Bringing a New Pet to the Family Safely and Responsibly
About the Author

Jennifer Glenn left her corporate finance job to pursue her true passion of writing. She now prefers to spend more time with her three beautiful children.

Dog ownership in Singapore has risen considerably in the past few years, with over 62,000 canines providing love, companionship, and unconditional friendship to families. Pet numbers (including cats and other animals) as a whole are even more impressive, with numbers estimated at over 825,000. If you have a family with children and you would like to make it bigger and more active in 2019 with the addition of a pet, how can you ensure that you do the right thing by your pet and your children, and that your pets gets all the loving care that God intended?

Finding Inspiration from the Bible

Before looking at individual things we can do to foster a good relationship between our kids and pets, it may help to see what the Bible had to say on the subject. In Luke 12:6, Jesus spoke of the power of faith, referencing sparrows. He noted that sparrows may have been sold for a couple of pennies, but “not one of them is forgotten by God.” Psalm 147:9, meanwhile, describes how God ensure that all living creatures, including ravens, had enough food. Genesis notes that God created human beings in His own image. It was his intention that we should take care of all creatures on the Earth the way He cares for them… and for us. It is important to understand that when we are dealing with pets, we are very much God’s representatives. We must ensure they are fed, medicated, and loved, to honor the role that God gave us as their keeper.

Picking the Right Pet for our Families

It is important to research well into the needs and character traits of each pet before bringing one home. Depending on the age of your child, certain pets may not be suitable. For instance, iguanas are cute and often sought after by little children, but they need to be trained to go against their natural ‘scratching’ instincts. This will take various hour-long sessions, so unless you can train your iguana prior to taking it home, this pet might be best left for when a child is a little older.

What Dog Breeds are Popular in Singapore?

It is interesting to note that the top dog choice for most Singaporean families is the mixed breed, followed by the toy poodle, shih tzu, miniature schnauzer, Maltese, Jack Russell terrier, golden retriever, chihuahua, labrador retriever, and pomeranian. All these pets are lovely family pets that get on with children and that can easily be trained. It is important to keep size in mind as well. If your little children will be helping you with tasks like taking the dog for a walk, the dog should be light and small enough for older kids to handle well.

Making Sure a Pet is Affordable

Before taking a pet home, it is important to create a yearly budget and to see if you can meet all expenses involved with pet ownership comfortably. The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority stipulates that all dogs must have licences, which must be renewed every year. The cost of these is $15 for a spayed dog and $90 for an unspayed one. If you are adopting a dog, know that you will be expected to pay between $180 and $500, approximately. Food, meanwhile, will set you back around $1000 a year, and healthcare will cost around $400 a year. Dogs also require monthly changes of toys, treats, and grooming products, which can cost around $30 or so per month. Cats are a little less expensive but insignificantly so.

Time Also Matters

Your pet should fit into your lifestyle time-wise as well. Cats are more independent, as are reptiles, but a dog will need a couple of good, long walks a day, during which it can run and give its heart, muscles, and joints the workout they need to stay in optimal condition. As a parent, if you find that you are struggling with either expenses or time, be realistic. Don’t take on more responsibility than you and your family can truly afford.

Introducing a Pet to Your Kids

If you have weighed the pros and cons and opted to own a pet, introduce it slowly to your kids. Start off by speaking to them beforehand and letting them know that touching, petting, and playing with a dog or cat is not a right, but a privilege. It has to be done on the pet’s terms, because we cannot reason with a pet in the same way we can with a person. Thus, with dogs, for instance, kids should be taught to stand with their side to the dog and their fist closed, waiting for the dog to come to them and avoiding direct eye contact. Once the pup comes up, has a sniff and a lick, and shows signs that they are relaxed and happy to be with your kids, you can proceed to teaching them the power of touch. Kids should be taught that cats really like having their own ‘space’. They show they do not like something by wagging their tails vigorously, pulling their ears back, and, sometimes, hissing. Their fur can also ‘stand on end’ when they are annoyed. All these signs should be watched out for and the cat’s need for solitude should be respected. Dogs will often show they are not interested in affection by turning their heads away.

Show your child the right way to touch a pet by putting your hand gently over their hand, guiding them over your pet’s back. Let them know how gentle their touch should be. From the very beginning, children should be told that pulling ears and tails are a strict no-no. Inform them that a pet that is hurt can sometimes react in the only way they know how: by snapping, biting, or scratching the person who is causing them pain.

Safety Procedures

Children should be taught to keep a safe distance from dogs and cats, and to avoid hugging them unless the pet comes in for the hug. Essentially, most dogs and cats feel harassed when their personal space is invaded. Instruct kids to keep their face far away from a dog’s or cat’s mouth and paws. One scratch can cause a painful eye lesion, and the same applies to the pet. That is, kids should keep cutlery, sticks, and any pointed or long toy away from a pet’s eye. Some breeds (such as brachycephalic or flat-muzzled dogs and cats) can be particularly prone to eye ulcers and abrasions because their muzzle is so short that it cannot protect them from protruding objects.

Giving Everyone a Role

Mature or older kids may enjoy caring for the new family pet. One child may be in charge of bathing their pooch or kitty with you supervising the process, another may measure and put food into your pet’s bowl, once again with you watching over. Kids can try their hand at training your dog to sit, roll over, etc., using a clicker. As your kids grow into teens, they can take on new duties such as taking the dog for a walk. Children are likely to feel more bonded to their pet if they take care of them in addition to simply playing with them.

Picking out a new pet is an exciting time for your family, but it will require research beforehand. Make sure that expense and time aren’t an obstacle, and pick the right type of pet for your kid’s age and energy levels. Finally, instill a true love for animals by teaching your kids to treat their pet gently, as God intended. God takes care of all living creatures and since we are made in His image, so should we.

Allow me to close with a verse from the Book of Proverbs:  "A righteous man respects the life of his animal, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel." (Proverbs 12:10 WEB)

"Dear Milton Goh, I truly thank our Abba, Father for the revelations in this book. It is so amazing how I begin to discover important verses in the Bible that I have never read. That instead of following riches, with sleepless nights, and actually shortening our lives, we are just to 'Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ', and 'Love one another'. How beautiful to find out that actually in the Bible there is both 'Earthly or Worldly Investment Wisdom' and 'Eternal Investment Wisdom' according to the revelations here from Ecclesiastes 5:14-17 WEB)!; “It seems like Solomon was not only wise at earning material riches but also at earning eternal riches.” All the glory to our Lord Jesus Christ! God bless you Milton Goh for such a wonderful book!" - Nitta Nierra from Belgium

Testimonial about Milton's writing:

"Milton Goh my brother, your insight on Grace has set me free from 20 yrs of addiction.

I was a 7 time felon but by the GRACE of God I am now an ordained minister.

Here is some of my story: I was saved in Dec 2016 and started evangelizing in July of 2017 as soon as I was released.

My ministry has led over 800 to Jesus. I go to jails, rehabs, homeless shelters plus numerous churches!

Your notes and sermons allowed me to find rest in Jesus. I was getting tired trying to perform what I thought God needed from me.

You have made me realize it's 100% the CROSS and now I go constantly for Jesus but never get tired.

