Before we dive into the deeply intriguing world of story-based games, let’s first take a look a little statistic. According to Forbes, Avengers: End Game has a total box office collection of $2.781 billion while Avatar has $2.788 billion. However, last year, Doug Creutz, an analyst for Cowen said that the legendary GTA 5 has sold over 90 million total copies, resulting in a total profit of, wait for it, $6 billion! If this simple statistic is taken into consideration, GTA 5 could very well be the best entertainment product of all time, apparently. GTA 5, along with other recent releases like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Last of Us have forever itched a deep memory in the hearts of gaming fans all around the world. In light of this, we thought of compiling a list of some of the most eagerly anticipated action-adventure and role-playing games to be released in the near future –
1. CyberPunk 2077
CyberPunk 2077 is a role-playing game (RPG) game set in the corrupt and technology advanced year of 2077. Gamers will get a chance to play V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant which is the key to immortality. Also, Keanu Reeves is a part of the game and will play a rockstar turned vigilante called Johnny Silverhand. The game is set to release on April 16, 2020.
2. Last of Us 2
After the success of Last of Us, Sony is slated to bring a second part of the hugely popular, Playstation-exclusive game soon. As of now, there isn’t an official release date and the game is expected to come last year. With Ellie all grown up, one can expect Last of Us 2 to be an even more immersive than the first one.
3. Ghost of Tsushima
(Image: Sucker Punch Productions)
For those who love a good a glimpse of the past, Ghost of Tsushima will be set in the year 1274 and is expected to have some insane samurai-style action. In the trailer, the main character, Jin Sakai is engaged in a fight for his home as the Mongol Empire invades the Japanese island of Tsushima. The game is expected to release on August 30, 2019.
4. Death Stranding
With actors like Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen, Death Stranding is sure to be an intriguing open-world game with elements like stealth and shooting. The game is also expected to have a heavy dose of surrealism. The release date for Death Stranding is set for November 8, 2019.
5. GTA 6
(Image: Rockstar Games)
We couldn’t really end the list without talking about the next Grand Theft Auto, could we? Although very little is known about GTA 6, it is expected not to be set in U.S.A this time around. Also, rumours suggest that the game will not be released until 2021. Since the last GTA was released more than five years ago, the wait for GTA 6 only seems to be getting longer.
Please do let us know if we missed out games you feel should’ve been a part of this list in the comments below!
Yep, you may need to sit down for this one – the pop culture phenomenon is making a comeback. According to media reports, the soon to be launched streaming service from the WarnerMedia stable, HBO Max has greenlighted 10 hourlong episodes of the series.
This new series will be written by Quantico creator Joshua Safran and will be based on the book by Cecily von Ziegesar. Deadline reports that the series will take place eight years after the original website closed down and will introduce a new generation of elite, fashionable New York teens.
Of course, a lot has changed since Blair and Serena had lunch on the steps of the MET – for one, we have social media coming into the picture where anyone with a mobile phone is a paparazzi.
The original series, of course, was a massive hit and impacted social life and fashion among young men and women at that time. It was cool, hip and sometimes scandalous. Okay, it was scandalous pretty much all the time.
This new series has some big shoes to fill. And they better be stylish.
After facing an embarrassing glitch with their foldable phone, Samsung is back at it with a new kind of foldable technology.
Samsung is in the process of developing augmented reality glasses based on a recently filed patent application that was reported by Patently Apple. The application submitted to the US Patent & Trademark Office shows a foldable pair of glasses. The glasses have thick frames which house the electronic components that will run the glasses.
The planning of the Samsung augmented reality glasses might have been kickstarted after Huawei’s announcement of their smartglasses with Gentle Monster. The design is still at its initial stage and can still undergo various changes, but the current design showcases a small screen on the glass and bears resemblance to retro sunglasses, something that has been quite the trend lately.
The in-display fingerprint sensor was one of the big innovations of 2018. Back in 2017 the iPhone X took the Face ID route with advanced facial recognition to unlock your phone. Quite a few brands chose the in-display fingerprint sensor in 2018 – a feature that was exclusive to pricier devices and one that created a better design language for smartphones. Hong Kong-based smartphone major Tecno’s decision to add this feature to a sub Rs 15,000 smartphone gives its flagship – the Phantom 9, an edge in this ultra-competitive price band. How does the rest of the device measure up?
EPL fans might know Tecno as one of the brand partners of Manchester City, a team that has enjoyed a great run recently. Tecno renewed this partnership as it unveiled the Phantom 9 in India, a key market for a brand that has its task cut out. Tecno gets its design right. The Aurora Lights-inspired colour palette swings from blue to purple in a gradient pattern. While it might be too flashy for some folks, the back looks premium for its price. A dew-drop notch is the distinct design element in a bezel-less display. Tecno pushes the screen: body ratio to almost 85% with this 6.4-inch display (1080 x 2340 pixels / 19.5:9 aspect ratio / 403 PPI). Colours are quite vivid even under harsh light.
A triple camera bump with an LED flash is the other standout design element. Tecno positions this as a feature-packed camera – one that lets you shoot everything from macro shots to wide-angle images. This rear shooter combines a 16MP primary lens that with a 2MP depth sensing lens and an 8MP wide-angle lens for ultra-wide images. It’s certainly quite versatile for a device at this price point. Image quality was reasonably good in ambient light, the wide-angle lens is certainly a nice to have feature. AI is a recurring theme in the device’s camera set-up including a 32MP selfie cam. Yes, you can max out on the beautification mode on those days when you quite don’t look your best. Tecno adds an interesting dual flashlight for those lowlight selfies. Then again, flash photography is not for all.
A MediaTek Helio P35 processor is at the heart of the Phantom 9. The device comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of Internal storage. There’s room for a Micro SD card in case you want to expand the storage. It’s enough firepower for the average user but it didn’t quite blaze through our AnTuTu benchmark test notching up a score of 86991. It didn’t stutter through regular tasks though. The camera is super responsive while the fingerprint sensor wasn’t sluggish too.
The Phantom 9 has a 3500 mAh battery under the hood. Again, this should work for most users. Tecno sticks with a Micro-USB charging slot, an odd choice in 2019 and one that doesn’t offer fast charging, a feature that is becoming common even with devices priced under Rs 20,000. Tecno opts to layer this device with its custom UI 0 HiOS 5.0. This is the company’s spin on Android 9.0 Pie. This is not a version that fans of pure-play Android will enjoy. There are some useful touches and we also like some of the screen transitions but it’s still too layered for our liking. There’s also a fair bit of bloatware out of the box.
The Tecno Phantom 9 has more hits than misses for its Rs 14,999 price point. The triple-cam is quite versatile while the in-display fingerprint reader and form factor are some of its strengths.
The Tecno Phantom 9 is priced at Rs 14,999 and is available in a Lapland Aurora shade.

