As of October 17, 2018 cannabis will be legalized in Canada and Supreme Security wants to make sure your kids will be safe during this transition and for the years to come.
A few things to note:
The minimum age for cannabis will be aligned with Alberta’s legal drinking and smoking age 18+.
The AGLC will manage wholesale and distribution. Licensed growers will be strictly regulated by the federal government.
Privately run cannabis stores will sell cannabis and accessories under strict regulations. The AGLC will operate online sales.
Smoking and vaping will be restricted in areas frequented by kids, and in other public places where smoking is prohibited.
Albertans will be able to grow up to 4 plants per household.
Adults can possess up to 30 grams of legally produced cannabis in public. Those under 18 can’t possess, purchase or use cannabis.
Cannabis consumption will not be allowed in vehicles. Penalties will be the same as alcohol-impaired driving.
Impairment in workplaces
Alberta is reviewing all existing regulations and programs to ensure rules continue to address impairment risk.
Federal restrictions to be placed on advertising and promotion of cannabis, particularly to minors.
Some provinces are considering putting the same laws in effect for cannabis as gun laws. Others have the laws similar to alcohol. Whatever it may be, there are a few things you can add to your security system to ensure the protection of your children.
Keep it in a locked cabinet with a tilt sensor – this will ensure that every time it is opened you will receive a notification
Shock sensors on any windows in the room you are keeping it in – this is great if anyone starts to try to break the window, it will sense the shock and sound an alarm
Window/Door contacts – if anyone opens the door, or tries to slide your window open, it will set off the alarm system
Bars on the windows of the room it is located in – this way if anyone tries to break into the room with excessive force, the bars will either stop them, or sound an alarm to warn you
Install a surveillance system to keep an eye on everything while you’re away

Your garage is a very important part of your home; holds your vehicles, boats, ATV’s, Dirt Bikes, Tools, it can be your man cave, your workplace, your storage.
With all of these valuable items in your garage, why is it so commonly overlooked when considering security?
It costs too much money: In the last few years, a lot of security products have comedown in price. The cost to install contacts, motions, etc. is much cheaper now than ever before. If you got a quote to protect your garage a few years ago, give us a call again as you may be surprised at the cost!
Garage is too far away: Recently DSC came out with their best range wireless devices – DSC NEO. It allows communication up to 2 miles away! If you have failed to have your needs met by asecurity company before, give us a call and we would be happy to keep everything protected for you.
It doesn’t affect my Insurance: Most insurance companies will give you a discount simply by having a security system installed in your home. Lately we have noticed an increased number insurance companies requesting monitored Smoke and Heat detectors inside an attached garage to keep their insurance contracts valid. It is always best to call your insurance company to make sure that have the coverage that you need.
I enter through my garage: Most people have their keypads at the front door, so if they come through the garage it can take longer than the 30-60 seconds to reach the keypad and disarm the system. If this was your hold back, don’t worry! Most products now offer a cell phone app – so you can turn off your system when you’re close to home. Or, we can supply a key fob to disarm the system before you pull up to the garage.
I park my car outside: The security world is growing and expanding every day. If you park your car outside, your garage and are worried about having your home protected, but your car and garage unarmed, that’s okay! We’ve got your garage and driveway covered with motion and camera options. Most systems even come with a partition we can activate allowing individual zone control! This way, you can arm both, or select the one you’d like to arm/disarm.
If you have any questions or concerns, give us a call so we can help keep ALL of your valuables protected.
Gone are the days of leaving your house unlocked, or your car running while you grab something you forgot in your home. Unfortunately, Calgary and the surrounding areas are noticing that no community is a safe community any more. The crime rates are increasing every year for Calgary and the surrounding rural areas.
In August 2017, Avenue magazine rated Hamptons Calgary’s safest community. However, it ranked #42 in the overall best neighbourhoods list. The Calgary Police Crime Map shows that during the same dates as Avenue Calgary’s list, there was 48 reported Thefts/Robberies in the Hamptons Community and 307 for Forest Lawn.
