Do you have a morning routine or do you wake up rushed, flustered and try to catch up the rest of the day?
I’m convinced that creating a powerful morning routine is the one habit that can change your life more than anything else in the world.
Yes, this is a bold statement. But after studying successful people for years and creating my own morning routine I fully understand the power of them.
Thank God I finally listened to every successful person ever and started my morning routine in 2018. When I started a morning routine my life and business were a mess. I had left my six-figure job to pursue entrepreneurship and professional golf six months prior. I had told myself I’d do whatever it took to make them both work.
While the intent was good, I had no balance in my life. Hourwise I had never worked more, close to 60-80 hours each week. Money wise I had never earned less. This led to being angry, frustrated, and questioning the choices I had made.
I knew I needed a change and it started with my routine. I wanted to be more efficient, make more progress, and work on myself.
Morning routines are nothing new to successful people. I first found them when I attended a Tony Robbins seminar and they seemed to pop up in every personal development book I read since.
I always figured, how could a morning routine really make that much of a difference? Sound familiar?
Well, jokes on me. Five months later and everything in life has positively changed thanks to my powerful morning routine.
Here are the biggest benefits of starting my morning routine:
Made more money each month January – May from freelance writing.
Worked 20-40% fewer hours each week than I was without a morning routine.
Lost 7 pounds easily (also with the help of intermittent fasting)
Increased my happiness from daily meditation
Averaged reading one book per week
Now, I am a firm believer that if you win the morning, you win the day.
I’m making it my goal to share the power of morning routines with the world. From publishing this post, a whole video series on Youtube, creating a course and telling anyone I can.
Whether you are a stay at home mom, work 90 hours per week at a corporate job or are an entrepreneur… EVERYONE can greatly benefit from a morning routine.
You don’t need to spend 60-90 minutes, wake up at 4 am or take cold showers for morning routines to work. Yes, I’ll outline how those morning rituals can help, but the important part is that you create a morning routine that works for you.
Here’s everything you need to know about morning routines to set yourself up each day to create massive success.
6 Reasons Why You Should Create a Morning Routine
1.) Start The Day on Your Terms
Most people start the day off reactive — hitting the snooze button, scrolling through social media while lying in bed, and waiting until the last minute to get ready.
This leads to being rushed, flustered, and reactive. Instead of starting the day on your terms you are simply reacting to your environment.
In reality, the mornings should be peaceful, positive, and set you up to win the day. I’ll show you the exact rituals the most successful people do each morning.
2.) Focus on Your Goals
How many times have you set a goal only to forget about them a day or week later? Don’t worry, you’re not alone.
I used to be the king of setting goals and losing them into the abyss of my Google drive. Needless to say, setting goals is one thing but you need to focus on them regularly to turn your goals into reality.
As the legendary motivational speaker, Les Brown said, “Review your goals twice each day. Morning and night.”
Even if you spend one minute reviewing your biggest goals you are constantly reminding yourself of what you are trying to achieve! This alone will help you get closer to achieving any goal you set.
3.) Make Your Health a Priority
How many times have you set a fitness goal only to give up on it a few days, week or even a month later? Life happens, I get it. But, a morning routine can give you the time needed to focus on your health as well.
Remember, health is wealth! What’s the point of working hard to make money if you sacrifice your health? There’s no point in being the richest person in the cemetery because you slacked off on your exercise and nutrition.
Rich and successful people like Bill Gates, Tony Robbins, and Gary Vee all exercise early to make sure it doesn’t get missed later on in the day. The mornings give you time to exercise, take a walk and/or prepare your food for the day.
A good morning routine will help you focus on your health and well being each day.
4.) Put Yourself First
The mornings might be the only quiet time you get each day, especially if you have children. When you wake up early you can enjoy the quiet, peaceful moments and spend the time working on YOU.
People might think this sounds selfish but it couldn’t more selfless! By waking up earlier to focus on yourself you will be able to be a better spouse, girlfriend/boyfriend, parent, coworker, and friend.
By putting yourself first you get to start each day with a clean slate and not let yesterday carry into today!
5.) Take a Digital Detox
Once the day gets started avoiding technology is almost impossible. But the fact is that the majority of people are addicted to technology. As Jay Shetty said, “We are meant to love people and use things but today we use people and love things.”
Use your morning routine as a time to take a “digital detox.” Quit wasting your morning scrolling through your news feeds. As best selling author Mel Robbins said, “Do you think Oprah Winfrey or Bill Gates is lying in bed looking at social media!?”
Of course not, but that’s how so many people start their day. I know because that’s exactly what I used to do. Wake up, lay in bed and mindlessly scroll through Instagram and Facebook.
This is the WORST way to start your day!
It puts you in a reactive state instead of proactive where you spend time creating not consuming. Plus, how much good stuff will come from social media in the morning? More pointless selfies, politics, and Instagram celebs won’t help change your life.
Instead, make it a habit to spend 30-60 minutes creating or consuming instead of scrolling away. This could mean reading a book or get into the habit of writing every morning in a journal.
6. Create The Habit of Discipline
One of the biggest benefits of a morning routine is that it creates discipline. This discipline can positively affect all other areas of your life. If you wake up with purpose and a plan with your morning you will show your mind that YOU are in charge.
Discipline in your life can be the difference between reaching your goals at work, making good decisions about your health, and focusing on your top priorities.
9 Amazing Morning Routine Ideas
1. Wake Up Earlier
“If someone asks you why you get up so early, that is the quickest tell that they are not a winning player.” This is one of my favorite Gary Vee quotes ever!
The earlier you get up the more people will question why you get up so early. Don’t worry about them, they are probably not striving to achieve greatness like you. They don’t understand the power of getting up early to make time for your morning routine!
I’m not saying that you need to wake up at 4 am for your morning routine. But let’s get real, you can’t master your morning if you wake up late, grab some coffee and rush off to work. This will start your day reactive and not allow you to set your intentions for the day.
If you want to create an amazing morning routine you have to wake up earlier than you are now. What time you wake up is irrelevant. This will be different for every person depending on family life, work schedule, commute etc. The important thing is that you give yourself enough time each morning to practice the habits below.
The average CEO wakes up three hours before they have to be at work. How early do you wake up?
Why You Should Never Hit Snooze
Have you ever hit the snooze for a few more minutes of sleep only to wake up even more tired and groggy? There’s a scientific reason for that.
As Mel Robbins said in the 5 Second Rule, “We sleep in cycles that take about 90-110 minutes to complete. About two hours before you wake up, these sleep cycles end and your body start to slowly prepare to wake up. When your alarm rings, your body is in wake up mode. If you hit the snooze button and drift back to sleep, you force your brain to start a new sleep cycle that is 90-100 minutes long.”
When the alarm goes off get up — act as if the snooze button does not exist!
2. Create A Mindful Practice
Tim Ferriss published a book, Tools of Titans, that interviewed some of the most successful people on the planet to learn their habits. From Billionaire CEO’s too personal development guru Tony Robbins and professional athletes.
Start Practicing Meditating
Noticed how I said “practice meditation?” I’ve been working at meditation for about eight months and will say it is a process. But I knew I needed some sort of practice to deal with the stresses of being an entrepreneur.
Meditation didn’t come naturally to an aggressive type A personality but it has helped rewire my brain to adapt to situations differently. I’ve never felt calmer and in control in my life.
Have you ever tried meditating?