Thanks for your wisdom and love for Jesus. May God bless you and your family!"

How to Step into your God-Given Calling

Passage of the Day:
“Jesse said to David his son, “Now take for your brothers an ephah of this parched grain, and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp to your brothers; and bring these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand, and see how your brothers are doing, and bring back news.”” (1 Samuel 17:17-18 WEB)

I think we can probably all agree that David’s calling was to become the king of Israel.
However his journey to the throne did not happen instantaneously, but was a turbulent, drawn-out process.

Today I want to focus on the beginning of his journey. Prophet Samuel had anointed David as king in replacement of Saul.

By God’s sovereign will, the soon-to-be warring armies of Israel and the forces of the Philistines encamped in the region of Judah, where David lived.

“Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle; and they were gathered together at Socoh, which belongs to Judah, and encamped between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephesdammim.” (1 Samuel 17:1 WEB)

When God has a plan for you, He will even orchestrate world events to create an opportunity for you.

As we can see in the passage of the day, God created an opening for David by leading Jesse to send him into the battlefield to deliver a “lunchbox” to his brothers and the soldiers. He was tasked to be a humble delivery-boy.

Maybe you’re feeling like God has prepared you sufficiently and you’re raring to serve the Lord in a grand way.
“Lord, let me start a revival leading to millions of salvations. I will stand on a huge stage and evangelize for you!”, you might be thinking.
Or, “Lord, I’m ready for the next level of success. Prosper me and make me a millionaire! I will be generous and plant many new churches, halfway houses, and orphanages for You!”.

What if the Lord wants to kickstart your calling by starting small?
Can you put aside your ideals of grandeur, humble yourself like David and be a delivery-boy?
Don’t miss out on becoming king just because serving your brothers with a package of food is something beneath you - in fact, kings are anointed to serve the people, not to be served.
Thus says the Lord:

“Indeed, who despises the day of small things?...”” (Zechariah 4:10)

“Though your beginning was small, yet your latter end would greatly increase.” (Job 8:7 WEB)

Don’t get me wrong, David wasn’t tasked with a menial job because he wasn’t ready. No, he was.
He had prior training and preparation from the Lord when he killed the lion and the bear.
David was able to kill a Philistine giant because the Lord had already taught him how to place all his confidence in Him, not in his own strength.
All the men of Israel were fearful because they were looking at their enemies and at themselves, but David looked to the Lord.

“David said to Saul, “Your servant was keeping his father’s sheep; and when a lion or a bear came, and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after him, and struck him, and rescued it out of his mouth. When he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and struck him, and killed him. Your servant struck both the lion and the bear. This uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, since he has defied the armies of the living God.” David said, “Yahweh who delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go! Yahweh will be with you.”” (1 Samuel 17:34-37 WEB)

Before the Lord uses you for your calling, you will undergo a process of training and preparation just like David, where He will teach you how to trust in Him.
He won’t use you out of the blue - there is an order to the way God does things.
He will be the Judge of when you’re ready. Trust in His timing, not your own.

You stepping into your calling may look different from how others are doing it. Trust and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit

Goliath is a picture of your demonic enemies - The ones you will drive out to further the manifestation of God’s kingdom on earth.
He bears the number of the beast 666 - his height was 6 cubits, his spearhead weighed 6 hundred shekels of iron, and he had 6 pieces of weapons and armor. That’s 666.

“A champion out of the camp of the Philistines named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span went out. He had a helmet of brass on his head, and he wore a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass. He had brass shin armor on his legs, and a brass javelin between his shoulders. The staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam; and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron. His shield bearer went before him... Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin; but I come to you in the name of Yahweh of Armies, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” (1 Samuel 17:4-7, 45 WEB)

When God uses you to fulfill your calling, it will be to destroy the works of the “Goliaths” in your way.
Don’t be in a hurry to get there. It will surely happen, but all in God’s time.

“Saul dressed David with his clothing. He put a helmet of brass on his head, and he clad him with a coat of mail. David strapped his sword on his clothing, and he tried to move; for he had not tested it. David said to Saul, “I can’t go with these; for I have not tested them.” Then David took them off. He took his staff in his hand, and chose for himself five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag which he had. His sling was in his hand; and he came near to the Philistine.” (1 Samuel 17:38-40 WEB)

The way God desires to use you may not be what others have in mind.
God can do a new thing through you, so just follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.
A helmet, coat of mail and a sword may not be suitable tools for you.
If David had tried to fight Goliath by copying Saul’s style, he would have lost.
You don’t necessarily have to imitate what others are doing unless the Holy Spirit leads you to do so.

“Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger burned against David, and he said, “Why have you come down? With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride, and the naughtiness of your heart; for you have come down that you might see the battle.” David said, “What have I now done? Is there not a cause?” He turned away from him toward another, and spoke like that again; and the people answered him again the same way.” (1 Samuel 17:28-30 WEB)

As you walk into your calling with baby steps, the people around you - even those closest to you - may misunderstand your intentions because they don’t know what the Lord is doing at the moment.
It’s like what happened between David and his older brother Eliab.

Maybe they never pictured you doing something so drastically different from your usual personality.
They think they know you so well and that it’s impossible for you to change suddenly.
Actually, just one touch from the Lord can flip everything around.
Like David, you can turn away from them and focus on what the Lord wants for you - don’t be discouraged by men.
God has a plan and they will understand in hindsight when you’re already taking big strides in your calling!

Prayer for the Day:
Dear Abba Father, as we walk into our callings, give us humble hearts to readily accept baby steps. We want it Your way, not ours. We trust in You to sufficiently prepare and train us, and when it’s the right time, we know the opportunity will come. Help us be aware of it. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!

16 December 2018 - How to Quickly Receive your Breakthrough - New Creation Church Sermon Notes - Pastor Mark Ng Sermon Notes

Praise and Worship songs performed:
  1. Hark the Herald Angels Sing - Charles Wesley
  2. What a Beautiful Name - Hillsong Worship
  3. Because You Love Me - New Creation Worship
  4. You Laid Aside Your Majesty - Noel Richards
  5. O Come O Come Emmanuel - John Mason Neale

This is a simple three-point sermon.

1) Know that Jesus has done it all.

We cannot base on outward appearances when we invite friends to church. We don’t know what they’re going through inside.

Focusing on your problems causes a lot of problems in your body.

Jesus who had no sin became sin for us. We took His place of blessing and He took our place of cursing.

Hell is a real place.

Matthew 25:31-46 - This describes the Final Judgment.
Grace is all about what God has done for us.
Under the new covenant of Grace, our part is to believe in Jesus.
The righteous are not conscious of their good works because they are focused on Jesus.
Unbelievers also do good deeds, but their own righteousness is like dirty rags before God.
We are saved for all eternity. This security gives us confidence in Christ.
When you walk with the Lord, He will not just bring you to the place of break-even. He will lead you to a place of no lack.
Jesus clothes us with white robes of righteousness so that we can enter into the presence of the King.
Focus on the Lord. He is your deliverance and the Source of your help.
Most of us take care of our bodily hygiene, but how many of us take care of our mental hygiene?
Many of our minds are cluttered with wrong believing.
As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.

