Yes, today. Not tomorrow, not next week or next month. Life is way too short to feel unmotivated and not live the life you were meant to lead.
While you might think you need to learn how to get motivated have you ever thought how your habits impact your motivation levels?
Motivation makes things happen initially but habits keep them going. It’s hard to be motivated every second of every single day. Somedays you might not get enough sleep, have a bad day at work or have something else come up.
But if you can change some habits in your life it will make it MUCH easier to get motivated and stay motivated! As Jim Rohn said, “Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.”
Here are 5 ways to get motivated and start taking action in your life!
1.) Change Your Physiology
As Tony Robbins says, “Motion creates emotion.” Sometimes you just need to get moving to get motivated. There’s a reason you feel so good after a tough workout or morning run. When you exercise your body releases a chemical called BDNF.
As Mental Health Daily defines “BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) is considered an important protein that influences brain function as well as the peripheral nervous system.” This is just a really smart way to say that exercise helps your mind as much as it does your body.
The next time you’re feeling unmotivated stand-up, take a walk, do some pushups, or do something physical. Your physiology has a huge impact on your motivation levels!
2.) Set Goals In All Areas of Life
One of the easiest ways to learn how to get motivated is to start setting goals in every area of your life! Goals give you direction and something to work towards every day. I’m a firm believer in the Tony Robbins quote, “Progress equals happiness.”
If you don’t have goals you probably don’t feel like you are progressing and might feel stuck. But you aren’t stuck. That is just a story that you keep telling yourself. Your mind made the story up and you keep thinking about it over and over again. Instead of letting your negative mind run your day, let your goals run the day!
Make Your Goals Serve a Purpose
Goal setting is crucial but if they aren’t relevant and serving a purpose it will be easy to ignore them. Instead, make your goals super personal and interesting to you. Create empowering goals that will make a difference in your personal or professional life.
Share Your Goals (With at Least One Person)
Choosing to keep your goals to yourself is a bad idea. As a result, you have no accountability and no one to help you achieve them. I firmly believe that you should share your goals with the world or at least a few people.
This will do several things:
Increases your accountability. No one wants to let someone down
Affirm them to yourself. When you speak your goals it resonates differently than just writing or reading them.
Get help from others. When you announce your goals to people others might have resources or connection to help you achieve them.
Review Your Goals Twice Per Day
Setting goals are great but if you set them and forget about them you’ll almost never make them happen. Each morning and night spend 2-3 minutes and read or affirm your goals out loud. Also, think about what it will feel like when they get accomplished. Think how you will have to grow as a person to make them happen.
This will help your brain understand that these goals are a priority in your life. Remember humans are goal-seeking organisms, your mind wants to help you but you need to give it direction. Because without direction your brain won’t know what to focus on.
Celebrate Your Wins
Get in the habit of celebrating when you complete any sized goal. Reward yourself for your hard work and achievement!
This will give you the motivation to set more goals in the future and lets your brain know that you are rewarded for your achievement.
3.)Surround Yourself with Winners
I’ve always said it’s hard to do epic things with average people. As Tim Ferriss famously said,
You are the average of the five people you associate with most, so do not underestimate the effects of your pessimistic, unambitious, or disorganized friends. If someone isn’t making you stronger, they’re making you weaker.”
Ask yourself…are you friends helping or hurting you?
Because… if you spend time consistently with friends that are dragging you down or living a life you don’t want anymore you must be willing to change. You can do this a few different ways without hurting feelings.
Ask them to change and let them know how you are trying to change.
Stop hanging out slowly and see if they contact you.
Find people who are striving for greatness, don’t waste your time with negative, pessimistic or depressing people.
If you want to learn how to get motivated quit spending time with anyone who drains your energy! Your friends should motivate, inspire, and cheer you on as you pursue your goals.
4.) Clean Up Your Environment
If you’re feeling like the motivation isn’t there in your life look around at your environment. Are you feeling unmotivated or is your life just messy? A dirty, disorganized, and cluttered house or desk can have a huge effect on your motivation levels.
As Benjamin Hardy said in the book, Willpower Doesn’t Work, “Who you are is a product of your self-image and your self-image is based on your environment. Change your environment and you can change everything.”
A clean, tidy work or home environment can make you feel organized, motivated and ready to take on any challenge.

5.) Create an Empowering Morning Routine
Your morning routine is how you get motivated each day for every aspect of life!
If you win the morning you win the day, simple as that. Studies have shown that if you want to start a new habit doing it in the morning greatly increase the chances of you achieving it!
Often times you might feel unmotivated because you are too busy and start each day rushed. That can happen if you are constantly sleeping in!
To stay motivated you need to own your mornings. The routine or rituals will be different for everyone! Personally, I dedicate at least one hour to my morning routine. My morning rituals are my “reboot” to start each day with maximum energy and motivation.
While an hour might not be possible for everyone, even 10 minutes is SO much better than nothing. It could be sitting alone with a cup of coffee, simply observing your thoughts. Or taking a walk, exercising or reading. It’s about staying away from technology and starting your day with self-discipline. Plus, getting up early gives you time to review your goals, plan for the day, and spend extra time with friends and family.
Way too many people don’t feel like waking up early is worth it but I can say that it’s 100% changed my life!

