Today marks my 36th birthday and my 6 month pregnancy milestone. I can’t believe how quickly time flies! 36th is going to be an incredible year because I’ll get to embark all the new experiences and challenges that is soon to come. I’m sharing a very special set of intimate photos in this post to celebrate my birthday and Mother’s Day.
I was invited by Anita Lingerie and The Kit to join four other expectant mothers across Canada to participate in a Mother’s Day maternity photoshoot taken by Celebrity Photographer George Pimentel. Anita is a German-based lingerie and swimwear brand. They are focused on helping women at every stage of their life, from sports bras to maternity to nursing bra.
There are SO many body changes experienced when you’re pregnant, but the one I noticed first definitely had to do with getting new bras! The Anita Lingerie team provided so much support (no pun intended) to me and recommended many choices to get me through this ever changing journey. I’m sure every woman would agree with me that, the wrong bra can cause discomfort. When you’re wearing the wrong bra while pregnant, well that’s a whole other level of pain! With the help with Anita Lingerie, I was properly fitted and also equipped with knowledge as I anticipate for the nursing journey.
I was originally nervous and reluctant to post these photos as I’ve honestly been very self-conscious about my body. I’ve gained more weight that I had anticipated and new curves are appearing everywhere! But being pregnant was something that I had worked long and hard on and I’ve come to both embrace and love the changes I’m seeing and therefore, these photos will always be a reminder to me of just how beautiful pregnancy and a woman’s body is.
These were taken when was 16 weeks and today, as I reached 24 weeks, I am in awe of how big my belly has grown! It’s so fun to capture the week by week progress and soon, he will be in our arms!
Though this little boy is still growing in my belly, I already feel all sorts of mom feels! I’m mentally and emotionally preparing myself for mom life and so, even though he’s not quite ready to say hello to the world yet, this Mother’s Day is a special one because it’s one that is preparing me for motherhood and therefore, definitely worth celebrating.
I partnered with Joe Fresh for Mother’s Day to “Free My Fresh” and pick up a new skill before the arrival of our little one, because I mean… who knows how much time I’ll have by then! I’ve always wanted to learn the techniques of hand lettering and calligraphy properly. And since I’m starting to plan out the nursery, this would be just the opportunity to create a piece of hand lettering wall art for our nugget.
I invited Sylvia of Via Calligraphy to give me a private lesson in our home last weekend. I met Sylvia a few years ago before she started her Calligraphy business. Let me tell you, she’s a girl boss! Marketer by day and creative by night. I can definitely relate. She is known for #TheJustMarriedJacket, you’ve got to check it out if you haven’t!
Sylvia runs several group Calligraphy Classes in Toronto and can also facilitate private sessions. Her classes cover all the basics in hand lettering and supplies required. In merely two hours I was able to start with basic strokes and then eventually create a fun piece for the nursery.
I learned about the techniques, drawing directions, applying the right pressure, differences between various pens/tools used to achieve styles of lettering, and most importantly was able to practice, practice, practice!
I always had a knack when it came to arts and crafts. I mean I am a DIY-er at heart! But I’m definitely a hacker rather than a true artist, creating something totally unique and from scratch. With the techniques that Sylvia shared with me, I’m confident that I can now create hand lettering art on my own without too much guidance and perhaps overtime be able to integrate my own ‘flare’ and style of lettering! I’m sure I will be getting some requests from friends for wedding seating charts and baby shower signs soon! LOL
This piece will definitely be framed and put up in the babe’s room and will always remind me of how I celebrated my first unofficial Mother’s Day.
Happy Easter weekend friends! Recently, I partnered with IKEA Canada to pull off a Market Hall Haul with only $100 of budget. I shopped the best and affordable pieces to create a beautiful Spring table setting that is 100% Easter appropriate! If you’re entertaining this weekend and still scrambling to impress, head on over to IKEA for some last minute shopping!
Here is some inspiration for you full of Spring pastels and products that are versatile for any occasion.
Dressing up a dining table doesn’t have to be a monumental feat. You can easily add an elegant punch by choosing dining ware that have unique details such as the ARV bowls and plates that have a cute scalloped edge. In addition, choose a pop of colour to layer up serving dishes instead of sticking to only one! I choose the same style of bowls and plates but opted for white and this gorgeous lilac/grey colour as well.
Decorate with a DIY flower centrepiece and add some occasional appropriate trimmings – in this case, chocolate Easter eggs anyone?
