Life goes by fast. Enjoy it. Calm down. It's all funny. Next. Everyone gets so upset about the wrong things.
- Joan Rivers
Good old Joan Rivers. Nailed it as usual, god rest her. Everyone's been in a right flap lately. Me? I've been enjoying a time-out with my family, just taking care of the essentials. Having said that, I've put aside the odd moment or two to try out a few new beauty bits and bobs, pick up a book or two and catch up on my podcast listening. Here's what I've been up to lately.
My spring skincare refresh (featuring Dermalogica)
I'm not really a winter person. Which isn't a problem unless you're a.) Irish and b.) live in Ireland where winter rumbles on for a good, solid six months of the year.
I've been in a self-imposed hibernation since last October and am just about ready to step out into spring. My skin, on the other hand, is not quite ready so I've been working hard behind the scenes to bring some life back into my lacklustre complexion.
With that in mind, here's my top skincare tips for spring.
Charlotte Tilbury, it's been a while...
Charlotte Tilbury, it's been a while... so for that I must apologise. It's still one of my all-time favourite brands and I still reach for the Instant Look In A Palette every day. But even I can get a bit distracted by shiny, new brands.
But I've fallen back in love with Charlotte of late, namely because of her beautiful new Brightening Youth Glow. Here's the skinny on it...
Yves Saint Laurent Spring 2018
In another lifetime, I like to imagine I was a French lady-in-waiting, quaffing macarons and doused in the finest French perfume. In this lifetime, however, I have to make do with a little Yves Saint Laurent to brighten up my Irish grey day (which is not so bad, admittedly).
Natural anti-ageing with Kinvara Skincare
Whether we like it or not, some of the best anti-ageing products on the market are made by white-coated boffins in labs. However, if you'd like to avoid synthetic products and are looking for a natural alternative, there is hope.
Irish brand Kinvara Skincare has taken the best that nature has to offer for anti-ageing and delivered some seriously great beauty products that rival synthetic ones. Packed with plant extracts, Kinvara's products are some of the highest quality on the market. And best of all, Kinvara is homegrown and Irish. Hoorah!
Why you should unleash your inner vamp this Valentines
I’m pale. And interesting. Okay, okay, I’m pale and reasonably interesting. Being pale, however, gets a bad rap in the mainstream media where sunkissed lovelies are favoured over us more ghostly types.
Admittedly, it’s taken me literally decades to embrace my pastiness. Here’s all the reasons I’ve rejected being pale for most of my life.
Clarins Spring 2018
After what could only be described as the longest, greyest, rainiest January in Irish history, spring is finally in sight. And with it comes birdsong, blossoms and sunshine! Okay, okay, it'll probably be more grey rain but at least we have some new releases to look forward to. First out of the blocks is Clarins with its gorgeous new collection of primers and make-up.
Getting my gym face on (featuring CliniqueFit) I talk a good gym. A reformed cardio bunny, I'm all HiiT this, reps that and burpees the other - you'd swear I had a clue what I was withering on about. But when it comes to what I put apply to my face before I hit (HiiT?) the gym, now you're talking! Yes, I am one of those silly girls who wears make-up to work out. Not a full face of slap, mind you, but enough to make me look semi-human. Without make-up, I'm ghostly pale. I'd imagine I'd be escorted off the premises after putting other gym-goers off with my deathly pallor. So really, I'm doing my local gym a service by wearing a bit of blush.
How to take a great portrait photograph
I don't like having my photograph taken. I know shocking, right? Despite the hundreds of selfies I have taken over the years, I am still uncomfortable with the process.
When I started the blog, I deliberated over whether or not to publish my picture. It's not that there is anything wrong with me per say but I'm acutely aware that I'm a 38-year-old mum with age concerns rather than a hot, young influencer-type.