How to Get Motivated to Work Out
Now that you’ve set goals and started owning your mornings you won’t have to keep questioning how to get motivated to work out? You have already set yourself up for success! But, there are a few more ways to help you get motivated to work out:
If you plan on working out the next morning before work plan ahead by laying out your clothes, snacks, and water. Make it effortless so you essentially roll out of bed and into your gym shoes. If you go after work have everything in the car so you don’t’ skip out.
Also, know what you are going to workout, and how long you will be there. Planning = consistency!
Get an Accountability Partner
Like other goals, I recommend NOT going after your fitness goals alone. Accountability can play a huge role in making sure you get up AND show up. Try to find a workout buddy with similar goals or find a co-worker who you commute with. As a result, you will be much less likely to skip an early workout.
But if you need more motivation to workout you can also join an expensive gym or schedule a trainer for FORCED ACCOUNTABILITY. If you see money being charged every month it will help you get motivated and make some progress!
How to Get Motivated to Lose Weight
If you’re struggling with losing weight know that you’re not alone. An accountability partner is helpful but make sure to also let your family and friends know. The more support you can have the better!
Track Your Progress
Another way to get motivated to lose weight is to track your goals! As Peter Drucker said, “If you can’t measure it you can’t manage it.” Again, progress equals happiness!
If your goal is to lose 20 pounds and you lose 4 or 5 pounds this can give you a huge momentum boost.
Use a fitness app like my “My Fitness Pal” or a simple note on your phone to track your weight regularly.
Get Motivated Today

How to Be Successful in Life: 5 Simple Ways
1.) Create an Empowering Morning & Evening Routine

If you want to learn how to be successful in life the first thing to do is create a morning routine.
After reading countless personal development books I learned people like Tony Robbins, Oprah, and Bill Gates all have empowering morning rituals. Here’s how you can start:
Start With a Night Time Routine
A good morning routine starts the night before. One of my mentors, Benjamin Hardy, taught me that Benjamin taught me that successful people intentionally direct their subconscious before bed. The use a nighttime routine to help them with problems before going to sleep.
As Thomas Edison said,“Never go to sleep without a request to your subconscious.”
Start by spending 5–10 minutes with a journal to think about what you are trying to accomplish. Write out three wins for the day to help you feel accomplished and proud of your day. Then, look at your goals and ask some questions about why you are struggling to achieve them.
Instead of thinking of your problems, write out the problem and several questions asking for answers. This will give your subconscious mind something to work on while I sleep.
Lastly, write out some of your goals as already being completed.
For example, instead of saying you want to be a professional athlete, write “I am a professional golfer on the PGA Tour.” Then visualize for a few minutes each of these dreams as already completed. This will give yourself a positive visual image before going to bed.
This was exact opposite process of what most people do before bed. Most people go to sleep worrying about the future instead of dreaming about it in a positive way.
Negative thoughts, especially at night, are poison for your mind and goals. Go to bed dreaming about your dream future. Imagine how it will all look, feel, and be when you reach your biggest goals.
Wake Up With Purpose
Instead of waking up without a plan dedicate your mornings to being all about YOU. Start by writing in a journal for 5-10 minutes. Write out, in detail, what it will be like when you accomplish specific goals. Be as detailed as you can. Read these statements out loud to affirm them to yourself.
If you have a vision board you can also look at this and imagine your goals as completed. This helps give my subconscious mind a clear image of what you are trying to achieve. I usually do this after 10–15 minutes of using the “Primed Mind” app or daily meditation.
2.) Your Journal is How to Be Successful in Life
A journal is simple but so beneficial in helping you learn how to be successful in life. I learned all of these tricks from Benjamin Hardy’s Journal Mastery Course.
Last year after reading and hearing the importance of a journal from nearly everyone I decided to give it a try. The only problem was that I had no clue what I was supposed to write about. Somedays it was a recap of the day, other entries were how I was feeling, and sometimes it was just random thoughts. While I still got some value, once I learned how to structure my journal writing I finally began to see results.
By writing in your journal each morning you are able to tap into your subconscious as the fog is still clearing from your conscious brain. Instead of aimlessly writing I spend 10–15 minutes each morning brain dumping:
I write about 2–3 things I’m really grateful for in my life.
Review and write my goals and vision.
Detail my goals as already completed. Write out the specific details and bring in other senses of the goal becoming accomplished.
Journaling will help reframe your subconscious and reshape your identity by using it as a vehicle to consciously create your intended future.

