I am a beauty lover but that’s probably pretty easy to figure out. . I’m constantly feeding my obsession by trying new beauty products so why not share my trials and errors with other people. I love drugstore and high end products and have tried many. I really want to be more involved in the beauty community and share my love of makeup, skincare, and haircare.
I’m on of those really strange people who loves to pack. It makes me even more excited to travel. If I could pack a week in advance, I would. But, my boyfriend probably wouldn’t like my suitcase on the floor of our bedroom for a week. So, when I got a new travel makeup bag for Christmas (shoutout to my friend Beth), I was so excited to pack my makeup for my next trip.
I have gotten pretty decent at packing and I thought I would show you what are my go-to’s, how I pack, and my new fantastic makeup bag.
I always pack products that I know are going to work for me. I think it would be silly to pack brand new products that I don’t know how they are going to perform. Also, if I know I’m going to get a little bit of sun, I’ll pack products that I think will match me when I have a little bit of colour in my skin.
I’m going to Miami this month and for a base skin product the It Cosmetics CC Cream is the best choice. It has an SPF 50 so it will be great to wear during the sunny Miami days. It has great coverage, a natural finish, and is a touch too dark for me.
Instead of bringing a bronzer and a contour product I’m bringing the Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer. It has a neutral undertone so it contours a bit and adds warmth to my skin tone. It works on me when I’m pale and when I’m tanned.
I’m bringing two blush minis from Tarte Cosmetics. One is a coral and one is a nude. I really only wear these two colour tones and these ones are great. The coral is Magic and the nude is Exposed.
I find eyeshadow the trickiest to pick. For this trip I’m going to bring the Huda Beauty Warm Brown Obsessions palette. I can do so many looks with this. I can also use my bronzer for a nice crease colour and my highlight for a nice lid colour. I find travelling is all about multi use products! The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer is a great highlight for me at all skin tones. It’s a nice colour and is a great highlight.
I will always bring the same mascara with me travelling and that is my trusty Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof formula. It’ll be great in the hot, humid Florida Weather.
For lip products, I always bring something with SPF when I’m going somewhere sunny. My lips always burn when I don’t use SPF on them and it’s so uncomfortable. My favourite SPF 30 lip balm is the Sun Bum Lip Balm. I also like the Revlon Kiss Lip Balm because it has SPF 15 and a nice tint.
For lip colours I, again, bring ones that I know work for me. I also think about where I’m going and think about what makeup looks I want to do. So, I’ll bring my favourites. This trip I’m bringing the Stila Liquid Lipstick in Aria and Carmello. I’m also bringing Kylie Cosmetics Kristen.
The real star of this post is my new makeup bag. This is the Lululemon Women’s Everywhere Kit in Misty Pink. It has a nice wire frame so it stays open when you want it to. It has a removable clear pouch that you can keep your liquids in. You are able to wipe out the inside. As you can see, you can also put your makeup brushes securely in the bag. I would recommend this bag to anyone and everyone who travels or even just lives out of a makeup bag.
What are you travel makeup hacks? What are your go-to products when travelling?
I have to say, I’m one of those people who loves Valentines Day. I love celebrating and being with the person I love. I also love doing holiday makeup looks. Themed makeup looks are just so fun to do! This Valentine’s Day I’m spending the day doing some self love and then going to a romantic dinner with my boyfriend and eating my weight in carbs.
Also this year, I thought I would do 3 different makeup looks to celebrate the day. I did a soft and pretty look, a classic look, and a bold look.

What makeup look are you going to rock for Valentine’s Day?
I get questions all the time about the skincare products I use, what skincare products are the best, and about my routine. Skincare is so important, people! I don’t think some people understand that your makeup can only look so good if you don’t take care of you skin. You can spend all the money in the world on the best makeup products but, if you don’t take care of your skin, the makeup won’t look it’s best.
Since my skin changes with the seasons, it’s only right that so does my skincare. So, today i’ll be talking all about my winter nighttime skincare routine.
