As seen in Los Angeles.. Keep your eye out for these clean beauty and wellness trends in 2019!

Ingestibles

When it comes to beauty...add aging, weather and hormones... there sometimes seems like there are no easy solutions. But enter ingestibles, elixirs and supplements.... they just might be changing that. Simply swallowing a pill or mixing a nutritious powder into your drink can deliver major results, from longer, thicker hair to stronger nails to prettier, smoother skin. Tocos, short for tocotrienols, is a fat-soluble relative of Vitamin E that's commonly found in certain oils, rice, wheat, barley, rye, and oats, for example, is sought because of its hydrating property to the skin and connective tissue. (Find that in our Moodbeli Blue Green Protein powder and mix some in your morning smoothie).

CBD

Made from the cannabis plant, CBD oil has begun popping up in numerous beauty products in the last few years, in items ranging from mascaras to shampoos. Consumers have been shopping the ingredient due to its ability to reduce redness and skin irritation. CBD oil contains 21 known amino acids, which build up collagen and elastin, and are essential to strengthening hair. It’s also rich in vitamins A, C, and E. Vitamin A keeps skin firm and healthy, vitamin C stimulates collagen production, and vitamin E is anti-aging and hydrating. The most exciting thing, I think that CBD offers is through the topical CBD products that act as a great delivery method if you’re looking to release localized tension / ease pain. We'll be looking to add some lines to capture this niche ... so stay tuned as we blissfully sample away to find you the best.

Green

Going green certainly isn’t a new trend, but brands are taking it to the next level by eschewing traditional (and often environmentally damaging) containers. Complimenting Sappho's cardboard sleeve packaging, Elate is taking a strong stance in the industry. The brand also uses cardboard sleeve packaging for its make-up, but the packages are also plantable: wildflowers will bless your garden! And if you do want a container for long term use, Elate has beautiful bamboo containers which will stand the test of time and are fully customizable! BareMeBeauty offers something new the sheet mask sphere; instead of a single use mask, these fabric dry sheet masks are re-usable up to 3 times - eliminating at least 2 times of the traditional packaging!

Minimalist
Started with Herbivore Botanicals yet still a trend. Spotlight: Cardea Auset, which intentionally uses simplistic branding has exploded in popularity, particularly with the millennial consumer. This version of stylized packaging allows consumers to visualize the products sitting in any bathroom or being given as the perfect gift. Clear glass with minimal text lets Cardea Auset's pretty formulas, like their Sea Mineral Soak with pastel petals and salts, do all the talking. So pretty, right? Even seasoned brands like Graydon are opting to release new items in clear glass to show off the beautiful botanicals contained within - check our their Fullmoon Serum.

Raising the Bar

Yep, the Beauty Industry typically gets a bad rap for being wasteful and excessive, however, we are making a dent in our environmental impact by eliminating some packaging altogether. Bring back the Bar might be the motto for 2019! Bars of soap have had a strong showing for years, as people chose them over body wash... and now we have shampoo and conditioner bars! Brands like Unwrapped Life are showing consumers that a bar can be just as good for your hair - and considering that they can last up to 80 washes, this switch will also be good for your pocketbook!

It’s 2019 and ethical consumerism is all the buzz this year! Consumers like you and me are doing our research, and demanding products that deliver results while doing good for the world. So it’s no surprise that veganism is boomin! When we hear the word vegan, we usually think of diet... but it can be much more than that. For many, becoming vegan means no longer consuming, purchasing, or using any products that contain animal derivatives, including skincare and beauty products. Keep reading to learn more and to find out which 8 vegan brands we are loving in 2019!

So, what does vegan really mean when we talk about skincare and beauty products?

Vegan products are those that are free from any animal derivatives or by products.

What common ingredients are non-vegan?

Whether you are looking for vegan products or not, we believe it is important to know what you are purchasing and putting on your body! Honey, beeswax, lactic acid derived from milk, collagen derived from fish, gelatin, lanolin, stearic acid are all common ingredients to look out for if you are trying to avoid animal products.

What are the benefits of using Vegan products?

Some of our fav vegan brands choose ingredients that deliver effective results, packed full of plant-derived vitamins and nutrients. Vegan products are formulated without impacting the life of any animals. Our advice when it comes to purchasing anything is always to do your research, be aware, and stay true to you!

