Noise is an environmental concern and can cause disturbance and stress over a period of time

Ideal solution for noise interference:

  • Busy road
  • Flight path
  • Social areas and night life
  • Bad weather

If your home or business is near a main road or busy area, noise reduction glass may be the choice for you.

Here is an example of the types of noises we’re talking about. Noise is measured in decibels:

Example sound decibels

Where can it be used?
  • External windows
  • Conservatory roof
  • Roof lights and glazed roofing – which even reduce noise of rain or hail

Not just for the outside. Our acoustic glass is also useful for reducing noise between internal rooms too, such as room partitions at home or even meeting rooms in the work place.

As traffic levels get worse and noise pollution increases, acoustic glass can significantly help free you from the din, helping you concentrate, sleep better or listen to your favourite music in peace!

How does it work?

Acoustic glass diagram

The highest noise insulation is achieved by using acoustic laminated glass.

Reflection – the noise is reflected back to the source

Absorb – The noise energy is absorbed by the glass

Two pieces of glass are bonded together with a transparent laminate layer between. The interlayer absorbs sound and reduces the level transmitted through the glass, helping to keep unwanted noise out or to keep noise in.

There are several ways we can improve noise vibration and sound reduction. We believe the best way is to replace standard units with thicker laminated glass in an insulated double glazed unit (the larger the gap between the glass panels, the better the sound insulation). This process helps to reduce the sound as though it is in the far distance rather than just outside your window.

Acoustic glass can be combined with other solutions too such as solar control, self-cleaning and decorative glass.

Acoustic laminated glass also brings other benefits too

  • Safety
  • UV protection
  • Acoustic comfort
  • Privacy
  • Design
  • Daylight comfort
  • Security

What type of exterior door do I buy? UPVC or a Composite? What’s the difference?

When we receive an enquiry for a new exterior door, a question we’re often asked is,

“What’s the difference between a UPVC door and a Composite door?”

Well, in our opinion it all comes down to two key factors; the price and the ‘look’ and finish of the final door product.

  • Both door fabrics are energy efficient and have benefits of next to no maintenance.
  • Both usually come fitted with hinges and ‘door furniture’ with a choice of letter plate and handle style
  • Both benefit from a Police approved multi-locking mechanism for added security.
  • Both come in a full range of design styles and colours, although Composite doors still have the edge when it comes to the number of colours you can select. But UPVC doors have come a long way in recent times.
  • Both can be fitted with a choice of energy efficient glass panels
  • Both have the option of self-colour frames, so you can select a matching colour to the door you choose or opt for a high contrast coloured frame
  • Both offer coordinating designs to match the front and back of your property.

Self-Colour UPVC Doors

UPVC Doors – key points

But let’s look in a little more detail. Starting with UPVC exterior doors – the reason the ‘look’ of the door as an influencing factor; is down to the way they are made. Basically the construction has to allow for a sash frame to be fitted into the sub frame to fill the full width of the door aperture. This gives the finished door a ‘narrow’ appearance; due to the way the frames are fitted together. The colour of the UPVC can change over time as it ages.

UPVC doors are generally cheaper to buy than Composite doors.

 Composite Doors – Key points

Self-Colour Composite Doors

The reason for difference in the ‘look’ of exterior Composite doors is due to the door construction. It is made as a solid piece, before fitting into a UPVC frame; therefore taking visual advantage of the full door aperture width within the door frame. Composite doors are more expensive to buy than UPVC due to the manufacturing methods used to create the durable composite material. They are super strong, with excellent thermal efficiency. They are available in a choice of long lasting colours with a wood grained finish.

What do I do next?

All of our windows and door are bespoke. Each of our customers has their own criteria when selecting a new front and back door. We help you through the process and help you to choose something that's right for your property and make the best from your budget.

Typically, choices surround Design, Colour, Style, glass options and price. Both UPVC and Composite doors are excellent quality and we are accredited and experienced fitters of all styles.

All our work is fully guaranteed

5 reasons to upgrade your locks, windows and doors

Of course, budget is important, we all want to ‘save money’ and only want to carry out work on a property when necessary. Trying to save money may actually cost money; when considering if to change the odd window or door in your home.

However, the savings you make may not be apparent until after you’ve gone through the process of upgrading all your windows and doors, here’s why:

Insurance – Are your locks in compliance with your home insurance policy? Many people over look this key reason for upgrading your windows, doors or locks. This is true for home and business. We supply anti-snap locks on external doors. We provide a choice of multi-locking mechanisms for windows as well as doors. Plus a choice of security hinges too, there are levels of security you can choose from. Our products and service is beyond a ‘standard offering’. It’s surprising; but many people aren’t aware that the level of protection offered by your window and door locks need to meet the requirements of your insurer. Failure to meet these requirements could mean that the insurance policy is invalid and result in any claims being rejected.

Energy efficiency - Did you know the windows and doors can be energy rated just like other items in your home? If your windows are misted up, it’s likely they have lost some of their efficient properties, not only obstructing your view but potentially losing heat too!