K, I’m SO stoked about this post because I’m finally sharing the gender of our little mini!!! Are you guys ready?! Drum roll….WE’RE HAVING A BOY!!!
Majority of you guessed girl via Instagram and for quite some time I thought we were expecting a baby girl as well. But the sooner I got to my week 20 scan, I knew deep down a little man was growing inside of me! I am super thrilled, and by Kyle’s immediate reaction: “The Higgins name lives on!”, I think he’s pretty excited too. LOL
It’s becoming so much more real now and I also started to feel him flutter and bounce inside, which I must say is the WEIRDEST and most INCREDIBLE feeling at the same time. I promise to share my mid-way point journey soon, but in the meantime, I hope you enjoy these photos captured by amazing photographer, Laura Clarke Photography.
I’ve seen plenty of gender reveal ideas such as smoke bombs and popping a balloon, but I wanted something a little unique to represent a potential activity that we’ll eventually be doing with our little one. We live by the beach and I see many families take their kids to fly kites and enjoy the sun during the warm Summer months. One day soon, I hope we’d be doing the same too.
And in terms of this bubble gum shot, I just wanted something fun! Because this journey is a roller coaster and why not inject bit of fun while we await for his precious arrival. Let’s just say this shot took MUCH longer than I had thought, I don’t recall blowing a bubble gum bubble required skills!!
With Spring just around the corner, I partnered with Joe Fresh to bring their “Free Your Fresh” Campaign to life by trying something fun and new to welcome this new season. I gathered up a couple of my besties and spent the morning sharpening our cake decorating skills at Velvet Lane Cakes located in Toronto.
We enjoyed delicious cups of lattes while mixing up colourful pastel icing and learning how to pipe different flowers and designs. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this morning with my gals! It’s so refreshing to pick up a new skill surrounded by a beautiful setting, delicious sweets, and people I love!
If you’re interesting in learning some cake decorating basics, I highly recommend gathering up your troops a sharing a cost to a private group class which is what we did, or equally, the lovely Danielle at Velvet Lane Cakes also runs public workshops which you can sign up for. I’m a terrible baker, so I’m glad all the cakes were pre-baked and all I had to focus on was flexing my rosette piping muscles!
The three of us all used the rosette as our main feature, but each of us took a slightly different spin! I love how similar but yet how different all three turned out!
Spring time always gets me in the mood to welcome a new wardrobe. And with my growing baby bump, I DEFINITELY need some new clothes! I love the entire Spring collection released at Joe Fresh, so many versatile and comfortable pieces which can be mixed and matched to suit your needs.
Admittedly, I’m not the most adventurous when it comes to eye makeup looks. I’ve always found it difficult to work with my monolids and to be frank, my lids (just like the rest of my T-zone) which are also on the oilier side causing eye shadows to slip and rub off. But I must say, over the last several years, I’ve had the opportunity to sample so many great makeup products and this has certainly encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone (one baby step at a time with neutral and matte tones for the eyes).
With spring just around the corner, the pops of pastels and bright colours appearing in store have really inspired me to go one more step further, venturing into the world of shimmery beauty looks with the newest array of Glitter Effects Eye Shadows from Quo Cosmetics.
This mini collection of shadows comes in three different colour variations – Vega, Impulse and Renegade ($10). They are in the form of super lightweight, loose glitter particles that can easily add a gentle touch of glam to an existing daytime look or intensify an already dramatic nighttime style.
For a more natural finish, I use my fingertips to dab a small amount over my lids as well as under my brow arches just for that subtle hint of shimmer. When feeling a bit more glamorous, I wet a small shadow brush to continuously blend and build over top of an existing shadow look. Pro tip: the wet brush will provide a long-lasting effect.
And to help combat my-so-called eye makeup problems mentioned earlier, the Quo Eye Primer ($14), which has a great lightweight texture, is my recommended prep step for the lids before eye shadow application to ensure a crease free look and extra staying power. While the creamy, easy to glide on Quo Waterproof Eyeliner in black ($12) is just the ideal product to create the illusion of extra depth and a wide-eyed look.
I just love the versatility of these little glitter gems. They can also be applied over the apples of your cheeks for that envious natural looking glow or a dab across the collarbone for a playful yet sexy shimmering detail during the warmer summer nights. Trust me, a little goes a long way!
How do you like my spring-ready makeup style?
All products showcased in this post are now available in-stores for a limited-time as part of a seasonal launch. I urge you to swing by your nearest Shoppers Drug Mart to snatch up a few Glitter Effects Shadows and add prep and finishing touches with the primer and liner too!