Toner is that one skin care step that is so underrated, with many people thinking it’s unnecessary or a waste of money.

If you’re using a harsh, conventional brand toner filled with drying ingredients then you may just be right, but if you have yet to experience the benefits of an all natural, antioxidant rich toner then you are seriously missing out!

In this article we’ll share a few top benefits toners provide for the skin, as well as multipurpose ways you can use them.

By the end of this article they may just become your new favourite beauty product!

How can a toner really benefit my skin?

Toners are generally known for picking up any excess dirt your cleanser may have missed, as well as for helping to balance the pH levels, which is important for healthy, balanced skin, but the benefits extend far beyond this!

Toners help to add extra hydration to the skin, and if you’re using one packed in superstar ingredients, it’s a great way to add some extra antioxidants into your routine by infusing your skin with nutrients.

Toners help to tighten and refine the pores, add a refreshing burst of moisture, improve the texture of the skin and even reduce and prevent acne breakouts by balancing sebum levels.

Are toners just the second step in my skin care routine?

The simple answer here is no!

While toners are important as the second step to help properly cleanse the skin and perfectly prep it for your follow up products, the truth is that there are a multitude of other ways you can reap the benefits from your toner.

Here are just three awesome ways you can get the most out of your toner:

  • Spritz some over your makeup to help set it for the day

  • Keep it in your handbag and treat your skin to a refreshing mist whenever your skin needs it at anytime of the day or night

  • Prevent over-cleansing by using a toner to clean your skin in the morning. Simply spritz a cotton pad until saturated and wipe your face clean before following up with your oils or lotions.

Just two of our favourite natural toners...

If your skin (and senses!) are in need of a boost then you can’t go wrong with this beautiful Neroli Toner from Apoterra! Its intoxicating floral scent of immortelle blooms, orange blossom and rock rose water help lift the spirits and calm the nerves.

This toner is packed with antioxidants and skin brightening vitamin C! These ingredients work together to give your skin an anti-aging boost while fighting off blemishes, reducing inflammation and helping to promote a radiant glow.

The Rice Plant & Rosemary Skin Tonic by Pai Skincare is another favourite of ours. Pai specializes in sensitive skin and have created an amazing tonic for anyone with oil, combination and/or sensitive skin.

Being high in vitamins and amino-acids means this tonic helps restore your pH levels while decongesting problem skin and leaving you hydrated.

Of course these are just two of our favourite natural toners, but you can view the entire range here!

Ok, we know it’s the most cliché saying in the month of December, but where did this year go? We can’t believe the holidays are here! It’s time for sweater weather, gift giving, and starting to mentally prepare for another bright, and shiny New Year just around the corner.

First and foremost, we are both so grateful to have had the opportunity to continue to build the Soap on Skin community in 2018. We’ve had almost 1,000 new friends follow along with us as we discover, discuss, and learn more about the importance of green beauty and wellness. We can’t wait to see what 2019 has in store, and connect with all the beautiful people out there we have yet to meet. (PS, if you’re new to the #SOSFam, click here to learn a little bit more about who we are!)

With that said, we know there’s a lot going on this time of year. Maybe you’re on the hunt for a last minute gift idea, passing along a wish list, or you just want to treat yourself (mental note: you deserve it!). Whatever it is, we thought it’s the perfect opportunity to do a 2018 round up. A list of our tried and true products from the year, that will *definitely* be kept on rotation for 2019…

FOR THE FACE

Make-up Removing Cleansing Oil by Wildcraft

This is an absolute must-have for those who hate the makeup removal process. The calming honey and chamomile solution soothes your face as you rub gently to remove grime and makeup at the end of a long day. We both love, love, love this.

Invigorating + Balancing Toner by Province Apothecary

There’s nothing more refreshing than a good face mist. We love everything Province Apothecary, and new reformulated toner is great for all skin types. It also does not disappoint in the scent department.

Face Food Mineral Mist by Graydon

If you tend to feel sensitive to scent - this is a great option. Mineral rich, with ingredients like Zinc and Silver to aid in breakout causing bacteria; it’s an interesting concept for a toner. Also, nice for setting makeup!

