Sleep Training 2 Year Old Kids: Helpful Methods and How this Journey grew my Faith
I share tips and my experience of sleep training a 2 year old: my Daughter Maeleth Sarah Goh.

In this post, I will be sharing about my journey of sleep training my two year old (24 months old) daughter Maeleth Sarah Goh: the methods that have worked well and also how it has been a journey of faith for me.

Getting Mae to fall asleep and to sleep through the night has always been a struggle for us so far. But I feel that the sleep training progress so far is very encouraging - I see light at the end of the tunnel.

Yesterday, it only took Mae 30 mins to fall asleep and night. I was so happy!

By sleep training, I mean having Mae fall asleep on her bed on her own without patting her to sleep or carrying her until she sleeps.
Throughout the whole process, I am by her side until she falls asleep.

Before Sleep Training

Before we decided to start sleep training with Mae, I used to rock her to sleep every night in the baby carrier.

But ever since she grew to about 11kg, rocking her for 1 hour every afternoon and every night became very strainous on my shoulders and back - I was aching and uncomfortable everyday.
Sometimes I even had to run around the house while wrapping Mae in the baby carrier for her to calm down and fall asleep.

When Mae turned 2 earlier this month (on Feb 6), we decided to begin with sleep training. We had no idea how to do it right in the beginning.

The ‘Cry it Out’ Method does not work

Sleep Training for 2 Year Old: Helpful Methods and My Personal Faith Journey
Mae is a smart girl. She comes up with all sorts of excuses to try to leave her bedroom - she still does.

”Where’s Ma? Ma! Ma!!!” Then she starts to force a cry and tries to leave the room to look for Amilee (my wife).

Initially I had a wrong belief: I thought that by letting her continue to cry it out, it would be effective to get her to sleep because all the crying would take a lot of energy out of her.

After letting her cry herself to sleep for a few times, she had a lot of air trapped in her body which she had swallowed while crying.
This caused her to have difficulty sleeping as she was bloated in her tummy from all the trapped air. We had to massage her tummy with Vick's Baby Balsam to give her relief from the discomfort.

Then another terrible thing happened: While on the way to church service at Marina Bay Sands, I was feeding Mae her porridge in the car as it was her lunch time. The night before, she had cried herself to sleep and had air trapped in her tummy again.
Halfway through the feed, she suddenly burped really loudly, and vomited out all her food, the milk from earlier in the morning, as well as stomach juices of course - I guess the devil had a fun time that day, and i'm sure he didn't like that we were on the way for church!

Her clothes, car seat and herself were all drenched in puke. What a disaster it was! Amilee freaked out and was screaming in anger at random passersby because she didn't know how to deal with the emotions caused by this setback.
On top of that, we had to buy a new set of clothes for Mae which cost a whopping SG$104 (that was after 50% discount) because all the kids apparel stores at that mall were luxury brands.
The worst part of all was having to clean the smelly, stained car seat. Amilee had to do it all while I looked after Mae. Thanks and sorry my love!

I really learnt a severe lesson that day: The "Cry it Out" Method for sleep training is just a recipe for disaster. In the short term it may seem effective for them to fall asleep quickly, but it holds terrible consequences later on.

Gentle Sleep Training begins

Seeing that the "Cry it Out" Method failed horribly, I learned to have patience when it came to sleep training for Mae.
I told myself, "Even if it takes 2 hours to get her to sleep, I am mentally prepared for it."

Well, initially that did happen with the 'Gentle' Sleep Training method. After 2 hours which passed so slowly in that dark bedroom, Mae finally went to sleep. It took so long because I made some mistakes:

1) When Mae talked to me or asked me to sing "Johnny Johnny Yes Papa" and other songs with her, I would go along with her wishes.
I thought that by satisfying her demands, she would go to sleep immediately after. But I was wrong. The more I gave in to her demands, the more requests she had!

2) The room was not fully pitch-dark because the kitchen light was left on and it seeped into Mae's bedroom which is nearby. The light distracted Mae and prevented her from feeling relaxed.

3) Mae napped too long in the afternoons: We would let her nap as long as she wanted until she woke up on her own. That was a mistake because the longer she naps, the longer it takes for her to fall asleep at night, leading to later sleep time.

 4) After noticing Mae yawn or rub her eyes in sleepiness, we did not put her to bed within an hour, thereby missing what I call the "Golden Hour" for sleeping.

I learned from my mistakes by trial and error as well as listened to good advice from fellow parents, and eventually Mae could sleep within 30 mins - 1 hour of being put to bed!

Tips for Sleep Training a 2 year old

Now I am by no means a sleep training expert, but I can share with you what has helped me in my sleep training journey for 2 year old Mae.

1) When your little one tries to talk or play with you, don't say a word.
Sometimes he or she has legitimate requests like "I want to drink water". Just fulfil the request promptly without replying in words. I always prepare a cup of drinking water in Mae's bedroom so that I can quickly feed her water without having to leave the room.

2) If your child is like Mae who has no fear of the dark, make sure that the bed room is in complete darkness to ensure that he or she can fully relax and easily drift off to sleep with no distractions from outside.

3) Limit nap time in the afternoon - I only let Mae nap for 1 hour now in the afternoons. Wake him or her up gently and gradually.
We like to do this by playing her favorite cartoon's theme song at a moderate volume. She quickly sits up and pays attention when hearing it - it's so adorable!

 4) When you notice signs of sleepiness in your child like yawning, rubbing eyes, or he or she tells you "so sleepy" like Mae does, make it a top priority to put him or her to bed within that hour. Do it within the "Golden Hour".

5) Diffusing essential oils which promote sleep in the bedroom can be helpful too. We like to diffuse lavender in Mae's bedroom, hoping that it helps her to sleep faster and to sleep through the night.

6) If the sleep training drags on for a long period of time like 2 hours, don't worry. If you're a believer in Jesus Christ who can pray in tongues, do that.
I spend the time waiting for her to sleep by praying in tongues quietly. I also choose a Bible verse and meditate on it.
That is one way to have some quiet time with God while sleep training your 2 year old at the same time.
If you are not a believer, you can always use the time to brainstorm for new ideas or plans.

7) If you're a Christian, pray with your child before putting him or her to bed. I pray with Mae every day before her bedtime. I lead the prayer, and she repeats this after me:
"Lord Jesus, thank you for the day. Please help me to sleep well in Jesus' name, Amen!" It's a simple prayer and I believe that God will honor the childlike faith and help your little one to sleep easily and well.

How this sleep training journey grew my faith

Once I stopped trying ways and means to get to fall asleep faster such as by patting her back or butt, carrying her back to a predetermined spot on the bed, etc, I was able to relax and let God take over.
I learnt to stop depending on my self-efforts and to instead rely on His love and grace for Mae and me. He loves us, and is more than willing to help us in our daily life, even in mundane activities like sleep training.

I also learnt to be more patient, instead of trying to force the process to be sped up for my own convenience.
When you choose to rely on Grace, sometimes the fruits take a longer time to manifest, however they will be perfect and sustainable when they come to fruition.

I am also praying in tongues more and spending more time meditating on God's word. The average time of 1 hour taken for Mae to fall asleep on her own gives me a special time with God, to have fellowship with Him in the quiet of the bedroom.
I love that it's like our own daily time together and who know what i'm prophesying for my own future and for others when I'm praying in tongues. I guess only our good God knows.

18 February 2018 - God Still Loves Me Even When I Fail - Pastor Mark Ng Chinese New Year Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon Notes

Chinese New Year is like a picture of grace (undeserved favor) - as a child whose family celebrates Chinese New Year, one wakes up with red envelopes that contain money, has yummy goodies to eat, and only words of blessings are spoken that day.

Isaiah 11:8 - In the Millennium when Jesus returns to rule on earth, it will be a beautiful world.
Little children will even play safely near once-dangerous animals.
In the Millennium, people who die at the age of 100 are considered to have died young.
Chinese New Year is like a mini-Millennium experience in the family for 15 days.

“The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole, And the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den.” (Isaiah 11:8 NKJV)

Grace is not what we can do for God - it’s about what God can do for you.

Chinese New Year is also known as the Spring Festival:
春 (spring) = 三 (three: the Triune God) + 人 (man: Jesus became a man) + 日 (day: the day where Jesus died for us is the day of salvation)
Jesus knew the state we were in and He came to do a thoroughly “spring cleaning” for us.

Romans 5:9 - The auspicious color of Chinese New Year is red. Red like the blood of Jesus which has cleansed us from our sins.

“Therefore, since we have now been justified [declared free of the guilt of sin] by His blood, [how much more certain is it that] we will be saved from the wrath of God through Him.” (ROMANS 5:9 AMP)

Pastor Mark Ng taught us in this powerful Chinese New Year sermon that God still loves us just the same even when we fail and that we can continue to receive His goodness and blessings. We need to be established in the truth that we are the righteousness of God in Christ! Image Credits: www.newcreation.org.sg

God's love never changes - Even at your worst, He still loves you.

Revelation 19:8 - Jesus washed and wiped His disciples feet with linen to thoroughly cleanse them.
Righteousness is a gift, it’s not about what we can do.

“And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.” (Revelation 19:8 NKJV)

James 1:17 - God never changes even when you are in your worst state.
The way God loves us is not like the way we love people. Our love fluctuates, like the changing moon in the sky.
However God’s love for us is constant and everlasting.

“Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of lights [the Creator and Sustainer of the heavens], in whom there is no variation [no rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [for He is perfect and never changes].” (JAMES 1:17 AMP)

When you know God’s heart, you will do great exploits.

When you look at the cross, you will know that God loves you.

You will know the truth and it will set you free.
Jesus has already finished the work, but you must know it in order to receive the benefits of it in your life.

Matthew 5:45 - If God can give good things to the evil and to the unjust, how much more will He bless us believers even when we make mistakes?

“that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” (Matthew 5:45 NKJV)

Luke 6:35 - Our God is so good - He is even kind to the unthankful and evil.

“But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil.” (Luke 6:35 NKJV)

Mark 2:16-17 - Jesus came to save the scum of the earth. Only though who THINK that they are righteous cannot be saved by Him.
If you feel unworthy and undeserving of blessings, then Jesus wants to be your Savior.
Only God can make a loser become a winner. He is for the last, lost and least of the world.

