In support of the government’s call for responsible and sustainable tourism, Globe Telecom joined the week-long celebration of Boracay’s rehabilitation aimed at encouraging residents, tourists, and other stakeholders to be more environmentally conscious.

Almost 300 participants from the Globe Store in Boracay, Boracay Foundation Inc., Boracay Inter- agency task force, Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, Team Boracay Cyclist, Philippine National Police, Malay Solid Waste, and Asean Centre for Biodiversity worked together to ensure that the country’s favorite summer getaway retains its pristine condition.  The team gathered 32 bags of plastic waste and trash scattered along the popular White Beach where local and foreign tourists often converge.

The Globe team gathers several plastic bags full trash during the Boracay beach clean up

At the same time, Globe put up an Eco Booth in D’mall where anyone can exchange their plastic bags with eco bags to encourage a more sustainable practice.

“Boracay has always been very close to the hearts of every Filipino. Recently, it became the center of everyone’s attention. As Filipino Citizens, it is our responsibility to help out and contribute in our shared purpose to rehabilitate Boracay. Beyond business, we will help make the island a safe and sustainable ecotourism destination through replicable and scalable solutions,” said Globe Senior Vice President for Consumer Mobile Business, Issa Guevarra-Cabreira.

Six months prior to Love Boracay, Globe, in partnership with Manila Water Foundation, has initiated several sustainable long term rehabilitation activities for Boracay such as the construction of a communal septic tank in Sitio Ilaya, Barangay Balabag and the provision of two months worth of Virgomin organic water treatment for septic tanks to all 4,000 households.

These efforts were aimed to ensure that locals, especially the low income households, are presented with options on how to contribute to the rehabilitation of the island through proper septage containment and management.

Alongside the sanitation projects, Globe, together with Save Philippine Seas, has conducted a three-day workshop on Marine Biodiversity attended by local business owners, students and teachers. The workshop focused on ways to protect marine life by adopting sustainable approaches to business operations such as reducing the use of single-use plastic.

Since 2012, Globe has been actively helping Boracay with its environmental initiatives such as marine life protection, offshore clean-up training, coral reef planting, support for conservation efforts by local stakeholders, and raising environmental awareness among the youth and local residents.

It’s been almost 6 months hibernating in my blog. And within that span of time, too many realizations, decisions and changes took place.

Life is a matter of weighing the greater value and that is no contradiction with principles and values. Family plays the biggest role as they are my source of everything. I gather strength from them and inspiration when my self-esteem is going 6 feet under.

If you happen to know me personally, I am fun to be with, comedian maybe, and problems with depression doesn’t show as I am a normal average person in life. I was able to cope up with this struggle as the darkness began to swallow me up, faith really keeps me strong. Those darkness are monsters of life, they gather negativity and surround me with loneliness, and made my days troublesome. But, I stand firm, I fought with a good fight.

As I start with my journey as a newly reborn person, I will be sharing more often about life in deep perception. I am on my way to my 40’s and maybe this is reason why I am putting this on writing.
Writing helps me a lot and this month of May is full of changes and adjustments for me totally. But this made me more in a higher level of maturity.

And I am thankful enough that I also gathered my friends, (the real ones!) in a handy pocket. They helped me lift up the heavy burdens through words, and nevertheless the greatest of all, the man who plants trees and makes them grow. Without him everything is impossible.

To a fruitful blogging!!!!

As pediculosis capitis or head lice infestation continues to be a concern in public schools in the Philippines, Lamoiyan Corporation’s Licealiz has led the nationwide rollout of Kilusang Kontra Kuto or KKK.
As a part of the mission to create a kuto -free Philippines, Kilusang Kontra Kuto, a coalition of head lice prevention experts and advocates led by Lamoiyan Corporation’s Licealiz, the Department of Education or DepEd, UP Manila College of Public Health, Mommy Bloggers Philippines, and Drugstores Association of the Philippines, was created. Now on its third year, they want to make its impact bigger and its reach wider in order to eliminate kuto by educating the public about the problem. They will be visiting different schools in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
According to a study conducted by the Department of Education (DepEd) and the University of the Philippines, head lice infestation is still considered as the second most common health problem in public schools in the Philippines next to tooth decay. While it may not be a fatal condition, attention must still be given to this persistent condition which commonly found in school children.
Here are some problems that head lice can cause if left untreated:

It can cause other serious infections.
The surface of our skin is filled with different kinds of bacteria. According to Dr. Arlene Bertuso from University of the Philippines Manila College of Public Health, while lice itself can’t cause infections, “severe scratching caused by allergic reactions to the insects’ saliva can cause the scalp to break, therefore increasing the chance of a secondary bacterial infection.”
It can decrease self-confidence in a child and the parents.
Head lice or kuto often has a negative connotation due to its association with poor hygiene and low social status, which can cause a child to lose confidence, especially around his or her peers. However, the child isn’t the only one affected as the parents can also experience loss of confidence. Parents whose child has been infected with head lice feel embarrassed since they feel like they exhibited poor parenting by letting their child get head lice infestation.