For me, I spend the most time on my skincare at night. Your skin repairs itself at night from all the crap we do to it during the day so I use the most rich and hydrating products at night. Not going to lie, most nights when i’m going to bed I look like an oil slick and I love it.
I’m going to go in the order of how I apply the products. For those of you who don’t know I have Dry Skin.
To remove my makeup lately I have been using the Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse Balm. This removes makeup so nicely and quickly. It also doesn’t strip my skin of it’s natural oils. You rub this into your face dry and it becomes emollient. It has a really pleasant smell, too. Just in case the cleansing balm didn’t get everything, I go over my face again with the Simple Micellar Water. This is my favourite cleansing water because it’s so gentle and gets the job done!
Newest to my skincare team is the Lise Watier La Creme Sublime Yeux. I was recommended this at Shoppers Drug Mart. I have very dry under eyes and this is a very thick, luxurious-feeling cream. It hydrates amazingly but doesn’t feel super heavy. It sinks into the skin quite quickly too.
Most people use a toner on their skin but I’m more of a fan of face mists. They feel more luxurious to me and make me enjoy my skincare routine more. As you can see, I really enjoy the Pixi Glow Mist. It adds a layer of hydration to my skin before I go in with serums and moisturizers.
For a serum I’ve been obsessed with The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid for months. Hyaluronic Acid attracts water to the skin so it is a great hydrator. I love this product so much and would recommend it to anyone!
My night cream for the last couple months has been the Origins Drink-Up Intensive Overnight Mask. It’s such a nice, thick, and moisturizing cream. When I use this, I wake up in the morning and can still feel like hydration on my skin. My skin feels so much smoother when I use this.
If I’m feeling particularly dry, I will mix an oil in with my night cream. I love face oils so much so I have a few. But, my go to has been the Farsali Rose Gold Elixir. This oil contains real 24K gold. It adds that intense hydration that my skin needs sometimes.
I know I’m a little high maintenance with my skincare but I can’t tell you how much my skin changed when I started to take care of it. It was like night and day. Skincare is so so so important! If you’re interested, I can do a post on my daytime skincare routine. It’s a little less intense.
What are you favourite products for your nighttime skincare routine?
Brows are everything. If you disagree, you have never filled in your eyebrows and looked at yourself in the mirror. Filling in your eyebrows completely changed the game for me. They frame your face in a way that takes you to another level. When I find a new and different brow product, I want to try it. I want to see if something new is going to step up my brow game.
If you want to know what I think of the new Maybelline Tattoo Studio Brow Gel, keep on reading!
This is a waterproof brow gel that is meant to add definition and last for days. This fills in brows, is smudge-proof, is long-lasting, and creates the look of fuller brows.
It comes with an applicator like a lipgloss and you apply it to your brows with the applicator, then use the spoolie to blend the product.
I don’t find the applicator all that easy to work with. It’s fine if you already have super thick brows and just want a little more definition but on me, it just made a bit of a mess. The way I like to use this product is with an angled brow brush.
It applies really nicely with a brush and does give great definition. The colour is also perfect for my brows. I found it quite easy to apply when using a brush. It looked quite natural. I got the colour Medium Brown.
Unfortunately, I didn’t quite get the claim of this being super long lasting or waterproof. No, it didn’t transfer or smudge but came off super easier with a makeup wipe.
Overall, I really like the look this gives my brows. But, will I be switching to using only this and giving up on my pencils? Probably not. Just because I have to have this product and then use a brush to go along with it.
Let me say, first of all, the shade range of this foundation is absolute crap. Second of all, the shade I picked for myself is wrong. It’s too dark for me and I know. But, I was so freaking excited to try this foundation because of the fact that it’s TARTE SHAPE TAPE FOUNDATION. The most amazing concealer that has ever blessed us, now has a foundation to go along with it.
I feel like most of what I’ve done lately is review foundations. But, I love the heck out of foundations and I love trying to find the perfect foundation for my skin.
As soon as this foundation was announced, I knew I needed it. They released two different formulas. One is a Matte formula and one is a Hydrating formula. I, having dry skin, chose the Hydrating formula.
