For me this was truly a beautiful conversation not just about our time working together on a mentorship level or even our talk around the Back to Business Virtual Conference. I believe this was a beautiful conversation for black women entrepreneurs working on healing, building their business, boosting their confidence and finding their tribe in the midst of finding their voice.

It’s all about energy, attitude and consistency. These ten tips will help you magnetically draw clients to you and make you happy in the process.

1. Use Music

One of the simplest tricks for helping yourself to both take action and feel more confident: Creating your own inspiring musical playlist, and playing it whenever appropriate. (Athletes know this secret and use music all the time, while training at the gym.)

Just as sad music in minor keys can help us process feelings when life deals blows like relationship breakups, so can energizing music or inspiring music actually raise our confidence level to the point where we take action.

Choose your own favorite “theme song.” It will automatically boost your confidence whenever you hear it.

Here’s one of my theme songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6ZjBPXSmnE

2. Dress for Success

This doesn’t mean putting on a formal business suit. It does mean dressing in a way that boosts your self-confidence and makes you feel good about yourself.

Don’t try to copy your ideal client or niche influencer unless that’s a look you totally relate to. It’s more important to dress in a way that makes you feel you have already achieved your top goal. If you see yourself with gypsy-style earrings and East Indian cotton skirts in many colors and layers, go for it. If you see yourself as edgy and trendy, go for it. If you see yourself in tweeds and Arran sweaters, wear them! And take note of how it makes you feel, when you dress for success.

Change your hairstyle or hair color. Buy those shoes you’ve been wistfully drooling over. Don’t worry about what other people think. Wearing what makes you feel successful and confident will attract the right client—for you.

3. Make On-going Learning Part of Your Business Life

Knowing you are ahead of your peers (and abreast of top influencers) in the latest changes, improvements or information in your field is another good way to automatically boost your confidence.

Take innovative courses, attend lectures, keep your certifications updated or upgraded, and subscribe to—and read—industry journals, in order to keep ahead of the pack and provide your clients with the best service. Proactively do primary research yourself. Contact organizations, companies and experts. That way, you won’t just be following top influencers: You’ll BE one.

4. Start Small

Do you have a big change to make? Don’t wait for the “right time”—start small. For example, if you want a new office but can’t afford it, try buying a new piece of furniture or an accessory for your office that will make your life easier—like a bookshelf; or even just a shelf. Or a new lamp, to reduce the chronic eyestrain you suffer. Or even just some flowers because you deserve them!

When you start to surround yourself with things that signify success or make life easier, you are sending yourself a strong message – “I CAN have this in my life! I deserve this!”

5. Make Confidence a Habit

Contrary to what others might think, no one is born with supreme self-confidence. It has to be learned. And it CAN be learned.

So consciously work on changing your habits. Take actions you need to take, change negative self-talk to realistic and more positive talk, and actively adopt the attitude of what you define as a successful person.

Confidence is not only for the few who “succeed.” Anyone can have it—all you have to do is make it a habit.

6. Practice Makes Perfect

My number one way to walk in confidence is to be prepared – or over prepared if necessary. There is nothing better for increasing confidence than knowing you are absolutely ready to give that speech, approach that media personality or promote your book.

So read over the notes or listen to the recording you made for that new client’s free consultation, in plenty of time for their first appointment. Write down what you need to accomplish before tackling some event or project or task that makes you nervous. Make sure you try everything out in advance.

Practice that speech (many times!) Practice using that new webinar software. Anticipate questions. Make sure you have everything you need assembled and ready to go.

Being prepared is the best way to step out in genuine confidence. You will avoid that “imposter syndrome” that tries to kill your confidence.

7. Do It until It’s a Yawn

Does phoning people to ask for interview opportunities terrify you? Remember that doing it once is only an ice-breaker. Once you’ve done it, the next one is easier (even if only marginally)—but if you don’t get straight back on the horse, the effect will wane.