3.) Set Bigger Goals
The best part of getting up early is that it allows you extra time to focus on yourself and your goals. It’s a time for you be proactive instead of reactive in designing your future. The problem is that most people use a SMART goal setting system, which emphasizes on making goals “realistic.”
Don’t waste your time on “realistic” goals, instead 10x them. If your goal is to earn $100,000 in the next 12 months why not add a zero and make $1,000,000?
You might think it sounds crazy and I did too. But once I watched a video from Dan Sullivan, I began to understand the power of the 10X’ing your goals.
As Dan said in this video, “It’s a lot easier to go 10x on your goals instead of 2x.” By choosing to 10X your goals you will gain intellectual engagement and emotional commitment. Once you are committed your brain will act as a filter and get rid of anything that is unnecessary to your goal by delegating or deleting it.
By going 10X instead of 2X you create a totally different mindset to operate from. In order to achieve your goals, you need to set big goals and focus on them every day.
4.) Reshape Your Environment
After reading “Willpower Doesn’t Work” which says most self-improvement books have it all wrong. Most books preach about discipline and willpower to achieve your goals. While those are needed, you also need to change your environment to shift everything else.
As Benjamin Hardy said in his book, “Environmental design is different. It’s about creating conditions that make your success inevitable. For example, if you want to be focused at work, you need to remove all distractions from your physical and digital workspace. If you want to eat healthy, remove all of the unhealthy foods from your house. If you want to get creative insights, get out of town and relax for a day or two.”
Willpower fades but your environment can always be changed to help you reach your goals. And it’s worked amazing. I’ve reshaped my environment by decluttering, cleaning, and removing anything that doesn’t give a feeling of success. This may seem too easy but start by cleaning your desk or closet and you’ll notice a significant change.

5.) Always Invest In Yourself
As Warren Buffett said, “The greatest investment you can make is in yourself.”
Spend money on yourself, your mind, and your self-education. There’s a psychology behind investing in yourself too. It’s a principle known as “sunk cost fallacy.” The term tends to have a negative connotation because you are overvaluing something (i.e. relationship or business) and continue to stay with it when it’s clearly not working.
But as Benjamin Hardy said in Willpower Doesn’t Work “Sunk cost doesn’t always have to be a bad thing. Actually, you can leverage this human tendency to your benefit.”
By investing in yourself you put skin the game. You are telling your brain what is important and what is a priority. Whether it’s spending money on a coach, trainer, mastermind, or event, it will help you speed up success.

If you want to learn how to be successful in life start using these five tips. Success and achievement of your goals will only come from getting outside your comfort zone. Since I left the corporate world and started blogging full time I realize how lucky we are to live in today’s world.
Thanks to the internet it has never been easier to make money outside of work — sorry 9 to 5! With apps, social media, and the gig economy it has never been easier to make money outside of your job. A lot of these are one-off jobs but are quick and easy ways to make money quickly.
They also didn’t exist a decade ago.
Some of them, however, have the potential to make you more than your full-time job with consistent effort and hard work. I’ve been using these strategies to make over $1,000 a month with my best month being $1,600 in September.
Will all of these money making ideas work for everyone? Is it easy to make money outside of your job? Sometimes but not always. Hopefully, they get you thinking of ways to monetize the skills you already have.
When you earn more money outside of work you can pay down debt, save, invest, and give yourself more options.

Do you like putting together furniture from Ikea? Well, I’m not sure anyone “likes it” but some people are much better than others. It’s not just furniture installation there are tons of “tasks” available:

Grocery Shop For People
Instacart is a way to grocery shop for people and get paid to do it. I personally love grocery shopping, some people hate it so this is easy money. You can apply to be a shopper, delivery driver, or both.
Temp Staffing @ Events
Another great way to earn money is signing up for events where they need temporary staff. Think about conferences, sporting events and take a look on Craigslist to learn more.
I will say I did this in the past and it was a weird experience but I did make close to $500 after six or seven visits. Usually, you have to do a quick physical and then you donate plasma like you do with blood. In my experience, I was paid with Visa gift cards.
Again kind of weird but paid well, avoid this side hustle if you don’t like needles or blood.
I recently signed up for a few website testing services and can say it is super easy. All you do is test websites as your screen is recorded and talk into your microphone.
I recently started using Upwork to start my freelance writing career. There is a ton of different options other than freelance writing.
Be aware they do take 20% but they do connect you with a ton of potential clients.
Swagbucks has a feature where you can watch online videos to earn money from your house. If you sign up you will also get $5 credit, get started now.
Sell a Course
You can create paid courses easily with Teachable or Udemy. I’ve personally created a FREE course with Teachable and currently creating a paid one as well.
Udemy is another option to create paid courses, I have only used as a student but loved the courses.
Set Up Websites
If you already use WordPress and know about installing themes you can charge well over $100 to set up for small businesses. The entire setup won’t take you more than 15-30 minutes using Bluehost to setup and install WordPress.
Sell Books and E-books
I’ve now published two books using Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing. One book, Advice For My Younger Self, is also available in hard copy format from Createspace.
These books aren’t crazy long or require years of hard work. By creating short, how to guides or manuals you can create these relatively quickly and earn royalties for the rest of your life. Check out my post on 10 steps to creating your first e-book to learn more.
Start a Blog
People make a ton of money online and most of them usually started with a blog. I started publishing income reports this year to show people how I make money blogging.
If you want to set your future self up to potentially make money outside of your job at an enormous scale I recommend a blog. This is not a short-term game like some of the other hustles listed.

