I tried grinding soaked rice for making paal kozhukattai and the batter was ready in few minutes.

That one thing I wanted to try was turmeric as I knew it was very hard, I just crushed it roughly using my hand mortar pestle and then added too the jar for grinding.Tada perfect homemade turmeric powder ready.I just used the preset mode : ‘dry – fine’ for 2 to 3 times, sieved it once and  finally to achieve this.

When I posted my short review in instagram few of my readers and friends asked if it can grind wheat flour so I tried it with 1 cup whole wheat.Though it did not completely match the flour texture we grind in mill , I was really surprised how it has handled it.I can tell its 90% close when compared to mill grinded flour.I used preset mode ‘dry-fine’ for this also.

Red chillies, I added it whole and it handled with such ease, I tried using the manual mode here and later thought the preset mode would have been much more easier and would have given a more finer result.

Anyways no more going to mill for grinding these powders.

All other grinding and juicing it does its job pretty well and with ease.And you can be relaxed too as its hands free you can set the preset mode you want and do your other kitchen chores.

With no doubt this mixer will be a great asset to our kitchen!

Green gram curry recipe a popular kongunadu special dish made in most households here in Coimbatore.We call it pacha payaru kadanjathu locally in kovai.

The first time I tasted this was at my friends place and since then I’ve been trying.But it took me several attempts and all these years to get that perfect taste, texture of this curry.Not joking yes I made and shot this already 5 times, discarded the pics after tasting it…either the taste won’t be apt or the texture.Now finally I got the knack to get that perfect creamy texture and the taste was awesome too and as a bonus I could shoot it with a video too…so yayy!! I was very particular to post this dish only after I am completely satisfied with it as its one of the traditional dish very popular in Coimbatore and I didn’t want to mess it up

It tastes best with rice, chapathi or even dosa so do try this and let me know how you liked it.Very healthy and tasty pacha payaru kadaiyal recipe finally here for you all

Greem gram curry recipe

Greem gram curry recipe a kongunadu special curry perfect with rice, dosa, chapathi etc

  • 1/2 cup green gram
  • 10 nos small onion (chopped)
  • 1 country tomato (roughly chopped)
  • 1/2 tbsp coriander leaves (for garnish)
  • salt to taste
  • 2 and 1/2 cups water
To temper:
  • 2 tsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp jeera
  • 2 nos garlic
  • few curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp whole pepper
Spice powders:
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 heaped tsp coriander powder
  1. Dry roast green gram in a kadai in low flame for atleast 3-5 mins.Cool down, rinse it and set aside.In a pressure cooker heat oil – add jeera let it crackle then add curry leaves and garlic.Saute for few seconds then add chopped small onion.
  2. Saute till transparent.Then add tomato,pepper corns saute until it shrinks.
  3. Add turmeric powder,red chilli powder and coriander powder.Saute for a minute then add rinsed and drained green gram.
  4. Saute for a minute.Add water and pressure cook for 6 whistles in low medium flame.
  5. Let pressure release by itself , open  switch on and mash it using a traditional mathu until its mashed well with whole green gram here and there.Add salt and coriander leaves. let it for a quick boil and switch off.
  6. Serve with rice or chapathi!
  • No need of prior soaking for this curry.
  • Do not add salt before pressure cooking else green gram will not get cooked properly.
  • If water is more after pressure cooking then let it boil for few mins then mash it.If its too dry then add little water boil the curry then mash it.
  • If you do not like whole pepper coming in mouth while eating, you can slightly crush it and add it.
  • I prefer adding country tomato , but if you don’t have add normal bangalore tomato itself.
  • As most dal recipes this also thickens with time, you can add hot water and boil it incase if you are preparing well ahead of meal time.

Sathu maavu puttu recipe a quick and healthy breakfast for kids and for all ages.I always make my own batch of sathu maavu for the kids.I am on the look out for other alternates other than the porridge we make often.

This health mix puttu is a healthy option to include for kids and elders too.If your kid is not fond of porridge then you can make puttu, idiyappam and other varieties.

Sathu maavu puttu recipe a healthy steamed dish perfect for breakfast.

  • 1/2 cup health mix flour
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp coconut
  • water as needed
  • 2 cups water for steaming
  • cane sugar as needed for serving
  1. Dry roast flour for 3-5 mins in low flame, make sure to do this only in low flame to avoid flour getting burnt.cool down completely,then transfer to a bowl add required salt to it.Mix it well first.
  2. Add water little by little and keep mixing.When you take and hold the flour tight it should form shape.
  3. And when you crumble it should fall apart easily, thats the perfect consistency for soft puttu.It should be sandy in texture.You can even add a tbsp of coconut in this mixture too.Set aaide.Add water to a pressure cooker.
  4. Meanwhile to the puttu maker, add coconut to the bottom then add the prepared mixture till slightly below the rim.Pat it well, press it slightly to have a even top.
  5. When it starts to smoke through the cooker hole place puttu maker, steam cook for 3 mins or until smoke comes through both the holes in the puttu maker.
  6. Gently open and invert on a plate to demould.
  7. Serve hot with coconut and canesugar!
  • My homemade health mix already has cardamom in it so I didnt add it.If you prefer you can add a pinch of cardamom powder as per taste.
  • While mixing add ghee, cane sugar mix well and enjoy.
  • If you want you can serve it with any curry of your choice.

