Spilledpolish - just your average Canadian blogger
Hello, I'm Maddy from Toronto (Canada). I love everything to do with beauty, so I began my blog to capture it all! I started blogging about my nail art - which I turned into a business - Beyond the Nail! Now, I continue blogging about that, in addition to other beauty products, events I attend, and other lifestyle topics.
After such success with our (Beyond the Nail) Soft Neon Collection, we’ve decided to release the 2nd release of the Soft Neon Collection for summer. This release consists of four more faded fluorescent shades to spice up your summer look! We have a yellow, green, periwinkle, and coral polish which goes so nicely with the 4 other shades we released earlier this year.
The Soft Neon Collection is available online at www.beyondthenail.com. Each polish retails for $12 CDN, or all four polishes for $44 CDN.

One of the latest makeup trends is not one that focuses on the face but the body. Body contouring is another way to ensure that you always look amazing, even when you may have overindulged on the wine and chocolates or skipped a few gym sessions recently.
Basically, with body contouring, you use makeup or fake tan to achieve a more toned, slimmed down look. Sound good? Check out these amazing body contouring hacks and use them whenever you can…
Contour Your Eyes
If you want your eyes to look amazing for their shape, contouring is certainly something you should be doing.
If you have round eyes, you should use dark shades of eyeshadow in the center of your eyes, using lighter makeup to highlight the corners.
If your eyes are almond shaped, cover your eyes with a dark matte brown eyeshadow, using a darker color to fill in the crease.
For hooded eyes, all you need to do is dust with a light coating of a light colored eyeshadow all over the lid.
Disguise the Double Chin
If you have a double chin that y7ou want to get rid of, fake tan id your best friend. Simply draw a triangle shape under your chin with the fake tan, following the natural shape of the area, then fill it in with tan. Next, draw a line of tan from your ear down your jawbone and blend in. Your double chin will disappear, at least temporarily.
Boost Your Cleavage
If you want to look like you have a little more up top, simply take a foundation that is a couple of shades darker than your skin tone and carefully draw in a couple of curved lines where you want your “breasts” to be. Carefully blend with a good makeup brush and your assets will be temporarily enhanced without having to have a boob job from CG Cosmetic, or anything so drastic. You have to do this very carefully though!
Alternatively, you can apply a little self-tan between your breasts, which will have a similar effect, although it may not be quite as pronounced.
Slim Down Your Thighs
If you want to permanently slim down your thighs, regular exercise or liposuction treatment from liposuctionsydney.com will be your best bet, but if you’re cool with a temporary fix, then all you need to do is apply a careful line of self-tan along the outer thighs. This will create a fabulous illusion of slimmer legs that should last for a good few days at least.
Slim Down Your Nose
If you want your nose to look a little thinner and prettier, but you don’t want to go to the expense of a nose job, then all you need to do is, starting at your brows, draw a line down each side of your nose with a little bronzer, using a fluffy brush to blend it. Then, with a small amount of concealer, draw a thin line between your brows, ending just above your nose. Use some more concealer to brighten the area on either side of your nostrils, blend and you’re done.

If you consider yourself a true traveller, you absolutely have to spend some time travelling around the continent of Asia. After travelling to Bali this year, I really want to spend more time travelling around the world, especially in Asia. This is not only because it is the largest and most sprawling of the continents, but also because there is so much variation. It is also the true long-standing hub for many spiritual and religious traditions. This alone can be fascinating, but there is much more besides which is worth exploring too. Let’s take a look at some great reasons why you might want to think about visiting Asia, beyond some of the ideas about it you might already have.
