Richard and Sherri continue to enjoy their time in Paris. On Wednesday night, they dined at a restaurant that is known for their Raclette.  Sherri had the darker cured beef and Richard had the mixed cured meats.

This organic, raw milk cheese from Cascadia Creamery in Trout Lake, WA is so smooth and sumptuous that you'll want to eat the whole wheel! Last Fall, the fat content in their cows' milk spiked with the onset of colder weather, causing a higher milk fat percentage in their cheese. The beautiful white mold on the rind is slightly musty complementing the sweetness of the interior. Thanks to the generosity of our guests and our staff, San Juan Island Cheese is donating $1500 to the relief efforts for the victims of the Ecuadorian earthquakes. The money will go to Cruz Roja Ecuatoriana (Ecuadorian Red Cross) which is providing first aid, search and rescue, health teams, hospital units, and more. Our hearts go out to the ongoing struggle to heal the people and towns affected.

Friday Night Spritz

SPRITZ is the classic Venetian aperitif, traditionally, it’s a mix of prosecco, Aperol (sweeter) or Bitter Campari and Select (bitterer).

For the majority of the Venetians, SPRITZ is an unfailing ritual, served with tapas, giving it the same importance that most international cocktails deserve.

To welcome Spring's arrival, San Juan Island Cheese is hosting an art opening and wine/beer tasting night in collaboration with WaterWorks Gallery. We aim to awaken the senses with visual and edible delights. Join us this Friday to sample 4 wines and 2 beers, enjoy tapas, and admire incredible regional talent.

The works selected by WaterWorks Gallery represent the broad variety of artists the gallery has showcased since 1985.

Some of the works featured are Kappy Trigg, monotypes on paper, Tom Rierden, oil on canvas, Elizabeth Bruno, oil on board and Melinda Hannigan, oil on board. These images present the reawakening of the earth via abstract floral forms, birds, chickens and just soul satisfying color.

Ruth Offen, director of the gallery is available to chat about the selected art from 5 to 7pm. Whether curious about content, technique or artist, Ruth will cheerfully answer your questions.

Admission is $15, which includes 1/2 pour tastings of 4 wines and 2 beers and a curator card. Curator cards will be your voice in helping us curate our wine and beer selections. Tapas will be available a la carte.

San Juan Island Cheese strongly believes that it is incredibly important to exercise your right to vote. To emphasize this, our cheese counter and lunch bistro will be closed on the morning of Saturday, March 26th so our staff can participate in the San Juan County Democratic Caucus (10:00 am at FH High School). We highly encourage our guests, our neighbors and other businesses to attend. 

As a result, San Juan Island Cheese will open at 12:30 pm on Saturday, March 26th and close at 3:00 pm. We welcome all to join us after the caucus to debrief over a glass of wine and a cheeseboard. Our regular lunch menu and small plates menu will be available as well.

For more information on this very important event and future events, we encourage you to visit the San Juan County Democrats website.

Quick tips:

-The official start of the meetings is 10:00 am, with the 19 individual precinct caucuses at which voting will occur starting at 10:30 am. Be sure to arrive promptly at 10:00 am to allow time to register.

-If you prefer to pre-register, you can do so at http://www.demcaucus.com/register. If you do, be sure to print out your pre-registration form, sign it, and bring it to your caucus.

-If you are 17 years old today but will be 18 by the general election date of November 8, you can still attend and vote.

We like to keep things interesting! Each morning, our cheesemongers select three cheeses to be showcased on our World Board, a beautiful cheeseboard accompanied with housemade baguette slices, crackers, dried fruit, nuts, fresh fruit and fig compote. If you fancy, add a cured meat to your cheeseboard.

Our chef creates a scrumptious sandwich of the day, soup of the day, and quiche of the day... all of which are not to be missed! This past week our guests have enjoyed such delights as croque madame, cheesy beef melt with raclette, smoked salmon quiche with chevre and arugula, and Island Sunshine soup made with golden beets... and more!
