Hiring a cleaner can go a long way towards a harmonious home.. Hiring one to suit your needs will surely make life sparkle!

For a busy household a professional clean is no longer seen as a luxury. However, doing the job well takes time, typically your cleaner will need up to around 4 hours a week. You might even have two cleaners sharing the job and both will need to enter your house.

McCreery Contract Cleaning understand that for customers and especially those who commute, they might have a difficult time letting someone in to clean their home weekly because of the practicalities.

This is where Jennifer McCreery has come up with a solution to suit these customers. Jennifer suggests rather than have one or two cleaners entering your home each week, that you should consider a deep clean every couple of months.

This involves a more thorough cleaning operation when the cleaners are in and it also means you won’t have to worry about letting anybody into your home on a weekly basis.

Coming home knowing your house has been cleaned to perfection will allow you to relax as soon you get in the door. Those who have a busy schedule will have the time to spend with their families, and friends rather than worrying about house chores.

This Deep Clean option will leave every corner of your home looking the best it’s ever been. McCreery Contract Cleaning arrange tailored housing maintenance packages that suit you and your home.

A cleaning expert will also discuss your cleaning needs with you when you first contact them and will put together a bespoke package specially designed for you. This leading Kilkenny based company are always willing to work around the clients schedule to ensure their customers experience is the best it can be.

Their expert team can also talk to you about any add on services you may require such as:

  • Window Cleaning
  • Oven Cleaning
  • Ironing Services
  • Carpet Cleaning
  • Gardening Services

Using the best possible products, McCreery Contract Cleaning guarantee the highest quality of service the cleaning business can provide. Best of all, the products are all environmentally friendly as well!

With the current balmy temperatures set to carry on into September we wanted to share some of our top summer ready cleaning tips to ensure that you are set for the months ahead.

Garden Makeover

Summer is the season of barbeques, garden parties, al fresco dining and watching sunsets with a tall drink! Get those gardens and outdoor spaces looking their best for the summer. Clearing the guttering is a must for summer along with weeding, sharpening the lawn edges and cutting back on overgrowth. Dust off the patio furniture and add a splash of colour to the garden with bright bedding plants. Give your outdoors a little make over with cushions, bunting and lanterns. Check out our outdoor maintenance service if you need a little helping hand.

Chill out!

Make way for lots of ice-cream and ice-pops – time to defrost. Ideally you should defrost the freezer when there is more than 1cm of ice built up. A household item for more than 120 years, the fridge-freezer should be defrosted regularly to keep it in good working order. Even if you have an automatic this is a good exercise to keeping everything fresh and clean.

  1. Switch off the fridge, and leave the door open.
  2. Take all the food out and store it in cooler bags, a neighbour’s fridge or a cold room.
  3. Take out any removable shelves and give them a wash – hot soapy water works best.
  4. Lay out old towels or sheets and wait for the ice to melt.
  5. Clean the fridge thoroughly, again with hot soapy water. Replace the shelves and restock for summer.

Top Tip: Use a halved lemon in your fridge to free it of foul odours!

Lighten up!

Summer is here! Give your living spaces a refresh with a few seasonal changes. Fresh cut flowers, lighter, brighter throw-cushions along with a few new accessories in gorgeous pastel shades will give a new lease of life to your home. Tidy away your winter wardrobe and ask yourself, ‘Does it suit me? Does it fit? Do I love it?’ If the answer is no, it’s time to part ways. Ask the children to fill a box each of toys and games that they no longer play with. Charity shops will appreciate the contribution. You’ll feel lighter with less ‘stuff’!

Be BBQ Ready:

We will all indulge in the odd beef burger or chicken skewer over the summer! Here’s how to get yourselves BBQ ready.

  1. The bake-off method – Add some fresh coals to the barbeque light them and allow it to reach a high temperature. Close the lid. 10 to 15 minutes at full heat. The heat will ‘bake-off’ any leftover burnt-on food and melt away grease and grime.
  2. Be sure to allow the barbeque to cool. For best results use a steel brush to remove any remaining debris.
  3. Next, clean the grill with an old clean cloth, hot soapy water and lots of elbow grease. Wipe the lid and exterior with hot soapy water too. Dry it with kitchen towel and it’s burger-flippers at the ready – happy cooking!

**Do check the manufacturers’ instructions first as all barbeques are different.

Summer is a really busy time of year for us but we have been enjoying the sunshine with our recent introduction of ‘Heat Wave’ hours, where some staff members can start earlier and finish earlier in time to soak up some sun and spend time with their families. Isn’t that what life is all about?