““But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. Before him all the nations will be gathered, and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will tell those on his right hand, ‘Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger, and you took me in. I was naked, and you clothed me. I was sick, and you visited me. I was in prison, and you came to me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you; or thirsty, and give you a drink? When did we see you as a stranger, and take you in; or naked, and clothe you? When did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you?’ “The King will answer them, ‘Most certainly I tell you, because you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ Then he will say also to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry, and you didn’t give me food to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink; I was a stranger, and you didn’t take me in; naked, and you didn’t clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you didn’t visit me.’ “Then they will also answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and didn’t help you?’ “Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Most certainly I tell you, because you didn’t do it to one of the least of these, you didn’t do it to me.’ These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”” (Matthew 25:31-46 WEB)

Ephesians 2:5-6 - We are seated with Christ.

“even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with him, and made us to sit with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,” (Ephesians 2:5-6 WEB)

Colossians 3:1 - We are seated with Jesus at the right hand of God.

“If then you were raised together with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God.” (Colossians 3:1 WEB)

When you walk with the Lord, He will not just bring you to the place of break-even. He will lead you to a place of no lack.

2) Fix your eyes on Jesus as your righteousness.

Fish can swim in the deep sea without being crushed by the high pressure of the depths because their internal pressure is greater than the outer pressure.
All Scripture is God-breathed. We need to breathe the word of God - doing this builds our inner man and makes us resistant to the trials of life.

Fix your eyes on Jesus as your righteousness and all the things you need will be added to you.
Jesus told us to seek first the kingdom of God and HIS righteousness, not your righteousness.

If you want the power of God, it is through believing the Gospel - What Jesus has done for you.
In the Gospel, the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith. It’s about believing, not doing.

It’s not about knowing Grace, it’s about living Grace.

To be righteous, it’s all about believing in Jesus, not about your good works.
When you believe in Jesus, you will inherit all the blessings of God.

If you want to reign in life, your part is to humble yourself and keep receiving the abundance of Grace and the gift of righteousness in Christ Jesus.

Sin will not have dominion over you because you are not under the Law, but under Grace.

We are dead to the Law to be married to Jesus. We are joined in Spirit.
We bear fruit to God when we enjoy Jesus as our Husband.

When you keep turning to Jesus, you will become mentally brighter and brighter because Jesus is your Wisdom.

Israel is not special in and of itself - it is special because it is chosen by God.

Romans 12:1-2 - Put aside your self-efforts and rest in Jesus as your righteousness.

“Therefore I urge you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service. Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:1-2 WEB)

Parents, you need to rest in the Lord and hold on to His promises. Believe that the seed of the righteous are blessed.

The world will get darker and more morally depraved, but believers will shine brighter and brighter.
2019 is going to be brighter than 2018.

Your economy is in heaven. God is going to supply you - the world is not your provider.

We are just passing through this world. Heaven is our home.

As Pastor Prince prophesied, 2019 is going to bring an abundant rain of favor, peace and family blessings for you.

The pain you’re feeling because of the sickness in your body is not the truth.
The word of God is the truth - by His stripes, you are already healed.

A prophetic word: for those who regularly eat junk food at night and keep ordering products online, they’re actually under stress. They’re trying to find comfort in those things.

You are a new creation in Christ. How new of a creation are you? As Jesus is, so are you in this world.

If you’re facing emotional turmoil, be like Solomon who said he is like a child not knowing how to go in or come out. Humble yourself before God and He will deliver you.

Why did the children of Israel stay in slavery in Egypt for 400 years?
It’s because they were strong in themselves and thought they could handle the pain themselves.
It’s when they let go and cried out to the Lord that He saved them.

"This book is absolutely breathtaking. We don't work to be saved but were created to do good works. I am so energized and excited to know God values our works and we will be rewarded. This is all Glory to Jesus... I cant wait to throw my crowns at his feet and thank him for saving my life!" - Evangelist Michael Clark, USA

"Tremendous, powerful. I love Milton Goh's approach, not only for his emphasis on grace which is so powerful, but Milton's teaching also stands out for an abundance of Biblical wisdom when even many believers stray from key Biblical truths. The truths in this resonated deeply." - Donald Berg, USA

"I'm reading this book and loving it! The revelations of the Gospel truth shared and it's life applications are absolutely amazing! I give glory to the Lord Jesus for my dear brother Milton for this exceptional resource. I'm gonna keep feeding on its contents and believe God for supernatural breakthroughs as my mind is renewed in Christ!" - Terence from Tombel, Cameroon

"Hi Milton I really enjoyed the message! It really encouraged me. I have a hope that does not disappoint, a future of great rewards, built only on Jesus and nothing can give greater satisfaction than Jesus!" - Antoinette H. Keyser from South Africa

3) Receive Grace and be Grateful

II Corinthians 10:5 - Bring all your thoughts to the obedience of Christ - to Jesus as your righteousness.

“throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ;” (2 Corinthians10:5 WEB)

The greatest detox is not of your body but of your mind.

When Peter took his eyes off Jesus, he began to sink. However, Jesus never took His eyes off Peter.
Jesus is your perfect calm and Savior amidst the storm.

In the fourth watch of the night, Jesus was on a high mountain and looking at His disciples struggling in the storm.
It represents Jesus in heaven looking at us who are going through our trials on earth.
The three P’s: Priest, Providence, Presence.
In heaven, Jesus acts as our Priest with praying lips.
On earth, Jesus acts as the saving hand, the Providence that’s with us - Emmanuel, God with us.
We will experience the Presence of Jesus at the Rapture when He comes down from heaven, gives us perfect calm and brings us to heaven.

A person under Grace is always in a receiving mode. A happy person is not necessarily a grateful person.
A grateful person is sure to be a happy person.

Don’t pursue happiness. Pursue Jesus. When you seek Jesus, you will be grateful and the fruit of that is happiness.

Romans 1:20-21 - God created heaven and earth but His creation (mankind) did not acknowledge Him.

“For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse. Because, knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, neither gave thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened.” (Romans 1:20-21 WEB)

Complaining makes you remain in your trouble.
Learn to give thanks for the little that you have and God will multiply blessings back to you.

Don’t think that you already know. When you humble yourself, God can give you much more.
Familiarity is our biggest enemy. Knowing is not enough - is your life changed?
When you declare to God that you don’t know, He will fill your cup.

To find bad things to say about others is very easy, but to say good things is by Grace.

Praise and worship ploughs your heart so that it is ready to receive the word of God that will be preached.

Is it Wrong to be Rewards-Driven When Serving the Lord?

“By faith, Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to share ill treatment with God’s people, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a time; accounting the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he looked to the reward. By faith, he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.” (Hebrews 11:24-27 WEB)

There was a man sometime back who said to me that it’s wrong to seek the eternal rewards when serving God.
He called them “toys” and said that he would rather serve out of pure love for Jesus.

It sounds rather noble and pious of him, but what does the Bible say about eternal rewards and how we should view them in relation to serving the Lord?

The passage of the day shows Moses in the famous chapter in the epistle to the Hebrews featuring the ‘Heroes of Faith’.
The words of praise for Moses’ faith says that Moses looked to the reward.
He counted the eternal rewards as far more valuable than the temporal riches that he could enjoy in Egypt, and the Holy Spirit recorded it as a demonstration of his faith.

