iPhone season is revving up. New rumors are swirling, everyone is dying to see what Apple is coming out with this year. Normally, we see a new redesign as we did in 2018, then a year of refinement, usually dubbed an "S year". They might tweak the camera specs, bump up the processor, but the external unit stays the same. If Apple were following their typical pattern, last year was supposed to be laidback, an "S year". The launch of the XS certainly followed that pattern. However, we also saw the launch of the incredibly powerful XS Max and the pared-down XR. 2018 had three iPhones, which was anything but normal. Apple is clearly shedding its predictability. What could that mean for this year?

It's time for a new cycle of iPhones, but what exactly is Apple be working on? There's been some friction on the design team, to say the least. Will we see a completely different design philosophy now that Jony Ive has left? Are they really going to put three cameras on one iPhone? Let's take a look at what the experts are predicting for iPhone 2019!

iPhone 11 Name

"The 2019 iPhone", "iPhone Xi", "iPhone 11" all refer to the same device but the official name has yet to be released. It is most likely, however, that it'll be titled the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max. The "X" was a celebration of the iPhone's anniversary. Now that has ended, we're anticipating the naming system to continue in traditional fashion.

iPhone 11 Camera

The current lineup of iPhones offers great cameras, but they're not the best out there. The Pixel 3 and even the Huawei P30 Pro easily outpace it. However, Apple is not one to settle for less. The iPhone 11 should have a complete camera overhaul. Their competition has set the standard of having one really great camera. However, the current consensus is that the new iPhones will have a triad of cameras. No, really! The new iPhones will almost certainly have three cameras. With three iPhones last year, and three cameras per phone this year, Apple is all in on their new "more is more" philosophy.

Opinions vary wildly on this, and especially on the upcoming camera bump. The final call will have to be made after the launch. Touchscreens were revolutionized with the launch of the first iPhone, then the Home button got an overhaul then was phased out, and now we are getting three cameras. Throughout their history, Apple has done something along these lines, then the entire industry pivoted around their latest launch. We're quite excited to see new features, especially the new camera.

iPhone 11 Specs

As expected, Jony Ive's departure from Apple is messy and slow. So then, what will the iPhone right after their separation look like? Quite honestly, not all that different that what we're used to. With the exception of the triplet cameras, the rest will maintain the futuristic X look. Interestingly, according to a tweet from Mark Gurman who reports for Bloomberg, odds are good that we'll see something like the XS, XR, and XS Max. With the exciting iOS 13 on the horizon, we'll see some exciting updates to the iPhone hardware. Gurman goes onto speculates that we'll get a more muted color scheme this year for the XR's.

As for Jony Ive... He's been at the company for more than 25 years. As a company, we are so grateful for his hard work these past two and a half decades. His impeccable designs helped sparked our desire to begin creating wonderful cases for Apple devices. While we're sad to see him step away from Apple, we are glad he's following his inspiration. And, we are excited to see what this change brings. Hopefully, this will breathe new life and the launch of the iPhone 11 will kick off an era of innovation.

Will iPhone 11 Have a Notch?

Speaking of controversial features, let's talk about the notch. According to a report done by ETNews, the notch will most likely shrink. If not, we're anticipating it to disappear altogether. The report also mentions a virtual fingerprint scanner patent, finally allowing us to have both Face ID and fingerprint recognition. Yay!

This also hints at a push to get Haptic Touch universal across all iPhones. Additionally, the focus on a more competent screen and UI system hint that 2019 will be the year the Apple Pencil will come to the iPhone. MacRumor's article 3D Touch in 2019 is a great, comprehensive explanation behind the reasons why Apple might move away from 3D Touch.

iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max Price

Previously, we saw landmark prices for the iPhone XS and XS Max. On the other hand, we did see the scales even out a bit with the launch of the XR. We're expecting to have similar pricing this Fall. Meaning, the 2019 iPhone XR will be priced around $749, the iPhone 11 $999, and the bigger iPhone 11 Max will probably be priced around $1,999.

iPhone 11 Cases

We will absolutely be making the very best iPhone 11 cases out there. As soon as we get the final word from Apple, we'll begin crafting iPhone cases. We'll take the new design and begin handcrafting our cases with old world techniques. The new iPhones are the epitome of great, functional, beautiful design. If you want a case that enhances the experience while protecting the phone, check out our cases! (If you don't, and are fond of clunky, out-of-date cases... Well, we suggest you look elsewhere.)