The Face Serum by Wildcraft

After having the opportunity to meet some of the team behind Wildcraft at the Truth Beauty Talk earlier this year, it’s clear how much love and genuine care is put into each product. This serum is rich in nutrients, glides beautifully onto the skin, and absorbs quickly - no greasy residue!

Full Moon Serum by Graydon

Formulated to “correct + protect”, this serum’s key ingredients include blue tansy (an anti-pollution complex), hylaronic acid, and Vitamin C among others to protect your skin from pollutants, and keep inflammation at bay.

*Honourable Mention: Infloressence Clarifying Gel Mask by Altilis Beauty

Currently sold out at TBC, this mask is a game changer. Leave this on overnight as a spot treatment, or as an overnight mask to see quick results. While we both have different skin issues, with a couple of overnight uses, we saw a dramatic difference in our skin. From flattening a new pimple out, to healing acne scarring and texture – this is an absolute must try.

FOR THE BOD

The Takesumi Detox Deodorant

With a base of bamboo and activated charcoal, this unique deodorant works to eliminate scent by using the porous ingredient to draw out odor-causing bacteria, and literally “detox” your underarms. The scent is also so refreshing and unique, totally different to any other deodorant we’ve tried.

Egyptian Magic

A multi-purpose, unisex moisturizer; Egyptian Magic heals chapped lips, dry cuticles, and sunburn. Use it as an eye cream, or to smooth frizzy ends - this is a no brainer stocking stuffer for anyone on your list. Also comes in a super cute mini size for travel!

The Hand Cream by Smith Farms Skincare

Perfect for your night table, this Smith Farms hand cream is filled with vitamins and ingredients like castor oil, which leaves no sticky feeling behind. This is one of the most generous amounts of product we’ve seen in hand cream before, no skimping here!

Citrus Mint Body Wash by Epic Blend

After sampling the travel version of the Epic Blends body wash - we were hooked. Filled with skin soothing ingredients, and herbal extracts for scent - this body wash leaves your skin super nourished and the lovely scents lingers, without being overpowering.

FOR THE GLOW UP

The Multi Stick by ILIA

A blend of Vitamin E + Shea Butter for moisture, there’s nothing like a multi-stick for an effortless wash of colour. Use it on your cheeks for day, or take it monochromatic on eyes, lips and cheeks for a cool evening look.

Living Luminizer by RMS

A staple for every newbie to the green space of beauty.  Warm up with your fingers and apply to the high points of your face. No sticky, greasy, or “glittery” feel - it leaves you with a luminosity that’s hard to find in any highlighter!

Pure Eyeliner by ILIA

This eyeliner actually stays put better than most conventional drug store offerings. With oils like avocado and castor seed included on the ingredient list, ILIA’s eyeliner creates a rich and creamy texture. Gets you the smudged out look, while protecting sensitive and delicate area of the eyes. Yes, please!

Lip Glaze by Clove+Hallow

Like lip gloss but not the sticky feeling? Clove+Hallow’s lip glaze offers a perfect amount of colour, that stays put. Available in 6 shades, from nudes to bright pinks - this is a great every day lip option that won’t dry you out the way a matte lipstick tends to.

THE REST OF IT

TruMarine Collagen by WithinUs Naturals

This is the easiest way to add protein and nutrients to any smoothie, coffee or matcha drink! Collagen production dramatically decreases internally come age 25, so trying out a supplement like this can be super beneficial to your body’s bone, skin, and general health. Don’t let the marine name spook you – it’s tasteless. No fishy lattes here!

Together Eau de Parfum by Pour Le Monde

Scent is definitely one of the hardest things out there to find a natural alternative for. This fragrance from Pour Le Monde leaves you with a beautiful grounded scent – featuring a base of woodsy blends and vanilla, with top notes of citrus and bergamot. Each purchase also supports Gilda’s Club, a cancer support community project.

Lip Treat by Indie Lee

This kind of reminds us of that minty flavoured lip gloss you used to wear in middle school…in the best way possible. Slather on anytime – over makeup, or bare lips to keep hydrated and supple.

Coconut Oil by Conscious Coconut

As we know, coconut oil tends to come in a giant tub – which is nice but tends to be rather inconvenient. The Conscious Coconut comes in a tube, which makes life easier. Holly used this for easy access oil pulling, while Sofia used it for lazy eye makeup removal. *Squeeze* and go.

