In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, there is only a bunch of crazy weirdos running around, fighting aliens, collecting crazy gear, and trying to get to Level 10 first. Steve Jackson Games has announced a partnership with Games Workshop to bring you Munchkin: Warhammer 40,000.
From the post:
Steve Jackson Games and Games Workshop announce the biggest, back-stabbiest, most loot-filled heavy-weapons bonanza of the year: Munchkin Warhammer 40,000, coming in 2019 to a game store near you!
Since the original Munchkin card game hit the market in 2001, the Munchkin brand has sold over 9 million games and accessories worldwide. Warhammer 40,000, now in its eighth edition, is one of the longest-lasting classic games of miniatures combat. Now these two popular games are merging into a storm of carnage and weirdness guaranteed to satisfy armies of gamers.
As with all Munchkin games, Munchkin Warhammer 40,000 will combine easily with the rest of the extensive Munchkin line, including Munchkin Zombies, Star Munchkin, and Munchkin itself.
Munchkin Warhammer 40,000 is illustrated by principal Munchkin artist (and extreme Warhammer fanboy) John Kovalic, and designed by Munchkin Line Editor Andrew Hackard, in consultation with Games Workshop.
“I have never seen a game store without a Warhammer 40,000 section,” said Hackard. “It’s a pleasure to get to play around in a setting that has such a rich history and so many dedicated fans around the world!”
Munchkin Warhammer 40,000 will launch in 2019 in our premiere Deluxe format ($29.95), followed by two 112-card expansions ($19.95) later the same year. That’s almost 400 cards of explosive Munchkin Warhammer fun!
Go! Go! Power Rangers! *rocking guitar solo*
One of the most-popular kids shows for years, the Power Rangers will soon be heading to your tabletops, complements of Renegade Game Studios. They’ve announced Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid. Just remember that too much pink energy is dangerous.
From the announcement:
Evil is coming…
In Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid, up to 5 players become Power Rangers to battle the forces of darkness using martial arts, teamwork, and giant assault vehicles (known as zords)!
Included in the core game experience are brutal enemies like Rita Repulsa, Pudgy Pig, Madame Woe, and relentless swarms of Putty Patrollers all for the Mighty Morphin’ team to tackle!
Along with all the awesome Star Wars stuff that Fantasy Flight has announced, there’s a quartet of Runewars releases now available. There’s something for everyone, with a release for each faction. So if you’ve been wanting something new, now’s your chance.
From the website:
The great factions of Terrinoth take to the battlefield in Runewars Miniatures Game! In the heart of the twelve baronies, the Daqan Lords use the tactical prowess of their noble knights to defend the realm. To the north, the forces of Waiqar the Undying rise from the mists, exploiting their enemies’ fear for their advantage. In the southern reaches, the Latari leave the safety of the Aymhelin, calling upon their master warriors to defend their ancient home. And in the Ru Steppes, the Uthuk Y’llan come back from the edge of extinction with a vengeance, using blood magic to gain the blessing of the Ynfernael as they go to war.
No matter which faction you align with, no matter who you believe is worthy to rule Terrinoth, today you gain new soldiers to aid your cause! Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce that the Darnati Warriors Unit Expansion, Wraiths Unit Expansion, Outland Scouts Unit Expansion, and Kethra A’laak Hero Expansion are on sale now at your local retailer and online through our website!
With Gen Con on, a lot of companies are having sales. That includes Crocodile Games. Just head over to their website and pick up some minis for cheaper than you’d usually have to spend.
From the announcement:
Today is the first day of GenCon Indy, and Croc Games will be there! If you are coming to the convention, you can find us at booth #3041 (we are sharing with Pulp Figures again). We’ll have all of the miniatures available from our Olympus Kickstarter, including the Amazon cavalry, the latest Demigods, and all the new monsters (Hydra, Harpies, and Cyclopes!) and some great specials for each day of the show. Stop by and say ‘Hi!’
Online Store Sale
But wait, some of you are saying you can’t make it to GenCon. If your cruel work overlords won’t let you take the day off, we’ve got you covered with our amazing 4-day sale! All items in the Croc online store are on sale, for the next 4 days! There are 3 different coupon codes, the more you spend, the bigger discount – just use the one appropriate for your order total.
On the subject of shipping – we get a lot of questions about shipping costs calculated by our online store. Because our shipping is calculated by weight, sometimes the shipping total on large orders ends up seeming a bit high. Fear not! Once orders are packed, if the total shipping charged is more than $1.99 than the actual cost of postage, we will refund the difference.
It’s Friday, and many of you up in Indianapolis, enjoying Gen Con. Remember, if you are there, do the “Gen Con 3, 2, 1”. Every 24 hours, get at least: 3 hours of sleep, 2 meals, and 1 shower. Remember, those are minimums. Increase totals as required. And have some snacks on hand. I like to snack on bite-sized gaming stories.
