (I don’t particularly know why) may have about Black Lapel suits is that they are made in China…

Perhaps it is due to the fact that we are trained with this notion that a quality suit must be hand crafted in some western European country to be considered quality?!

I don’t know…

But as you will see in just a minute, the quality that Black Lapel delivers is second to none and would easily fool even the most fashion savvy of men…

…however, you aren’t likely buying a suit to fool anyone.

After putting on the suit and feeling the fabric, we were (and you soon will be) converts.

As Black Lapel exclaims on their website (and it’s not a fact they are trying to hide in the least), they searched low and high for a decent factory to make their goods…

…not only because their name is on the line at the end of the day, but it makes for a damn fine suit at an affordable price…

Which of course translates to more money in your back pocket.

The Black Lapel Product Selection

This perhaps is one of the stronger points when it comes to Black Lapel (beyond price, quality, and convenience of course) – is product selection.

Whether you are looking to get yourself dressed for a wedding, funeral, or the daily office grind, Black Lapel has a formal offering for you.

On the Black Lapel site you will find the following categories:

Custom (To Your Measurements)

  • Suits
  • Shirts
  • Blazers
  • Black Tie / Tuxedos
  • Pants
  • Vests
  • Outerwear

Accessories (Related To Dress Wear)

  • Shoes
  • Ties
  • Pocket Squares
  • Cufflinks / Tie Bars
  • Bags

So, whether you are looking for a full suit, blazer to work with an existing pair of trousers, or simply some accent pieces (i.e. pocket square or tie bar), you can find some great picks in their store.

Given that our review is focused on just their suits (and likely the reason you are reading this in the first place), let’s take a deeper dive here:

Black Lapel Suit Selection Review

At the time of initial publication (Dec. 2018), Black Lapel offers 72 different types of suits at varying colors, occasions, patterns, seasons, fabrics, and prices.

While we recommend checking out their suit section to get more specific look at what they offer, we also wanted to put their catalog in a more structured approach.

Here’s a look at all their suits in tabular format:

As you can see, their wide offering can work with just about any man’s requirement.

Whether you are looking for summer or spring suit with a higher S Number (finer spun wool), or one with a pattern, you should have no problem finding the perfect suit for you…

The point is this:

When compared to most retailers where you must go between countless brands of varying degrees of quality, cuts, etc. Black Lapel has hands down a better selection than most.

Measuring For Your New Black Lapel Suit

Getting the right measurements for a new suit is one of the most important parts of the process.

It’s one of those things at if you are off, it results in an ill-fitting garment that you will never want to wear.

But check this out:

The measurement process is also one of the best features about Black Lapel.

The requirements to get started are simple:

  • Fabric measuring tape
  • About 15 minutes of your time
  • Spouse, significant other, or really trusted friend

Before starting, you are going to want to create an account.

While the entire measurement process takes about 15 minutes, should anything come up, all your info will be saved so you can pick right up where you left off.

Once your account has been created you will be served up with a few basic questions, including key measurements:

“Hi Shawn, the doctor is ready to see you…”

This can be the most nerve-wracking words that we hear when sitting in a waiting room full of people…

…especially if you are dealing with an embarrassing issue like hair loss, acne, or gasp…

…erectile dysfunction.

What is up with us guys?

Why can’t we simply just go in there, talk to the doctor straight, and say that we have a problem?

I get it…

No one is likely going to be excited to have a conversation with their doctor saying they are having a difficult time having sex with their partner.

For many, it’s embarrassing.

Or perhaps they are just extremely self-conscious about it…

…and if the doctor is a woman, well shit, might as well just forget about discussing it at all…

This is a problem.

And it’s a problem that you shouldn’t just sweep under the rug…

…and no, I am not just talking about erectile dysfunction

This entails all parts of our general wellbeing including hair loss, wrinkling, acne, cold sores, heart health, restless night sleeps, and more.

