Our week of spring break is finally coming to an end, but we’re looking forward to a fun-filled Easter weekend with lots of family time and some outdoor activities (now that the weather is warming up!). I hope you all have a great holiday – here are the sales you need to know about + some of the best deals to shop this weekend:
This post is sponsored by Walmart & ShopStyle.
All opinions are 100% honest & completely my own.
If I was forced to pick, I would have to say that my favorite color combination for spring is light blue & crisp white. There’s something so classic & fresh about this pairing that always feels right – it has a slightly coastal vibe that’s equal parts breezy & chic and it looks great with natural glowing makeup & a pretty pink lip.
This is my 3rd post in the We Dress America campaign in partnership with Walmart – it’s been so fun to hear all the feedback I’ve gotten from so many of you about the pieces you’ve purchased & are loving. If you haven’t yet browsed their site & given it a shot, you can check out the best spring trends & their latest new arrivals here – most items come with free 2-day shipping!
I was pleasantly surprised by this denim – we all know that finding good white jeans is a challenge and I never would have thought that you could get a great-fitting pair for less than $25. They have a good amount of stretch to them, but they’re a good thickness & not sheer at all! Though it shows them rolled up on the model, the cuff isn’t sewn, so I unrolled mine before wearing for a little extra length (I’m 5’8″ for reference). If you prefer more of a straight leg jean, these are the same brand & also get great reviews.
These sandals are exactly the kind of style that I could wear all season long – the color goes with everything, the block heel makes them appropriate for pairing with sundresses, jeans or shorts + they’re super comfortable (such a great buy for those of you searching for a versatile vegan option).
We shot these photos at Highland Botanical Park, which is one of my favorite places to visit in the spring. The grounds are covered with blooming flowers, rhododendrons, hydrangeas and, later in the season, the lilac trees fill the park with the most intoxicating fragrance.
I’ve been getting lots of requests for budget-friendly shoe suggestions, so I decided to do a big round-up of the best options for the season. I focused on classic styles that I think you’ll get the most wear out of and I did my best to choose a wide range of colors, textures & heel heights. Most of these are offered in multiple color options, so if there’s a style you like, be sure to click through to see what’s available! Right now Target is offering B1G1 50% off shoes for the whole family and today is also the last day of the DSW sale – get 20% off almost all styles with code BIGMOOD. Here are my top picks all priced under $60:
As much as I wish I could be wearing sleeveless tops & airy spring dresses, the truth is that most days our weather still requires light layers (though we did have one nearly 70 degree day last week that felt downright heavenly!). For those of you who are in the same boat, I thought I would share two layered looks that are great examples of simple ways to dress up your favorite denim. One outfit has a decidedly sophisticated feel and the other is slightly more casual, while still looking polished.
This trench vest is one of my best thrifted finds – I scored it over 4 years ago and it quickly became a staple in my closet. I think it is actually meant to be worn all the way buttoned up (as a dress), but I’ve always layered it over tops & pants. I paired it with this ivory sweater (which has the prettiest scalloped neckline) & these cream colored jeans for a monochrome neutral look.
These snake print mules add just the right amount of texture & interest and they’re the perfect height for walking around in. Right now, Aerosoles is having a great sale – get 20% off 1 pair, 25% off 2 pairs or 30% off 3+ pairs. The discount brings these mules down to $59.99 (price adjusted in cart) – but hurry, today is the last day of the sale!
I love finding outerwear options that are different from my usual denim jacket or utility style. This jacket has all the details of a trench but the cropped length & easy draping make it ideal for dressing up or down. I’ve also worn it over a sleeveless dress & I think it will work really well with shorts once the weather warms up a bit (I just ordered these because they look like the perfect length & I love the waist detail!).