It’s Easier Than You Think
If you have never visited Asia before, you might be mistaken for thinking that it is too expensive to travel around. You might know or hear of people who disappeared in India for years and returned poor. However, these people probably had very little when they went out, and actually had a small amount of money that lasted quite a long time. The truth is that it is easy to travel around Asia, especially when it comes to the financial side of things. You don’t need very much to be able to stay for a long time, especially if you are thinking of visiting some of the poorer areas of Southeast Asia (such as India, Nepal or Burma). You should always make sure that you have enough with you to enjoy the trip, and that you are able to pay your way the entire time. In general you will get a lot more for your money than if you were to travel in pretty much any other continent, so that is a real selling point for most people, especially anyone who might be struggling a little to get the money together for their next trip.
It’s Incredibly Diverse
What is the main reason you travel? For most, they would agree that it probably has something to do with the fact that you get to learn about different cultures and gain a better understanding of the country. Well, if your goals are anything like that, then you will absolutely want to think visiting Asia at some point, and probably fairly extensively. The reason for this is that it is incredibly diverse, there are so many different kinds of culture there to explore, and you can learn a lot about the human race just by visiting Asia alone. The diversity also means that you are more likely to be able to fit in in many places, because most of the major areas, especially cities, are particular melting-pots. For that reason, it makes travel even easier, and that is always worth thinking about as well. Its diversity is something which you can’t really appreciate until you have seen it, which is why you just have to go and see it for yourself.
You Can Stay For Less
If you want to go somewhere and stay there for a long time, you can easily do so, mostly because the prices will generally be a lot cheaper than if you were to do the same back home. To take an example, let’s look at the beautiful sprawling city-state of Singapore. This is one of the most-visited cities on the planet, and tourism abounds, but it remains a cheap city to move around in, and even to stay in long-term. If you are staying in a hotel, you will be able to find one that is dirt-cheap, and stay there for a long duration. Or if you are thinking about getting a property for rent instead, you will find that it is surprisingly cheap to do so. Being able to stay for less means that you can spend more on the actual activities you want to partake in. Food will be easier to pay for too, and you can enjoy your time there for much longer as well. This will allow you to see even more of your chosen destination. In this way, you can then manage to see much more of Asia as well anyway.
No matter where you go in Asia, you are bound to always come across temples. These church-like structures are some of the most beautiful and fascinating in the world, and it is one of the major attractions for most tourists to Asia. But it’s not just about posing in front of them and taking photos. You also want to make sure that you respect the culture, and use this as an opportunity to really get to understand the places and the people you are visiting. If you look at it in that way, you should find that you can get a lot out of it, and that you are able to learn a lot along the way as well.
Meeting Like-Minded People
If you are keen to meet people, then you will find that visiting many Asian destinations is a great way to do so. So many tourists spend time around Asia at all times, that you will always find people of a similar mind whom you can get along with. This means that your journeys are going to be a lot more enjoyable to take. You will also be able to meet some true friends whom you can then travel on further with. This is one of the best things that people get out of visiting Asia, so it is definitely worth thinking about if you want to get in touch with people you can probably get on well with in future.
Wedding planning gets a bad wrap. When you first get engaged, you’ll often be incredibly excited to get started, but at the same time you’ll dread the wedding planning process. Especially because it can be a lot and you won’t always want to get too caught up in all of the stress and find that you just dread working on it altogether. The best way to avoid this is to just let yourself have fun with it. By making sure that you have your priorities on what actually matters to you, and by caring less about the little things that don’t matter to you, you’ll easily be able to make that happen. So let’s consider five of the things you should look to nail when working on your wedding styling.
1. The Rings
First of all, there’s the rings. Now, not everyone will care about picking these out. But you need to remember that everything you choose for your wedding day is chosen for one day only – except for your wedding rings. So look carefully into your options, like https://www.whiteflash.com/wedding-rings/tacori/, and choose something you’ll be happy to wear for life. Your flowers and your cake will only be in use for one day only, but your rings will be worn forever. So make this decision count.

2. The Dress
Next, you have the dress. Now, you may only wear this once, and you may only want to wear it for a few hours, but it will live on in photos. And you have to feel comfortable and as if you look good in it. This means that you’ll want to really spend your time picking out the right designer, the right style, and feel 100% happy with what you’re going for. For a lot of us, this is the only thing that matters.