If you have before with no luck I encourage to try it again. I’ve tried all types of different meditations, some worked amazingly while others put me back to sleep.
The best part about meditation is that it is time for you to be with your thoughts. Don’t be afraid of the silence, embrace it. Use it as a time to connect with your thoughts.
Plus, meditation and journaling each morning will help you start each day grounded and not let yesterday affect today.
Try a Breathing Exercise
I’m sure you’ve felt the mental fog when you wake up, sometimes worse than others. The reason is probably that your brain isn’t receiving enough oxygen. While the brain only takes up two percent of your body’s weight but it consumes 20 percent of the oxygen!
3. Write in a Journal
I’ll be honest I would have laughed if I told my younger self I’d write in a journal each morning. Journals get a bad name because most people associate them with diaries. In reality, a journal couldn’t be farther from a diary.
A journal is your vessel to create your future before it happens. Journalling lets you get what’s in your head out to gain clarity on your biggest goals, dreams, and problems in life. It’s not a place to vent but instead a place to create your ideal future.
Successful people write in journals, frequently. Journaling is an ancient tradition that even Thomas Edison and Einstein used. Historians have asked, “Were they successful because they journaled or did journaling creating their success?”
Quite a question…the truth is, it’s probably a combination of both. Both of these geniuses were also very aware of the power of the subconscious mind.
The Power of Your Subconscious Mind
90% or more of everything you do each day is subconscious.
But accessing your subconscious isn’t that simple. But, researchers have found that the subconscious mind is most active in the morning and right before bed. You see, as you sleep your conscious brain turns off but your subconscious brain keeps working 24/7. If it stopped working so would your production of blood going through your heart.
When you wake up you’re in the alpha brain state, meaning you’re not fully awake and fully conscious yet. This is a prime time to start writing as you will be thinking clearly and accessing your subconscious mind.
How to Write in a Journal
While you might feel groggy it’s actually a time to influence your subconscious mind. In the morning you can direct it toward your biggest goals that you want to achieve in life.
With so much information and stimulation in the world, it’s easy to have a lot going on in our brain. From family, friends, spouse, pets, kids, and work there are a 1,000 things to think about. Journaling is a great way to get all of it out of your head and onto paper,
Think of each morning as a brain dump so you can start each day fresh!
If not you can easily become overwhelmed, stressed, and feel like you will never “catch up” with life. Don’t feel like you need to journal for 30 minutes, make it legible or have any real purpose.
Write as if no one else will read so you can begin to solve problems, distress, and gather your thoughts in one place.
Write out your goals and dreams in detail. Think and write about what it will feel like when your biggest goals are completed. Done enough over time you will begin to program your mind to help you achieve your goals.
4. Use Affirmations to Rewire Your Brain
Journaling is one way to access your subconscious mind but repeated affirmations are another way to help you make positive changes.
As Napoleon Hill said in the personal development classic, Think and Grow Rich, “Any idea, plan or purpose may be placed in the mind through repetition of thought.”
What you say to yourself repeatedly has a profound effect on your body, attitude, and behavior.
Affirmations are a way to train your mind and reprogram limiting beliefs.
If you spend time saying negative things to yourself more of it will transpire in your life. When is the last time you said to yourself “I am fat” or “I am slow” and something changed? Most likely you kept eating or sat back down on the couch.
Instead of putting yourself down use affirmations to build yourself up. Use affirmations to help you become the person that you want to be. As James Allen said, “You become what you think about yourself.”
I learned the power of affirmations after reading “The Success Principles” and now use them every day. Affirmations work best when written or read in the first person. They usually start with the words “I am.”
Here are some examples of affirmations I use in my life:
I AM (insert any of the words or phrases below)
Living the life I deserve
Attracting what I want into my life
Read your affirmations several times as part of your morning routine and before going to bed. Get them down in your soul so you train your mind for greatness!
5. Visualize Your Success
“Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.” — Albert Einstein
Visualizations are a powerful addition to your morning routine. Visualizations work for any area of your life to want to improve and have been practiced for ages and even used by Olympic athletes.
Think of visualizations as daydreaming with a purpose and conditioning your brain for success. As Srinivasan Pillay, a Harvard M.D. said, “We stimulate the same brain regions when we visualize an action as we do when we actually perform that same action.”
Visualizing after meditation is a great time as your brain is relaxed and your subconscious mind is in a deepened state.
Elite athletes like Michael Phelps use visualizations, super-rich actors like Jim Carrey, and best selling authors like Jack Canfield all use this technique. This is why some of the most successful people create vision boards to constantly remind themselves of the vision for their life.
6. Learn Something New
As Tony Robbins said, “Leaders are readers.” Successful people are voracious readers, they love to consume new information and find ways to apply to their lives. When Warren Buffett and Bill Gates were once asked if they could have any superpower what would it be? They both replied, “SPEED READING.”
At the time, they were the two richest humans alive worth over 130 BILLION dollars! And yet, their superpower wouldn’t be anything else, that is how much they value reading!
Make reading a part of your daily routine, preferably in the morning before you go onto social media, watch the news (which tends to be negative….”negative sells” is their slogan) or start checking emails. Warren Buffett reads up to five hours per day while the average CEO reads one book per week. Be sure to check out my reading list for all my recommendations but here are a few to get started:
Awaken the Giant Within
The Success Principles
Think and Grow Rich
As a Man Thinketh
The 4-Hour Workweek
The 5 Second Rule
Listen to Podcasts or Motivational Videos
Successful people are consumers of great information, they understand the more they learn the more they earn. Nowadays podcast is motivational videos are endless and contain a ton of great content. Instead of wasting time on your social media scrolling away spend your commutes and downtime listening to new content.
I highly recommend these podcasts but there are tons of others as well:
“Nobody ever wrote a plan to be lazy, fat or stupid. That’s what happens when you don’t have a plan.” — Larry Winget
If you don’t plan ahead, the day will run you, instead of your running the day. You must create a plan to ensure you accomplish all that you need at work, home, and for yourself.
8. Get the Hard Things Done First
As Robert Allen said, “The fundamental level of success is doing the hard things first. If you go for the feared thing first then rest of the day is easy.”
Utilize your morning routine to accomplish the hardest tasks first!
The Hard Stuff at Home
Creating new habits that stick are hard. If you want to implement a new habit add it to your morning routine.
Studies have shown that it takes 21-30 days for a new habit to be formed. Start your new habits first thing to make them unconscious and part of your day. This could be running, working out, reading, journaling, or meditating.
The Hard Stuff at Work
Make the first 1-2 hours of work your most efficient time. Focus on what Cal Newport calls “deep work.” While most coworkers will be discussing Netflix, traffic or sport you will be putting in the work.
The hard stuff could be a tough email you have been dreading to send or a call you have neglected. Have the conversation or send the email to start your day winning.
Benefits of Doing The Hard Stuff First
There are tons of benefits from doing the hard stuff first. First off it builds momentum. Once you complete the hardest task first you will be able to conquer more throughout the day. The other main benefit is that you won’t get into the habit of procrastinating. How many times have you saved the hardest task until the end of the day only to ignore it?
By accomplishing it first thing in the morning you will feel a sense of relief and accomplishment. Don’t neglect the hard stuff, tackle it first..
Napoleon Hill was an American self-help author best known for his book, Think and Grow Rich. This book, originally published in 1937, is still considered to be one of the best books on personal development and money nearly 100 years later!
