March’s new moon comes on the 6th at 12:04PM ET in watery Pisces. This new moon can help us to get in tune with intuition and let it guide us, connect to our spiritual selves, and be more compassionate. We can have a more gentle touch, and want to focus on making everything better for everyone.
Imagination can be strong, and we can get lost in daydreams and fantasies. If we can get hold of the energy, we can use it for creative and artistic ventures. We may dream up other worlds and realms, and feel connected to them.
We may reach out to those who have difficulty helping themselves, and try to find ways to assist. We can be more empathic and understanding, and want to ease the pain in the world. We may strive to be of help in more personal ways.
Pisces is the last sign of the Zodiac, so we may wrap things up, finish things off, come to the end with something, but we’re less emotional about it and more pumped up about it. We’re ready to move on and make room for the new that we can see on the horizon.
The new moon is conjunct (aligned with) Neptune in Pisces, and Neptune is the natural ruler of Pisces, so this conjunction can amplify the Pisces energy, making us even more intuitive, imaginative, empathic, compassionate, artistic, and spiritual.
This new moon is sextile (positive aspect, 2 signs away) Mars in Taurus and widely sextile Saturn in Capricorn. These are supportive aspects that provide energy and drive (Mars) in a disciplined, productive way (Saturn). In earth signs, these two planets help to provide some grounding energy, which is needed with flowy Pisces.
In the troubling category, this new moon does occur one day after the start of Mercury retrograde in Pisces. The retrograde does not begin conjunct the new moon, BUT it does end conjunct the new moon point since it ends at 16 degrees Pisces. So aspects that this new moon makes to your chart may also be impacted by the end of the Mercury retrograde. Try to use the energy of the new moon to set yourself up to be in a positive position to come out of the retrograde.
Uranus also moves into a new sign on the same day as this new moon! S we may be extra focused on the new chapters that are coming for all of us. We’ve just gotta get through the Mercury retrograde first ;)
This new moon occurs at 15 degrees 47 minutes Pisces. The aspects to the new moon are: Conjunction: 13 degrees 47 minutes - 17 degrees 47 minutes Pisces Sextile: 13 degrees 47 minutes - 17 degrees 47 minutes Taurus or Capricorn Square: 13 degrees 47 minutes - 17 degrees 47 minutes Gemini Sagittarius Trine: 13 degrees 47 minutes - 17 degrees 47 minutes Cancer or Scorpio Opposition: 13 degrees 47 minutes - 17 degrees 47 minutes Virgo
March’s full moon comes on the 20th in airy Libra. Libra is the sign of relationships, so we may extra focused on the people in our lives. We can be more emotional in our relationships, and want stronger connections that support us emotionally and have mutual respect. Without positive connections, we can feel out of sorts. If we’re surrounded by chaos and disharmony, we may feel indecisive and out of balance. We need to try to keep the peace so we can remain calm, focused, and centered.
We may be more concerned with the other side of situations, other viewpoints, and this can cause us to put our own opinions to the side, but we need to make sure we’re not ignoring what we think and feel just to make room for everyone else. We have to find room for all, including ourselves.
We may be weighing options with this full moon, and can feel a little like we’re teetering on the brink of something. A good something or a bad something?
This full moon occurs at a special degree, 0 degrees of Libra, which is a critical degree and the Zero Degrees Aries Point in Libra. This can jazz up the energy of this full moon, and we can be extremely focused on how we connect ourselves with others. We need to recognize our individuality and the individuality of others, and work to be cohesive and rather than dominating.
This full moon occurs at 0 degrees 9 minutes Libra. The aspects for this full moon are: Conjunction: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 9 minutes Libra Sextile: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 9 minutes Leo or Sagittarius Square: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 9 minutes Cancer or Capricorn Trine: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 9 minutes Gemini or Aquarius Opposition: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 9 minutes Aries
Since this full moon is so early in Libra, you may also feel aspects made out of sign, which would be: ConjunctIon: 28 degrees 9 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Virgo Sextile: 28 degrees 9 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Cancer or Scorpio Square: 28 degrees 9 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Gemini or Sagittarius Trine: 28 degrees 9 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Taurus or Capricorn Opposition: 28 degrees 9 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Pisces
The basics: A retrograde occurs when a planet appears to be moving backwards from our vantage point here on Earth. It isn't actually moving backwards, it just appears that way. Mercury turns retrograde most often, about 3-4 times per year, and lasts for several weeks. When a planet retrogrades, what that planet rules tends to be thrown off, along with what the sign it's retrograding in rules.
