Valid

Have you ever found yourself in the situation where you’ve thought you’ve come across a stroke of genius and thought of the most original idea for an invention that no ones ever done before? Excited with your idea, you immediately search it up online and find out that the product already exists – or multiple. From this point on, most would feel discouraged and scrap their idea under the sleuth that because something already exists, there’s no more need for another invention with the same function, but, when your product idea already exists, sometimes its worth still chasing after that idea.

Why Reinvent?

At first it may seem redundant. Why should you carry on with an invention that already exists? Well, first ask yourself, why did your idea for that invention occur? What situation did you find yourself in that brought that idea to you? If you see yourself constantly stuck in the same problem and can’t find or don’t have access to the solution to your problem, the opportunity for the creation of your invention is viable. If you see yourself in a problematic situation that is likely to occur to not only yourself, but for others as well, this gives even more reason why you should persist with reinventing your idea even if an invention like it already exists.

Reinvention, Redevelopment and Recreate

So, you decide to pursue reinventing your idea, but how can you market a product that is already like a product that is already on the shelves? Simple. Research, examine and observe your competitions product. More times than not, you can find huge amounts of reviews online that can give you an insight as to what current consumers of that product like and don’t like about that product. Feed off those negative replies and figure out, what already exists but can be fixed. Sometimes a successful product does not all have to be original, but rather, can be a product redevelopment of an idea that already exists. It is impossible to say that nothing can be improved – everything can be made better. Whether it is adding a new function, detail, simple or more convenient design, or changing the material, there are a lot of ways you can redevelop or reinvent an existing product and make it better. Remember, your product redevelopment should be a new solution to a problem, not just an item, if a simple or more efficient way to solve a problem exists, it is always valuable to go ahead and create it.

Location Matters

Finally, the last factor to think about when thinking about reinventing your idea is thinking about location. The concept of the ‘market’ is huge. One might discuss market but only be referring to a specific field, industry, or geographical location. If you’re an independent business or inventor, it’s unlikely that the product you create will immediately reach international success, but for what matters at the moment of your invention idea, is bringing your product to the people who need it the most – those who would encounter the  same problem you’ve faced. Therefore, if you live in a certain area, designing a product that is relevant and useful for the area, climate or geographical location that you live in, may not be profitable on a worldwide scale, however, can be extremely successful in certain areas where that problem is likely to exist, (For example, product made to clear snow are more likely to be extremely successful in countries like Canada that have long winters, as opposed to places like California or Texas). What is key in this situation is understanding where to market your idea the best.

Although Mako is a product development firm, we love to provide help for people’s ideas by giving them future prospects as to how well their product could survive in the market once fully finished and developed. For this reason, it is always one of our highest priorities to always keep our eyes on new trends and patterns within the marketing realm. A newer form of marketing, millennial product marketing is beginning to arise as younger generations begin to dominate consumer roles within markets.

Therefore, the way in which businesses and companies need to market their products change, not just because profit is beginning to increase amongst millennials, but because products that are generally popular to millennials are what soon become popular to older generations. Below are four new trends in marketing that should be taken into account for when product marketing in the new age of millennial consumers.

The Rise of Social Media and Other Channels

A lot of inventors believe that once they have a product that works, it will be an easy journey to market and sell their product to major investors. However, before any investor is willing to invest in a product, they want to be sure that the product will be profitable. It’s always important to have the products functional viability at its highest importance, but its also important to have strong proof that consumers are interested in purchasing your product. In the new age of millennial product marketing, the most viable way to do this is to have social media channels with high amounts of followers and engagements that show interest in your product.

This is important because millennials in todays society measure the viability and popularity of things by the success of numbers they see on social channels. With strong social accounts you’ll not only have a stronger connection to your target audiences, reach to newer audiences, but viability to investors that your product is worth investing in due to the high amounts of interest and engagements garnered from your social accounts.

Faster, More Stimulating Content

With all the new forms of marketing and social content going out on social media and other digital channels, a growing trend that has changed amongst consumer audiences is that audiences (especially millennials) need faster, constant, and more stimulating content to grab their attention amongst the heavy amounts of digital content that is created everyday.

Therefore, the best ways to accomplish this in millennial product marketing is to create content for your marketing channels that exemplify your products functionality in quick, creative, effective, and aesthetically pleasing ways to capture your audiences’ eyes. The best ways and forms to do this are to market your product through videos and graphic designs – also by exemplifying the practicality and functional benefits of using your product.

