I met the lovely Rhiannon what seems like ages ago - when I was pregnant with my now almost 1 year old son! Rhiannon reached out to me like a bolt out of the blue, yet when we sat down over coffee it was like we had known each other forever! This encounter is a perfect example of what I love about what I do - Rhiannon had simply felt a synergy between us and was courageous enough to reach out and connect, and I am so glad she did. We had so much in common and I was really excited to learn about Rhiannon's plans for her new business - what is now whoSOCIAL. Read more about this gorgeous dynamo below x

Obviously I know all about you and your awesome business - but please tell the readers a little more about your business and what makes you unique?

whoSOCIAL is a social media marketing online business exclusively working with Accountants and Bookkeepers helping them achieve a consistent social presence. We offer services that provide consistent, curated social media profiles.

I came from 12 years in the Accounting industry and have also co-founded a boutique Accounting business. My background is in business management and I quickly built my career in the industry managing internal functions of an accounting business. I am one of very few women in the industry that has held the position of Non Technical Equity Partner in an Accounting business.

Whilst in Partnership I saw an opportunity in the area of marketing and social media for Accountants. This is an area that many Accounting businesses don’t pay much attention to and I really want to use my knowledge and experience, to help Accountants and Bookkeepers better utilise these digital platforms to better their business and engage more with clients and prospects.

What’s been going on since we caught up?

The last time we caught up I  was on my way to Sydney where I had a stand at the first annual Accounting and Business Expo. What an experience this was! After attending many industry events in past years, this is one of the first conferences that was product neutral and after speaking with many attendees and vendors, this is going to be the industry conference to be at for years to come.  People were genuinely interested in the service I was offering and I was quite pleased to see that they are starting to realise that social media isn’t something that is going away and they need to start doing something with it. I came away with so many great contacts, clients and ideas to expand on, the exposure was just priceless!

I’ve also expanded my services from providing only curated and scheduling of social media content. Now offering startup packages for those who need help setting up their social profiles from scratch including content. To also offering social media audits, for those wanting to get a better perspective about what’s happening on their social profiles with suggestions on improvements.

What was your favourite part about our coaching sessions?

Catching up with Lanna is like my breath of fresh air. It’s that moment when I take all those tabs open in my head, let all my ideas (good or bad) spill out, tick off my to-do lists, KPI’s and goals then start to refocus again. Sessions with Lanna ground me and help me remain on the right path. Lanna has this ability to really connect with you on a personal level while still remaining professional. She’s the person I know I can contact whenever I have those crazy ideas and I know she will listen and not judge. Lanna is efficient, detail-orientated and extremely competent in her line of work. She is an inspiration and I’m glad our paths crossed, she has definitely been a valuable asset to my progress personally and in business.

What are you focusing on for the rest of the year?

At the moment I’m focusing on putting together a workshop offering to help Accounting businesses and their internal teams better understand social media. Understanding what social media is and how it can help an Accounting business will be the foundation of this workshop. It’s important for Accountants and Bookkeepers to know why they should be using social media for their business and by running these more intimate personal sessions we hope they will gain a better perspective as to why social media can benefit them.

Any other news, events or offers you’d like to share?

You will be seeing whoSOCIAL exhibit again at the Accounting & Business Expo in Sydney March next year. We can’t wait to get back and reconnect with those that we met last year and promote the new services.

I also have a passion for women in business, as someone who has built up her career in a short space of time, not one to sit still and constantly looking at ways to push my boundaries. I think it’s important for work/life balance and mental stability that we do something that lights us up.  I have my ‘business project’, a ‘passion project’ and have just started contributing toward my ‘giving back’ project. The Organised Perspective is a blog about organisation, productivity, working from home and a snippet into my personal life with two young kids. Under this banner, I am really looking forward to presenting a workshop with Amanda Viviers for women in business, you can find out more about that here: http://amandaviviers.com/product/3-nov-how-to-get-more-done/ And you can also follow me on Instagram at @the_organised_perspective.