With Mercury retrograde, we experience a shadow and a storm. The shadow period starts when Mercury first hits the point in the Zodiac it will turn direct at, and ends when it last hits the point in the Zodiac it will turn retrograde at. Most people don't feel the effects of Mercury retrograde until it enters the storm period though. The storm period of Mercury retrograde is when Mercury is moving at its slowest, less than 40 minutes per day. Mercury is a fast-moving planet and hates it when he's moving slowly. There's usually two storm periods, one around the time Mercury turns retrograde, and one around when it turns direct.
This Mercury retrograde begins on March 5th at 2:18PM ET and ends on March 28th at 9:58AM ET. The shadow period is February 19th - April 16th. The first storm period is March 1st - 10th, and second storm period is March 22nd - April 6th.
Here comes the first Mercury madness for 2019! This retrograde occurs entirely in the sign of Pisces - foggy, delusional, wandering Pisces, so here comes the fog, delusion, and aimless wandering, oh boy! We may find ourselves getting stuck in a fog pretty easily, which can make it hard to make decisions, to think clearly, and to focus. We can be more easily misled, delude ourselves or are deceived by others, and can be easily manipulated. We may wander around, flowing from this to that, seemingly directionless. It becomes important with Pisces energy to make sure we’re grounded and to be as realistic as possible, otherwise we can find ourselves with a lot of issues!
We may be more easily rundown, constantly tired, and the world may be a bit sluggish as the more dominating among us become more demanding and draining on our energy. We need to make time for rest and quiet time alone so we can recharge, otherwise we just keep getting drained until we’re dry. Healthy boundaries are always important with Pisces.
Pisces is a compassionate sign, full of empathy and understanding, and we may find that we;re either too compassionate and understanding, which leads us to be taken advantage of; or, we’re lacking compassion and understanding, and make seem especially cruel in some way. There may be some sort of situation that is seen as particularly cruel, and we have to decide if we’re going to exercise compassion and help those who can’t help themselves.
Spirituality and intuition fall under the domain of Pisces, and we may be more focused on spiritual needs. It can be a good time to tend to them, but we need to make sure we don’t get too lost in them and lack an open mind and accepting heart. Intuition can be helpful for guidance since focus may be lacking, but we need to work on truly listening to our inner guides and not just believing what we want to believe.
Pisces is the last sign of the Zodiac, so we may be focused on something that needs to come to an end. We may encounter resistance, blocks, issues as we try to finish, close out, or let go, whether internal or external, and we may need to make sure we’re eliminating from the root and no just on the surface so it doesn’t come back again. Something we thought we were done with and wouldn’t have to deal with again could come back, rearing its ugly head, and we have to make sure we really take care of it this time. Zombie period!
Water, feet, music, the arts, and toxins are all ruled by Pisces, so we may see some developments related to water/the oceans/pollution, with a musician or artist or dancer, or drugs. Large animals are also ruled by Pisces, so they may get attention in some way as well.
The Pisces energy os this retrograde is cranked up to an 11 for a lot of reasons. One, it’s going to start at the anaretic degree, which is 29 degrees of any sign, the very last degree and a point of crisis energy. In transit, this can be a difficult time, and it may trigger something very important around the start of the retrograde. Mercury will be anaretic March 2nd - 8th, so watch that space. In Pisces, this is last degree of the last sign, so it’s literally the very last degree of the Zodiac! So this may show something that we thought was going to end doesn’t end, rising back from the dead (it’s a zombie retrograde!).
The day after Mercury retrograde starts, Uranus will move into a new sign, earth sign Taurus. So to start the retrograde, Uranus will also be anaretic but in Aries! So this may be some suuuuper wild energy to kick the retrograde off. Run for the hills?
Then a new moon occurs in Pisces on March 6th, the day after the Mercury retrograde starts in Pisces. In fact, the Moon is in Pisces as the retrograde begins (March 5th 4:11AM ET - March 7th 4:28PM ET). This brings extra energy for Pisces at the start of the retrograde (like there won’t be enough!). But with the new moon, it’ll try to be helpful, not hurtful. We just have to consciously decide to use the energy as best as we can to be productive with imagination, get attuned to intuition, stay grounded in spirituality, and lend a helping hand in healthy ways.