Influencers

Continuing from the last two points, a popular tactic used in social media specifically to advertise and market product is the concept of using influencers. Like celebrity endorsements, using social media content creators to market your products is a great way to reach younger and millennial audiences. Since these influential content creators typically have large amounts of followers, teaming up with an influencer to have them create content with your product and post onto their social channels can reach a large variety of audiences and fans who consume their content daily.

In millennial product marketing, using influencers rather than celebrities is important because influencers are not formally seen as celebrities, audiences feel like they can relate to them more, ergo, a product that an influential person that audiences can relate to is more likely to be more attractive for a person to want to have once they see a person they relate and trust is also using as well. Using influencers rather than celebrities are also much cheaper – which is ideal for start-ups and new businesses!

Memes and Comedy

A very new technique used in millennial product marketing is the concept of using ‘memes’ and comedy within product advertisements. Memes are defined as humorous images or videos shared on social media and the internet. Using humor in marketing is not a new concept but being caught up on what memes are trending in the online realm takes a lot of dedication seeing as how fast things move in the online world.

If you can incorporate popular and trending humor with your product marketing, your product and brand follow the relevancy of whatever is trending and becomes more relatable to audiences. This is a tricky tactic to use as some businesses want to keep their branding image more professional, but its important that audiences are more inclined to be interested in something that is similar to their interests and topics, which is why it is good to understand your target audience and market.

Do you remember when movies and media depicted that in the future, we would have flying cars and hoverboards? Although we still have a long way to go before flying cars and hoverboards become accessible and available to everyone, there have still been major trends and improvements in how transportation has evolved and changed over the past years. New innovations and technological developments in transportation are not only changing the way in which we are environmentally helping the planet, but also helping ourselves by making transportation more efficient and safer. Below are some the best innovations to come to transportation in the past few years!

The Shift from Fueled Cars to Electric

A major problem that has affected the planets environmental safety is how much vehicles such as cars rely on gas and fossil-fuels to run. For years environmental scientists have tried to find more efficient ways for people to get around such as suggesting public transport or bicycles, but with weather conditions and traffic, society still heavily relies on cars to get around. However, in 2003 a group of engineers under Tesla have created the first electric car in order to create a vehicle that is better, quicker and just as efficient as a regular car.

Tesla’s goals are to make the world stop relying on fossil fuels and more towards a zero-emission future. The first electric car launched in 2008 and found instant success in the popularity of car given its fast speed, low price and how much owners save on having to purchased fuel. Electric cars are all fueled by ‘electric chargers’, an emerging technological development in transportation that is similar to charging your phone.

Additionally, the whole car is connected to the internet, meaning it includes an in-car software to make it run. The user can easily stream, surf the web, and control the maintenance of the car all through the app and screen that is integrated into the inside of the car. It’s not a flying car, but its technical capabilities and efficiency to run for long and fast make it the most futuristic car on the market today!

Self-Driving Cars

Car companies have seen a major rise in competition over the past few years will all the competition surrounding electric cars and smart cars, however one of the most innovation features and inventions to be introduced into transportation is the ‘autopilot’ feature. A major technological development in transportation innovation, the concept of the autopilot allows the owners of the car to not need to physically drive or handle the wheel.

The innovation has garnered a lot of attention from the public, especially from those who are skeptical about trusting technology with their safety – however, studies show that human driven cars statistically kill at least 30 000 people each year, meaning that integrated a self driving features into cars can actually help keep people safe.

Numerous car companies have invested in integrating this innovation in car technology and have promised that there will be full self-driving cars by 2020. Car developers have planned on the future of interior car design by claiming that since self-driving cars wont have a need for a driver in the front seat, the interiors can be made so that there is more room for passengers, making it so that they can face each other, similar to a limousine.

The Drone Takeover

Drone technology has been huge in the past couple of years as tech fans have invested their money in trying out and purchasing their own personal drones. So far, most people know drones from military technology and devices ideally used to film landscapes from up above at a bird eye view, but since being integrated and redeveloped to be sold in commercial settings, drone innovation has become a new form of technological development in transportation.

