A friend who is a highly spiritual being asked me if the inspiration for his drawings are a form of communication from spirit. My answer is that all creativity comes from the universal source of consciousness through spirit. We are given creative gifts because it is part of our spiritual journey through this lifetime and holds some purpose for us or humanity.Whether you are a writer, painter, inventor, etc. your creativity originated from beyond the human mind. For example, one can learn to write or paint but one cannot lean to be inspired. Those words and images are channeled through energy from source, through spirit to human consciousness. Someone with little or no experience in mechanical engineering can conceive a machine that will revolutionize human tasks. Not because the concept was learned through human interaction but because it was given by spirit. Every inspiration has its time and is a necessary part of the human journey. Some creations hold a message or purpose only for the inspired individual. Others are meant to impact either a segment or all of humanity in some form. Human ego leads many to deny the spiritual origin of a concept, seeking instead to take sole credit as a greater mind. The mind is nothing more than a vehicle to learn and process human activities and emotions. Without a soul and it’s connection to universal energy and spirit, the mind is limited to the human knowledge it is taught. That knowledge cannot create, it can only repeat.
If life were defined by numeric values of names or birth dates, your path would be clear. Anyone capable of simple math would know your direction. It is not. They do not. There are dozens of calendars being used in the world today by many cultures. There are also many alphabets and numeric systems in use across the world. They all have one thing in common, they were all created by humans at some point in time. Some ancient cultures did not use written language or keep dates with calendars. Yet some of those cultures were the most highly connected spiritually. Why? Because understanding your direction in life does not come from numeric values of names, numbers on calendars or alignment of planets. Your direction is based on who you are, what your soul planned for this lifetime and your willingness to discover yourself as a spiritual being. The spiritual nature of your being transcends human desires and greed. But only if you allow it to. Living your life by the numbers is a trap that is easy to fall into. When you seek external blame for internal shortcomings, the cycle of self-judgement never ends. Those who sell you a definition of your life based on numbers are luring you into that trap, because misery enjoys company. You can avoid the trap by understanding the spiritual value of connection with your higher self, spirit guides, natural elements and the universe. Your soul already knows all. Your human self is only allowed to know what you are ready for. Readiness is based on knowing and understanding your role in the universe, learning, living and sharing compassion, allowing spiritual needs to take precedence over human desires and discovering inner peace that is not found in anything created by humans.
Spirituality and positivity are not synonymous. Spirituality and reality are.
I have encountered some people who are on a journey of awakening and have saddled themselves with the responsibility of trying to always remain positive. Being calm, enlightened and positive are common traits of someone who is awakening spiritually. However, sometimes the darkness of negativity in this world must be pointed out and contrasted with the light of love. Trying to remain positive at all times is at best, naive and at worst, denial. Shedding light on the darkness is keeping it real.
Let’s face it, there are a lot of negative people in this world. They tend to hide their dark actions beneath words that seem positive on the surface. A true seeker of light will recognize the hypocrisy and have a desire to illuminate the darkness. Perhaps this concept is best expressed with a quote by Martin Luther King, Jr. “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.”
Dr. King was the king of keeping it real. While his words were generally positive, he often used those words to shed light on the darkness in society. I believe Dr. king was a highly spiritual being, who demonstrated that being conscious and aware are a necessary part of living a positive, spiritual lifestyle.
Positivity and negativity both contribute to authenticity. I therefore submit that to achieve the highest state of awakening, one should strive not to be exclusively positive but to be compassionate and positively real.
This morning’s full moon is once again amplifying the direction we choose to follow. Universal, spiritual and personal changes are manifesting in every aspect of our lives. What we embrace is what we become. Humanity is polarizing and at times like this full moon, we feel the pull even more than usual. Which direction are you going? What do you believe? What do you know? Are you seeking difficult truths or settling for convenient lies? It is all up to your free will choices. If you are uncomfortable with your direction, you can blame other people, evil spirits, past lives, astrology and numerology, or you can take responsibility for your spiritual direction. Who do you want to be? What you are to a corporation, government or religion does not define who you are. What you are is easily defined by those around you. Who you are is demonstrated by what you share from your loving, compassionate soul and cannot be defined by others. Be the change you wish to see in the world. - Unknown
Grief is the process of expressing a perceived loss of love through human emotions. You may be asking why I use the word “perceived” in my definition. It is because that love is never lost. Love is the singular feeling we take with us from life through passing and back again. There is a quote from the movie “Ghost” that describes this continuation of love: “It's amazing, Molly. The love inside, you take it with you.” We only grieve those who shared a loving connection with us. Most people grieve the loss of love without understanding that loving connection is still there. That love and your connection with it can be felt if you trust yourself to believe it and allow yourself to feel it. The progression from a system of beliefs in various man made religions to an individual connection with your loved ones is part of a spiritual awakening.Spirituality is not religion. Your spiritual connection with the souls of those you are closest to is as individual as your grief process. If you believe in that connection and trust that your loved ones will guide you, the journey through grief is much more profound and spiritual. Allowing yourself to awaken, becoming who you were meant to be and taking back responsibility for your own spirituality is the key to discovering hope and healing. This article is a brief summary of some of the spiritual concepts explained in my second book “From Grief to Awakening: Discover Hope and Healing in Your Own Spirituality.”