Remember Dhadak? Yes, the Sairat remake from the Dharma Productions stable. While the chemistry between the two leads, Jahnvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter was satisfactorily pleasing, everything else was very meh.
Kapoor and Khatter did a good job in getting the dialect right and it is evident that they can dance well but ever since the trailer release, Twitter went on a bashing spree against the movie.
A major aspect that didn’t go down with Sairat fans is that the caste angle was completely overlooked. The entire premise of the Marathi film was to shatter caste barriers that put an end to so many budding romances in our society.
Anyway, this story is not about Dhadak or Sairat. According to Filmfare, the duo is all set to star opposite each other in a romantic thriller which will be produced by Dharma Productions and directed by Bejoy Nambiar.
While Kapoor has a bevvy of projects lined up – Takht, Rooh-Afza, Kargil Girl and Dostana 2 – Khatter has been finalised for Ali Abbas Zafar’s next movie starring Ananya Panday.
The Union Cabinet cleared the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, 2019, last week and has been the source of some major contention from the LGBTQ+ community and allies. This is because of the provisions in the bill that are believed to be harming the transgender community instead of empowering them.
Firstly, the Bill had a provision that criminalised begging. The Section 19 under chapter VIII (Offenses and Penalties) of the Bill earlier read as, “Whoever compels or entices a transgender person to indulge in the act of begging or other similar forms of forced or bonded labour other than any compulsory service for public purposes imposed by government” would be punished with imprisonment that could extend up to two years and a fine.
Following an outcry, the word begging was removed from the provision, a senior official from the Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry told PTI.
Again, the Bill had earlier mandated a ‘screening committee’ to prove transgender identity. People from the community stated that this would create a system where those who had undergone a sex reassignment surgery would be able to identify as male or female while the others wouldn’t be able to do the same.
Pinknews reports that this provision has also been struck out.