Radiant skin is something we all lust after, but how would you feel if we told you that gorgeous, glowing skin isn’t actually that far out of your reach?

No, really!

At this time of year it may seem that dewy, glowy skin is especially unattainable…

Dry airy, naughty food and glasses of bubbly at those festive holiday parties, it may seem like all the cards are stacked against you!

The dry air saps moisture out of the skin cells and can leave your skin parched and dull, while too much alcohol and sugary, fatty foods can further strip your skin of moisture and even break down collagen and speed up the signs of aging!

In this article we’ll share a few helpful tips so you can enjoy radiant, beautiful skin no matter how cold it gets, and no matter how many parties you attend.

You deserve Instagram snap worthy skin and after following our tips, you’ll have it!

Sip the right way

If you enjoy a glass of red or a few flutes of bubbly every now and again, then we certainly aren’t going to judge you!

However, too much of the good stuff can very quickly leave your skin looking less than its best, but we understand that you may not want to abstain all season long!

Because alcohol dehydrates the body, and therefore draws moisture out of the skin cells, it’s important that you replenish this lost moisture by sipping on water alongside your drinks.

A tip that we love is to sip one glass of water per drink.

Your skin will thank you and you’ll love us the next morning when you wake up hangover free!

Slow down on the sugar

Okay so before you skip over this one, you may want to hear us out…

We aren’t demanding that you give up your donut addiction altogether, we’re just encouraging you to cut back, not only for your skin, but for your health too.

Sugar is addictive so it’s hard to quit, but too much can actually increase your risk of disease and break down collagen in the skin, a structural protein essential for youthful, plump skin.

There are so many incredible paleo (sugar-free) dessert options out there and once you try it for yourself, you won’t even be able to tell the difference!

Here are some of our favourite paleo treats for the holidays!

Use radiant boosting ingredients

Ditch the conventional products, packed with fillers and diluted with water and finally treat your skin to real, nutrient dense ingredients, formulated without toxins.

Simply search the term “radiance” on our site and our favourite radiance boosting products will pop right up!

Rosehip is a powerful antioxidant that will regenerate your skin and make it glow, baby glow!

Try our Rosehip Bioregenerate Rapid Radiance mask by Pai Skincare, which comes with a muslin cloth for easy application and removal of this luxurious, buttery formula.

Don’t even think about skipping the facial oil, this season, or any other season for that matter, because facial oil is a radiant skin must have!

Our Beauty Oil by RMS is a cult favourite and contains the finest exotic oils and rare herbal extracts, for not only glowing skin, but healthy, balanced skin too!

These simple tips will transform your skin this festive season, because you’re covered from the inside out! Now go on, stop stressing about your skin, and instead, figure out what you’re going to wear to your first do!

What a month we’ve had here at TBC!! Our biggest event of the year, True Beauty Talk, is over!

This is our second time around the True Beauty Talk block! This year we went bigger and covered more. The goal was to further the conversation on clean beauty, while connecting brands and industry experts with press and clean beauty lovers, to educate, discuss, explore and ultimately promote a movement towards better beauty. If you weren’t able to make it here’s a lil recap and rundown of the best day!

Guests, brands and panelists were welcomed into our venue in the morning.. stunning exposed brick walls, bright open windows, Arium Studios greenery and touches of the TBC aesthetic in every corner made up our clean beauty haven for the day.

Our amazing marketplace, including Smith Farms, Wildcraft, Province Apothecary, Indie Lee, Zyderma, Well Told Health, Cocoon Apothecary, and Cardea Auset, featured uniquely beautiful displays and equally beautiful reps and founders ready to answer questions and teach guests about their brands! Our clean beauty lovers were welcome to explore, shop and learn throughout the day.

Our first panel began at 10am to speak about growth and investment in the clean beauty industry. Our host Candice Batista of the EcoHub was joined by Karina Birch of Rocky Mountain Soap, Graydon Moffat of Graydon Skincare, Nicole Bethell of Woodlot and our very own founder Jennifer Freitas. These beauties touched on a range of topics including the unique challenges that come with a brick and mortar location vs. an online store, keeping up with consumer demand, and how to scale a business in this industry!