Enter hims.

Whether you turned on the TV in the past few months or perhaps saw an ad sprawled across a subway, chances are that you have heard of hims.

If not, here’s a brief little intro:

hims is a men’s wellness brand dedicated to empowering men to be the best version of themselves through proactivity around health and preventative self-care. (source)

Hims was founded in 2017 by a couple of guys (Andrew Dudum and Jack Abraham) in San Francisco, CA.

As stated clearly on their purpose page by Andrew Dudum, their goal is to help men think about their health, and more importantly, take action on their health.

Whether you are dealing with issues around hair loss, erectile dysfunction, skin care, or just your general overall health, hims is likely going to have a product that is geared specifically for you.

Here’s the deal:

With many of the problems that men deal with (i.e. hair loss, ED, etc.), in order to actually solve or deal with any of these problems, you will need to get a prescription filled…

…and this is the very problem that hims solves.

Let’s take a deep dive into hims, what they offer, and if you should check them out:

Our Review Of hims

Disclosure:  First up, with hims, many of the products that you purchase through their site are going to require a prescription.  Therefore, as a note of total transparency, we couldn’t test drive half of their offering due to lack of medical qualification.

So first up, the hims experience.

Heading over to the hims website, you have everything in a clean, clear, and non-medical jargon way – making it super easy to get what you want and get on with your day:

As you can see from the nav menu – it’s bucketed into 5 sections:

  • Hair
  • Sex
  • Skin
  • Vitals
  • Mouth

So, pick the right one for you and move on with your order.

For our example we will take a look at their ‘Sex’ section – basically erectile dysfunction treatment:

With a bit of tongue-in-cheek writing and imagery, it’s pretty clear what they are trying to help you out with here!

Throughout this page (and every other treatment page we reviewed), they not only clearly tell you the active ingredient that you will be receiving – in this case it’s Sildenafil (same ingredient in Viagra) – but you can also learn about common risk factors, causes of ED, and many other interesting facts around the topic.

Checking out is incredibly easy and affordable (more on this in a minute):

Review an itemized list of the bill:

Fill out your shipping and billing info.

Then complete a medical review to make sure that you aren’t abusing the system or trying to get medications that you don’t qualify for.

Assuming you are fully qualified after the review from physicians, the products will be shipped semi-discretely to your door on a recurring basis, so you don’t have to worry about waiting in line at the pharmacy to refill a prescription.

Online Prescription Fulfillment Is A Thing

When taking medical information online, people have a right to ask a few questions about the safety and security of the information that is being processed…

While we didn’t qualify for any of the prescription required products through their site – this is what we learned from both the hims team and on the website itself:

All the doctors that work with hims are licensed, board certified, and located in the U.S. (source).  In fact, you can find if their prescription required products (hair loss, skin care, ED) are available in your state by visiting the list here.

Unfortunately, if you do have an existing prescription for any of the options that hims does offer, you won’t be able to transfer it over.  Instead, you will need to go through their medical review.

Lastly, hims is certified by LegitScript as an approved internet pharmacy.

Beyond the questions around prescriptions, all the information collected by hims is 100% private and confidential and are fully HIPAA compliant (source).

Is hims safe?

With a medical advisory team from Stanford, Harvard, and Columbia, they appear to check all the boxes when it comes to expertise.

In addition to the medical advisors, many of the products that hims sells have been proven in the marketplace for years.

For instance, one of their over-the-counter hair loss product is simply minoxidil, the key active ingredient found in Rogaine – which has been approved by the FDA.

And also Finasteride, the active ingredient found in Propecia – a prescription required hair loss pill that was introduced in the 90s (source).

So, you don’t have feel like you are a guinea pig testing this stuff for the first time ever or are paying for snake oil – this stuff is proven to work.

Opening Our First hims Package

One facet of hims that we are really digging is their packaging.

Evoking that modern Silicon Valley-esq design flare – their product packaging is on point.

