For those of you following my plant & gardening adventures as I volunteer once a week at Arley Hall Gardens, here’s a little Summer update!
Tropical beauties outside The Vinery greenhouse
A beautiful Hydrangea
A shot of Arley Hall
The Arbour Garden looking stunning in the sunshine
I had some new work photos captured for the design courses I teach over on Make it in Design & specifically for a new floral & nature course. Being in England it rained like crazy! Here’s one from inside the lovely The Vinery greenhouse though.
Home style vibes with my ‘Cinque Terre Bloom’ cushion, ‘Shapes & Squares’ wallpaper in the background & a little peek at my ‘Organic Origin’ design ottoman.
I’m currently doing a little more research on Buenos Aires for my design trip in November but I’m very excited & especially can’t wait to explore the colourful streets in & around La Boca. Have you been before? What else would you recommend a designer / colour lover / pattern addict go see!? I’ll be sketching & gathering inspo for work projects too. Havana is my ultimate designer heaven & I think it’s accidentally & slowly becoming my second home so I wonder how Buenos Aires will compare!?
Potential Havana Retreat / Workshop info
Creative friends! As you know I love travel & live & breathe design & my next overseas workshop / retreat will be hosted over at the fab @1440multiversity in California during March 2020 (tickets due to go on sale soon).
More recently & kind of accidentally I’ve had a lot of upcoming / potential career opportunities occur for me over in Havana! It’s early days yet but sometimes the universe works her magic without you even realising it. Anyways I’m also considering hosting a retreat / workshop out in Havana!!! 8 – 10 participants maximum (currently researching it all). Think guided photo tours to explore the best of Havana that’s also off the beaten track teamed with drawing & design workshops, Cuban bars, rum tasting & lots of salsa dancing! I’m looking at potential dates of Nov / Dec 2020! What do you think?
I’m a lucky creative to have made so many friends & connections over in Havana & I just can’t wait to inspire other creatives & show them the Cuban magic whilst they get to explore the destination with me & alongside safe & local experienced guides (& potentially an epic photographer!). My own Havana experience has been such a game changer for my design work & I want to share my Havana passion with you. Just putting it out there for now… Let me know what you think!? DESIGN RETREAT / WORKSHOP in HAVANA!?

Cheshire Living Magazine feature
Rachael received a lovely feature in Cheshire Living magazine. Within the article Rachaels talks all things colour & design for your home, giving you lots of insight & tips from a designer’s perspective. Rachael’s sister site Make it in Design also gets a lovely little mention. With special thanks to Andrew Moore for the insightful questions. You can read the magazine for free here.

We shared recently that I will be exhibiting my work at RHS Tatton Park but we have some more exciting updates!
At the show I will be launching a brand new custom order fabric service!
I’m also thrilled to share that I’ve been commissioned to design their Colouring Garden! I’ll be illustrating some lovely colouring pages & using some styling magic to create a beautiful creative space for all to enjoy.
I’ve been going through some of my photos from my last Floral Print Motif Workshop & they are a lovely reminder of the fab day I had & the wonderful group that attended. It’s not that often that I host in-person workshops (only 4 a year) but when I add them to the schedule each year it always puts a smile on my face; there’s always a fuzzy warm feeling that I get as I prep for each workshop from selecting the flowers & the yummy cakes to anticipating what lovely creatives that I will get to meet. I purposely cap the number at 8 participants per class so the group feels more relaxed & intimate & I very much feel like it’s an amazing creative treat & relaxing day for myself too.
If you’d like to find out more about the workshop from a participants perspective then you can check out Claire Ingram’s blog for her experience of the day. Below is a little extract:
“At the end of the day, I had created heaps of floral motifs to scan and edit and work up into patterns on Illustrator. But most importantly, I came away inspired, energised and filled with faith, that yep, I could do it too. When you’re creating work and putting yourself on the line, it’s all too easy for self doubt to creep in, you think ‘you’re not good enough”, ‘not talented enough’, ‘too many other people out there already’ and these moments of crisis in confidence can become crippling. But Rachael instilled some wisdom: to make my work unique, and made me feel that there is space out there for everyone, as long as you’re creating from your own authentic voice.”
You can find out more about this magical day of florals, drawing, delicious treats & design industry insight in my brochure.

*Participants will just be asked to pay the hall&/or gardens small entrance fee.
I’m also so pleased to announce that my sister company Make it in Design & I will be using the Arley Gardens as the location & back drop for the filming of a brand new, online design course coming this year! More information to be revealed soon!
THANK YOU to those who responded to the questions that I posted around my book research. I have another favour & question to ask because I’m a little cheeky like that! Naturally my book is pattern related (more on that later as it’s a bit top secret for now!)
For the pattern design lovers amongst you what would be your dream pattern-based book be like & what content would you like to see in it? If you could kindly post you comments that would be wonderful.
I promise to deliver the most exciting pattern design based book for you! The content is already juicy & the design layout / concepts are looking dreamy (the project has been on hold around other work commitments but I’m finally back on it with it now). Wish me luck!
I adore teaching through online design school Make it in Design but it really is an extra treat when I get to host an in-person workshop! I tend to only run around 4-5 a year due to other work commitments but it is such a joyful thing to call ‘work’.
I’m always blessed with a truly gorgeous, talented group of creatives too! I purposely only accept 8 maximum on these classes so it feels more intimate & relaxed & I find folks can connect more that way.
I was also lucky enough to be able to use blooms that I’d taken (with permission) from Arley Hall & Gardens (where I volunteer once a week – you can read more about my plant adventures here on the blog or follow me on @plantgirliris). About 90% of the blooms & foliage you see below came from the gorgeous Arley gardens & the other 10% was from my own garden & I had so much fun styling them up for the class!