Resist the urge to make just one phone call, or send one custom email, or approach one person at a conference. Set a goal of reaching ten, or twenty, or even fifty (if there are enough people to converse with). Sure, it’s a great breakthrough if you do something like pitch the media or do a book-signing for the first time—but the way to REALLY start enjoying these activities is to do it again and again, until you feel confident and sure of yourself.

8. Realize Your Clients Need—and Want—Your Coaching

Instead of expending energy trying to attract new clients, focus on the ones you already have. They already trust you. They have “bought” from you and they are still coming back for more.

Make sure you meet and exceed their expectations. Be proactive. Anticipate their needs at the next level. Provide aides, extras and resources at the right time. Go over their notes, think about them. Empathize with their problems and dreams.

If you do this—if you treat your existing clients as if they are diamonds—you will automatically attract the same type of client who already wants your services.

9. Know Your Own Value

The most confident people are those who know their own worth: What their time is worth, what their life experience and expertise is worth and what their services are worth.

Track your time. Look over your achievements and credentials. Read your client testimonials and emails. Identify the area where you help people make the biggest shifts.

Realizing how truly unique and valuable you are to clients can give you the confidence to set a realistic and healthy value on your services… so you can stop over-delivering and under-charging, and have the confidence to know you deserve your fees.

10. Take Action

Speaking of small steps, one of the best you can take for yourself is to stop thinking and “just do it”—whatever “it” is.

Thinking leads to over-thinking, which leads to procrastination, which leads to a loss of self-worth. So be the person who takes action when others are still tossing around possible solutions.

Taking action is empowering. So, give your clients the best example, and be that “action person” they look up to, and admire. Tidy your desk. Send that email. Make those phone calls. Feel accomplished and gain momentum – and you’ll collect with confidence.

Life can be cruel. People can be cruel. Sometimes, we (yes, you and I included), can be downright malicious, particularly when we are threatened. The threat of loss—stature, power, influence, credibility, livelihood, approval, love—makes us mean. I don’t care if you’re Mother Theresa or Gandhi: if put in the right set of circumstances, survival mode will kick in.

Lashing out is the brain’s attempt at surviving a threat, real or imagined. When a person experiences threat, she reacts, often in anger. Maybe she gets loud. Maybe she shuts down, giving the silent treatment. Maybe she gossips, poisoning other people’s minds as she spreads the anger. Maybe she punishes.
Take a moment to answer this: how do you react when you feel threatened? Tell the truth. It’s ok. I won’t tell anyone: it’s just between you and me.
#confession:

I leave. If I feel disrespected, or like someone is using me–even if I offered–I am so out of there.

This defense mechanism has cost me greatly: relationships, business clients, opportunities, and intimacy. It’s left me feeling isolated and terribly alone.
And it’s affected my paper.

For a long time, I let underlying anger stop me. I was mad at momma. Mad at my colleagues when I was a professor. Mad because I thought I should have already hit it big, when I hadn’t yet. I was mad at myself, and mad at life.

#realtalk:
It’s EASY to let your emotions overwhelm you, and keep you stuck. Especially when your heart is involved. Someone hurts you, or lies to you, or abandons you, and you find yourself swimming in it, right?

Heartbreak. Sadness. Fury.

And even though you hate feeling the way you do, and you WANT to let those emotions go, it’s WAY easier said than done. (Right?)

It’s a slippery slope. You can’t let emotions go if you’re running from them, pushing them down, or dismissing them by distracting yourself.

People hurt people, yes. But people also help and heal people.

Today, I want to help you by showing you five ways to keep anger (or any other emotion) from holding power over you, so it can no longer affect your relationships, your life, or your paper.

1. Change Your Perspective: When someone says or does something that hurts you (including your own inner mean voice—like my “Worthless Wanda”), remember that you are dealing with one person’s point of view. Just because he speaks with conviction that may be HIS truth, it doesn’t make it TRUE.
It’s hard to be hurt by people when you believe in yourself more than other people’s opinions or points of view.

