Valid

I got completely mixed up over dates for this month's design challenge, so I'm afraid I didn't post the details last week.  I'll add a week to the closing date, too.

This month's design challenge theme is Picnic Time - what would summer be without a picnic!

Your design can be based on picnic scenes, food, etc etc, on appropriate colour schemes or design - whatever it means to you.

As usual, designs will be shown on Facebook and the blog at fat quarter size (and, if appropriate,  also at swatch size).  The closing date will be July 23rd.   The entries will be displayed on July 25th.

If you'd like to make your design public, order a swatch using voucher code Picnic.  This will enable you to order without paying.  I won't print the fabric, but you will then be able to make it public.  The code is valid until July 23rd.

FULL  DETAILS:

Please upload your challenge designs to your account on our website.  If you haven’t already got an account, it’s simple to set up.  You just need an email address, password and name, which can be your own name, a nickname or a business name.  (You will be prompted to log in or create an account when you try to save your design.)  Then email me at admin@printmepretty.co.uk, to tell me the name of your account and design.  (So I can find the right one!)  This is the name you use on your account, please.  It's the one on the black ribbon at the top of the screen when you log into your account.  I need this name to find your design.  There's no need to send me a link as this will not work until your design has been made public.  Without the correct name, it is very time-consuming for me to find your design, so your entry may not be included.

You may also upload your design to our Facebook page.  I will put any not already uploaded onto Facebook after the closing date.   In case you're wondering about the order in which designs are listed on Facebook, the first to arrive in my inbox goes at the top, with the rest listed in the order in which they are sent in.   We may select one or two to put into our competition winners slot.  If you're on Instagram, you can post your design there, with the hashtag #pmpdesignchallenge.  I may regram some of them.  (Likes from there won't be counted.)

If you'd like to make your design public, order a swatch using voucher code Picnic.  This will enable you to order without paying.  I won't print the fabric, but you will then be able to make it public.

So, the challenge is:  Create a design suitable for printing on fabric based on Picnic Time!

Technical matters:

Your design should be at a resolution of at least 150 dpi, but not more than 300, using RGB colour space.

When it comes to printing, the repeat options are:  Straight, Centre, Half-drop, Half-brick and Mirror.  Once you’ve uploaded your design to our website, you can play around with the repeats to see which one will look best.  For pictures of what the different repeats look like, check this blog post.

To take part:

Upload your design onto our website by Tuesday, July 23rd, giving it a title.  Email me at admin@printmepretty.co.uk, telling me the title of your design and the name of your account.  You can also say a little about the inspiration behind your design, if you wish.

The closing date for receiving designs is midnight on Tuesday, July 23rd, after which designs will be displayed (at the fat quarter size) on Facebook and on the blog.  Any designs uploaded to Facebook after the closing date may be removed.

By entering, you agree to our challenge terms and conditions.

You may only submit one entry, which must be your own work and based on the theme Picnic Time!  ‘Your own work’ means any form of original art work, photography, etc which you have produced. Your design should not have been entered in one of our previous competitions or challenges.

All entries will be displayed, unless we feel that the subject matter is inappropriate.  Copyright will remain with you, but by entering the challenge, you give us the right to use your design in any way we wish on our web site and social media, for advertising purposes.

All designs entered into the challenge may be made public on our web site without charge and will be available for sale.   The designer will be paid £2 per metre commission on any sales of the design.

Over to you!

Calling all fans of fabric-based crafts!

Have you been to the Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace?

Would you like to go?

I'm planning to go this October.  (Sadly, I'll be away for the Handmade fair, my absolute favourite craft fair, so I shall go to the K&S instead.)

The show is packed full of wonderful displays, workshops and, of course, a multitude of shopping opportunities!  For a better idea of what it's like, read my report of the last show in March - but the October show is bigger and better!  It runs from October 10th to 13th.

If we go as a 'group', we get our tickets for £11.50, instead of £15 for an adult ticket bought in advance.  (£19 on the door!)  .  We don't actually have to go together, although it would be a good opportunity to meet up.  We can even go on different days.  I'm planning to go on the Friday, but you can go any day.  (If you go another day, or want your ticket in advance so that you can get there when the show opens at 9.30, then please add £1 for p&p, and I'll pop your ticket in the post.)

If you would like to join us, please drop me an email and send your payment via Paypal, using admin@printmepretty.co.uk.  If you would like an invoice, let me know when you email and I'll send one to you after July 10th.

We need at least 10 people to form a group, so I'm going to put a deadline of August 31st.  If I haven't got 10 people by then, I'll send your money back.

We had three entries to the Butterflies and Dragonflies design challenge this month.  Showing them from lightest to darkest, with fat quarter followed by swatch, they are:

Blossom Fabric by Kelly Woodward

Pink Butterflies by Hilary Miller

and:

Butterflies and Dragonfly by Anna Alekseeva.

These are lovely designs.  Please let us, and the designers, know if you like them, either below or on Facebook.