Forest Lawn has had a bad reputation for a long time, but the community came in at 33 in the overall Best Neighbourhoods list. So, when it comes to ranking the best communities in Calgary – best doesn’t mean safest.
What can you do?
Always keep your doors and windows locked whenever you’re not at home
Remove your hide away keys, or place them in a very unusual spot
Never keep your car running with the doors unlocked
Keep your garage door opener on you at all times when you are away from home – never leave it in the car
Don’t answer the door to someone you don’t know – unless you see their company logo and they can show you ID
If you’re going away, consider having a friend or neighbour check in orhire someone to make your house appear “lived in”
Watch out for any suspicious activity, and report it to your community police officer
Statistics have shown that homes without a security system are more likely to be broken into by 300%. Intruders will usually try to determine if a home is protected or not before making their move. Around 60% said that they would look for another home after realizing that their first target has an active alarm system.
Installing cameras can add even more protection, as it is said that they can deter burglars up to an extra 40%. If they still decide that your home is a good target, camera footage can assist greatly in apprehension of the intruder.
DON’T WAIT TO SEE IF YOU’RE THE NEXT TARGET, CALL TODAY AND GET PROTECTION
Sick and tired of service calls because your internet went down? Or maybe your landline provider doesn’t keep up with proper maintenance on your line? When it comes to rural areas you might worry that protecting your home or business may be a bit of a challenge.
Supreme Security recommends our out of town customers have a GSM/Cellular Backup Module to keep their communication path active without needing to rely on the traditional options.
WHAT IS A GSM?
A GSM (Global System for Mobiles) is a module that can be installed in almost any security system. It has a phone number programmed into it, and whenever you use your security system it transmits the wireless signal to our monitoring station through nearby cell phone towers. Since this communication path is through cell towers, it doesn’t matter if you have a landline, or internet, as this will always send a signal, no matter what.
If you ever fear that your security system may lose its communication path, give us a call and we would be happy to help set you up.
Supreme Security has an in-house service department to help our customers stay safe, and to keep money in their pockets. We understand how frustrating it can be to need a service call when the business only operates during normal working hours. This can cost you lost wages, on top of the service call fees.
We can help with things like:
Keeping an eye on your system and call whenever we see something amiss like low batteries, false alarms from devices, systems not communicating properly, etc.
Assist with activating internet/landline/GSM
Upload/download your panel
Power down a system, disable/enable devices
Talk you through how to change a battery on all devices
Update your key holders and user codes for you
Remotely disarm/arm your system
Inform you when a product needs changing or updated
Troubleshooting, technical support
Surveillance setting adjustments
Troubleshoot automation connections
AND MUCH MORE!

When it comes to online reviews, we understand that a single bad review feels equivalent to having a brick thrown through your store window. Small, medium and large business are all affected by online reviews. If you’ve ever written or read a review, then you already know the value of getting other people’s honest comments about their experience with a company or product you’re considering.
An honest and truthful review lets you know when other consumers have had a positive or negative experience with a product or service. This information can help guide you to make an informed decision.
How do you know if it’s real?
Unfortunately in the online world, it can be difficult to spot fake information. Whether it be the news, weather, or photographs, we are now in a world where you constantly second guess the information. Add in companies hiring people to create fake accounts and pose as consumers to increase their ratings, and lower their competitors, it can just seem overwhelming.
Thankfully with new programs out there like TrustPilot, and Yelp’s review algorithm to spot these fake accounts, and help ensure that you are seeing a real review. It’s also a good idea to check where the review is being posted from. If you are looking at a local company and someone from overseas or down in the USA posts a review about the company, then you can assume that this review could be fake, or they have the wrong company. Another thing to monitor is the consistency of the reviews, fake reviews will look noticeably different when compared to the real ones.
Usually good products and services will have contestant high ratings, even though there are always customers who have negative experiences. When you see a negative review online, a good company will usually take action by replying to the unhappy customer, offering assistance, or requesting the customer to contact them to resolve the issue. This is a sign of a company that cares about providing great customer service!
For consumers shopping for a home security system or other products and services, online review sites are a helpful tool for making an informed decision before buying.
Supreme Security values our online reviews and encourages our customers to keep writing them!