Pisces energy can also be strong when the Mercury retrograde conjuncts (aligns with) the Sun in Pisces on March 15th (at 24 degrees 11 minutes Pisces). This is called the inferior conjunction, and can actually be a good time to start something during the retrograde that you focus on for about the next 2 months. What exactly you focus on may be related to the areas of life ruled by the house in your chart this occurs.
Mercury retrograde will be at a critical degree, 17 degrees Pisces, March 22nd - 24th, which also amplifies the Pisces energy, but it can be in a difficult way where we’re feeling extra challenged to handle the energy. We have to maintain boundaries, stay grounded, and not lose our grip. And avoid the zombies!
The retrograde then ends conjunct the natural ruler of Pisces, Neptune, who is in Pisces too! This is exact on March 24th, and with Neptune energy being dissolving, we may be coming out of the retrograde looking to dissolve something, fade into/away from something, or bring something important to a close. (I’m not British, but I am thinking about the fact that the UK is supposed to exit the EU like 8 hours or so after the retrograde officially ends - feels a little dicey!)
Mercury makes four major aspects during the retrograde (in addition to the conjunctions to the Sun and Neptune: sextile (positive aspect, two signs away) transit Mars in Taurus March 17th (good for taking action with ideas and plans), square (hard aspect, three signs away) transit Jupiter in Sagittarius March 15th (making us prone to excess and talking a little too big), sextile transit Saturn in Capricorn March 20th (giving some discipline and focus), and sextile transit Pluto in Capricorn March 16th (giving a little power and control back).
The Moon is in the signs Mercury naturally rules, Gemini and Virgo, March 12th (11:48AM) - 14th (5:49PM) and March 18th (9:42PM), - 20th (9:28PM). This can make us all a little emotionally anxious, on edge, feeling extra off, and needing to give ourselves time to calm down, to get things done, and exercise extra patience.
The retrograde begins at 29 degrees Pisces, so those of you Fishies born after March 17th may feel the start of the retrograde most. The retrograde ends at 16 degrees Pisces, so those of you Fishies born March 4th - 9th may feel the end of this retrograde most.
Note that if you have any anaretic planets in your natal or progressed charts, they get jazzed up by the start of the Mercury retrograde (and Uranus), regardless of the aspect, so pay special attention to that point in your chart!
For the rest of you, check the house(s) Mercury will be retrograding in of your own natal chart, and any aspects Mercury will make during its retrograde to your natal planets, to fully understand how it will impact you personally.
If you have Mercury retrograde in your natal or progressed chart, you may not feel the worst of this. Those individuals generally don't experience the difficulties of the retrograde because it feels more natural to them. Of course, chances are everyone else around them doesn't have the same aspect, so they can still experience difficulties brought on by others.
Uranus is the planet of change, ruling the sudden and unexpected, the unconventional, and the new. Uranus is the future, the one who pushes us outside of our comfort zones, and challenges us to find new perceptions. In love, this means that Uranus can shake things up in existing relationships, and bring some totally new, different people into our lives. Sometimes this is great, and sometimes this is NOT!
When you or someone you know experiences a major change in a relationship, this is often the work of a Uranus transit. Transit Uranus conjunct, square, or opposite natal or progressed Venus, the natal or progressed 7th or 5th house cusps, or the natal 5th or 7th house rulers often bring about some relationship upheaval. In some cases, this can get you out of a relationship rut, and the sudden developments and changes can offer an opportunity for you to improve your connection and become closer. But probably in most cases, the upheaval results in the breaking of the relationship as you suddenly want something other than what you have, and don’t find what you have to be fulfilling the need for the new and for greater independence.
When you experience these transits while single, this can bring a complete shift in your approach to relationships, what you want from relationships and a partner, and what you’re willing to give. This can be a time when you push back even more, craving even more space from others as you desire to be completely and totally free to be yourself, unabashed. For those of you who are the loner types, it might end up being the reverse, and the change you experience is actually being with someone. The people you attract into your life will likely be very different from the people you normally attract or are attracted to. A new relationship may also be different from any kind of relationship you’ve had before; if you’re naturally traditional, you may opt for something unconventional, and vice versa.