Next up Melodie Reynolds of Elate Cosmetics, Kenna Whitnell of Altilis Beauty and Rebecca Gordon of Indie Lee joined Jennifer for a conversation on sustainability in the industry, led again by the wonderful Candice Batista. They discussed ingredient sourcing, packaging challenges and innovative sustainable practices! The compelling conversation ended with a Q&A with members of our lovely audience. Key Takeaway: Innovation and intention are two driving principles of the clean beauty movement! From Elate’s seed paper, to Indie Lee’s efficient shipping practices, to Altilis’ sustainable ingredient sourcing… there is thought, intention and innovation every step of the way. These trailblazers are changing the game!

For our third panel of the day Monico Ruffo of Well Told Health and Fran Allen of Province Apothecary joined Jennifer on stage and were led through a discussion on beauty ingestibles by Candice. As we learnt from these amazing ladies, we really do glow from the inside out. As our founder Jennifer said, we love our lotions and potions, but it’s important to think about what we put into our bodies as well! With that in mind, Monica and Fran discussed the importance of gut health for the skin (and mood). Their tip: eat more fermented foods and healthy fats to keep your gut healthy and skin glowing! A healthy diet, the use of supplements and a balanced lifestyle can keep your heart, mind and skin healthy and happy. Fran encouraged the audience to see a professional, such as a holistic nutritionist, for specific concerns about skin health!

After that round of deliciously informative panels, we gave our guests and panelists a break to soak in all the knowledge, have a bite to eat, a nice fruit infused water, and explore the marketplace while mingling and getting to know each brand a bit better!

In the afternoon, we welcomed even more guests to join us! Friends, clients, family, clean beauty lovers and curious shoppers entered our space and dove right in for a quick trip around the marketplace before the next panel.

Our roundup panel was Skin Health as a Journey. The lovely Monica Ruffo of WellTold Health co, Karina Birch of Rocky Mountain Soap, Fran Allen of Province Apothecary, Kenna Whittell of Altilis, Graydon Moffat of Graydon Skincare, Melodie Reynolds of Elate Cosmetics, Rebecca Gordon of Indie Lee, our very own Jennifer Freitas, and our host Candice Batista took the stage to discuss skin health as a journey: the ups, downs, and “aha” moments.

The standout moment was when the panelists were asked “WHAT IS YOUR SKIN HACK” and their answers did not disappoint….

Graydon had the whole audience and panel participating in a mini facial yoga exercise. Kenna shared her trick for glowing skin… a head stand! Fran showed some love for raw honey, stating that internally and externally it is a powerhouse for the skin. Melodie laid down some knowledge and told us not to be afraid of oils! Monica urged us all to eat more plants, while Karina taught us about the harmful effects of blue light that comes from our screens. (Don’t worry - you can turn it off! Simply google “how to turn off the blue light on my... “). Rebecca reminded us to accept ourselves and use loving language, such as repair and renew, when we think or talk about our skin. Jen shared that a good hard yoga class never fails to give her a healthy glow! Candice had two words: sleep and sunblock! What a way to round up our panel discussions for the day!

Next up the stunning Danielle Schleese of Holistic Beauties took to the stage for a clean beauty make-up demo joined by, Melodie Reynolds of Elate Cosmetics to chat and answer questions throughout the demonstration. Danielle featured products from Elate, Clove and Hallow, Vapour and Sappho, to create a stunning everyday fall makeup look. One question seemed to be on everyone’s mind: do these products perform in the same way as traditional cosmetics? The answer: a unanimous YES. Danielle showed that clean beauty can be just as effective, long-lasting, and easy to apply as traditional cosmetics. Melodie and Danielle discussed tips and tricks to make the make-up application process smooth and easy! Standout Tip: use a lip scrub and balm to condition, soften and prime the lips before applying any colour. Another big tip: clean your brushes!

For the final demonstration of the day, Jennifer was joined by her skin guru, Kristen Blow of Woodside Holistic, to the stage to chat about all things facial massage: dry brushing, jade rolling, gua sha and more! Jen and Kristen went over all the basics: the whats, the hows and the whys. Kristen shared that facial massage performed with facial tools can reduce the look of fine lines, tone and firm skin, slough off dead skin, improve product penetration and stimulate circulation. By the way… It is so fun! Kristen went through each tool and showed the audience how it can be used, and what it’s individual benefits are. Facial massage and tools are a perfect mix of skincare and self-care… and we can’t get enough!