Major corporations like Amazon and Google have strategically invested in the new technology, except by developing their own drones! Changing the way online shopping works, consumers don’t need to rely on delivery services from mailmen on their neighbourhood route, rather, now they can get deliveries straight from a drone coming to their house. This innovation will provide a faster and more efficient, personalized service to consumers who struggle with receiving broken or delayed packages from slow delivery services who incur traffic and weather problems.

In the product development process, one of the biggest factors to take in and understand, especially when you’re designing your idea or invention, is your target audience. Your target audience is the audience of who you plan on specifically marketing your product to. Understanding your target audience is one of the most important aspects in the business, longevity and success of your product idea of invention. It is without saying that during the brain storming and thought process that most inventors have when creating their idea of their product or invention in mind, they wonder how successful their product will turn out, and have high hopes that their product will reach mass commercial success, however, how much do you know about this ‘mass’ and is it really the target you’ll want to hit? Below are a few points to take into consideration when imagining and thinking about how understanding your target audience and can predict the future reception of your product.

Problem:

Everyone’s idea starts out with a problem. If you’ve never encountered a problem, then you wouldn’t have an idea for an invention to begin with. Take a step back and try to envision your problem out of a subjective lens. Does this problem in which your invention idea will solve happen occasionally? Is this a problem that occurs for many people? Did this problem occur because of a specific circumstance or because you were engaged in a certain activity? Asking yourself these questions can bring into scope a certain area in which your product invention will fall into. For example, if you encounter a problem whilst trying to manage productive and time with your children, maybe your product will be geared towards the parents ands kids’ audience. If your problem occurs whilst playing sports or being engaged in physical activity, then your product or invention will fall into the fitness or athlete audience. No matter which audience your product inevitably will fall into, understanding your target audience will give you a deeper insight as to how to market and strategically prepare or design your idea for the audience it is likely to be most profitable to.

Your vision:

The idea behind ‘the vision’ of an inventor’s product is essential. Many times, when observing successful inventors and creators, they usually come with a motivational quote or story that begins with this idea of their ‘vision’. Being successful isn’t a prerequisite for having a ‘vision’! As a matter of fact, the second you immerse yourself into the field of creation and invention, you’ve already given yourself the title of having that ‘vision.’ But how does having that vision relate to your audience? Simple. Once you know the vision you have for your product, you’ll be able to apply to it the future of where you want your product to end up. For example, let’s say you initially create a product that will be most profitable to the tech audience, from there using your vision, you can investigate the future of both where your audience will go and how your product will grow with them. Naturally, everyone has different interests and hobbies, so understanding your target audiences will help you take your product and integrate within their hobbies and lifestyle. If you figure that your product wont work with your audiences’ hobbies, then you’ve found an open area as to which your product can improve and grow. And thus, you create a future vision to not only the future of your product within its market or business, but also the future of your products design and development.

Market/Competition:

As inventors, it is always important that whilsts understanding your target audience and thinking of your product idea, you should take the time to also examine what is out in the market already! Take a good portion of your day researching your idea. Find out what is already out there and what exists already. From there, you’d like to examine products, inventions and ideas that are similar to the idea that you already have and see where they fit, not only in the market (in terms of their success and history), but as well as what that audience more likely uses. Taking the time to understand and figure out these important facts about your products idea and invention not only gives you valuable information about your competition and current business models and trends relevant to the market you’ll be entering, but also gives you a more solid and concrete idea about imagining how your product idea will fit or work into your target audiences current needs. From this you can find not only what is missing from what your audience currently has and needs, but also can improve and see ways in which your current idea can transform and develop. Understanding your competition can also give you a good idea about the best and worst ways in which you can market or sell your product once it is ready for entering the market.

As a product development firm, Mako gets very excited every time we hear news of new innovations and inventions that come out into the market. We get even more excited when we see the work of our past clients reach new achievements and successes after its release and enter into major markets. In recent news, our past client Bob Ginther, has had his invention the Tri-Plunger reach numerous feats of success and is doing well in sales as well as public recognition. Bob and his invention the ‘Tri-Plunger’ have recently been featured in numerous media outlets, with the most recent one being CBC!

