I was recently asked to do a pin up/vintage photoshoot by a friend. Hair and make up by the incredible Natacha Trottier and clothing supplied by various friends, thrift stores and the Treasure Boutique in Squamish.

On the night of our shoot a mutual friend of ours came to watch and drink wine. Little did she know but she was soon in hair and make up and I was photographing her too!

It was a great night of being a bit daring, a bit silly and always, having a lot of fun!

If you are interested in having a themed shoot, even with a few friends, contact me! The ultimate girls day or night out!

A little hair and make up to get us in right era...

and off we go :)

And this Ms. CW came on the scene :)

Had the distinct pleasure to meet and photography beautiful Ms R and her equally good looking hubby last weekend for a maternity photography session. They are new to Squamish so we went on a little off road adventure... in hind sight probably not the best for an expecting mother!

We did a little of this and a little of that .. outdoor photography and then some in studio shots with moody lighting.

I love this set of images!

Been so busy the last few weeks. It has been amazing moving into my studio on 2nd Avenue in Squamish - the amount of space and the room to be creative and wow, no kids hanging on my legs while I try figure out what I am going to be doing has been refreshing!

I was sitting and thinking about my journey and where I have come from to get here and I have to say thank you to some of the most amazing people I have ever met both in Perth and now here in the Sea to Sky corridor. I had a little look through some of my folders today and wanted to share a few of my favourites with you again... it's good to look back!

Some of these photographs I love because they are portraits that are going to hang in someones house for a very long time, and others I love because they caught a mood and they might not be hung on a wall but will most likely be in an album for everyone to laugh at in a few years :)

I love taking photographs of people. As many of you know I started taking photographs to paint from them, I love the human form and especially the face!

I read a Facebook thread today of another photographer who lost her son and husband in a car accident and she was writing about how thankful she is for the photographs that she has of them to remind her daily of them. I look at photographs often of my grandparents, I miss them daily and am thankful for their photographs. I would really like to encourage everyone to have a professional photography shoot with their kids, have photographs of you and your spouse. These are just moments in our lives and our kids get big ...really fast!

Anyway, enough blabbering...

Here are a few of my favourite images...

Meet Gage who was just one week old at this newborn photography session at my new studio in Squamish.

Mom and Dad and big brother all drove to Squamish from Pemberton... thank you for making the trek :)

He was so sleepy a the beginning of the session and we had a bunch of great shots in no time, and then it came to family photographs and the little Mr. decided enough was enough, poor darling!

Enjoy the images and please let me know what you think :) Your comments are always appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time!

One week old Aislinn became my first newborn photo shoot at my new studio in Squamish on Saturday :)

She was so wide awake  when she first arrived and we kept on thinking this is going to be an awake shoot, although with all the cuteness it wasn't the worst thing in the word ;)

and then just like that she decided she was tired and the rest was breezy :)

My photography, like all professionals, is a process. Think about the old school film photography, the roll of film is a negative that the photographer then needed to develop. He took it into a dark room and made it his own. Each photographer had his flare in the dark room and out came the result, a piece of art really. No one asked a photographer back then for the roll of film, what were they going to do with it? and even if they did know what to do with it the end result was not going to be like the professional who added his flavour in the dark room.

This is true today. I take a photograph with let's call it a digital negative - the SD card is my roll of film - I then take those negatives into a software program, which is the modern dark room - a digital dark room - and I manipulate the image to my style, for example,  I like a bit of contrast, I like to brighten eyes, to desaturate certain areas, all of this is done AFTER I have taken the picture. I am making it a piece of art.

This is why I don't hand over my unedited digitals, they are only negatives, they have not been developed yet, if you are hiring me because you like my work, then it is the entire process that needs to happen.

I will show you with this photograph of my daughter

This is the negative - right out of camera, no editing has been done to this image.

This is the shot after I have processed it. I have made it my own.

Rant over ;)

Meet Leah and Logan - they were 2 weeks old after having spent some time in neonatal. Little Leah was a fire cracker and Logan was as sleepy as anything.. but then that's what you get with twins - you can never predict how it's all going to work out on the day of a shoot.

I love shooting twins though, I think just seeing their similarities and differences and the bond that they carry right from day 1 is mesmerizing to me.

I have twin sisters and have always been impressed with how much they are in tune with each other so getting to see twins in my studio every so often is really lovely for me.

I met Katie and Nick for their maternity session the week before the twins decided enough was enough and they wanted to come early :) Katie was amazing, allowing me to photograph her in a milk bath and we did the whole nine yards, studio and outdoor pictures, which I think is great as their is just so much more variety to choose from. I think she looked amazing carrying those little munchkins!

Comments are always appreciated - if they are nice ;)

My daughter has been very ill this past week and I have been thinking about how much I love her, how much my life has changed since we had her (yes, it has changed a lot! ;))

This past week her and I had quiet time making a flower wall that I had been musing about for ages. The making of the flower wall was an experience in itself for one the poor thing got so tired and and then I think so bored and then Jonah came in and started wrecking it... anyway, long story short we made this beautiful wall and I really wanted to photograph her in front of it, but she was not up to it. Today, however, we have turned a corner, the colour is back in her beautiful face and she is happy and oh yes, fighting with her brother... definitely better!

She was very into getting all dressed up for the "flower shoot" and I was so excited!

Mr. J was also equally excited but wanted to be shirtless, but included!

The following are the fruits of my musing, quiet time and a lot of fun... sometimes patience is the best medicine (for me) :)

Enjoy xxx