And that’s a wrap! With a big thanks to our sponsors, panelists, marketplace vendors, and guests we said goodbye to True Beauty Talk for 2018. We cannot wait to see what this next year has in store for the clean beauty world. Until next time beauties! Xo.

If you suffer from problem skin as a result of PCOS then we are here to give you a big hug (and great advice of course), because we know how frustrating and disheartening it can be.

PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) is, in short, a hormone imbalance that causes women with the condition to produce higher than normal amounts of male hormones (testosterone).

This can cause an array of symptoms including missed menstrual periods, but in this article we’ll be talking about tips to soothe the angry, inflamed and blemish prone skin common in PCOS sufferers.

Use gentle exfoliation

Exfoliation is key to removing dead skin build up to help unclog the pores so you can start enjoying happier, clearer skin.

However, you need to treat your skin gently, as harsh exfoliants can actually aggravate your skin and make the problem worse.

Our Petal Purity Exfoliating Cleanser by Cocoon is just what you need! This excellent yet super gentle exfoliator has a non-abrasive formula and contains spherical jojoba beads to gently slough off dead skin while lavender and geranium help to purify and provide beautiful soothing relief!

Avoid hot water

We all love a steamy shower, but hot water strips your skin of all beneficial oils, leaving it parched and at an increased risk for inflammation.

Always rinse with lukewarm water to maintain your skin’s delicate moisture balance and gently pat dry with a clean, soft towel. A fluffy towel doesn’t hurt either!

Don’t skip the moisturizer

Many people who struggle with their skin have this belief that they need to avoid moisturizer as it will simply increase sebum levels in the skin.

This is so far from the truth though! By skipping moisturizer you actually put your skin at risk for more breakouts as your skin will try to compensate for the lack of oil, often by producing too much.

Never leave home without a good moisturizer like this one! Gentle, yet effective, while providing the perfect moisture balance.

Fill your diet with anti-inflammatory foods

Good skin starts on the inside after all!

These foods will help to fight internal inflammation that may be manifesting externally, all while boosting your energy levels and fighting free radicals to drastically reduce your risk of disease!

Don’t over-cleanse

It may be tempting to wash your face multiple times a day when it’s feeling greasy, but this won’t help at all, it will simply strip your skin of much needed natural oils.

Stick to cleansing your face just twice a day. In fact, in the mornings you may want to just use some toner on a cotton pad to cleanse your face, we love this one by Apoterra. Be sure to follow up with their facial oil, a fast absorbing formula packed with ingredients that will reduce redness and inflammation all while soothing and healing troubled skin. Can be worn morning and night.

We hope these tips help you to get your skin under control so you can feel more like yourself again!

Facial oils have gained an excellent reputation as the holy grail product for beautiful and glowing skin. Some people may still believe the old myth that “oil produces oil”, but the truth is, that antioxidant rich oils brimming with nutrients, vitamins and minerals, are actually fantastic for all skin types; yes we are even referring to you oily skinned gals and guys!

If your skin is oily, the last thing you want to do is ditch the moisturizer, as this will cause your body to overproduce sebum as a way to compensate. An oil may be even better for you though, as highly concentrated active ingredients help to soothe and heal blemishes by fighting inflammation in the skin.

Of course facial oils are also your best friend if you are looking for an anti-aging product in a jar or bottle! The same active ingredients that soothe problem skin help to fight off free radicals that contribute to lines and wrinkles. Antioxidants like vitamin C also help to promote the formation of collagen ensuring your skin stays plump and ageless!

Keep reading to find out three of our favourite oils here at The Truth Beauty Company.

Coconut Oil

If you thought coconut oil was simply a trend then you thought wrong!

Did you know that this oil is considered the healthiest oil on the planet thanks to high levels of lauric acid, rarely found in nature? Who wouldn’t want to slather their skin in an oil like this?

Lauric acid has antifungal, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, making it ideal for even the most acne-prone skin.

Coconut oil also contains high amounts of fatty acids that help to fight free radicals and rejuvenate the skin, for a smooth and beautifully glowing complexion!

Rosehip Seed Oil

Extracted from the seeds of a specific variety of rose. This oil’s benefits are as luxurious as it’s origins.

