Primers seem to be a hit or miss with people. I’m on the fence with them only because I’ve never actually noticed any huge difference in my skin/makeup when using them. I always apply moisturizer before applying my makeup, so I find when I apply a primer, my makeup never sits properly on my skin, and if I apply my foundation with too much pressure, I find it almost lifts or smears the primer and I’m left with a blotchy/streaky mess.

When I received Revlon’s Photoready Rose Glow Hydrating + Illuminating Primer, I wasn’t that excited. I mean, I was in LOVE with the bottle and colour of the product as soon as I saw it, and I was hoping this primer would exceed my expectations since I’ve never had a good impression with any other primer.

Revlon’s Photoready Rose Glow Hydrating + Illuminating Primer is a water based primer, infused with botanical extracts, luminous quartz, and skin-hydrating beads. You can use it alone for a radiant boost, or under makeup and have your skin feeling moisturized for up to 24 hours. This primer has hydrating oil beads inside it, so to use this primer, you first have to place a few drops in your hands, then rub together to “melt” the oil beads and mix all the product together. Then you can apply it all over your face for radiant skin.

The first time I used this Rose Glow Primer, I didn’t really notice the beads and didn’t rub it together in my hands well enough so when I went to apply it on my face, I had these little clumps all over my skin from the beads not breaking down enough. It was then that I decided to read the bottle, and then actually noticed there were beads inside haha. I tried this for the first time without makeup, and didn’t see any difference in my skin – not even a shimmer from the product (which is probably a good thing, otherwise I’d look like I had highlighter all over!). I wore it another day with makeup over it, and I noticed my foundation didn’t sit entirely perfect over it, but it wasn’t bad enough that I had to redo my makeup. As I said, I don’t use primer enough anyways, so I can’t even say if my makeup is just sitting differently on my skin because of the primer or if that’s how it’s supposed to be and I’m just not used to it (I’m thinking it’s not supposed to be like that..). The one good thing to note is that it absorbs quickly and didn’t leave my skin oily at all.

Primer on my skin (you can see the skin-hydrating beads here – they almost look like air bubbles)

All rubbed into my skin – no shimmer or noticeable difference

After using this a couple times, I don’t think I would spend the money to repurchase this. I don’t see a need for it in my current skincare and makeup regimen. However, with my limited experience using primers, I wouldn’t necessarily trust my judgement as I don’t have a ton of experience with other brands. I will definitely continue to use it, even on it’s own for some extra moisture. I am more obsessed with the packaging and the colour of the product more than anything, which is probably why I want to love it so much.

Revlon’s Photoready Rose Glow Hyrdrating + Illuminating Primer is available at Shopper’s Drug Mart for $17.99 CDN.

With the warmer weather, I’m finally hoping my skin sees the end of its dryness and flakiness. Every time I’ve gone to get a facial, I’m always told my skin is dry. I’ve always been proactive with washing my face and applying moisturizer day and night, so to hear my skin is dry is defeating. In the past couple of weeks, I’ve been introducing Hyaluronic Acid into my skincare regimen to see if I can plump up my skin. Luckily, when I went to Neostrata’s secret pop-up event last month, I was given their Tri-Therapy Lifting Serum.

Neostrata’s Tri-Therapy Lifting Serum helps skin appear smoother and evenly toned, with a more lifted appearance. It has a AMINOFIL Amino acid derivative concentrated to target skin’s hydrating matrix for a more lifted appearance. Gluconolactone, a Polyhydroxy Acid & antioxidant chelator is added which helps to gently exfoliate and promote a more even skin tone. The serum also includes Hyaluronic Acid, which penetrates your skin’s surface to hydrate and replenish it.

Neostrata’s Tri-Therapy Lifting Serum is $130 CDN for 1.0 fl oz / 30 mL. For this amount of product, the price tag would honestly stop me from purchasing it. I’m a huge believer in that not all expensive skincare/makeup is worth it, but there are some key products worth splurging on. This serum is one of those splurge worthy items! To make the most of this product, I only use one to two drops and focus it on areas where I’m most concerned of dry skin and dark spots.

I’ve been using this serum for about a month now, and although I didn’t have deep enough wrinkles to notice any difference in that aspect, I do find that my skin is much more hydrated and smoother looking. I know most products take a couple of weeks/months to actually see results, and with that, I will definitely use up the whole bottle to see if it’s made any other difference in my skin other than the added hydration.