If it was wrong to serve the Lord and look forward to eternal rewards, then pray tell me why Moses is applauded for doing so?
If that were true, he should be condemned for serving God with an ulterior motive and not be celebrated for his faith.

Jesus Himself taught about eternal rewards, and told the listeners to lay up for themselves imperishable treasures in heaven instead of temporal treasures on earth.

““Don’t lay up treasures for yourselves on the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break through and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consume, and where thieves don’t break through and steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21 WEB)

If it were wrong to seek eternal rewards, then He wouldn’t have taught that. He would just say to focus on Him, love Him without desiring any reward other than Him.

Jesus Himself taught about eternal rewards, and told the listeners to lay up for themselves imperishable treasures in heaven instead of temporal treasures on earth.

Looking forward to eternal rewards gives us hope to persevere through fiery trials

I believe that knowing the truth about eternal rewards actually increases our faith in Jesus.
We wouldn’t know that God is good if there is no demonstration of His goodness.
Just saying that He is good with no eventual proof is just a title with no action to back it up.

Instead we know that God is good because He has promised to reward our faith, time, effort and service with valuable eternal rewards which will determine our standard of living and happiness in New Jerusalem in the future.

Knowing the sureness of our eternal rewards helps us to keep our faith alive especially when we’re walking through a valley of the shadow of death (trials and tribulations) on earth.
It helps us to stay encouraged and hopeful in the midst of severe persecution.

“Don’t be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.” (Galatians 6:7-9 WEB)

Let’s face it, this world can be a cold place where evil is done to us.
It is a reality that in some parts of the world, Christians are getting killed for their faith.
Looking forward to eternal rewards can give us the strength to persevere in overcoming evil with good, even in the face of great injustice done to us.

“Repay no one evil for evil. Respect what is honorable in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, “Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.” Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so, you will heap coals of fire on his head.” Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:17-21 WEB)

In Revelation 2 and 3, Jesus sends a message to each of the seven churches of Asia. In each one, He encourages the church to persevere in faith even in the midst of difficulty, and He promises a reward for them to look forward to.

The early church faced extreme persecution, not like our Christian walk today in the end times.
I believe that the rewards Jesus declared helped them to remain hopeful through the fiery trials.

““Behold, I come quickly. My reward is with me, to repay to each man according to his work.” (Revelation 22:12 WEB)

To us believers, Jesus promises rewards, not judgment.
When we live with the sure confidence that we will be rewarded for responding correctly in the trials we experience on earth, we will be able to live an overcoming life on earth.

Being eternity-focused doesn’t mean living like a beggar on earth.
Often when you live with the kingdom in mind and disdaining worldly riches, you will find that you will receive both eternal and temporal blessings.
Living a life of faith for Jesus isn’t a torturous one - it is filled with goodness and mercy!

“But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33 WEB)

Learning from Delilah: What the Traitorous Temptress Teaches us about Prayer

Passage of the Day:
“She said to him, “How can you say, ‘I love you,’ when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times, and have not told me where your great strength lies.” When she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, his soul was troubled to death. He told her all his heart, and said to her, “No razor has ever come on my head; for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother’s womb. If I am shaved, then my strength will go from me, and I will become weak, and be like any other man.”” (Judges 16:15-17 WEB)

When you saw the title of this devotional, you may have wondered, “What can I possibly learn from that evil, traitorous woman?”

If you really meditate on the text, you will realized that she did something worthy for us to emulate, except in a good way.

To give you a context about Delilah, she was a Philistine woman whom Samson (a judge who was anointed with great physical strength) fell in love with.

The lords (leaders) of the Philistines bribed her to find out the source of Samson’s great power.
Fueled by greed, Delilah proceeded to repeatedly ask Samson to tell her his best-kept secret.

In the passage of the day, we see Delilah nagging so much that Samson was annoyed to the point of death.
This woman knew how to “press-in” and “persist” - something that we need to apply when we pray.

What motivated Delilah to be so dedicated to her mission?
Her eyes were set on the reward that lay ahead of her.
She was promised a generous amount of silver in exchange for her betrayal.

“The lords of the Philistines came up to her, and said to her, “Entice him, and see in which his great strength lies, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him; and we will each give you eleven hundred pieces of silver.”” (Judges 16:5 WEB)

She trusted that the lords of the Philistines would fulfill their end of the bargain so much that she didn’t give up, even when Samson lied to her three times:
She had put in the effort to arrange three ambushes for Samson and they all turned out to be failures.
Delilah had great faith in her would-be rewarders.

When we pray, do we ask with unbelief in our hearts, or are we like Delilah, who had complete faith in the sureness of her reward?

The Bible says that we must believe that God will reward us when we seek Him - whether in prayer, in studying God’s word or in service to Him. That kind of faith pleases Him.

“Without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6 WEB)

Delilah bugging Samson for the answer she wanted reminds me of Jesus’ “Parable of the Widow and the Unrighteous Judge.

“He also spoke a parable to them that they must always pray, and not give up, saying, “There was a judge in a certain city who didn’t fear God, and didn’t respect man. A widow was in that city, and she often came to him, saying, ‘Defend me from my adversary!’ He wouldn’t for a while, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God, nor respect man, yet because this widow bothers me, I will defend her, or else she will wear me out by her continual coming.’” The Lord said, “Listen to what the unrighteous judge says. Won’t God avenge his chosen ones, who are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them? I tell you that he will avenge them quickly. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”” (Luke 18:1-8 WEB)

To draw a comparison, Delilah is like the widow and Samson is like the unrighteous judge.
By repeatedly coming to him with her request, Samson eventually gave her what she wanted.

If you study the parable carefully, Jesus said that God will quickly avenge the saints who are crying out not once a day, but “day and night”!
Pray and keep on praying - don’t give up until you see what you’re believing for.

Let’s learn from Delilah, to persist in asking for what we want because we have an awesomely good God who will speedily avenge us!

Why we have to persist in prayer

However if God is so good and willing to avenge us from injustice done to us by the devil, then why do we have to keep on crying out to Him?
Wouldn’t once be enough if He truly loves us?

We can find the comforting answer in the Book of Daniel.

“In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three whole weeks. I ate no pleasant bread, neither came meat nor wine into my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, until three whole weeks were fulfilled... He said to me, Daniel, you man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright; for am I now sent to you. When he had spoken this word to me, I stood trembling. Then he said to me, Don’t be afraid, Daniel; for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard: and I have come for your words’ sake. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; but, behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me: and I remained there with the kings of Persia. Now I have come to make you understand what shall happen to your people in the latter days; for the vision is yet for many days:” (Daniel 10:2-3, 11-14 WEB)

From the passage above, we see that Daniel faithfully prayed for what he wanted, yet the answer only came after 21 days.

The delay was caused by a principality: a high-level demon called “the prince of the kingdom of Persia” who fought against the archangel Gabriel to stop the answer from reaching Daniel.

The devil probably saw Daniel as a huge threat to his plans to destroy Israel so he sent a powerful demon to block the answer to Daniel's prayers.

Notice also that God sent Gabriel from the first day that Daniel started to pray.