Here at Pad & Quill, we are completely dedicated to the art of leather craftsmanship. It's important to us that we preserve the history of the leather artisans that came before us. Specifically, the Gladstone travel bag sparked our imagination. It's got such a rich history and is an integral piece of menswear. We've plucked this bag out of time and given it modern functionality. Let's explore its amazing story!

The Origins of the Gladstone Bag

The Gladstone bag, the epitome of Victorian Britain. The bag began as a lightweight bag for Britain's prime ministers. In particular, William Ewart Gladstone used it during the impressive four times he took the top seat between 1864 and 1898! While in power, he was exceptionally popular with the working-class and was affectionately called "The People's William". The public saw him and his lightweight travel bag at small campaign events, Parliamentary meetings, and world-renown speeches across the globe.

Gladstone was seen with his signature bag so much, his name became synonymous with the bag. Others quickly adopted his look, and it took off.

The History of the Doctor Bag

The need for a lightweight bag that holds necessary items for triaging patients is not new. The concept of a physician's bag is quite literally as old as the concept of physician's themselves. In Ancient Greek and Egyptian art, doctors are often depicted along with their makeshift bags.

In the 18th and 19th centuries, doctors often traveled to their patients and made frequent house visits. They ventured out by train, horseback, or even by foot. Also, at that time, most doctors weren't as specialized as they are now. One community physician handled birth, death, and everything in between. A doctor would be at the whims of his patients' conditions. Their bag absolutely had to keep up with their intensive routine and variety of patient care.

Enter the Gladstone. It was structured, organized, and light, and oh-so-roomy. After its' introduction by William Ewart Gladstone, doctors quickly took to the style. They abandoned their clunky medicine chests and boxes for a soft, durable bag that had an intrepid spirit that matched its' carriers.

Then, World Wars shook the globe and the need for medical attention spiked. Military and navy surgeons dodged fire to attend to patients with their trusty Gladstone in hand. Inside, the Gladstone held a range of tools and ingredients. Most doctors had to compound their own medicines on the fly.

The Gladstone has truly proven itself with its admiral service throughout the centuries. Its sturdy shape, wide frame, and leather exterior is timeless. Nowadays, the Gladstone is a statement piece of luxurious style. Although it's still in use by doctors, it's also been adopted by stylish men and women as a travel bag.

Modern Gladstone Bags

Our line of Gladstone briefcases and duffles are an evolution of the classic design. They are even slimmer iteration. The Gladstone Briefcase is perfect to use as a daily work bag. The Gladstone Duffle is a loyal travel companion. Both bags combine timeless elegance with a modern sensibility.

As an homage to its undeniable British charm, we lined the Gladstone with our incredible herringbone. Long ago, the ancient Roman Empire used Herringbone patterns in roads, fabrics, and even religious artifacts! Our artisans weave the fabric to be both durable and protective.

It's so soft, herringbone fabric also makes your bag a delight to reach into. From the nylon stitching, rugged body design, and soft interior lining, our newest line of bags are a tour de force of leather craftsmanship.

The Gladstone has been loved by time, perfected by us, and is storied by you. Welcome to the Pad & Quill family!

Chances are, you are familiar with the herringbone pattern. In fact, you might even own a few pieces in your own wardrobe. Here at Pad and Quill, we love unearthing the unique stories of things in our everyday lives. Over the centuries, it's embarked on a long journey. After serving as the building blocks of an ancient empire, herringbone then evolved into a gentleman's fabric.

The Origin of Herringbone

Nowadays, we typically reserve herringbone for fabric and interior design. But, it initially started out far removed from its current use in textiles. The pattern's first use was in the Ancient Roman Empire, mainly used in buildings its roadways. Ancient Romans were inspired by the shape and patterns of herring fish. They used the herringbone pattern to provide remarkable infrastructure to their empire.