On a side note, since I’ve been using this, I’ve had 2 people tell me that my skin is really nice. So if strangers are telling me this, it must be true!

Neostrata products are available in a ton of drugstores. Check out the Retailers Near You to find the closest store.
I received this item for free at a product launch event.

Getting ready for date night (or even a night out with my girlfriends) is my favourite. I put more effort into my hair and makeup than I do for work every day. Not only that, but I tend to wear nicer pieces of jewelry as well! I received some pieces from Moon Magic and could not wait to wear them this week for a date night with my boyfriend.

The first piece I picked out was their Opal Ring – Arrow Attitude. This ring caught my eye right away and I knew I had to get it or I’d regret it. I am so glad I did because I’ve received SO many compliments on it. The ring is made with 925 sterling silver, synthetic opal, and white topaz. It is slightly adjustable, which is perfect because I can wear it on different fingers if I wanted. However, because the size can be changed, it does feel more fragile than I’d like, so I would be careful when resizing it.

The other piece I chose was their Moonstone Earrings – Moonage Studs. These earrings at first glance look very understated, but in the light, they shine so beautifully! My boyfriend commented on how nicely they look too (so that’s better than most compliments because guys rarely ever notice things or comment without being asked first haha). These earrings are made with nickel free 925 Sterling Silver, and Genuine & iridescent Premium Moonstone.

Aside from the beautiful jewelry, I curled my hair using the 25mm barrel in the Irresistible Me – Sapphire 8 in 1 Curler set. I used to only use the 32mm barrel, but it doesn’t heat up properly anymore (after 4 years of constant use), so now I’ve moved down a size to the 25mm and I am actually LOVING it more. It brings a much elegant look to my hair, instead of a loose wavy look.

What do you think of the ring and earrings from Moon Magic?

They have SO many nice and unique pieces, I would definitely recommend getting some pieces for yourself! They have more simple pieces for an every day look, or really extravagant pieces for special occasions.

Putting yourself first can be tough when there are other people to take care of, life can get so busy and all of a sudden you realize that you’ve not paid any attention to yourself, you’ve ignored your own needs and not looked after yourself. Here are a few easy ways you can do just that without having to make extra time for yourself.

Keep Fit

Finding time to go to the gym or exercise at home or outdoors can be hard, but even if it’s only ten minutes a day, it can make a difference. Get up early and head outside for a walk or run – it’s free, it clears your head and gets you ready for the day. Then there are the obvious health benefits, the social aspect of meeting friends to train with and make friends and it also keeps you in touch with the great outdoors.

Get Enough Sleep

The benefits of sleep are innumerable and the more rest you get, the healthier and happier you will be, and your decision-making will be improved too. Getting enough sleep detoxes your brain and recharges your batteries which means you can be at your best and do your best work when you need to be.

Talk To Your Friends And Family

Your friends and family are your support network and even if you are having a very stressful and busy day, pick up the phone for a few minutes to say hi to your Mum or your best friend – it’s what they are there for. Spend time talking about the good things that are happening in both of your lives. It will keep you grounded.

Take Preventative Measures

Invest in your health and appearance to save a fortune down the line, and if you look after yourself and do all over maintenance, then you should hopefully ward off health problems. Make sure you go to the doctor and the dentist for regular check-ups.

Eat Well

It might seem a bit much to ask but when you get into it, how long does it take to make a home-cooked healthy meal instead of putting some processed food in the oven? There are tools available to make chopping quicker or pre-chopped or spiralized veg ready-made. Taking care of your body is essential when it comes to looking after yourself. Make a nice meal, and if you make a bit extra, that’s your lunch sorted for tomorrow too. With the right diet you shouldn’t need any extra help but to begin with, a couple vitamin supplements can be really beneficial and if there’s a certain part of your body you’re insecure about then fix it, get some hair growth pills that actually work or eyelash extensions, if it will make you more confident to begin with.

Wake Up Earlier

While you need to get enough sleep, waking up earlier gives you that productive hour before everyone else starts imposing on your time. It’s time for you. To do this, go to bed earlier – it’s that simple.