When you pray, be conscious of the truth that your Heavenly Father hears it immediately and has already sent angels bearing your blessing.

If the answer delays, it’s because of demonic forces that are trying to block your blessings. There is spiritual warfare going on all the time around us - we just can't see it.

Imagine if Daniel stopped praying on the 20th day.
There probably wouldn’t be a righteous basis for Gabriel to come to him.
The devil and his demons know their rights and love to exploit legal loopholes in the spiritual realm.

Not all demons are as powerful as the prince of the kingdom of Persia. Your answer will probably manifest much faster if you persist in prayer.

We shouldn’t be legalistic about praying a fixed 21 days. The learning  point is to pray until the answer to your prayers manifests.

So let’s learn from Delilah, to persist in asking for what we want because we have an awesomely good God who will speedily avenge us!

Pinterest Pinnable Image. When we pray, do we ask with unbelief in our hearts, or are we like Delilah, who had complete faith in the sureness of her reward? This woman knew how to “press-in” and “persist” - something that we need to apply when we pray.

9 December 2018 - Change your Heart, Change Your Life - New Creation Church Sermon Notes - Reverend Col Stringer Sermon Notes

Praise and Worship songs performed:
  1. Come Let Us Adore Him
  2. Anthem of Grace - New Creation Worship
  3. Finished - New Creation Worship
  4. Jesus Shall Take the Highest Honour - Chris Bowater

Rev. Col Stringer has a new book: “From Stressed to Blessed”. Out of all the books he has published, "On Eagles Wings" is still his personal favorite.

2 Timothy 3:1-2 - The word “grievous” is only used twice in the Bible. It means ragingly insane.
The other time is when Jesus was speaking to the Gaderene demoniac.

“But know this, that in the last days, grievous times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,” (2 Timothy 3:1-2 WEB)

We live in an self-obsessed world. Everything is about “I”. The solution to your problems isn't to go on vacation. When you go overseas, you still bring your biggest problem with you: yourself.

It’s not just about what you eat but what eats you. Stress is a dangerous toxin in your life.

Hebrews 4:1-3 - We all want to experience God’s rest.
Those who believe enter the rest of God.
What you believe in your heart will determine where you spend eternity.
You have a choice of what you believe. God has set before us blessing and cursing.
God simply wants us to believe.

“Let us fear therefore, lest perhaps anyone of you should seem to have come short of a promise of entering into his rest. For indeed we have had good news preached to us, even as they also did, but the word they heard didn’t profit them, because it wasn’t mixed with faith by those who heard. For we who have believed do enter into that rest, even as he has said, “As I swore in my wrath, they will not enter into my rest”; although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.” (Hebrews 4:1-3 WEB)

Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
What we believe in our hearts will eventually come out in the words we speak.

Smith Wigglesworth was a man of faith who shook the world. He even raised people from the dead.
The only book he read in his life was the Bible. He didn’t even read the newspaper.
His secret was that he believed God’s word.
Once, he prayed for a man with a cancerous growth on his face and the tumor just dropped right off onto a plate. This man walked in faith and believed God's word!

I highly recommend that you get Smith Wigglesworth's books. I was so inspired by his faith. Get them here.

If you don't like your life, change your heart!

Mark 6:1-6 - Jesus did nothing wrong but they were offended at Him.
Unbelief blocks the power of God from manifesting in our lives.
Rev. Col Stringer believes that signs and wonders are for unbelievers. Believers should just believe the word of God without needing proof first.

“He went out from there. He came into his own country, and his disciples followed him. When the Sabbath had come, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many hearing him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things?” and, “What is the wisdom that is given to this man, that such mighty works come about by his hands? Isn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judah, and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” They were offended at him. Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own relatives, and in his own house.” He could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people, and healed them. He marveled because of their unbelief. He went around the villages teaching.” (Mark 6:1-6 WEB)

Proverbs 23:7 - The language of the heart isn’t words - It’s images. The word of God gives us pictures to keep in our hearts.
If you don’t like your circumstances, change the images in your heart.

“for as he thinks about the cost, so he is. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you.” (Proverbs 23:7 WEB)

Proverbs 4:20-22 - Worrying is the opposite of Meditation.
Meditate on the word of God - it will be health to all your flesh.
Let the word of God play all night even while you sleep. Your spirit doesn’t sleep.

“My son, attend to my words. Turn your ear to my sayings. Let them not depart from your eyes. Keep them in the center of your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and health to their whole body.” (Proverbs 4:20-22 WEB)

Joshua 1:8 - When you focus on the finished work of Jesus, you are changing the images in your heart and thereby changing your life.
The cross makes all the difference - We are complete in Jesus.
We have to believe in Jesus first to experience the benefits of that salvation.

“This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.” (Joshua 1:8 WEB)

You are already healed. You must receive a revelation of what has already been done for you at the cross.

Psalm 1:1-3 - It doesn’t say meditate 10 minutes a day. It’s day and night. Your health and provisions will prosper.
Meditate on the finished work of Christ - it’s done. Jesus did it.

“Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand on the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in Yahweh’s law. On his law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water, that produces its fruit in its season, whose leaf also does not wither. Whatever he does shall prosper.” (Psalms 1:1-3 WEB)

Jews have a rite of passage from boyhood to manhood at 13 years old called “Bar Mitzvah”. It doesn’t matter whether other see him as a man. It only matters the way he sees himself.

Ephesians 1:15-19 - We need the spirit of wisdom and revelation.

“For this cause I also, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which is among you, and the love which you have toward all the saints, don’t cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him; having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of his calling, and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to that working of the strength of his might” (Ephesians 1:15-19 WEB)

The greatest revelation you will ever have is knowing how much God loves you.
Love is the greatest power in the universe - love never fails.

I John 4:7- 8 - God doesn’t just have love. He is Love. John encourages us to press in deeper to the love of God.
This passage is not to condemn us but to inspire us.

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves has been born of God, and knows God. He who doesn’t love doesn’t know God, for God is love.” (1 John4:7-8 WEB)

Hebrews 4:3-12 - Words convey images into our hearts. If you don’t like your life, change your heart.

“For we who have believed do enter into that rest, even as he has said, “As I swore in my wrath, they will not enter into my rest”; although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For he has said this somewhere about the seventh day, “God rested on the seventh day from all his works”; and in this place again, “They will not enter into my rest.” Seeing therefore it remains that some should enter therein, and they to whom the good news was before preached failed to enter in because of disobedience, he again defines a certain day, today, saying through David so long a time afterward (just as has been said), “Today if you will hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts.” For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken afterward of another day. There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For he who has entered into his rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from his. Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience. For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:3-12 WEB)

5 Biblical Ways to Manage Money In Marriage and Have a Happier Life
About the Author
Jennifer Glenn left her corporate finance job to pursue her true passion of writing. She now prefers to spend more time with her three beautiful children. Read a great piece of her writing here at Blended Fams.

The Apostle Paul admonished his mentee Timothy about the grave danger of pursuing the trappings of wealth at the expense of his faith.

In 1 Timothy 6:10, Paul did not sugarcoat it - “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

A majority of divorced couples today cite financial issues as the main reason or at least a catalyst for their separation.