It was called "spiked work", or opus spicatum in the original Latin. First, they built a base of gravel. Then, they interlaid the pattern with bricks over it. Both the gravel and pattern helped absorb the compression of the heavy traffic on the roads. Thus, it reduced the need for intensive repairs on thousands of miles of Roman roads. The pattern has proven to be so durable, that you can still walk these roads today!

However, the Romans weren't alone in their use of the pattern. Another ancient civilization to utilize the pattern was the ancient Egyptians. They mainly used it in the elite's jewelry. The pattern was incredibly difficult to work with and intricate.

Herringbone Throughout History

The pattern was pervasive to ancient life, it even shows up in religious texts and beliefs. It even emerged as a fabric in ancient Ireland. It was a common fabric found throughout the Old World. However, once the Roman Empire fell, the herringbone pattern all but disappeared.

It found a resurgence during the European Renaissance, especially in religious architecture. The Duomo's architect, Brunelleschi, used the herringbone method of layering bricks to add extra support to the structure. The Duomo in Florence helped reignite its popularity across Europe.

Again, herringbone worked its way into fabrics. In Ireland, rustic herringbone suits were common. At the same time, it also gained ubiquity in Italy. Skilled tailors frequently used it in suits and other fine apparel for the upper class. Despite its ancient beginnings, herringbone is still an important part of classic menswear today and remains one of the most popular cloths for tailoring.

Herringbone for the Modern Man

Given its spiraling history, it's fitting that the herringbone has remained and is now an essential fabric in men's tailoring! Upon first glance, it might look like a chevron. Yet, a keen eye will notice a zig-zag pattern instead of stripes of alternating color.

Wool is still quite common in herringbone fabrics, especially for winter suits. However, herringbone is made using a variety of blends and compositions and is a perfect year-round feature of your wardrobe.

Now, you can find pretty much anything in a herringbone design. It's a versatile option that doesn't overwhelm the rest of the outfit. From far away, small touches of herringbone can even look like a solid color. Shirts, knitwear, and even socks utilize the geometric pattern. The larger the herringbone garment, the bolder it gets. Add in a contrasting color for a truly striking look! Pro-tip: add in a touch of bold orange to navy sports coat for a fun way to mix it up.

The Future of Herringbone

We're starting to see more vintage patterns and fabrics come back into fashion. Bowties and Windsor knots are making a come back, and herringbone is on its way up. From Roman roads to religious artifacts, to Irish kilts... What's next for herringbone?

We are! When designing the Cambridge iPad Pro Case, we were drawn to this luxurious look. Herringbone is getting a new life with us here at Pad and Quill.  It is incredibly durable due to the woven pattern, yet so soft to the touch. We will always choose quality over corner-cutting and herringbone embodies that sentiment.

We paired this stunning fabric with our signature full-grain leather and parachute-grade nylon stitching. The result is our all-new Cambridge iPad Pro case. As a result, the case is slim and still holds so much. It holds the Apple Folio and Apple Pencil 2 and even self-props! Also, we worked in an interior pocket for your convenience. It's a quality you'll have to feel to believe.

Modern Gladstone Bags

Also, herringbone lines all of our new Gladstone bags. It protects fragile tech and is so comfortable to handle. We offer a bold 25-year leather warranty because we are that confident in our craftsmanship. Don't be afraid to break it in. Scuffs and scrapes only add to leather's character, and the interior will keep everything safe and secure. The simple act of touching and handling the case enriches the leather. As you handle it over time, it will grow deeper and richer in shade. Welcome to the Pad & Quill family.

How are you planning on incorporating herringbone into your wardrobe?

Well... the answer to that is a bit complicated. When we researched the difference between a rucksack and a backpack, we got a huge list of dissenting opinions. No worries though, we got to the bottom of it and aim to uncomplicate this age-old debate.

Do you remember learning in school how all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares? That's pretty much what happened with rucksacks and backpacks. Essentially, a rucksack is a kind of backpack.

Rusty on your geometry skills? No worries, let's break it down. We'll define what makes a rucksack a rucksack, and it's similarities to a backpack, and what splits the difference.

Backpacks

That's easy enough to define, they're a bag that's carried on your back. Although we didn't originate the style, Americans are attributed with coining the term. In the States, we use the term "backpack" to refer to school bags, but it also refers to a bag that's a perfect carryon or weekend trip bag.