When you have a Uranus connection with someone in synastry, that can bring out some erratic energy between the two of you depending on the planet Uranus is connecting with. If it’s the Sun, Moon, Venus, or Mars, this may show difficulty with having stability in the relationship, and one of you may view the other as way too erratic. A certain amount of space is likely required, and you need to not smother each other. This connection can show the relationship starts hot and fast and burns out in a jiffy.
Just like with Neptune, to counter Uranus, you need some Saturn in the mix. Where Uranus is unconventional and wild, Saturn is traditional and stoic. Saturn controls the uncontrollable. Having strong Saturn in the natal chart can help prevent you from being too crazy in relationships in the first place; having positive transit Saturn aspects while experiencing difficult Uranus aspects can help bring some calming energy that allow you to find more control; and having Saturn links in synastry or the composite chart can help smooth out the erratic Uranus energy. Without Saturn? Get ready for a wild ride!
Neptune is the foggy planet, ruling illusion, delusion, and deception. Sometimes, this is self-deception, self-delusion, and we refuse to see what’s right in front of us. Neptune also rules our spiritual selves, and what we connect with spiritually. In love, this means Neptune can govern soul connections where we feel a strong link to someone on a soul level, but also not seeing people for who they really are and falling for the wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Falling for the very-wrong person often comes in transits, with hard aspects (conjunctions, squares, oppositions) by transit Neptune to the natal Sun, Moon, Venus, or 5th or 7th house ruler of cusp. Care must be taken during those times to avoid falling prey to someone who does not have your best interests at heart (at all!). This can also sometimes happen with hard aspects involving Neptune and progressions, particularly when the progressed 5th or 7th house cusps or progressed Venus conjunct, square, oppose natal or progressed Neptune. It can show finding a soul mate, or finding that wolf! Usually which manifests depends on what predispositions are in your natal chart, as well as what’s going on with the chart of the person you meet and in your composite chart together. If there’s lots of hard Neptune, water energy, or 12th house energy, that increases the likelihood.
When you have a Neptune connection with someone in synastry, there can be some trouble seeing each other as you really are. This can be a good thing sometimes, and it can inspire you to rise to the level you feel they’re at. But it can also show that you’re not being realistic at times, and that this is someone who can easily deceive you, and you won’t figure it out until it’s too late. The Neptune connection does show someone you have a soul connection with though, for better or worse, and this may be someone you have to learn a lesson from, even if it’s not meant to last a lifetime.
To counter Neptune, Saturn and some earth energy is usually needed. Saturn is the planet of reality and is super grounded, as is earth energy, so this helps to balance out the flowy energy of Neptune. Having strong Saturn or lots of earth energy in your natal chart can help you to avoid falling for the wolf; having positive Saturn transits while undergoing hard Neptune transits can help as well; and having a strong Saturn or wolf energy in the composite chart can help you both to see each other realistically and ground the spiritual connection. If there’s no Saturn or earth energy? Maybe hide in a closet!
February new moon comes on the 5th at 4:04PM ET in air sign Aquarius. So with this new moon, we can focus on the future, what we hope it will be like, and what we want to change. We can be a little idealistic, but open to the new that needs to happen in order to make the big changes and big future that we want to have.
We can feel more independent and forward-thinking, inventive and original. We can be true to ourselves, and want the freedom to be able to be who we are, without being boxed in. We can push outside of comfort zones, and do things in new ways, perhaps different from the norm, but still true to ourselves.
We may want to come together and focus on mankind, everyone as a whole, and do more to help others. Because we can see further into the future, we can understand how we all fit together and need to help each other out.
Aquarius is naturally ruled by the planet Uranus, who is at the end of his time in the sign of Aries and comes to a special degree, the anaretic degree, just after this new moon. So this new moon amplifies the focus on Uranus energy, and we can push harder for change, for coming together, for individuality, and for the future.
This new moon occurs at 15 degrees 45 minutes Aquarius. The aspects to this new moon are: Conjunction: 13 degrees 45 minutes - 17 degrees 45 minutes Aquarius Sextile: 13 degrees 45 minutes - 17 degrees 45 minutes Aries or Sagittarius Square: 13 degrees 45 minutes - 17 degrees 45 minutes Taurus or Scorpio Trine: 13 degrees 45 minutes - 17 degrees 45 minutes Gemini or Libra Opposition: 13 degrees 45 minutes - 17 degrees 45 minutes Leo
February’s full moon comes on the 19th at 10:53AM ET in earth sign Virgo. The full moon brings us down a little to reality, and we can focus on the small details, the here-and-now, the physical world in front of us, and the matters at hand. We can give a great deal of focus to getting things done, lots of small projects, tasks, and chores, and we need to be careful of picking things apart and keeping ourselves from actually getting anything done. It doesn’t need to be perfect, and perfect isn’t possible anyway.
