The texture of my skin is constantly changing, age, hormones, environment and products play a huge part. When Paula's Choice approached me asking if I'd like to try one of the new Booster launches, I was thrilled to receive the Peptide Booster from a brand that understands how unique our skin is. Here are my initial thoughts from using the Booster, more to come at a later date, but, I needed to share this skin supporter.

The Peptide Booster has suited me and my skin, even the packaging, pipette anyone, you know I love a pipette and the care is taken to ensure the product within is protected and it's application of a high standard, the booster has a lining within the jar to keep it at it's best. 20ml of opaque fluid, it is clear when applied to the skin, this holds its shape, a serum in its consistency, the booster blends out and absorbs leaving no discernable trace, I found my skin was immediately smoother to the touch after application.

The Peptide Boost has been the perfect fit for me for many reasons, it accosts specific skin concerns, loss of radiance, uneven skin tone, fine lines and deeper ones by harnessing a powerful combination of ingredients to strengthen the barrier of the skin and resilience. In an age where we expect the immediate, the instant, the now, there are skincare products that are worth your time and commitment, many work hard, but, they have a lot of work to do and you will see the results but, after weeks, months and sometimes a year down the line. The peptide booster is worth your patience in my book, from years as a skincare consultant, I learnt that my preference was the long-term result givers, gradually your skin moves forward, improving, using this booster supports the existing peptides in the skin, thereby protecting, strengthening, repairing and building resilience. This is a great option for anyone who has tried Retinol and found it too reactive for their skin, the gentler approach isn't a bad way to go. I have had a few recent skin issues, unusual for me, but, my own fault, over-exfoliation with AHA & BHA, plus using Retinol, stopping has calmed my skin and the condition since pairing back on the 'strong' stuff has made a positive difference, no itchy, angry or irritated skin.

This small, yet powerful product contains 8 different peptides, the reason for this is peptides each have their own secret mission, they target different skin issues, so, one will calm redness, another will smooth the skin, another will work on sun damage and evenness of the skin. It's still early days but the booster has slotted into my routine with ease and the gentleness but effective ingredients have already given me smoother skin and in the long term I look forward to furthering improvements, brighter, less pigmented areas hopefully.
If you're into alchemy, well, the great thing about this range is they can be used together, blended and mixed to suit your requirements, something I love when brands give you the power to work the products for your needs.
All the Boost range can be used alone or mixed with your serum or moisturiser of choice, it is not advisable to add them to any SPF as it will dilute the protection, apply SPF alone, after all, skincare.

The choice is simple, it's Paula's, but which Booster will you choose?

Let me start by giving you a brief understanding of my hair colouring history, I started in my late teens using tiny tint sachets that only hinted at colour, I was petrified that my hair would turn orange, it didn't, I did once achieve a green tinge, a shade reminiscent of rotting cucumber, but I continued from tints to semi-permanent dyes in my Twenties and Thirties. Now it's permanent dyes, I always dye my hair at home, I've been raven black to an auburn sheen and now, brown, good old brown varying from dark to light depending on the season.

I have used most home hair dyes over the years, many were not for me and many were, they worked and that's all that matters really. Then, ah then, Josh Wood, the genius Yorkshire lad, recently nominated for a Hair Icon award, who's colouring skills are world-renowned, launched his home colouring range, I was there, ordering before you can say 'by eck lad, that's champion'. The dye was perfect, the first one in forever that hasn't stung a tiny area on my head that was damaged when I had a perm, I've had two perms and someone should have told me after the first to stop it! So, the dye is perfect, the Everything Mask, well, that is a wonder for the hair, never be without it. The Shade Shots are brilliant to pep up the hair between colouring it, great cool and warm tone options, seriously Josh has thought of everything and I'm going to share my home hair dye routine, please note, I am not a hairdresser, that will become obvious, I have found this one of the best kits I have ever used, with every detail taken care of.

I will be filming a 'how I dye my hair' for my YouTube channel, but for now, here's what you get in the kit and my thoughts.

The box is clearly labelled, you see what you're getting and if like me, you wear contact lenses or glasses, or you forget both and find you squint at most things, the print is large, you can see the name and the number of the colour clearly, the visual of the hair colour is a main feature of box and the shades you can expect to achieve are on the box also. It's a small thing but for me important, the box is sturdy, I loathe the flimsy packaged hair dyes that are damaged before you get them home and the products are so tightly forced into the box they are dinted also, this box everything fits without being tightly packed, so, they are easy to remove.

Within the box you have everything, and I mean everything for a relaxed, home colouring experience, seriously, they have thought of everything and then you also get healthy, glossy beautifully coloured hair. Everything is clearly labelled as you can see from the pic (yes, this is the aftermath of my dyeing for my channel), A is the colour, packed in a secure tube, the top of the lid has a puncture point to pierce the lid so the colour can be squeezed into the colour activator bottle, labelled B. I roll the colour tube down and into the activator, replace the lid and shake bottle B to mix the two.