What is metaphysical money? It is money made from one’s metaphysical gifts, or using the gifts of others to make money for yourself. We all have metaphysical gifts to some extent. Some people grow those gifts, while others suppress them. Some people use their metaphysical gifts primarily to help others. Some people use their gifts primarily to make money. The former walk the walk of spirituality awakening. The latter only talk the talk. The difference is in the motivation. How do you determine the difference? Ask yourself these this question: Do I need to do this because I want more money, or do I want to do this because I need to help others? If your answer is the former, you were lost on your spiritual path. If your answer is the latter, your gifts are serving a higher purpose. The only spiritual currency is love. Love for all is shared through your energy. Connecting spiritually with oneself and universal energy has always been a part of us. The energy and connection have always existed, the concept of money has not. People and cultures for thousands of years have lived highly spiritual and connected lives. Those people didn’t need money to spend on crystals, sprays, cards, pendulums and chemically manufactured oils. The most highly connected cultures discovered themselves through nature and the elements.Your metaphysical gifts should serve a higher purpose and the greater good. Fame and fortune do not serve the greater good, they pull you away from it. It has been said that the love of money is the root of all evil. That statement is a misnomer because one cannot love money. One can desire money on a human level, along with the material possessions and human comforts it brings, but that is not love. The most direct path to spiritual fulfillment I know of is to give of yourself without expectation. When you remove the expectation, it relieves your anxiety and places your feet squarely in the present and moving toward your spiritual path. That path will lead you to fulfillment and ultimately, inner peace.I leave you with one question to ask yourself. If there were no such thing as money, who would you be?
One question I am often asked is how to determine the difference between impulsive action and gut feeling. Impulsive behavior and spiritual gut feeling are two different things. One feeds human desires for simple pleasures of these senses and the other nourishes the souls need to follow your spiritual path. This is not the case of a distinction without a difference, it is truly two different things.Decisions and actions based on impulsive behavior are usually rooted in ego and driven by negative emotions, resulting in physical or emotional harm to yourself or others. That harm can be instant or gradual. Some broad examples of non-spiritual impulsive behaviors are pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, sloth and addiction. None of those behaviors will lead you to a highly spiritual path.Decisions and actions based on your gut feeling, also called gut instinct, are guidance from your higher self and spirit guides. It is called a gut feeling because you feel it in your gut. That feeling is your solar plexus chakra relaying energetic guidance from your higher self to your human self. When you are doing something that just feels right with the universe, the solar plexus chakra gives you a sense of peace and calm. When your choice is detrimental to your spiritual path, or emotionally and physically harmful to your self or others, the solar plexus chakra gives you a sense of discomfort and turmoil. That turmoil is often temporarily overcome by vices, leaving even more spiritual discomfort to reconcile later.Your higher self will never steer you wrong and will always lead you to the path of greater good. Impulsive human behavior will create many road blocks and detours along your spiritual path. Attachment to the past and fear of the future will influence your choices and can be easily confused with gut feelings. One method of distinguishing between gut feelings and impulsive behavior is to find a relaxed setting and calm your emotions. Then ask yourself the troubling question for which you seek direction. Consider only one possible decision and its potential ramifications first. Does that decision bring you peace and calm or discomfort and turmoil? Now consider the opposing decision and feel the difference in your solar plexus chakra, or gut feeling. You must remove the influence of all vices from this process, or the results may not be in the best interests of your spiritual self. Practicing this technique can bring you more ease in making decisions that affect your spiritual path and help lead you toward a life journey of fulfillment and inner peace.