These classic black flats look exactly like the Madewell Frances Loafer ($148) and the Everlane Modern Loafer ($168), but they are under $75 during this sale! I’ve actually tried on both brands and, while they are great quality leather, they don’t even come close to being as comfortable as the Aerosoles. I wish I could adequately describe the cushioning in these, but suffice to say it is better than any other pair of flats I own. They also come in a rich tan leather, which I’m seriously considering ordering too – I know I will get so much wear out of these because they go with everything & the style is truly timeless.
This week was a rough one for our family so I could not be happier that it’s finally Friday! Next week is Spring Break for my kids & we have a busy, but fun schedule that we’re all looking forward to. There are so many great sales happening this weekend & I’ve tried to highlight as many as I can that are offering free shipping with no minimum (view the full list here). I’m also sharing some great finds under $50 for you below. Hope everyone has a wonderful & relaxing weekend!
ONE // TWO (25% off at checkout) // THREE (20% off w/ code EVENT19) FOUR (also in blush) // FIVE // SIX // SEVEN (25% off at checkout) EIGHT (30% off w/ code GREAT) // NINE // TEN (15% off w/ code BEESKNEES)
I’ve been getting lots of questions lately about what I’ve purchased since my shopping freeze ended. So I thought I would share a couple of those items with you today. What I’ve noticed about myself is that I shop with a much more discerning eye when I’m coming off a spending hiatus. In this case, I knew I was all set with wardrobe basics for spring, so I limited myself to looking for items with special details or interesting silhouettes that would be fun additions to my closet.
These floral drop earrings are such a fun statement piece for the season and, thanks to the fresh white finish, they will pair seamlessly with all your spring tops & summer dresses. The best part about these is that they are actually convertible, so you can wear them as a single floral stud or connect the bottom half for maximum impact.
Chloe & Isabel sent me some jewelry from their latest collection, which was inspired by the breathtaking sights of Kyoto, Japan. If you’re not familiar with this brand, they offer well made jewelry that’s affordably priced – I’d say it’s similar in quality to Stella & Dot. I’m a long-time fan and I’ve had some of their pieces for years & all of it has held up beautifully with no tarnishing.
They were kind enough to offer an exclusive discount for PPF readers – you can get 15% off your purchase sitewide using code KYOTO15 through April 30th. This is a great way to pick up some pretty Mother’s Day gifts & get your shopping done a little early (or treat yourself)!
This floral dress is probably my favorite recent purchase – the fit is just perfect and I love the little details that give it a vintage-inspired vibe (like the tie sleeves & button accents). Unfortunately, this exact colorway sold out before I had a chance to share it here, but it comes in two other prints here & here. Other floral dresses I’m loving include: this wrap dress (I wore the longer version here), this midi dress, this buttoned maxi, this ruched dress and this tie-front mini.
Nothing beats the rush of finding something you’ve been eyeing on sale & snagging it before it’s gone for good. I’ve learned the hard way to buy in advance for the spring & summer months (even though it’s still in the 40’s here most days) – because if you wait until the weather actually cooperates, all the best pieces will be out of stock. Thankfully, we haven’t reached that point in the season yet & there are still plenty of amazing finds you can score for less. I’m highlighting the best of the best for you today & every single thing is just $25 or less! (Note: the items from Gap that are featured here will require you to use code CYBER at checkout to bring the price down.)
Let’s be honest – skinny jeans will probably never go out of style and I, for one, won’t be abandoning mine completely…but there’s something that feels so fresh about a slightly different silhouette for spring. Less restrictive, more modern and yet still figure-flattering, these are the best options for any shape (in my opinion)!
JCPenney recently provided me with a gift card to shop, so I thought it would be fun to share with you what I got (I was not paid to write this post, I just genuinely loved what I found!). I’m a JCP cardholder and I shop pretty regularly in store for my husband & kids…but, other than activewear (love their Xersion line!), I hadn’t purchased anything for myself for a while. Their new arrivals pleasantly surprised me and I ended up buying several items above & beyond my gift card amount because they were that good!