Anyone who had used a hair dye at home will know that the gloves are precarious, I have had holes in some even before I have put them on, so, with this kit you get salon grade gloves, they are the best, seriously, after years of dyeing my fingers various hair dye shades these are luxury and very much appreciated. Pop these on and save them also for when you're washing out the colour.

Aside from the Salon grade gloves, this is another sign that every care and thought has been given to the customer, the kit includes a Protective Barrier Cream, no more dyed heads and ears, just me then. I even used cleansing balms to stem the dye, but, this is the proper stuff, it smells lovely and there is so much I often save the excess into a small screw lid pot and use another time. I apply this before I start using the dye and then add more after, it's just my way, you do what works for you, I find it makes me a little more careful and watchful of my application.

No one is perfect, even Mary Poppins admitted to that, practically but not completely, and we all have moments where we find a splodge of hair dye somewhere, neck, wrist, arms, hands, towels, bathroom walls, floors and yes once a tiny spot on the ceiling in my careless twenties when I flicked my hair around like a 'because you're worth it' advert. The answer to the dilemma of this, here they go again, thinking of your every need, Stain Removing Wipes, this can be used after you've added the dye and before the barrier cream if that's your way of applying. Even after, you know, an hour later and you spot that odd mark and realise it's the dye, hold the wipe onto the area and then rub gently, they are so good the stain is gone.

The Josh Wood Colour is a 30-minute treatment, I tie my hair up and get on with the housework etc, I set the alarm on my phone and count it from the time I am finished with applying the dye. I personally take the dye from my gloved hands, rather than applying it from the container straight onto my hair, I like the heat of my hands to help blend the product into the hair, I generally don't apply a lot through the last 4-5 inches of my hair, it already deeply coloured and I aim the colour where you see the regrowth at the roots. I don't section my hair at all, this dye proves you can have little or lots of skill and still achieve great colour and great hair.
After 30 minutes, you can put the Salon gloves back on and start rinsing the colour, I usually shower and wash the colour away until the water is clear, then the brand recommends you shampoo the hair and follow with their amazing Deep-Conditioning treatment, this silky formula I work through all my hair blending it into my roots and to the very ends and I leave it for as long as I can.
Rinse, and you have the silkiest, smoothest and lovely scented hair.

I always leave my hair to dry naturally, so, it's the waiting game until I have glossy, shiny hair, it's worth the wait. My hair doesn't feel weighed down by product, the colour is super long lasting and the colour has tone, depth and life.  You can even give hair a boost between dyeing it with the Shade Shots, blend with the Everything Mask and give hair an immediate lift in colour and texture. The everything mask, well, it is the stuff of legends and I'll be talking more about that at a later date.
So, home colouring doesn't get much better than this, after 30+ years adding colour to my hair, this is the best I've used and the most thoughtful, every detail has been considered.
So, box clever, choose your perfect shade from the Josh Wood range, you know you're dyeing too.

The method and processes I use to dye my hair work for me, the kit comes with an instruction leaflet to advise the best possible applications if you're just colouring re-growth or a full head of hair, read the leaflet first. Also patch test, always recommended with any hair dye.

From the age of 4, I wanted 'long hair', too many Rapunzel stories and the swishing of golden locks. My locks may have been dark, and now helped to be dark by the wonders of home dyeing, but, the dream was real. My mum believed long hair to equal hair skills, of which she had many, but, they formed her care routine for her short very thick hair, not my fine, widow's peaked hair and non-conforming follicles. I spent my early years with bobs, easy to brush and wash, my dreams of long hair lived out with long costume beads that I would hang on my head and trail down my back, swishing my imaginary princess hair.
When I came of an age that I could wash, brush and generally style my own hair, I grew it, long and down my back to my bum. But, it was fine, not the thick glossy hair, thin wispy hair, but I loved it. Fast forward through years of dyeing it, cutting it, regretting it and growing it again, to my late forties and the joy of middle age (is that still a term now, heaven knows, nothing appears allowed these days), anyway, I've aged, and my hair has got thinner.

Having tried a few 'make your hair healthier, thicker, luxurious', products and seen little improvement, I was delighted to have the offer of trying Nanogen. The brand has over ten years of experience curating a range of hair thickening and volumising salon-style products that give you salon hair, but, in the comfort of your own home.
I'm going to introduce the products and keep a diary throughout the time with updates of my hair experience.

The products I have to use are the Hair Mask - Hair Growth Factor Treatment, this weekly floral scented creamy multi-tasking product focuses on plumping and adding volume to the hair, it also cares for the scalp, which I don't feel I've experienced with other brands, the scalp is often a dried out problem, dandruff, you name it, so, my hopes for this mask are high in the care of hair stakes. Using Argan Oil, Keratin and Hyaluronic acid to restore damaged hair, reducing breakage and very importantly hydrate the scalp and hair, ingredients Pea Sprout, Redensyl and Peptides work towards stimulating the production of hair cells, revitalising follicles, supporting their sustained feeding so they grow and last longer and collagen stimulation around hair follicles which reduces the loss of hair. Visible results are suggested between 2-4 months if the product is used twice weekly, but, results may be seen after the first treatment.