3. Your Shoes
Then you have your shoes. For some reason, this is something that not everyone cares about – but it should be. Your shoes often set off the entire look. And you’re going to be in them all day long, so you will want to ensure that they are comfortable too. You may want to think about getting yourself some flat shoes to change into for when you’re struggling too.

4. Your Makeup
From here, you’ll then want to make sure that you’re not only happy with your makeup choice, but that it’s going to last all day. If you’re hiring a makeup artist, make sure that you spend time finding the right person for the job – and don’t feel pressured into going with the first one. You’ll want to look like the best version of yourself on the day, so take your time.
This weekend, while I was trying to find things to do in Toronto with my friends, I stumbled upon the KitKat Chocolatory. It’s a pop-up store where you can create your own flavour of KitKat, or choose to purchase some of their pre-made special edition flavours. We came an hour and a half before closing, and just missed the cut off time to create our own flavours. We still went inside to see what else they had available and was blown away at all the flavour combinations they had available.
Their pre-made special edition flavours ranged from Caramel Popcorn & Almond, Espresso, Cookie & Hazlenut, and Raspberry, Rose, & Hibiscus. KitKat also released a new bar (Ruby) made from newly discovered Ruby cocoa beans! This chocolate is so interesting because it’s naturally pink coloured and has a fresh berry taste.
Since I couldn’t make my own KitKat bar, I decided to pick up a couple of their pre-made bars because I couldn’t leave empty handed. I chose their Raspberry, Rose & Hibiscus kitkat and their Ruby kitkat.
The KitKat Chocolatory is open from June 1- June 28 at 423 Queen Street West, Toronto.
I’m all for good face cleansing at the end of the day. I actually look forward to days when I have the night to myself so I can really cleanse my skin and give it some TLC. I usually just use my hands or a face brush to work my face wash into my skin, but I’ve recently been trying out the Clean facial device from PMD. It’s a handheld device that ensures a deep cleanse by using over 7,000 vibrations per minute. This not only removes all makeup, dirt, and oil, but it helps lift, firm, and tone problem areas for a more youthful appearance.
PMD’s Clean ($99 USD) facial device is made of ultra-hygienic silicone and is odor-resistant, antibacterial, hypoallergenic, and waterproof. Perfect for using in the shower! Since it’s so easy to clean, you never need to replace the brush. On one side of the device, there are the soft silicone bristles that cleanse your skin. On the reverse side, there is a firm grooved backing that is meant to massage in serums and creams into your face using pulsating vibrations.
I had high hopes for this product, but I feel like it doesn’t get my face products into a good lather. Facial products, such as face wash, have to put it on my face first and then go over it with the device. I feel like I get a better cleanse when I use my hands or a brush, but I also believe by using this, it does get the product deeper into my pores by using the vibration. I didn’t think the vibrations on this device would be as powerful as they are. I’m also not sure if it’s just that reason, or if it’s the design of the product, but when I use it on my forehead, it actually hurts. It’s basically banging on my forehead and is quite hard. I have to hold the head of it in order to use it on my forehead to avoid that from happening.
I would like this product better if the bristles were a bit longer – I think this would help lather product more easily and be softer on my forehead (if the design of the device doesn’t change). If the design was changed so that the whole “wand” was the same width all the way up/down, then perhaps the vibrations wouldn’t be so strong… I suppose the strength of the vibrations could also change. There are different speeds, but even the lowest setting seems fast.
I personally wouldn’t pay $99 USD for this just because I could get an equally good cleanse using my hands. But I do enjoy using it a couple days a week just to see if the vibrations actually work on lifting and toning my skin.