Bob Ginthers, The Tri-Plunger

The article on Bob gives detail on Bob’s history, highlighting where he came from and how through the frustrations of his past work, found that he kept running into the same problem. Bob realized that a lot of his clients would fall into a trap that would entail that regular plungers are not doing what people need them to do – work efficiently and solve the plumbing problems that people incur. To solve this, Bob decided to take matters into his own hands and come to Mako with the idea of creating a new type of plunger that will effectively unplug toilets. From this idea Mako helped Bob design the concept of the Tri-Plunger, including creating several prototypes and into production and manufacturing – we also helped him and his invention idea by providing as ales sheet for him for this products marketing,

Success of the Tri-Plunger

The article continues by talking about the success of the Tri-Plunger since it’s release. Since his product has come out Bob so far has sold his project himself through his own personal business with success, he also has his product in co-op stores. Since the release of his invention, he has thus far only received positive feedback how the viability of his product – it actually works and solves the problem that people have with round plungers that don’t do their job! His next goals for his product are to get them being sold at major Co-ops such as Canadian Tires.

We are proud to see all the achievements and success Bob has made with his product invention and wish him the best of success for the future of his products business. We look forward to hearing more great news from the ‘Tri-Plunger’!

Creativity Why it’s important:

It’s no surprise that one of the most valuable inventor traits that every inventor should have is creativity. In a sense, there are no distinguishing differences between a creator and inventor because you are essentially doing the same thing – making something. Nonetheless, having creativity as an inventor is essential in being able to come out with new and exciting products or ideas that can help bring something new and needed to society. Without creativity, there would be no progress in how people could be more productive, or live more convenient lives.

How to develop creativity:

“Being” creative is more easily said than done. In a perfect world, all people would love to be considered creative and easily be able to solve solutions that society encounters with new and innovative ideas, however some find themselves stuck with trying to become or create something original, or doubt their own ideas. The best way to naturally grow creativity from within is to never doubt yourself, and to try finding inspiration from everything around you. Don’t limit yourself behind one strict idea or concept and try looking at things from different angles or perspectives. From there, you’ll be able to grow this valuable inventor trait and spring new ideas to innovate based off different outlooks, and from a positive mindset.

Check out some tips on how to be a more creative thinker here!

Open-mindedness Why it’s important:

Leading on from what was previously discussed on being creative, another valuable inventor trait is having open-mindedness. Being open-minded is key to being able to take in different perspectives and build new ideas. If you keep yourself limited to only one perspective you can only invent within one area, but the second you break through from this box, you allow yourself to accept new ideas of what could work or how your original ideas could be improved either from feedback from others, or from seeing how your invention could take place in contexts you haven’t originally thought of.

How to develop open-mindedness:

The best way to develop being open-minded is to let go from the fear of being wrong. One of the main reasons why open-mindedness is a valuable inventor trait is because people typically tend to keep themselves latched onto one area or outlook is because they are comfortable where they feel most confident in or where they feel they are correct in. Don’t be afraid to put yourself in a new space and learn from a new area and see what works and doesn’t work. Even if you if find out your original idea isn’t as great of an idea when put into a new context, you still gain insight and learn from your experiences, allowing yourself to grow and build even better ideas or inventions.

Flexibility Why it’s important:

Being flexible is not only a just a valuable inventor trait in order to become a great and effective inventor, but its also good for your own peace of mind. When we keep our own thought process under a rigid or extremely structured mentality, we can dig ourselves deep into stress and limit ourselves from reaching higher and better potentials- and this really reflects onto our work and our mental health. Learn to be more flexible in the ways that you work, ways that you think about ideas, how things could be changed or be created, and you’ll find out that your creativity not only soars, but you’ll be more stress free and feel less under pressure.

How to develop flexibility:

Let go. Flexibility is only developed when you understand that the only thing holding you down to a strict mentality and outlook is yourself. As an inventor you have the freedom to allow yourself to be free and thrive in different areas and accept the possibility that not every idea or structure you have for your product design will be successful. If an idea goes wrong or changes, you must try to let go, accept it, and then work around the problem. A great thing about flexibility is that you wont get stressed from facing a roadblock in a negative situation, and can always find a way around and out of any situation.

Persistence Why it’s important:

One of the final most valuable inventor traits that every inventor should develop is persistence. It’s not rare that for a genius idea to pop up in ones mind from time to time, as everyone gets inspired from their environment, but when a great idea hits, sometimes people feel fleeting motivation and inspiration for a short time and then find their motivation dwindle down and disappear! Having persistence not only keeps your ideas and inventions alive, but also proves to others that you genuinely believe that your idea is a good one that is innovative and needed by society. Persistence also goes hand in hand with confidence, and if you want to distinguish your idea strongly amongst competition, being persistent will naturally show your confidence in the belief of your invention or idea.