I make a few hundred dollars each month through affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is when an online retailer will pay you a commission for traffic or sales leads from its referrals. It’s not as simple as slapping some pictures or links and seeing the money roll in. You need to refer readers to quality products that you believe in.

When you have a blog you can offer paid posts or product reviews for products you believe in. These can range in price but I’ve seen anywhere from $50 – $200 per post. The best part? You don’t have to write it.
You can also post advertising on your site with a ton of different platforms like Google Adsense, Media.net, or Adthrive. The more views you get to your blog the more advertising revenue you can earn every month.
Once you create a successful blog, companies will reach out to partner with you and promote their product or website on your blog. This can be big money!

If you’ve ever started a blog you understand how attached you can become after working on it for so many hours. After reading about “Budgets Are Sexy blog” being sold for over a million dollars know that it is possible!
Create a Youtube Channel
When you create a Youtube channel you also have the ability to make money outside of your job with unlimited potential. Here two popular ways:

Virtual assistants are growing each year with more people needing help managing their business or website. Make sure to know what your niche is and start making money from your house!
People always want to learn new skills quickly. If you have skills in anything you can become a coach in person or online.
You can coach people in person for athletics, music, fitness, or photography. Whatever you are great at and have passion for you can teach!

Instagram has been growing at an incredible rate and has a ton of opportunity to make money. Work on building a following with consistent posting, great hashtags, and responding to your followers.
Here are a few ways you can monetize your Instagram:
Brands will pay you to promote their products in front of your audience. A good way to get on brands radar is tagging them in your posts.
Unlike a sponsored post an affiliate will be more invested in making sales for a particular brand in exchange for a commission. You will usually do this with a trackable link or unique promo code.
Do you take great photos or think others would love the photos you are already taking? There are a ton of websites and apps that will help monetize your photo skills:
Amazon has created a service to help you create products and sell products with their advanced fulfillment networks. There are more upfront costs as you have to buy the product (usually from China) but there is an unbelievable amount of potential.
Start An Etsy Store
Etsy is another great way to make money with an online store. It also is a great way to channel your passion into creating something you love and sharing with others. By setting up an Etsy shop you will able to sell much more than on Craigslist or eBay. Tons of people use the platform to make a full-time income!
Drive For Uber or Lyft
This side hustle will make you get out of the house but you can make some good money driving for Uber or Lyft. The payment is weekly and you are able to work only when you want. The revenue share is 80% to you, 20% to Uber or Lyft.
If you do drive try to find times where there might be a surcharge to ensure you make additional money.
Sell on Craigslist
Craigslist is one of the easiest ways to sell things from your house. Some good examples include old TV’s, golf clubs, home decorations, furniture, and almost anything in a storage unit.
Become a Part-Time Photographer
While you can make money selling your photos online it will pale in comparison to taking pictures at weddings or events.
Rent Out Your Car
With apps like Turo and Hyrecar, you can now rent out your car hourly or daily. I haven’t tried this one as I love my car but have had several friends who have turned into an easy side hustle.
Drive for Uber Eats or Postmates
UberEats is similar to driving for Uber but you don’t have to worry about people being in your car. Other options included Postmates and Grubhub.
Rent Your House or Room
With sites like Airbnb and VRBO, you can rent out your entire house or specific room nightly or weekly.
People Per Hour
Similar to Upwork, People Per Hour is another great way to find freelance jobs for design, marketing, or writing.
Become a Personal Trainer or Group Trainer
If you have a passion for fitness you should look at different certifications to become a personal trainer or group trainer. If you do training in a big gym like LA Fitness or 24 Hour you will have to split your money.
Instead, see if you can find a small gym and pay a monthly fee or even work out with clients in-house. If you do this make sure to get a legal document signed to prevent yourself from any liability.
Invest in Dividend Stocks
When you invest in dividend stocks you can make money monthly, quarterly, or annually. Some top dividend stocks include Philip Morris, Kraft Foods, or Chevron.
Deliver Items With Your Truck
If you have a truck you can use Dolly to help people move or use to transport large items.
You don’t even need to have a website to sell products anymore. With Zazzle and Shopify you can create products online and sell through Facebook or your website if you have one. You can create products like custom shirts, coffee mugs, signs, hats, or tons of other options.
The best part? You don’t have to worry about shipping, product creation, and inventory!
Fiverr is a great site for freelance designers, website design, and tons of other tasks. If you only charge $5 for every skill you probably will spend more time than it’s worth. But don’t be afraid to charge more if you are expert in something.

Remember, the average millionaire has seven streams of income. How many do you have?
There are 24 hours in the day, eight to ten are at work, another six to eight sleeping. That means you have six to eight hours each day of additional time that you have to work on a side project.
Don’t limit yourself to just making money from your job, there is so much opportunity.
Learn how to make money outside of your job to earn more, give yourself options, and diversify your income.
Whether you start a blog, a social media channel, or one of these other options you will love earning more money.

If you don’t have time and are making money see if you can give a small percent of your salary, commission or bonus. If you can’t give any money (yet) give your time, volunteers are always needed.
Helping people will give you more satisfaction than anything else in life.