I always manage to catch a flu or cold at the tail end of the year and it takes me a solid couple of weeks to recover. It’s honestly dreadful and I’m so glad I’ve finally bounced back! Catching a cold or flu during the winter months is inevitable and while you take the time to mend your health on the inside, what about recovering on the outside?
Yes, I’m referring to your skin! Did you know while enduring a cold your skin also suffers?! The skin around your nose, eyes, and mouth are hyper sensitive and often irritated, red, and chapped from all the sneezing, coughing, and rubbing. So why not give your skin some extra TLC when you start to feel human-like again?
My secret weapon is the AVEENO® Positively Radiant line of products. This collection is uniquely formulated to target tone, texture, dullness, blotchiness, and brown spots leaving your skin looking fresh, awake and luminous! I find the products very rejuvenating, which is the perfect skincare remedy after a cold.
There are two products in this line that I swear by for the face. The first is the 60 Second In-Shower Facial and the second is the Overnight Hydrating Facial. I LOVE the 60 Second In-Shower Facial because you can literally leave it in the shower and scrub onto your face while you’re washing your hair or body. No added time and no added mess while you achieve a facial-like experience all from the privacy of your own shower! This product is fabulous for after-cold care because it can gently exfoliate the dead skin away from around your nose, which is where I generally find the most damage.
In terms of the Overnight Hydrating Facial, it is designed so that you can benefit from it while you’re asleep. This product is applied and left on overnight to restore moisture and hydration, which is exactly what you will need after being sick for days or weeks. Your skin (and your body in general) often loses a lot of moisture during or after a cold, therefore this overnight treatment is a great choice for deep hydration.
Your skin can also become easily irritated by makeup and strong skincare products when it’s red and chapped. During this time consider using a mild cleansing wipe such AVEENO® Positively Radiant Make-up Removing Wipes. These wipes can gently remove all traces of make-up including waterproof mascara but are also ultra-soft and infused with moisture-rich soy extract that is formulated to improve radiance. They are great to store in your bathroom or take on the go in your purse as well!
When it comes to daily moisturizing, there are two great options, one for the face and one for the body. The all new Positively Radiant Body Lotion is what I use on the daily, recovering from a cold or not! It is creamy in texture yet fast absorbing and treats dullness and dryness for 24 hours, which means no need to reapply throughout the day. If you’ve not yet gotten into the habit of moisturizing your body daily, do it! I can’t stress how important it is to keep skin hydrated especially through the winter months. Trust me your skin will THANK you. In terms of application, the best time to lather up is just after a warm shower. Your pores are slightly open and your skin is clean and dewy, which can maximize absorption.
If you’re keen on introducing a face moisturizer while en route to recovery, the Sheer Daily Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is a feather light weight option that can help even out skin tone and texture while offering hydration and UV protection. My experience with products containing SPF is that it may differ on skin types. With that being said, it’s always good practice to try a small dab on a test area before applying over the full region.
In my opinion, spending some much needed self-care time AFTER a brutal cold is honestly great for the body, mind and soul! I definitely encourage you to find a day to relax, give your skin a great deep hydrating session and heal while you sleep with an overnight skincare option!
I also want to thank you for stopping by and following my journey as a proud AVEENO® Ambassador! Looking forward to introducing more wonderful product launches with you in the future! Lastly, hope ALL of you stay warm and healthy through the rest of this wet and cold season! I know I can’t wait until the warmth and sunshine arrive again!
Hello friends! Wow, it’s been nearly a month since I’ve published a blog post, it’s the LONGEST hiatus I’ve ever taken in the history of my blogging journey. I took a much needed break because I was battling a bad cold for three weeks and I’m so thrilled that I’m finally back up and running!
In between my coughs and sneezes, I did however manage to work on a super fun project with the orvda in transforming a plain, simple RV into a home away from home! This was just the perfect project to kick off 2019 as I am looking forward to bringing you all more home and decor content this year.
So without further adieu, here are the images to the before, after, and inspiration behind this fun adventure on wheels!
RVs are definitely becoming a trending travel option for any generation. It offers convenience and plenty of options at differing price points. For this particular one that I was charged to transform, it runs roughly $20,000 CAD with limited annual maintenance cost. I really liked the layout of this RV, it was compact but had plenty of space – including a full double bed, two single bunks, a bathroom with shower, dining area, and a kitchenette equipped with an almost full size fridge. It’s honestly everything you need to comfortably take your adventures on the go.