“But when the teachers of religious law who were Pharisees saw him eating with tax collectors and other sinners, they asked his disciples, “Why does he eat with such scum? ” When Jesus heard this, he told them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”” (Mark 2:16-17 NLT)

Jesus ate with the worst of the worst in Jericho - Zacchaeus. He did this to tell you that when you feel the most undeserving, Jesus is still there for you.

God does not confiscate or withdraw the blessings that He gives to us. We are always accepted in the Beloved (Jesus).

It is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance, not the Law.
Example: A prisoner can be in and out of prison multiple times due to repeat offences, but when one day he sees his aged mother still coming to visit him in prison and not giving up on him, his heart will be changed and he will turn over a new leaf.

Luke 7:45-47 - Worship is kissing God. Why aren’t we worshipping Him much? It’s because we don’t know that we are forgiven much.
The woman anointed Jesus with the expensive perfume - she exchanged her body for it (for she was a prostitute) - she was pouring out her whole life on Jesus.
She loved Him much because she knew that she was forgiven much.

“You didn’t greet me with a kiss, but from the time I first came in, she has not stopped kissing my feet. You neglected the courtesy of olive oil to anoint my head, but she has anointed my feet with rare perfume. “I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.”” (Luke 7:45-47 NLT)

John 14:23 - If we truly love Jesus, we will live right as a fruit, not as a work.

“Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.” (John 14:23 NLT)

II Corinthians 5:21 - Sin does not separate us from God because Jesus has paid for all our sins. Good things happen to those who believe that God loves them.

“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (II Corinthians 5:21 NKJV)

Genesis 3:21 - This is the first mention of clothing.
Adam sinned big time but God still clothed him.
God was probably crying when He clothed Adam because it cost Him dearly - He had to pay for the clothing (and eventually salvation of mankind) with the life of His Son Jesus.

“Also for Adam and his wife the LORD God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.” (Genesis 3:21 NKJV)

Galatians 3:26-27 - How do we show that we appreciate God’s gift to us? Every time we fail, declare that “Father, I thank you that I am still the righteousness of God in Christ”.

“For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes.” (Galatians 3:26-27 NLT)

I John 2:1 - Jesus is your Advocate (lawyer) defending you in the court of God. Even when you fail, He is still on your side.

“My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” (I John 2:1 NKJV)

Pastor Prince shared with Pastor Mark recently: Holiness is to speak like how God speaks and think like how God thinks.

The secret of Pastor Joseph Prince’s success is meditation.
This is Pastor Prince's heart: He loves the word of God. He loves worship. He loves the local church. He insists on Excellence in what he does. He is Generous. He values Honesty and hates it when people lie.  Despite being on a world-stage, he is Humble and gives glory to God all the time.

We reign in life by receiving the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness.

Revelation is just 12 inches in distance: from the ear to the heart. Let the word of God you hear go into your heart.

Small steps go a long way: feed on God’s word in bite sizes each day. It will help you.

My Slain in the Spirit Experience and How this Phenomenon is Biblical - A Daily Devotional
Amilee and I attended the School of Evangelism course conducted by Christ for All Nations (CfAN) and Evangelist Reinhard Bonkke and we had our first slain in the Spirit experience!

Amilee and I's slain in the Spirit experience at School of Evangelism

I used to find this phenomenon of people being slain in the Spirit very weird and a little scary. I was also skeptical. "Were they faking it?", "Why must God make that person cry so loudly and spasm on the floor?" - these are real questions that went through my mind when I saw it happen for the first time.

Then one day, Amilee (back then my best friend and not yet my wife) and I attended "School of Evangelism" in Singapore, a four-day evangelistic course by Christ for All Nations (CfAN) led by Evangelist Reinhard Bonkke in October 2014.

In one of the segments of the course, Doctor Chauncey Crandall, a surgeon who was also a believer, taught about "The Miraculous in Christ" - I was blown away by his testimony about him raising a man from dead.
Towards the end of his session, he was led by the Holy Spirit to invite attendees of the course to head to the altar and he laid his hands on them.

While doing this, he was constantly praying in tongues and I still remember till this day the words that he spoke repeatedly in a calm manner: "Horaba Shente, Horaba Shente".

As he laid hands on people, one by one they fell to the ground as if they were knocked out unconscious - they were slain in the Spirit - and each person had different manifestations afterwards.

Some started to cry softly, some were wailing loudly, some were flushed in the face and looking peacefully as they lay on the ground, and some people were convulsing on the ground as if having a spasm.

Seeing all this happen, I was so excited! I thought to myself: I can finally see if this slain in the Spirit thing is real or not.
With faith and anticipation in my heart, I made my way to the front of the altar, and Doctor Chauncey laid his hand on my forehead as I closed my eyes and smiled like a fool.

What I experienced was like I was falling in slow motion to the ground as if invisible hands were supporting me from behind.
When my body finally reached the ground, I lay there experiencing a overwhelming sense of love and peace enveloping me - I knew I could get up at any time, but I didn't want to because it felt so great, so supernatural.

Amilee told me afterwards that I was the only one smiling and looking so excited to be slain the Spirit haha.

After that, I saw Amilee going up to the front for a touch of the miraculous as well and when Doctor Chauncey's hand touched her head, she stumbled a few steps backwards, looking as if she was very dizzy and was gently supported to lie down on the floor by a volunteer.

After the whole session ended, it was followed by a time of praise and worship. Halfway through the session, I felt led to place my right hand on Amilee's head - she was standing on my right.
Immediately, she stumbled again like when Doctor Chauncey placed his hand on her head. She was slain in the Spirit again.
I was so shocked that it could happen through me too. I realized that God can work His miraculous power through whichever believer he chose.

The Biblical explanation for the slain in the Spirit experience

As far as I know, I only found two occurrences in the Bible of someone having a slain in the Spirit experience and the two incidents are very similar. Let's take a look at the verses:

"As the appearance of the rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the surrounding radiance. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory and brilliance of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell face downward and I heard a voice of One speaking. Then He said to me, “Son of man, stand on your feet and I will speak to you.” Then as He spoke to me the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet; and I heard Him speaking to me." (Ezekiel 1:28-2:2 AMP)

"and in the midst of the lampstands I saw someone like the Son of Man, dressed in a robe reaching to His feet, and with a golden sash wrapped around His chest. His head and His hair were white like white wool, [glistening white] like snow; and His [all-seeing] eyes were [flashing] like a flame of fire [piercing into my being]. His feet were like burnished [white-hot] bronze, refined in a furnace, and His voice was [powerful] like the sound of many waters. In His right hand He held seven stars, and from His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword [of judgment]; and His face [reflecting His majesty and the Shekinah glory] was like the sun shining in [all] its power [at midday]. When I saw Him, I fell at His feet as though dead. And He placed His right hand on me and said, “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last [absolute Deity, the Son of God]," (Revelation 1:13-17 AMP)

Looking at the two incidents above, there are two big similarities in both:

1) Both prophet Ezekiel and apostle John saw the glory of the Lord.

2) Both of them fell to the ground and remained on the ground.

Prophet Ezekiel needed the Spirit to set him on his feet so he definitely didn't fall down in worship on purpose. It happened suddenly and unexpectedly to him.
Apostle John fell at Jesus' feet "as though dead" . Does a dead person fall down by choice? No, it's also involuntary.
Their experiences are consistent with what Amilee and I experienced when we were slain in the Spirit after Doctor Chauncey laid his hand on our heads.

So we can deduce that people are slain in the Spirit because their bodies are somehow overwhelmed by the glory of the Lord in a moment.
I am guessing that we are unable to remain standing before Him when His glory comes because of the sinful flesh  in our bodies.

I am reminded of these verses:
"If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?" (Psalm 130:3 NKV)

"since all have sinned and continually fall short of the glory of God," (Romans 3:23 AMP)

Truly, the slain in the Spirit experience reminds us that no one can remain standing and claim to be innocent by themselves because we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Only in Jesus do we have complete forgiveness of sins.

Special Prayer for this daily devotional:
Dear Heavenly Father, we pray that we never boast in ourselves because there is nothing but wretchedness in our own flesh.
Instead, help us to always rejoice and boast in Jesus because in Him there is total forgiveness of sins, righteousness and every blessing of God for us. In Jesus' name, Amen!"

11 February 2018 - Self-Condemnation is Accepting the Sentence of the Devil - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online

When pastors preach in services, they are dealing with lives.
Depression to the point of contemplating suicide is not just on those of the world but it is coming on believers as well.
Believers are supposed to be the happiest people in the world!
The devil doesn’t want us to be happy and he wants us to be bad advertisements for Jesus.

We don’t have to be afraid of the devil’s attacks because we have the most powerful weapon on our side (stronger than nuclear weapons): the blood of Jesus and the name of Jesus.

At the name of Jesus every knee bows - every cancer, long term ailment, chronic disease, curse - they all bow.

Now we have the power of attorney - we have the legal permission to act on behalf of a name - Jesus.

When a man cannot control himself, it’s most likely motivated by an evil spirit.
Medicine is not a cure, it only helps temporarily.
We need spiritual weapons - bind the evil spirits in Jesus’ name.

Ezekiel 28:13-19 - Cherubs were the highest intelligence before man came. The devil’s wisdom is now corrupted but he still has that intelligence.

“You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes Was prepared for you on the day you were created. “You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, Till iniquity was found in you. “By the abundance of your trading You became filled with violence within, And you sinned; Therefore I cast you as a profane thing Out of the mountain of God; And I destroyed you, O covering cherub, From the midst of the fiery stones. “Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor; I cast you to the ground, I laid you before kings, That they might gaze at you. “You defiled your sanctuaries By the multitude of your iniquities, By the iniquity of your trading; Therefore I brought fire from your midst; It devoured you, And I turned you to ashes upon the earth In the sight of all who saw you. All who knew you among the peoples are astonished at you; You have become a horror, And shall be no more forever.” ’ ” (Ezekiel 28:13-19 NKJV)

Psalm 89:14 - The devil wants to be the successor of God.
We are caught in the battle of the ages.
The devil knows that God’s throne is established by righteousness.
Any slight infringement of righteousness or justice by God will cause Him to lose His throne.
“Mercy and truth” in Hebrew is “Hesed ve emet” which means grace and truth.

“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Mercy and truth go before Your face.” (Psalms 89:14 NKJV)
Self-condemnation is accepting the sentence of the devil. So how do we resist the devil? By being strong in the truth that “I am the righteousness of God in Christ” and keep declaring it.