I met the gorgeous Alice from Caravan & Tonic at a wellness retreat a few years ago, right at the start of her journey for Caravan & Tonic. She was generous enough to share her business idea with me over the few days of the retreat and I was so excited by the idea as well as impressed by all the thought and consideration that had already gone in. When Alice reached out to me a few months later to help guide them in their pre-launch phase I jumped at it. One of the many things that impressed me about Caravan & Tonic was the strong sense of brand, which is so critical as a startup business, but also the strength of their business partnership. The girls hit the ground running and have not looked back - I have absolutely loved cheering from the sidelines and am sure it is just the beginning! Read more about Caravan & Tonic below x

Obviously I know all about you and your awesome business - but please tell the readers a little more about your business and what makes you unique?

Caravan & Tonic is a vintage inspired, mobile caravan bar - we've nicknamed her "Vinnie". We brought Vinnie home from a dusty old paddock north of Perth and converted her into what you see today. We pride ourselves on customer service, we go over and above to meet a clients needs and this is what makes us unique. We have no doubt that other similair businessss offer great service, but we make sure that ours is exceptional, and that our clients feel comfortable and confident with what they're getting.

What’s been going on since we caught up?

Yikes! We last caught up during our construction phase, so a lot has happened since then. We had a whirlwind first season that saw us completely booked out for a couple of months during summer, and have continued to build our brand and business following that.

What was your favourite part about our coaching sessions?

Definitely the focus is gave us. We were so excited about the journey we were on, and all the possibilities ahead and opportunities that were finding us - we wanted to do everything all at once! You really helped us focus on what message and identity we wanted to build into our business, and how to align ourselves with other brands and business that supported that message/brand. I remember telling Lanna how a business that made cement pots with succulents in them had contacted us and wanted to gift us a few plants for cross promotion- but what do cactus have to do with caravans? Not much! We learnt that we don't have to work with everyone, and the importance of building a strong brand identity and sticking to it.

What are you focusing on for the rest of the year?

We have some pretty exciting expansion plans coming up, and are hoping to be rolling these out in time for summer 2018. Watch this space!

Any other news, events or offers you’d like to share?

If you'd like to check Vinnie out in person, you can catch us at WANDERLUST 108 on September 9th. We'd also love to offer a deal for your readers:

15% off any new booking made before October 31st, 2017. If you've got an event coming up next year, or even a get together over summer we're offering 15% off the total package price when the deposit is paid before 31/10/2017.

One of the things I love most about my job is that I often find I learn just as much from my clients as they are (hopefully!) learning from me, and Bek is the perfect example of this. Bek left her career working for some of Perth's largest architectural firms, and on some of Perth's biggest and most iconic buildings, to start her own business whilst raising a young family. I know all too well the challenges of juggling a family with the constant demands of running and building a small business, and it was a pleasure for me to work with Bek on the refresh of her original business plan for Evolve. Her business is going from strength to strength and I can't wait to watch what comes next for her. Read more about the lovely Bek below x

Obviously I know all about you and your awesome business - but please tell the readers a little more about your business and what makes you unique?

Evolve Architecture is a boutique design practice specialising in residential and commercial projects. Ranging from new builds and renovations through to interior design and project management; working on both metro and regional based projects.

I think the 'uniqueness' lies in my transparent hands on approach.  Unlike other firms, I am the point of contact throughout the entire design process, from the initial concept through to on-site construction. The design process can be really daunting for a lot of people, especially residential builds. It is most likely the biggest investment someone will make and I invest a lot of time into making it a personalised experience. Collaboration and nurturing relationships is integral to the success of my company.

What’s been going on since we caught up?

So much! I've leased a new commercial office, launched a new look website and am now working full time.

What was your favourite part about our coaching sessions?

Lanna is just so real and down to earth. She quickly managed to decipher my stress and chaos, creating a tangible plan in streamlining my business. Lanna works with me to understand new obstacles and ways forward. Every session I walk away from feeling revitalised and energised ready to tackle anything!

What are you focusing on for the rest of the year?

'Evolving' - I'm focusing on growth and diversity of projects. I love the residential market but am now also working on more large scale commercial. I really like the juxtaposition of the two, and the challenges each sector brings.

Any other news, events or offers you’d like to share?

Evolve can now offer Design + Construct contracts, having aligned with 2 boutique builders; this can really help to streamline the whole design process. Whether you are looking to renovate, build a new home or are in the commercial sector. Would love to chat about your project!