Hire Help

People make a living from ironing, cleaning and dog walking, so if you need the help and have the money, then go for it. Don’t feel bad about it. Look after yourself and the rest will fall into place.

I’m going to be turning 30 next month, and whether I’m actually noticing signs of aging or if it’s just in my head, I’m noticing more fine lines and the beginning stages of wrinkles. Either way, I’m trying to introduce more moisture and anti-aging products into my skincare routine. Luckily for me, I went to a secret beauty product event last week and was told about all these new products that have Hyaluronic Acid in them, which are perfect for plumping up your skin! The brand was revealed soon after as Neostrata! They’ve been around for YEARS and brought some of the best known technologies to the skincare industry, such as Glycolic Acid. During Neostrata’s reveal launch, they introduced two new products – their Hyaluronic Acid Micro Infusion Patches and their Pure Hyaluronic Acid Biocellulose Mask. Both products are ideal for replenishing skin’s moisture and work in new fun ways!

Neostrata’s Hyaluronic Acid Micro Infusion Patches ($25 CDN) are unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. At first glance, I thought they were under eye masks that would help get rid of wrinkles or puffiness. However, they’re for use on your forehead/brow furrow, crow’s feet, and laugh lines. What makes these even more unique is the rough, conical side of the patches which are applied directly to your skin. The patches are applied to your area of concern, and left on overnight for the patches to infuse the surface of your skin with Hyaluronic Acid. These are designed to smooth, plump, and fill the look of lines.

I gave these patches to my mom to try out because she has deeper fine lines than me and I wanted to see if these actually made any difference. While her skin did look a lot smoother and hydrated, I do think with continued use is when you’d see longer lasting results.

If you’ve never tried a Biocellulose Mask, I highly suggest you try them out NOW. These masks cling to your face better than any other sheet mask I’ve ever tried – regardless of the brand. They stay hydrated the entire time you wear it, without ever drying out or falling off your face. Neostrata’s Pure Hyaluronic Acid Biocellulose Mask ($10 CDN – available in June 2019) is designed to hydrate and replenish your skin with the help of 0.15% Hyaluronic Acid. When opening the package for these types of masks, take note that the mask is in-between two layers of mesh liner. The first time I ever tried one, I applied the mask as-is.. with the mesh layers. I thought it was weird, especially because it felt so “thick”. The mask I had bought didn’t have any English writing on it, so I had no idea any different. Luckily, a friend on Instagram mentioned to me that I was supposed to peel away the mesh liners to reveal the actual mask! Thank goodness for beauty blogger friends, am I right?!

When I tried this mask, I left it on for 20 minutes to get the most out of it as I could. It was easy to apply, but I think it’s because I’ve used these types of masks before.. I know the first time I ever did, it was a bit tricky. When I peeled it off, I could definitely see that my skin was more hydrated. I also massaged any leftover serum into my skin and neck.

If you have the chance to pick either of these up, I’d get them! Highly recommend the Hyaluronic Acid Micro Infusion Patches as they’re innovative and actually make a difference!

Neostrata products are available in a ton of drugstores. Check out the Retailers Near You to find the closest store.

A couple of weeks ago, I had asked my boyfriend what colour to paint my nails. He suggested purple and green – his favourite colours. I found a nail plate that said “happy birthday”, so I knew I had to pair it up – especially for his birthday!

I started by painting my nails with two coats of Beyond the Nail – Bright White. When it was dry, I took a straw, dipped it into Beyond the Nail – Space Cadet and blew it over each nail to create a spray paint look. I repeated the process for each nail, and then did the same with Beyond the Nail – Comet. Since this technique is messy and creates blobs of nail polish on your nails, I had to let it dry for about 10 minutes before adding a topcoat so it wouldn’t smudge. On my ring finger, I stamped over it using a Happy Birthday nail plate and Beyond the Nail – Deep Black. I topped each nail off with one coat of PRO FX – Complete 3 and added some green and purple rhinestones to the top of each nail.

What’s better than going to a Museum when you’re in a new city? How about going to a Museum after hours for a themed night where you can explore, engage in activities, and enjoy music and some drinks! If you’re looking for a fun date night out or to get together with your friends, check out Nature Nocturne at the Museum of Nature in Ottawa. It’s held the last Friday of every month, with a new theme!