Long-term goals will be ones like buying a home, funding your children’s education, or starting a business by a specific age. To give yourself the best chance of achieving your goals start these habits.
#3 Engage in Self Improvement Each & Every Day
Successful people are always reading, learning, and focusing on investing in themselves. Self-improvement is part of their daily routine.
Warren Buffett is worth roughly $70,000,000,000 (yes, BILLION) and reads 600 to 800 pages a day.
If your nights are hectic, try to read in the morning before life gets in the way. Start reading articles, blogs, or books that interest you or are related to the industry you work in.
#4: Devote Part of Each Day Caring For Your Health
What’s the point of getting rich if you don’t have your health?
Sadly, the majority of people focus on earning more money instead of focusing on their health. The goal isn’t to be the richest person in the cemetery, it’s to enjoy your wealth while you’re healthy.
Successful people prioritize exercise and healthy eating in their life. The mornings are usually the best time as you will increase your BDNF levels and heighten your creativity.
Shoot for 30-60 minutes of exercise each and every day. Even if some days are just taking your dog for a long walk, every little bit helps.
#5: Devote to Forming Lifelong Relationships
Successful people understand that one of their rich habits needs to be building a healthy network of other successful individuals.
As Tim Ferriss said, “You are the five people who associate with most. Choose your friends wisely.”
Find people who have like-minded goals that you have. If you see someone online that is doing what you want to be doing reach out to them. People LOVE helping people!
There is a reason people pay for high priced golf memberships not related to golf. They want to be around like-minded people with similar interest and goals.
It’s also the reason successful people have coaches. Even Michael Jordan had a shooting coach, Tiger Woods has a swing coach, and billionaires have “masterminds.”

#6: Live Each and Every Day in a State of Moderation
Successful people find a way to live each day in moderation. They will celebrate success to an extent but they won’t get into a negative state and remain there. They find a way to keep their emotions in check consistently.
When you’re sad, mad, or frustrated you will probably make poor decisions.
On the financial side, successful people live moderate lifestyles as well. The 20 million dollar home or million dollar Lamborghini isn’t their style. Sure, some people indulge but a common trait among self-made millionaires is a moderate lifestyle.
I’m not saying you need to be so frugal you’re cutting coupons when you’re a millionaire but find a balance. Try to stay even keel to make consistently good decisions and not overspend to live above your means.
#7: Accomplish Daily Tasks Each and Every Day
DO IT NOW!
Humans LOVE to procrastinate or put off things they don’t want to do. Instead, do the things you don’t want to do first off in the morning at work or at home.
This will create a positive habit of not procrastinating and making sure you reach your daily, weekly and monthly goals. Once you create your daily goals make sure 80-90% of all goals are complete.
Life happens, if you can’t complete 100% of them all the time find time for them the next day.
#8: Engage in Rich Thinking Each and Every Day
When you think of a successful person do you think of someone who is negative or positive? Someone who is smiling with good posture or someone slouched over with a frown? Are they optimistic or pessimistic?
I think you know the answer. Successful people are positive, constantly smiling, energetic and happy. Even if they have a bad day, they don’t’ let it consume their whole day.
Successful people are constantly congratulating themselves internally all the time. Start celebrating your wins in life ALL THE TIME. If you hit your number at work give yourself a high five, pat on the back or enjoy a good meal out. Whenever you reach a goal, small or large, celebrate your wins!
By celebrating your wins your body will release endorphins that make you feel good and want to do it more often. Winning breeds winning.
On the other hand, don’t dwell on your losses. As a golfer I have come to understand that a golf round is like life, it doesn’t always go as planned! Instead of staying negative after a bad golf tournament, bad day at work, or bad news make it a temporary situation.
Reflect on why the mistake or bad news happened, what you can do now, and focus on finding a solution. Remember, it’s only failure if you don’t learn from it.
Find something you appreciate in life, focus on that and get going!
#9: Save at Least Ten Percent of Your Income
If you make a $100,000 a year and spend $100,000 per year your salary is worthless. Successful people ensure to save 10-30% of their income for their savings goals and retirement.
You have to pay yourself first then your bills. Not the other way around.
Earning money is important but saving money is equally important. Find ways to cut costs like extra channels on the cable bill, choose generic instead of brand name, and buy items in bulk.
Little things add up.
#10: Control Your Thoughts & Emotions
This habit is very similar to number six, living life in a state of moderation. But it’s worth noting again as successful people manage their emotions every single day.
Practice laughing when something makes you angry, stay a good state of mind and stop letting the little things bother you.
I promise you it’ll help your mood every single day.

None of these habits are new, mind-blowing, or unattainable to anyone. They simply require practice, persistence, and commitment to working for you every single day.

