Among global fast-fashion players, H&M has long distinguished itself via designer collaborations. Their first was a collection designed by the late Karl Lagerfeld — and it sold out in seconds. Then there was that top secret Giambattista Valli couture capsule which damn near broke the internet. Its latest designer pairing is the first of its kind for the retailer. On Monday, WWD announced H&M is bringing its fashion designer collaboration initiatives to China, and designer Angel Chen has created a 45-piece capsule with the retailer’s design available in September.

“When I was designing the capsule, my priority was to reflect Chinese culture and my brand identity in a meaningful way, sell through became secondary,” 28-year-old Chen said. “I chose some iconic looks from my archive, and gave it an update in colorway, material and details. For example, we used 100 percent recycled nylon mesh fabric to construct my bodysuit, and that came out of a discussion I had with H&M on how to integrate sustainability into my brand.”

Chen is a Central Saint Martins-trained designer. She's interned for Marchesa, Vera Wang and Alexander Wang in New York. She is stocked in 30 retailers internationally including Lane Crawford , Luisa Via Roma, H. Lorenzo and Dong Liang. Her collection with H&M will be a “summary of her greatest hits.” Chen tells H&M her collection is based on the spirit of Chinese martial arts, commonly known as Fung Fu. Pine tree, bamboo, dragon and crane motfis will decorate the colorful and easy-to-wear parka, hoodie and T-shirts. The collection will retail from $8.58 to $216.57.

“Angel Chen is a pioneer Chinese designer brand with its colorful approach to fashion coupled with the brand’s core concept of fusion of Eastern and Western aesthetics,” Magnus Olsson, country manager of H&M Greater China, tells WWD. Chen “is one of the brightest young talents in China and we are very excited for this collaboration," Olsson continues. "We hope to arouse more public attention to the Chinese young designers’ creativity and influence within the Chinese as well as international fashion industries.”

Comic-Con season never disappoints. The annual pop culture extravaganza always makes headlines, largely thanks to its highly anticipated movie trailer drops and major superhero casting news. This year’s event was bursting with big announcements, especially for all the Marvel fans out there. Natalie Portman is re-joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe to take on the role of Thor, Goddess of Thunder. Scarlett Johansson is getting her own Black Widow origin film. And Angelina Jolie and Mahershala Ali are among the list of stars joining the MCU in forthcoming movies.

Beyond bringing all the entertainment buzz, Comic-Con also delivers on the fashion front. Because the event is one giant tribute to all things fandom, celebs often wear ensembles that are a bit more playful and daring than what you’d see at an awards show red carpet. From Camila Mendes to Tessa Thompson, many of our favorite style stars had big sartorial moments in San Diego.

Classic black and white silhouettes reigned supreme, but there were some bright pops of color, too. (Kristen Bell in head-to-toe hot pink? Yes, please.) On the menswear side, no tuxedos were in sight — instead, we got dark green patterned suits and bold accessories like yellow fanny packs and leather sneaks. Ahead, we highlight some of the best fashion moments from Comic-Con 2019 to give you the style inspo you need all summer long.

Tessa Thompson

Tessa dropped a big hint at Comic-Con this year, revealing that her Marvel character Valkyrie "needs to find her queen." At the event, she looked rather regal herself, opting for an all-white ensemble with lush layers and bell sleeves.

Photo: Albert L. Ortega/Getty Images.

Lili Reinhart

You'll be hard-pressed to spot Lili in one of Betty Cooper's cardigans. Her personal style is classic but with a twist, like this elegant midi-length frock accessorized with black block heels and a thin statement belt.

Photo: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images.

Danai Gurira

The Black Panther star made a major statement, opting for a black and white dress with a high-neck mesh cut-out. Black patent leather boots and silver jewelry completed her look.

Photo: Albert L. Ortega/Getty Images.

Camila Mendes

A structured corset paired with plaid shorts may not be the most conventional red carpet look, but that's precisely what made it perfect for Comic-Con. Black stilettos and a diamond necklace elevate the Riverdale star's ensemble.

Photo: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images.

America Ferrera

A little black dress is always a safe bet. Superstore star America's choice of accessories — a thick belt and metallic heels — make it that much more of a red carpet winner.

Photo: Joe Scarnici/FilmMagic.

Kristen Bell

Not many people can pull off head-to-toe pink without looking like a bottle of Pepto, but then again, not everyone is Kristen Bell. We particularly love those strappy pink heels on the Good Place actress..

Photo: Araya Diaz/Getty Images.

Chloe Bennet

Who knew tweed could be so fun? This pink-and-blue minidress strikes the right balance between playful and polished for this Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star.

Photo: Albert L. Ortega/Getty Images.

Mahershala Ali

The star of the forthcoming Blade movie looked dapper in a dark green patterned suit layered over a cream T-shirt. The baseball cap and crisp white sneaks keep the outfit just casual enough.

Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images.

Brian Tyree Henry

There's no such thing as too many accessories when you're at Comic-Con. Brian (tapped for Marvel's Eternals) definitely got that memo when he burst onto stage wearing a fedora, fanny pack, leather sneakers, and layered necklaces.

Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images.

Chris Hemsworth

Let's be honest: Thor himself could wear literally anything and pull it off. But there's something about a classic blue suit — complemented by a matching tie and button-up shirt — that has us swooning.

The fact that the general public rarely sees or hears Melania Trump leads to a lot of speculation — particularly when it comes to her wardrobe, and what it may (or may not) mean. Is her penchant for wearing white a subliminal alignment with the suffragette movement? Did she wear a hot pink pussy-bow blouse to the second 2016 presidential debate to troll her husband?

No one truly knows. But despite the fact that Trump has chosen to stand next to her husband, the President, while he's insulted sexual assault victims, and has made inflammatory remarks about women, immigrants, Blacks, the news media, and more, the internet continues to impose narratives on her clothing choices. So perhaps that's why, when Anna Wintour was asked if she valued Melania's role as transatlantic fashion ambassador of sorts during an interview with Anne McElvoy on The Economist's podcast, she chose to talk about former First Lady Michelle Obama instead.

Which first lady wore the role best? Anna Wintour talks politics and fashion with @AnneMcElvoy on “The Economist asks” podcast https://t.co/0mHlLjtf06 pic.twitter.com/gIoUpd3teo

— The Economist (@TheEconomist) July 21, 2019

“I think first lady Michelle Obama really was so incredible in every decision she made about fashion,” Wintour tells The Economist. “She supported young American designers. She supported designers, indeed, from all over the world. She was the best ambassador this country could possibly have in many ways, obviously, way beyond fashion.”

When McElvoy pushed about Melania, reminding her “But she’s not the first lady now. “So what about the one you’ve got now?”

Wintour responded: “To me she [Obama] is the example that I admire.” The longterm edtrix's reply isn't surprising considering in April she told CNN that she would “take a stand” and not give the current FLOTUS (a former model) a cover. Melania's then-spokeswoman and new White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham responded with an underhanded statement.

“To be on the cover of Vogue doesn’t define Mrs. Trump, she’s been there, done that long before she was first lady,” Grisham said. “Her role as first lady of the United States and all that she does is much more important than some superficial photo shoot and cover,” she added. “This just further demonstrates how biased the fashion magazine industry is, and shows how insecure and small-minded Anna Wintour really is.”

2019 has been a big year for Ji Won Choi, a Seoul-born designer who studied fashion design in New York and Paris. Back in February, her first collection with adidas Originals debuted at London Fashion Week to rave reviews. In April, Beyoncé wore one of Choi’s designs — a red, long-sleeve bodysuit — to announce that she’s relaunching her own athleisure line, Ivy Park, with Adidas. It was a moment that Choi herself admits will be difficult to top.

“Seeing Beyoncé in one of my designs was the highlight of my career so far,” Choi tells Refinery29. “I’m not sure what else I can do to top this. I was walking on the streets of NYC to meet a friend when it happened. I remember I had to walk into the closest bar to just sit down, calm myself, be present, absorb, and appreciate what was happening.”

While a Beyoncé endorsement is the pinnacle of success for most designers, it’s only the beginning for Choi. Her second collection with adidas Originals is set to drop July 27 online and in flagship locations globally.

In its entirety, the collection explores the idea of movement while reimagining the iconic adidas Originals 3-stripe mark through the lens of sport and culture. The silhouettes celebrate Choi’s Korean heritage while incorporating her unique personal design philosophy.

“I was traveling for research, and I saw the Adidas three stripes in the most remote villages of Myanmar,” Choi explains. “I was so impressed [with] how global Adidas is. Bringing in my cultural Korean references was also important, because it’s a bold move of Adidas to choose a Korean-American designer to collaborate with such a global brand.”

For the second iteration of her partnership with adidas Originals, Choi ventured away from the vibrant colors that marked her first collection, instead opting for a completely monochromatic palette.

“The monochromatic black and white palette is important because the silhouettes of the garments are so versatile, but not everyone is up for bright green, fuschia, or red,” Choi says. “Black and white creates a completely different vibe. The colors create this fun, youthful vibe, and black and white creates more sophisticated, versatile options. It was important to give consumers the option to play [around] to create their own perfect look with the collection.”

Of the 13 pieces in this second collection, Choi identified one item that’s the clear frontrunner.

“My favorite piece is definitely the jacket with the oversized sleeves with the three stripes hanging down,” she shares. “It’s such a statement piece that really speaks to my design aesthetic while remaining very Adidas. It’s unique, interactive, and fun. I truly believe fashion is about embracing individuality, and that jacket will help anyone achieve that.”

