This sale is massive and can therefore feel a bit overwhelming—not to mention time consuming—so below, I’ve short-listed my favorite strategies and top picks for getting in and out of this sale feeling accomplished, triumphant, and also maybe like you need a new storage system of some kind. But we’ll solve for that later. Right now, we shop.

1
Invest In Your Most-Worn Items

When we think of the essentials, we often think of things we wear out until they develop holes and then toss. But when you think about it, why shouldn’t the items we wear every day be really, really good quality? The clothes you live in should be your most trustworthy, you want to be able to rely on them, always. Now’s the time to upgrade the items you live in. Classic dresses, your go-to jeans, the best pair of pajamas on the planet, or essential blazers that can top anything—this stuff is important, and it’s majorly marked down.

2
Trends On Sale

Even someone enamoured with classic style can appreciate a good trend moment every now and then (how pretty is this dress?!). The smart time to try out a trend that’s caught your eye lately is when it goes on sale, but the thing about trends is that they rarely go on sale while they’re still trendy. Not true with the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Do you see now why I’m obsessed?

3
Keep An Eye On Accessories

Amid all the shopping for fall clothes and trends and whathaveyou, it’s easy to forget that there’s kind of an endless supply of accessories on sale to browse, too. It’s tough to go an entire summer without losing a great pair of sunglasses to the backseat of an Uber. Find your new favorites, along with a few fun accessories to refresh the essential items you stack and wear always (see tip #1).

4
Beauty. Get Into It.

The beauty section this year might be my favorite category, and that’s saying a LOT.  This is a spectacular time to scoop up beauty products that have had your eye for awhile but kind of scare you with sticker shock. But it’s also exactly the time of year that you should score your absolute essential products for skincare, makeuphair, and body. What better time to replenish your supplies?! Stop scraping the bottom of your face cream hoping it will self-regenerate. Just grab a new one on sale (or five) and feel really smart about your life decisions.

5
Decor & Gifts—Don’t Skip ‘Em

The “gift closet” or “gift drawer” if you live in New York, tends to run a little low around this time of year. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is such a smart time to grab easy, always-pleasing gifts for hostesses, teachers, basically anyone who appreciates a good candleserving dish, or the single greatest throw blanket ever created (YOU MUST OWN THIS). And, if there are any items around your home or kitchen that are looking a little in need of an upgrade, dive into the decor section and remind yourself that the things we use all the time should be the things we love.

6
Baby Stuff… Because That’s A Thing I Think About Now

Yeah so… I have someone else to shop this sale for now I guess? Because you know, I didn’t have my hands full enough getting absolutely everything I wanted and maybe like two things for Rich. In all seriousness, while baby clothes shopping has been nothing but fun so far, I have a feeling it’s also about to get really functional, too. Nordstrom has so much for babies and kids marked down (even this car seat and high chair I’ve registered for!), so it’s a really smart time to shop for essentials for the little ones, too.

Go forth my friends, and sale shop. Leave no cart full, leave no deal behind. You’re now informed of my strategies, I trust you to take it from here. Also I can’t chit-chat anymore I’m super busy adding to cart, bye!

ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS
1

I fully hear where you’re coming from with this one. When you find a brow solution that works for you, you’re committed for life. I, Mary, take thee, Anastasia.

Side note: this is also one of the few brands I’ve found whose lighter shades for blondes don’t look orange or golden.  Anastasia, you get me and I thank you.

BENEFIT COSMETICS
2

Similarly, finding the right bronzer for your skin tone that has great blendability (and doesn’t make you look orange) is like finding a needle in a stack of Sephora samples, so I wasn’t shocked to see this fan favorite bronzer here. Never leave us, darling Hoola.

GLOSSIER
3

I feel like Anastasia and Glossier are the Coke and Pepsi of the brow game, and I’m here for it. Maybe because this product is so new and so beloved, we won’t have quite the worries about discontinuation? One can hope.

4

Color me not shocked that this Laura Mercier setting powder made the list. This brand is like the olive oil of our beauty collections. High quality, necessary for daily life, and used to the last drop.  Except that metaphor is actually terrible because this product specifically also combats oil.  BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN, GUYS.

5

Not only did tons of you say this is your ride-or-die, but you also indicated that you’re particularly addicted to the shade Mehr.  See, when we get into specific shades, that’s when panic really sets in. This was by far your favorite shade of Mac’s beloved matte lipstick, so stock up, ladies—it can’t hurt. Living without it however, sounds painful.

6

Similar situation here. Because, can you imagine the Sephora stampede if something were to happen to it?! I truly have nightmares about the Nars Powermatte being discontinued (especially in shade Star Woman or Under My Thumb).  It lasts forever, doesn’t dry out your lips and, quite simply, can never leave my vanity.

7

Here’s an interesting one that I wasn’t expecting. Although, it’s officially new sandals season so I don’t know why I’m surprised. This magic stick helps prevent all kinds of blistering and chafing, and is a true miracle in the summer months.  Keep one in every purse.  If Johnson and Johnson ever discontinue this, I may have to go barefoot.