Rosehip seed oil is fantastic for keeping the skin youthful thanks to high concentrations of antioxidants including Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin E. These vitamins along with other nutrients and fatty acids help to rejuvenate, repair and improve overall skin texture for a difference you can see and feel.

Powerful photoaging protection makes this oil a favourite in reducing the damaging effects of the sun such as sunspots, lines and pigmentation.

You will find this magic oil, along with a few more beautiful oils and high quality ingredients in our Beauty Oil By RMS.

Flax Seed Oil

You may have always thought of flaxseeds as something you sprinkle on your oatmeal, but when the oil is applied to the skin, the results are remarkable!

Rich in fatty acids, B vitamins and Zinc, will help to remove all traces of your makeup, dirt and grime of the day, while providing your skin with the perfect balance of hydration. Use this on a regular basis and you will notice clearer, brighter and softer skin!

These are just 3 of our favourite oils, but the choices are endless. Try a facial oil today and do share your pics and results with us!

The site says ‘bespoke ritual’ …. and it is so accurately described; from the moment you arrive at Woodside Holistic , the moments become all about YOU.

The charming space is decorated with Native artwork and a jungalow of plants and succulents, a sanctuary of zen and what connects us to the physical world.

Entering the softly backlit studio space, I get undressed and slip between the sheets and wait for Kristen.

Examining my face, she tells me what she intends to do for the next hour and asks what concerns I have. Other than being prone to dark circles and starting to see fine lines, I say that I am most excited to have my spirit calmed.

And that’s the thing with Woodside - Kristen really gets how intimately connected our spirit is to our overall wellness, and as I have preached for years - our wellness is exhibited by our skin in the most upfront form.

Kristen is certified in many holistic disciplines: aromatherapy, herbology, holistic skin Therapies, Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine, which she incorporates into the treatments on a need basis.

Upon her entering, she asked me to choose a gemstone - no thinking, just the one I was drawn towards. I’m really into this ‘woo-woo’ stuff (I don’t find it all that ‘woo-woo’) as I really do believe we are all connected in some way. Our energy as humans is felt by the Earth, and the Earth returns that energy in many ways … I can’t recall the stone I chose but I am sure it benefited me in some way I was needing that day.

My treatment began with some lymph massage. Lymphatic fatigue can manifest as dark circles, puffiness around the eyes, duller skin and even fine lines. I find it interesting that these symptoms manifest towards the upper part of our faces, when much of the lymph work happens around your chin, clavicle, and behind the ears as that is where large numbers of lymph nodes are located.

Kristen also incorporated gua sha and her kansa wand. (Yes, this chick totally has super powers). I love these sort of modalities as I incorporate them even at home, with my dry brush and jade roller, and believe they have aided with keeping my skin youthful looking (gua sha and kansa are comparative to jade / quartz rolling, and even share properties with dry brushing). The result is a deeper stimulation that lifts, firms and enhances production of natural proteins, like collagen and elastin (a.k.a. necessary building blocks of dewy, plump skin).

Kristen continued with facial massage, which I firmly believe revitalizes skin on a deeper level than any topical treatment can do! My thinking is this: just like muscles in the body, the muscles in your face benefit from movement - the more you move them, the more lifted, tightened and toned they become. I love yoga for what it does to my body and I love facial massage / stimulation for my face. If you remember my Tulum trip it was all about yoga and spa visits … and I particularly raved about the ‘tanaka’ (japanese facial massage) experience I had while there! Movement keeps us looking and feeling young!

Kristen also custom blended a serum for my face, which she used while giving these treatments. Magical oils from camellia seed (hello antioxidants), jojoba oil (a nourishing yet lightweight oil), red raspberry seed oil (vitamins A & E and omegas fatty acids), and pomegranate seed oil, with neroli, frankincense and geranium is what she felt my face needed. My face loves this blend as the oils are hydrating enough and also restorative! I really love that this blend was created with MY skin in mind.

Kristen really does weave the mind, body and spirit into her practice of treating your skin. I left feeling restored and balanced. My skin felt dewy, yet sculpted. And I can’t wait to go back…. Which I intend to do soon, as the season’s are changing! Stay tuned for the Insta-stories …. I do hope to incorporate another modality she does … maybe facial cupping!