Left: Tarte Shape Tape Hydrating Foundation. Right: Nadda.
This is a luminous-finish gel foundation with the same full-coverage as the iconic Shape Tape Concealer. This foundation contains collagen and hyaluronic acid which hydrates the skins, plumps the skin, and refines pores. This foundation is applied with the same giant Doe-Foot applicator as the Shape Tape Concealer. This is a 12-hour wear foundation. You can build up the coverage by doing more swipes of the foundation.
For best use, you are supposed to use this with the Tarte Cosmetics Shaper Sponge (LOL). But, I use my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge.
I wouldn’t say this foundation has full coverage. I would say more like medium coverage. So, if you are looking for a full-coverage foundation this isn’t for you. I had to build it up to get the coverage I wanted and I don’t have much to cover on my skin. I had to dip it quite a few times into the container to get a full coverage.
What I’m looking for in a foundation is one that doesn’t dry my skin out and make me look older than I am. Other foundations that I have used, emphasizes the fine lines on my face and the Tarte Shape Tape Hydrating Foundation doesn’t do that at all. It makes me feel and look hydrated. It looked quite natural on my skin which I loved. It looks like skin on my skin!
All of this being said, I cannot skim over the fact that the shade range of this foundation is laughable. They have 15 shades and 13 of them are for light skin. A reputable brand like Tarte Cosmetics needs to be more inclusive with it’s shades from the get go.
Have you tried this foundation? What did you think? #SHAPETAPENATION
Is it way too basic of me to say, how is January already gone? Well, even if it it, I can’t believe were already more than a month into 2018. As I get older, time seems to go faster and faster and that’s why my motto is ‘Enjoy all the makeup’. It’s not actually but I made it one of my New Years resolutions to get more invested in my blog and to really enjoy it. So far, I’m loving it!
For today, I’m gonna be talking all about the products I have been obsessed with this past month.
The Dior Airflash Foundation is so expensive it hurts me a little bit. But, I can’t say enough good things about this foundation. It gives me such great coverage but looks like nothing on my skin. It lasts a decent amount of time and never looks dry or cakey on my skin. I have a full review on it here.
For eyeshadow palettes, I have been obsessed with two this month. First off is the Kylie Cosmetics Nice Palette. This palette was pretty hyped for about 4 days and then everyone seemed to forget about it. I did no such thing. I have been using this sucker like crazy. The mattes are absolutely incredible in this palette. The only thing I wish is that there was a metallic lid colour that was champagne. If it had that, it would be my perfect palette. I can create so many looks with this. Unfortunately this is sold out (huge sad face).
Next is the Huda Beauty Warm Brown Obsessions palette. Like the Kylie palette, the mattes are amazing. I can create a day time look with this palette or a smokey night time look. This is a warm eyeshadow lovers dream palette. I have a full review on this palette here.
I don’t think I’ve ever featured these lashes on my blog but these have become my favourite. Another from Huda Beauty are the Easy Lash in Camille. They are kind of like a 3/4 lash in that, they don’t go all the way to the corner of your inner eye. They have an amazing eye opening effect and add a bit of drama to any look.
Jumping over to skincare for a quick second, I have to give a major dry skin shout out to the Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask. I have been using this as a night cream for the past month and my skin feels so amazing and plump when I wake up. I feel instant relief when I use this cream. The directions for this ‘mask’ actually say to leave it on overnight. I can’t get enough of this stuff!
Back to makeup. If you have noticed my highlight recently on Instagram (@thinkingofmakeup), it has been the Sleek Cosmetics Soltice Highlighting Palette. But, I really only use the shade in the bottom right corner. It looks like a peachy shade and it gives my skin the most amazing highlight. It makes my skin look almost wet, which I’m pretty into right now. I always thought this product was all hype but I was so wrong. I’m so in love with this highlight.
What products have you been loving this past month? Leave them below!
It’s hard to create an amazing painting without tools and it’s near impossible to create beautifully artistry on your face without brushes and beauty tools. I don’t have a massive collection of brushes but I have put together a few that I would be absolutely lost without.