How to develop persistence:

Believe in yourself, stay focused, make some goals and ignore self-doubt and negativity. The biggest killer in persistence is allowing negativity to cloud your thoughts and beliefs. If you focus on being optimistic, you can keep striving and pushing with your idea because you genuinely believe it’ll work and succeed. If you’re finding it hard to stay optimistic; find a good source of inspiration or happiness. Having these sources of inspiration will keep you grounded and remind yourself why you started inventing and creating in the first place. It’s helpful to have these sources of inspiration and notes of your goals taped around your home or work area as a reminder for what you want to accomplish.

A new month is upon us! July comes with great weather, great events and two very big holidays, Canada Day and the 4th of July! Both days have huge significant importance since they mark the day that both countries became countries. Because of this, everyone goes out to celebrate and partake in a lot of different activities. Whether its with family or friends, everyone typically spends the whole day outdoors, enjoying festivities. Although both days are a lot of fun, being outdoors for so long can get tiring, especially if you’re constantly walking! To prepare you for these exciting days, we’ve listed some the newest innovations in outdoor product inventions for Canada Day and the Fourth of July that everyone should have with them.

The Number One Outdoor Product Invention

It goes without mention that the quintessential outdoor product invention that everyone should have while spending the day outdoors in the summer, is a constant source of hydration – which is why a water bottle is crucial to have on hand. Even if you think it’ll be easy to get a refreshment once you’re outdoors, you’ll be surprised to find that because of the amounts of people outside, long lines are susceptible to any food or drink place, and waiting in sun is just as hard as walking. The Beat Bottle is a perfect bottle to carry around with you because of its amazing design. Unlike other water bottles, this water bottle has a special compartment that allows you stash your phone or wallet in! This is a super helpful feature to have as being in crowded places with a bag makes it more susceptible to either losing things as they fall out, or even worse stolen. Have your phone or wallet inside your water bottle will makes sure you know that everything is in one place and will also give you quick access to your most needed items.

If you want to see more innovative products that will help you keep cool during the summer, check out our blog with all these cool inventions here!

The Most Needed Invention for Canada Day and the Fourth of July

It wouldn’t be an outdoor holiday if sunscreen wasn’t somehow included! It’s always important to remember that while you’re outside spending long hours in the sun, sunscreen is a much-needed invention for Canada Day and the Fourth of July. Covering yourself in a high SPF is crucial so that you don’t burn and protect your skin for the harmful rays of the sun. Applying sunscreen shouldn’t be so hard, but if you happen to be wearing makeup, applying sunscreen to the face could be a problem. A new and innovative solution to this problem is to use an SPF that doesn’t need to be rubbed into the skin, and beauty company ‘Super Goop’ has created this much needed outdoor product invention. Rather than a traditional sun cream, Super Goop developed a mineral setting powder that includes SPF in it, making it super helpful to not only apply SPF hourly as recommended, but to also touch up makeup (and you’ll definitely need to if you’re walking outside in the sun all day!). This product would also work perfect for kids who hate the sensation of applying sun cream on as the powder is light and requires little work to set into the skin!

The Most Innovative Development in the Classic Backpack Design

No matter the activity, carrying a backpack will be super helpful if you plan on spending your Canada day or fourth of July outdoors. This outdoor product invention will work perfectly if you plan on going hiking or walking around festivities in the city. Rather than settling for a regular backpack that can cause shoulder or backache, The Wolffepack Backpack is the newest backpack with an extremely innovative twist to its design. The Wolffepack Backpack features a “control handle” in which 3 cords are linked into the structured frame of the backpack and secured into the locking system. This then allows the backpack to rotate and move around the body so that its contents are easily accessible from any position, without taking off the bag at all! This is a super helpful feature to have as crowded areas can get hard to maneuver in, and having an easy access to you bag by easily bringing it to the front of you can save time and hassle of having to manually remove your bag from your shoulders. Not only a great invention for Canada Day and the Fourth of July but will also be perfect for school and day-to-day life!