Virgo full moons can bring a little extra stress as we put more pressure on ourselves to meet expectations that aren’t possible, and focus too much on the little things, worrying ourselves and becoming anxious little creatures. We need to take a step back, take a break when needed, and make sure we’re not losing sight of the big picture. Try to have healthy, positive outlets for stress.
This can be good energy if we take some of that big picture, future thinking from the new moon and infuse it with some of the missing details we find with the full moon.
This full moon occurs at 0 degrees 42 minutes Virgo. The aspects to this full moon are: Conjunction: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 42 minutes Virgo Sextile: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 42 minutes Cancer or Scorpio Square: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 42 minutes Gemini or Sagittarius Trine: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 42 minutes Taurus or Capricorn Opposition: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 2 degrees 42 minutes Pisces
Since this full moon is so early in Virgo, you may also feel aspects made out of sign, which would be: ConjunctIon: 29 degrees 42 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Leo Sextile: 29 degrees 42 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Gemini or Libra Square: 29 degrees 42 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Taurus or Scorpio Trine: 29 degrees 42 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Aries or Sagittarius Opposition: 29 degrees 42 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Aquarius
Maybe you’re thinking of getting a pet, and you want to use astrology to figure out the best time to get one. Animals are split into two categories, with smaller and domestic pets (so cats and dogs and more traditional animals) governed by Virgo, Mercury, and the 6th house, and larger and exotic pets (usually what you’d consider a zoo animal) governed by Pisces, Neptune, and the 12th house.
You can get a pet when you have a transit (moving) planet going through the 6th/12th house, aspecting a natal planet in Virgo/Pisces, aspecting your natal Mercury/Neptune, or aspecting the ruler of your 6th/12th house. You generally want to see positive aspects (sextiles and trines) so it’s an easy transition (though a conjunction by the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, or Jupiter can be good as well). Positive aspects by Mercury or Neptune to any part of your chart can be good energy for getting a pet as well.
A return chart with the return planet in the 6th/12th house, the Rising of the return chart in Virgo/Pisces, or the ruler of the 1st house in the return chart in the 6th/12th house can also be good for getting a pet. Your progressed Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, or Mars in Virgo/Pisces, the natal or progressed 6th/12th house, aspecting the natal or progressed ruler of the 6th/12th house, or aspecting natal or progressed Mercury/Neptune can also be good for getting a pet.
If you don’t want to wait long, you can use the Moon, who travels quickly (zooms through the entire Zodiac is less then one month). You can get a pet when the Moon will be in your 6th/12th house, or conjunct your 6th/12th house ruler or Mercury/Neptune.
Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto in the 6th/12th house or making a hard aspect (conjunct, square, opposite) to your 6th/12th house cusp, ruler, or Mercury/Neptune can be difficult times to get a pet, and you have a hard time finding one, or it just doesn’t work out the way you thought it would. Retrogrades can be a bad idea for getting a pet if you’re getting a brand new pet; if you’re going to get the same kind of pet that you’ve had before, then doing it under a retrograde is a good time (for example, I have a friend who got the same breed of dog as her previous dog when Venus retrograde conjuncted her 6th house cusp - though it did turn out to be a little hyper!). (originally from the March 2016 monthly newsletter)
When you're assessing your progressed chart and comparing it to your natal chart, one of the things you can look at is if the progressed angles - the 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th house cusps - will be making an aspect to any of your natal planets. House cusps come in pairs with each having an exact opposite house, and the 1st and 7th house cusps are exactly opposite one another, so you can interpret them together. This axis is the axis of relationships, governing your connection to the self (1st house) and to others (7th house). So when they're making an aspect to your natal planets, that aspect impacts your connections with the self and with others.
A sextile/trine (the easy aspects; they go hand-in-hand so if a natal planet is sextile one house cusp, it's trine the other) can show a positive period for your relationships and connections. The Sun grabs your attention and shines a light; the Moon brings emotional focus and emotional connection; Mercury focuses on mental connections and communications; Venus makes interactions pleasant and affection more easily expressed; Mars brings energy and drive to focus on the self and others; Jupiter helps improve connections and can bring beneficial relations; Saturn increases responsibility, stability, and commitment; Uranus helps you make changes with the self or in relationships and bring new/different people in your life; Neptune improves soul connections; and Pluto improves intimacy and promotes growth through connecting.
