Presentation:

9:00am – 12:00pm – Stale Standalone to Superb SaaS in Single Session

Session Abstract:

Oracle Multitenant is the ideal architecture for world-class SaaS. If your application was originally developed for standalone deployment on-premises, Multitenant enables it to be deployed as SaaS with no code changes. If your application was born in the Cloud, those SaaS economies of scale typically came at the expense of isolation and agility, and probably performance as well. Multitenant allows you to regain that isolation, agility and performance, without sacrificing the economies of scale.

Session Outline:

This workshop will work through an example to demonstrate in detail how we deliver on this promise. The session includes both presentation and hands-on components.

Category:  Multitenant

Experience Level: All

Target Audience: Database Administrators, Developers, CxOs, Managers

Patrick Wheeler joined Oracle in 1986. He worked as Consultant and Consulting Practice Manager for several large financial institutions in London and San Francisco. He was closely involved with the development of Oracle CASE and was responsible for the worldwide launch of CASE and establishment of custom consulting practices in the early nineties.

In 1995, Mr Wheeler joined Siebel Systems and was a member of the Founder’s Circle. As Data Architect and Director of Data Modeling he oversaw the development of Siebel’s Data Model from Sales Force Automation startup to CRM juggernaut. He went on to establish the Reliability Engineering practice at Siebel Systems, guiding the product from pre-release instability to production release solidity. He has been awarded three US patents as Inventor.

Now back at Oracle, Mr Wheeler is Senior Director, Product Management, Oracle Database, with responsibility for Oracle Multitenant.

A huge thank you to:

  • The presenters who graciously share their time and expertise
  • The vendors whose support and participation make the conference happen
  • Every attendee who came eager  to learn, connect, collaborate, and make new friends; without your desire to discover and make a connection Training Days would not exist
  • The volunteers who ensure the event runs smoothly
  • The Pine Creek High School Students for being the next generation of technologists

The energy each of you brought to the new location was truly amazing and we are already looking forward to TD2019 – perhaps without the record-setting cold!

We need one more favor – please take just a few minutes to complete the conference evaluation.  We want to keep making Training Days a ‘can’t miss’ event and that only happens when we hear from you!  This is your opportunity to tell us what you liked, what you want more of, what you would change.

Keynote Presenter – Bruno Borges, Oracle Corporation

Rise of Cloud Developers and the New DBA Role

Architectural designs have shifted from monolithic applications to distributed Cloud-native microservices. Agile methodologies and the advent of DevOps practices combined with Cloud platforms have allowed developers to build modern applications in a much faster, productive and easier way. By having direct access to underlying infrastructure, databases and data management services, API security and many other services in a highly automated fashion, developers have much more control than they have ever had. In this session we will learn how Cloud has changed the way developers build applications, and at the same time understand the new role of the DBA.

From Brazil to the world! Bruno Borges has over 16 years of experience as an enterprise application developer, doing most of his code in Java, Javascript, and SQL. Since 2012 he is Oracle’s Principal Product Manager responsible for Developer Relations Strategy for Oracle Cloud, Java, Databases, governance of open source projects on GitHub, and all things application development with Oracle technologies. You can find him on Twitter @brunoborges. To know more about the Oracle Developer Community, follow @oracledevs.

Presentations:Session 1:

9:30am – 11:00amDBA 2.0 Is Dead. Long Live DBA 3.0!”

Session Abstract:
If you are an Oracle DBA who is wondering what the future of that role will look like, this session is the perfect antidote to ending your speculation. We will look at five key trends in the IT industry – Cloud, Big Data, IoT, Security, and Reshoring – and how they are impacting the role of the Oracle DBA within IT organizations. Most of all, this session will explain why it’s absolutely crucial to transform yourself into from DBA 2.0 to DBA 3.0 in 2017.

Session Outline:
We’ll discuss five key trends and their impact on the role of the Oracle DBA:
– Cloud: Caveat Nuba Emptor
– Big Data: Facts Replace Beliefs. (Sometimes Painfully.)
– IoT: Alexa, Buy Me a Dollhouse!
– Security: Building Better Levees Against the Storm
– Reshoring: Offshoring Meets Its Match

Category:  Database
Experience Level: Beginner
Target Audience: Database Administrators, Developers, CxOs, Managers

Session 2: “Stop Guessing, Start Analyzing: New Analytic View Features in Oracle Database 12cR2″

Session Abstract:
As experienced Oracle DBAs know, building a Data Warehouse is just the beginning of any successful application for performing complex analytics – you’ve also got to build the proper analytic views, fact tables, dimensions, and queries to make sense of the DW’s data. Oracle 12cR2 now provides a simple way to build out just the right objects for an analytics environment using just a few simple commands. Best of all, these new objects can incorporate all the needed measures and calculations so that an application end-user can take advantage of precisely-defined data models without having to construct complex views on their own, thus limiting the chance of producing erroneous analyses through a simple mistake like a missing join or filter.

Session Outline:
Through presentations and demonstrations, this session illustrates how to leverage the latest features of 12cR2 Analytic Views to:
– Build complex hierarchical relationships between data elements
– Enhance analysis techniques for use across multiple dimensions
– Leverage built-in functionality to quickly construct measures and metrics with a simple set of commands

  1. Introduction to Built-In 12cR2 Analytics Features
  2. Constructing Hierarchies and Relationships: CREATE HIERARCHY
  3. Adding Enhanced Dimensions: CREATE ATTRIBUTE DIMENSION
  4. Building Analytic Views: CREATE ANALYTIC VIEW
  5. Putting It All Together: Examples of the Power of Analytic Queries
  6. Conclusions

Objective #1:
The attendee will understand how to build complex hierarchical relationships and dimensions with simple 12cR2 commands.

Objective #2:
The attendee will discover how to quickly create complex analytic measures and metrics without having to build equally-complex queries.

Session Prerequisites:
To gain the most from this presentation, attendees should be familiar with basic data warehousing (DW) and decision support systems (DSS) concepts, including hierarchies, dimensions, fact tables, and materialized views.

Category:  Database, SQL, Exadata, Data Mining
Experience Level: Intermediate
Target Audience: Database Administrators, Developers