A true backpack has two shoulder straps. Preferably, the straps are nice and wide across the largest part of your shoulders and taper in along the waist. This helps redistribute the weight and keeps it comfortable throughout the day.

Rucksacks

The term "rucksack" has a much older history. It's a derivative of the German word "der rücken", and basically means rugged, roomy backpack. Often times, they're used for hiking and intrepid camping trips. They're ideal for long hiking trips and adventures around the world. So, a rucksack is just a big backpack, right?

Well, yes and no. In a military context, you'll hear "rucksack" much more often. Also, rucksacks tend to cinch close along the mouth of the backpack. Aside from that, you can use the two terms pretty interchangeably. Both backpacks and rucksacks help you carry heavy, bulky loads. Do you need a rucksack or a backpack? It’s really a matter of how much stuff you need to carry and how long you need to carry it.

In most instances, a briefcase and an attache case are interchangeable. However, when directly compared, they each have unique histories and distinct features. Use your knowledge of their histories, uses, and features, to show off your fashion cred and ensure you end up with a bag you love.

The History of the Attache Case

The word "attache" itself is a French term that refers to an administrator of an ambassador. It's an ultra-specific word for a broad job description. They had to juggle papers, liaisoning with other staff members of ambassadors, planning special events, and catering to the ambassador's needs. The Attache's bags eventually became known as attache cases. The bags they carry eventually became known as "attaches".

The History of the Briefcase

"Briefcase" has its roots in the legal world. First, let's define what a legal brief is. A legal brief is a summary of case facts and legal positions and precedents for judicial proceedings. Lawyers aren't particularly known for their fanciful nature and the term stems from a case that held their legal briefs. Thus, "briefcase" was born.

Features and Uses

Despite their shared bureaucratic history, the attache and briefcase are quite different from each other. An attache case is a small and thin bag, built especially for carrying documents. Modern attaches are like a mobile office. They have room for documents sure, but also have room for laptops, chargers, and iPhones. They're normally made of metal, or more commonly leather and have a slim profile. Internally, they have two separate pockets that keep delicate items safe.

A briefcase is flat and rectangular and usually used for carrying books, pens, and papers. Inside it's got one main compartment, that's usually lined with pockets to provide balance and organization. Also, briefcases have a "lid" that keeps the interior protected. There are a wide variety of briefcases, but most are made of leather and/or canvas. They're a bit chunkier than attache cases and allow for more and larger items.

In practical terms, you can pretty much use "briefcase" and "attache case" interchangeably.  However, when compared, an attache case and briefcase are different in subtle ways. However, depending on your tastes and needs, those slight differences mean a lot!

Please take a moment to see our take on both briefcases and attache cases!

As you start to travel more often, that old beat-up cloth duffle bag from freshman year isn't going to cut it anymore. Sure it's been your go-to for years now, but it's definitely past its prime. The time has come to let it go and invest in a good quality leather duffle. But which one? How do you know if it'll work out for you?

Well... We may be a little biased, but we have designed the ultimate men's leather duffle bag. Here at Pad & Quill, nothing but the best will do. We took our sturdiest hardware and leather, and shaped them into a bag that is a delight to hold. It also upholds one of our key design principles: versatility. You can bring it on a plane headed to Hawaii, a business trip, or even a weekend road trip. This bag is chockfull of lovely features, backed by an incredible warranty and team, and extremely rugged. Let's take an in-depth look at it!

Enduring Craftsmanship

We'll start out with the people that craft each bag. Every day, they help us live up to our name and mission: Pad & Quill - Durable goods, artisan made. Our artisans play a crucial role on our team and in this Duffle's beauty. They begin by inspecting the raw materials needed. From there, they use their artisanry to craft our gorgeous leather bags and accessories. Our tannery only accepts the top 20% of full-grain leather for our bags. Learn more about their tanning and crafting process!

Next, construction begins. We pair our rugged leather with parachute grade thread to give the bag structure and functionality. As the bag starts to come to form, we add detail to the exterior.

Why we love it: We strongly believe in the power of the individual and their story. Each of our artisans imbues your duffle with the passion and history they have of leather work.

The Relentless Leather Weekend Bag

Let's take a closer look at that signature Pad & Quill exterior. The full-grain leather it's comprised of is thick and durable and inherits natural markings. Also, it is naturally weatherproof, keeping your precious belongings safe and dry. Then, we add quick-access slip pockets along the front and back.

We then add the most unbreakable hardware. Our antiqued brass buckles and clasps serve to keep everything together and in its place. Reinforcements come in the form of our hand-pounded copper rivets along key stress points. Then, our incredible Japanese nickel zippers zip everything up. Finally, we add a leather luggage pass through strap to our favorite leather weekend bag. With those materials in hand, our artisans transform them into a beautiful range of three signature colors.

Why we love it: The rugged duffle bag emerges as a result of enduring craftsmanship that is ready to take on the elements.

The Leather Weekend Bag's Features You Need

Moving into the interior, you'll find that it's not just the exterior that's gorgeous. Open it up, you'll and the entire bag is lined with phenomenal leather. We use an incredibly soft pigskin that helps protect your belongings from bumps and scrapes. Lastly, the reinforced interior looks fantastic empty or full. There's no such thing as a deflated bag here at Pad & Quill.

Also, we added a zippered interior pocket, made of the rich exterior leather. Some items are too sensitive to travel loosely inside the main compartment. Every traveler knows that just the phrase "internal compartment" is worth a second look. You don't have to fret about your brogues smashing up cords and SD cards. We expanded on the typical design theory of internal pockets and the pocket is reinforced with a pull tab zipper and 4 copper rivets.

Why we love it: To us, the best duffle has to go beyond simply looking good, it has to be good. We tailored our interior design to maximize functionality, durability, and character.

What Our Customers are Saying About Our Leather Duffle Bag

Okay, we'll concede that loving our own bag isn't exactly the most humble thing to do... However, don't just take our word for it! Here's what just a few of our customers are saying:

Christopher from Illinois had this to say about our Heritage Duffle Bag, "5/5 stars, vintage aesthetics that function - The value placed in the thoughtful design and aesthetics of the bag is very effective in the function of this bag. It is made to withstand the abuse of the heavy traveler and I know when I am using this, it creates a statement of professionalism and creativity. It is an amazing duffle bag that I know will never grow bored of and have the honor to showcase how wonderful the bag is. It may be expensive, but know that you are placing an investment into the quality that you know will last for generations and it looks beautiful on top of it. No regrets."  We certainly agree, Christopher! We blurred the lines between professionalism and play with our Heritage Duffle.

Paul from Michigan also gave it 5/5 stars and said, “The bag is even better than described, to be honest. It is so soft and you can tell it is handmade with care. I love the size as it is very roomy inside once it opened up and the leather looks and smells great. Highly recommend bag, thanks, guys!” One of our favorite things to celebrate is when our bags prove to be a delight for the senses.

Do you have the right bag? How do you know? You may not ever leave your house without your work bag, and you need to have the right one. This bag will hold all your essentials like your notebook full of ideas, pens to sign contracts, a laptop with your afternoon presentation, and maybe even a book for the journey into work. In short, not just any bag will do. When you're working at your peak, it's vital to have a bag that can keep up. If we seem a little geeky about bags, it's because we are. A small part of your job is 100% ours.

Since your work bag is a key part of your professional attire, it should have character. Never flashy or gaudy. Also, it ought to keep your work materials organized so it makes your job and life simpler. Lastly, it has to be strong enough to haul all of your gear. We have endeavored to find the perfect work bag and chatted with professionals from coast to coast. In doing so, we have pioneered an intentional design resulting in a small, handcrafted collection of bags for both men and women. Which one do you choose? Here are some pointers to get you started in the right direction!

How Do You Use Your Work Bag?

We have a wide range of customers that use our bags. They range from entrepreneurs, bike messengers, pastors, stockbrokers... not everyone needs the same bag. What do you need from your bag? How do you get to work? Do you travel a lot and will use it on trips?

A new work bag is a great place to step it up and make a good investment in your career. Answering those questions will help you choose between a heavy, durable satchel with lots of hardware embellishments or a slim bookbag.