Napoleon Hill was able to create such amazing books as he studied successful people in amazing detail in the early 1900’s. After speaking with Andrew Carnegie Hill made it his life’s work to study the habits of successful people in any industry. Carnegie introduced him to people like Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, and Elmer R. Gates.
He used his interviews with these successful people to create one of his first best-sellers, The Law of Success. This 8 volume work catapulted him to success and had a lavish lifestyle including a Rolls-Royce and 600-acre property. After this book was published the Great Depression hit and left Hill in dire financial straits. He was forced to sell his estate and his wife filed for divorce in 1935.
Hill downsized and went back to the core habits that made him the success prior to the Depression. It was in his darkest moment that he created his classic, Think and Grow Rich. Some of the most successful people in the world consider this to the bible of personal development. People like Tony Robbins, Jack Canfield, and other top leaders to understand the power of the mind when it comes to acquiring massive wealth.

How to Use These Napoleon Hill Quotes
If you want to become rich and successful I always recommend studying successful people! It’s amazing to me that Napoleon Hill wrote his best work nearly 100 years ago. Today his concepts are more relevant than ever.
He understood how important it is to get over your own limitations and control your mind. Napoleon understood more about autosuggestion and the subconscious mind than most people for the next 50 years!
If you are struggling in life but want to achieve something great and make an impact you need to read about Tom Bilyeu.
When you hear, read, or even meet successful people do you tend to think they were “born with talent?” Do you think they simply got dealt a better hand than you?
Sometimes people are born with more talent no question, but it’s the ones who put in the work that succeeds at the highest levels.
My success story for today is all about someone who (in his words) is “A lazy person and not a born entrepreneur.”
Yet he transformed his life and went from broke, searching the couch cushions for extra money to founding a billion dollar company.
Tom Bilyeu has an incredible story that will absolutely motivate you to achieve your dreams regardless of where you are now.
I was fortunate enough to get to meet Tom at a Success Live seminar in 2017. For someone who is incredibly popular, famous and wildly rich, he was an awesome guy to everyone that wanted to meet him.
Here’s how Tom Bilyeu followed his passion to become the massive success that he is today.
Tom Bilyeu Backstory
For those of you who don’t know Tom Bilyeu here is a quick bio:
Grew up in Washington. Tom was so “lazy” that he would lay in bed for hours before actually getting up because it was too cold.
Received an average education but suffered from self-doubt and did “just enough” to get by at his jobs.
Worked his way up from copywriter to CMO at a data loss company.
Lost 60 pounds — developed a passion for fitness and nutrition.
Co-Founded Quest Nutrition in 2010.
Helped grow the company 57,000% in 3 years.
Stepped down as CEO to follow a new passion to “Help get people out of the Matrix.”
Started Impact Theory in 2016 with his wife Lisa Bilyeu to “leverage the self-sustaining power of commerce to radically influence global culture.”
Impact Theory now has millions of followers online & is currently in the community building phase.
Here are five exciting lessons you can learn from inspirational entrepreneur Tom Bilyeu:
1. Have Clear Goals (Your Why)
When Tom started his last company, Quest Nutrition, he had a very clear why. He wanted to create a company to “end metabolic disease and show that food can be good for you and still taste good.”
Why did this matter so much? As he talks about in this keynote speech, it was because of his mother, sister, and uncle all suffered from being morbidly obese.
When you want to start something new or create a new goal make sure you know why you are doing it.
Without a why it is easy to quit or give up before you see something through. Whether you want to earn an extra $1,000 side hustling monthly or lose 15 pounds by the holidays know why you are doing it. Is it to help support your family by eliminating money stress or being healthier to have more energy with your kids?
Whatever it is, when you write down a new goal and have your why listed next to it.
2. Develop A Passion
Tom Bilyeu realized that life is more than just making money, it’s about fulfillment. The easiest way to get fulfilled is to find your passion and going after it.
You may be thinking “I don’t have a passion” or “I don’t know what my passion is.”
Don’t worry, some people will find out their passions in life sooner than others. As Tom said in his speech I attended, “You don’t just find your passions, you have to develop your passions.”
The important part is that you need to try new things to find out what you actually like to do. Some things you will love, others you will hate. The point is you have to try everything. Learn what you like, what you hate, and what you might want to keep doing.
3. Always Be Reading
As Tom says, ABR = Always Be Reading.
Reading is a very common habit of the most successful people on the planet. Whether it’s Warren Buffett reading 5 hours a day or Bill Gates reading a book a week. Reading is always associated with success.
Tom Bilyeu on Developing Your Mind
This quote from Forbes sums up his Tom Bilyeu perfectly:
“I went from dead broke, in debt and not able to pay all of my bills to building a billion-dollar brand and completely changing my financial circumstances by going on a decade’s long quest to develop my mind as aggressively as a bodybuilder develops their body. I promised myself that if I ever had the opportunity to pay it forward and teach people to do the same, I would.”
4. You Can Get Good At Anything
As Tom says, “Humans are the ultimate adaption machines and that the brain actually builds faster and better connections to things you think on. It’s incredibly important to be thoughtful about what you think about.”
This is a snippet from his video “Dwell on The Vision” video → check it out below.
Dwell on The Vision and Nothing Can Stop You | Impact Quotes - YouTube
The purpose? Be careful of what you think about because you become what you think about!
If you are always thinking about what you don’t want to happen or what you fear it’s time to stop this negative habit asap.
Switch your thinking to what you want to accomplish. Focus on you achieving your goal whether it’s starting a business, losing weight, or getting that promotion.
The next time you find a negative thought creep in your mind flip it with the opposite to create a new habit.
All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think of, we become.” — Budda
Think of yourself as a winner who accomplishes their goals.
5. Be An Eternal Student
I loved when he talked about this at the seminar — never stop learning, regardless of your age.
Be a student of life.
I think one of the reasons people are opposed to reading and learning new is because it was forced on us in school. We got in the habit of dreading learning since it was associated with learning things we didn’t care about (i.e. calculus, anthropology).
Instead, take it upon yourself to learn something new every single day.
It has never been easier to learn new skills with endless books, online courses, and seminars. The best investment you can make is always investing in yourself.
Success comes in so many different ways and is achieved differently by everyone.
But there are a ton of common habits that successful people share and Tom is no different.
He continues to inspire me and millions of others as he shows the world that anything is possible.
Whether you 25 or 55 years old you can achieve greatness.
Whether you were “born with talent” or not it really doesn’t matter. Humans are capable of nearly anything. Work your ass off and believe in yourself.
Use these habits from Tom Bilyeu to create amazing goals, never stop learning, and live your life with passion.
I couldn’t recommend his Youtube channel enough — it’s filled with amazing interviews and short motivational clips.
Are you in the 87% of the world that dislikes (or hates) their current job? Do you imagine what it would be like to leave, work from home (or beach) with just your laptop and a business idea?
With the internet, there has never been a better time to work for yourself. You don’t have to sit around at a job you hate until you are 65 and ready to retire.
More and more people are choosing to become a solopreneur than ever before. I’m sure part of the allure is from Instagram and the “laptop lifestyle” but the truth is that it’s never been easier to start a business. Previous generations wouldn’t believe it was so easy to start a business or website with minimal effort.
Thanks to the internet, gig economy, and low costs it’s never been easier to become an entrepreneur. 10 years ago it would have been impossible to do what we have access to now. You can start a blog, publish a book or grow an Amazon business with minimal costs.