I obviously have the benefit of hearing about so many brilliant business ideas, and I love the variety in what I do. But I can safely say that there is nothing out there like The Love Car. When I met Mandy, and first heard all about their business idea, I was blown away. It had such simplicity, but was so unusual and had so much personality. And the fact that their entire business idea centres around the emotional experience that music creates for their customers - well, I was a fan from day one! These guys have done a truly incredible job in setting up their business and I know it won't be long until everyone in Perth will know all about the awesomeness of The Love Car. Read more about Mandy & Colin's story below x

Obviously I know all about you and your awesome business - but please tell the readers a little more about your business and what makes you unique?

The Love Car is unique in many ways. It is unique in that it is an Australian first, and we also consider it to be one of the most unique (and meaningful) gifts a person can send to another.

Essentially we deliver “feels on wheels”. We use your words and back it with a personalised soundtrack and deliver it via our pimped out, confetti popping, jaw dropping VW Beetle with state of the art sound system. It is the perfect way to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or to simply brighten someone’s day. Only those who have received a personal Love Car delivery understand the Love Car feeling, it’s a feeling that can’t be put into words and leaves you feeling a million bucks. We could all do with a bit more ‘love’ in our lives, right!?!

We are local to Perth but you don’t have to live in Perth (or Australia) to book a Love Car experience for someone. It is actually an ideal gift for those who don’t live in Perth or work away and can’t make it back for a special occasion. The Love Car provides a way for you to connect with that person (or persons) on that day and we guarantee they will feel your presence!

What’s been going on since we caught up?

First and foremost we are in business!

We have had an amazing response and coverage of our business through all forms of media, The West Australian, The Sunday Times and more locally through the Fremantle Gazette. We have even made it to National TV with our story making it to the Today Show where they were able to film us doing a real delivery! It has been an amazing ride so far and we cannot wait to see what lies ahead.

What was your favourite part about our coaching sessions?

There is so much ‘noise’ when trying to start up a new business it is so easy to get lost and it can be hard to know where to focus your energy. I loved that your sessions kept focus on specific goals that led to the end result of having a solid business plan at the end that we could easily follow and we still refer back to it when we are feeling a little side tracked. And catching up for a coffee in good company each week was an added bonus!

What are you focusing on for the rest of the year?

To continue to grow awareness of our business and bring back some love (in all its forms).

We want to have a bit of fun experimenting with the different ways the Love Car can be used in sharing different kinds of love, such as a bit of light hearted banter between mates. Although the Love Car is a concept taken from Brazil, we can’t wait to put our Australian mark on it and what better way than with a bit of Aussie banter? Some people struggle to show their emotions and the Love Car can be a fun way of showing you care without having to get too mushy. That’s not to say we don’t enjoy Love Car deliveries to the hopeless romantics of Perth. We are yet to do a proposal – that would be a hoot!

Any other news, events or offers you’d like to share?

We have been called entrepreneurs and now walk around a little taller due to this official title ;)

As mentioned earlier, our main focus for the remainder of the year is to get our unique experience out there. We would love to rock up in someone’s driveway with tunes blaring in the background while we play a pre-recorded message or one liner from someone’s Bestie. There may not be anyone else that understands the message, but the person it’s intended for will get it especially when they hear the music that the message has been paired with. We can assure you the smile on their face would be hard to wipe for weeks to come.

It doesn’t have to be a big occasion to book a Love Car experience and that is why we would like to offer a Love Car delivery to someone who wants to share a bit of love with their Bestie (or workmate, or partner, or heck even a stranger), our shout!

The first person to directly contact us via hello@lovecar.com.au who has someone in Perth that they would like to share some 'love' with, will receive a free Love Car delivery!

I read an article the other day that alarmed me, but did not surprise me. It said that consumers are becoming more and more resistant to marketing, and social media marketing in particular. Now the reason why I say this is not surprising is because this is a trend that has been going on for decades. With the evolution of media and technology, consumers are becoming more and more savvy, knowledgeable and demanding, and in particular the 'digital natives' of the millennial (Gen Y) generation are the driving force behind a revolution of sorts. That is - businesses and brands are being forced to level up in their sales and marketing approach, to be more authentic, more personalised and more socially responsible. They want to do business with businesses that are invested in them, and making the world around them a better place.