Technology is constantly moving forward and your double glazed windows also benefit from technological advancement. If you have old uPVC windows, new ones will benefit from updated glass and frames. You also have a choice of glass. For example Low Emissivity (Low-e) coated glass, lets the light and heat in; and retains the heat from the inside, excellent for energy efficiency! The gap between the double glazed panels is filled with an invisible gas or air and an air tight seal makes it work effectively. If a seal has perished, which will happen over time, the gap between the glazed panels is exposed to external conditions and is no longer efficient. Doors need to be maintained too; the seals and fitting correctly into the frame is key to efficiency as well as the materials and construction.

The ‘look’ of your home – Time can be cruel, sadly nothing lasts forever and without the right level of maintenance your home will decay just as  anything which has been neglected. A ‘cared for’ home is far more appealing than one that’s been left unattended. Changing your windows and doors can have a dramatic effect on the look of your home – here’s a recent example

Property Value – Whether you’re putting your house up for sale or just want to optimise its value, your windows and doors can influence the value of your home, an increase of around 10%, it will make it more saleable by improving the appeal!

Security - Another point when choosing your windows and doors is security. A primary point of access may be your windows, so make sure you choose windows suitable for your situation. Your choice of frame and glass should be considered per window; fitting toughened glass in more vulnerable areas too. Also fit window locks and police approved anti-snap external door locks. (See insurance notes above)

Reliable Locks&Window by Reliable Windows & Doors - 5M ago

During the summer months it’s great to have the doors and windows open and let the fresh air in!

A stable door is an ideal choice for homeowners when you need the benefits of a window and the security of a door. Keeping the pets and children safely inside while opening the top section for superb ventilation.

Matching Stable Door

Our customers like their Stable doors for a variety of reasons – “they’re quirky and look great!”

But our favourite reason so far is “We want a stable door so we can leave the top section open to welcome back the Swifts following migration” This was in an out building way up on the moors!

We offer external stable doors in both UPVC and Composite door materials, in a combination of made to measure styles and choice of colours to suit your property.

Whatever your reason for choosing one of our Stable doors; rest assured all our doors are guaranteed and will be the highest quality with security features fitted as standard!

Are stable doors as secure as a regular UPVC door or composite door?

Yes, they are! Even though they are constructed in two opening panels, our stable doors are fitted with a multi locking point mechanism for reliable security.

UPVC and composite stable doors differ slightly in construction. Top or bottom doors can be locked independently. However, when leaving the property and locking from the outside the UPVC door section will usually be locked by reaching inside, then locking the outside with one key. Whereas the composite door has the option to close and lock the door top or bottom independently or as ‘one complete door’.

Energy efficient stable doors

We recommend a thermal upgrade on any glass sections you want to include in your design, otherwise they are exactly the same as a regular UPVC and Composite doors

What colours are available?

We offer a full range of colour choices in both UPVC and Composite door styles. The standard colour is white and prices vary on other available colours

We think a new UPVC or Composite Stable Door adds style and convenience to any home, whether on a hill top farm or a terrace street – they look stunning!

All our work is guaranteed – we are qualified and professionally accredited.
We only fit good quality windows, doors with security and energy efficient features as standard. All our external door locks are police approved anti-snap

Misted up windows can  effect energy efficiency in your home

Don’t worry; very often it is only the seal in the double glazed unit or a fractured glass pane rather than the entire window that has deteriorated. Sadly double glazed windows don’t last forever!

What to look out for

A tell-tale sign of a blown window seal is condensation. This is visible between the glass panels, obscuring your view. There may also be visible mould, noise from outside which seems louder than in the past. To cut noise you can also use double or triple glazing units which also improve insulation.

The important thing for your home is temperature regulation and ventilation, achieved via well fitted functional windows. Here at Reliable Windows & Doors Ltd we carry out window and door maintenance checks throughout West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire borders; including Wakefield, Leeds, Halifax, Huddersfield and local areas, to ensure windows and doors open smoothly and close efficiently and double glazed panels are efficient.

Did you know the windows in your home can be energy rated just like other items in your home?

If your windows are misted up, it’s likely they have lost some of their efficient properties, not only obstructing your view but potentially losing heat too!

Technology is constantly moving forward and your double glazed windows also benefit from technological advancement. If your windows are old uPVC windows, they will benefit from updated glass and frames. Not all windows are the same; they come in a variety of qualities and standards.

Glass type

You have a choice of glass. For example Low Emissivity (Low-e) coated glass, lets the light and heat in; and retains the heat from the inside, excellent for energy efficiency!

The glass absorbs the heat and acts as a barrier to the cold. The gap between the glazed panels should be wide enough to activate the efficiency properties. The gap between the double glazed panels is filled with an invisible gas or air and an air tight seal makes it work effectively. If a seal has perished, which will happen over time, the gap between the glazed panels is exposed to external conditions and is no longer efficient.

Security

Another point when choosing your windows is ‘security’. A primary point of access may be your windows, so make sure you choose windows suitable for your situation. Your choice of frame and glass should be considered per window; fitting toughened glass in more vulnerable areas too.