The Devil is a master lawyer who keeps accusing us - he wants you to accept the self-condemnation

The cherubs and the mercy seat on the Ark of the Covenant were made out of the same slab of gold - Mercy cannot be exercised at the expense of righteousness.
After Adam sinned, the two cherubs prevented Adam and Eve from returning to the Garden of Eden - they are custodians of God’s righteousness.

The devil riled the crowds up to shout “Crucify Him!” thinking that the cross would finish Jesus off once and for all - the devil didn’t know that it would be his own doom.

The punishment that was inflicted upon Jesus at the cross was not from the devil - it was from God.
Jesus took our place at the cross. Every vestige of sin was judged in Jesus’ body - none escaped.
God has already exacted the full penalty for sins upon Jesus.
It would be unrighteous to deny that we as believers are righteous today.

Pastor Prince noticed for more than 15 years that many divorced women who were married to emotionally abusive husbands come down with breast cancer or some disease that is terminal.
That doesn’t seem fair right? Shouldn’t the attacker be the one who suffers sickness and not the victims?
The devil doesn’t care about fairness - he would even attack a child. The devil hates you.

The devil saw that God loves man. So he tried to use God’s love for man to make God compromise on His righteousness.

It’s good that Adam fell. If Adam didn’t fall, he would just be in a garden. Now we are seated in heavenly places with Christ.
Jesus now wears a crown of redemption, not just a crown of creation. God gained much more from redemption than creation.

The devil’s work is always through people who are self-righteous.
The devil will always promote a form of Christianity that preaches about having to earn your own righteousness - He transforms himself into an angel of light.

Even when your wife is being strange and emotional sometimes, you have to be the one to take that nonsense.
You have to bite your lip and persevere through it. Don’t be emotional too - be a man. Being a boy is a matter of birth, but being a man is a matter of choice.

Galatians 3:23-25 - In the Bible, the definite article “the faith” refers to justification by faith.

“But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.” (Galatians 3:23-25 NKJV)

I Peter 5:8-9 - These verses are encouraging because it means that the devil cannot devour anyone at will.
“Adversary” here in Greek is “antidikos”means an opponent in a lawsuit.
Satan in Hebrew means “a prosecutor in a court scene”.
The devil is a master lawyer. He is a prosecutor.
Many of the things he accuses us with are real things that we have or have not done.
How do we resist the devil? By being strong in the truth that “I am the righteousness of God in Christ” and keep declaring it.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.” (I Peter 5:8-9 NKJV)

Revelation 12:10-11 - Why did Jesus sprinkle blood 7 times in a place in heaven?
It is because the devil used to stand in that place to accuse man.
That place belonged to Adam but was given to the devil when Adam sinned.
Declare the blood of Jesus on what's yours: The devil cannot touch whatever has the blood of Jesus on it - the devil is a lawyer and he knows that.

“Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” (Revelation 12:10-11 NKJV)

Why doesn’t God just destroy the devil now?
The devil has infected man with his sinfulness.
Sinners who have not received Jesus are identified with the devil.
Just like how God called Noah righteous and Noah and his family all went in safely into the ark - it is identification by the representative head of the family.
If God wipes out the devil now, all sinners will be wiped out too.

The devil is aiming higher - he is not just aiming to escape hell, he’s aiming to take God’s throne.

Hebrews 2:14-15 - If you’re afraid of death, you’re subject to bondage your whole life. All fears stem from the fear of death.
Example: You're not afraid of the doctor - you're afraid of a bad medical report that could mean you're dying.

“Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” (Hebrews 2:14-15 NKJV)

Deflect the sentence of the devil by declaring that you are the righteousness of God in Christ. He will flee from you!

Zechariah 3:1-3 - In the book of Ezra, it describes how Israel was building a temple for God and the enemies of Israel were writing accusatory letters to them and to the Persian king, insulting and denouncing the temple project.
As a result, the king stopped the building project for 15 years. It seemed like Israel’s favor stopped flowing with the king.
Joshua was the high priest which means he was the spiritual leader of Israel.
The word “oppose” in Hebrew is Satan. Satan means “to accuse”.
Even Joshua, the one who was in charge of the entire temple building project was discouraged.
The devil was pointing Joshua to his filthy garments.
Joshua was focused on that and that’s why God’s favor didn’t flow for Israel. Favor cannot flow when you are under accusation.
When you are under accusation, you are denying that Jesus has made you righteous and are accepting the sentence of the devil and have to accept the punishment that comes with that sentence.
After Joshua shook that off, the favor flowed with the king again.

“Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him. And the LORD said to Satan, “The LORD rebuke you, Satan! The LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?” Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the Angel.” (Zechariah 3:1-3 NKJV)

Romans 14:22-23 - The word “condemn” in Greek is “katakrino” which means absolute condemnation - it is a sentence, a punishment.
If you condemn yourself for eating, you’re accepting the devil’s sentence and the resulting punishment upon yourself: sickness, obesity, mental damage etc.
Feeling bad about it is not a trivial matter - the devil is not stupid.
Chinese New Year is coming: if you condemn yourself for eating the goodies, you will put on weight because your body’s molecules are very intelligent:
If you want to punish yourself, your body will tell itself to retain the food and put on weight.
We have a law in our heads that we cannot waste food because of negative programming from our parents: “Don’t waste food - think about those starving children in Ghana”.
Every time we don’t finish our food, we feel bad and want to punish ourselves. Even people in their 60s still have this wrong believing.
If you diet, your body will think that you’re starving and command itself to retain all the food you eat and convert it to fats to store as backup energy.
Don’t diet - eat without anxiety and be carefree.
Follow the Holy Spirit - eat when you’re hungry, stop eating when you’re full.

“Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not from faith is sin.” (Romans 14:22-23 NKJV)

Romans 8:34 - "Who is he who condemns?" is said as an emphatic challenge to those who would wrongly say that believers are still subject to condemnation.
The word “condemns” here is also katakrino.
This condemnation does not come from God. It is self-condemnation.
Jesus intercedes for us - He is not condemning us.
If you don’t see Jesus as your sin offering, you will make something else in your life as a sin offering.

“Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.” (Romans 8:34 NKJV)

Isaiah 54:17 - If there were accusatory or condemning words spoken about you, you must judge the accusation - Say: “I bind this accusation in Jesus’ name!”
Don’t condemn the person who said it, reject the words.

“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the LORD.” (Isaiah 54:17 NKJV)

If an accusation is false, then the penalty for the accusation will fall on the accuser.
Every time you declare “I am the righteousness of God in Christ”, Satan flees.
Why? Because if he doesn’t and continues to accuse you, he will have to accept the punishment for it.

God Help the Outcasts: How would God reply Esmeralda from Hunchback of Notre Dame - A Daily Devotional
God Help the Outcasts sung by Esmeralda in the Disney film "Hunchback of Notre Dame" is full of wrong believing about God. Hopefully this post can help to clear His name and show you that He is a loving God who is definitely a Defender of the weak and humble.

Disney movies don't talk about God very much. But when they do, He is portrayed in a negative light.
"God Help the Outcasts" sung by Esmeralda in the cathedral scene is a beautiful and touching masterpiece, except that it depicts God as Someone who is distant from man, stern and totally unapproachable. That couldn't be further from the truth.

The way Esmeralda almost begs God to have mercy on her people and the outcasts shows a false image of our kind, loving God who is a Defender of the lost, last and least. Let's take a look at the lyrics of "God Help the Outcasts":

[Esmeralda]
I don't know if you can hear me
Or if you're even there
I don't know if you would listen to a gypsy's prayer

Yes, I know I'm just an outcast
I shouldn't speak to you
But still I see your face and wonder
Were you once an outcast too?

God help the outcasts
Hungry from birth
Show them the mercy
They don't find on Earth
God help my people
We look to you still
God help the outcasts
Or nobody will

[Townspeople]
I ask for wealth
I ask for fame
I ask for glory to shine on my name
I ask for love I can possess
I ask for God and his angels to bless me

[Esmeralda]
I ask for nothing
I can get by
But I know so many
Less lucky than I

Please help my people
The poor and down-trod
I thought we all were children of God

God help the outcasts
Children of God
If you've never heard the song before, you can listen to  "God Help the Outcasts" in this Youtube video below:
God Help The Outcasts - YouTube

Analysis of God Help the Outcasts sung by Esmeralda in Hunchback of Notre Dame

These lyrics cast doubt on whether God even exists. He definitely exists and is very much alive - He was there since the beginning and will continue to live throughout eternity.

"I don't know if you can hear me
Or if you're even there"
Yes, I know I'm just an outcast
I shouldn't speak to you

God's possible reply to Esmeralda:

I hear the prayers of the righteous - people who believe in My Son Jesus.
My heart is for the outcasts of the earth. Look at how My Son Jesus treated them while He was on earth. He loved them, healed them and saved them.
Whatever Jesus does is My will revealed - He and I are One.
I love it when my righteous children speak to me. I desire to have close fellowship with them. The more they draw close to Me, the more I can bless them with life more abundant!

Supporting Verses:

"The Lord is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the [consistently] righteous (the upright, in right standing with Him)." (Proverbs 15:29 AMP)

"When He saw the crowds, He was moved with compassion and pity for them, because they were dispirited and distressed, like sheep without a shepherd." (Matthew 9:36 AMP)

"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones [to death] those [messengers] who are sent to her [by God]! How often I have wanted to gather your children together [around Me], just as a hen gathers her young under her wings, but you were not willing!" (Luke 13:34 AMP)

"So Jesus answered them by saying, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself [of His own accord], unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever things the Father does, the Son[in His turn] also does in the same way. For the Father dearly loves the Son and shows Him everything that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him greater works than these, so that you will be filled with wonder." (John 5:19-20 AMP)

"Therefore, believers, since we have confidence and full freedom to enter the Holy Place [the place where God dwells] by [means of] the blood of Jesus, by this new and living way which He initiated and opened for us through the veil [as in the Holy of Holies], that is, through His flesh," (Hebrew 10:19-20 AMP)

The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows]." (John 10:10 AMP)

These lyrics ask a question: Was Jesus an outcast while He was on earth? The answer is yes and no. No because He was really well-loved by the sinners of the world - tax collectors, prostitutes - basically the lowly people who know that they are sinful.
On the other hand, Yes because He was hated by the Pharisees, scribes and Sadducees - those who belong to the upper echelons of society back then and who were self-righteous, thinking that their outward religiosity made them holier than others.
They were extremely jealous of Jesus because all the people of Israel were marvelled by Jesus and loved Him so much that they sought Jesus out in multitudes.