Admittedly, in my opinion, as perfectly laid out this RV was, and like many other RVs I’ve seen on the market, it definitely needed a bit of TLC to make it that much more special.
The inspiration behind the decor of this RV was “Happy Relaxed Bohemian”.
Imagine a cozy home away from home where a family can take their adventures anywhere they want, create precious memories without sacrificing comfort or style. This easy and approachable RV transformation is inspired by the relaxed and happy vibes of retro bohemian style but modernized and simplified.
It’s all about comfort. A large bedding area filled with plushy cushions and feathering duvet for mom and dad to relax after a long day of driving and the kids will equally enjoy a nap in their own private bunk bed quarters. Décor elements include crochet, rattan, and linen details as well as neutral and soft colours that is appealing to majority of the crowd.
I found so many amazing RV interiors during my research on Pinterest, it really solidified what a little bit of effort (and perhaps a fresh coat of paint which I wasn’t able do), can do! Can you imagine integrating a few minor renovations? Possibilities are endless!
Here is my own rendition of “Happy Relaxed Bohemian”! If it was up to me, I totally would have put a fresh coat of light paint on the cabinets, however since the ORVDA was graciously drawing this RV as a contest prize at the Toronto RV Show that took place a couple of weeks ago, we really wanted to keep the original finishing intact. With that being said, Command products are SO great for temporary options – such as hanging frames and garlands. They are a lifesaver without making any permanent changes.
I was so thrilled to find bohemian inspired macrame decorations via Amazon.ca and the fringed hanging over the window is definitely one of the best options to give the dining area an uplift without worrying about sewing custom drapery for the RV.
I also used a variety of baskets in different texture primarily for storage options but they also add such a great decor element to the space.
When it came to the bedding area, I decided to reconfigure to a day bed format, so that I can both be enjoyed for sleeping and lounging. Loads of plushy cushions make it extra comfortable and I encourage you to switch our cushion covers ever so often. It’s is the best and most inexpensive way to update a space!
I had a little bit of extra fun with the bunk bed space designed perfectly for kids by adding fun star decals to the walls that can easily be removed!
I hope you guys liked what I did to the space and I am absolutely going to be giving RV-ing a try in the near future! Stopping and going whenever we want and touring this beautiful province of Ontario in comfort (and style) sounds just like the perfect Summer time getaway!

Ever since becoming an AVEENO® Ambassador, I’ve had the privilege to try so many fabulous products. From face care to body care products, there are an array of choices perfect for everyday use or to combat and treat specific skin concerns. Seeing that Christmas is literally around the corner (can’t believe we’re only a few more days away!), how great would it be to curate customized DIY beauty gift baskets packed with AVEENO® products for the special ladies in my life?
First on the list is of course Mom, and the AVEENO® Absolutely Ageless line couldn’t be any more perfect for her!
My mom is always keen on trying anti-aging skincare products. She pays close attention to the changing conditions of her skin as she ages and I’ve certainly taking notes from her over the years. She’s never been one to invest in ultra-luxurious brands. She much prefers affordability and high-efficacy over high price tags and fancy beauty boutiques.
For her special holiday gift basket, I picked the AVEENO® Absolutely Ageless collection because it helps to reduce the visible effects of aging including elastin and collagen loss and also nourish skin, to keep it looking younger, longer. This line is formulated with the Blackberry Complex, exclusively created by AVEENO® using antioxidant rich blackberries, vitamins, and other anti-aging ingredients. Sounds pretty good to me!
Once you’ve added most of the major, themed elements, proceed to integrate a few extra thoughtful goodies just to top things off! In my case, I thought Mom would appreciate a few fun beauty accessories which I know she would never treat herself to – a pink quartz facial roller, a glittery gel eye mask and a retro velvet hair scrunchie.
When it comes to packaging it, make sure you give yourself a few different options for the basket itself. Since I create plenty of DIY baskets throughout the year, whether it be Christmas or birthdays, I love collecting empty baskets and vessels throughout the year. They come in so handy! For this one, I found a small wooden box, which is just the perfect size for what I needed and dressed it up with a wide linen bow. There are so many unique ways to package a gift basket, so I urge you to be creative and think outside the box – sometimes the least expected item can become the best ‘container!’.
Who are you still shopping for? If you’re running out of ideas, give this DIY easy peasy AVEENO® gift basket a try!
