The more I think about it, the more obvious it is that the education system is flawed. Of course, specific courses are valuable because they lead to specialized careers. But for the most part, the education system needs to make financial education more of a priority. In its current state, the subjects taught have no

I’m always looking for new ways to analyze my portfolio and share my perspective on dividend investing. As such, I decided to write a post about the business and culture of a dividend growth investor’s portfolio. If you’ve blogged for long enough, you’ve likely experienced difficulty with writers block before.

Admittedly, I found it challenging to stay motivated with blogging in December.

The ideas were available, however, the motivation to write was eluding me.

My interest in investing and saving money overshadowed my interest in blogging.

Candidly, I’ve even pondered the purpose of documenting my journey to financial independence publicly from time to time.

But then I remember that I prefer blogging over jobbing, and it’s important to have a creative outlet.

Nevertheless, a few recent e-mails reminded me that this blog is really starting to take form and find its existence.

But blogging is a long journey that requires resilience, sincere passion, and a specific purpose. Otherwise, most bloggers quit.

If blogging brings value to your life, though, you gotta do whatever the hell it takes to maintain motivation!

How An Upgrade To Your Blog Theme Will Provide A Refreshing Challenge
Click To Tweet
Upgrade your Blog Theme to document your Personal Portfolio

I upgraded the blog theme because I aspired for more of an online portfolio rather than a basic blog.

I also wanted to shift to a more business-like focus with blogging, similarly to my investment strategy.

Ultimately, my long term goal is to work from home as a full-time blogger, so it makes sense to incorporate appropriate business tactics.

Furthermore, it’s incredibly easy to create a professional looking WordPress blog nowadays.

Bloggers and Investors have remarkable tools available to create beautiful online portfolios, so why not start a blog?

When considering what blog theme to choose, it’s important to select a theme that appropriately and elegantly reflects your content.

In the case of RTC, changing the blog theme allowed for the creation of a static home page, which provided the opportunity to explain the blog at first point of contact.

In short, my new blog theme is a powerful tool to document, organize, and display new information pertaining to my personal investment portfolio.

A Refreshing Challenge

Interestingly enough, there are different stages of being a blogger.

Just like any other career, there is a process that needs to be completed before moving on to the next step.

You can’t jump from the front line position to the CEO role, nor can you vault from casual blogger to full-time blogger overnight.

You must experience all the steps in the process to reach an end goal, and the journey usually takes you farther than you expect.

“It’s been a journey, the NBA. It’s taken me a lot farther than I ever expected.” – Larry Bird

With that said, the concept of trying to monetize a blog seemed unfathomable early on in my blogging career.

It felt like selling out.

Admittedly, I would frown upon bloggers that were taking the sales approach, and I despised e-mail subscription pop-ups!

However, slowly but surely, my views have come around.

Simply put, I enjoy blogging enough that I want to spend more time working on it, so I understand the efforts of full-time bloggers.

Essentially, I’ve come to a point in my blogging career where I want to take the next step.

I’m not tryna humble brag or anything, but I’ve earned money from blogging before without seeking it out – I have proof of concept!

Although it’s not the primary reason for blogging, it’s become an enticing challenge to create “calls to action” that will increase income.

It may be wishful thinking, but 3 to 5 more years of hard work on this blog could turn it into a full-time career.

I’m looking forward to continuing to provide more of the same authentic content, but I’m also excited about the refreshing challenge!

Functionality

Of course, the main reason to upgrade your blog theme is to improve functionality.

Specifically, I implemented a static home page to capture the essence of Reverse The Crush upon arrival.

Based on the blog traffic derived from organic search in 2017, I anticipate that the static page will help attract more readers.

To be honest, the previous blog theme was extremely basic for a blog with over 200 posts.

It was sufficient in the beginning, but it become more problematic to display content as additional posts were published.

For example, the previous home page might’ve been confusing to organic search visitors. At least it would’ve required a lot more effort to navigate.

But now, the purpose of RTC is clear from the second visitors click home.

In addition, I divided the blog posts up into categories to make it more simple for returning readers to navigate.

Again, the amount of content published after 2 years of blogging called for better organization.

Concluding Thoughts

To be fair, I wrote about blog themes as an excuse to write about my new blog theme.

Truthfully, I would’ve kept blogging regardless of whether I upgraded the theme or not.

Nevertheless, an improved website could be the catalyst needed to overcome a blogging rut.

In conclusion, it may be worthwhile to modernize your blog theme if you’re struggling with blogger guilt.

Perhaps it’s the refreshing challenge that’s needed to stay in the blogging game.

Questions for the readers: Have you been motivated by upgrading your blog theme? What do you think of the new theme?

2017 was a poor year for the oil and gas industry. It was plagued by lower oil prices, bankruptcies, and the closure of refineries in major producing countries — all of which led to a bearish sentiment among investors. Stocks of oil and gas equipment, drillers, and producers were three of the worst performing sectors […]