2. Be Honest with Yourself: If something someone does or says really gets you … if you begin spinning out of control, just stop. Check in with yourself, and be HONEST. WHY is it affecting you so much? Do you already believe, on some level, that what was said or done to you is true? I know, this is tough. But it’s crucial to tell yourself the truth.

If you find that what happened confirmed a personal fear, thank that person; he just became your teacher, and now, you can tend to those fears. Write them down, and dig deep into what the fear is trying to teach you.

You matter enough to do the real work to heal yourself, so other people’s actions don’t undermine your sense of self. Trust me: the gift within the fear can become an attribute.

3. Live Your Truth: It takes a certain level of emotional maturity to go through the discomfort of living your truth not as an act of defiance, but as an act of self-constitution—to live life on your own terms and without fear. Emotional maturity is not a function of age: it is a function of your own willingness to be the author of your life, instead of a victim. Sometimes, it will be necessary to speak up for yourself, or walk away, or leave permanently, and sure, there will be consequences. But living your truth means you respect yourself over all else.

A solid sense of self-worth beats the discomfort and fallout, hands down.

4. Develop Circles of Trust: People need people. Identify the people whose actions match their words in support of you. Make it your business to create occasions and opportunities to be in their company. Tell them who they are for you, and why you value them. Ask them how YOU can be of service in THEIR lives. Think of your circle of trust with other strong black women as the knights from the legends of King Author who surround you with encouragement, love, and positive reflections of yourself … women empowering women. The company you keep can impact the way you handle obstacles. It can save your life.

5. Be CLEAR on Your Purpose: I think about slavery, the holocaust, apartheid, the Boston Tea Party, etc. and I wonder how our ancestors kept going when life tried to kill them. When I think of lynchings, or gas chambers, or Rwanda, I try to imagine what drove our people to keep pushing … to never give up, for us.
It was hope.

They had hope for a better tomorrow. They had a purpose, a vision, a mission, a destiny that was so compelling, it was worth the suffering. It was worth the losses.
I think that when we act out of anger, it’s a result of a loss of hope, and the absence of a purpose worth living for.

Survival make us cruel; purpose gives us hope.

This is why I have faith in life after cruelty.

I have purpose. I have belief. I have hope.

YOU give me hope.

YOU are my purpose.

Where do I start? This is by far the most common question that I receive. Today my goal is to share a few answers with respect to where you should to start in your business, where to start with SistaSense training and what you should be doing right now based on what MODE of business you are in right now.

To best answer your getting started questions, one day I decided to sit down and write out my process of getting things done. It was during this process that I discovered the following truth: as entrepreneurs, we go through a business cycle. On any given day in my business I am immersed in one of seven modes; Idea Mode, Creation Mode, Launch Mode, Marketing Mode, Client Mode, Break Mode or Revamp Mode. When I took a closer look at these ‘modes’, I realized that some form of this cycle is currently being used by other entrepreneurs or can be useful to someone like yourself; an aspiring entrepreneur in need of direction. My hope is that within these pages you can find clarity, support and the right resources you can use to take your next big Small Business steps.

http://sistasense.com/audio/Where-Do-I-Start-The-7-Modes-of-Building-A-Successful-Online-Business.mp3

Idea Mode: Everything starts with a good idea. Maybe you have a business you want to startup or an offer (a product idea) you want to start working on. Maybe you want to jumpstart your business and get things up and running. Maybe you fell off track for a while and feel it’s time to restart after taking time off. Perhaps you want a fresh start in a completely new direction. Whether you want to startup, jumpstart, restart or fresh start your vision; the point is your mind is buzzing with ideas and you are ready to make something exciting happen. Idea Mode is all about the 5 Ws + 1 H – Who, What, When, Where, Why and How. In this mode, you are essentially full of questions and curiosity around who you want to reach, what you want to sell, where you need to be, when you can work on your vision and how you plan on putting it all together, so you can realistically make money and make things happen online. Now that you know what this mode is all about, it’s time to ask the most important questions. Are you in Idea Mode? If so, do you need help in this area? You can start off by watching my quick video on Monetizing Your Magic. For more detailed trainings I recommend my Map Out Your Masterplan Intensive and my Explorepreneur Guide as two solid places to start.