These might be my favorite jeans ever – yep, you read that right! The fit is absolute perfection & they are so flattering – even my husband who only likes skinny jeans said that these were definite keepers. What’s great about these is that they look like a crop straight leg jean from the front, but when you turn to the side, you can see the subtle kick flare. I went down a size & they fit like a glove (love the high rise!) – these also come in black & a lighter blue wash.
Anything that’s blue & white striped is a winner in my book, especially for the spring & summer months! I love the button detail & side tie on this top – it is slightly shorter in length so I opted to get it in the tall size since I have a longer torso. It also comes in solid black, mustard & a pretty multi-colored stripe (recommend sizing down).
I’m a big fan of wide leg pants for spring but when I began my search for a great fitting pair, I quickly realized I would need a high rise in order for them to fit my shape properly. I wore another pair from JCPenney last week that I’d also recommend (seen in this post). I went down a size in these and love that they aren’t too sheer!
When it comes to styling wide leg pants, it’s so important to choose your shoes wisely – if you’re wearing sandals with an ankle strap, I recommend picking something in a light neutral/nude or selecting a style with a skinny ankle strap so it doesn’t visually shorten your legs. These type of pants also look great with slide sandals, sneakers & mules (pointed pumps & slingbacks work too for a dressier feel).
Thank you all so much for the kind messages & encouraging emails you sent in response to this post where I talked about some of my personal fears. It made me realize how fortunate I am to have this community of women supporting me and cheering me on – and to those of you who shared some of your own stories with me, thank you for helping me feel less alone. I am truly grateful for every single one of you – getting the chance to interact with you (even through a computer screen!) is one of the greatest blessings that has come from this blog.
I’ve got a weekend full of work ahead of me so I’m buckling down & hoping I can make a decent dent in my mile long to-do list. For those of you who are looking to do a little spring shopping, here are the best sales happening + my top picks under $50:
I don’t write a lot of deeply personal posts here, but something about preparing to travel to India is causing me to be more vulnerable & transparent. I can feel myself opening up in ways I never have before, so it’s only natural that some of that will spill over into my blog content as well. This entire journey that will take place over the course of the next 4 months is going to be a transformative one for me – I can already see it happening.
Last night, we had a planning meeting for our India trip – myself & the small team of women I’m traveling with met with the director of Freedom Firm to discuss more details surrounding the camp where we’ll be serving and what to expect. I’m not going to lie, I walked away from that dinner feeling slightly overwhelmed and, if I’m being honest, downright afraid. The more real this trip becomes, the more my insecurities threaten to get the best of me.
Afterwards, while I was driving home, I had a million thoughts rushing through my head & I started to doubt if I should even be going on this trip. Who am I to be leading these girls? How can I possibly relate to what they’ve gone through? What makes me think that I can make a difference? I don’t even speak their language. I’m so unqualified!
On & on & on…those voices of doubt continued to chip away at my confidence, passion & certainty about this opportunity. Like tiny arrows piercing through the armor of my resolute spirit, leaving their mark & allowing the darkness to seep in. I was left feeling shaken and unsettled rather than inspired & enthusiastic.
Fear is a dangerous thing because it tricks our mind into believing that those negative thoughts are actually truths. But they aren’t. Fear is a liar. It can limit us, blur our vision and, worst of all, if we succumb to it, it has the power to prevent us from taking risks and going outside our comfort zone.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be a woman who lives only in the shelter of complacency. I want to be brave & fearless and live with arms outstretched, welcoming new experiences & challenges my way. So what if I fail? I will learn valuable lessons, grow stronger because of it & move forward with a clearer purpose than before.
So, even though the future is uncertain & I only have a limited amount of control over what happens, starting today I am CHOOSING to be hopeful instead of fearful, eager instead of worried and confident instead of intimidated. Because the truth is – we get to decide what our attitude will be; we set the tone. And I want for mine to be one that is positive, optimistic & assured. How about you?