A square (hard aspect) can show a difficult period with challenges in your connection to the self and others. Balance is often required, balancing your focus on the self with focus on others and addressing your own wants/needs with the wants/needs of others. Often with a square, one ends up taking focus and the other is ignored. This can seem more obvious to you with the Sun; create emotional disruption and insecurity with the Moon; present communication problems and misunderstandings with Mercury; make affection difficult and grow more of a chasm between the self and others with Venus; increase frustration and annoyance with the self/others with Mars; expand on existing challenges with Jupiter; create feelings of restriction/limitation and suffocation or overwhelm with Saturn; create instability and erratic behavior with Uranus; increase delusion, illusion, deception, victimization, or subconscious widen chasms with Neptune; and increase resentment, hostility, manipulation, and struggles over power and control with Pluto.
The 4th and 10th house axis is the axis of foundations, governing your internal foundation and emotional/personal self (4th house) and your external foundation and goals/ambitions/external self (10th house. So when they're making an aspect to your natal planets, that aspect impacts your internal and external foundation/self.
A sextile/trine can show a positive period for the foundation of your life and self. The Sun shines a light; the Moon brings emotional focus on internal and external needs being met; Mercury focuses on personal and professional ideas/plans; Venus brings pleasant energy for balancing the internal and external; Mars brings energy and drive to focus on your foundation and needs; Jupiter helps open opportunities for personal and professional growth; Saturn increases focus on stability and security; Uranus opens you up to changes personally/professionally or to taking different approaches to meeting internal/external needs; Neptune strengthens emotional intuition as well as provides intuitive guidance for your life path; and Pluto gives more power and control over your foundation.
A square can show a difficult period with challenges that can make your foundation feel shaky, and you may focus too much on the personal/emotional/internal or too much on the external/professional/goals. Balance is often required with the square, balancing the internal with the external, the personal with the professional, where you've come from with where you're going. This can seem more obvious with the Sun; create emotional insecurity with the Moon and shake you at your core; present difficulties in communication with Mercury; shake relationship foundations with Venus; stir up frustrations and impulsiveness with Mars; expand on existing issues with Jupiter; make you feel stifled, overwhelmed, and like you're being pushed down/held back with Saturn; generate sudden/unexpected issues with your foundation with Uranus; make it difficult for you to see through the fog to have internal confidence or confidence in your direction with Neptune; and can stir up difficult deeply-held issues with Pluto that impact both your emotional and professional selves.
Conjunctions/oppositions go hand-in-hand (if a natal planet is conjunct one progressed house cusp, it's opposite the other), and show the natal planet has been moved into a new progressed house. This can be interpreted similarly to if that planet was in that house natally as if becomes more natural for you, but with an element of if it were there by transit since it can stimulate developments related to the house (especially at the onset while still conjunct the progressed house cusp). (originally from the October and November 2018 monthly newsletters)
We all have hopes and dreams, for our lives and the world, and there are times when we focus on this more than others. The 11th house and Uranus are the rulers of our hopes and dreams, so when we have transits to the 11th house cusp or ruler or Uranus, aspects by transit Uranus, or planets touring the 11th house, this can bring focus to our hopes and dreams. Transit Jupiter in the 11th house, conjunct the 11th house ruler, or conjunct natal Uranus can be some of the best periods you have to pursue opportunities to achieve a hope or dream for your life. You can feel open to trying things in new ways, and taking a chance on opportunities you have. You can also get great energy with transit Uranus conjunct, sextile, or trine your natal Jupiter, 11th house cusp, or 11th house ruler, though this may come with some unexpected energy, more independence, and a stronger willingness to push outside of your comfort zone to achieve your dreams.
Transit Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars tour the 11th house for short period, 1-2 months, and these can be the times during each year where you’re thinking more about what you hope your future will look like and the dreams you have. If Mercury, Venus, or Mars retrograde in the 11th house, this can be one of the more difficult times for your hopes and dreams, and you may question yourself, feel you need to give up, and walk away. This is usually only temporary though, and you can find your way back to your hopes and dreams when the retrograde is over.