Today, ‘Veganism’ is creating ripples in the FASHION INDUSTRY. Genuine leather, which derives its hide from animals and lasts a lifetime, today, brands are incorporating vegan or ‘Faux’ leather, where, plastic base is used. Following that, even Pinatex (cellulose fiber extracted from pineapple leaves), cork (extracted from the bark of the cork oak tree) and Muskin (made from natural raw materials including the cap of special mushroom) are being incorporated by labels to brandish their choicest collections to the world. Sneak into the works of the trendsetters who are defining veganism through fashion in their own modish way.

‘Compassion for animals’ being the core value, Kanabis, which is derived from ‘Cannabis’ (marijuana), a lot of canvas is used in the preparation of all-women shoes, where, canvas derives itself from hemp (strain of the Cannabis sativa plant), which in turn is from marijuana. “As and when my eyes opened, I remember my deep-rooted fondness for animals. Having volunteered for PETA, I struggled to come across footwear which was free from animal cruelty and they failed to appeal me in a fashionable and sustainable way. It was that observance and experience, that gave birth to Kanabis,” says Devika Srimal, the founder of the vegan footwear, solely dedicated to women. Launched in April 2015, the fashionable and non-leather shoes can be grabbed through their website (https://www.kanabisfashion.com/) and at several brand stores and boutique in Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, and Jaipur.

Deriving its term from Italy, which means ‘Pair’, the brand has always believed in catering handcrafted shoes. What sets Paio apart is not the incorporation of faux leather and fabric in the making of all-women shoes and footwear, but, providing customers the opportunity to design their own shoes. “Since childhood, I have solely craved for SHOES. Footwear is a topic, I have been deeply passionate about and, that is when I decided to come up with a brand that would be different from the caterers of leather footwear and indulge in the providence of creations that is free of animal cruelty,” says Shweta Nimkar, footwear designer and flag bearer of the vegan brand. Having launched its first collection in 2016, the brand conducts its retailing through its website (https://paio.co/), online retail players like Shoppers Stop and Jabong.

Believing in ‘Fashion doesn’t need to bleed’, Aulive caters to crafting quality and cruelty-free products. Laptop sleeves, weekender bags, handbags, backpacks, luggage’s that are made out of vegan leather, it was this year, Aulive introduced bags made out of Pinatex, where, they strive to be at the forefront of ethical alternatives without compromising on quality. “Having been exposed to the modus operandi of the leather industry through YouTube videos when I was a teen, the in-depth detailing intrigued me, which led me to vow to never use any product made of leather. Having looked out for alternatives, where my findings couldn’t lead me to anything sustainable, that is when I started researching and began reading a lot. I came up with Aulive to stick to the philosophy of being a brand, that treated animals with reverence,” brandishes Wamika Shekhawat, the brain behind the vegan concept on bags, who co-founded along with her husband, Yashraj V.Rathor in July 2017, where, the retailing is conducted through their website (https://www.aulive.in/).

A portmanteau of the words, Art and Nature, the brand makes use of cork, hemp and nettle (strongest natural fibre from a herbaceous plant with jagged leaves and covered with stinging hair) to design their products. “Most non-leather alternatives are either synthetics (which aren’t sustainable) or they are products made with natural materials, which aren’t very fashionable in terms of design. The moment I discovered cork and learned more about the material and its benefits, there was no turning back,” says Shivani Patel, the mastermind behind providing the best of comforts to both men and women. Established in 2015, customers can get hold of notebooks, coin pouches, card cases, bags, compact wallets, and stationery through their website (https://myarture.com/) and Amazon.

Standing tall with ‘Quality without Cruelty’, Grain, treaded the path of adhering to Ahimsa (non-violence) leather, where, the handbags are made out of the hide of animals, only after it experiences death naturally. “Being a product designer, I began designing small leather goods, where, I wanted to create eco-friendly handbags after I witnessed my friends and people around purchase products made out of fur, leather, silk, etc. The zeal to make handbags adhering to the rules of AHIMSA being deeper, I waited for two good years, before coming up with GRAIN,” explains Avinash Bhalerao, the talent behind sticking to the concept of non-violence. Established in 2014 where one can spot in-depth information about the brand on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/grainindia2014/), Instagram (@grainindia), they are handcrafted, the raw materials are sourced from tanneries in Chennai, where, the leather sold is from cows, buffalos and sheep, who have not been put under the knife.