Of course, becoming an entrepreneur vs. a successful entrepreneur is a different story. Whether you start with a side hustle or build a business there are some universal rules that will help you succeed.
Last year I left my six-figure job to turn my passion for writing into a full-time career. I have learned some valuable lessons in my 12-month journey and want to share with you so you can avoid the mistakes I made.
Here’s everything you need to know about becoming a solopreneur and succeeding much faster with my 14 lessons.
What is a Solopreneur?
The definition of a solopreneur is a professional who chooses to go into business for themselves by going “solo.” They will collaborate with others, grow their business without boundaries, and most likely without employees (at least initially). Solopreneurship is a great way to start a business with minimal costs as there are no employees.
Solopreneur vs. Entrepreneur
Think of a solopreneur as an entrepreneur that is running a business 100% on their own. In my case, becoming a solopreneur helped me leave the 9-5 and start doing work I loved.
Personally, I never wanted a brick and mortar business. I didn’t want the overhead and employees that come with it. While I might hire an occasional freelancer the majority of time is spent alone. The reason I wanted to do the “solo” route was that I wanted life on my own terms and be accountable for the success or failures.
4 Reasons Why You Should Become a Solopreneur
If you’re tired of seeing your boss take a majority of your earnings or want freedom becoming a solopreneur might be a great option. Here are the biggest four reason to make the leap:
1. Keep The Rewards
Working in corporate America for the past eight years made me realize there is very little accountability for your work. Sure you need to do well enough to not get fired but so many people do just enough to get by, collect the paycheck, and head home. On the other side, overachievers are rarely rewarded as much as they should be.
Sure, you will get a big commission or bonus but the company is taking the majority of the rewards, not the high performing individual. I wanted to be rewarded for my work, if I have a half-ass day or week I shouldn’t get paid as much. But if I work hard I should be rewarded equally.
Disclaimer: Just because you decide to work doesn’t mean the laptop lifestyle magically happens. Sure you get to keep 100% of the profits but you have expenses, insurance, taxes, and usually much longer hours (hopefully just for the beginning).
2. Create Your Own Schedule
I’ve never understood why everyone had to work the same eight-hour shift. How is it that it takes people of all age, skill, and experience the same amount of time to do the same work? Short answer, it doesn’t.
But corporate America has burned into our brains that it is the way it is. We all don’t need to work for a set number of hours to complete a specific set of tasks. There is nothing worse than being at work with everything completed mindlessly scrolling through the internet.
As a solopreneur, you get work when you want. Usually, I’m working very early and never past 7 or 8 pm unless it’s easy task work. While my brain operates best in the morning, others might be night owls and enjoy working at night. When you work for yourself you can work when your brain works best. Somedays it could be a four hour day while other days could be 12 or 13 hours.
Creating your own schedule is one of my favorite parts of being a solopreneur. I’m sure you’ve hated sitting in pointless meetings at work or stared down the clock until it was “acceptable” to leave without getting in trouble. By becoming a solopreneur each day is its own adventure and on your schedule.
3. Unlimited Growth Potential
Another flaw with corporate America is the glass ceiling that is above you in nearly every role. Regardless of your effort, if you make $70,000 a year you’ll always make $70,000 even if you’re an A player.
By working for yourself and becoming a solopreneur you have unlimited growth potential. Of course, it takes work but once you get past the learning curve you can scale an online business quickly and cheaply. I’ve seen so many different bloggers earn $3,000 – $4,000 a month and not even a year later they are earning $10,000 – $12,000 per month.
What job can you scale up that quickly?
4. Total Control of Your Life
The last reason you might think about becoming a solopreneur is that you control your destiny. You are your own boss! I don’t know about you but listening to a boss or director tell me what to do was horrible.
Some people need that kind of guidance but others might want total freedom to do what they want to do. By becoming a solopreneur you literally control everything about your business. It’s a daunting task but also very exciting.
Solopreneurs control their own success!
14 Lessons from One Year as a Solopreneur
The benefits are endless but the truth is, being a solopreneur is hard work. Anytime you attach your work to your personal identity it can be very challenging. But that’s not to say that it’s impossible. Besides, anything great takes time to build.
Here are my top 14 lessons of being a solopreneur on my one year anniversary:
1. Focus on Yourself
As an entrepreneur, you are inevitably trying to solve a problem for a group of people. Your work should always focus on, “How can I help more people with this specific problem.”
While you should focus on your customer it is so vital to not forget about number one, yourself. If you stop caring for your mind and body you will never create the best product for your consumer.
Spend time each day looking after your physical and mental health. The easiest way to do this is with a consistent morning routine.
Exercising and getting the creative juices flowing
2. Success Is Never Overnight
It doesn’t matter how many times you fail. You only have to be right one time and then people can call you an overnight success.” — Marc Cuban
Marc Cuban knows all about being called an “overnight success.” After a long road of “failures”, he was able to make it big and finally sell his first company to earn millions literally overnight. While technically he became a millionaire overnight, the journey took years of sacrifice. He slept on floors, shared apartments with five roommates, and lost friendships on his path to success.
While Instagram makes entrepreneurship seem easy and filled with jet skis, private jets, and an easy life it’s not the case. Hard work is always required. If not, everyone would be an entrepreneur.
As Gary Vee points out in this video, success is years and years of hard work for anyone. Even though Lebron James became a national phenomenon at 18, he had been practicing hard for over a decade. While Justin Bieber seemed to have made it early in life he was singing at six years old.
Don’t kid yourself, if you want something great you have to work for it.
3. Get Clear on What You Are Trying to Accomplish
Clarity is so important to achieve your goals. You can’t go all in if you aren’t 100% clear on what you are trying to accomplish.
This happened to me and it sucks. Lack of clarity drains your energy, leaves you scattered, and on bad days feeling hopeless. The worst is when you feel like you worked all day only to look back and feel like nothing got done.
Without clarity, it’s really easy to jump from task to task never really accomplishing anything. Spend time every day, week, and month getting really clear on your objectives.
Each day dedicate a few minutes to writing out what your priorities are for the day. I found it super helpful to meditate for ten minutes and imagine the day going perfectly.
Also, you will find it beneficial to do this each Sunday and at the end of the month to clarify upcoming goals.
4. Everything is Temporary
When things are going bad it’s so easy to feel like it will last forever. It’s easy to think “this is just the way it is.”
In reality, you can change your life at any time. One new book or video can give you an idea that can change your life forever.
Same goes if you are producing content. All it takes one is blog post, Medium article, or Youtube video to go viral.
Instead of feeling hopeless and lost, spend time putting new information in your brain so you can produce more information out. Keep putting out content as it’s simply a numbers game to get your first viral post.
As Gary Vee said, “The more content I put out the luckier I seem to get.”
5. It’s Okay to be Bored
When was the last time you were truly bored?
I never thought about this until I was listening to a podcast with the author of “Bored and Brilliant.” Thanks to TV, phones, laptops, and tablets it’s impossible to be bored like we use to when we were kids.
People used to think of boredom as a bad thing, but in reality, boredom is where unbelieve ideas are born. You can’t get a life-changing idea while you’re mindless scrolling through your phone.
As a solopreneur or entrepreneur, it’s easy to feel that you need to work 24/7. While you need a good work ethic you also need to know when to unplug and learn from quiet moments. Turn your phone on airplane mode and go for a walk, run, or hike.