Transit Saturn in your 11th house can be tricky. Saturn is the planet of reality, so while he’s in you 11th house, you have the opportunity to make your dreams (11th house) a reality (Saturn), but it usually requires a lot of hard work and dedication - you know, Saturn-style! Same can go for Saturn conjunct your 11th house ruler or natal Uranus. Saturn sextile or trine can be easier energy to work with, but if he’s square or opposite, you may struggle immensely and have much bigger challenges to overcome in order to stay true to your dreams. You may feel you have to be more realistic, and this can make you pessimistic, but that may not actually be true. Your dreams may be attainable, but you can talk yourself out of them. So avoid the pessimism!
Positive transit aspects to your 11th house cusp, ruler, or natal Uranus can be excellent times to focus on your hopes and dreams. You can feel more hopeful, want to pursue opportunities, and can be inspired to change. Pluto can increase passion and intensity for a prolonged period of 2-3 years, while Neptune can guide you intuitively in the right direction for 1-2 years.
Progressed planets moving into your natal 11th house or natal planets moving into your progressed 11th house can bring a strong focus on your hopes and dreams, but for a much longer period of time (can be decades). Transit planets can then trigger the energy, and you can make some major headway when they occur.
What hopes and dreams you have and the approach you take to them can be found with the sign on the 11th house cusp, planets in the house, the sign and house location of the 11th house ruler, and the house location of natal Uranus (check out the 11th house page and natal Uranus page).
There’s also asteroid Pandora (number 55). We all know the story of Pandora’s box. What’s left when it’s all said and done? Hope. So while having a prominent natal asteroid Pandora can be tricky at times, it can also instill in the native an innate sense of eternal hope that things will always work out. Transits to your asteroid Pandora can bring this out or squash it, depending on the planet and aspect. Where asteroid Pandora is touring in your chart may get a little dose of extra hope, helping you to stick with it a little longer. The sign and house location of your natal asteroid Pandora may also show the areas of life where you strive to always be hopeful (in spite of the drama!).
Here comes 2019! Man, 2018 seems to have really stunk for most people (no joke, like every reading I did this year, people were in a really bad place, and that's not usually the case!). Guess those retrograde, Uranus toying with 2 signs, and the temporary fixed t-square messed with everyone!
Thankfully, those things won't be in play in 2019. There is no Venus or Mars retrograde in 2019, just 3 standard Mercury retrogrades - once in March in Pisces (though that one starts with Mercury at a sensitive point, and is in the same sign as foggy Neptune; it'll also be on the heels of Uranus officially entering Taurus, so that might be a wonky month!), once in July in Cancer and Leo (the last one impacting a fire sign for some time; this retrograde doubles up with the second set of eclipses), and once in November-December in Scorpio (hello stock market wonkiness! we just had a little glimpse of how stocks were impacted by Mercury retrograde in Scorpio for only a week - and next year, Uranus will already be in money-ruling Taurus, so maybe be careful with investments then!).
We'll have 3 planets in home signs next year - Jupiter in Sagittarius, Saturn in Capricorn, and Neptune in Pisces (they're already all in these signs now). This can bring some surprising ease, in a way, to how we deal with the energy each of these planets generate, and we may feel like it's a little easier to expand (Jupiter), progress (Saturn), and intuit (Neptune).
Jupiter will move into Capricorn in December 2019 (there's also a solar eclipse in Capricorn in December), and we'll end the year starting the monster Capricorn stellium as Saturn and Pluto are already in Capricorn. Major surge in ambition, focusing on goals and what we want long-term, how everything comes together and seeing the pieces. Some can reach some great heights, if they've been doing things right, anyway; others may have some long, dangerous falls (you may want to check out the Saturn in Capricorn article HERE).
Uranus flirted with earth sign Taurus this year, but officially enters Taurus March 6th 2019, to stay for almost a decade. Before he goes into Taurus, he'll end a retrograde January 6th at 28 degrees Aries, and will be anaretic for a little bit (29 degrees, a point of crisis energy). Meanwhile Mars enters Aries December 31st 2018, and spends about the first month-and-a-half of 2019 in Aries with Uranus at the end of his time in Aries. And we'll have the first set of eclipses for the year in January, adding fuel. Holy energy, Batman! There may be some major surge to get things done, individually, as a whole, around the world (you can focus this in your own life on the areas of life ruled by the house Uranus is touring). Use it well!
