Session #2 - Feb. 2-3
What a fabulous group of makers! We kicked it off with making small pieces by hand, and setting them aside to dry as we practiced sgraffito mark-making on the first day. The second day of the workshop was full of discovery and accomplishment. It was such a thrill to fire these pieces and see how it all turned out. Fabulous!
Quick shots below of the pieces after final glaze firing, before packaging for pick-up or shipping.

The 2019 workshop season opened with such a wonderful group! They enthusiastically entered into the process of having a new creative adventure. Some came with partners and friends. Some are experienced potters; others are beginners or just wanted to try something new. Such a fun way to build memories to last a lifetime. Thank you to all. You got this year's workshops off to a fabulous start!
Below are very quick pics of the finished, fired pieces before we packed them for delivery or pick-up. (Please excuse the glare.) These are provided so that the workshop participants can see how all the pieces turned out.

As I look at these mugs on my glaze table this morning, they are like little books – each one holding a story about the person who ordered it and why.

There is a pair of monarch mugs ordered as a Valentine's gift for a lady who has a butterfly garden. There is a set of "happy whale" mugs ordered by a family who is relocating to a home by the sea. And there is an "old crow" mug ordered by a man whose friend is retiring...

So many mugs were ordered during my last online event – and each one has its own personality and special destination.

Thank you to all who placed orders! Your pieces are in process... and my studio is alive with your stories!

If you're reading this and not already signed up as a Studio Friend, please do! You'll receive free shipping (U.S.)  And my sincere gratitude for encouraging and supporting my work.

As the days click by, ever closer to the holiday season, it's such a whirlwind in the studio and I have to remind myself to relax moment-by-moment. I want to have so many pieces finished and ready for you guys. Alas, I am just not going to be able to get it ALL done.

It's been my daily challenge: To balance the desire to have a profitable business with the desire to make work that has meaning to me and brings joy.

I used to say that my work is labor-intensive. But no longer. Yes, it does take such a long time to make each piece, but it's really an act of love, not labor. By reframing it, I can rest in each moment of making and know that I'm on the right track.

This year's "Mug-Mania & More" will offer a variety to shoppers – including new mugs, yarn bowls, vases, vessels and even some ornaments and jewelry. I hope you'll check it out!