First up, the box you receive in the mail:

…and a side view:

As you can see the packaging is semi-discrete with a simple hims logo on the side of the box.

But where the real beauty of the package shines is when you open up the box…

…inside the top lid you see a nice message of encouragement:

Along with the products you ordered – all organized in their own unique slot:

We loved that the packaging was clean and not filled with too much clutter selling us on countless other products that we have absolutely no interest in – kudos to you hims!

As you might have guessed, based on the list of products in the package above, we received the Complete Hair Kit – which includes the following:

  • DHT Blocking Shampoo
  • Minoxidil Drops
  • Hair Growth Vitamin Supplement
  • Finasteride Pills (prescription required)

Let’s take a look at each…

First, the DHT Blocking Shampoo:

Like the exterior packaging, the DHT Blocking Shampoo bottle by hims is incredibly minimalist with just a logo and some key packaging details on the front:

Followed by a short explanation on why the shampoo is important along with the ingredients found within:

The shampoo itself had an invigorating scent and one that shouldn’t really be a turnoff for most men.

Next up, the minoxidil:

As we mentioned earlier, this is the same active ingredient found in Rogaine Extra Strength and has been proven to regrow hair.

So, if you are experiencing male pattern baldness, regular (twice daily) application of this solution to the desired area may help to regrow your hair.

In case you forget at all, hims does also provide clear and easy to understand instructions on the back of the packaging:

The bottle itself comes with a marked measurement (1.0 ml) to assist you with each application.

Note: We did not elect to complete the medical review for the next couple of products.  Therefore, hims sent us just empty bottles to share with our readers on what you can expect.

One thing that we really love about the hims Complete Hair Loss Kit is that it covers all the bases in order to help regrow hair…

…and that includes the addition of a daily multivitamin:

With 30 gummies (way better than capsules you need to swallow), they will cover you for the month of your subscription.

But given that this kit is geared towards hair loss, their vitamins have been smartly stacked to help ensure not only healthy hair, but nails and skin too!

A look on the side of the bottle you will see that the key vitamin for hair growth, Biotin, has been heavily loaded into each one of the gummies – which includes 833.5% of your daily value.

That’s insane!!

So, if you aren’t getting enough Biotin pre-hims, you definitely will be now.

Lastly, the pills:

Finasteride to be exact.

The same active ingredient found in Propecia, Finasteride has been talked about countless time as the ‘one thing’ to help stave off male pattern baldness in countless forums and subreddits.

Finasteride was originally made in 1992 to block DHT which would then help to reduce an enlarged prostate.

However, as a side effect of blocking the DHT, it consequently helped to stop hair loss (just like the DHT blocking shampoo that hims also included in this kit).

Furthermore, finasteride has been shown to help “increase the volume and health of your hair in 3 to 6 months.”

Is hims Worth The Money?

One of the tricky parts about hims is determining if it’s worth it.

The fact that you can simply place an order and go through a medical review from the comfort of your pajamas is unmatched.

Not to mention the fact that you dodge that whole awkward conversation at the doctor’s office as well – especially if you plan on ordering a product that requires a prescription (i.e. erectile dysfunction, hair loss, acne, etc.) – there is no real amount of money you can put on that.

But truth be told, when comparing the price of the hims minoxidil and DHT blocking shampoo to that of comparable over-the-counter offering at a local drug store, we think hims is rightly priced.

So, you won’t feel like you are getting ripped off when you place an order.

Final Thoughts On hims

Overall, we really love hims for both its product offerings and what it stands for.

For too long men have done a really poor job maintaining themselves.

With hims mission to go out and change this notion, it’s a noble cause, and one we hope to help them champion.

So, seriously guys, if you are feeling that you need to do a bit of self-improvement, head over to hims and check them out today.

There’s no awkward waiting room, no tough questions, just a simple and easy experience that will help you to feel more confident in yourself.