Then Mars will enter Taurus mid-February, and will be in Taurus when Uranus makes the switch, so we'll get energy right away to make the change (you may want to check out the Uranus in Taurus article HERE). Just gotta be mindful of the Mercury retrograde!
In general, 2019 seems like it *should* be easier than 2018 was. But that might be the calm before the storm that will be 2020!
Eclipses! The new year kicks off with the first set of eclipses for 2019 right away, and we have a solar eclipse on January 5th at 8:42PM ET in Capricorn. This is the first of 3 eclipses in Capricorn next year (big for Capricorns!), and we can focus long-term on our goals and ambitions, the directions our lives are going in, and what we want to achieve and succeed. This can play out individually, and we can see it on a global scale.
Capricorn rules governments, institutions, and politics, so we may see important events, decisions, actions with governments in the world, politically (oh yeah we've got a new Congress coming here in the U.S.), and with large institutions or corporations. There may be new roles, new responsibilities, and new visions.
With Capricorn ruling goals, it's the perfect eclipse to start a brand new year, helping us to get focused, get a little disciplined, put together realistic plans, and figure out how we want the year to go. It may not go exactly according to plan, but we can be practical enough to understand that - and make backup plans!
This eclipse is conjunct (aligned with) Saturn in Capricorn, amplifying the Capricorn energy (since Saturn naturally rules Capricorn. It's also sextile (positive aspect, two signs away) Neptune in water sign Pisces, and we can trust our intuition, uncover what's hidden, use imaginations and creativity, and do more for others.
The eclipse occurs at 15 degrees 25 minutes in Capricorn. The aspects to this eclipse are: Conjunction: 10 degrees 25 minutes - 20 degrees 25 minutes Capricorn Semisextile: 13 degrees 25 minutes - 17 degrees 25 minutes Sagittarius or Aquarius Sextile: 10 degrees 25 minutes - 20 degrees 25 minutes Scorpio or Pisces Square: 10 degrees 25 minutes - 20 degrees 25 minutes Aries or Libra Trine: 10 degrees 25 minutes - 20 degrees 25 minutes Taurus or Virgo Quincunx: 13 degrees 25 minutes - 17 degrees 25 minutes Gemini or Leo Opposition: 10 degrees 25 minutes - 20 degrees 25 minutes Cancer
Then comes a lunar eclipse on January 21st at 12:12AM ET in Leo. This will be the last eclipse for a while in Leo, so there may be some finalizing in a way of things that have been shaping up, in development for the last couple of years. Final decisions being made, finishing touches being put on, last chapters being finished before we move on.
With Leo, we can be more affectionate and want more attention and praise. We want to come together in love and play, and enjoy ourselves a little bit before we get too serious. This can be great creative energy, and we can feel quite inspired. We can get in tune with our hearts, and can feel more generous and bring joy.
This eclipse is super early in Leo at 0 degrees, and doesn't make any aspects in-sign, but will be square (hard aspect, three signs away) Uranus in Aries as an out-of-sign aspect (as if it were in previous sign Cancer). So we may struggle a little with some changes, with sudden developments, with having the independence we want, and can be a little rebellious, restless, impulsive. We need to exercise some restraint and stay focused.
The eclipse occurs at 0 degrees 51 minutes in Leo. Aspects for the eclipse are: Conjunction: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 5 degrees 51 minutes Leo Semisextile: 0 degrees 51 minutes - 2 degrees 51 minutes Cancer or Virgo Sextile: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 5 degrees 51 minutes Gemini or Libra Square: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 5 degrees 51 minutes Taurus or Scorpio Trine: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 5 degrees 51 minutes Aries or Sagittarius Quincunx: 0 degrees 51 minutes - 2 degrees 51 minutes Capricorn or Pisces Opposition: 0 degrees 0 minutes - 5 degrees 51 minutes Aquarius
Since the eclipse is so early in Leo, it may also make out-of-sign aspects for you (they're just usually more subtle in impact on you). They are: Conjunction: 25 degrees 51 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Cancer Semisextile: 28 degrees 51 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Gemini or Leo Sextile: 25 degrees 51 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Taurus or Virgo Square: 25 degrees 51 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Aries or Libra Trine: 25 degrees 51 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Scorpio or Pisces Quincunx: 28 degrees 51 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes - Sagittarius or Aquarius Opposition: 25 degrees 51 minutes - 29 degrees 59 minutes Capricorn