Today on the platter we have: New Orlock Weapon Upgrades Available From Forge World, Fantastical Sub-Saharan Miniatures Kickstarter Relaunched by Deraj Studios, and New Statuesque Heroic Scale Female Heads NARROW – Berets on sale at 10% off.
Assemble an Orlock gang to use in games of Necromunda: Underhive and furnish them with the latest in powerful weaponry with this bundle. You’ll receive 10 plastic miniatures and 2 sets of 16 resin weapons to upgrade them with
Deraj Studios is producing a line of true 32mm miniatures from a fantastical version of the Sub-Sahara. The eventual purpose of these miniatures is for use in their in-development skirmish game, Portals: Worlds Collide. In the meantime, they’re an excellent choice of miniatures for your favorite flavor of pen & paper roleplaying game, as well as in games of Frostgrave, Kings of War, Open Combat and a variety of other ‘minis-agnostic’ games in the 28mm-32mm scale.
Statuesque Miniatures is pleased to announce the release of Heroic Scale Female Heads NARROW – Berets, rounding out the Heroic Scale NARROW range to match the choices available in other sizes.
The Heroic Scale Female Heads NARROW – Berets set, featuring fetching military-style berets, is designed to allow you to convert your heroic scale miniatures.
Whereas the SMA301-307 Heroic Scale range is great for converting male heroic scale figures such as heavily armoured space knights or troopers in fatigues and body armour, the Heroic Scale Female Heads NARROW – Berets set is designed specifically for converting female heroic scale figures, or more slight heroic scale figures in general.
SMA353 Heroic Scale Female Heads NARROW – Berets is available as a New Release Special Offer for only £4.25, saving over 10%.
Don’t forget to check out the comparison photos on my blog for various test conversion using all sizes of Statuesque Female Heads.
This offer will run until Sunday 12th of August, or while stocks last.
Part of me wanted to channel the Star Wars Holiday Special and have the opening to this story be nothing but grunts, hoots, roars, and howls, but I eventually decided against it. Instead, I’ll just let you know that Fantasy Flight has announced a pair of wookie releases for Star Wars: Legion. One’s the Wookie Warriors unit, and the other is the most-famous wookie there is, (oooooooooooh) Chewbacca! (What a wookie!)
Within the Wookiee Warriors Unit Expansion, Rebel generals will find everything they need to add a group of Wookiees to their army as a special forces unit. Four unpainted, easily assembled miniatures show the Wookiees charging into the fray, brandishing their Ryyk Blades. In the same expansion, you’ll find five unique upgrade cards to prepare the Wookiee Warriors for whatever they may face on the battlefield.
The Wookiee Warriors Unit Expansion will release alongside the Chewbacca Operative Expansion in the fourth quarter of 2018, giving you the chance to bring Kashyyyk’s finest to the battles of the Galactic Civil War as they play out on your tabletop.
Inside the Chewbacca Operative Expansion, you’ll find everything you need to add Chewbacca to your Rebel army. A single unpainted, easily assembled miniature depicts Chewbacca roaring into battle, his trusty bowcaster at the ready. Three upgrade cards provide more tools for preparing Chewbacca and your other units for battle, and three command cards can add more variety to your hand, allowing Chewbacca to team up with the three Rebel commanders.
Releasing alongside the Wookiee Warriors Unit Expansion, you’ll be able to bring your own detachment of mighty Wookiees to the battlefields of the Galactic Civil War late in the fourth quarter of 2018.
I love abstract puzzle games. Ask me to name my favorite board game and I’ll tell you that it’s Blokus. So seeing a new one making its way to American shores, I’m intrigued. Passtally is a big hit over in Japan, and now Pandasaurus will be bringing it over to an English-speaking audience. Players place tiles in order to create pathways, but you can stack the tiles, creating new routes over existing ones.
From the website:
Passtally is one of those rare games that is a snap to teach and learn but holds staggering depth and nuanced decision making and strategy. Players compete by strategically placing titles in the hopes of creating the cleverest connecting route, which is far from easy. Titles can be stacked to alter existing routes and add victory or chaos to existing structures. The higher the stack, the greater the points for that tile—just make sure the points are only belong to you!
As you continue, the game becomes increasingly visually striking as the colors stack and combine. How high can you stack?!
Those of you that are up in Indy get a chance to pick up the newest releases before the rest of us do. Those that stop by the Cryptozoic booth, for example, have a chance to get the DC Deck-Building Game‘s latest pack, the Crisis Expansion Pack 4. It adds new cooperative play, as well as Unity cards. Take a look for yourself.