In most of these cases, it could be about financial impropriety by either spouse, a lack of open communication or even the frustration of unachieved goals - they are not on the same page when it comes to how to manage money in marriage.

Either way, it all goes back to the failure to acknowledge God’s sovereignty in all things, including finances. By placing Him at the center, you can be able to build a strong culture of financial management and consequently, a much stronger home.

1) Always communicate openly

A lack of proper communication (or its absence entirely) is always likely to cause a strain in any relationship, let alone in wedlock. Yet for married couples, this is even truer.

It may not always be possible to have a perfect model of communication, but it is crucial that either partner has the intention to always do things above board. It is important to speak about respective incomes and assets as well as personal preferences.

While it is not mandatory to have a joint account, it would help to discuss the pros and cons of such an arrangement, for example.

Another key aspect that should be shared openly is the expectations that either partner has, and those that are common between the two of you.

One of the greatest sources of frustration in marriage stems from diverse expectations between two people. If communicated, these can be managed and with goodwill, harmonized as much as possible.
If either or both partners fail to share them, it will almost certainly lead to strife down the road.

2) Set goals together

Marriage is about two people coming together and forming one infinitely stronger unit. This truth is maybe best articulated in Ecclesiastes 4:9, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor.”

It therefore beats all sense for two people to leave their families, cleave to one another, but fail to harmonize their life dreams and goals. When a couple share their dreams and pursue them together, it creates a strong bond for their marriage and averts the potential of misunderstanding.

In this digital age, there is a myriad of tools available to assist in setting financial goals and tracking progress and spending.
It all goes back to the failure to acknowledge God’s sovereignty in all things, including finances. By placing Him at the center, you can be able to build a strong culture of financial management and consequently, a much stronger home.

3) Come up with a plan

Faith without action is dead. As with any other area of life, it is important to set financial goals but it is even more important to create an implementation plan for these goals.

This should arguably be the easier part, given that the tougher conversations on aligning two separate life paths have already taken place.

This plan should involve things such as where and how to bank, decisions on savings and investments, whether and which financial advisors to engage and crucially, the family budget.

Budgeting helps to give the two of you a complete picture of what your cash flow looks like and allows you to prioritize wisely.

With a good budget, you are able to cut down on unnecessary costs and also to plan ahead. This is crucial not just in managing the money but in keeping the peace in the home.

Also Read: Learn How to Earn Money Online through Affiliate Marketing from the Million Dollar Blogger

4) Avoid unhealthy external influences

Sometimes the most toxic elements in a marriage come from outside the relationship. Friends, family and now even strangers on social media will always come up with opinions and ideas on how best you should manage your home.

These opinions may be coming from a place of genuine love and concern.  However, they are more often than not likely to be ignorant of the very intimate realities of life in your house. Taking on board every single comment or suggestion might actually be the most surefire way to strain your marriage.

Of course not everyone should be deemed persona non grata in your relationship. Close friends, your best couple, mentors and other people who offer spiritual oversight are some of those who in most cases can be counted on to offer balanced and objective views.

Books, teachings and other similar resources from trustworthy individuals and organizations can also provide great insight on how to manage financial issues in your marriage.

5) Always depend on God

When all is said and done, everything comes down to God. He is the architect of marriage and only He has the blueprint to success for every union.

We may give our best to our partner and our relationship, but the truth is that it really can never be enough.

After all, it is the nature of the fallen heart of man, as in Jeremiah 17:9, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?”.

God's good and perfect will can only find expression when we first submit our personal lives to Him. After that, we are to similarly submit our marriage itself - including how we manage money in marriage - to Him.

For many who have been able to sustain their marriages across a lifetime, they would all likely tell you the same thing; it is not by might, nor by power, but by the Spirit of God.

Apart from salvation and accepting Jesus Christ into one’s life, the choice to get married (and to whom) is the most important that anyone can make.

Once inside, there is no turning back. It takes hard work and determination to sustain the commitment made in marriage.

This means that both partners have to be deliberate in communicating openly, setting common goals and implementing them, keeping their intimate space sacred and always counting on God.

Pinterest Pinnable Image. God wants to be Lord in all areas of our lives, including how we manage money in marriage. Jesus can help you build a strong financial management culture at home. Let Him take over and you will live a happier life with Him in control!

2 December 2018 - The Power of a Life of Prayer - Pastor Lawrence Lim Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon Notes

Praise and Worship songs performed:

Joy to the World - George Frideric Handel
Good Good Father - Anthony Brown
I’m Held By Your Love - Integrity’s Hosanna Music
Build My Life - Brett Younker
When I Think Upon Christmas - Hillsong Worship
I Cast All My Cares Upon You
We are the Reason

We all love to receive gifts. The greatest gift we can ever receive is Jesus.

It’s more blessed to give to others (fellow humans) than to receive.

Prayerfully invite someone for the Christmas service. They already know you’re going to pressurize them anyway, so just do it!

It’s difficult to experience unanswered prayers. We need the Lord to help us move ahead from the disappointment.

Healing is the will of God. The Bible is the foundation of our beliefs.
Jesus is the expression of the will of God. Anyone who sees Jesus has seen the Father - Jesus is the exact representation of the Father. In seeing Jesus, you see God.

Jesus went about doing good, healing all who were oppressed by the devil.
From seeing Jesus in the Scriptures, we know that it’s God’s will for us to be healed.

It is God’s will for all of us to be healed and all of us to be blessed.

Our preaching must never be based on whether people will be disappointed or not. Our preaching must be based on the truth of God’s word.

Always double check what preachers say with God’s word. The greatest gift besides Jesus is that we have the Word of God.

It seems like God can only move when men pray. Without God, we cannot. Without us, God will not. There is a divine partnership between God and man. God’s will takes effect when we pray. There’s a place where we step in and keep on praying even when the things we see discourage or disappoint us.
Click this image to enjoy a special Christmas deal: Receive two new Christian resources on top of other rewards, when you pledge any amount on Patreon: "Beautiful, Healthy and Strong Like Jesus", and "My Curated List of Christmas Songs that Glorify Jesus Christ".

Keep pressing in with prayer

3 John 1:2 - The Apostle John prayed the following prayer for his beloved friend Gaius.
Why do we still pray for healing when we know that healing is God’s will?
It seems like God can only move when men pray.
Without God, we cannot. Without us, God will not. There is a divine partnership between God and man.
God’s will takes effect when we pray.
There’s a place where we step in and keep on praying even when the things we see discourage or disappoint us.

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers.” (3 John 1:2 WEB)

Luke 18:1-8 - This is one of Jesus’ parables. The unrighteous judge answered the widow’s plea for selfish reasons.
He knew that if he didn’t answer her, she would keep coming to him.
Even the unrighteous judge will answer, what more God who is the Righteous Judge?
We need to persevere in our prayers. There is power when we pray.

Acts 12:1-7 - Herod was an evil king. He tried to execute Peter as well.
However, continual prayer was provided for Peter.
It was not mentioned that the same was done for James.
The church had learnt from their mistake and prayed when Peter was arrested.
An angel delivered Peter from prison and Peter came out of the prison and went all the way back to the church.
There is tremendous power that is released when the church prays.
God will turn everything around when we pray.