If you’d like The Cleaning Concierge to handle any of your household chores, why not give us a call for a no obligations quote, we look forward to hearing from you.

We’ve been in business for almost 20 years. Having grown from a small company with a handful of staff to now employing over 70 people, we know that our biggest asset is the team that we have built. It is very gratifying to be in a position to create employment. We couldn’t do it without the hardworking and dedicated people who liaise with our corporate and domestic clients on a daily bases.

As both McCreery Contract Cleaning and The Cleaning Concierge continue to grow, having had a bumper 2018 to date, we are always looking to expand our team. Here are some benefits of working with The Cleaning Concierge, or indeed engaging then to work for you.

Professional Qualifications:

All of our cleaners are professionally and specially trained. When you join our team you will receive training to the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) standards.  Each team member holds a certificate in cleaning from the Institute and we are the only cleaning company in the South East that is qualified to train people to this standard. This is a professional organisation and your skills are valued as are you as a professional operative.  All staff members will also be given the opportunity, if they wish, to upskill and train for different departments within the company.

Multicultural Team:

We celebrate all types of diversity in our team. We are particularly proud to say that The Cleaning Concierge and McCreery Contract Cleaning have over 12 different nationalities among our staff including Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Romanian, Brazilian, Irish and British. This brings such rich and varied cultural influences into the workplace and in turn makes it a really inclusive environment to work in. We would love to hear from any applicant who is prepared to work hard as part of that team.

Our GoGreen policy:

We use only all-natural products to clean homes and we don’t introduce any unnecessary chemicals.  This protects your health while you work. We were shocked by recent reports in the news on the damage caused by harsh chemicals, which could be the equivalent of smoking 20 cigarettes a day. Thankfully we have held our ‘GoGreen’ policy for many years so not only are our cleaning products tough on dirt but kind to staff and customers alike.

 ‘Heat-wave hours’:

We listen to our team members and work with them to ensure that our professional relationship works for both of us. Yes, this is a place of work and we do expect very high standards for our clients. Having said that, we know that family, friends and enjoying life is what’s important in life. The work/life balance is important for our clients and likewise for our team. Recently Ireland experienced an unprecedented ‘heat-wave’ and in response to staff requests we switched from regular hours to ‘heat-wave hours’ – allowing team member to work from 6am to 3pm, giving them time to also enjoy the sunshine with their families. This works well for many of our corporate clients too.

Other benefits of working with The Cleaning Concierge include:
  • Garda Vetting
  • Good rates of pay
  • All materials provided
  • Uniforms provided
  • Four weeks of paid leave plus bank holidays
  • Working for an ever expanding company
Would you like to join our team?

We have several vacancies for permanent cleaning positions available. There are also seasonal cleaners needed during the busy summer months. We are asking both men and women who are interested in joining our team to please email your application to: info@mccreerycleaning.ie

We are hearty enjoying the current heatwave but it does raise the question of employee wellbeing. Working six to three doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as nine to five, but what does Dolly Parton know about the cleaning industry? Time never stands still for us at The Cleaning Concierge, so we’ve replaced ‘summer time’ with ‘heatwave time’.

With the recent heatwave that has swept the country, we decided to take a leaf out of English Manager Gareth Southgate’s book who has been praised for his family centred approach to managing players and their wellbeing. Our team work incredibly hard and they are very conscientious. Their wellbeing is important to us so following consultation with the team and new working hours have been introduced to accommodate them and their families.

Our team felt that given the current weather, beginning the working day at 6 AM up until 3 PM would work best for both them and their families. At this time of year, a lot of schools are being cleaned so it suits our clients and employees. Employees get to go home to their families earlier while being able to avoid working in the heat. This gives them the flexibility to pick up kids from summer camps and enjoy the school holidays with them more.

Studies have found that in businesses where companies emphasise compassion, employee satisfaction is higher, and employee turnover is lower as loyalty is fostered so it’s win-win for us and our team.

At The Cleaning Concierge, we realise that our employees are our most valuable asset. It is our duty to ensure the best possible environment for them to work especially during these summer days. Of course, they can wear shorts but must wear safety boots and we’re supplying gallons of bottled water!

Would you like to join our team?

We have several vacancies for permanent cleaning positions available. There are also seasonal cleaners needed ahead of the busy summer period. We are asking both men and women who are interested in joining our team to please email your application to: info@mccreerycleaning.ie

We are having a very busy third year! We’ve seen amongst our clients that people really do see the value in having their homes cleaned professionally. People are working very long days, sometimes leaving the house at 7.30 am and maybe not back until 6 or 7.30 pm – this leaves very little time to cook meals, manage the family and the household maintenance.  We have seen a huge spike in demand for our home cleaning services. This frees up quality time to spend with family, friends and take a break from work.