Warren is a huge believer in automatic deductions. If you save or invest your money before it hits your bank account you will not be forced to use willpower. I always recommend automating your paychecks to ensure you pay yourself first.
Live Below Your Means
Even though he is worth 70+ billion he still lives in the same house he bought in Omaha, Nebraska for $31,500 in 1958! Who does that!?
Nowadays is someone gets a promotion or raise the common practice is to think how you can keep moving up. The problem?
If you start earning more but spending more you’re right back in the same position as before. I’m not sure I’ll ever be as frugal as Warren but it’s important to always to live below your means.
In the book, Rich Habits, the author found that 67 percent of rich people limit TV time to one hour or less per day. Rich people don’t make TV a habit, they are readers! As Tony Robbins said, “Leaders are readers.”

Learn to Make Passive Income
“If you don’t find a way to make money while you sleep, you will work until you die.” – Warren Buffett
It’s often said that the average millionaire has seven streams of income. If a millionaire has seven I can only imagine how many a billionaire has.
The main point? Don’t trade your time for money as your only way to earn.
Create and sell a course on something you’re knowledgeable about. This could be photography, blogging, sports, etc. There is a niche for almost anything!
As Warren Buffet said, “Never depend on a single income, make investments to create a second source.” This is why I recommend starting a side hustle to ensure you aren’t dependent on one income stream.
Invest in Yourself
Warren and I agree that the most important investment you can ever make is in investing in yourself.
“Invest in as much of yourself as you can, you are your own biggest asset by far.” — Warren Buffett

Play The Long Game
Warren only invests in stocks that he plans to hold for a long time. He is the definition of investing for the long term, he is not a short-term trader.
Warren has always resisted fads or short-term investments. His rule is to only invest in companies that you understand how they make money. Some of his investments include Kraft-Heinz, Coca-Cola, and Dairy Queen. If you don’t understand how a company makes money, skip it or invest in the market with the S&P 500.
Invest in the S&P 500
If you’re not a huge investor, the S&P 500 is the 500 biggest companies in the US. By choosing to invest in the S&P 500 you are buying a fund that owns all 500 companies. By owning one share you are owning a piece of each company.
As he said this CNBC interview, “Consistently buy an S&P 500 low-cost index fund. “I think it’s the thing that makes the most sense practically of all time.”
Hang Out With Winners
Do you hang out with people that lift you up or bring you down? Do your friends inspire and motivate you or ones are they negative and depressing?
Don’t be afraid to ditch these friends and focus on ones that will help better your life. As Warren said, “It’s better to hang out with people better than you. Pick out associates whose behavior is better than yours and you’ll drift in that direction.”

Find Your Passion
Warren is a huge fan of finding your passion. He says that by eight years old he knew he wanted to be an investor.
Not all us will be that lucky but finding your passion is huge for long-term success. He has said “Without passion, you don’t have energy. Without energy you have nothing.”
Passion is the reason Warren is 87 years old and still works every day. To him, it doesn’t feel like work because he loves what he does and will do it forever.
Warren plans to give away 85% of his fortune to the “Giving Pledge” founded by Bill and Melinda Gates. His children will get the remaining 15% percent.
As of 2006, he’s given away roughly 37 billion to charitable foundations and organizations!
Earning money is important but don’t be greedy. Find ways to give back and you will most likely earn more in the long run and help others in need.

Tony Robbins might be one of the most inspirational people ever. He has, without a doubt impacted my life more than any of the others. For those of you who don’t know Tony Robbins, he is a best-selling author, businessman, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and speaker.
Tony Robbins had an extremely rough childhood. He had an abusive mother, four different stepfathers and often time was the man of the house even when he was a child. He worked as a janitor, struggled financially, and his mom wanted him to become a truck driver.

Thanks to the internet you can make money and earn a good living writing for clients online. The best part is that you get to work at home and create your own schedule. The bad part is that it can take time to gain momentum, build your portfolio, and get clients.
But with hard work and determination, you can make freelance writing a great way to make money outside your 9-5 or turn it into a full-time writing career.
What is Freelance Writing?
In the simplest way, freelance writing definition is getting paid to write words for your clients online. You can write about anything that is in demand and some niches earn much more money than others. Most freelance writers work out of their home but some might opt for a shared workspace. In rare instances, clients might want you to write in their office as well.
Freelance writers are also business owners who are responsible for their own taxes. While you don’t need to become an LLC it’s a good idea to separate business and personal expenses. When you are a freelance writer only half your job is writing, the other half is being a business owner. This includes spending time pitching clients, sending invoices, tracking time, and a variety of other tasks.
How Do Freelance Writers Find Work?
While freelance writing is fun, finding the work is not always the most enjoyable process. Obviously, it is necessary because (as I’ve found) without clients, you are not getting paid. When people ask “What is freelance writing” they might be surprised about all the options of what you actually write about. Some examples of freelance writing topics include:

Who Pays Freelance Writers?

How Do Freelance Writers Get Paid?
Depending on the client freelance writers paid in several ways:
Per word basis – You will receive X cents for every word written
Hourly – You track the hours and set an hourly rate with the client beforehand
Per project – You receive the total amount that is not based on per word or hourly rate. If it is a large project you might be paid at different intervals of completion.