“Now about that time, King Herod stretched out his hands to oppress some of the assembly. He killed James, the brother of John, with the sword. When he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This was during the days of unleavened bread. When he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of four soldiers each to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people after the Passover. Peter therefore was kept in the prison, but constant prayer was made by the assembly to God for him. The same night when Herod was about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains. Guards in front of the door kept the prison. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side, and woke him up, saying, “Stand up quickly!” His chains fell off from his hands.” (Acts 12:1-7 WEB)

James 5:16 - There is great power that is released when we pray.
We are already the righteousness of God in Christ.
We are justified by faith, not by our own obedience.
Because you are righteous in Christ, you prayer has great power.
We need to keep pressing in when we pray.
Prayer is conversation with God, communion and intimacy with God.
It is also worship. Prayer also takes place in the presence of God.

“Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective.” (James 5:16 WEB)

Testimonials about the contents of this book:

Even Jesus prayed often while He was on earth - His greatest miracles were preceded by time in prayer

Your heart is made with a desire for Jesus. Unbelievers don’t know that.
True satisfaction is found in Jesus. Only He fulfills. Your heart’s cry is for Him. It finds its rest in Him.
Prayer is not just about bringing your requests to God, but let’s not pretend to be super-spiritual.
God is perfectly fine with you bringing your requests to Him all the time.
Jesus asked us to ask God and we shall receive.
Bring your requests whether big or small.
Coming into God’s presence is much more than that though.
You will experience much more when you come to Him.
Prayer is a privilege.
It’s having a conversation with your Abba and your Best Friend.

Acts 9:36-41 - This passage records the greatest miracle of the early church in the Book of Acts - raising Dorcas back from the dead.

The Holy Spirit saw it fit to write that Peter prayed. Something good happened because he prayed.
Death may seem like the ultimate end, but when we pray, something happens - a dead situation can turn around for our good!
Our Lord is the Resurrection and the Life. Whatever situation you face today, you can press in and pray.
Pastor Lawrence believes that Peter prayed in tongues before Tabitha was raised from the dead.
We receive the power of God when we are baptized in the Holy Spirit.
This power allows the sick to be healed through us, and it backs up the Gospel with signs and wonders.
Let the miracles testify of the goodness of God.
How can the end time church be weaker and more powerless than the early church?
The church must be supernatural and powerful today. It is the church’s time to shine.

“Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which when translated, means Dorcas. This woman was full of good works and acts of mercy which she did. In those days, she became sick, and died. When they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room. As Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, imploring him not to delay in coming to them. Peter got up and went with them. When he had come, they brought him into the upper room. All the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and garments which Dorcas had made while she was with them. Peter sent them all out, and knelt down and prayed. Turning to the body, he said, “Tabitha, get up!” She opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up. He gave her his hand, and raised her up. Calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive.” (Acts 9:36-41 WEB)

Isaiah 38:1-5 - No one and nothing can stop you from praying for yourself. Let your faith arise.
Don’t subject yourself to the bad reports that you have received from the doctor.
God can turn your situation around. When you pray, good things will happen.
Prayer is not just for pastors. It’s for all believers.
Read William Cowper’s poem called “Exhortation to Prayer”.

“In those days was Hezekiah sick and near death. Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, came to him, and said to him, “Yahweh says, ‘Set your house in order, for you will die, and not live.’” Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to Yahweh, and said, “Remember now, Yahweh, I beg you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your sight.” Hezekiah wept bitterly. Then Yahweh’s word came to Isaiah, saying, “Go, and tell Hezekiah, ‘Yahweh says, the God of David your father, “I have heard your prayer. I have seen your tears. Behold, I will add fifteen years to your life.” (Isaiah 38:1-5 WEB)

Paul was a man of prayer. He prayed in tongues more than anyone. The apostles in the early church were praying people. Jesus was a Man of prayer. Why did He have to pray?
As much as He is God, He lived as a Man on earth.

Luke 6:17-19 - Before Jesus did something that was important in His ministry, He prayed all night.
Before the mighty miracles of healing that followed happened, Jesus prayed.

“He came down with them, and stood on a level place, with a crowd of his disciples, and a great number of the people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; as well as those who were troubled by unclean spirits, and they were being healed. All the multitude sought to touch him, for power came out of him and healed them all.” (Luke 6:17-19 WEB)

Mark 1:35 - Most of the time when we pray, it’s our solitary time with the Lord that no one else knows about.
Jesus praying here preceded the healing of the leper in Matthew 8.
That healing is significant because it was a sign of the Messiah.

“Early in the morning, while it was still dark, he rose up and went out, and departed into a deserted place, and prayed there.” (Mark 1:35 WEB)

Luke 9:28-29 - Jesus was transfigured as He was praying. The cause of His transfiguration was His prayer.
Jesus also prayed to multiply loaves and fishes.
Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Jesus prayed on the cross.
Every time Jesus did great miracles, it was preceded by His prayers to God.

“About eight days after these sayings, he took with him Peter, John, and James, and went up onto the mountain to pray. As he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became white and dazzling.” (Luke 9:28-29 WEB)

When we pray in tongues, people in another corner of the earth may get blessed.
One of a pastor’s biggest duties is to pray.
When you live a life of prayer, temptation loses its hold on you.
You will not lose when you pray.

I Peter 5:7 - Cast all your cares upon God for He cares for you. Step in and give Him all your worries.

“casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7 WEB)

25 November 2018 - Let the Grace of God Work in You - New Creation Church Guest Speaker Sermon Notes - Pastor Joshua McCauley (Redemption Church) Sermon Notes

Praise and Worship songs performed:
  1. Grace Revolution - New Creation Worship
  2. Anthem of Grace - New Creation Worship
  3. Wonderful (Grace Made Real) - New Creation Worship
  4. Build My Life - Housefires

Redemption Church’s outreach team brought Pastor Joseph Prince’s Book, “Grace Revolution” into maximum security prison and the feedback was so good from the prisoners.
It is most probably going to be sanctioned as an approved Bible Study book in all prisons in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Sometimes God withholds the full revelation of His call in your life because you will shrink back in fear if you’re not sufficiently prepared yet.

Gideon was the least of the least of the least, and he felt so unworthy that he argued with an angel about the legitimacy of God’s word to him. He was focusing on his own inadequacy and weaknesses.

God wants to release you into greater and into His heart for you.

Don’t just see where the Lord has taken you. See the size of where God wants to take you to.

Have a radical faith in Grace

Romans 1:16-17 - The power of God sits on the revelation of who Jesus is and what He has done. This allows us to access His power.
It takes our focus away from our own inadequacy and unworthiness.
Many people feel like they are not good enough and not powerful enough.
If you don’t allow the Grace of God to work in you, you cannot display the Grace of God to those around you.
Many Christians are so burdened by performance. They are not good testimonies of God’s goodness.
Unbelievers are not stupid: they look at an unhappy Christian and think “If even you can’t please God, then all the more I can’t do it. I have enough problems. I don’t need God on my case as well.”.
Evangelism is not about arguing scripture. It is about exposing the goodness of God in your life.
God wants us to have a radical faith in Grace.
Faith has to be aimed at something. It is a conduit to get to something. God wants us to access Grace with faith.