But still I see your face and wonder
Were you once an outcast too?

God's possible reply to Esmeralda:

When My Son Jesus hung on the cross at Golgotha, that was when He was made a total outcast.
People who stood at the foot of the cross viewed Jesus as a worthless sinner. The self-righteous rulers of Israel were gloating over His suffering.
Even I had to turn My favor away from Him because He had to suffer the full punishment in His body for all the sins of the world.
It broke my heart to see Him suffer all that pain, but I am so pleased by the perfect work that He has done.
Now that Jesus has paid the full penalty for all the sins of the world, mankind are no longer outcasts and they can finally be reconciled to Me.

Supporting Verses:

"He was despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and pain and acquainted with grief; And like One from whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we did not appreciate His worth or esteem Him. But [in fact] He has borne our griefs, And He has carried our sorrows and pains; Yet we [ignorantly] assumed that He was stricken, Struck down by God and degraded and humiliated [by Him]. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was crushed for our wickedness [our sin, our injustice, our wrongdoing]; The punishment [required] for our well-being fell on Him, And by His stripes (wounds) we are healed."  (Isaiah 53:3-5 AMP)

"About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud [agonized] voice, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”" (Matthew 27:46 AMP)

Second Half of God Help the Outcasts

The verses below describe the mindset of a believer who sees God as a stern judge rather than the loving Father that He is.
Esmeralda's words reflect a believer who has a scarcity mindset, not knowing that God wants to bless His believers abundantly.
He has so much love that He wants to pour out upon us. As long as He has a righteous basis to do so, He will - a believer in Jesus Christ is qualified to receive all the blessings of God by His grace.

Also there is no such thing as "luck". I believe that luck is actually just leaving things to happen the way they would if you don't ask for God's help.
The devil wants us to believe in luck because that means that he has the freedom to attack you in your life and you will just say "It's because I have bad luck" - it is a mistake to not get God involved.

I ask for nothing
I can get by
But I know so many
Less lucky than I

God's possible reply to Esmeralda:

Esmeralda, ask Me for what you want and need. I want to be closely involved in your life, to bless and supply you. Ask for big things - I am Almighty God, nothing is impossible for those who believe in Me.
You don't have to rely on luck when you have My favor - All the blessings of God are found in My Son Jesus - seek Him and all these things will be added to you!

Supporting Verses:

"And my God will liberally supply ( fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19 AMP)

"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." (Matthew 6:33 AMP)

"For you are recognizing [more clearly] the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [His astonishing kindness, His generosity, His gracious favor], that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that by His poverty you might become rich (abundantly blessed)." (II Corinthians 8:9 AMP)

Finally, these verses reflect a wrong understanding of the term "children of God". Not everyone is a child of God.
People who don't believe in Jesus are called "children of the devil" and their father is the "Father of Lies", Satan himself.
Children of God are the ones who have received Jesus as their Lord and Savior - only then do they join God's royal family as a king and priest.
Children of God are no longer slaves to sin but are heirs of righteousness and grace.

Please help my people
The poor and down-trod
I thought we all were children of God

God's possible reply to Esmeralda:

Esmeralda, you are mistaken. Not everyone in the world is My child. Only those who have believed in My Son Jesus are My children.
The people who have not believed in Jesus have another father: the devil, and they listen to his voice.

Supporting Verses:

"See what an incredible quality of love the Father has shown to us, that we would [be permitted to] be named and called and counted the children of God! And so we are! For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him." (I John 3:1 AMP)

"In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother." (I John 3:10 AMP)

"You are doing the works of your [own]father.” They said to Him, “We are not illegitimate children; we have one [spiritual] Father: God.” Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father [but He is not], you would love and recognize Me, for I came from God [out of His very presence] and have arrived here. For I have not even come on My own initiative [as self-appointed], but He [is the One who] sent Me. Why do you misunderstand what I am saying? It is because [your spiritual ears are deaf and] you are unable to hear [the truth of] My word. You are of your father the devil, and it is your will to practice the desires [which are characteristic] of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks what is natural to him, for he is a liar and the father of lies and half-truths. But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me [and continue in your unbelief]. Which one of you [has proof and] convicts Me of sin? If I speak truth, why do you not believe Me? Whoever is of God and belongs to Him hears [the truth of] God’s words; for this reason you do not hear them: because you are not of God and you are not in fellowship with Him.”" (John 8:41-47 AMP)

4 February 2018 - The Fall of Lucifer and What Does Satan Want - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online

Jesus wants to be part of our daily lives. He daily loads us with His benefits.

If we fall into sin as believers, it’s not the end of the world, the forgiveness has been provided for by Jesus.

Preaching right believing cannot lead to wrong living. Preaching the truth cannot lead to living a lie.

Everything beautiful in nature reflects our Creator. Only someone beautiful can create beautiful things.
Even the adorable child you carry in your hands was created by Him. God must be cuter and more adorable.

Some people believe that the world was created by a Big Bang. Pastor Prince believes that yes, when God speaks there is a Big Bang.

Man did not evolve from a lower species. Everything in this world breaks down and degenerates.
If you leave a cup of hot coffee on the table, it will cool down.

Man cannot give life. Only God can. The magicians of Egypt under Pharaoh couldn’t reproduce what God did when He sent the plague of lice.
They had to admit that it was truly the finger of God.

Proverbs 16:12 - God’s throne is established by righteousness as well.
If God does something unrighteous, His throne would be shaken and the entire universe would collapse.

“It is an abomination for kings to commit wickedness, For a throne is established by righteousness.” (Proverbs 16:12 NKJV)

Proverbs 20:28 - The word “upholden” in Hebrew means supported by.
“Mercy and truth” in Hebrew is “hesed ve emet” which means grace and truth. God has to be righteous, but His heart is for true grace.

“Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.” (Proverbs 20:28 KJV)

What is Leprosy? You get cut off from your people. Lepers live isolated. It's like a life sentence. It's more than just a physical thing - it represents our sin.
Under the Law, if the leper touches another person, the other person would become unclean.
Under grace, when Jesus touched the leper, the leper became clean. The Law demands, grace supplies.

The cross is the answer to God's heart of grace: Righteousness says that if man sins, there must be death.
Because of the quality of the Man (Jesus) that died for us, there was a huge overpayment for our sin debt.
Where is the grace and love part of the cross?
It is that God didn’t want the punishment for our sins to be upon us. He chose to have it upon Jesus instead.

Adam bowed his knee to the outlaw spirit and gave the earth to the devil.
The devil hates us because we are made in God’s image.
The devil brought everything that’s the opposite of true pleasure into the earth.
Even if something sinful gives temporary pleasure, it will cause a more permanent pain after that.

God did not create carnivorous animals. When the lion was created, it did not originally eat meat.
When Adam fell, all Creation fell with him. This is the way God designed: a representative’s leadership would determine whether everyone in the family is blessed or cursed.
Your father was the representative head of your household when you were a child. Whether you like it or not, your destiny is wrapped up in the lives of your ancestors.

Romans 8:22 - After Adam fell, all Creation travails and moans, crying out for redemption. When Jesus returns to rule on earth, children will even play safely with once dangerous animals.
Animals will be restored to their original, good-natured selves.

“For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.” (Romans 8:22 NKJV)
The fall of Lucifer was his own choice. No one tempted him to sin. What Satan really wants is to take over God's throne and become the new God. Image Credits: www.coroflot.com

The fall of Lucifer and what Satan really wants

Genesis 1:1-2 - “without form, and void” in Hebrew means “a wilderness”. It was chaotic.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” (Genesis 1:1-2 NKJV)

Isaiah 45:18 - God did not create the earth to be chaotic or without form and void.

“For thus says the LORD, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: “I am the LORD, and there is no other.” (Isaiah 45:18 NKJV)

God said to man “be fruitful and replenish the earth”. “Re” means to do it again. This means that before man was created, another civilization existed on the earth.

Pastor Prince believes that before man was created, the three archangels Michael, Gabriel and Lucifer, lived on the earth.
Michael is the warring archangel. Gabriel is the messenger archangel and there was Lucifer.

Ezekiel 28:13-19 - Before man was created, Lucifer was in Eden. Lucifer was created by God as an amazingly beautiful creature.
He was a musical, worshipping archangel. He had music instruments built in him.
Before man fell, there was no war and no messages to give so what were Michael and Gabriel doing? They were probably also worshipping archangels.
The three archangels were probably all created as worshipping archangels: a tripartite - God creates many things in threes.
Cherubs are powerful angels - they are not little cute baby angels floating around on a cloud and shooting arrows of love from his bow.
The iniquity that was found in Lucifer was the sin of pride.
Lucifer was the highest being that’s next to God.
He could have easily tempted Adam to kill Eve but that’s not his plan.
Lucifer has a higher ambition: he was aiming for God’s throne. His plan is to make God compromise on His righteousness so that God’s throne would be forfeited.
The devil thinks that if God lost His throne, he would be the one next in line to be the new God.
Lucifer saw that God loves man and that man brought pleasure to God. He hurt man so as to force God to do something that would compromise His righteousness.
The difference between Lucifer and man’s sin is that Lucifer chose to sin - no one tempted him. But Adam was tempted by the devil to sin.

Exodus 25:18-20 - The three archangels were created as cherubs that covered God’s throne. They were created to be custodians/guardians of God’s holiness and righteousness.
The mercy seat represents God's throne. God didn’t want to see and be reminded of man’s sins as represented by the two tablets of the Ten Commandments.
Once a year, on the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur), blood would be sprinkled on the mercy seat to cover man’s sins.

“And you shall make two cherubim of gold; of hammered work you shall make them at the two ends of the mercy seat. Make one cherub at one end, and the other cherub at the other end; you shall make the cherubim at the two ends of it of one piece with the mercy seat. And the cherubim shall stretch out their wings above, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and they shall face one another; the faces of the cherubim shall be toward the mercy seat.” (Exodus 25:18-20 NKJV)

One third of the angels in heaven rebelled together with Lucifer.
They fell and became the demons on earth today.
They seem to gravitate towards certain places on the earth today because probably those allotted domains are the ones accessible to the devil and his cohorts.
The good news is that there are still two thirds of holy angels that are for us.
There are more angels with us than with the devil.