So whilst from my perspective, both as a millennial and as a business owner, this is all great stuff, it does make things tougher. Marketing is constantly evolving and to make sure your business is cutting through the constant 'noise', you need to make sure you have a compelling, values based-strategy, that is going to communicate clearly and powerfully with your customers, and potential customers. The objective is the same as it always was - to create long term customers that are deeply engaged with you & your brand - customers that are essentially ambassadors for your business because they love you so much. They love the difference you make in their lives, and the experience you provided. Tapping into that potential is a must-do if you want your brand to have longevity and relevance over time.

So let's talk about social media marketing, and how this evolution in how we're consuming our marketing & advertising messages is so important. I don't know about you, but social media has become all consuming for me, and so many people I know. Both personally & professionally, it is a tool we use daily that isn't going away any time soon. The power of it in business cannot be denied, and to be blunt if you are not utilising social media in your business strategy - well, you need to. But there is also no denying that if you are using social media as part of your total marketing strategy, that done properly it takes up quite a significant amount of time. Not only to produce quality content, but to interact and engage with your wider community. So understandably, that leaves many businesses having to take a really close look at whether or not there's a decent enough ROI to justify the amount of time and money spent on it.

And therein lies the problem. We have consumers demanding more engaging, more personalised and more authentic content, and many businesses moving away from social media as they need to gain efficiency, reduce cost and focus on activities that have a more measurable and immediate ROI. So what do we do about it?

Get back to basics. Now I know it sounds easier said than done! But it doesn't have to be. Make sure you have a vision and mission for your business that is inspiring, engaging and based around creating an emotional experience for your customers. Have strong business values - things that your brand stands for, that you and your staff uphold and the things that you want your customers to feel. This is the first step in creating a fantastic strategy for your business - and without it it's going to be very hard to create sales and marketing messages that stand out from the crowd. And yes, I always say sales AND marketing. Why? Because they are two different functions of your business and should be treated that way. I see so many businesses putting all their eggs in one basket - either all in the sales basket, and not enough in marketing (and often this goes hand in hand with little or no investment in their branding). Or, and this is the more common scenario, businesses investing all of their time, R&D, and A&P budget on social media marketing. To succeed in an environment like this businesses simply must adopt a multifaceted approach, with heart. With a social conscience. With a dream to understand and make a difference in their customer's lives.

And it all starts with a great strategy.

When I first met Kirsten I was so thrilled she'd found me - Kirsten is one of those people that just grabs life by the neck and gives it her all - no matter what she does. Like me, she is a salesperson at heart - and I mean that as a huge compliment! She understands firstly that her business success is her responsibility, and understands how to go out there and create her own opportunities. And so for me, coaching her was so much fun, and watching all of her success is something that gives me a huge buzz. One of the things I really loved about Kirsten was her values - she has so much integrity and is so passionate about helping her clients. She is an absolute dynamo and deserves every bit of success that comes her way.

Obviously I know all about you and your awesome business - but please tell the readers a little more about your business and what makes you unique?

It was 2006 when I joined the finance industry where I worked from one company to another, providing financial services to my clients. However, there was something missing. I felt unaccomplished. There is a false security in the corporate world. Being a pro-active, go-getter, and competitive individual that I am, I took that leap of faith. I branched out on my own, started a mortgage company which is built on referrals. Two years later, Soul Finance Group is becoming a recognised finance company in Perth.

We are a group of professional and licensed Finance brokers offering a range of finance services to our clients that are wishing to achieve their financial goals. We save you from doing all the legwork and make your financing experience as easy as possible.  Whether you are a first-home buyer, needing general insurance, seeking debt consolidation advise, or wishing to secure a vehicle finance, we strategically analyse your financial situation and find the best deal in the market. We assure you that this deal is what best suits your financial capability. All of this available to you at no charge. My services to you are FREE. There’s no sales here, a trick, or a catch—all you have to provide us is your financial goals on hand and we can help you achieve those.

Competition is tight in my industry but I’d like to think that what sets my business apart is my focus on my clients. I can’t reiterate enough that it’s always about putting your clients’ needs first.

What’s been going on since we caught up?