Choi described her creative partnership with Adidas as “an absolute dream.” It’s also proved to be a formidable challenge for the up-and-coming designer.

“I’ve loved the opportunity to push myself because I’d never designed streetwear or tracksuits before,” she says. “I’ve enjoyed being immersed in this world of fashion that’s so relevant and modern. I never would have designed streetwear if it weren’t for this collaboration with Adidas, and I appreciate them for pushing me and teaching me in this direction that speaks to the modern consumer.”

It’s summertime and the livin’ is...too damn hot. Even though we would rather sit naked in front of the AC when temperatures hit those triple-digits, we still have to go on about our real lives and wear layers of clothing on our perspiring and clammy bodies. To make the stifling humidity more bearable for our sartorial sensibilities, we went straight to the folks at Athleta, Uniqlo, and fabric specialist Lizzie Harper for their expertise on all matters of breathable clothes for the dead thick of summer. No slinky tank tops and micro minis here! Ahead, get the real lowdown on the cooling textiles and fibers that truly combat the heat. It’s muggy out there, but your outfits don’t need to be in a sticky situation.

At Refinery29, we’re here to help you navigate this overwhelming world of stuff. All of our market picks are independently selected and curated by the editorial team. All product details reflect the price and availability at the time of publication. If you buy something we link to on our site, Refinery29 may earn commission.

What To Look For: Linen
If you’re not already on the linen train, this magical, absorbent fabric is guaranteed to change your life (at least when it comes to those steamy days). “Linen is made out of the flax plant, so the fibers come directly from the stalk of the plant, whereas cotton is just the fluffy part of the flower,” says fabric specialist Lizzie Harper. “So linen has more structure and holds its shape better than a lot of other flimsy fabrics — it stands away from the body, so it isn’t as clingy.” Tracy Barnes, innovation manager at Athleta, agrees that linen is summer’s ultimate fabric: “It’s ultra-breathable and lightweight, and the looser fit designs also allow air to flow, for even more comfort.” The only flip side is that because linen holds its shape, it wrinkles quickly. Look for a linen-cotton blend if you’re searching for a more office-friendly fabric (that is, if you’re basically sitting down all day).

Designed by Elliot Salazar.

What To Look For: Mesh & Eyelet
The best thing you could do for your body when it begins sweating profusely is to allow air to cool off the skin. “Eyelet is a no-brainer in the summer because there are literally holes embroidered in the fabric to let air pass in and out,” says Harper. “The movement of air over your skin is what cools you down, so keep it breezy!” Besides eyelet, the other kind of holes-all-over style to consider is mesh. “There's a reason athletes wear mesh, even if it's made from a not-super-breathable fiber like polyester,” continues Harper. “With so many holes, mesh can weigh half as much as a regular solid fabrication.” The only other item that mesh and eyelet pieces require? A trusty bra.

Designed by Elliot Salazar.

What To Look For: Performance Fabric
Take style cues from outdoor athletes and stock up on pieces made from performance fabrics. After all, if these blends can keep super-active folk dry and cool, they will most definitely perform for the everyday wearer. These days, brands like Uniqlo and Athleta are manufacturing chic, non-sporty-looking pieces that borrow fabric technology from activewear.

“Athleta’s Featherweight Stretch is an amazing summer performance fabric,” says Barnes. “It’s an ultra-light, drapey fabric that is ideal for pants — it wicks, breathes, dries quickly, provides UPF 50+ protection, is wrinkle-resistant, and packable.” In other words, it’s an ideal piece for the stickiest days.

Over at Uniqlo, LeAnn Nealz, the brand’s chief creative officer, recommends pieces from the AIRism line, which are also heavily influenced by sportswear. “They have stretch, are cool to the touch, and have breathable fabric that minimizes perspiration and odor,” she says. “They are the perfect item to layer under everything or wear on their own.” Look closely at the fabric breakdown of AIRism and you’ll see key fibers present, such as cupro, which is ideal for summer. “Cupro is super-slinky and silky-feeling, and it’s performance-acting, but doesn’t necessarily look like exercise wear,” says Harper. “It’s a good time to be looking at performance wear, because these fibers pull moisture and humidity away from the body, and then pushes it out the other side.”

Designed by Elliot Salazar.

What To Look For: Crinkled Textures
The thing about crinkled textures that makes them super-ideal for hot weather is that these fabrics don’t cling to the body. “Look for cotton crepe — crepe just means that the yarn is twisted extra-tightly so that it has this crimped texture rather than the yarn being straight and smooth,” says Harper. “Crepe drapes in a different way and tends to stand away from the body, since most of the fabric isn’t touching the skin. Crepe cotton is actually a lighter fabric than linen, and it’s one of the most absorbent fibers, so it can pull some moisture away.”