Todays post is all about my favourite brushes that I own. As with anything, the prices range from high end to drugstore.
Let’s start with face tools.
I love a good multi use brush. They are amazing for powder, bronzer, blush, and more! They are also amazing for travel. You can take one brush and do it all. My go-to’s are actually all from the drugstore! My number one is the Real Techniques Multi Task Brush. It’s super soft and amazing at blending. Next up is the Elf Cosmetics Beautifully Precise Airbrush Blender brush. This brush is a little more dense and it’s amazing at blending out bronzer and blush. Lastly and least expensive is the Wet n Wild Powder Brush. This brush is really really soft and amazing. And, it’s only $3-5.
My favourite brush for highlighting is the Morphe M501. It applies the highlight perfectly but not too heavy. It also doesn’t leave a line of highlight on your face. My go-to contour brush is the Morphe M530. It carves the cheekbones out so nicely but doesn’t leave a harsh line. You are able to blend out the contour no problem.
My all time favourite Makeup Sponge (even more than the original Beauty Blender) is the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. It blends out foundation and concealer like an absolute dream. I also use it for baking my concealer and absolutely love it. I do use it damp and it’s much better than using it dry.
All of my favourite eye brushes (except one) are from Sigma Brushes. Sigma Brushes can be a little hard to find but are a must for me! My favourite fluffy blending brush is the Sigma E40. It diffuses a crease colour so amazingly.
To apply crease colour is the ever so famous Mac Cosmetics 217 brush. It’s amazing for precisely applying crease colour and then lightly blending it out. I also use this to apply lid colour sometimes.
To always apply lid colour I use the Sigma E20. It packs on colour like nothing else. I love wetting this brush with some Fix + and the applying a metallic shade.
The best pencil brush I’ve ever used is the Sigma E30. I use this to apply inner corner highlight and smudge colour underneath my lash line. It’s amazing for this!
What are your must-have brushes? Leave me some recommendations below!
Another month, another bunch of products I have used up. I don’t know what is it but I have been using up products like nobodies business. I partially think it’s because I have nothing better to do in the winter than stay inside and play with makeup and skincare.
If you don’t know what ‘empties’ posts are, I show you and talk about products that I’ve used up recently. I’ll give a quick review and then let you know if I’d repurchase it.
Let’s begin with my number one love which is Batiste Dry Shampoo. I’ve discovered the lotus scent is the absolutely best and I’ll always continue to repurchase this.
A cult favaourite, a favourite of mine, is the L’Oreal Elnett hairspray. If you want your hair to stay in place but not be super crunchy, you’ll love this.
I loved the Garnier Micellar water. It did a great job at removing my makeup and was super gentle. It’s as good as my Simple Cleansing Water so, I’ll just go with whatever’s on sale!
The Vaseline Body Butter is such an amazing body butter for the price. The Cocoa scent is so nice and warm but light. It keeps me moisturized for a long time.
The Origins Night A Mins has been my go to night cream for such a long time. I love it so much. It smells so nice and citrusy and keeps my skin hydrated all night long. I’m currently using something else but I’ll definitely get this again.
My beloved Tarte Shape Tape Concealer ran out and I got so sad until I realized I had a backup. This is the most amazing, high coverage concealer you’ll ever use. Don’t sleep on this concealer!
The Ordinary Caffeine Solution is one of those products that I wasn’t sure was working until it ran out. It makes me look more awake and makes my eyes look less puffy. I’ll get this again as soon as it’s back in stock.
The Urban Decay Naked Weightless Concealer is a good concealer. It’s a little more hydrating that the Tarte Shape Tape but less coverage. I don’t see myself repurchasing this when I have the Tarte one.
While I was using the Pixi Natural Brow Duo, I really enjoyed it. But, then I went to the Anastasia Brow Definer and I love that so much more. Nothing wrong with the Pixi one, just not my favourite.
The Not So Good
Unfortunately the Juice Beauty Hydrating Mist burned the crap out of my eyes. I have really sensitive eyes and only a few mists don’t burn my eyes. I really wanted to like this but I just can’t.