Animals do not have a spirit. Man has free will and a spirit.
Man can connect and fellowship with God through his spirit.
Man is a higher creation than animals.

God was the first one to kill an animal. He killed the animals to make bloodied coats of skin to cover Adam and Eve.
Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.
Adam and Eve made coverings of leaves for themselves but it was insufficient for them.
But when God creates a covering, it is all-sufficient for man.

Before Adam and Eve left the Garden of Eden, God prophesied that the seed of the woman would crush the devil. That seed is Jesus.
The devil thought that Abel was the prophesied seed and instigated Cain to kill Abel.
This shows that the devil is not all-knowing, and another thing is that he can’t be everywhere at once.
Most times when we are tempted or we feel a dark presence oppressing us, it’s not the devil himself but probably one or more of his minions.
The devil is probably personally oppressing and tempting God's anointed man of the hour.
Back then Martin Luther said that he felt a dark presence in the room he was in and that the devil was there personally to oppress him.
It could be possible because Martin Luther was God's man of the hour at that time.

God works a lot on you when you are sleeping. When you are sleeping you can’t take credit or work for God’s blessings.
While Adam was sleeping, God created the best for him - Eve.
God works the night shift.
God cut the covenant with Abraham while Abraham was sleeping.
Ask God to repair your cells and restore your youth while you sleep.

Job 1:7-11 - In the Book of Job, God asked Satan, “from where do you come?”
God is not asking because He doesn’t know the answer. God and Jesus ask questions because they want to test people and see what they reply.
The devil still thinks that he is the jealous guardian of God’s righteousness.
In a self-righteous way, the devil is still scanning the earth to watch for who is breaking God’s Law in order to uphold God’s righteousness.

“And the LORD said to Satan, “From where do you come?” So Satan answered the LORD and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.” Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?” So Satan answered the LORD and said, “Does Job fear God for nothing? Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face!”” (Job 1:7-11 NKJV)

Zechariah 3:1-4 - Satan’s name was not personally mentioned often in the Old Testament. This is one of the places it is mentioned.

“Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him. And the LORD said to Satan, “The LORD rebuke you, Satan! The LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?” Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the Angel. Then He answered and spoke to those who stood before Him, saying, “Take away the filthy garments from him.” And to him He said, “See, I have removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes.”” (Zechariah 3:1-4 NKJV)

I Corinthians 2:8 - “Rulers of this age” refer to the devil and his high ranking demons. The devil did not understand God's plan of using the cross as a means for mankind to be saved.

“which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.” (I Corinthians 2:8 NKJV)

The three archangels Michael, Gabriel and Lucifer were created as powerful covering cherubs who worship God and as custodians of His righteousness. After the fall of Lucifer, there are only two holy archangels left - that's why the Ark of the Covenant only has two cherubs covering the mercy seat - representing Michael and Gabriel.

The Law is powerless against God's love for us - The devil has no fight against grace.

Daniel 6:7-16 - King Darius loved Daniel the most out of all the governors.
The satraps appealed to King Darius’ ego to get their evil law instituted.
Despite the written decree being in place, Daniel still prayed.
In this story, King Darius represents God, Daniel represents us, and the satraps represent the devil and his cohorts.
Here in this part of the story, we see that the love of the king was powerless against the law.

“All the governors of the kingdom, the administrators and satraps, the counselors and advisors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute and to make a firm decree, that whoever petitions any god or man for thirty days, except you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions. Now, O king, establish the decree and sign the writing, so that it cannot be changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which does not alter.” Therefore King Darius signed the written decree. Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days. Then these men assembled and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God. And they went before the king, and spoke concerning the king’s decree: “Have you not signed a decree that every man who petitions any god or man within thirty days, except you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions?” The king answered and said, “The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which does not alter.” So they answered and said before the king, “That Daniel, who is one of the captives from Judah, does not show due regard for you, O king, or for the decree that you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day.” And the king, when he heard these words, was greatly displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him; and he labored till the going down of the sun to deliver him. Then these men approached the king, and said to the king, “Know, O king, that it is the law of the Medes and Persians that no decree or statute which the king establishes may be changed.” So the king gave the command, and they brought Daniel and cast him into the den of lions. But the king spoke, saying to Daniel, “Your God, whom you serve continually, He will deliver you.”” (Daniel 6:7-16 NKJV)

John 8:3-12 - The Pharisees were not so much interested in upholding God's Law, if not they would have stoned the woman where she was caught. There were many stones in Israel.
Their purpose was to catch Jesus doing something that compromised God's Law.
The devil is not so much interested in attacking us as compared to attack God's throne.
The devil's purpose is to put God in a dilemma, to see how He can be righteous and yet be merciful.
Jesus was not pressured by the Pharisees' repeated questioning.
Jesus stooped down twice and wrote on the stony ground to show that He is the God who wrote the Law on Mount Sinai.
Jesus stoops down to raise us up.
Daniel wasn't guilty of the evil law, but this woman was guilty of the perfect and Holy Law.
Jesus said "Neither do I condemn you" because in a few days, He would pay for the woman's sins at the cross.
In the incident of King Darius and Daniel, we see love powerless against the law.
Here in this incident we see the Law powerless against love.
Because of the cross, without compromising His righteousness, our loving God can still have a righteous outlet to give and supply mankind with all their needs.

“Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?” This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear. So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more. Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”” (John 8:3-12 NKJV)

We are no longer under the Law because Jesus has already fulfilled the Law!
You can see the pristine standard of the Law fulfilled at the cross. The death of Jesus at the cross righteously paid for all the sins of man.

The devil is still functioning as an Accuser today.
When the devil comes to accuse you and remind you of how you have sinned, remember to point him to the cross where all your sins have been paid for already.
That is how you can have a clear, rested conscience.
The DNA is a very intelligent strain. If you want to punish yourself, it produces something that harms your body and causes sickness and disease.
If you have a clear conscience, it is well for your body.

The veil of the temple is not because God wants man to stay away from Him.
When the veil was torn, God stepped out in love and said “welcome home children”.
We wants us to be reconciled to Him.

The devil understands beauty and wisdom - he uses them to tempt man.
But there is one thing that the devil doesn’t understand and has no fight against: grace (Hesed).

10 Tips for Teaching Kids about Jesus: How Christian Parents can Raise God-Loving Children
As Christian parents, teaching our kids about Jesus should be our highest priority. It is the best present you can give to your children. Let's raise them to be God-loving children! Image credits: www.kidsofintegrity.com .

In this blog post, I will share 10 tips for teaching kids about Jesus and how you as a Christian parent can help your child to come to know and love Him.
These tips are based on what we practice with our daughter and also what we plan to practice with her in the future as well.

As I am writing this, our daughter Maeleth Sarah Goh is 23 months old, turning 2 next month! Reflecting on the past 2 years, I have made some parenting mistakes and also have had some parenting wins.

However I feel that the most important thing I can do for my daughter is to help her know Jesus. I want to raise her in a Jesus-exalting environment, and let her start benefiting from the sweet life of having a covenant relationship with God from a young age.

You see, I was not born into a Christian family. My parents believe in a diluted version of Taoism/Buddhism and I believe that because I was raised in such an environment since young, the devil had many opportunities to attack me and hold me back from enjoying the good life that Jesus died to give me.

It was not until I turned 17 that I received Jesus as my Lord and Savior and found out all that I had been missing out on in life.

My wife Amilee was also not born or raised in a Christian family and went through many setbacks and hardship in life too.
We both feel that all that unnecessary hurt that she went through was because Jesus wasn't her Lord and Savior yet.

Therefore, it is our deepest desire for Mae to receive Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior from as young an age as possible and grow to be a God-loving child.

1) Include Jesus in your everyday conversation with your kids.

When we make Jesus the center of our lives, everything will be held together.

We love talking about Jesus, discussing how good He is and telling Mae about Him.

Here are some ways you can include Jesus in your everyday conversations with your kids:

In the morning, praise the Lord in the presence of your child saying "Thank you Jesus for this new day. Your grace is new every morning! This is the day you have made - we will rejoice and be glad in it."

At night, sing your child to sleep with Jesus-centered worship songs like "Jesus Loves Me". Kiss him or her and say "Sleep well. Jesus is with you and He will give you blessed and happy dreams."

When good things happen, say in front of your child "Thank you Jesus! It is because of You that we have this blessing!"

When setbacks come, encourage your child by saying "Don't worry, Jesus will help us through this. He is our Shield and our Defender!"

At all times whether good or bad, keep making Jesus the most important part of your life.

When your child sees how central Jesus is to your life, he or she will get a sense of how real, reliable and good Jesus is.

2) Play praise and worship songs during the day in the background and throughout the night.

We love to play praise and worship music in the house. After falling in love with it, no other genre of music is as enjoyable.

Music has a great power to influence people’s thoughts, emotions and even beliefs. Praise and worship music has many benefits for its listeners too.

By playing Jesus-centered songs for Mae, we hope that they will let come to know Jesus and experience His love and goodness.

We currently play “Oceans” by Hillsong for Mae through the night.
I feel that it’s a very suitable song for that purpose because there aren’t much strong drums or bass beats which may make her feel unrested.

3) Partake of the Holy Communion everyday together as a family.

My wife and I partake of the Holy Communion (aka the Lord’s Supper) with Mae at home every day.
We purchase pre-packed communion elements and the three of us share one daily.
Mae loves taking communion and she says “Amen” and “Praise God” too.

There are many physical and spiritual benefits in partaking of the Holy Communion, some of which are:

1) It is a way of receiving divine healing from God.

2) It is a great way to focus on Jesus and remember His finished work at the cross.

3) It is a blessed time of family bonding over an activity that’s truly meaningful.

This is the prayer that I say when I lead our time of communion:

The Bread:

”Lord Jesus, thank You for Your body that was broken at the cross for our healing. We declare that by Your stripes, we are healed, healthy, strong, and young forever, Amen!”

The Blood:

”Lord Jesus, thank You for the blood that You shed at the cross for the forgiveness of all our sins. We declare that we are forgiven of all our sins past, present future, and that we are blessed and forever the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. Amen!”

Enjoy this video of the three of us partaking of the Holy Communion together. Feel free to watch this video and partake with us too!

4) Read Jesus-centered books to your kids.

Right now, Mae has an interesting habit - She is extremely difficult to coax to sleep in the afternoon and one of the only ways is to read the Book of Proverbs in the Bible to her.

