MyTripJournal evolved from a real trip taken by founding members Faye and Dan Parlow and our two children, Adrian and Robin from September through December, 2001. Travel junkies by nature, Dan and I have spent years of their lives on the road, backpacking through more than 30 countries on 6 continents including Las Vegas.
After we got all set up at the wonderful Las
Vegas Motorcoach Resort we basically did
nothing. There, that catches you up on our
Monday events. Don’t get your hopes
up...our Tuesday wasn’t much better. I took the
Jeep to get washed then did some more sprucing up to
make it look like it belongs in this ritzy
park. It has been taking a beating lately
and as it approaches 98,000 miles,
I’ve been tryi...
Saturday, September 23, 2017 we had a
Celebration of Life service for Larry here
in Henderson, Nevada. It was attended by
many family & friends, making it a very
special day. We had an open mic and anyone who wished to
speak was invited to share or comment with a memory. A
poem 'As I See It' written by our friend
Phill Randall from Custer, South Dakota was
read by nephew Ken Fiscus, a text sent by...
Wow, it's been a huge couple of days, no time
for 'dear tripjournal'. We really enjoyed
our final day in Vegas and in fact I would
have enjoyed one more day there as by then
we had the land of fake all sorted and were enjoying
the Blackjack tables and pokey machines. It's an amazing
atmosphere, the noise level is massive, wherever you go
there is music, people enjoying themselves, food and alcohol...
Las Vegas - Disneyland for adults, happy land.
Donald Trump would love it, as it adds a whole new
meaning to the word 'fake'. It's gauche,
over the top but heaps of fun. Everybody
here is having fun, laughing (even whilst
gambling, so different to the atmosphere in casinos I've
visited anywhere else in the world where the gamblers
appear to be facing a life and death
situation), drinking, eating ...
It is with great sadness that I tell you that
Larry passed on August 28, 2017. As you know
he had been fighting a two year battle with
cancer. This dreaded disease finally became
too much for his human body to handle. Just know that
Larry was at great peace, knowing that he would soon be
walking with Jesus in his heavenly home with a new
glorified body. We were fortunate enough to
have time for h...
Righto Las Vegas, we are on our way, brighten
those lights, heat up the Tables and get
ready to bedazzle and surprise us! There is
a small matter of a 14 hour flight on United
Airlines (ugghh) looming, however I've already
transported my mind to 'The Strip' and plenty of razzle
and dazzle. See you at the Luxor (just the
idea of staying in a fake pyramid makes me smile)....
Saturday (Joe's actual Birthday) we left Dan
and Lisa's with slightly delicate heads and
headed for Sin City which took roughly 4 and
a half hours to get there. Naturally we had
to stop en route for an IHOP birthday
breakfast. We arrived at the hottest (48 degrees) and
busiest (Labour day weekend) place on earth. The evening
was spent drinking and mooching, the less
said the better! Sunday and to...
We left Waldport this afternoon and drove to
Eugene Oregon for our 7:00 PM flight to Las
Vegas. We are flying back to Las Vegas with
Betty for a few days. Betty’s month
with us went by so fast, it’s hard to believe
it’s already over. We had a superb time showing
her the beautiful Oregon Coast as well as
parts of Washington too, this added two new
states for her. We will be staying at
Betty’s home ...
It is one week before this years vacation.
Today I will start calling hotels and tour
guide companies that I have reservations
with in order to reconfirm all of the
reservations. I do not know if it is necessary these
days but I am old school so I will start
calling today. One week from today, we will
be traveling to Flagstaff, Arizona to visit
the Lowell Observatory so I will call the hotel in Fl...
Managing to negotiate (sweet talk) my way out
of the resort fee (wtf), and get the
concierge lounge access thrown in free, I
decided to stay in a big hotel. Passing up
the cheaper alternative of hostel without pool or
Hooters! Ouch!! Note to self: when the
temperature reaches 111F (42C) must wear
shoes for walk to pool! Not that I seen it but
apparently there is also a sign up stating you MUST! Wh...
