One thing I didn’t realize about this dress is that the seersucker is red and blue. It’s very hard to tell in photos. As a result, it gives the dress a slightly darker pink look. It’s also very easy to dress up or down. In addition to Jacks, it looks just as cute with sneakers or espadrilles.
This picture made me laugh out loud. As you can see below, I had to tie my hair back because it was so windy. I was losing my mind. I hate when my hair is in my face in general but it especially drives me crazy when I’m taking photos. I had no ponytail holder (because I just switched my purse over) and Ashley didn’t either! In desperation, I ripped one of the hanger strap things out of the dress and used it to tie my braid. Felt so much better after that!
I think the dress ran relatively big, especially in the bust… so I’d consider sizing down if you’re smaller on top!
I didn’t intend on having this outfit be completely comprised of my most worn items, but as I went through and reviewed photos, I realized that they are! I wear these things all the time. You’ve probably definitely maybe seen these quite a bit. Not only are they wardrobe staples, I feel my most comfortable while wearing them– together or not.
While I am far (VERY FAR!) from having a capsule collection wardrobe, I have been so much better over the past couple of years of only bringing in items that I feel 100% good in. It makes getting dressed in the morning, and even getting dressed for special occasions and important events, so much easier. I know that no matter what I pull out of my closet, I’m going to be happy with my selection.
It’s not worth buying a top in that you know will be tough to match with bottoms. Or a dress that’s not easy to bend down in. Or jeans that don’t fit just right.
THESE JEANS// I bought these jeans on a whim. It was actually a slight “fashion emergency,” where I was late to my own birthday party unable to get home fast enough to change so I stopped the taxi, walked into the nearest store, bought these on the spot, and walked out wearing them. I did get them hemmed a little bit a few days later, but honestly, they’ve been one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. And an impulse buy at that! The exact wash is sold out, but it’s available in a one that looks very close. They’re so comfortable that I actually prefer them over yoga pants while working from home.
THIS STRIPED SHIRT // Besides jeans, this is 100% my most worn item. I have been styling it for years on my blog and in my personal life, it’s just something I go for all. the. time. I have to say that I am thoroughly impressed with this shirt (which, btw is 50% off today!!!) because I have washed it hundreds of times and it looks just as great as the day that I bought it.
THIS CUFF // This was the souvenir I bought for myself during my first trip to Paris. At the time it seemed like an ungodly amount to spend on a bracelet. It still is quite an expensive splurge but I couldn’t be happier with it. I wear it year round. Dressed up and dressed down. I love how it looks alone and with my diamond tennis bracelet.
THESE RINGS // I love these two rings, on their own and stacked together. The sapphire/diamond was a gift for my birthday and I bought the diamond one myself. They’re quite dainty and add a bit of sparkle without going over the top.
THESE FLATS // While this color is relatively new in my closet, it’s no secret how much I LOVE these ballet flats. They’re so incredibly comfortable and are priced so well for the quality. They hold up– even with frequent wears on unforgiving sidewalks (like NYC).
I tend to reach for dresses quite a bit when I want to look “cute” during the summer. I also have an abundance of dresses. (I have more than enough.) But every summer I find myself realizing that I just don’t have a lot of cute tops, beyond tees– particularly of the striped variety. It’s definitely a “hole” in my wardrobe.
Earlier this summer, I added this embroidered flutter sleeve top into my repertoire and I’ve gotten so many great uses out of it already. While I think it looks particularly good with white jeans (the pop!), sometimes dark denim is the easiest way to go. I wore this exact outfit to a backyard barbecue where I knew I’d be a) eating standing up, b) chasing some kids around the grass, c) sitting on the ground. Jeans are also my go-to when I’m too lazy to shave my legs
Ashley and I took these photos together during our stay at The Wauwinet! They have a private beach that was just calling our names. And with a picture-perfect blue sky, it was a great day to spend some time by the ocean.
I didn’t want to let this weekend pass without sharing some of the amazing sales going on right now. Growing up, we almost always did our back to school shopping right after the Fourth of July. (We also started school the first week of August ) While I hate that retailers start bringing out the fall items….. it is a great time to stock up on summer pieces to use for the next couple of months and/or file away for next summer.
I am OBSESSED with this slip dress. I was kind of intimidated with wearing one because I feared I wasn’t cool enough. However, when I received this one I realized just how versatile this is and it can work with all kinds of personal style. I’ve seen it online with a white button up underneath, nude stilettos, and a branded belt cinched at the waist (hence my intimidation!)… but it also works for me and how I’d want to wear it.
I took a style cue from my friend Blair and went tossed a stipe shirt on top. At home, I also tried the shirt over the dress with a knot to crop it tight against my waist and also tied at the waist like a sweatshirt with sneaks. I loved how all three options looked completely different, with the same core items.
Since the dress is not really silk, it actually wears so well. Silk can be finicky and wrinkles easily. I love that I don’t have to treat it with kid gloves while wearing it. (It also allows the dress to be uber affordable at under $30!)
Life has been pretty crazy over here in the best possible way. But I swear on busy days I find myself reaching for my tried and true neutrals that I have in my closet. I know it’s boring and far from groundbreaking but walking out the door feeling good no matter what the day brings is what I’ve been craving.
And I just have to call attention to these shoes yet again. They are so good. Like walk miles in the city with no blisters or foot pain. I think they may just become my favorite and most-worn shoes of the summer. They aren’t the cheapest shoe but the quality is so high for the price and you’ll reach for them again and again.