It decreases academic or work productivity.
Itchiness and inflammation are effects from the bites of head lice. The irritation caused by the bites of the head lice can disrupt concentration in school or at work, hence affecting productivity. It can also cause loss of sleep, which can then lead to irritability, short attention span and lack of focus. In addition to that, “it dramatically affects the school performance of children because of the discomfort and social stigma it causes,” as stated in the study by DepEd and the University of the Philippines.
Misinformation can cause more damage.
Myths and superstitions are already ingrained in Filipino culture and society. Kuto is surrounded by several of these myths and misconceptions that can be harmful to the infested such as the use of mayonnaise or kerosene and wrapping the child’s head with plastic overnight. Contrary to popular belief, lice can also be acquired at any age and by any gender. Incorrect information like these can lead to untreated head lice, which can spread quickly to the whole family or to the whole class simply through physical contact with one infested person.
Head lice is often overlooked or disregarded despite its many negative impacts, but this problem can be solved with correct information and appropriate control methods. Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo is an effective solution to eliminate and prevent head lice.

There are many legal matters involved in setting up a company, even for a small company. If you are thinking of setting up a small company as a sole proprietorship, you will have to find out in details the things needed before you rush into it. Be patient to take everything step by step. There are some of the things you will need to know and the necessary steps to take before you can set up your sole proprietorship.

If you live in Wisconsin, you can set up a sole proprietorship in Wisconsin without having to file any legal documents with the state government of Wisconsin.

Here are some simple steps you will need to take:

Choose a name for your company. If you are a sole proprietor, you may use your own name if you wish.

If you want to use a trade name, that name should not be used by any other currently listed registered company. It will be better to choose a name that is unique from other registered name.

If you need help you can do database on the website of Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions to see if your chosen name is available. If you have decided to use a trade name, you are required to fill out a form to register your company’s name and you will have to pay a filing fee.

Check with the Wisconsin Licensing, Permit and Registration Service the type of businesses licenses you will have to obtain that may apply to your business, depending on your business activities.

Next, if you intend to employ someone to work for you, you will need to apply an Employer Identification Number or EIN number Wisconsin with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for tax reporting purposes. You will need this tax id number to report your employee’s wages to the IRS.

Application of EIN or your sole proprietorship TIN can be done online at the IRS website.

If you are a sole proprietor and do not have any employee, then you are not required to obtain an EIN or the Federal tax id number. You can use your own Social Security number (SSN) to report taxes. But if you like, you can apply for an EIN for your business because you may be required by the bank when you need to open a bank account for your business.

The Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) and the National Telecommunications Communication (NTC) are helping each other in fighting the expected surge of   illegal broadcast stations across the country in view of the coming midterm elections.

“This is year 2018 and there’s usually a proliferation of illegal broadcast stations leading to election day in May next year,” said Erwin V. Galang, head of the technical committee and trustee of the KBP.

Majority of the administrative cases the NTC handles under its mandate are cease and desist and show cause orders against illegal broadcast stations, and according to Deputy Commissioner Edgardo Cabarios, the NTC’s previous cooperation and coordination with the KBP has led to the crackdown of fly-by-night broadcast stations, mostly in the provinces, who had victimized unsuspecting candidates to buy airtime for their political advertisements. These illegal broadcasters usually disappear after they received payment for the political ads.

“Historically, we can see a steep increase in the number of cases in broadcast services in relation to unlicensed broadcasts leading to the election campaign period. What we do is we immediately issue cease-and-desist and show-cause orders against these illegal operators, forcing them to shut down their stations, while others simply disappear,” Cabarios said.

In the 2017 report by the Commission on Audit (COA, majority of the cases were administrative complaints initiated by NTC for violations of erring  radio stations with almost 2,054 cases in the broadcast services division.

According to Auditor Ma. Jocelyn Factora, COA’s 2017 resident auditor in the NTC, majority of the pending administrative cases represented cases filed by NTC against illegal broadcast stations, and not cases from telco consumers. “The pending telco-related cases from consumers are very minimal.”

As of 31 December 2017, there are only 148 telco consumer cases pending before the NTC’s Legal Office which are now subject of review and resolution.