Designed by Elliot Salazar.

What To Look For: Silk
Here’s the thing about silk. While it’s not really the most breathable fabric, it is still what you’ll want to wear if you’re dressing up for an event like an outdoor summer wedding. “Silk is not super-absorbent because it’s a protein fiber — it comes from an animal (the silkworm) whereas linen or cotton are vegetable fibers that absorb,” says Harper. “Silk is the lightest fabric though, and it tends to adjust to your body temperature, which is also why silk can be worn to keep you warm in the wintertime.” So while silk is still a popular fabric to wear for the summer, be mindful of sweat stains on a super-sticky day.

You heard the weather report: this weekend's gonna be a scorcher. All across the country, temperatures are expected to hit an all time high, with many reaching those dreaded triple digits. But while a majority of the population can simply hit up their local community pool, country club, or backyard to escape the blazing heat, us New Yorkers don't have quite the same variety of options. Here, we do pool parties a little differently. Finding the best poolside 'fit (and a great swimsuit to match) is our top priority — and we accessorize with lots of sunscreen, drinking water, and occasionally a handbag full of Prosecco.

But back to your outfit: at first thought, putting together a pool party ensemble should be as easy as bikini + cover up + sandals. But in reality, when you consider the location, weather, and — let's face it — potential for a winning Instagram shot, the pressure to look your best starts to build. So, before this weekend's heatwave finds you unprepared, get some inspo for the perfect poolside outfit ahead.

At Refinery29, we’re here to help you navigate this overwhelming world of stuff. All of our market picks are independently selected and curated by the editorial team. If you buy something we link to on our site, Refinery29 may earn commission.

This leopard print cover-up will have you feeling easy breezy no matter how hot it gets this weekend.

Sometimes all your pool party look needs is a padded headband and some heeled flip flops to take it to a whole new level.

Turn your silk scarf collection into a new slew of pool-ready bikinis with this slick trick.

Hot girl summer is well underway as proven by this pool-ready ensemble.

Nothing says pool party season like a watermelon beaded bag, am I right?

Who knew your PJs could double as top notch pool party attire?

Fact: two caftans are always better than one.

It's a well-known fact that pool parties and pastels go hand-in-hand. Keep your look from getting a little too Wolf of Wall Street by pairing it with some casual white linen or cotton additions. Boat shoes prohibited.

What's easier to throw on than a romper? Add rainbow stripes, puffy sleeves, and a pair of kickass cowboy boots and you'll be the best dressed attendee at every poolside soiree this weekend.

These lounge pants might not last too long in the 100+ degree heat, but hey, at least you got in a good shot.

Who else is tie- dying to dive into the pool right now? Sorry, we had to.

No shirt, no shoes, no problem.

Sometimes all you need for the perfect pool day is a really (really) big hat.

Or a really, really, really big hat.

Heading somewhere directly after? Here's the perfect dress to take you from pool day to a fun night out.

A red lip and red headband combo goes a long way. Throw in a simple polka dot slip dress and you'll be good to go.

We may be several decades past the heyday of The Beatles, but that hasn’t stopped the iconic band from having a cultural moment in 2019. The recent movie Yesterday, for one, explores what a world without The Beatles’ music might look like. And now, we’ve got an entire line inspired by Yellow Submarine, the group’s landmark hand-drawn film that celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. Stella McCartney — designer extraordinaire and daughter of Paul McCartney — recently debuted the “All Together Now” collection, which reimagines the film’s vibrant, colorful spirit for a new generation.

“I found that I was removing myself from the fact that it was family, and just finding myself as a fashion designer watching a piece of material that was massively and emotionally effective to me,” Stella explained in a press release. “We pulled apart the music, the lyrics, the psychedelia, and the comedy, and turned them into something new.”

Billie Eilish recently wore a custom set from the collection during her first ever performance at Glastonbury. Additionally, Stella worked on a new film for the “All Together Now” campaign, described as “a psychedelic adventure through a colorful world and a celebration of the power of music, capturing the playfulness and irreverence that are core to the Stella McCartney DNA.”

“It’s shockingly modern, what those four young guys did,” Stella said. “The beauty of the lyrics blows me away.”

The designer will branch out beyond her role as a fashion mogul with an upcoming guest DJ appearance on SiriusXM’s The Beatles Channel (channel 18) on Friday, July 19 at 11 a.m. ET. She’s set to play some of her favorite songs from the band’s vast discography, with replays on July 19 at 10 p.m. ET, July 20 at 3 p.m. ET, July 21 at 11 a.m. ET, July 24 at 12 a.m. ET, and July 25 at 1 p.m. ET.

The “All Together Now” collection is available online and in Stella McCartney stores. For women, prices range from $325 to $2,875. For men, ready-to-wear ranges from $295 to $6,840.