What book is more Jesus-centered than the Bible right?

I also read a book called “The Baby Bible ABCs” to her - it’s a children’s book that teaches the alphabets through Bible stories.

I find that most children enjoy reading and being told stories so it is another great way for teaching kids about Jesus.

Instead of only reading books about normal stuff like animals, numbers, alphabets and shapes, why not read children's books about Jesus too?

You can set a routine whereby you read one Jesus-centered book to your child every night - a full book if it's short or a chapter if it's long.

Consistency and repetition work really well with kids. I find that I can keep reading the same book to Mae and she doesn't get bored of it. After a while, she can even repeat what happens in the story back to me as well!

Reading Jesus-centered books can be a great pre-sleep bonding activity for you and your child, and it's a great opportunity to share Jesus with him or her subtly on a daily basis.

5) Encourage your kids to view Jesus-centered videos and apps when they use electronic devices.

It's amazing how tech-savvy kids are nowadays - you show them once and they grasp how to operate a device straight away.

Maeleth likes to watch kids shows on YouTube on the iPad. One way we make the screen time more beneficial and educational for her is by sometimes showing her Jesus-centered kids videos.

That way she can enjoy herself while also being exposed to Jesus in a fun manner. There are many adorable animations available online.

Other times, we let Mae watch the kids shows of her choice. Be sure to monitor what your child watches too because sometimes some shows can teach wrong things or have inappropriate content - parental guidance while your child is on YouTube is extremely important.

Read my other blog post about this: A Kid Safe YouTube begins with Parental Guidance (Featuring Kids Songs that are Dangerous for Children)

If your child enjoys watching cartoons, you could try showing him or her the "VeggieTales" series on Netflix if you are subscribed to it.
That cartoon teaches Biblical principles and about the love of God for us through the cute and funny adventures that the main characters go through. The songs are also pretty catchy!

I also personally love the Bible App for Kids by YouVersion which I find is fun, interactive, education, super Jesus-centered and is a great mobile app for teaching kids about Jesus. It is available for download on both the App Store and Google Play Store.

6) Enroll them in a Christian school that teaches and believes in the gospel of grace.

Amilee and I have a Christian school in mind that we plan to enroll Mae into when she reaches the age for it.  I am praying to the Lord that she will be successfully accepted!

In my secondary school and junior college days, I was a student of Anglo Chinese School (Independent) in Singapore.

I am forever grateful that Jesus led me there because that school makes the word of God an integral part of their school system.

Every morning during school assembly, there would be a devotional and verse shared and we would pray together as a school.
On Mondays, there would be chapel service and the school pastor would preach a message and we would sing praise and worship songs together as a school.

At that time, I wasn't a believer yet but due to the influence of the school and my fellow classmates who were believers, I got curious and eventually invited myself to church and got saved!

The full story with the juicy details is going to be another post for another day, haha!

School is going to be such a big part of our childrens' lives so I feel that choosing one that honors and prioritizes Jesus and the word of God is really important - We should aim to send our kids to a school that teaches kids about Jesus.

7) Bring your kids to church with you every Sunday.

Is attending church important to you? Well for Amilee and I, church is what we look forward to every week!

We need to feed on His word for us, if not the whole of the next week we will feel down and spiritually-empty.

If attending church is a priority for you, then why shouldn't it be for your children too? Bring them to church with you!

We are super blessed that in New Creation Church in Singapore where Amilee and I worship at, they have a great children's ministry where we can leave Mae at.

They teach Mae about Jesus through play, songs, and story-telling, and it frees us up to attend church services together as a couple. We are so thankful for this blessing!

Don't think that your children are too young to go to church or that it won't benefit them anyway.

Their spirits can receive from the Lord and I feel that it's important to give them as much exposure to Jesus as possible.

If your children are not being taught by the Lord from young, you can be sure that the devil is working hard to teach them his own set of worldly values and beliefs through the media, their friends, and other people in their lives.

We need to teach them the ways of the Lord from a young age. I'll leave this verse with you:

"Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6 NKJV)

8) Practice thanksgiving before meals together with your family.

Before we eat our food we say a simple prayer to thank God for His provision in our lives.

It's as short as this: "Thank You Jesus for the food, sanctify it in Jesus' name, Amen!".

I feel that it doesn't have to be a long prayer, it just needs to be sincere.

Before I feed Mae her fresh milk from the milk bottle twice daily, I would say "Thank You Jesus for the milk, sanctify it in Jesus' name." and Mae would reply "Amen".

I want to make thanksgiving a daily part of Mae's life, and I believe that saying thanks to Jesus before meals is a great way of teaching kids about Jesus.

It also helps to teach your children that Jesus is the Source of provision and that He is the One who supplies all our needs. The earlier our children know that, the better!

9) Choose a "verse of the day" everyday and memorize it and meditate on it together as a family.

This is something that I plan to do for Mae's benefit when she is able to read on her own in the future.

How it will go is Amilee and I will pray for a verse to meditate on as a family every day and share it with Mae as well.

I feel that this is a great way to familiarize your children with God's word and in times of need, the Holy Spirit can bring to remembrance the verse to help encourage your child.

Think about it: A verse each day means 365 verses a year! If your children can remember a few and keep them in the midst of their hearts, that's very powerful!

Right now, Amilee and I are doing Bible Study together every night. We choose a book in the Bible and we start from the beginning of it, studying one chapter every night.

After reading it, we share our personal takeaways with each other. I really enjoy this time of couple bonding with her and I feel super blessed that I have a God-loving wife who enjoys God's word.

At the start of 2018, we began with the Book of Proverbs to prioritize seeking God's Hesed wisdom.

Do check out my Bible Study Takeaways from the Book of Proverbs too - I am sure you will be tremendously blessed by it!

10) Practice what you preach: Be a role model for your kids by parenting them with grace.

It is really easy to tell others what the right thing to do is, but what happens when you have to live that truth in your own life as well?

I believe that children learn more from what they see us doing, and not what they hear us tell them.

The best thing you can do for your children is to live by grace and faith and show them how a king and priest to God should live.

They will be watching and be inspired by your example if you do it right. I pray that I will be such a role model for Mae.

I want to parent Mae with grace: Like how Jesus expresses His love for His disciples regularly, and yet firmly rebukes them when they need correction, so that they can profit from the discipline.

I recently attended a parenting seminar conducted by Pastor Matthews and his wife Rachel in New Creation Church and took away so many amazing lessons in parenting preschoolers.

You can read my personal notes of the seminar here if you join us as a patron.  I know you will be extremely blessed by the many revelations in there - especially on how to train and discipline your children!

28 January 2018 - The Love of God Revealed in the Lives of Mephibosheth and David - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online

Let God have the time to work His miracles in a service.

Don’t let your life, marriage, family, etc. become a vending machine - everything instantaneous, and in express mode.
Don’t let professionalism take over every area of your life.
Sometimes you have to take time to enjoy what the Lord has given you.

The longest chapter in the Book of Genesis is Genesis 24 where Abraham sent an unnamed servant to find a bride for his beloved son Isaac.
That unnamed servant represents the Holy Spirit.
Right now, the Holy Spirit is working all over the world, preparing a beautiful bride for Jesus.

The church is the beautiful bride of Christ. It is not a building.

John 1:17 - You can send a gift from a distance, but when you “come” in person, it’s personal and near.
Grace and truth are one. When you touch water, you touch wet. Don’t try to separate grace and truth - that’s trying to separate what God has put together.
What God has put together, let no man tear asunder.
In Hebrew, grace and truth are “hesed ve emet”.

“For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17 NKJV)

Give room for wrath. Let God be your Avenger. Don’t try to do it yourself.

The sermon on the mount can be summarized like this: God is unfairly good.

To God, 1 plus 1 equals 1. A man and a woman in marriage becomes 1 flesh.
God’s economy is different from the world.

II Samuel 2:5-6 - The word “kindness” is hesed. The words “kindness and truth” are “hesed ve emet”.
People have the idea that truth has a negative connotation, that it’s hard.
The word truth doesn’t mean judgment. Hesed ve Emet just means true grace.

“So David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh Gilead, and said to them, “You are blessed of the LORD, for you have shown this kindness to your lord, to Saul, and have buried him. And now may the LORD show kindness and truth to you. I also will repay you this kindness, because you have done this thing.” (II Samuel 2:5-6 NKJV)

Genesis 15:7-21 - God works with covenant. The reason why everything is being shaken in the Middle East and especially Jerusalem, is because of covenant.
When God cut a covenant with Abraham, He put Abraham to sleep.
The blood of animals was everywhere because the animals were divided in two.
The vultures that came down on the carcasses are demons - Jesus defined in a parable that the birds of the air that snatch away the seeds is the devil.
God crossed to the other side while Abraham was sleeping. It represents how Jesus took our place and suffered to pay for our sins.
While Abraham was sleeping, he saw in a vision that a Smoking Oven (a picture of God the Father appearing in a cloud of smoke on Mount Sinai) and a Burning Torch (Jesus the Light of the World) passed between the pieces.
That represents God the Father and God the Son cutting the covenant on behalf of Abraham - Jesus taking Abraham’s place.
That is because God didn’t want Abraham to be held accountable for it.

“Then He said to him, “I am the LORD, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it.” And he said, “Lord GOD, how shall I know that I will inherit it?” So He said to him, “Bring Me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old female goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.” Then he brought all these to Him and cut them in two, down the middle, and placed each piece opposite the other; but he did not cut the birds in two. And when the vultures came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away. Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, horror and great darkness fell upon him. Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years. And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions. Now as for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried at a good old age. But in the fourth generation they shall return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.” And it came to pass, when the sun went down and it was dark, that behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a burning torch that passed between those pieces. On the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates— the Kenites, the Kenezzites, the Kadmonites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”” (Genesis 15:7-21 NKJV)

Teach your daughters that virginity is important because sex is a covenant act.
The first time a woman has sex there is a shedding of blood - covenant.
Sex is so beautiful that it’s deeper than just being physical - it’s spirit, soul and body.

Mephibosheth initially had a bad opinion of David because of the negative circumstances in his life. However when David showed him grace, everything changed. From someone who was "breathing shame", he became a man whose words were exterminating shame! God's heart is to love and bless us, and He's not out to judge or punish us. We need to have a good opinion of our Heavenly Father.

