Here is a folk remedy for those days when you're out of sorts and not feeling well. Comforting and packed with the healing power of garlic, this soup is good for what ails you!

Ingredients:
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds, crushed with a mortar and pestle
  • 2 cups chopped potatoes
  • 7 cups good-quality vegetable stock or water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 Cloves Garlic, crushed
  • 1 tablespoon butter or butter alternative
  • Optional: Garnish with croutons, a green such as spinach leaves, parsley
Directions:
  1. Simmer potatoes and caraway seeds in stock or water for 20 minutes, or until potatoes are very soft.
  2. Add crushed Garlic and butter, stirring to combine thoroughly.
  3. Serve hot with croutons on top, if desired.

Serves 2.

Carrot face masks make a soothing and moisturizing mask that leaves dry skin soft and silky.

Carrot Face Mask

Boil three large carrots and puree in a food processor. Add 5 tbsp. yogurt and mix well. Apply in an upward motion, and leave on for 15 minutes, then splash off with warm water.

Variation:
  • 2-3 large carrots
  • 4 1/2 tablespoons honey

Cook carrots, then mash. Mix with honey. Apply gently to the skin, wait 10 minutes. Rinse off with cool water.

Ingredients:

Directions:

According to H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological Chemistry, and Dr. Jeffrey Utz, Neuroscience, pediatrics, Allegheny University: (7)

  • Your brain and heart are composed of 73 percent water.
  • Your lungs are about 83 percent water.
  • Your skin contains 64 percent water.
  • Your muscles and kidneys are 79 percent
  • Your bones are watery 31 percent.
  • Newborn babies are made up of about 78 percent water.
  • By one year of age, this drops to 65 percent.
  • In adult men, roughly 60 percent of their bodies are made up of water.
  • In adult women, the percentage of about 55 percent because they naturally have more fat tissue.

Our body is a veritable sponge and if you want to detox and cleanse your body from impurities, drinking water is the best way to flush them out of your system! According to Dr. Chris Perkins, the best type to accomplish this is alkaline water that has been ionized.

People have been supplementing vitamins and minerals in various forms for thousands of years. Yet, today, things have gone overboard. Unfortunately, many multi-vitamins are a waste of money and not needed as they oftentimes cause a dangerous imbalance of vitamins and minerals in the body.

  • 43 percent of all adults suffer adverse health effects from stress.
  • 75 to 90 percent of all physician office visits are for stress-related ailments and complaints.
  • Stress is linked to the six leading causes of death–heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, accidents, cirrhosis of the liver, and suicide.
  • The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has declared stress a hazard of the workplace.

As many of you have experienced, money is the leading cause of stress in America today.  (20) Being the primary cause of stress for 64 percent of Americans (nearly 75 percent of everyone has reported experiencing stress about money), other main contributors to stress include: (21)

  • Work (60 percent)
  • Family responsibilities (47 percent)
  • Health concerns (46 percent)

Because these main stressors are oftentimes unavailable, it’s more of a matter of how we manage these stressors, then it is in avoiding them. This is why these Top 10 stress relieving techniques are absolutely critical for people on the quest to prevent disease and keep sickness at bay: (22)

  1. Prayer/Meditation – nurturing your spiritual side is key when dealing with stress.
  2. Breathe deeply – from the belly, not the chest.
  3. Be present – present time consciousness, no distractions.
  4. Reach out – being social creatures, people are NOT designed to be alone.
  5. Tune in to your body – listen and pay attention to the signs and clues.
  6. Decompress – chiropractic, essential oils and therapeutic massage are fantastic ways to manage stress at the neurological and cellular level.

#5 Avoiding Toxins

One of the main causes of stress is toxic overload. White processed sugar, high fructose corn syrup and all of their evil cronies are arguably the most dangerous substances on the planet and should be avoided at all cost! Nancy Appleton, PhD claims that there are more than 140 ways that sugar can annihilate your health. (23) Here are just a few: (24, 25, 26)

  • Cause dental carries.
  • Cause skin conditions like acne and eczema.
  • Contribute to hormone imbalance and adrenal fatigue.
  • Deplete your body of natural energy and prevents mineral absorption in your bones.
  • Encourage stomach ulcer formation.
  • Feed candida.
  • Greatly inhibit metabolism.
  • Lead to osteoporosis and arthritis.
  • Cause gallstones.
  • Spike blood sugar levels.
  • Suppress the immune system.

According to nutrition expert K.C. Craichy (Quest for the Cures), just 100 grams of sugar inhibits our white blood cell’s ability to kill the pathogens in our body by up to 90 percent. And this happens within 15 minutes of consumption! (27) Additionally, in the words of the American Anti-Cancer Institute,

When we consume sugar, we are simultaneously shutting off our defenses while pouring gasoline on the fire that is Cancer. When we take into account that “50 to 70 percent of our total immune system cells cannot see cancer … even on our best day,” the notion of adding it to our diet seems even more blasphemous (A.J. Lanigan, Quest for the Cures). (28)

Similarly, we see the same with other environmental toxins, which is why we all need to minimize them as much as possible!

#6 Regular Cleansing & Detox

Because environmental toxins are veritably impossible to avoid, regular cleansing and detox are also key to bolstering your immune system.

Two of the more effective strategies are the Master Cleanse and coffee enemas.

Also known the Lemonade Diet, the Master Cleanse was designed by Stanley Burroughs in the mid-1940s to help place the human body in the position where it could heal itself of disease. (29) His work was (and still is) brilliant because the special concoction of fresh lemon juice, pure maple syrup and cayenne pepper helps sustain people during a 10 day fast so that the energy that is normally required to fuel the digestive system can be used to fight illnesses.

  • First, squeeze fresh lemon juice.
  • Then add Grade B or C maple syrup, and powdered cayenne pepper into filtered water.
  • Drink a minimum of 6 to 12 glasses throughout the day.

Coffee enemas go hand-in-hand with the Master Cleanse and have been used since the early 20th century. They are known to help relieve constipation, insomnia and cognitive problems. They are also effective at eliminating candida and other pathogens without disrupting intestinal flora. Coffee enemas are regularly used in natural cancer protocols and were even part of the Merck Manual up until the mid 1970s. (30)

#7 Peaceful, Sound Sleep

Quality sleep is intricately intertwined with longevity and overall health. (31) Of course, the amount of sleep that is required by each person is unique to that individual. Still, most experts agree that most people should get an average of 7 hours every night. In the words of one study, “Average sleep quality was better related to sleepiness than sleep quantity,” so people should minimize these common sleep disturbances as much as possible:

  • Eating late at night – as well as drinking caffeinated beverages after 5:00 p.m.
  • Electromagnetic frequency (EMFs) – turn off your cell phone and Wi-Fi router at night)
  • Excessive stress – Can cause nightmares and wandering thoughts.
  • Poor quality mattress and pillow – about a third of your life is spent in bed, so don’t skimp on the cost because you usually get what you pay for!
#8 Regular Exercise

Yep, regular exercise is #8! Bet you thought it would have been part of the Top 3! Truth is, people don’t need to exercise. The only reason exercise is beneficial (and, yes, it is beneficial) is because we live such sedentary lifestyles. Since the beginning of time, people didn’t “exercise,” they simply lived a life of consistent, regular movement.

During his TED talk, National Geographic reporter Dan Buettner uncovered some key insights in what makes the “Blue Zones” uniquely distinct from the rest of the world. Blue Zones – those regions where people regularly live to 100 years and beyond include the highlands of Sardinia, the northern part Okinawa, and the Seventh-Day Adventist community in Lomo Linda, California.

Shocking the nation, Buettner discovered that NONE of these communities exercised. They live a life of movement and they tend to walk a lot. They also tend to garden and do my things “by hand.” So, to live like a Blue Zoner, you need to get moving!

#9 Eat Your Dirt!

Humic and fulvic acid are tiny particles that can be found in humic substances (aka dirt). They are nature’s nutrition carriers and are created by soil-based organisms (SBOs), the probiotics that you’ve probably never heard of before. (32) To maintain a robust immune system to prevent disease, your gut flora needs to be balanced and SBOs help considerably.

What You Need: Here's How:

1. Add rose hip seed oil to a clean, sanitized colored glass bottle.
2. Add 5 drops of Rosewood oil.

Benefits, Indications:  White sage may soothe burns, mouth sores and insect bites while keeping them clean so the body can heal them. It also keeps the skin supple so the scars that result are less noticeable.

This oil will tonify or strengthen the body and mind with an overall cooling effect.  White sage is the main herb in smudge sticks used by many Native American traditions. Some Native American peoples burned white sage in sweat lodges for purification. Burning the leaves of white sage is also used to fumigate a home or dwelling after a contagion and to purify the air during and after illness.

Stress relieving and calming, this oil helps to minimize anxious thoughts and dispel fears. It also is useful for soothing strong emotional reactions and providing more balanced, rational thinking.

White is sage used to support the body during times of respiratory system distress. Skin toner. Purifier. Excellent in home cleaning.  It can be diffused to purify room environments, or a drop can be rubbed on the hands to disinfect and clear energy between clients. Although there is very little data on White Sage essential oil, herbalist Michael Moore notes that the diterpenes in the oil address a wide range of microbes, while the balance of potent aromatics maximizes penetration, increasing efficacy of the oil’s beneficial actions.

White sage may be useful for women who need to regulate female hormones. Applied topically (diluted) to the abdomen or the bottoms of the feet, it may help minimize PMS symptoms, reduce painful periods, and balance hormones related to menopause.

Chemical Constituents: 1,8 -cineole (34.5%), camphor (21.7&%), B-pinene (7.4%), a-pinene (6.4%), delta-3-carene (6.4%), camphene (3.9%), limonene (3.5%), myrcene (3.2%), and terpinolene (1.3%), This study deduced that the chemicals in the plant work by synergy on microbes or other uses. No thujone (ketone) was found in this study (http://handle.nal.usda.gov/10113/45822).

Companion Oils: Juniper, geranium, lavender, jasmine, neroli, lemon, bergamot and other citrus oils;  frankincense, cedarwood, sandalwood, vetiver, marjoram, Greenland Moss, immortelle, bergamot, fir, pine, spruce, peppermint, oregano.

  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 2 tablespoons unflavored gelatine
  • 1 tablespoon sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tablespoon stale beer

Combine ingredients in a small bowl. Comb or brush into hair. Cover hair with a plaster shower cap or wrap with a Sheet of plastic wrap. Cover with a thick terrycloth towel. Leave the treatment on for 30 minutes, then rinse in warm water. Shampoo the hair.