If you have dull looking skin that you’re always trying to rejuvenate, you’ll definitely know what microdermabrasion is. If not, you’re missing out! Microdermabrasion works by using a specialized tool that glides over your skin while suctioning on to exfoliate away dead skin, leaving behind a fresh face. PMD has created the Personal Microderm ($159 USD) device that’s safe enough to use at home, giving you the same results you would achieve if you had gone to a professional.
I was sent PMD’s classic Personal Microderm device which utilizes one speed and classic caps. The three other options they have available are Plus, Pro, & Men. The differences are the smoothness in caps, speed settings, and colours. I honestly don’t think there is any difference other than colours for the Men version.
Before using this device, I went onto PMD’s website to learn more about it and see how to use it properly. For such a little device, it’s very powerful; it really suction’s onto your skin! After seeing how to use it, I thought it was straight forward and simple to use. It actually is, but for some reason I didn’t expect it to be so powerful. The first time I actually used it, it stuck to my face and instead of continuing to move it on my face, I just left it there and panicked to turn it off! I, for some reason, forgot that you have to glide it across your face instead of just holding it in one spot. My absence of knowledge caused me to have a small red circle on my cheek for a couple of days (easily covered with makeup!). Definitely follow the instructions and try this on your arm so you know what to expect!
After getting the hang of it, it was very simple to use. There are different disks to choose from, but as a beginner you should start off with the white ultra sensitive disks. I could definitely see the difference in my skin after using it. My skin was super red for the remainder of the day, so I would suggest using this at night so your skin has the whole night to recover. I’ve been using it for about 4 weeks and have noticed my skin is smoother, but I don’t see any results on my blemishes or fine lines. I have old acne scars that I would love to get rid of, so I am hoping with more use of this device, they will disappear over time. PMD says maximum results should be seen after 8-12 weekly sessions, so since I am only half way I am not disappointed that my blemishes are still visible.
One thing that I’ve often thought about, but am too scared to actually do anything about, is lip plumping. I don’t have big lips by any means, and I’m afraid if I did get them filled that they might look extremely fake. But it’s something that’s always crossed my mind. I’ve seen so many girls online and in person with them done, and to tell the truth, I often find them too extreme. However, when I do find someone with natural looking filled lips, I get a bit envious. When the PRIMP Network notified me that they would be sending me PMD’sKissLip Plumping ($139 USD) device to review, I was so excited. I could finally get the chance to have fuller lips naturally without getting any needles!
The KissLip Plumping device is an anti-aging, lip line reducing treatment. It uses pulsating vacuum technology which creates a fuller appearance of the volume in your lips. If used daily, you will be boosting the collagen in your lips and creating long-lasting plumped up results. When purchased, you’ll also get their Smart Lip Plumping Serum, two changeable kissers (silicone mouth piece), and a charging cable.
To use the Kiss device, you start by applying PMD’s Smart Lip Plumping Serum($30 USD) onto clean, dry lips. Power on the Kiss Lip Plumping device and place it onto one area of your lips. Leave it on for about 15-20 pulses and then move onto the next area. You will go around your lips in about 6 sections. The device has 2 speeds which give you an instant boost, or a longer lasting look.
I was a bit skeptical to use this at first because of the huge Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge and seeing how many people had bruising, blistering and even infections on/around their lips. I took the time to read other reviews and watch videos to see how to properly use this device to avoid any issues. I’m happy to report that after using it several times, there has been NO bruising or blistering. To be truthful, the only thing I did notice was the increase of my natural lip colour and the disappearance of the fine lines. I didn’t find that it made my lips any more plump. I found the Smart Lip Plumping Serum to be more like a thick cream than a serum and it was very tacky. When I think of a serum, I expect an oily texture, so I was disappointed to find that it was more of a paste. I assume it has peppermint oil in it because it tingled my lips as soon as I applied it.