8

Agreed, friends, totally agreed. The perfect CC cream is absolutely priceless when it’s time for your warm weather makeup routine, and this one is consistently rated SO VERY HIGHLY. I’m honestly blown away by the number of people who sing its praises.  This IT Cosmetics CC Cream a foundation, SPF 50+ physical sunscreen, brightening color corrector, hydrating serum, primer, concealer, and moisturizing day cream all in one. Hoard, hoard, hoard.

9

I too have strong feelings about my favorite mane manager, and I know this oldie-but-goodie is seriously beloved. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, you know? Also, do you think they sell it by the case?

10

I have been dying to try this product after seeing its ratings! (Also its price tag.) According to you (and its glowing Sephora reviews) this product not only evens skin tone, but also packs a seriously moisturizing punch. How many BB creams is too many BB creams to own when you only have like… technically one face?

11

You never need to justify your skincare obsessions to me. Go forth, my friends, and moisturize.  While you’re at it, reap the benefits of anti-aging antioxidants and broad spectrum SPF of this amazing Estee Lauder day cream.  This one is a cult-favorite for a reason.

12

Did we just become best friends? If anything had the capacity to knock my favorite Make Up For Ever HD foundation off its throne, it would be this one.  Just take a look at those 280K Sephora loves. The Armani Luminous Silk foundation has a super natural, luminous finish and is buildable, yet lightweight.

1. Summer Wedding

L’AGENCE

Cameron Polka Dot Shirtdress (also love THIS and THIS polka dot dress)

LELE SADOUGHI

Imitation Pearl Headband (affordable options HERE, HERE and HERE)

NINE WEST

VALENTINO GARAVANI

For a summer wedding, style a shirtdress as I’ve done in the photos today, dressing it up (way up) with accessories. Gold sandals, blingy statement earrings (bonus points if they’re of the heart variety for a wedding because LOVE YOU GUYS), a pearl headband, and a gold statement belt all contribute to the overall effect with a chic silk maxi dress at the center. If you’re very over the bare-shoulder wedding guest dress that requires a shawl of some kind, I highly encourage you to explore the shirtdress this summer. Also, when styling it this way, you almost forget that it’s technically a “shirtdress,” you know?

2. Pool Party

L’AGENCE

Cameron Polka Dot Shirtdress (also love THIS and THIS polka dot dress)

TORY BURCH

Did you know shirtdresses function as cover-ups? Well they do, and they’re super cute while they’re at it. It does help when you create an incredibly fun nautical theme for yourself (thank you Nordstrom for making my ahoy-chic dreams come true). I of course will also be singing the praises of the open, duster-style shirtdress as it is highly bump friendly—bless. Can we also talk about how cute this bag is? Like just for a second?

Founded in 2010 and known for partnering with ethical factories around the globe, Everlane is essentially your dream go-to brand. At amazing price points, they cover everything: head-to-toe closet staples (that don’t look basic), gorgeous and highly functional accessories (*cough* THESE SHOES YOU GUYS *cough*), and everything in between—all in a plethora of gorgeous colors.

What a great word, plethora.

I recently took this entirely Everlane look for a spin and I’m now making a beeline back to their new arrivals for all of my wear-everyday items for summer. Here, I’m wearing the Japanese GoWeave Sleeveless Wrap Dress, which comes in four colors and is just $100. It’s made of a drapey, wrinkle-resistant fabric and is absolutely ideal for nonstop work days. It’s very bump friendly, but I appreciate knowing that I’ll be able to wear it seamlessly post-bump as well. I also like topping it with the brand’s denim jacket, because you know how A/C can get. It’s got the perfect slightly oversized silhouette and such good structure—it’s really the only goes-with-everything jacket you need to pack in your weekend beach bag when temperatures start to climb. Anything else feels silly to carry around. And because the only thing I love more than a good flat is a good sling-back flat in a STUNNING SILHOUETTE that comes in five colors, I’ve opted for the Editor Slingback which will quickly become your workday go-to shoe all summer.  Please take a moment to admire the daintiness of the heel strap and that gorgeous squared vamp.  So flattering, I might need to go back for this version.

A word on this tote: I love this bag. It is going to get you everywhere this summer, from road trips to park picnics, given its perfect structure that won’t flop over at every opportunity. The fact that it’s open for easy access is actually a huge benefit during summertime activities when you need to be able to quickly and easily get essentials (towels, beach reads, bottle openers, you name it!) in and out without unzipping or unflapping a more complicated tote bag. It comes in seven (yep, seven) colors and at $175 for quality Italian leather you really can’t beat it.

If your closet is less prepared for warm weather than you want it to be, the style shortcut is Everlane. Everything you need for your day-to-day, ethically created, versatile, affordable, high quality and simply so stylish. It’s getting warm out there—let’s dress like it.

Thanks to Everlane and ShopStyle for partnering on this post!