When I use a face mask I want to notice a difference and I just didn’t with the Yes To Grapefruit Correct and Repair Peel. It burned my skin a little bit but I didn’t notice anything different with my skin.
What products have you used up recently? Leave it below!
I’m not going to lie, I have never tried the old version of this foundation and had no idea they stopped making it. Anyways, I’m always down to try a new (and improved?) drugstore foundation. Since I never tried the original version of this foundation I have nothing to compare it to, other than the dozens of other foundations I have tried. I was super excited to try this out and hopefully find another drugstore foundation gem!
Today, we’ll be talking all about a new full-coverage foundation from Maybelline.
This, as taken from the Maybelline website is a full-coverage 24 hour wear foundation that won’t fade throughout the day. This product is lightweight, yet delivers lots of coverage and glides onto the skin seamlessly. It is oil-free and dermatologist tested.
The packaging of this foundation is really nice. It comes in a nice glass bottle and with a pump! Who doesn’t love a foundation with a pump.
When I applied this foundation for the first time, my initial thought was ‘they were not kidding with full coverage’. This is one of the most full coverage drugstore foundations I have ever tried. I applied this foundation with my real techniques beauty sponge and it applied beautifully. It blended with hardly any work at all! I use less than a pump of this foundation to get the perfect amount of coverage.
As you can tell from the photo below, half of my face has foundation and half is bare.
I did set this foundation with a powder and it lasted about 8 hours without fading on me. I found it had a matte finish on me but it’s not a flat matte by any means. Having dry skin I did have to use a hydrating foundation underneath which made the foundation much more comfortable.
This colour doesn’t match me perfectly but I think with concealer and powder it blends quite nicely. My only con about this foundation is that it does oxidize on my skin. I would suggest going lighter if you can.
Does this foundation last for 24 hours? Well, I’m not about to wear a foundation for 24 hours but I think it would still look decent after 24 hours.
Have you tried out this foundation? What do you think?
I love a good face primer as much as the next beauty lover but I always found that I was doing it as a step because I thought I had to. The primers I have used in the past didn’t do anything magical for my makeup so I had given up on primers. But, with all of these amazing bloggers and youtubers I follow being so crazy about primers, I figured I should give it another go.
Today, I’ll be talking about face primers and the ones I plan on putting to the test.
Face primers may seem like an extra step in your makeup routine but they can completely transform your makeup game. You cam get primers to illuminate your skin, mattify your skin, blur pores, hydrate your skin, and there are also colour correcting primers. The most important thing is to get a primer that will work for your skin. Do your research!
Primers can be purchased at any price range but unfortunately, the drugstore doesn’t have a ton of options for face primers. If you want the most choice and most options, high end is where you’ll have the most luck.
For pore blurring I chose the ever-famous Benefit Porefessional. This primer is meant to smooth the skin and blur all of your pores. It can be worn under makeup or alone to smooth skin. This primer is also a bit mattifying. It is $42 (CAD).
I had heard so many great things about the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water that I had to give it a try. I love a good face mist and if it’s made to hydrate and prep my skin for makeup, I’m totally on board. This primer water is meant to hydrate, prep, and refresh the skin. It can be worn under makeup or refresh the skin throughout the day. It is $39 (CAD)
Since I love the skincare brand The Ordinary so much I wanted to try one of their primers so I got the High-Spreadability Fluid Primer. This is meant to be a serum-like primer and help with the spreadability of your foundation. This also hydrates and helps with a natural, dewy makeup look. It is $7.90 (CAD).
I was looking on the Sephora website (as I do daily) for a new primer and came across the Huda Beauty The Complexion Perfection Pre Makeup Base Primer. I have been impressed with everything I have tried from Huda Beauty and thought this would be great. This primer creates a smooth, moisturized base while gripping onto makeup to help it last through the day. It is $45 (CAD).
I’ll plan to update you all hopefully in future blog posts with the results and how I like each of the primers!
What is your favourite primer? I need my holy grail! Leave it below!