Make an Investment in Durability

Your bag doesn't have to be in the thousands, but choosing a high-quality bag is crucial. Don't just invest your money, invest some time and research! Look into brands and styles that will work best for you in the long run. Between, iPads, laptops, work presentations, keys, and workout clothes...If you're lugging around all sorts of stuff on the daily, a durable bag is the only way to go. Choose classic, refined styles that can adapt to any work environment.

An investment-worthy piece comes with durable hardware, exterior pockets for quick-reach items, and interior organization. We suggest our Rolltop Satchel Leather Laptop Bag for freelancers and full-timers alike because the lightweight design allows you to carry just about anything into work. It's got more space than you could ever need - in handcrafted full-grain leather no less.

Functionality

Look for convertible handles and straps on your new bag. You don't want to end up slanted and schlubby because your bag isn't ergonomic. It's best if it can be carried two ways- in your hands and over the shoulder. Long office hours aren't made any easier by a clunky bag that's uncomfortable to hold.

Our waxed canvas and leather briefcase line is a great example of versatile features: they have recessible handles tucked away in transit and a shoulder strap to bear the load if you feel so inclined. Also, when looking at straps and handles, look for extra support and padding along key stress and contact points. We chose to reinforce our bags with hand-pounded rivets and unbreakable hardware. We also added padding along the straps for comfort. What does your bag have?

Choose an Interior that Suits Your Needs

A bag with a pocket packed interior isn't necessarily better than a streamlined one with an open design. It all depends on your needs and how you use it. If you carry loads of tech that needs to be protected, you may want the ultra-organized Attaché. It's like a personal assistant in bag form.

In the same vein, we suggest our leather messenger bag because of its unique interior design. It's a bright orange color, so it's easy to find your things. For a vertical option, check out its sibling, the Field Bag. Our signature orange lining elevates each bag into a coveted work accessory that you'll have for the rest of your career.

Also, good to go for a brand that has quality leather and has a great repair team. We'll cover your PQ bag for the next 25-years. If anything goes awry, we'll get in for a repair, and send it back to you. You'll need to keep your investment in fighting trim!

Chained to Your Laptop?

Looking for a great way to carry your virtual office around? Let's face it, most mobile office setups are equal parts hideous and unfunctional. We've spared you the typical trip to a big-box store only to find an ugly mass-produced design that's bulky and overly-armored up. No thank you. This full-grain leather laptop bag is a favorite among our customers, is a protective leather bag that can take any workload. It's weatherproof, has UV-resistant stitching, and plenty of pockets. From its nickel hardware all the way down to the reinforced strap, this bag packs a powerful punch.

For a pared down, budget-friendly alternative, we suggest our slim satchel. We also love the leather iPad bag because of its slim profile and the organized interior that tackles notepads, pens, and tech. They're great for interviews and important meetings that don't require your entire fleet of tech to accompany you.

Get The Perfect Laptop Bag

It can be hard to find something that's not flimsy, cheap, bulky, or too pricey. Instead, look for functionality, fit, tech abilities, and if it can keep pace with your lifestyle. That's why we have dedicated our lives to designing great bags for great men. We have a wide variety to suit the needs of all kinds of people. Do you have your eye on something in particular? Great! Use the code PQ16 to save 10% off, and begin your rugged-yet-refined journey with your new, perfect laptop bag. We're thankful that you're here, welcome to the PQ Family!

Going on a quick work trip? After reading how-to-guide on how to travel with just a carry-on, now you need to pack. On top of planning flights, hotels, rental cars; it can be hard to know what to bring, or even how to pack. It's important to pack a collection of trustworthy staples that balance that fine line between smart and casual, and work well together so you can easily power through your conference meetings. The goal here is to choose a handful of items that constitute your entire wardrobe for the weekend. Here's how to nail your look at your next work conference!

What to Pack for Business Conferences

First off, do you have the right bag? Is it well-made? What about the warranty? We cannot recommend our men's leather duffle bag more. It's intentionally designed to last decades, handcrafted by artisans, and all the hardware is reinforced at stress points.

No matter what you choose, make sure you are proud to be seen with it, and that it will hold up to the rigors of travel. With your bag picked out, outfits lined up, and trip planned, it's time to get packing!