It’s not to say that you can’t make money writing in other niches but these have been some of the most profitable niches online.
What Skills Do You Need as A Freelance Writer?
You need two major skills to become a great freelance writer: time management and persistence. When you are a freelance writer with multiple clients you need to be very strict with your time. While you might work at home it doesn’t mean you have 100% freedom in your life. You must have a calendar for your drafts and deadlines for all your clients. One missed deadline and you could lose a client, especially if they are new.
The other skill in persistence. Freelance writers must be tenacious. There is a ton of rejection when it comes to freelance writing. Anytime you pitch a new client you have the option of being denied or never even being responded too. Don’t take it personally — it rarely is anything you did! Freelance writers must learn to bounce back quickly and keep going toward your goals.

These are some of the best freelance writing websites to get your freelance writing career started.
Freelance writing can be a great gig to earn more money and work from home but don’t fall into the trap (like I did) of thinking it’s easy. I made that mistake and I learned from it. Freelance writing is a skill that is learned over time. Like I said, it’s part-time writing and part-time business owner.
Here are five ways to get started freelance writing:
Create a Portfolio
You need a portfolio to showcase your writing samples. While you can use your blog (if you have one) it’s not always the best idea. Often times your blog niche might be different than your freelance writing niche and not relate.
While creating a website might seem like a ton of work it’s actually not nearly as hard as you might think. For $3.95/month you can get started with Bluehost. From there all you need to do is upload a theme (I recommend Studio Press) and customize.
Again, don’t be intimidated by this process.
Your portfolio isn’t just for work samples but to also help potential clients learn more about you. Clients hire people they trust. Make your personal website user-friendly by adding pictures of yourself, significant other, pet or family. Showcase yourself, your work, and your likeability! Write Five or More Samples
Once your website is live you need to have writing samples. At the beginning of your freelance writing career, you might not have anything to display. If you have a blog you can upload some of your most popular and well-written posts if the niches align.
Try to write at least five samples before pitching and reaching out to clients. Another great strategy is to guest post for free on other blogs. Not only will this get you in front of a new audience but it will give you a link to send to potential clients.
Once you have them written upload your samples as a PDF into your website.
Enroll in Earn More Writing Course
For six months I tried freelance writing with very minimal success. I knew people were making good money from freelance writing but I kept striking out. This is the part where you have to put yourself out there. You have to find jobs that you think would be a good fit for and apply. Sometimes you will apply through a website specifically, others you will email them a pitch.
Don’t be upset if you don’t hear back or get rejected. As Jack Canfield said, “Rejection is a myth. You never even had it in the first place.”
Stay persistent, pitch like crazy and start earning money writing online.
Set Freelance Writing Goals
The last part I’ll mention is the importance of setting goals. To be a great freelance writer you need to set goals for different types of activities to stay accountable and motivated. Goals could include:
Monthly revenue goals
Number of clients
Number of pitches per week or month
Cold pitches vs. job boards
Whatever it is, make sure you set some freelance writing goals to keep you motivated to succeed.
Start Writing on Medium
If you don’t have a blog but want to get started creating portfolio pieces and honing your writing skills Medium.com should be your new best friend. This site lets you create a profile in minutes, is 100% free, and can get you massive amounts of free exposure.
Medium is a relatively new site but has gained in popularity along with Quora over the past five years. Try to write posts in your ideal client niches. I’ve found with Medium, a personal story can go along the way gaining trust from the audience. As your writing improves start applying for publications to get in front of a bigger audience.

Goal setting is one of the most common habits of successful people and is needed to achieve your maximum potential. Did you know that 10% of the world sets goals? Unsurprisingly, those 10% control 90% of the resources of the world. If you’re not setting goals in your life you’re missing out on achieving greatness.
Setting goals are one thing but achieving them is totally different. Luckily, I’ve created this goal setting worksheet to help you crush all your goals.
Goal Setting Worksheet
This goal setting worksheet is based on the unbelievably effective videos from Neurogym CEO, John Assaraf. John has worked in personal development and psychology for years. He is featured in the movie “The Secret” and built a billion-dollar business.
The goal setting worksheet is based on these two videos. They are about 40 minutes total but well worth your time.
Here’s how to use the goal setting worksheet and start achieving your goals.
Set Clear and BIG Goals
The most common way to set goals historically has been SMART Goals. While they are a good place to start setting goals they have one major flaw. The “R” in SMART stands for realistic. The problem with most people is that they set “realistic” goals.
Don’t undercut the power of your brain. You have the ability to achieve greatness but you have to set a goal worthy enough of greatness.
John recommends setting goals in six major areas:
Vague goals produce vague results.” — Jack Canfield
Start by thinking about what you want to achieve in each of these six areas. Your goals need to be precise, focused and clear. The more specific the better.
The next part is determining when you will accomplish the goals. Without a completion date, it’s very easy to not follow through on your goal.
How will you know when you reached the goal? John says “To set the perfect bullseye of what you want to achieve.” A date will give you clarity on when you are reaching your goal!
Goal Setting Mistakes
The goal setting worksheet will help you achieve your goals but it’s important to avoid these major goal setting mistakes.
Setting goals from the past and present circumstances. You need to set goals that make you feel uncomfortable. These goals might scare you and make you uncomfortable. That is when you know you are setting amazing goals.
Not writing down your goals or making them vague. If you don’t clarify your goals your brain will be confused and not sure what you want to achieve.
Trying to develop new strategies and tactics. You are not responsible for the strategy, tactics, and process if someone else has already achieved the goal. Learn from people who have already accomplished the goal!
Focus On Your Goals Daily
How often have you set a goal only to forget about it a week later? Life can get in the way but if you want to achieve your goals you must focus on them regularly. As Les Brown said, “Review your goals twice each day in order to be focused on achieving them.”
Reviewing your goals should be part of your morning routine. The morning and evening are the best times to review your goals as your brain is most acceptable to suggestion. Spend 5-10 minutes when you wake up and before you go to bed focusing on your goals.
Implement Strategy, Tactics & Processes
Setting goals are the easy part but you need to create a way to achieve them. John recommends creating a strategy and implementing tactics to achieve them.
Create a Strategy (What You Need to Do)
For every goal you want to achieve you need a strategy to make it happen. Hoping for a goal to end up completed is not a strategy. Every goal you want to achieve has a blueprint of what you can and should do to complete it.
If you want to lose weight there is a clear way to make that happen. If you want to earn more money outside of work there is a way to make that happen. Almost every goal has already been completed by someone else. Use their strategy to save time and speed up results!

