When I say I am excited for Lauro and Stephanie’s wedding that would be an understatement. Like Jen and I, these two have a passion and love for traveling. They are adventurous, fun, and totally get our style of thinking. They suggested a Glamis Sand Dunes Engagement Session and I couldn’t have been more happy. This was a place that we have wanted to shoot at for a long time, and because it’s about a 5 hour drive from LA with few hotels around, logistically it has been a challenge to get it done.
Los Angeles Engagement Session Destinations
These two wanted an epic engagement session, and their style was right up our alley. So my assistant Hunter and I took the long drive out to Glamis on a Friday afternoon to shoot this session. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect, and as we were pulling up to the location, I kept thinking how much the landscape reminded me of Disney’s Aladdin. To think that this is in our own backyard is crazy.
Jen and I have sought out some of the most marvelous international locations to photograph couples in, but when you think about it, California has some pretty beautiful places that we haven’t ever visited before.
Soon after the session I was already sending these two ideas for their post wedding shoot we do with our couples after the wedding in their wedding attire. I am looking forward to capturing their images at the Iconic Hummingbird Nest Ranch next September.
So you may have heard, 2019 is a year of transition for us. We will be taking on limited commissions in order to better serve our clients, which means that we will not be running any promotions for 2019 MAPhoto Wedding Collections starting in the new year.
BUT for a limited time, you can save $500 and lock in 2018 pricing for your MAPhoto wedding, prices will increase on January 1st.
We first had the opportunity to meet this lovely couple last year. Michael flew up to the Bay Area to photograph their engagement session in the Bay Area. We were booked when they had reached out to us on their wedding day already, so they opted to book us for a bridal session so that we could take some of our signature cinematic portraits for them. We were excited to see them again for this San Francisco Indian Wedding.
San Francisco is one of the premier locations for wedding photography. City Hall is iconic, and is often referred to as “The People’s Palace.” Shooting portraits at City Hall is easy.
Law Enforcement at the location allows for professional photography, however trying to avoid crowds can be a bit of a challenge. We love the way that these images turned out and cannot wait to see this lovely couple again!
So he asked, and you said YES! Now the wedding planning begins. If you are getting married in Los Angeles there are more than enough options to choose from to get married at. The truth is however, there are many venues that are beautiful but not as well known. Thankfully we have been able to visit some of the most unique places in Los Angeles to get married and have been able to photograph them all! Here are 4 of our favorite locations in Los Angeles to get married at that you probably have never heard of.
1. Newhall Mansion | Piru, CA
Located about 40 minutes north of Downtown Los Angeles, The Newhall Mansion sits nestled in a hillside overlooking the beautiful valley of Piru. The Mansion was owned by the Newhall Land Company until it was recently sold and converted into a wedding venue. The Mansion can accomodate up to 300 people, and features Victorian-era Architecture perfect for elegant or romantic weddings.
What makes the Newhall Mansion so different is that when you book it for your Los Angeles Wedding, you have access to the entire property for the weekend. This is perfect if you want to have friends or family stay with you before your big day.
The Newhall Mansion features a bridal suite with beautiful restoration hardware furniture, plenty of natural light, and separate rooms for your hair and makeup team.
What’s more, the guys can get ready in the stone-walled “tavern,” that has a kitchen, large screen television, and getting ready rooms for the boys.
Ceremonies can take place in the back or the front of the venue, and there are plenty of great places for pictures! The Mansion also includes an amazing day-of coordinator, and offers catering in-house to clients that book the venue for their wedding by a really incredible Chef!
Hummingbird Nest Ranch may be one of those venues that you have seen in movies or film, but did not know that it was actually a really amazing wedding venue. Located at the top of the hills just north of the San Fernando Valley, Hummingbird Nest Ranch features a gorgeous Villa as a wedding site, or a larger lakeside venue referred to as the “Sitting Bull”
Hummingbird Nest Ranch can accommodate up to 1000 guests, and has on-site villas for brides and grooms to get ready. Book early for this venue, as it typically can book over a year in advance for prime wedding dates!
I guarantee if you are a Los Angeles local that you have probably seen Malibu Rocky Oaks before. Driving up Kanan-Dume on the way to Pacific Coast Highway, sits this incredible vineyard winery at the top of what seems to be a mountain. What you may have not seen before is the breathtaking views at the top of the hill!