I’ve recently added two Finance Brokers to my company. I have been training them for the past 12 months and I’m loving the progress. I’m still on the lookout for one more broker since I’m really serious about expanding my business. Not only will it positively affect my sales target, but also I love opportunities where I can share my knowledge to finance professionals within my industry. Marketing-wise, we hit our target numbers for our social media accounts and I couldn’t have done it without the insights Lanna has been providing me.

One of my finance brokers, Mike Hawtin, has recently been awarded as a state finalist in the 2017 MFAA Awards Excellence under the category Motor Vehicle and Equipment Finance Broker Award.

What was your favourite part about our coaching sessions?

My favourite part is when I’m having those ‘aha’ moments—where Lanna shares her marketing insights and it finally does make sense with my business! I love how I can share with her my struggles and success and be able to witness the progress. I always find myself looking forward to our meetings because I know it's another learning session that I would excitedly apply to my business at the end of the day. She has provided up-to-date insights that have effectively contributed to the growth of my company. Through her, I was able to meet fellow boss babes and business owners which has served as an avenue in widening my network.

What are you focusing on for the rest of the year?

Expanding my business and focusing on my clients. My clients had served as one of the pillars in this success. Had it not been for them, I won’t be able to achieve the kind of passion I have right now. I am consistently improving my business to serve my clients better. It is in my best interest to provide them the most quality service they deserve. It is when I’m able to make their dreams a reality, whether helping them get their dream house or dream car, or just relieve them the burden of high mortgage payment, that I know I am where I should be. Finance is such a vital factor in any household and I’m glad I can offer my expertise to anyone needing it

Any other news, events or offers you’d like to share?

Aside from my services being absolutely FREE, I provide all of my clients financial guide and tips that they can work on at absolutely no charge.

I am also conducting a monthly competition on my Facebook business page where I give away gift cards and vouchers from your favourite stores. Recently, I had given away VIP cinema gold tickets, Sephora voucher, and an H&M Gift card!

And again, one of my finance brokers, Mike Hawtin, is a state finalist in the 2017 MFAA Awards Excellence under the category Motor Vehicle and Equipment Finance Broker Award. So proud of him!

So tonight's feature is a very special one to me! I have known the gorgeous and very clever founder of The Meet Up Collective, Isabella Mitchell, literally all her life. We lived next door to each other growing up and my sister & I used to babysit Isabella and her younger sister - they are definitely family to us! Watching Isabella blossom into such a dynamic, confident and talented young woman has been (and continues to be!) an absolute pleasure, and I couldn't have been happier to help Isabella with the launch of her business. The Meet Up Collective is a collective with a conscience, and is going to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people all over Perth. As a mother of two it makes me so happy to see that there are young people like Isabella in the world - and I will be sending my kids her way when the time comes! Tonight I am thrilled to be shining the light on the gorgeous and very clever Krissy Ropiha of Her Nourished. Krissy is as gorgeous as she is multitalented and was an absolute pleasure to work with - the sky is truly the limit for Krissy's business! One of my favourite parts about her business and brand are the values that sit behind it. Krissy's passion of helping women - busy mothers - is very clear to see, and the engagement she has with her clients and community is testament to this. I'm sure Krissy won't mind me saying I am quite sure she will be one of Australia's best known identities in the field of women's health and nutrition - she has star written all over her! Do yourself a favour and head over to Krissy's website and get involved - and have a read through her story below x

Obviously I know all about you and your awesome business - but please tell the readers a little more about your business and what makes you unique?

Thanks Lanna!  I’m Krissy, a mumma of two and owner of Her Nourished, a health hub for busy mums who are struggling to balance their weight without feeling as though restrictive dieting is their only option (because it’s totally not!).  I have a background in Psychology (BScHons) which perfectly compliments health coaching, BUT most importantly I have personally struggled with ( and overcome) a difficult relationship with food.

What makes me unique is perhaps that I don’t subscribe to labelling the way you eat, restricting food or creating “cheat meals”.  Instead my focus is on achievable and sustainable actions that even the busiest of mums can incorporate into daily life.  My view is simple, easy and quick nourishment without guilt, and when you eat this way your weight naturally starts to balance.