Eggless baked bread pudding recipe

Eggless baked bread pudding recipe a warm custard based saucy bread pudding perfect for this chill weather.

  • 4 nos bread slices
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp raisins
For custard sauce:
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp vanilla custard powder
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp butter
  1. Cut the bread slices into small pieces.Butter the baking dish well.Arrange the bread pieces one on top of another as shown.Set aside.
  2. Now lets prepare the custard sauce : To a bowl – add sugar,custard powder, add milk to it.
  3. Mix well and set aside.Boil milk, add the prepared custard sauce to it.
  4. Cook until slightly thick and creamy.It will coat the laddle but still in pour able consistency.
  5. This is how it should be.Switch off and add butter to it.Let it melt in that heat itself.Preheat oven at 180 deg C for 10 mins.
  6. Now pour the custard sauce over the bread.Add raisins on top.
  7. Sprinkle brown sugar and add small butter pieces on top.Bake in preheated oven at 180 deg C for 20- 25 mins.
  8. Serve warm!
  • As we are baking for around 20 – 25 mins few raisins gets burnt, so i suggest to add raisins in the last 10 mins.
  • The pudding bubbles and rises up but after baking it comes down which is very normal.But make sure to leave some space on top else it will overflow.
  • You can add any chopped nuts on top too.

Millet sweet porridge bowl recipe with step by step pictures.I always wanted to try this for breakfast after seeing many breakfast bowl pictures in insta, so thought to try with millets.I have used kodo millet but you can use anything you have in hand.

Millet sweet porridge bowl recipe

Millet sweet porridge bowl recipe with nuts and dry fruits.

  • 1/3 cup kodo millet ((varagu))
  • 1/4+ 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tbsp sugar (adjust as per taste)
  • a pinch salt
  • a tiny pinch cardamom powder(optional)
  • chopped nuts and dry fruits
  1. Soak the millet in water for 15 mins, rinse well and drain water.Add it a sauce pan.
  2. Add water , 1/4 cup milk and a pinch of salt.

  3. Cook until soft and mushy.Add remaining 1/2 cup milk to it.

  4. Let it simmer for 5 mins.Then add sugar.
  5. Add cardamom powder and mix well.
  6. Once its well combined slightly mash using a masher.Mix well and switch off.
  7. Look at the consistency, it thickens with time so serve immediately.Add chopped nuts and dry fruits as garnish and serve.
  8. Serve warm!
  • In case you like to have it chilled then add little milk to loosen up then serve.
  • I had no fruits in hand so used dry fruits and nuts, you can add fresh fruits too.
  • I used cherries, pista and almonds chopped as topping.

  2. Add water , 1/4 cup milk and a pinch of salt.

Nutella popcorn recipe with homemade nutella

  • 1/4 cup popcorn kernels
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar / cane sugar
  • 2 tbsp nutella
  • a tiny pinch salt
  • 1/8 tsp vanilla essence (optional)
  1. Make sure to buy popcorn kernels and not normal corn kernels.Take a thick bottomed pan with lid, I used my sauce pan.Add oil to it.Swirl the pan so that oil is evenly distributed. Heat oil in medium flame,then add 2 corn kernels.
  2. It will pop up in few seconds.This is the right temperature we need.Now add all the popcorn kernels.
  3. Add it,give a quick stir and cover it with a lid.Simmer the flame.Now lift the pan from flame and shake it for 2 seconds then place in flame.Repeat this until all the kernels are popped out.Once the popping sound is stopped, you can switch off flame and remove it.Set aside.
  4. To a sauce pan – add butter and cane sugar to it.
  5. Heat it up once butter melts and combines with sugar add salt and vanilla essence.
  6. Add nutella and heat the mixture for a minute not more than that.Switch off.

  7. Add popcorn toss well.

I don’t it will retain its crunchiness  the next day so wouldn’t recommend for storing as other pop corns.

I have used coconut milk but you can replace it with any nuts milk like almond or cashew too.I was first little reluctant to try vegan recipes as how it would taste but to my surprise the kids gulped the milkshake

Nutella latte recipe – nutella with a mild flavor of coffee this latte tastes best.Easy nutella latte recipe with coffee flavour, do try this at home and enjoy.

I used homemade nutella for this and hubby enjoyed this hot latte very much.

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp nutella
  • 1 tbsp coffee decotion
  1. To a sauce pan – add milk to it.Let it boil.
  2. Once it boils simmer for 2 mins.Add nutella.
  3. Add nutella and coffee decotion to it.Whisk well.
  4. Simmer for a minute, whisk well and switch off.
  5. Using a coffee frother froth well for the foam to float on top.If you don't have a frother just use a whisk  to whisk well.Pour the latte into a mug and Serve.

  6. Sprinkle cocoa powder on top and Serve hot!

How to make nutella latte recipe:
