Good morning, We had a full day in London on
Saturday. We walked from our hotel near St. Pancras
Station to St. Paul’s Cathedral
taking in some of the historical sites along
the way thanks to an audio walking tour. For
this attraction, buying our tickets directly from
the Cathedral before we left home paid off. There
wasn’t anyone in the queues that we went through
so other than waiting a couple o...
Good evening from London, Thursday was a free
day. Good news...the sun was finally
shining. Yippee!!! After a lovely morning
walk, we headed over to catch the funicular
up to the Harder Kulm viewpoint. The lineup
wasn’t too bad so we were able to get
on the 10:40 car. Within 10 minutes, we went
from 566 meters/1857 feet to 1,322
meters/4337 feet above sea level and the views were
amazing. I have s...
A step closer to home - flying to London this
afternoon (Tuesday) and catching Qantas home to
Australia, Wednesday midday. We touch down
in Perth on Thursday evening and arrive
Brisbane in the early hours of Friday morning.
The Croats live in a permanent state of “slow
motion”, and there is a real relaxed, “no
worry” attitude. Everywhere in Croatia, we
experienced a leisurely pace, and nothing hap...
Good morning from London, After an overnight
flight “across the pond“ we
arrived in London England on Wednesday
morning. We’re spending two nights in
London before we meet up with our tour group on Friday.
On this trip we’re really looking
forward to exploring more of Europe! On
Wednesday, the weather in London was sunny
and warm. We took the subway from Heathrow to the
Piccadilly Circus station, ...
Last day in Windsor Cold start - 6 degrees at 9
am. Windsor is such a pretty town, not as
touristy and many traditional shops. Today
is the London Marathon - unfortunately we
didn’t get our entry in time, so were
not allowed to run the 45 kms! There were 40,000
competitors. Oldest competitor to complete course was 84
years old taking 6 hours - the winner, a Kenyan took 2
hours. We didn’t see it, b...
12 hours sleep and feeling well rested. Cold
and blustery winds, so out came the winter
woollies. Breakfast overlooking the Thames,
then walked to shops, and lined up to watch
Changing of the Guard at Windsor Castle. Hushed
anticipation from the crowd as we heard the drum beat
approaching in the distance, and soon the Guards rounded
the corner - all resplendent in their red
uniforms and bear skin ...
Boarded A380 to London. So grateful for an
upgrade to Business Class. It was a thirteen
and half hour flight. Today is our 44th
Wedding Anniversary and we woke from 8 hour
sleep on the plane to celebrate it over Turkey. The
crowds queueing at Heathrow Immigration were horrendous,
and again grateful for Fast Track, and on
our way to Hotel in Windsor in very short
time. Although it was only 8.30 am...
It's a darn long trip to Stansted. First
getting to Toronto and muck about. Then a
nice upgrade to just under business class
tricks you into thinking that you can
actually fold down the seat to rest - but alas - it's
just a little illusion - the little bit of
leg room is good but that's about all. Still
can't sleep on the planes. And the
"filet" steak was carved from a 50 year old
I’m not really sure why I wanted to
visit London initially. I think partially
because everyone does it. Things are kind of
weird right now between Ireland and the UK
because of Brexit but a lot of people think it will
take a long time for anything to really happen. The
morning of my flight I really didn’t want to go.
I think I was just in a bad mood and was a
little worried about traveling alone...
Day 1 - We’re off! The first leg is a
coach trip down to Heathrow. We left at
midday & got to our overnight hotel near
Heathrow airport about 6.30pm. Nice &
clean & only a short bus ride from the airport,
our pensioners bus passes are a blessing. We had our
first American meal after we had settled in,
we walked down the road to a nearby
McDonalds, a good start....