The covenant friendship between Jonathan and David

David killing Goliath represents a victory for Israel.
Saul was “head and shoulders” above every man in Israel - he was the tallest in stature so he should have been the most suitable one to match and battle Goliath.
But he didn’t have the relationship with God that he had when he was a young man.
When David killed Goliath, he cut off his head, and carried the head.
Saul was glad, and when Jonathan (Saul’s son) saw that, God knitted his heart together with David’s.

I Samuel 18:3-5 - Jonathan giving David his robe represents Jesus giving us His robe of righteousness.
"behaved wisely" here is Sakaal wisdom - the wisdom that leads to good success.
Our shame and nakedness is covered because Jesus was stripped naked for us at the cross.

“Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan took off the robe that was on him and gave it to David, with his armor, even to his sword and his bow and his belt. So David went out wherever Saul sent him, and behaved wisely. And Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.” (I Samuel 18:3-5 NKJV)

Give up your small ambitions. God has a higher purpose for you.

Saul became insanely jealous of David because the people's hearts were all for David and Saul's heart was set on killing David. There was once where he even threw a javelin at David.
Saul kept sending David out for battle against the Philistines, hoping that he would get killed in battle.
Never feel insecure or threatened when a new young leader who is moving in the same gifts as you joins the ministry.
If you try to suppress him or her or keep finding faults, then it reflects on your leadership as a senior.
However if you mentor him or her well, then you are needed to mentor many others and your future is secure.

I Samuel 20:8-9 - The word “kindly” is hesed.
Jonathan promised to warn David if he knew that his father had planned evil for David.
Covenant friendship is even closer than kinship.
Jesus is our (covenant) Friend that sticks closer to us than a brother.

“Therefore you shall deal kindly with your servant, for you have brought your servant into a covenant of the LORD with you. Nevertheless, if there is iniquity in me, kill me yourself, for why should you bring me to your father?” But Jonathan said, “Far be it from you! For if I knew certainly that evil was determined by my father to come upon you, then would I not tell you?”” (I Samuel 20:8-9 NKJV)

In some places in the Books of I Samuel and II Samuel, David represents God the Father and Jonathan represents Jesus. Jonathan’s name means “the gift of God” - Jesus is God’s gift to us.
Both David and Jonathan cut a covenant.
Saul represents all mankind.

I Samuel 20:30-34 - “Why should he be killed? What has he done?” reminds us about what Pontius Pilate said about Jesus.

“Then Saul’s anger was aroused against Jonathan, and he said to him, “You son of a perverse, rebellious woman! Do I not know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own shame and to the shame of your mother’s nakedness? For as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth, you shall not be established, nor your kingdom. Now therefore, send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die.” And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said to him, “Why should he be killed? What has he done?” Then Saul cast a spear at him to kill him, by which Jonathan knew that it was determined by his father to kill David. So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and ate no food the second day of the month, for he was grieved for David, because his father had treated him shamefully.” (I Samuel 20:30-34 NKJV)

I Samuel 20:35-42 - Jonathan and David cut the covenant between themselves and their descendants forever.

“And so it was, in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little lad was with him. Then he said to his lad, “Now run, find the arrows which I shoot.” As the lad ran, he shot an arrow beyond him. When the lad had come to the place where the arrow was which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan cried out after the lad and said, “ Is not the arrow beyond you?” And Jonathan cried out after the lad, “Make haste, hurry, do not delay!” So Jonathan’s lad gathered up the arrows and came back to his master. But the lad did not know anything. Only Jonathan and David knew of the matter. Then Jonathan gave his weapons to his lad, and said to him, “Go, carry them to the city.” As soon as the lad had gone, David arose from a place toward the south, fell on his face to the ground, and bowed down three times. And they kissed one another; and they wept together, but David more so. Then Jonathan said to David, “Go in peace, since we have both sworn in the name of the LORD, saying, ‘May the LORD be between you and me, and between your descendants and my descendants, forever.’ ” So he arose and departed, and Jonathan went into the city.” (I Samuel 20:35-42 NKJV)

I Samuel 23:14-18 - This is the last time that David and Jonathan met.

“And David stayed in strongholds in the wilderness, and remained in the mountains in the Wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but God did not deliver him into his hand. So David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life. And David was in the Wilderness of Ziph in a forest. Then Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went to David in the woods and strengthened his hand in God. And he said to him, “Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you. You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you. Even my father Saul knows that.” So the two of them made a covenant before the LORD. And David stayed in the woods, and Jonathan went to his own house.” (I Samuel 23:14-18 NKJV)

Jonathan and David were covenant friends. They cut a covenant of loyalty and love between themselves and their descendants forever. Mephibosheth was blessed and received grace because of that covenant relationship. We have a covenant with God as well and can freely receive His blessings and goodness because of it.

From breathing shame to exterminating shame: The grace shown to Mephibosheth because of the covenant between Jonathan and David

II Samuel 4:4 - The nurse ran away with Mephibosheth to escape from David, thinking that David wanted to take the throne and was determining evil against Saul’s family. But that was not David’s heart at all.
The people never saw or heard David crying for Saul and still calling Saul “the Lord’s anointed” despite all the evil things Saul has done to David.
That’s like how mankind always thinks that God is out to get them and never sees God’s true heart of love for them.
The name “Mephibosheth” has one meaning of “breathing out shame”.
Mankind breathes out shame because they don’t know that God is for them and not against them.
When escaping from David, Mephibosheth must have been in pain from the fall and crying uncontrollably.
Most likely the nurse was telling Mephibosheth to stop crying and that it’s all David’s fault that his father and grandfather are dead.
This probably caused him to bear a grudge against David.

“Jonathan, Saul’s son, had a son who was lame in his feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel; and his nurse took him up and fled. And it happened, as she made haste to flee, that he fell and became lame. His name was Mephibosheth.” (II Samuel 4:4 NKJV)

II Samuel 5:6-8 - David never said that the blind and the lame couldn’t enter his house. David was just using what the Jebusites said to mock him, against them.
However, it was taken out of context by the people. It was a false rumor.
This rumor probably reached Mephibosheth’s ears and caused him to hate David even more.
So many people take God’s word out of context and make God out to be angry and just waiting to punish man.

“And the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who spoke to David, saying, “You shall not come in here; but the blind and the lame will repel you,” thinking, “David cannot come in here.” Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion (that is, the City of David). Now David said on that day, “Whoever climbs up by way of the water shaft and defeats the Jebusites (the lame and the blind, who are hated by David’s soul), he shall be chief and captain. ” Therefore they say, “The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.”” (II Samuel 5:6-8 NKJV)

Matthew 21:13-15 - They finally saw that the Son of David is for the lame and the blind.

“And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ” Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant” (Matthew 21:13-15 NKJV)

II Samuel 9:1-10 - The word “kindness” here is hesed which means grace.
“Lo Debar” means “No Word/ No pasture”.
Mephibosheth was living in Lo Debar - he was probably growing up in an environment where he was told lies about David.
When we don’t listen to God’s word, the devil will still be trying to feed us his lies.
David brought Mephibosheth to himself. It's like how God is the One to seek us out first, not the other way around.
The first words when God meets us is “do not fear” because like Mephibosheth and David, we have a covenant with Him.
When God shows you grace, everything you lost will be restored.
When David spoke to the son of grace, Mephibosheth (the son of Jonathan), there was no word of command, and no laws.
But to the servant Ziba, David gave commands and there were no words of grace spoken.
There is a clear difference between a son and a servant.
A son just receives the goodness, whereas a servant has to work for it.
David’s heart was already full of love for Mephibosheth before even meeting him.
God’s heart is full of love for us even before we repent or come to know Him.
It is the kindness of God that melts our heart in repentance.
It is not our repentance that melts God’s heart.

“Now David said, “Is there still anyone who is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” And there was a servant of the house of Saul whose name was Ziba. So when they had called him to David, the king said to him, “ Are you Ziba?” He said, “At your service!” Then the king said, “ Is there not still someone of the house of Saul, to whom I may show the kindness of God?” And Ziba said to the king, “There is still a son of Jonathan who is lame in his feet.” So the king said to him, “Where is he?” And Ziba said to the king, “Indeed he is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, in Lo Debar.” Then King David sent and brought him out of the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, from Lo Debar. Now when Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, had come to David, he fell on his face and prostrated himself. Then David said, “Mephibosheth?” And he answered, “Here is your servant!” So David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.” Then he bowed himself, and said, “What is your servant, that you should look upon such a dead dog as I?” And the king called to Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said to him, “I have given to your master’s son all that belonged to Saul and to all his house. You therefore, and your sons and your servants, shall work the land for him, and you shall bring in the harvest, that your master’s son may have food to eat. But Mephibosheth your master’s son shall eat bread at my table always.” Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.” (II Samuel 9:1-10 NKJV)

II Samuel 9:13 - The Holy Spirit is reminding us that our walk with God will never be perfect, but we can still continually eat at God's table.
When we’re sitting at the table, our feet are hidden by the table.
Don’t look at your lame feet - focus on the bounty of the King that’s on the table.
There’s so much for you on the table: healing, provision, peace and all of God’s blessings.
The name “Mephibosheth” has an alternative meaning of “exterminating shame”.
Bible Scholars are confused as to why his name has these two meanings.
Now that he has received grace, he is no longer breathing shame, but the words that he speaks exterminates shame.

“So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem, for he ate continually at the king’s table. And he was lame in both his feet.” (II Samuel 9:13 NKJV)

Later on when David’s son Absalom determined to kill David, David fled from the city.
Mephibosheth didn’t shave his beard at all because of David and was longing for him to return.
On the other hand, Ziba the servant showed his true colors and his heart coveted Saul’s land.
When we experience God’s grace, our heart will be for God.
If we live by the Law and focus on our works, we won’t have a heart for God.

5 Life Lessons and Moral Value in Maze Runner: The Death Cure Movie 2018 - Based on the Maze Runner Series by James Dashner
You are reading: 5 Life Lessons and Moral Value in Maze Runner: The Death Cure Movie 2018 - Based on the Maze Runner Series by James Dashner. Repin this on Pinterest to share these takeaways with your family and friends!

Leading Cast of Maze Runner: The Death Cure Movie 2018

Dylan O'Brien as Thomas
Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Newt
Kaya Scodelario as Teresa
Ki Hong Lee as Minho
Will Poulter as Gally
Giancarlo Esposito as Jorge
Rosa Salazar as Brenda
Patricia Clarkson as Chancellor Ava Paige
Aidan Gillen as Director Janson (Rat Man)
Barry Pepper as Vince

1) We don’t get to play God by deciding who deserves to live or die. Live with integrity and a clear conscience and you will... live long.