Additional Cleaning Services

We are always asking our customers how we can improve our services and in line with your feedback we have added some extra services. Along with our ‘deep cleaning’ and ‘regular maintenance’ packages, clients can avail of garden maintenance and outdoor cleaning with our ‘reach and wash’ window system and professional guttering maintenance.

New Ironing Services

Popular among professionals the new ironing service includes pick-up of the items, ironing and delivery of the wrinkle-free and expertly hung and folded clothing and linens. Knowing what pressures people are facing nowadays, we hope that these new services will help to achieve more balance for families.

Happy Birthday to The Cleaning Concierge!

Now in our third year the home cleaning division of McCreery Contract Cleaning, we’re bringing all the latest technology, specialist equipment, environmentally friendly products and staff training to our home cleaning service.

Our mission is to give time-poor professionals the freedom to spend their leisure time with friends and family instead of on laborious house cleaning. Our dedicated home cleaning team will treat your home as if it were their own and remember all McCreery Contract Cleaning  staff are Garda vetted, fully insured and each one holds a certificate from the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc).

When considering hiring a professional cleaner, many people ask themselves ‘is it worth the money?’ We see clients, friends and family trying their best to have a career and run a household. It’s a challenge. For some having a cleaner is a necessity to achieve balance for the family and get quality time for themselves.

Should you go pro? This is a consideration that each family needs to make however there are some clear benefits and cost savers for those that decide to hire a professional.

Benefits of a hiring a professional cleaner:
  • At The Cleaning Concierge a bespoke cleaning plan is arranged with each customer, including a range of services from an initial ‘deep clean’ to regular maintenance cleaning plans individually tailored to the client’s needs.
  • The family home is cleaned properly, professionally, and consistently, every time. We will assign an individual cleaner to your home, the same person every week who will get to know just how you like things done.
  • We supply all of our own cleaning products and the latest professional equipment to deliver the best results every time. The Cleaning Concierge has an Eco-friendly cleaning policy. Our products are tough on dirt but kind to your home and family.
  • Our cleaners are Garda vetted and fully insured so you can have peace of mind when having your home cleaned.
  • And of course, a sparklingly clean home carried out by highly trained professionals. Each member of our cleaning crews is trained to the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) qualification and The Cleaning Concierge is the only accredited trainer to this standard in the South East.
Advice from Jennifer McCreery

Jennifer McCreery, our Managing Director has been offering professional cleaning services for nearly 20 years for both corporate and domestic clients. This is Jennifer’s advice.

People are working very long days leaving the house at 7.30 am and maybe not back until 6.30 pm – Time is precious and more and more people see the value in having their homes cleaned by professionals. This frees up quality time to spend with family, friends and taking a break from work. I advise people to look at their own situation and ask themselves, how much do I earn and how much does a cleaner cost? Is the cost worth it for me and my family to achieve a better quality of work life balance? It won’t be for everyone but for some it’s a must.

Many customers come to us as they know we have a discreet, trusted team, fully trained, Garda vetted and insured. For me, there is nothing like coming home to a beautifully clean home. It’s like a fairy has been in with a magic wand and I can get on with living.

Professional Cleaning Services

We always recommend that new clients start with the deep cleaning service; this will make an enormous difference to the home. It’s a completely fresh start, getting into awkward corners and hard to reach areas of the house. A cleaning plan is then created with each customer including a wide range of services for example ovens, carpets, windows and bathrooms. This will keep your home looking its best and feeling pristine.

If you would like to chat to us about professional cleaning, contact one of our team today for a no-obligation quote and to discuss your cleaning needs.

Did you know there is a new recycling list for Ireland? Do you know what’s on it? If you are like most of our clients, here at The Cleaning Concierge, the new legislation is a little confusing. Never fear; we’re here to clear it up! (Pun intended!)

Most of us do our best to separate out the plastics and paper from the regular household waste and don’t give a second thought to what happens to any of it once the collection agency has picked it up.

Recycled waste is actually big business! The Irish Waste Management Association (IWMA) reports a combined turnover, of its members, of €645 million annually, the bulk of this waste is recycling.

Ireland sells recycled materials such as paper, cardboard and plastic on the global market. China and India are our best customers. You might remember earlier this year when 160 containers of Irish recycled waste, bound for a paper mill in China, was rejected as it was contaminated. To get the best value the materials need to be cleaned and sorted.

What goes in the recycle bin?