Creation Mode: As soon as you are ready to turn your visions into reality, its time to enter creation mode. This is the time when you work on building your website, creating products, developing digital content and packaging your services. If you’d like to start off by working on your website here is a great video on website essentials along with a link to learn more about my web design and graphics design services. Once you know who you want to reach and what you plan on selling, building your website is the next natural step. If you already have a website or are more focused on developing your offers you may want to schedule a clarity call with me, review my system to turning Content into Cashflow or use my EASY LPP guide to start creating your own Low Price Point products.

Launch Mode: Listen. Learn. Launch. Once you have turned your ideas into actual offers, its time to enter Launch Mode. This is when you start creating a Plan of Action (POA) focused around a specific offer and a target market. During launch mode you should be developing your marketing campaigns, creating promotional content like lead magnets (freebie opt-in offers) and webinar trainings. This is also the right time to work on setting up sales funnels, launch sequences and possible JV or Affiliate partnerships. This is the time to set your dates and deadlines. Now, based on what you are doing in your business at this moment, would you say that you are currently in launch mode? If you need help is this area, my Masterplan Intensive and SIMPLE Sales challenge are helpful training programs to start with.

Marketing Mode: Lights. Camera. Action. Once you start developing a Plan of Action, your marketing plan will begin to take shape. At this point you know what offer you want to promote, what you want to say and who you want to say it to; which essentially means you are ready to rock the web while improving your online marketing skills. This is the time when you’ll start blogging, touring, participating in interviews, teaching virtual trainings, hosting livestreams, leading webinars, advertising, sending out emails and building a community around your brand offers. Marketing mode is all about education and execution. This is the right time for you to focus on creating campaigns, making new connections and staying connected to your existing audience, as detailed inside of my 3 Step Marketing Plan. This is also a great time to get better at marketing, by focusing on boosting your web skills with respect to conversion marketing, blog marketing, video marketing, audio marketing and more as detailed inside my training on essential online marketing strategies for today’s entrepreneur.

Client Mode: New customers are great, but old customers are better. The key to creating a sustainable business is retaining your customers; getting them to come back for more and bring their friends along for the ride! When you are in Client Mode your focus is on customer satisfaction; creating the best experiences and providing the best offers for your current clients while building strong relationships with new clients through consistent engagement and valuable content. When you are in Client Mode you should invest more of your time into becoming a better seller. Is this where you want to focus your efforts right now? If so, I recommend my Savvy Seller Tool Kit to start. It is one of the signature training bundles that I offer around Conversion Marketing, Client Attraction and Sales. if you’d like to learn more about other Client-Centered trainings that I currently offer and plan to release in the near future.

Break Mode: Everybody needs to take a break every now and again. It’s good to take a break after launching a new offer or working hard on client projects. Maybe you are a workaholic and your body needs a break or your mind needs to rest and recharge. Breaks are vital to your business and to your health. This time is essential when you need to unwind or unblock and regroup. If you are taking a break right now and could use some clarity, motivation or ‘Get Back on Track’ trainings to help you move forward, I recommend my Be Well Boss Guide, New Normal Life Design Guide, and Back to Business Virtual Conference series to help get you reconnect with your vision and get back into the right frame of mind to make your next move. Read my piece on Break, but Not Broken and be sure to watch my training on Fear, Fog and Fatigue or listen to my daily direction podcast on how to Take Control of Your Entrepreneurial Journey.

Revamp Mode: Once you get into the swing of things and start working on your business on a regular basis eventually you will find yourself in Revamp Mode thinking about how you are going to reinvent yourself, redesign your website, repurpose your content, refresh your brand, reactivate your list and other similar activities. If you are currently in Revamp Mode, its possible you may be in need of my website redesign or retainer services to help you update your image and get more things done. This might also be a good time to schedule a clarity call with me, so we can explore your new vision. Last but not least, this might also be a great time to dive into my GoPropreneur Guide and learn how you can create new offers like a membership website, magazine or eCourses to take your online business to the next level.