View of the giant jellyfish from the 3rd floor

I came to visit when the theme of the night was The Deep Blue – an ocean-inspired evening. There were activities all around the museum that had an ocean feel – live sea stars, seaweed tasting, and a giant jellyfish like you can see above. I definitely felt the theme all around the museum, which made it feel like much more than just a museum – it was an experience. A lot of people also dressed up for the occasion – I saw a ton of people dressed up as mermaids, pirates, and even sea creatures!

Beavers at the Mammal Gallery

Polar Bear in the Canada Goose Arctic Gallery

Tarantula in the Nature Gallery

Me in the Earth Gallery

Chasmosaurus in the Fossil Gallery

There are so many permanent galleries to see – Fossils, Water, Earth, Nature, Mammal, Bird, & the Canada Goose Arctic gallery. My personal favourite was the Fossil gallery – I really love to see dinosaurs and their skeletons! It’s insane to see just how BIG or small these animals were. There was a huge whale skeleton in the Water Gallery and it’s just amazing to see how big they can grow. I could literally fit inside the stomach of the whale, standing up!

Along with all the galleries, there are areas in the museum to grab drinks and take part in some of the activities. In one area, we grabbed a drink and watched an acrobatics show, then we got to dress up as mermaids (as you can see above – my boyfriend’s a real sport haha). There was also a VIP lounge where you can get bottle service and food in your own private area overlooking a dance floor. There were three separate dance areas playing different music, where you’re bound to like something.

You can visit Nature Nocturne at the Museum of Nature for yourself on the last Friday of every month for only $25 CDN.

With Spring feeling like it’s coming early this year, Sally Hansen is releasing the perfect collection to help you get into the Spring spirit! Part of their Complete Salon Manicure line, the Floral Collection – Petal Soft Range are runway-inspired colours, with a keratin complex formula and the unique sensory experience of a petal-soft finish. The precision brush ensures easy application and salon-quality results.

Sally Hansen’s Petal Soft Range consists of 6 soft muted shades that range between white, nude, pink, purple, & blue. By looking at my swatches, you might think some of them look the same, and it’s honestly VERY close. Although, when you wear them, you can definitely see the difference, especially against your skin tone. When I first got this collection, I instantly gravitated towards Freesia Fancy because of the shimmer in the polish. After swatching each nail polish, I can’t even tell you my favourite… It’s a toss up between Dahlia Darling and Balmy Blush. They’re all so gorgeous and I can really use these all year round.

Hover over each photo for the polish name, and click the photo to see it larger!

Which nail polish from the Petal Soft Collection is calling your name? They’re honestly ALL so nice and would match anything you wear. I love the formula of these nail polishes too – they dry with a satin semi-matte finish and actually look like the same texture as flower petals! In all my swatches above, I’ve added one coat of topcoat just to seal in the colour and make them last (& I’m a sucker for glossy nails). The only thing I’m not a fan of is their precision brush. It’s a wide, flat brush (opposed to the normal thin round brush), and it’s honestly too big for my nails. My nails are small, and not very wide so when applying nail polish, I get it on my cuticles and my actual fingers. So I have to be careful when applying it, and for my pinky, I’ve had to use the smaller side of the brush so I don’t make a huge mess on myself.

You can get Sally Hansen’s Petal Soft nail polishes from Shopper’s Drug Mart for $11.49 CDN! (on sale right now actually for $7.99 CDN)

The sun is out and it’s finally getting warmer! With the spring weather, Beyond the Nail has released the In-Crelly-Ble Spring 2019 Collection.  This collection includes 4 glitter crelly polishes, with similar shades of glitter that matches the base colour. They take about 3 thin coats to get the best opacity. When I was making them, I wanted them to be 2 coaters, but you wouldn’t be able to see the glitter as clearly. What’s the point of having glitter in nail polish if you can’t see it?

Pink Puffs

This nail polish has a beautiful pink crelly base, filled with white and different shade of pink glitter! My swatches have three thin coats, followed by one coat of topcoat.

Peaches & Dreams

This nail polish has a beautiful light orange crelly base, filled with white and different shade of orange glitter! My swatches have three thin coats, followed by one coat of topcoat.

Lavender Clouds

This nail polish has a beautiful light purple crelly base, filled with white and different shade of purple glitter! My swatches have three thin coats, followed by one coat of topcoat.