With it’s Tuscan-Inspired Villa, your wedding could be held overlooking the Santa Monica Mountains on what was designed to be a helipad. Boasting 37 acres of land, this is one of the most expansive, breathtaking views in all of Los Angeles to get married at! This venue is a bit on the higher side in terms of price, but that incredible view definitely may be worth the extra money to some couples!
4. Calamigos Ranch | Malibu, California
Calamigos Ranch is a popular wedding venue in Los Angeles, and for good reason. The venue actually boasts 4 different wedding venue sites, all equally beautiful. From waterfalls, to Ferris wheels and vintage merry-go-rounds, Calamigos Ranch is surly the perfect backdrop for wedding photos in Los Angeles. While the style of the venue naturally is better suited for those having a whimsical, vintage, or rustic style wedding, you really could dress the venue up to fit any theme. Being that there are 4 different ceremony sites, you really do have the ability to create something truly unique for you.
Rancho Las Lomas is a beautiful venue located in Orange County, California. If you are looking to have a wedding that has a bit of a natural, whimsical aesthetic, then you can’t go wrong choosing this venue. Located in the foothills of orange county, Rancho Las Lomas is surrounded by beautiful Sycamore Trees, and located on a beautiful estate. Whats more? Rancho Las Lomas also features a zoological garden with Zebra’s, and even a rare White Tiger. If you are looking for a garden type estate, this is a great one to take a look at!
Vibiana is a somewhat iconic location in Los Angeles. Originally build in 1876, Vibiana was the church site for the archdiocese of Los Angeles. In recent years however, the venue has been converted into a wedding venue, and really does offer one of the most beautiful venues in LA to get married at. With stunning lighting inside, and architecture that is European-esque, your wedding photos can only be amazing.
The venue features two sites for brides and grooms to get ready, and a garden area perfect for cocktail hour while they convert the interior from ceremony site to reception venue.
Vibiana is centrally located in Downtown Los Angeles, and is a quick walk away from iconic LA photography locations like The Walt Disney Concert Hall, The Millenium Biltmore, and The Doubletree Kyoto Gardens. The latter two which are also great LA Wedding Venues.
You can see some wedding photos from Vibiana Here
Overall as you can see, there are many locations in Los Angeles that you are able to get married at. Just don’t forget that you will want an awesome team of photographers to document your amazing day!
I have to start this blog by saying that this will be a long one. Lubna and Waqas are from Dallas, and they hired us to photograph their Southasian India wedding in Lake Louise, Canada. I had seen photos of Lake Louise online many times, but the true beauty of Alberta was not realized by us until about 20 minutes after we arrived at Calgary airport. As Destination Wedding Photographers in Los Angeles, we are used to photographing in tropical climates such as Hawaii or Mexico. And even though we have seen some of the most beautiful places in the world, like Iceland, we were not prepared for the awe and beauty we found here. Where the mountains meet the turquoise water of Lake Louise, Lubna and Waqas exchanged vows in a ceremony that we will never forget.
This was a three day wedding, and the details that we captured were stunning. From elegant Mehndi designs, to a beautiful reception designed by Lynn Fletcher Weddings, these were three days that we will never forget.
Lubna and Waqas are two of the nicest people we have ever met. They welcomed us into their amazing family for three days, which allowed us to capture the emotion of their story. From the first day of this wedding at the Canmore Opera House, to the last day of the reception at the top of the mountain, this was one of our favorite weddings to date.
Now I will circle back by telling you here that this is a long blog post, around 200 images, but I promise it’s worth scrolling to the end.
We photographed this awesome wedding with two amazing people. We seem to continuously get amazing clients in our studio and I am not sure how we are so lucky. We are really looking forward to their wedding.
This destination wedding was one to be remembered. When we arrived, Jen and I realized that Avery and Jilliene were having their wedding reception at the same place that we had stayed on our first time traveling together, however the name of the hotel was different now. Cancun has always been a beautiful venue for destination weddings. Our couple had a beautiful ceremony on the beach, and then capped off the night with a stunning display of fireworks. The next day however was even more fun. In typical MAPhoto fashion, we found the need to improvise when we were denied a permit to photograph at Chichen Itza. Thankfully we had a plan and were able to travel to a beautiful Cenote (sinkhole) that seemed to be used as an ancient amphitheater. Let me be the first to tell you that of all the places that we have photographed, this was likely the most unique. The location featured a platform in the middle of crystal blue groundwater that served as a perfect location for stunning photos. In addition, the humid nature of the Yucatan allowed for the lighting we use to give a soft glow to all of the portraits we took. It was a long day, but one that we will remember forever.