Thanks to our three designers.  If you're thinking, 'I could do that!', then look out for our next challenge at the beginning of July.  (You can find the next few themes and closing dates here.)

It's time to sign up for our July Fabric Fun Craft Club box!

We're planning a nice relaxing evening in July - sewing for a summer's evening!  We're going to make yoyos and make a fabric flower garland and a bouquet of flowers.  You can do this outside if the weather's good, you can take it on holiday, you can get the kids involved.

Yoyos (also known as Suffolk puffs) are easy to make and can be used in many ways, to make toys and decorations, to decorate cushions and quilts and to make flowers.

Your box will include everything you need: lots of fabric, needle and thread, buttons for the centre of the flowers, ribbon for the garland, or you can make your own fabric 'string', canes for your flower bouquet.    Full tuition will be provided live via our private Facebook group, with a summary included in the box.

You can find out more about the club in this blog post.

Boxes cost £20.

To order a box and join in with the fun, please email admin@printmepretty.co.uk. Boxes must be requested and paid for by June 25th.

Boxes will be sent out about 9th July and club night next month will be on Tuesday, July 16th at 8pm.  See you there!

It's challenge time again.  This month's design challenge theme is Butterflies and Dragonflies.  You can go for accurate portraits of these much loved flying insects, maybe a cartoon version, or concentrate on patterns and colours.  It's up to you!

As usual, designs will be shown on Facebook and the blog at fat quarter size (and, if appropriate,  also at swatch size).  The closing date will be June 18th.   The entries will be displayed on June 20th.

If you'd like to make your design public, order a swatch using voucher code FLY.  This will enable you to order without paying.  I won't print the fabric, but you will then be able to make it public.  The code is valid until June 18th.

Here are the themes for our design challenges for the next few months.  The first date is the launch date, when, as usual, I'll give you the full details.  The second date is the closing date.

Theme Date 1 Date 2
Butterflies & Dragonflies 06-Jun 18-June Beautiful flying creatures, gorgeous designs, amazing colours.
Picnic time 04-July 16-Jul Outdoor eating at its best - or worst!
Stately homes 08-Aug 20-Aug Buildings, gardens, occupants
Blue & white 05-Sep 17-Sep Any design using blue(s) and white

I'll give full details of the challenge on the launch date.  Please don't email designs ahead of the launch date for any of the challenges, just in case something has to change.  If I do ever change a theme, the original theme will be rescheduled, so don't throw away your design in disgust!

You can see entries from some of our previous challenges in our Market Place.

I look forward to seeing your designs.

It's time to sign up for our June Fabric Fun Craft Club box!

In June, we're going to be trying applique, using a sewing machine.

You'll be able to decorate a beach bag and make personalised luggage labels, all using your new applique skills.

Your box will include everything you need: a partly made beach bag with a snap fastener, fabrics, bondaweb, thread,  extra fabric, bias binding and wadding to make luggage labels, templates and instructions.  The bag will be made of our 195gsm cotton, lined with waterproof fabric.  It will only be partly made so that you can add your applique.  Then you will need to finish making up the bag.  Full tuition will be provided live via our private Facebook group, with a summary included in the box.

You can find out more about the club in this blog post.

Boxes cost £25.

To order a box and join in with the fun, please email admin@printmepretty.co.uk. Boxes must be requested and paid for by May 25th.  However, if you order by May 20th, you can choose long or short handles for your bag.  The default will be short handles.

Boxes will be sent out at the beginning of June and club night next month will be on Friday, June 7th at 8pm.  See you there!

What a month the past one has been!  I have been so busy with work and family commitments, that I'm afraid the blog has suffered badly.   I especially apologise that the design challenge entries haven't been shown.

I thought there were two, but I can only find one, so if you entered last month's challenge and it isn't here, please get in touch and I'll put it right.

The one entry I have is from Anna Alekseeva, and is entitled Midsummer Night's Dream:

As usual, I've shown it at the fat quarter size and at the swatch size.  Please tell Anna if you like it, either here or on Facebook.

Because it's got so late now, there won't be a challenge this month.  June's challenge theme will be Dragonflies and Butterflies and will launch on 6th June.

At our May Fabric Fun Craft Club we are going to dye fabric using natural dyes.

There's something very satisfying about dying fabric with natural dyes, especially as many of them are readily available for little or no cost.  And there's plenty of scope for experimentation with colours!

Although there's not a great deal of work involved in dying, the whole process takes a long time (days) so we won't be able to complete the whole process on our club night.  Instead, I will go through the processes (which you will be able to join in with if you have enough large pans!) and we will dye some fabric using a powdered dye extract, made from madder.

Your box will include everything you need except pans, with fabric ready for each stage of the process.

To order a box and join in with the fun, please email admin@printmepretty.co.uk. Boxes must be requested and paid for by April 19th.

Boxes will be sent out at the beginning of May and club night next month will be on Wednesday, May 8th at 8pm.