Each goal needs to have its own strategy to achieve it, don’t make one strategy for all six goals.
Practice the Tactics (How You Need to Do It)
Once you create a strategy and know how to achieve the goal you need specific tactics. This is in the form of habits and your daily routines.
If your goal is weight loss start scheduling your exercise and meals. If your goal is to make money online start creating a specific number of blog posts.
The strategy is the big picture, tactics are the day to day activities to make it happen.
Process (The System)
The process is just the system to help you make the goal complete. For the previous weight loss example, this could include hiring a personal trainer for accountability or cooking all your meals every Sunday afternoon.
Create New Habits
Things in your life must change if you want to change. What has gotten you here will not get you to your goals.
Habits are what drives the behavior every single day.
Just because you set big goals doesn’t mean your habits will automatically change. With willpower, you can change your habits for the short term but it’s unlikely to last forever.
Think about it, from the moment you wake up you are pretty much on autopilot the majority of the day. Brain studies have also shown your subconscious control 95% of your daily activities.
The way you think, the answers to questions and the activities you do every day happen almost automatically.
Think about your goals every single day!
Create new triggers.
Habits are triggers, routine, and rewards. John gives a good example of a typical morning routine.
Wake up (trigger)
Check email, texts, news in bed (routine)
Satisfaction of checking everything (rewards)
Your habits drive your behavior every single day. You have to become the person that can achieve your goal.
Learn How to Change Your Beliefs
You will almost certainly need to change your beliefs to accomplish your goals. Beliefs are nothing more than patterns.
What you believe about yourself is nothing more than a culmination of what everyone has told you throughout your life. This is how your life has been programmed thus far:
Beliefs –> Habits (how you are supposed to behave) –> Created strategy & tactics –> Results
It’s time to change the loop. You can recreate your own beliefs.
Explicit beliefs are external. “I believe I can lose weight” or “I believe I can make more money” are examples of explicit beliefs.
But studies have found that external beliefs do not drive new habits. While it’s important to share your goals with others you still need to change your implicit beliefs.
Implicit beliefs are underneath the surface. Think of implicit beliefs as the small voice in your head that only you can hear. They will sound like this:
Am I smart enough?
Do I really deserve success?
What if I try my hardest and fail?
Can I really do this?
Everyone has implicit beliefs on some level, I know I’ve fought bast some my whole life.
If you have implicit beliefs your mind will create doubts. Doubts kill your goals.
For example, let’s say your goal is to make $250,000 in the next 12 months but you have a belief that you aren’t smart enough to earn that much. If there is a gap between inner belief and your goals you will NEVER accomplish that goal.
Luckily, you can create new beliefs and get rid of limiting beliefs.
How to Change Your Beliefs
Start by reading your goals with emotion every single day. After reading your goal spend a moment visualizing the goal as being achieved. Imagine the feeling of completing each goal.
Warning: In the beginning, your inner critic will be loud! Negative self-talk can last for weeks and months but you have to keep going. Negative self-talk is a lifelong habit that you are trying to break.But eventually, you will break through.
Once you create the new belief you will change your life forever. Your goals will become implicit and start to believe it from the inside out. You will see new opportunities and take action like never before. Plus, the habit of reading and visualizing your goals on a daily basis will develop the habit of consistency.
Staying consistent will give you a compound effect on your results.

Find Your Big Why
The last part of this goal setting worksheet is to understand what is your big why. Why are you trying to achieve these goals?
Do you want to help yourself, your family or your friends? Do you want to impact others by giving back and contributing to causes you believe in?
Everyone will have a different why. If you don’t have a strong why you are more likely to quit when things get tough.
Your why will give you the extra bit of motivation to help you accomplish your goals. Spend time with yourself and really figure out a strong why (or several) to give yourself absolute conviction to achieve the goal.
