Sand In The City is an independent blog documenting street style, fashion, creative people and urban events in Dubai. This blog was started to showcase how the people in Dubai express themselves through the way they dress.
All of us know that there is no better way than escaping the summer heat of Dubai then traveling to good Ol’Europe to cool down. For those who are looking for more than just the average Airbnb City Trip here is some good news: There is a piece of Jamaica right in the heart of Cologne Germany and it is happening every year in Summer. Yeah Man, Welcome to the Summerjam Festival.
Every year the 3-day Festival attracts more than 25.000 Reggae enthusiasts from all over Europe to celebrate Peace, Love and Good Vibes all in the spirit of Jah Rastafari. Taking place at the scenic lake Fuhlinger See in Cologne Germany the Summerjam offers a piece of true Jamaican Irieness at a breathtaking location, which locals lovingly call their Cologne Bay. As the biggest Festival of its kind, local and International Reggae Artists will be grooving on 2 stages and spread the love with their Kool Riddims and Hypnotic Grooves.
It all started in 1984 when the first Summerjam Festival took place at the historic Lorely, close to Koblenz. Due to its immense following and popularity the Festival migrated to the north of Cologne to the Lake Fuhlinger See.
Happening on the island in the middle of the popular lake, the Festival offers the perfect location to celebrate the artistic achievements of national and international artists in the genres of Reggae, Dancehall, Hip-hop & Dub. The Festival area also offers an international market, where food trucks offer their delicious dishes and ethnic stands their crafted products. Additonally there is a massive chill out area to kick back and relax. If you are still down for some serious partying after the shows the Dancehall Area is your place to be.
Camping is taking place at the Shore of the Fuhlinger See. Although the Festival officially begins on Friday, many guests, especially the ones coming from abroad arrive earlier to set up their camp and get into the groove. This year’s headliner includes Marteria, Ziggy Marley, Tarrus Riley, Gentleman, Chronixx, Alkaline, Konshens, inner Circle and many more.
It’s 10th season, and we can certainly say now, that Fashion Forward Dubai became one of the most interesting and inspiring destination for editors and style spectators all over the Middle East and beyond.
Statement sweatshirts, dynamic denim and deconstructed tailoring – as we shoot street fashion on the second day of the event, see who’s sporting the best street style looks away from the catwalk.