Spend your time thinking about your goals, aspirations, and challenges. Remember, your brain has more intelligence than any supercomputer. We just forget that sometimes because we are glued to our screens.
Don’t be afraid to put your phone away and find new ideas from “creative boredom.”
6. Always Be Learning
I’ve found it’s easy to get busy creating as a solopreneur and sometimes forget that you need to be consuming information as well. You can always learn more about your industry by spending time reading blogs, books or popular websites. But, you should also read or consume information that is entirely unrelated to sometimes spark creative, new ideas.
Successful people, in any industry, are always learning. They are never content and always pushing to achieve growth.
There is no better investment than investing in yourself, especially as a solopreneur. Plus, it has never been easier to consume new information thanks to podcasts, audible, Youtube, and amazing books. Focus on learning something new each day. Read a chapter a day, listen to a podcast or take an online course.
Even if you improve 1% each day think of the returns in the next 12 months?
7. Take 100% Responsibility for Your Life and Business
After reading “The Success Principles” I realized how true this is — you must take 100% responsibility for your life.
Blaming others for anything takes the power from you and gives it others. It might feel like it’s a clients fault but the second you give power away you makes it hard to change the outcome.
If you want to achieve something it’s 100% up to you. As an entrepreneur, you will make endless mistakes, it’s part of the process. Take responsibility for them and move forward.
You have to fail your way to success.” — Les Brown
8. Always Know What is the Outcome
Ask yourself constantly, what is the outcome?
Before you email a client, post a new blog, or schedule your social media ask yourself…”What am I trying to achieve?”
Focus on doing work that moves the needle, not busy work to feel like you accomplished something today.
9. Create an End Time
It’s natural for first-time solopreneurs to want to prove themselves to the world. They want “hustle” 24/7 and make Gary Vee proud. But if you go non-stop, 24/7 eventually you will burn out. Trust me, this is coming from having first-hand experience.
There is only so much caffeine in the world. Without recharging you will never create your best work. Chose quality over quantity by creating an end time.
Just like you have a wake-up time you should have an end time for your business. This could be to spend with family, read or relax before bed.
Stop feeling guilty about recharging as it will give you the energy needed to create the best possible products.
10. Keep Striving for More
The world is changing faster than ever. You can’t afford to settle in your current situation, no matter how good it’s going. Amazon is one of the biggest companies ever and they are still putting out new ideas constantly. Sure, not all of them will work but you can’t get comfortable. Remember when Blockbuster video did?
Always find ways to add value, create new projects, get more customers, and solve more problems.
Work like there is someone working twenty-four hours a day to take it all away from you.” — Mark Cuban
11. Do The Hard Stuff First
In Brian Tracy’s book, “Eat the Frog” he talks about the importance of doing the hard stuff first each morning. Spend this time on projects, problems, or situations that are giving you the most challenges.
Your brain is the most refreshed and creative in the morning. Don’t waste your time and creativity by checking emails, going on social media, or doing meaningless tasks like organizing your desktop.
The more important and valuable the task is to you, the more you will be motivated to overcome procrastination and launch yourself in to the job. — Brian Tracy
12. Understand that Progress = Happiness
Tony Robbins talks about this concept of progress all the time and he’s right. He says happiness isn’t as hard as people make it out to be. If you are simply making progress toward any goal you will be happy.
Whether you’ve made your sale or earned your first $100 side hustling, progress equals happiness.
As soon as you start to make an inch of progress it will motivate you to keep going and work closer to your goal.
Growing a blog or freelance business is no easy task. While you want to be earning six figures per year just know that it’s a process. I had not anticipated how difficult it would be but have learned to enjoy the process more than the results as I’m constantly trying to move forward.
Progress really does equal happiness.
13. Don’t Compare Yourself to Others
It took me 30 years to realize that comparing yourself to anyone else is a massive waste of time.
Who cares if someone’s website is making more money than yours. Or has more social media fans. Everyone starts out differently and no two people start in the same place.
If you want to be a great solopreneur only compare yourself to is your previous self. Track your own metrics and only compare your results to your past.
14. Don’t Forget About Health Insurance
Oh, insurance. My former employer had incredible insurance and we never paid a dime for medical, dental, or vision. Once my coverage ended when I left I was responsible for this on my own. I signed up for COBRA insurance and found out I was able to keep the same coverage for 18 months.
This means I won’t have to worry about my insurance again until 2019! This is great because it is a pain in the ass when you’re self-employed. The “bad” news is that all the deductibles are paid for by me! The monthly total for health, dental and vision for $419 PER MONTH.
As much as it sucks for paying my own insurance it’s necessary. I’d hate to be in an accident and have large medical bills derail my plan or clean out my savings.
If you want to be a solopreneur there are plenty of resources to help you on your journey.
While I love outlining the benefits of being a solopreneur it’s important to note this lifestyle is not for everyone. Yes, the laptop lifestyle does exist but it’s not easy. The hours are long, the rewards might be low for a while, and it can be very lonely. But, if you are working on something you love and trying to help others the solopreneur path could be just the change you needed.
Once you start seeing growth or progress you will be more motivated than ever. If things go well, not only will you be earning more money but you will be doing something you love. You will also give yourself options. The freedom and potential of becoming a solopreneur are what caught my eye and still keeps me going on even the hardest days.
While you may start as a solopreneur the goal should be to scale up until you can become a full-fledged entrepreneur. This will allow you to scale, delegate, and focus on what you are good..
What is the law of attraction? As legendary motivational speaker Jack Canfield said, “The Law of Attraction states that whatever you focus on, think about, read about, and talk about intensely, you’re going to attract more of into your life.” This is one of my favorite law of attraction quotes!
Here is a quick video to explain how to use the Law of Attraction:

If you feel unmotivated and can’t seem to get things done in any area of your life I want to show you how to get motivated…today!
Yes, today. Not tomorrow, not next week or next month. Life is way too short to feel unmotivated and not live the life you were meant to lead.
While you might think you need to learn how to get motivated have you ever thought how your habits impact your motivation levels?
Motivation makes things happen initially but habits keep them going. It’s hard to be motivated every second of every single day. Somedays you might not get enough sleep, have a bad day at work or have something else come up.
But if you can change some habits in your life it will make it MUCH easier to get motivated and stay motivated! As Jim Rohn said, “Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.”
Here are 5 ways to get motivated and start taking action in your life!
1.) Change Your Physiology
As Tony Robbins says, “Motion creates emotion.” Sometimes you just need to get moving to get motivated. There’s a reason you feel so good after a tough workout or morning run. When you exercise your body releases a chemical called BDNF.
As Mental Health Daily defines “BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) is considered an important protein that influences brain function as well as the peripheral nervous system.” This is just a really smart way to say that exercise helps your mind as much as it does your body.
The next time you’re feeling unmotivated stand-up, take a walk, do some pushups, or do something physical. Your physiology has a huge impact on your motivation levels!
2.) Set Goals In All Areas of Life
One of the easiest ways to learn how to get motivated is to start setting goals in every area of your life! Goals give you direction and something to work towards every day. I’m a firm believer in the Tony Robbins quote, “Progress equals happiness.”
If you don’t have goals you probably don’t feel like you are progressing and might feel stuck. But you aren’t stuck. That is just a story that you keep telling yourself. Your mind made the story up and you keep thinking about it over and over again. Instead of letting your negative mind run your day, let your goals run the day!
Make Your Goals Serve a Purpose
Goal setting is crucial but if they aren’t relevant and serving a purpose it will be easy to ignore them. Instead, make your goals super personal and interesting to you. Create empowering goals that will make a difference in your personal or professional life.
Share Your Goals (With at Least One Person)
Choosing to keep your goals to yourself is a bad idea. As a result, you have no accountability and no one to help you achieve them. I firmly believe that you should share your goals with the world or at least a few people.
This will do several things:
Increases your accountability. No one wants to let someone down
Affirm them to yourself. When you speak your goals it resonates differently than just writing or reading them.
Get help from others. When you announce your goals to people others might have resources or connection to help you achieve them.
Review Your Goals Twice Per Day
Setting goals are great but if you set them and forget about them you’ll almost never make them happen. Each morning and night spend 2-3 minutes and read or affirm your goals out loud. Also, think about what it will feel like when they get accomplished. Think how you will have to grow as a person to make them happen.
This will help your brain understand that these goals are a priority in your life. Remember humans are goal-seeking organisms, your mind wants to help you but you need to give it direction. Because without direction your brain won’t know what to focus on.
Celebrate Your Wins
Get in the habit of celebrating when you complete any sized goal. Reward yourself for your hard work and achievement!
This will give you the motivation to set more goals in the future and lets your brain know that you are rewarded for your achievement.
3.)Surround Yourself with Winners
I’ve always said it’s hard to do epic things with average people. As Tim Ferriss famously said,
You are the average of the five people you associate with most, so do not underestimate the effects of your pessimistic, unambitious, or disorganized friends. If someone isn’t making you stronger, they’re making you weaker.”
Ask yourself…are you friends helping or hurting you?
Because… if you spend time consistently with friends that are dragging you down or living a life you don’t want anymore you must be willing to change. You can do this a few different ways without hurting feelings.
Ask them to change and let them know how you are trying to change.
Stop hanging out slowly and see if they contact you.
Find people who are striving for greatness, don’t waste your time with negative, pessimistic or depressing people.
If you want to learn how to get motivated quit spending time with anyone who drains your energy! Your friends should motivate, inspire, and cheer you on as you pursue your goals.
4.) Clean Up Your Environment
If you’re feeling like the motivation isn’t there in your life look around at your environment. Are you feeling unmotivated or is your life just messy? A dirty, disorganized, and cluttered house or desk can have a huge effect on your motivation levels.
As Benjamin Hardy said in the book, Willpower Doesn’t Work, “Who you are is a product of your self-image and your self-image is based on your environment. Change your environment and you can change everything.”
A clean, tidy work or home environment can make you feel organized, motivated and ready to take on any challenge.

5.) Create an Empowering Morning Routine
Your morning routine is how you get motivated each day for every aspect of life!
If you win the morning you win the day, simple as that. Studies have shown that if you want to start a new habit doing it in the morning greatly increase the chances of you achieving it!
Often times you might feel unmotivated because you are too busy and start each day rushed. That can happen if you are constantly sleeping in!
To stay motivated you need to own your mornings. The routine or rituals will be different for everyone! Personally, I dedicate at least one hour to my morning routine. My morning rituals are my “reboot” to start each day with maximum energy and motivation.
While an hour might not be possible for everyone, even 10 minutes is SO much better than nothing. It could be sitting alone with a cup of coffee, simply observing your thoughts. Or taking a walk, exercising or reading. It’s about staying away from technology and starting your day with self-discipline. Plus, getting up early gives you time to review your goals, plan for the day, and spend extra time with friends and family.
Way too many people don’t feel like waking up early is worth it but I can say that it’s 100% changed my life!
An empowering morning routine is how you get motivated and stay motivated!
How to Get Motivated to Work Out
Now that you’ve set goals and started owning your mornings you won’t have to keep questioning how to get motivated to work out? You have already set yourself up for success! But, there are a few more ways to help you get motivated to work out:
If you plan on working out the next morning before work plan ahead by laying out your clothes, snacks, and water. Make it effortless so you essentially roll out of bed and into your gym shoes. If you go after work have everything in the car so you don’t’ skip out.
Also, know what you are going to workout, and how long you will be there. Planning = consistency!
Get an Accountability Partner
Like other goals, I recommend NOT going after your fitness goals alone. Accountability can play a huge role in making sure you get up AND show up. Try to find a workout buddy with similar goals or find a co-worker who you commute with. As a result, you will be much less likely to skip an early workout.
But if you need more motivation to workout you can also join an expensive gym or schedule a trainer for FORCED ACCOUNTABILITY. If you see money being charged every month it will help you get motivated and make some progress!
How to Get Motivated to Lose Weight
If you’re struggling with losing weight know that you’re not alone. An accountability partner is helpful but make sure to also let your family and friends know. The more support you can have the better!
Track Your Progress
Another way to get motivated to lose weight is to track your goals! As Peter Drucker said, “If you can’t measure it you can’t manage it.” Again, progress equals happiness!
If your goal is to lose 20 pounds and you lose 4 or 5 pounds this can give you a huge momentum boost.
Use a fitness app like my “My Fitness Pal” or a simple note on your phone to track your weight regularly.

Do you want to learn how to be successful in life?
Are you tired of settling for mediocre and ready to take your life and success to the next level?
I was too, I wanted to learn how to be successful so I went after it with 100% commitment. I went to seminars, joined masterminds, read books on successful people, and start implementing into my life.
I’ve found if you want to learn how to be successful in life you need to follow successful people. As Tony Robbins said, “Success leaves clues.”
Almost anything you want to achieve has already been done by someone else. Follow those people to learn their strategies and speed up your own success.
There is no need to reinvent the wheel to success. Find out what other successful people are doing and you too can learn how to be successful in life.
How to Be Successful in Life: 5 Simple Ways
1.) Create an Empowering Morning & Evening Routine
“If you win the morning you win the day.”
If you want to learn how to be successful in life the first thing to do is create a morning routine.
After reading countless personal development books I learned people like Tony Robbins, Oprah, and Bill Gates all have empowering morning rituals. Here’s how you can start:
Start With a Night Time Routine
A good morning routine starts the night before. One of my mentors, Benjamin Hardy, taught me that Benjamin taught me that successful people intentionally direct their subconscious before bed. The use a nighttime routine to help them with problems before going to sleep.
As Thomas Edison said,“Never go to sleep without a request to your subconscious.”
Start by spending 5–10 minutes with a journal to think about what you are trying to accomplish. Write out three wins for the day to help you feel accomplished and proud of your day. Then, look at your goals and ask some questions about why you are struggling to achieve them.
Instead of thinking of your problems, write out the problem and several questions asking for answers. This will give your subconscious mind something to work on while I sleep.
Lastly, write out some of your goals as already being completed.
For example, instead of saying you want to be a professional athlete, write “I am a professional golfer on the PGA Tour.” Then visualize for a few minutes each of these dreams as already completed. This will give yourself a positive visual image before going to bed.
This was exact opposite process of what most people do before bed. Most people go to sleep worrying about the future instead of dreaming about it in a positive way.
Negative thoughts, especially at night, are poison for your mind and goals. Go to bed dreaming about your dream future. Imagine how it will all look, feel, and be when you reach your biggest goals.
Wake Up With Purpose
Instead of waking up without a plan dedicate your mornings to being all about YOU. Start by writing in a journal for 5-10 minutes. Write out, in detail, what it will be like when you accomplish specific goals. Be as detailed as you can. Read these statements out loud to affirm them to yourself.
If you have a vision board you can also look at this and imagine your goals as completed. This helps give my subconscious mind a clear image of what you are trying to achieve. I usually do this after 10–15 minutes of using the “Primed Mind” app or daily meditation.
2.) Your Journal is How to Be Successful in Life
A journal is simple but so beneficial in helping you learn how to be successful in life. I learned all of these tricks from Benjamin Hardy’s Journal Mastery Course.
Last year after reading and hearing the importance of a journal from nearly everyone I decided to give it a try. The only problem was that I had no clue what I was supposed to write about. Somedays it was a recap of the day, other entries were how I was feeling, and sometimes it was just random thoughts. While I still got some value, once I learned how to structure my journal writing I finally began to see results.
By writing in your journal each morning you are able to tap into your subconscious as the fog is still clearing from your conscious brain. Instead of aimlessly writing I spend 10–15 minutes each morning brain dumping:
I write about 2–3 things I’m really grateful for in my life.
Review and write my goals and vision.
Detail my goals as already completed. Write out the specific details and bring in other senses of the goal becoming accomplished.
Journaling will help reframe your subconscious and reshape your identity by using it as a vehicle to consciously create your intended future.
“The subconscious mind will translate into its physical equivalent, by the most direct and practical method available.” — Napoleon Hill
3.) Set Bigger Goals
The best part of getting up early is that it allows you extra time to focus on yourself and your goals. It’s a time for you be proactive instead of reactive in designing your future. The problem is that most people use a SMART goal setting system, which emphasizes on making goals “realistic.”
Don’t waste your time on “realistic” goals, instead 10x them. If your goal is to earn $100,000 in the next 12 months why not add a zero and make $1,000,000?
You might think it sounds crazy and I did too. But once I watched a video from Dan Sullivan, I began to understand the power of the 10X’ing your goals.
As Dan said in this video, “It’s a lot easier to go 10x on your goals instead of 2x.” By choosing to 10X your goals you will gain intellectual engagement and emotional commitment. Once you are committed your brain will act as a filter and get rid of anything that is unnecessary to your goal by delegating or deleting it.
By going 10X instead of 2X you create a totally different mindset to operate from. In order to achieve your goals, you need to set big goals and focus on them every day.
4.) Reshape Your Environment
After reading “Willpower Doesn’t Work” which says most self-improvement books have it all wrong. Most books preach about discipline and willpower to achieve your goals. While those are needed, you also need to change your environment to shift everything else.
As Benjamin Hardy said in his book, “Environmental design is different. It’s about creating conditions that make your success inevitable. For example, if you want to be focused at work, you need to remove all distractions from your physical and digital workspace. If you want to eat healthy, remove all of the unhealthy foods from your house. If you want to get creative insights, get out of town and relax for a day or two.”
Willpower fades but your environment can always be changed to help you reach your goals. And it’s worked amazing. I’ve reshaped my environment by decluttering, cleaning, and removing anything that doesn’t give a feeling of success. This may seem too easy but start by cleaning your desk or closet and you’ll notice a significant change.
“A person’s environment forms every aspect of their lives, from their income to their value system to their waistline to their hobbies.” — Benjamin Hardy

5.) Always Invest In Yourself
As Warren Buffett said, “The greatest investment you can make is in yourself.”
Spend money on yourself, your mind, and your self-education. There’s a psychology behind investing in yourself too. It’s a principle known as “sunk cost fallacy.” The term tends to have a negative connotation because you are overvaluing something (i.e. relationship or business) and continue to stay with it when it’s clearly not working.
But as Benjamin Hardy said in Willpower Doesn’t Work “Sunk cost doesn’t always have to be a bad thing. Actually, you can leverage this human tendency to your benefit.”
By investing in yourself you put skin the game. You are telling your brain what is important and what is a priority. Whether it’s spending money on a coach, trainer, mastermind, or event, it will help you speed up success.
“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve.” — Napoleon Hill
If you want to learn how to be successful in life start using these five tips. Success and achievement of your goals will only come from getting outside your comfort zone. Start by changing your environment, routine, and thoughts to change your life. Once you are clear about your future you can use these lessons to accomplish anything.
Don’t expect change to happen naturally. Work hard to make a successful life and/or successful business.
As Tony Robbins said, “If you want life to change, you have to change. If you want life to get better, you have to get better. It’s the only way.”

Do you need ideas to make money outside of your job?
Since I left the corporate world and started blogging full time I realize how lucky we are to live in today’s world.
Thanks to the internet it has never been easier to make money outside of work — sorry 9 to 5! With apps, social media, and the gig economy it has never been easier to make money outside of your job. A lot of these are one-off jobs but are quick and easy ways to make money quickly.
They also didn’t exist a decade ago.
Some of them, however, have the potential to make you more than your full-time job with consistent effort and hard work. I’ve been using these strategies to make over $1,000 a month with my best month being $1,600 in September.
Will all of these money making ideas work for everyone? Is it easy to make money outside of your job? Sometimes but not always. Hopefully, they get you thinking of ways to monetize the skills you already have.
When you earn more money outside of work you can pay down debt, save, invest, and give yourself more options.
The opportunities are endless!
Check out these 40 different ways to make money outside of your job:
Walk Dogs or Pet Sit
Who doesn’t love dogs? It’s never been easier to use your love of animals to make money outside of your job.
Check out these sites to get started dog walking or pet sitting:
TaskRabbit is a site that connects you to people to help them get with a specific task.
Do you like putting together furniture from Ikea? Well, I’m not sure anyone “likes it” but some people are much better than others. It’s not just furniture installation there are tons of “tasks” available:
Virtual tasks such as calendar organizing, event planning or setting appointments.
If you’d like to try Task Rabbit here is a free $20 using my link to get started. I’m also going to try random “tasks” as a side hustle. Currently, I am in the review process (background check) and will be starting soon.
Grocery Shop For People
Instacart is a way to grocery shop for people and get paid to do it. I personally love grocery shopping, some people hate it so this is easy money. You can apply to be a shopper, delivery driver, or both.
Temp Staffing @ Events
Another great way to earn money is signing up for events where they need temporary staff. Think about conferences, sporting events and take a look on Craigslist to learn more.
I will say I did this in the past and it was a weird experience but I did make close to $500 after six or seven visits. Usually, you have to do a quick physical and then you donate plasma like you do with blood. In my experience, I was paid with Visa gift cards.
Again kind of weird but paid well, avoid this side hustle if you don’t like needles or blood.
I recently signed up for a few website testing services and can say it is super easy. All you do is test websites as your screen is recorded and talk into your microphone.
I recently started using Upwork to start my freelance writing career. There is a ton of different options other than freelance writing.
Be aware they do take 20% but they do connect you with a ton of potential clients.
Swagbucks has a feature where you can watch online videos to earn money from your house. If you sign up you will also get $5 credit, get started now.
Sell a Course
You can create paid courses easily with Teachable or Udemy. I’ve personally created a FREE course with Teachable and currently creating a paid one as well.
Udemy is another option to create paid courses, I have only used as a student but loved the courses.
Set Up Websites
If you already use WordPress and know about installing themes you can charge well over $100 to set up for small businesses. The entire setup won’t take you more than 15-30 minutes using Bluehost to setup and install WordPress.
Sell Books and E-books
I’ve now published two books using Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing. One book, Advice For My Younger Self, is also available in hard copy format from Createspace.
These books aren’t crazy long or require years of hard work. By creating short, how to guides or manuals you can create these relatively quickly and earn royalties for the rest of your life. Check out my post on 10 steps to creating your first e-book to learn more.
Start a Blog
People make a ton of money online and most of them usually started with a blog. I started publishing income reports this year to show people how I make money blogging.
If you want to set your future self up to potentially make money outside of your job at an enormous scale I recommend a blog. This is not a short-term game like some of the other hustles listed.
Check out these five ways to make money outside of your job blogging:
I make a few hundred dollars each month through affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is when an online retailer will pay you a commission for traffic or sales leads from its referrals. It’s not as simple as slapping some pictures or links and seeing the money roll in. You need to refer readers to quality products that you believe in.
Affiliate marketing is great because, for the most part, it is passive income. For more passive income ideas check out Katie’s “Laundry Method” to earn an extra $500 per month!
When you have a blog you can offer paid posts or product reviews for products you believe in. These can range in price but I’ve seen anywhere from $50 – $200 per post. The best part? You don’t have to write it.
You can also post advertising on your site with a ton of different platforms like Google Adsense, Media.net, or Adthrive. The more views you get to your blog the more advertising revenue you can earn every month.
Once you create a successful blog, companies will reach out to partner with you and promote their product or website on your blog. This can be big money!
Sell Your Blog
If you’ve ever started a blog you understand how attached you can become after working on it for so many hours. After reading about “Budgets Are Sexy blog” being sold for over a million dollars know that it is possible!
Create a Youtube Channel
When you create a Youtube channel you also have the ability to make money outside of your job with unlimited potential. Here two popular ways:
Similar to with a blog you can have Google Adsense on your Youtube Channel. The money won’t be much until you have a ton of traffic but still easy money.
Product Placement & Endorsements
You will sometimes see Youtube stars promoting products online as long as you disclose this to viewers.
Become a Virtual Assistant
Virtual assistants are growing each year with more people needing help managing their business or website. Make sure to know what your niche is and start making money from your house!
People always want to learn new skills quickly. If you have skills in anything you can become a coach in person or online.
You can coach people in person for athletics, music, fitness, or photography. Whatever you are great at and have passion for you can teach!
Sell Old Books
Personally, I’m a hoarder of books but I’ve read about people using Half Price books for selling used textbooks.
Create an Instagram
Instagram has been growing at an incredible rate and has a ton of opportunity to make money. Work on building a following with consistent posting, great hashtags, and responding to your followers.
Here are a few ways you can monetize your Instagram:
Brands will pay you to promote their products in front of your audience. A good way to get on brands radar is tagging them in your posts.
Unlike a sponsored post an affiliate will be more invested in making sales for a particular brand in exchange for a commission. You will usually do this with a trackable link or unique promo code.
Do you take great photos or think others would love the photos you are already taking? There are a ton of websites and apps that will help monetize your photo skills:
Amazon has created a service to help you create products and sell products with their advanced fulfillment networks. There are more upfront costs as you have to buy the product (usually from China) but there is an unbelievable amount of potential.
Start An Etsy Store
Etsy is another great way to make money with an online store. It also is a great way to channel your passion into creating something you love and sharing with others. By setting up an Etsy shop you will able to sell much more than on Craigslist or eBay. Tons of people use the platform to make a full-time income!
Drive For Uber or Lyft
This side hustle will make you get out of the house but you can make some good money driving for Uber or Lyft. The payment is weekly and you are able to work only when you want. The revenue share is 80% to you, 20% to Uber or Lyft.
If you do drive try to find times where there might be a surcharge to ensure you make additional money.
Sell on Craigslist
Craigslist is one of the easiest ways to sell things from your house. Some good examples include old TV’s, golf clubs, home decorations, furniture, and almost anything in a storage unit.
Become a Part-Time Photographer
While you can make money selling your photos online it will pale in comparison to taking pictures at weddings or events.
Rent Out Your Car
With apps like Turo and Hyrecar, you can now rent out your car hourly or daily. I haven’t tried this one as I love my car but have had several friends who have turned into an easy side hustle.
Drive for Uber Eats or Postmates
UberEats is similar to driving for Uber but you don’t have to worry about people being in your car. Other options included Postmates and Grubhub.
Rent Your House or Room
With sites like Airbnb and VRBO, you can rent out your entire house or specific room nightly or weekly.
People Per Hour
Similar to Upwork, People Per Hour is another great way to find freelance jobs for design, marketing, or writing.
Become a Personal Trainer or Group Trainer
If you have a passion for fitness you should look at different certifications to become a personal trainer or group trainer. If you do training in a big gym like LA Fitness or 24 Hour you will have to split your money.
Instead, see if you can find a small gym and pay a monthly fee or even work out with clients in-house. If you do this make sure to get a legal document signed to prevent yourself from any liability.
Invest in Dividend Stocks
When you invest in dividend stocks you can make money monthly, quarterly, or annually. Some top dividend stocks include Philip Morris, Kraft Foods, or Chevron.
Deliver Items With Your Truck
If you have a truck you can use Dolly to help people move or use to transport large items.
You don’t even need to have a website to sell products anymore. With Zazzle and Shopify you can create products online and sell through Facebook or your website if you have one. You can create products like custom shirts, coffee mugs, signs, hats, or tons of other options.
The best part? You don’t have to worry about shipping, product creation, and inventory!
Fiverr is a great site for freelance designers, website design, and tons of other tasks. If you only charge $5 for every skill you probably will spend more time than it’s worth. But don’t be afraid to charge more if you are expert in something.
I’ve had poor luck with these but some people swear by them. Check out these sites to start earning money from surveys:
Even if you take away one of these 40 ideas from this post I will be happy. If you want even more ideas here is another great article from fellow blogger Ladies Making Money on how to make an extra $500 per month.
Remember, the average millionaire has seven streams of income. How many do you have?
There are 24 hours in the day, eight to ten are at work, another six to eight sleeping. That means you have six to eight hours each day of additional time that you have to work on a side project.
Don’t limit yourself to just making money from your job, there is so much opportunity.
Learn how to make money outside of your job to earn more, give yourself options, and diversify your income.
Whether you start a blog, a social media channel, or one of these other options you will love earning more money.
Are there are any ideas I left out, what else do you do to make money outside of your job?
If you do what everyone else does, you will get the life everyone else has.
No matter what your goal is, you will have to work harder than anyone else to achieve big goals. Whether it’s losing a ton of weight, making a lot of money, or starting a business, hard work is a crucial ingredient to success.
Try everything, read everything, do anything that could help get you closer to your goals!
I’ve learned from my parents and my past that you can’t replace hard work.
Having fun is important but remember if you’re wasting time someone is out there working hard. Focus on improving just a little bit each day.
Have the best work ethic of anyone you know and you are bound to be successful.
All of the business leaders I follow and respect talk endlessly about the importance of giving back. Whether it is Tony Robbins, Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Lewis Howes or Arnold they are always giving back.
These leaders have inspired me to start volunteering at the animal shelter, donate to charities, and help give back.
By giving back you not only help others but feel incredible afterward.
If you don’t have time and are making money see if you can give a small percent of your salary, commission or bonus. If you can’t give any money (yet) give your time, volunteers are always needed.
Helping people will give you more satisfaction than anything else in life.