Now that you know all 7 Modes of Building a Successful Business Online, I encourage you to start where you are and do what you can with what you have. Once you create your first offers and website you’ll begin to go through the motions of web business building, immersed inside this process on a regular basis.

Quick Lesson on How to Get More Done and Close More Deals Women Entrepreneurs - YouTube

If you struggle with sales and/or productivity, lean in because today I am going to share a quick, very real lesson on how to get more done in your business, close more deals as a service professional and make extra money as an online entrepreneur.

Notes from the video above:

Set Hard and Fast Deadlines for you and your customers. Sometimes you have to light a fire under you and them to create movement and make things happen. I hate to admit, but I’m honestly one of those people who works well under pressure, how about you?

Check-In More Often: Have you ever had a client sound so ready on a phone consultation, desperate to grab your products and services like yesterday and then nothing? They don’t buy and you are scratching your head, trying to figure out why. Have you heard the term ‘abandoned cart’? More often than not people fill their online shopping cart with all your stuff and then walk away. Customers drop the ball all the time, as a consumer, so do you. As an entrepreneur, your job is to find smart ways to regularly check in with them, send reminders and get them motivated to come back, take action and close the deal.

Give Them Reason to Try a Little and Buy More: Is it a holiday, birthday, flash sale, or closeout? Is this a new customer, VIP customer, or returning customer? Discounts and coupons are wonderful, but they mean more when there is a reason and time limitation placed on them, which give your potential customer a better understanding of their value along with valid reasons as to why they need to buy now vs later.

Monday Morning Money Strategy #1
Remember to remind them to go get what you’ve got.

It’s so easy to forget that our customers are people, just like us. People who don’t read every email or watch every video. Think about the last offer you shared with your community. Send them a reminder message today and say something like: “In Case You Missed it here is …” or you can say something like “Did you get your …?” Check-in and remind them to go check out your latest good good and guess what? A few of them just might go get it, which means a few new sales for you. Remember, some people need a reminder to go click your link again while others simply didn’t see it the first time you sent it, so a friendly follow-up today is a smart way to increase sales.

Monday Morning Money Strategy #2
Repurpose your replays for more views, click-throughs and conversions.

Reuse your best content more often, especially your videos. Make sure you take your livestream videos and upload the replays to YouTube (here’s mine) and Facebook (here’s mine). Also, don’t overlook the value of sharing short, 60-second commercial style clips of your replays on platforms like Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. Consider the time you spend binge watching your favorite shows then consider the possibility that your fans want to binge watch your videos, which in turn can lead to more sales and revenue for you on a daily basis. Monday Morning Money Strategy #4
Respond thoughtfully to questions and see how quickly they buy your solutions.

People have to buy what you say, before they will buy what you sell. Step up your response game. Take some time today to directly respond to questions sent to you from customers via email, voicemail, etc. Or indirectly respond to questions people ask in your industry via your blog, video channel, podcast, social groups or forums. Show people what you know and in the process of doing so, you can offer your offers as solutions to their problems. If you can show people that you have the products and services they need, you can easily almost effortlessly convert more browsers into buyers online.

Monday Morning Money Strategy #5
Tell them all about the results.

That article of you in that magazine was cool, that picture of you with your hands crossed is cute and your website is pretty, but what people really care about is results. Talk about results today. You can share the kind of results you help your clients get or talk about results from a personal perspective. For example, share a “This is How I Did …” story and then let them know, “I can show you how to do … too inside my … offer.” For example, I learned how to generate $100 to $300 a day; bringing in even $1k to $10K in 1 day and I want to show you how to do that too inside the Cashflow Goals guide. What do you want to share with others? Talk about those results today.

If you really want to get better at making money in the morning be sure to download your 7-Day Cashflow Calendar inside the Cashflow Goals Guide before these resources, go up and go away. Download them now today, because opportunities like these expire and this one won’t last for long.

During this week’s video marketing webinar Karla shared that message with me.