The term “soul contact” has become more prevalent in metaphysical circles lately. For a fee, you can attend a class and learn how to “break” soul contracts that are to blame for the woes in your life. As with many who offer spiritual and metaphysical advice, the key is in the fee. The universal parameters our physical lives are subject to are not written on paper. They are not limited to, or governed by the human mind. The agreements made by our souls, with the universe and our soul families transcend the human experience. Nothing we do as humans is outside the bounds of those agreements or universal parameters. The belief that we as humans can make or break a soul contract is borne of human thought and rooted in blame, fear, ego and control. Those roots are a human attachment to a a fruitless tree. Blame is the primary emotion behind the concept of soul contracts. People who think they are lacking something in their lives, tend to ignore spiritual shortcomings and seek something or someone to blame. The soul contract fills that bill. It is easy to blame the difficulties of life on a “contract” made with another soul or the universe. Shifting blame away from the true cause can temporarily ease the mind but it will not bring spiritual peace. Fear feeds the blame game. Fear of the future, fear of judgement and fear of the unknown bring anxiety and you guessed it, the need shift blame. Fear is the emotion most commonly used in motivating people to spend money on goods or services that are not in their own best interests. Ego is the driving force that ties it all together. Ego is behind the shifting of blame away from ourselves. Ego is behind the fears and most of all, ego pushes people to control their spiritual awakening.Control is the tool used to implement the desires that blame, fear and ego deem appropriate. The whole concept of soul contracts is about the human mind taking control of the energetic connections of our souls. Spiritual awakening is not about taking control of your soul. Spiritual awakening is about releasing control. So what is the answer? Intentions. Every aspect of your spiritual awakening and ascension to a higher state of being begins with your intentions. Some people who perceive success with breaking soul contracts have really just changed their intentions. All the classes, crystals and cards in the world are useless tools without intentions of light and love. If you understand that life is an experience of the soul and set your intentions to walk a path of light and love, with compassion for all, while giving of yourself without expectation, you will understand that those tools are unnecessary.Final thoughts. What about animals? Every living being is the embodiment of a soul, just the same as as humans. Are animals prohibited from the concept of breaking soul contracts, because they have no money or classrooms?Beware of those who would take the fruits of your labor with only false promises in return.
It is inside you, inside everyone, ready to be shared. Those who love, do so because they ARE love and they choose to share a part of themselves. Love isn’t just for others, it is for yourself. Treat others as you would want them to treat you but also treat yourself as you would want others to treat you. You are a loving soul, using a body and mind to experience this amazing journey we call life. That love is what you were born with, regardless of the country, culture or religion your physical being was brought to. In ancient times before borders, before religion and before cultural division, there was love. We can still share that love because it hasn’t changed. Love isn’t just within us, it surrounds us. Embracing that love within and sharing it with all is a conscious choice of the mind to follow the soul and lead the body. Worldly division by race, religion, culture and borders leaves us with two choices of the mind. Exacerbate with hate or rise above with love.
This is a simple question with a complex answer. Intention, lifestyle and beliefs are all at the root of a spiritual awakening and discovering your metaphysical gifts.First and foremost, what is your intention? Why do you want to awaken? Fame and fortune or fulfillment and peace? Pursuit of the former will prevent the latter. You can fool many people but you cannot fool spirit. They know your intentions. If your intentions are to give of yourself without expectation and help others, you will be given what is needed to accomplish your objective and guided to a path that leads to fulfillment and peace. If your intentions are to achieve fame and fortune from your metaphysical gifts, you may be given enough to accomplish that objective, at the expense of fulfillment and peace. Is your lifestyle conducive to awakening and self discovery? Spiritual awakening is a body, mind and soul experience. Nourish your body, expand your mind, follow your soul. Your body is the vehicle for this journey, your mind is the driver and your soul gives the directions.Everything you consume either nourishes your body or poisons it. Mother Earth provides nourishment necessary for a healthy mind and body. Processing and chemicals either poison what nature provides, or provide an unhealthy substitute.Every thought that crosses your mind, either contributes to or detracts from your spiritual journey. The behavior you allow those thoughts to push you toward will determine your path on that journey. All negative emotions are learned human behaviors. Those learned behaviors are limiting factors in a spiritual awakening. Some examples of negative emotions and learned behavior: Ego, fear, greed, hate and intolerance. What are your beliefs? Religious, social and political beliefs are an indicator of where you are in the awakening process. That which serves the greater good, shows compassion for all humanity, respects Mother Earth and honors your soul, is an awakened belief.Religion and politics are intent on controlling the masses through a system of fear and reward. Both play upon human societal beliefs, prejudices and imaginary borders to divide, conquer and control. Those who slumber are much more easily controlled than those who are awake. Understanding that religion and spirituality are two different things is one of the most important steps in awakening. Knowing that all politics are an illusion used to divide the masses through ego is another necessary step. It is no coincidence that both religion and politics use parades and processions to worship man made symbols, while taking the fruits of your labor and using tightly controlled gatherings to promote a faux unity. Each downplays the teachings of their original leaders in favor of beliefs that unite only those who share their controlling beliefs. Religion, politics and government depend upon you resisting your own spiritual awakening and instead, embracing their substitute. You don’t need them to awaken yourself but they need you to remain asleep and contribute to their control.Accepting that all living creatures were created as part of the circle of life, not to serve humankind, is yet another step toward awakening. Treating every fellow human as an equal in the human experience, regardless of skin color, geographical origin or opposing beliefs is one more giant leap in the awakening process.Awareness of these intentions, lifestyle and beliefs is not awakening. Teaching others about awakening is not in itself awakening. Truly believing and living those beliefs is how you move toward awakening. When you awaken to the knowing of who you are as a loving soul and begin learning your higher purpose here, you will no longer wonder why people do the things they do. You will understand it is part of their journey and not everyone is meant to awaken at this time and in this place.