I love that in this movie all the self-righteous characters like Teresa, Chancellor Paige, Director Janson and Lawrence who do wicked deeds suffer terrible deaths, whereas the innocent ones who don’t get involved in the violence and manipulation are the ones who survive and live in the safe haven in the end.

A beautiful story of how good always triumphs over evil and that it’s better to do things the right way than to try and achieve a goal through underhand methods.
Moral Lesson 1 in Maze Runner: The Death Cure - We don’t get to play God by deciding who deserves to live or die. Live with integrity and a clear conscience and you will... live long.

2) It’s also not just about how long you live. It’s about the impact you make while you are alive.

It’s really sad that Newt eventually succumbed to the Flare virus and was mercy-killed by Thomas.

Despite his tragic death at a young age, his heroic deeds of fighting alongside Thomas will never be forgotten.

The good deeds and his reputation will outlast him on the earth.

What’s the point of living a super long life and yet realizing that your life had no meaning and didn’t help anyone else?
Moral Lesson 2 in Maze Runner: The Death Cure - It’s also not just about how long you live. It’s about the impact you make while you are alive.

3) There is no length too great to go for a true friend in need.

It may seem quite naive for Thomas and friends to keep trying to save Minho when the odds are so stacked against them and they have the hundreds of kids to lead and help under Vince’s care.

However that’s the extent of their loyalty and devotion as friends and sworn brothers.

They have been through so much together, overcome so many trials in The Maze Runner and The Scorch Trials, that they can’t possible leave Minho to suffer the cruel torture by WCKD.

Do you have a friend that would do anything for you if you were in trouble? Then you’re very blessed - treasure that friendship.
Conversely, are you as loyal and devoted to your true friends as Thomas is?
Moral Lesson 3 in Maze Runner: The Death Cure - There is no length too great to go for a true friend in need.

4) Mankind can be so selfish and arrogant.

Director Janson was so selfish that when discovered that Thomas’ blood was the cure for the Flare virus, he didn’t think about how to make it available to everyone who needed it.

Instead, he decided to profit from it and to be selective about who gets access to it.
He was essentially saying that he gets to choose who lives and who dies - how arrogant.

Then there are also the people living comfortably and dressing fancily in the "Last City" that's equipped with modern amenities, while just outside the city walls are the "Cranks" living in derelict conditions.
Instead of sharing the provisions and comforts, the people living in the city just choose to pretend like the Cranks don't exist.
Director Janson even opened fire on them and killed so many when they approached the city gate.

Is this a microcosm of how the world is like today, where people living in the First-World Countries take their comforts and luxuries for granted while people are forgotten, starving and dying in Third-World Countries?

There are people in this world who try to unethically enrich themselves at the expense of others’ wellbeing.
Their wealth and success will never last. There will always be retribution for their evil acts.

Moral Lesson 4 in Maze Runner: The Death Cure - Mankind can be selfish and arrogant.

5) To accomplish significant feats in life, you will need connections.

If Thomas didn’t know Brenda and Jorge, he wouldn’t have been able to save the hundred kids on the train.

If he didn’t know Gally, he wouldn’t have gotten access into the city.

If Thomas didn’t know Teresa, he wouldn’t have been able to rescue the 28 immunes from the holding cell block.

If Thomas didn’t know Brenda and Jorge, he would have died in the fiery inferno when the explosive projectiles were fired into the building, instead of being rescued.

If he didn’t know Vince, he wouldn’t be able to live safely in the Safe Haven.

Life is all about connections. Today's currency is your network - who do you know and who knows you.

Truly in life we can’t accomplish great things alone - look at all the amazing feats done throughout history: They all involved many people working together to achieve it.

Moral Lesson 5 in Maze Runner: The Death Cure - To accomplish significant feats in life, you will need connections.

24 January 2018 - Encounter Night: The Lost World Out There Needs Grace - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes for Midweek Service

Pastor Prince ministered in healing as led by the Holy Spirit. Lots of people received healing.
Healing anointing is not limited by time or space.
Receive your healing for whatever condition you have as you are reading this now in Jesus’ name!

Believers will lay hands on the sick and they SHALL recover.
It may not be immediate healing but they will recover for sure.

Many times when you receive a healing miracle from God, you won’t feel anything supernatural. No heat, cold, electricity-feeling or anything.
Divine healing doesn’t have to come with dramatic flair to be effective.

Holiness is not the purchase price for your healing. Healing is a gift.

Are you still sin-conscious? If you are, then you still haven’t received the grace of God.

The one who is supposed to be satisfied by the payment is the one to whom the debt is owed.
If God is satisfied by the payment that Jesus has given at the cross, then why aren’t you?

One sacrifice for sins forever. One sacrifice for sickness forever. Healing is a gift - it is a grace.

Word from Pastor Prince: There are a few of you that have been feeling dizzy lately during the day.
It’s making you feeling like you’re getting old and getting some sort of serious sickness.

It’s an attack from an evil spirit. Stand up where you are and receive deliverance from it by faith in Jesus’ name.

The lost world out there needs to hear about God’s love and grace being preached, not about the need for morals!

II Kings 1:5-15 - This king is an idol worshipper. He worshipped false gods like Baal.
The third captain had Hesed Wisdom to have the humility to ask for mercy.

“And when the messengers returned to him, he said to them, “Why have you come back?” So they said to him, “A man came up to meet us, and said to us, ‘Go, return to the king who sent you, and say to him, “Thus says the LORD: ‘ Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.’ ” ’ ” Then he said to them, “What kind of man was it who came up to meet you and told you these words?” So they answered him, “A hairy man wearing a leather belt around his waist.” And he said, “It is Elijah the Tishbite.” Then the king sent to him a captain of fifty with his fifty men. So he went up to him; and there he was, sitting on the top of a hill. And he spoke to him: “Man of God, the king has said, ‘Come down!’ ” So Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men.” And fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty. Then he sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty men. And he answered and said to him: “Man of God, thus has the king said, ‘Come down quickly!’ ” So Elijah answered and said to them, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men.” And the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty. Again, he sent a third captain of fifty with his fifty men. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and pleaded with him, and said to him: “Man of God, please let my life and the life of these fifty servants of yours be precious in your sight. Look, fire has come down from heaven and burned up the first two captains of fifties with their fifties. But let my life now be precious in your sight.” And the angel of the LORD said to Elijah, “Go down with him; do not be afraid of him.” So he arose and went down with him to the king.” (II Kings 1:5-15 NKJV)

Luke 9:52-56 - This is the same location as where the evil king in II Kings 1:5-15 lived.
When you read the Old Testament you must be aware that you are reading the Old Testament.
The people back then were under the curse.
Today we are asked to love our enemies.
Whenever you hear preaching that makes you feel like God is going to judge you, that teaching is not from God.
Do you notice that today, the wicked carry on being wicked? God is not willing that any should perish.
God will lead us to repentance by His goodness.

“and sent messengers before His face. And as they went, they entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare for Him. But they did not receive Him, because His face was set for the journey to Jerusalem. And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?” But He turned and rebuked them, and said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them. ” And they went to another village.” (Luke 9:52-56 NKJV)

John 4:9-15 - Morality is a fruit. Grace is the root. Pastor Prince believes in excellent morals but that is not the correct sermon for the world.
The world needs to hear that God loves them, has forgiven them, and wants to save them.
Jesus did not preach to the woman in Samaria about her morals. He preached to her about her thirst. Jesus is about relationship.
The woman didn’t remain immoral. She became an evangelist.
The world sees Christianity as a group that always against everybody and fighting against sin. But they don’t know what we are for.
The devil wants Christians to be distracted with fighting and protesting for causes. But that’s not what Christianity is about.
Don’t ever feel that grace is a weak message. The Apostle Paul pronounced a double curse on anyone who preaches any other gospel.
When you are touched by grace, you become gracious.
There is a lost world out there that is crying and sighing and it’s getting increasingly elderly.
In Korea there is a huge population of believers but many are becoming increasingly aged.
We need to touch the next generation.
There will be a new generation of young believers who seem to be compromising because of the way they look, act or dress but they are actually just focused on pursuing relationship with Jesus.

“Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?” Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”” (John 4:9-15 NKJV)
Morality is a fruit.

There is a judgment upon those who come against grace

The fourth service in New Creation Church is going to be changed to a service that’s reserved for young people.
There’s going to be a different look and different way it is conducted.

You get morals by hearing grace being preached.

John 5:24 - The word “judgment” is “Krisis” in Greek.
A believer will not come into judgment. Many people are concerned about the judgment mentioned in Hebrews 10.
That judgment which is also “krisis” is referring to the Jews who saw Jesus performing God’s miracles and yet still knowingly turned their backs on Jesus.

““Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” (John 5:24 NKJV)

Acts 13:6-12 - God says there’s a judgment upon people who come against grace.
There is still mercy in that judgment because the sorcerer was only blind for a season.

“Now when they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar-Jesus, who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man called for Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God. But Elymas the sorcerer (for so his name is translated) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith. Then Saul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him and said, “O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord? And now, indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a time.” And immediately a dark mist fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand. Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had been done, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.” (Acts 13:6-12 NKJV)

Pastor Prince ended the sermon by praying for us to have the anointing to heal the sick, cast demons out and even raise the dead. Receive this anointing in Jesus’ name!

* Please Take Note: These sermon notes are not official New Creation Church (NCC) or Pastor Joseph Prince sermon notes. These sermon notes are not affiliated with NCC or Pastor Prince.
I highly recommend purchasing Pastor Prince's sermons on his mobile app "Joseph Prince" on Apple App Store or Google Play Store even after you read these notes as I may have missed out something he shared and the overall experience is definitely different when you listen to him preaching directly!
Use these notes as a revision guide instead of solely depending on them!

These sermon notes are independently-compiled by me, and I'm just a loyal and regular attendee of the the church's Sunday services, and I feel led to take detailed personal sermon notes of Pastor Prince's anointed messages to share them with the world, which desperately needs the true word of God and the original gospel of grace.

I feel blessed to be able to attend Pastor Joseph Prince's services in person, and would like to help everyone who isn't able to attend in person, to get hold of the messages as soon as it is preached!

Many blessings and thanks to Terence Koh for supporting this blog as a Superabundant Grace tier patron!