My next Nanogen product is the Root Boost Hair Thickening Spray, this lifts, thickens, minimises colour fading - always a positive for the home dye girl that I am, and the signs of sun damage. Now, this lovely spray, packaged in the purple of the brand with gold accents has provided me with a dilemma, it is by no means essential but the product has added benefits when heat activated, basically, a hair dryer is useful and what haven't I used for over twenty years? you got it! (recommendations welcome).
The spray itself smells floral and in a rather comforting way, it smells of a hair salon, or at least my memory of one, hairspray, setting lotion, shampoo and hair dryers. Use after every wash, it is light and non-greasy, so, it can be used on wet hair, but, dry also and I am sure I could get some results even without a dryer, time will tell. Keratin works to give hair the fuller effect, protecting hair from UVA and UVB is phenylbenzimidazole sulfonic acid and green tea fights the free radical damage and stops its domino effect in its tracks.
It is easy to use and can be worked with how busy you are and how hair experienced you are, if the mere mention of blow drying your own hair has you running for the hills, well, don't panic, you can spray it onto damp roots for a lift, spray onto the lengths of the hair for an all over uplifting experince, which knowing how free I am when spraying (basically I get carried away) this is likely to be my method of choice, in both cases hair can be left to dry naturally or, if your more advanced than me and actually own a hairdryer, then blast, blow and style away. What I love is it can be used throughout the day adding oomph to hair.

Nanogen meet my hair, hair meet Nanogen, let the hair-raising journey begin!

CND is bringing the Summer vibe to their nail collection this 2018, with four shades designed to give fingers and toes that Spirit Of Summer.

CND Vinylux range of long wear nail polishes have some rather summery shades joining them this year, I have two that caught my eye, but, if you prefer yellow and tangerine tones they have those too, check out the range at Cult Beauty.  I chose a glorious peach shade called Uninhibited and the most pretty coral colour called Offbeat.
Having worn CND previously and featured it on my blog, check it out, here, I know the longevity and durability is something that many brands claim their products have, sadly, it's not always the case, but, these really do stand the test of time and housework, even gardening!
I tried the Coral shade and one coat gave great coverage and a true colour, the brush is shaped to make the application easy and I find the rounded head perfect when working towards the edge of the nail and there is no flooding of the cuticles with this, it is the perfect accent to the Summery weather, as the light changes, this really does stand out and will add a gorgeous finish to toes also, time to get those sandals out. Refreshing, bright and beautiful for long and short nails, it really is the Spirit of Summer. The peach polish is the softer, gentler option, a beautiful Summer's wedding shade, the colour of a sandy beach, one coat is an iridescent soft hue of peach, two coats gives the what you see in the bottle depth. Both shades are glossy, shiny and give nails that perfect finish.

The Vinylux range has a top coat that seals the colour and adds to the durability and colour longevity of the polish, the beauty of this is the small amount needed to work over the nail, rather than my often reached for the top coat that I pool onto my nails. I also use this as a base coat to protect the nails and give a smooth canvas for polish, a good option if you use darker shades, as I do generally, although, I find that CND polishes don't stain my nails.

Get Summer ready, time to add colour to those fingers and toes with CND

Dafna's Personal Skincare suddenly appeared, as if by magic, Social Media was awash with their range, especially the Revival Mask. As a fan of the traditional mask from a jar or tube this appealed to me, so, did this go beyond skin deep?

Give me a glass jar dark to protect the contents and I'm happy, something triggers in my brain when I have a substantial container offering me a blend of skin transforming product, the heavier the vessel, the more I believe in the miracle promised. Dafna's starts my belief with a glass jar, protecting products from UV and spatula, the journey begins. The Revival Mask is a combination of ingredients developed to give skin its vitality, softness, radiance and hydration back, it may not all be lost, but, it's there to help. Using Charcoal, Hyaluronic Acid, Ginseng and Reishi, this is a bi-phase mask, when first applied it is patted onto the skin,  the hydration of the skin is tackled, reviving and energising the skin leaving it brighter, plumper and smoother. The next phase is the blending of the mask onto the face using damp hands, this activates the charcoal capsules, balancing out the complexion, resulting in an even skin tone.

I love the smell of this bio-active mask, it is leafy with a fruity/floral note, the consistency is creamy with the tiny charcoal flecks. This creamy texture feels cool to the touch and is easily patted over the skin for the first stage of the application, then I dampen my hands and blend the mask, the charcoal 'bits'  pop and blend away, their grey wispy lines disappear like magic onto the skin. I remove the mask with a towelling cloth. I find this mask gentle enough to use 2-3 times a week, in my morning routine it really refreshes the face and leaves skin very smooth, as part of my evening routine it is a relaxing treat, I leave it for a little longer before blending away the charcoal and often lie with the warm cloth over my face, my skin always feels clean, refreshed and smoother. This is a treat for the face, a costly treat, it is a lovely, gentle mask, that smells good and leaves skin very soft & fresh, I love how clean it feels without leaving a tightness to the skin.

Treat your skin with Dafna's Revival Bio-Active Beauty Mask here  and here