Blue Haze

This nail polish has a beautiful light blue crelly base, filled with white and different shade of blue glitter! My swatches have three thin coats, followed by one coat of topcoat.

The In-Crelly-Ble Collection is so fun to wear during the spring! It’s definitely a fun set of nail polishes to bring on the warmer weather! Each polish is $9.00 CDN!

A couple of weeks ago, my friend had the opportunity to send me a code for a free box from HelloFresh. Ever since I had Andreanne from Fork & Fantasy share her thoughts about HelloFresh, I’ve actually really wanted to try it! So this free box was just calling my name.

HelloFresh is a meal kit delivery service. They plan, prep, shop, and deliver fresh ingredients to your door on a weekly basis. You can skip their weekly service, swap recipes from the many offered each week, and can even cancel anytime without any penalties. HelloFresh sources all their ingredients directly from suppliers so you get the freshest and best ingredients. All their kits are pre-portioned for the size of box you order (2 people or 4 people), so there is little to no waste.

There are three different plans to choose from: the Pronto Plan (3 or 4 meals for 2 or 4 people). The recipes in this box are designed to suit a variety of tastes. You’ll find a range of proteins, seafood, and veggies packed in to create delicious recipes. The Family Plan (3 or 4 meals for 4 people) is perfect those who want delicious kid-approved recipes the entire family will love. The last is the Veggie Plan (3 meals for 2 people) which is for the non-meat eaters among us or for those who just like to opt for some veggie meals in their weekly routine. You’ll find a range of recipes featuring plant-based proteins and packed with delicious veggies.

For my first HelloFresh box, I ordered the Pronto Plan for 4 people. There were a ton of recipes to pick, but I narrowed down my choices to Chili Chicken, Mexican Pork Tacos, and Pan-Seared Steak. I chose to have a Sunday delivery because I would be home majority of the day for them to come. The only thing I didn’t love about this whole experience was that it was very vague on timing (8am-8pm), and they just left it on my porch. No one rang the doorbell or knocked to advise that they were dropping it off. Luckily I was keeping an eye out, otherwise it would’ve sat outside for a while (which would’ve been even worse in really cold or hot weather) and could have potentially been taken by someone else.

I really love the packaging, as HelloFresh really put thought into it. The boxes are made from recycled fibers and the liners are made from FSC-certified sustainable cardboard and pulper-safe film, and they are both fully recyclable. They do include ice packs to keep the items fresh as well.

Onto the important piece of this review – the cooking and actual meal! All the different recipes are sent along with recipe cards, which are super easy to follow! I got my boyfriend in on the action since he’s never cooked before, and he agreed that it was easy to follow. All the portions, timing, and steps are listed in order. I did find it took a bit longer to make the meals then it states, but since I don’t cook a lot (& it was my boyfriends first time), I found that we just move at a slower pace. I really enjoyed that all the ingredients were pre-portioned for us, which took a huge chunk of time out of my normal cooking time. Majority of the meals included garlic and/or ginger, which they sent whole. I don’t have a garlic press or have ever peeled/grated fresh ginger, so I just swapped that out for the minced garlic and ginger that I had in my fridge.

All 3 meals that I cooked were new to me, and even had some cooking techniques that I never knew about before. I will definitely be using some of these techniques in other recipes I make. One of the dishes had jalapenos in it, and I was skeptical about using them as I’m not a huge fan of spice, but they had listed the amounts needed for the amount of spice you want. I liked seeing that because even though I don’t enjoy my food to be spicy, the recipe really benefited from using the flavour from it!

The HelloFresh plans range from around $10-12 a serving, which I find a bit high compared to buying the ingredients myself. However, the price includes the whole experience – choosing the meals, having HelloFresh buy and pack all the ingredients and ship it to you, the packaging itself, the cooking experience, and all the work that went behind creating the entire box contents. In the end, the price can be justified, but it can get pricey for every week.. especially when you have to go to the store anyways to buy food for breakfast and lunches.

I WOULD recommend HelloFresh, regardless of the price, because I got to learn new cooking techniques, try new recipes, and even get my boyfriend cooking for the first time (who said it was easy and fun)!

Want to try HelloFresh? Use my referral code below and get $40 OFF your first delivery & PLEASE leave a comment on which meals you picked out! I’m so curious to know what other recipes are good!