I actually enjoyed using this, as it was different than anything I’ve ever tried before. My friend helped me research this before using it, and I gave it to her to try out too. I noticed a lot more colour in her lips and less fine lines as well. But again, no real difference in the plumpness of her actual lips. I am sure after continual sessions we would both see more of a difference. Overall, I’m content with this little device. It does show some change in my lips, which gets my mind away from getting injections. Even though I haven’t seen a huge difference in my lips, I am definitely going to continue to use this and see how I can use it better to achieve better results.
When you start planning what you’re going to pack when you head off on vacation, we all tend to focus on clothing, sun hats, sunglasses, sandals, and swimwear. But what about the bags we’re actually going to cart all of these things around in? You need your luggage to be as secure as possible to ensure that all of your belongings make their way from A to B safely, easily, and in good condition. When it comes down to it, travel can be greatly affected if you don’t invest wisely in your bags. For my last trip, I travelled two weeks with just a carry-on. I did extensive research on what what would work the best, and I settled on a carry-on luggage for my trip. Looking back, I wish I would’ve brought a larger suitcase. It’s all about what your vacation will be like, and how many things you’ll need to bring. Here are just a few options that you might like to consider for your next trip!
The piece of luggage that is probably most commonly associated with travel is the suitcase. These cases tend to come in one of three sizes – large, medium, and hand luggage appropriate. If you’re planning a long weekend away or a short city break, a medium case should suffice. However, if you’re planning on heading away for a week or more, a large case is likely to be more appropriate. Hand luggage appropriate cases can easily fit in a plane’s overhead luggage holdall and should be used for items that you will need direct access to during your flight. The benefits of suitcases are that they are generally on wheels, making the transportation of heavier luggage a whole lot simpler.
Travel bags are essentially oversized backpacks. They are carried on your back but have plenty of space inside to fit belongings intended for a long period of time. Now, you may ask why anyone would opt to carry the weight of their items on their back when they could pull them along on a wheeled suitcase. Well, suitcases are brilliant when you’re travelling across smooth terrain or are simply transferring things from a transfer coach into a hotel. If you’re going to head off the beaten track, wheels are likely to come loose, causing problems as you go. Travel bags give you more mobility!
When it comes to carrying daily belongings around once you’ve reached your destination, backpacks are perhaps the best baggage option on the market. Carrying your belongings on your back is a relatively secure method of transportation. While you’re likely to put handbags down whenever you require the use of your hands, back bags stay on your back but free your hands, meaning you’re much less likely to place them down and forget about them or misplace them. They also tend to be spacious, meaning that you can fit everything you could possibly need (within reason) inside.
Bum Bags (or Fanny Packs)
Ever heard of bum bags? They’re also known as fanny packs! They have long been a relatively taboo item in the fashion realm, but they’re making a major comeback. They have even been gracing high fashion catwalks since Spring 2018, with brands such as Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Zimmerman, and Balenciaga all embracing the look. Perhaps this is due to their sheer convenience, which is one of the main reasons we’ve included them in this list! Bum bags are lightweight and hands-free. While they are small, they generally have enough room for your absolute essentials, such as a passport, money, sunscreen, and insect repellent. They are also relatively pick-pocket proof, as they tend to have zips and are located on the front of your body where you can see them. This makes them perfect for day trips!
If you’re heading somewhere hot and sunny, it’s highly likely that you’re going to spend a whole lot of time on the beach. Now, while technically any bag can function as a beach bag, you’ll soon see why many people invest in bags specifically designed for use on the beach. Beach bags tend to be tote bags, as they can be easily picked up and moved about. They need to be relatively large, to ensure that you can easily fit a towel, sunscreen, books, and any other bits and bobs you might like to use throughout the day inside. Some of our favourite beach bag designs tend to be woven or wicker. These materials aren’t as easily marked by the sand and don’t tend to stain if they do get splashed by the sea or pool water, meaning that they won’t need to be washed regularly or start to look rough and worn quickly.
Who’d have thought that there would be so many bags to choose from when it comes to a simple vacation? But it really is worth investing in them. They can make your stay away from home a lot more secure, simple, and (consequently) enjoyable!