First off, let's start with the basics. What makes you feel the best when you wear it? From your jacket down to your skivvies, bring items that make you feel like your best self. Now is the time to break out your closet's best of the best. Need help whittling down? Opt for well-crafted pieces made with impeccable fabrics and purposeful details. Next, break down your outfit ideas into days.

Day 1- Stylish Arrival

While you won't "pack" this outfit, you'll want to opt for a layered outfit for the plane ride there. Planes are always either too hot or too cold, the layers will help you adjust to new climates. A particular favorite piece of outerwear is the pea coat. They have a long history of being worn being worn by men that are as tough as nails. Its reputation as an officer’s jacket will add a storied ruggedness to whatever you wear with it.

You'll also want to wear a button-up. The right button-up shirt can work in almost any situation: go one button up for more formal and one button down for more casual. We suggest wearing your more casual button-up on the plane and save the more formal one in your carryon. It'll prevent any travel disasters from happening to your nicer shirt. Next, pull the outfit together with some comfortable grey slacks. We'd suggest bringing a black pair of shoes, and wearing your brogues on the trip there. They maintain a rugged vibe even when paired with the rest of your dressier items. And of course, they're versatile and more comfortable than formal shoes.

Day 2- Conference Rockstar and Drinks

Day 2 is a dressier yet versatile look that allows you to move seamlessly from work to casual networking hangouts. You'll keep the accessories and re-wear the brogues and watch, but change up the main parts of the outfit. Having a good blazer in your fashion arsenal ensures that you'll be able to match any dress code and even the most formal occasions at a moment’s notice. It's fashion-forward and is great to wear in a variety of environments.

Also, if you're going for a casual fabric shirt like the one above, try pairing it with a tie! Even if ties aren’t essential workplace items these days, they offer a touch of sophistication. Don't want to be overdressed for a business casual event? Knitted textures pairs with the chambray in a fun way that doesn't feel overly stuffy. If you're headed out for easy network events after the day is done, simply leave off the tie and blazer.

Day 3- The Big Presentation

On Day 3, dress to impress. Either reuse your Day 2 tie (especially if you didn't wear it) or opt for a complete refresh with a new one. Ties don't take up much room, should be rolled then stashed in your shoes during transit, feel free to pack a few extra. Of course, any dark color tie works.

Pair a lighter dress shirt with a darker tie and a darker blazer for an interesting contrast. Continue the trend with a lighter pant.  In particular, we're big fans of a navy sports coat paired with tan slacks. A more refined take on the khaki, with a little extra thickness, these are perfect. Further refine the look by finishing it off the look with a darker shoe, especially an Oxford. Oxfords have long been a men’s fashion staple, a hallmark of simple elegance. They are a great alternative for when you want something less structured like a boot but more put-together than a sneaker. A pair of suede captoes can be dressed up for work (or more) or worn with slim jeans casually. Finally, tie the whole outfit with a pocket square to add a splash of daring personality.

Day 4- Comfortable Departure

You're nearly there. Home sweet home! Make Day 4 the most relaxed day. A henley or button down offers that just-right mix of rugged and stylish. Plus, they are perfect for layering. Throw on some dark wash jeans, you're finally done with slacks!

We suggest opting for the inverse of yesterday's look, go dark on with your pants and light with your jacket. You can reuse either your Day 1 wingtips or Day 3 oxfords, but you may want to opt for an ultra-comfy pair. Finicky styles, TSA screenings, and an impending plane departure don't make for the best combo. Go for a comfy sneaker or slide on shoe.

How to Pack for Business Conferences

Place your shoes along the bottom. Pack your undies, socks, and ties rolled into the mouth of your shoes. Then, fold your pants along the creases and place them on top of your shoes. Specifically, use them to delineate layers in your bag and avoid getting your nice shirts dirty. Place your outerwear on top. Next, pack belts by spiraling them and placing them your dress shirts' collars. This will prevent them from unspooling and keep the collars wrinkle free. Place any soft items like backup jackets, TechFolios, or pajamas along the sides for comfort. Lastly, sprinkle your miscellaneous items along the top for easy access. This includes your Dopp kit, work notes, and tech gear. Check out the Quill's thorough pack list to make sure you come prepared!

Now, you're well-prepared (and well-packed!) for your next conference. Do you have any conference tips? Let us know in the comments below!