The list is simple but the items must be clean. One contaminated item in the bin can affect all of the items and render the whole lot unsaleable. So…here’s the list:

Rigid Plastics

The hard plastic bottles and tubs that you use on a daily basis, including water and cola bottles, plastic milk bottles and plastic detergent bottles, yoghurt, spreads and salad tubs, fruit and veg trays and shampoo/shower gel bottles. Plastic wrapping and netting cannot be included in your recycling.

Tins and Cans

All aluminium and tin cans for pet food, soup, soda cans, chopped tomatoes, baked beans and the like!

Paper and Cardboard

Paper and cardboard make up nearly 24 per cent of waste in a household bin. This includes letters and those pesky unsolicited brochures! Also flat packed cardboard boxes for example, cereal boxes but not pizza boxes as these will have melted cheese and grease marks on them. Egg boxes, toilet and kitchen roll inserts, newspapers and Tetra Pak juice or milk cartons also go into the recycling.

What’s not on the list?
  • Coffee Cups – It is a surprise to most people to learn that coffee cups are not fully recyclable.
  • Soft Plastics – We do not currently have the technology to recycle carrier bags, refuse sack and plastic wrappers.
  • Paper Towels / Napkins – These items are not suitable but you can put them in your compost bin.

What about glass?

Glass is 100% recyclable. However, glass does not go in the recycle bin. Please take glass to your local recycle centre – There are several around Kilkenny and here’s a hand list from Kilkenny County Council.

Some facts about recycling!
  • You can make a bicycle out of 650 recycled aluminium cans.
  • Each ton of recycled paper can save 17 trees and 7,000 gallons of water.
  • 35% of the wood harvested worldwide is used to make paper products.
  • It is possible to recycle one sheet of printer paper up to 7 times.
  • Plastic drinking bottles can be recycled into duvet fillings, home insulation material, clothing, bin liners, carrier bags, DVD and video game cases, compost bins, park benches, new bottles and much more!
  • If you recycle 1 aluminium can today, it can be made into a new can, get filled and be back on the shelf in just 6 weeks.
  • It takes up to 500 years for plastic to decompose.

For more information, check out: www.recyclinglistireland.ie

We can all agree that recycling is the right thing to do to preserve a brighter and greener future for the next generation. As part of our ongoing cleaning maintenance packages our highly skilled and dedicated team members are happy to help you tackle the recycling.

We assign one team-member to your home so that you’ll see a familiar face every week.  They’ll get to know how you like things done and you’ll get the exact cleaning service that you want including washing, drying and sorting your recycling and making sure the right thing goes in the right bin!

The Easter mid-term break has started. For parents across Ireland that means playdates, Easter camps and generally trying to keep the children entertained for next two weeks. Whilst we all look forward to a bit of family time over the Bank Holiday Weekend, Easter can be messy!

We’re sharing our top-five cleaning hacks to help parents survive the Easter break and keep their homes sparkling clean.

Chocolate Staines

It’s bound to happen – little chocolate fingers on clothes, curtains and sofas! Here’s how to handle it. Scrape off any hard chocolate. (Pop the fabric into the freezer to harden the chocolate if needed.) Rinse with cold water then with a stain remover or washing up liquid rub the stain in a circular motion. After 10 minutes rinse again.

Sticky Situation

Most children love sticker books however usually the stickers end up everywhere but the book! Use a fragrant essential oil to loosen the glue and peel the stickers right off. This leaves your surface clean and sweet smelling too.

Gravy spills

We love a traditional roast at Easter with lamb and all the trimmings but when accidents occur, the quicker you take action the better the results. Mix a half teaspoon of washing up liquid (as they have a good de-greaser built in) with a cup of warm water and sponge the mixture on the stain – but do not rub. Wash the cloth as usual.

Crayon on the Wall

When the little ones are inspired to create a mural this slightly odd hack works a treat. Spray a little WD-40 onto the marks and wipe with a clean cloth. WD-40 will not damage paint or most wallpaper. You must test the area first. Alternatively use non-gel toothpaste, the tiny abrasive beads in the toothpaste will rub away the crayon every time!

Naturally Clean Cooker

Clean the oven with products from the cupboard – baking soda, vinegar and lemon juice. Ensure that the oven is completely cool and remove heavy dirt. Generously sprinkle baking soda on the oven and using a spray bottle, spritz the baking soda with vinegar and watch it bubble up. Rest for at least 4 hours and wipe away with a textured sponge. If any residue is left, simply use clean water with a dash of lemon to wipe clean.

Happy Easter!

The Cleaning Concierge offers affordable regular cleaning packages.  A bespoke cleaning plan is arranged with each customer from an initial ‘deep clean’ to regular maintenance cleaning plans individually tailored to the client’s needs.