At Her Nourished I share my favourite easy recipes, recipes for fussy toddlers (all toddler-approved, and those kids are tough critics let me tell you!), health tips and actionable steps to balance your weight without restrictive dieting.

What’s been going on since we caught up?

I honestly feel as though my business has a new lease of life since starting with Lanna and I have so much exciting stuff going on!  Since we last spoke I’ve had a podcast interview, sent a few of my favourite Winter recipes to a local magazine and I’ve also been working on my ebook project!

What was your favourite part about our coaching sessions?

My favourite part of our coaching sessions would have to be the excitement when an idea starts to come to life as well as the clarity and focus I feel when I get off the phone with you.  I think I mention it every session but one of my biggest struggles as a creative and mum is focusing and not feeling as though I need to do 101 things at once.  Your ability to create clarity and focus even if I have ideas running around my mind has allowed me to create TIME to work on the projects that matter most as well as reduced the amount of time I was spending doing tasks that perhaps weren’t as important.

What are you focusing on for the rest of the year?

The focus for the remainder of the year is to get an incredibly helpful and useful guide and recipe book out to my beautiful and busy mumma’s! I can’t wait to share it and help busy mums discover just how simple it can be to include nourishing meals into their week that not only support health but also help mums feel balanced in their weight without restricting, counting calories or feeling food-guilt.

Any other news, events or offers you’d like to share?

While we are waiting for the launch of the Her Nourished guide for busy mums I would LOVE to offer your busy mums 20% off my custom menu plan (RRP $90).  This is the perfect option for mums who feel as though they are struggling to come up with meal ideas each day but know that it’s time to prioritise their health too.  The plan is custom-designed based on your likes, dislikes and family meals.

For your custom menu plan please email krissy@hernourished.com and share that you read this article for 20% off (offer valid until 31 June 2017).

And I’d love to see your faces in my private and non-judgemental support group “Mums supporting mums to feel fabulously healthy”!  Find us here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/384375221955464/

I am thrilled to be kicking off my new blog series, Client Catch Up, tonight with the wonderful and very talented Ania Drouet. One of the best parts of my job is getting to know my client's businesses, and more specifically that moment when I see all the potential, ready to be capitalised on! Ania specialises in 'places, faces and spaces' - property & interiors, and brand and headshot photography for business owners. I love her style and can't wait to see more wonderful work from her! Obviously I know all about you and your awesome business - but please tell the readers a little more about your business and what makes you unique?

Above all, my biggest thing that sets me apart is customer service. Having owned multiple small businesses in the past and having 13 years experience in the primary healthcare sector, my key strength is being able to relate to and communicate with people of all ages and demographics, I mean lets face it, people HATE going to the dentist right?

I pride myself on offering a professional service, that is streamlined for the time poor small business owner and fun for the camera shy individual. Most people hate having their photo taken and think they look “bad” in any photos they ever see of themselves. My laid back shoot approach, leaves my clients relaxed and not feeling “fake” in front of the camera, instead capturing their real personality and traits (& lots of candid moments) to reflect their brand/business.

What’s been going on since we caught up?

Since I've had coaching with Lanna, I have been doing a lot more 'small business branding’ packages. I have had the pleasure of meeting amazing new (and well established) small business owners, who are after an edge to their website and social media presence with personalised branding images that speak their BRAND.

My other passion is property & interiors photography and so I am constantly on the lookout for creatives in this industry with whom I can work with on a regular basis to showcase their talents - architects, boutique builders, interior designs, homewares retailers, interiors stylists, the list goes on.

What was your favourite part about our coaching sessions?

I loved the flexibility with session times, being able to do it after-hours, was a huge convenience and advantage for me, rather than trying to fit it into daytime hours. I also liked the fact there was homework/exercises to do following the first session and the was this was relayed immediately after the first session.

What are you focusing on for the rest of the year?

Apart from the above, I’m also excited about another side project/business that I have in the pipeline. I was very fortunate to team up with a local Perth web design and content business (after meeting one of the co-owners though the PGB’s group) to offer a personalised, complete digital web design service for healthcare professionals - a niche that was missing locally in Perth until NOW! Watch this space for more soon!

Any other news, events or offers you’d like to share?

I'd like to offer a $100 discount on my 'small business branding photography package' (normally $500) for all bookings until the end of July 2017.