From the announcement:
Cryptozoic Entertainment, leading creator of board games, trading cards, and physical and digital collectibles, and Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC Entertainment, today announced the limited release of DC Deck-Building Game: Crisis Expansion Pack 4 at Gen Con, August 2-5, followed by a full retail release on August 8. The expansion can be added to any game in the popular DC Deck-Building Game series to introduce cooperative play, Unity cards that can combine for powerful effects, and Personal Crisis cards that directly affect the owner of the card.
“Personal Crises are a new twist we wanted to explore after the world-altering Crises of the previous three expansions,” explained Matt Dunn, the game’s lead designer. “DC’s Teen Titans stories have always explored the relationships as much as crime-fighting, and that is reflected in the up-close-and-personal nature of the Crisis effects in this set.”
In the expansion, the keyword “Unity” is found on several Ongoing cards. When a Unity card is played, the player gains the benefit of that card, as well as well the benefits of any other Unity cards that are already in play. Therefore, gameplay rewards teamwork, as players can take advantage of each other’s Unity cards.
The set’s Personal Crisis cards cause Ongoing detrimental effects that impact individual members of the team, frequently hampering them in some way. Despite being targeted at one player, Personal Crises can end up taking down the whole team by depleting the main deck. The other players can help a player overcome a Personal Crisis, underlining again that teamwork is the key to victory.
Though the game works with any DC Deck-Building Game base set, it is optimized to work with DC Deck-Building Game: Teen Titans. It features Crisis versions of eight DC Teen Titans Super Heroes and comes with six DC Super Hero cards based on the Titans, original members of the Teen Titans who are all grown up: Arsenal, Donna Troy, Nightwing, Omen, Tempest, and The Flash.
DC Deck-Building Game: Crisis Expansion Pack 4 will be available in limited quantities at Cryptozoic’s Booth #601 at Gen Con before hitting retailers nationwide August 8 for a suggested retail price of $20.
Steamforged is looking to become “The company that makes games based on popular video game series” it seems. Obviously, there’s nothing wrong with that (though the last video game I played regularly was FFXII, so I’m totally out of the loop about these properties). They’ve got Dark Souls. They’ve got Resident Evil. Now they’re headed to Horizon Zero Dawn. They’ve announced a new board game based on it, as well as shown off a pair of mini renders.
From the announcement:
Steamforged Games is proud to announce we will be working with Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe and Guerrilla, developing an exciting board game for the Horizon Zero Dawn™ universe. Building on the success of previous titles including “Dark Souls™: The Board Game”, “Dark Souls™: The Card Game”, “Resident Evil™ 2: The Board Game”, “Godtear”, and “Guild Ball”, Steamforged Games will be launching this latest game, “Horizon Zero Dawn™: The Board Game” via Kickstarter soon.
Steamforged has a proven track record of bringing triple-A video game licenses to life as board and card games with intensely thematic and faithful experiences for the fans and players. We take immense pride in working with amazing game properties to create dynamic and powerful board and card experiences in the physical game space.
With the new edition of the X-Wing Miniatures Game coming, the Resistance and the New Order are breaking off into their own factions. No longer simply part of the Rebels and the Imperials, respectively, these new factions are in need of a bit of a leg-up in defining what makes them unique and not just a sub-set of a previously larger set of ships. Fantasy Flight has new Conversion Kits coming that’ll help you sort that all out. Also, a new Scum & Villainy variant of the TIE is up for preview.
The Empire may be gone, but its shadow still looms large across the galaxy. As X-Wing™ Second Edition ushers in a new era of starfighter combat in the Star Wars galaxy, the pilots of the Resistance aim to rekindle hope as they carry on the legacy of the Rebel Alliance. Fantasy Flight Games is happy to announce four Resistance expansion packs of Wave II for X-Wing Second Edition!
Rising from the ashes of the Galactic Empire, the First Order stands poised to usher in a new era of galactic dominance. Soon, its starfighters will enter the intense space battles of the Star Wars galaxy. Fantasy Flight Games is excited to announce three First Order expansions of Wave II for X-Wing™ Second Edition:
First Order Conversion Kit
TIE/fo Fighter Expansion Pack
First Order Maneuver Dial Upgrade Kit
Fantasy Flight Games is happy to announce the Mining Guild TIE Expansion Pack as part of Wave II for X-Wing™ Second Edition!
The original TIE/ln design has served as the basis for countless variations serving many purposes, even those outside of Imperial demands. Thanks to their close collaboration with the Empire, the Mining Guild has access to state-of-the-art Sienar Fleet Systems technology, including their own version of this iconic starfighter. The result is a unique take on the TIE design, ideally suited for the Mining Guild’s operations and unlocking new tactical opportunities for your Scum and Villainy squadrons.