“For I am not ashamed of the Good News of Christ, for it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes; for the Jew first, and also for the Greek. For in it is revealed God’s righteousness from faith to faith. As it is written, “But the righteous shall live by faith.”” (Romans 1:16-17 WEB)

Genesis 22:1-14 - God doesn’t test you to show that you are good. It is to prove that He is good.
He wants to prove that He is better than you think.
The test is not a trapdoor whereby you get it wrong and God pulls the lever, allowing you to fall to your doom.
Abraham didn’t know what was going to happen, but he believed that he wouldn’t lose. He believed in God’s goodness.
God is not a burden giver but a burden remover.
Prayer is not about how sincere you pray or how long or loud you pray.
Prayer is a burden remover - you can cast your cares upon the Lord for God cares for you.
When you pray, the responsibility of provision is now positioned upon the Lord. When you pray, it is now up to God to give to us.
The devil has tricked us into making prayer a burden.
Trust in the goodness of God because in the end you will come out better off.
The weapons that were formed against you by the enemy will be that which God uses to prosper you and become an asset for you.
The Promise Land is not about surviving but about thriving.
Abraham didn’t say to Isaac that “you’re the lamb”.
When bring Jesus with you into the house of God, you bring the most pleasing sacrifice to God.
God has provided for you. You do not need to bring God anything. Everything that we can offer to God today, was first given from God.
The only thing that we can boast that is our own, is our sin. God wants you to cast that burden to Him so that He can give you His rest.
Children understand that their father’s role is to provide.
Many people have a problem with Grace because they want to be the ones to sacrifice and suffer for God. They want the glory.
It took a greater faith for Abraham to rely on the provision of the Lord than on himself.
God has provided a Lamb for us. His name is Jesus.

“After these things, God tested Abraham, and said to him, “Abraham!” He said, “Here I am.” He said, “Now take your son, your only son, whom you love, even Isaac, and go into the land of Moriah. Offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains which I will tell you of.” Abraham rose early in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son. He split the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went to the place of which God had told him. On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place far off. Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go yonder. We will worship, and come back to you.” Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. He took in his hand the fire and the knife. They both went together. Isaac spoke to Abraham his father, and said, “My father?” He said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Here is the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Abraham said, “God will provide himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they both went together. They came to the place which God had told him of. Abraham built the altar there, and laid the wood in order, bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar, on the wood. Abraham stretched out his hand, and took the knife to kill his son. Yahweh’s angel called to him out of the sky, and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” He said, “Here I am.” He said, “Don’t lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and saw that behind him was a ram caught in the thicket by his horns. Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering instead of his son. Abraham called the name of that place Yahweh Will Provide. As it is said to this day, “On Yahweh’s mountain, it will be provided.”” (Genesis 22:1-14 WEB)

Your failures qualify you to receive great Grace

Peter was the greatest failure of the twelve apostles of Christ. Judas betrayed Jesus but Peter denied Jesus. Peter committed a greater sin.
Peter boasted in himself and had faith in himself.
Peter denied Jesus three times and the last time he denied Jesus, he did it to a little girl. You can’t get more pathetic as an evangelist than that.
The Holy Spirit chose Peter, the greatest failure, to be used mightily by God.
After Jesus rose from the dead, the first name that’s mentioned is Peter.

Acts 3:1-9 - Peter experienced grace like no other disciple because he was the biggest failure.
In Acts 2, the people of Jerusalem mocked Peter but he stood up by the Grace of God and saw thousands saved.
Singapore needs the Grace of God. It doesn’t need science or money. To possess it, we just have to be in need of it.

“Peter and John were going up into the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. A certain man who was lame from his mother’s womb was being carried, whom they laid daily at the door of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask gifts for the needy of those who entered into the temple. Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive gifts for the needy. Peter, fastening his eyes on him, with John, said, “Look at us.” He listened to them, expecting to receive something from them. But Peter said, “I have no silver or gold, but what I have, that I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!” He took him by the right hand, and raised him up. Immediately his feet and his ankle bones received strength. Leaping up, he stood, and began to walk. He entered with them into the temple, walking, leaping, and praising God. All the people saw him walking and praising God.” (Acts 3:1-9 WEB)

Let the Grace of God work in you first and it will work through you second.

True love is when two parties choose each other. God has already chosen you. Now all of heaven is waiting for you to choose Him too.

Remember: have faith not in yourself, but in the Grace of God.

Black Friday Resources for Believers to Usher in a Bright 2019

From what I read, Black Friday originated in tragedy of a financial crisis but was later on retold and largely accepted as the start of the busy Christmas shopping season, starting the day after the US holiday of Thanksgiving.

"Black" because it was the day where the accounting ledgers of the stores in USA would turn from being "in the red" to "in the black" - from making a loss, to reaping a profit, due to the shopping frenzy over the Thanksgiving weekend.

I recently learnt from my friend who is a pastor that Thanksgiving is a day of giving thanks to God for all the blessings they experience that year, so it's a holiday I can relate with and love!

Since everyone is coming up with deals to reward their customers, I want to give some too and recommend these resources that I can personally vouch on!

"Sandcastles Don't Last Forever" Book

Experience a blessed 2019 by shifting from now-minded to eternity-minded!

Eternal rewards are important and are hardly focused on nowadays. Many people are just interested in how to accumulate earthly possessions in the here and now. Remember that salvation is a gift and cannot be earned. But eternal rewards are heaped up by doing good works in faith. Believers who sow many seeds of good works that will surely reap a plentiful harvest of eternal rewards.

“Don’t be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let’s do what is good toward all men, and especially toward those who are of the household of the faith.” (Galatians 6:7-10 WEB)

It is an encouragement to us to persevere and not give up in doing good for the Lord because there are surely rewards to be gained that we can enjoy for eternity.  If you prioritize God's kingdom daily and be eternity-minded, you will surely experience abundant blessings in this lifetime, and in eternity.  Living for the Lord is not painful - it is a fruitful journey where as you focus on Jesus and do His will through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, you’ll find many blessings along the way because you are unconsciously walking on the path of the righteous. As you seek the kingdom of God first and Jesus (God’s righteousness), all the earthly blessings will be added to you. You don’t even have to pursue them, for they will follow after you.

Learn lots more secrets about how to maximise your eternal rewards, fulfill your calling with your God-given gifts and enjoy a life worth living in my book "Sandcastles Don't Last Forever".

Testimonial about the Contents in this book:

"I really love how you took the pressure off us as teachers of the word. I was feeling pressure since we teach and preach. Thank God this was another masterpiece who freed me up to focus my love on Jesus." - Evangelist Michael Clark, USA

"Indeed, I have learned a lot by God's grace. The revelations that the Holy Spirit has ministered to you, and your sharing has made me to want to re-evaluate all my good works to God in order to maximize my eternal rewards. I am happy to know that I should work hard for God, according to the remarkable grace of God given to me. I am God's cultivated field!" - Nitta Nierra from Belgium

"Hi Milton I really enjoyed the message! It really encouraged me. I have a hope that does not disappoint, a future of great rewards, built only on Jesus and nothing can give greater satisfaction than Jesus!" - Antoinette H. Keyser from South Africa