The backpack is a classic design and product that is constantly being reinvented to be able to maximize its best capabilities, to see how this popular product has been re-invented before, our previous blog has all the details you’ll need!

A Unique Twist to One of the Most Famous Outdoor Product Inventions

If you’re someone who relies on the weather forecast, you’ve probably encountered the multiple times where sometimes the weather can be completely different than how its supposed to turn out. Nonetheless, if you plan on spending your whole day outdoors, it’s better to be prepared for the unexpected, which in this case, would be rain! Keeping an umbrella on you would save you the misfortune of having to walk around and getting drenched on, especially if you happen to get caught in the pouring summer rain. The UnBRELLA is an a new concept to the outdoor product invention, umbrellas, where the whole design is the opposite of the traditional design of a regular umbrella. In this product, the UnBRELLA’s design is brilliant since because its design is modeled to be inside out, after you’re done using it closing it will keep the wet surface inside, keeping it dry and out of the way of you and everyone else. Additionally, when you close it, you can set It down without the need of an umbrella stand!

It’s no surprise that musicians are highly looked up to by society. Rather than just being famous for things such as celebrity status, musicians are idolized for their talent in being able to perform and create/make music. Along with being generally talented in the arts, artists tend to have a lot drive and passion in the field of creating – just like any inventor would! You’d be surprised how many famous musicians have taken their exquisite talent to the next level by inventing new inventions that can take their passion and talent in music to the next level!

Prince – ‘The Purpleaxxe’

If you’re a big fan of rock, then you should be familiar with the infamous Keytar! The instrument has been used a lot throughout 80’s and 90’s rock and stands as an iconic instrument defining the rock and roll aesthetic that so many were inspired by. One of the most iconic symbols in creating and cultivating the look of rock and roll is the legendary and Grammy award winning Prince!

Known for his highly influential and progressive looks and experimentation in rock and roll, this musician inventor developed this product and is listed as the sole inventor for a custom-made keytar that was used in multiple different looks and performances. Prince customized the keytar to look like a scimitar and dubbed the instrument under the name ‘Purpleaxxe’ and soon after filed for the U.S patent, which he officially received in 1994.

Paula Abdul – The Dynamic Microphone Support Apparatus

Being a musician is undoubtedly a multi-faceted career. As a musician, musical and technical skill can only go so far as an artist prepares for extravagant and stimulating stages. For this reason, choreography and set direction are extremely important in a musicians’ performing career, especially given the fact that stages must work with loads of music equipment to keep sound quality clear.

With all these factors, mega pop star Paula Abdul became a musician inventor when she invented and patented a microphone stand that signers can incorporate chorography with whilst performing without getting tangled in cables and wires, this includes grasping the microphone, balancing on the base and moving around the stand. She patented the stand under the “dynamic microphone support apparatus” in 2009.

Eddie Van Halen – Guitar Modifications

As a musician, you spend years working and mastering your preferred instrument of choice, and even the most talented of musicians can never feel like they can truly ‘master’ and instrument due to how much variety of sounds and techniques can be performed through instruments. However, when Eddie Van Halen, known for being one of the most influential guitarists of all time has revolutionized the way artists play guitar.

Wanting to play the guitar in new ways, this musician inventor patented three different guitar modifications – a great example of how one can reinvent and redevelop an existing product to extend its capabilities to new levels. Van Halen was known for his unique guitar playing techniques such as two-handed tapping, however, seeing in how he had trouble execute the technique, he invented a support that would flip out the back of the guitars body in order to raise and stabilize the fretboard.

Michael Jackson – Gravity Defying Shoes

Other than just being the king of pop, Michael Jackson also dipped his feet in inventing! It’s no surprise that the legendary artist used his passion for music, performance and choreography to invent and develop the product known as the first “gravity-defying” shoes. From his well-known music video for “Smooth Criminal” the choreography featured a dance move in which Jackson would be able to lean almost horizontal down to the floor as possible without being weighed down by gravity.

The shoes that Jackson wore during the video and performance were shoes that features special cavities in the back of heel, the shoes hooked onto pegs that were embedded within the stages floor, allowing the gravity defying dance move to be possible. Now a musician inventor, Jackson along with two co-inventors patented the invention as well the method and means for creating an anti gravity illusion in 1993, and the act has been iconic in dance and performance world since!

Music and product design might be the pinnacle when it comes to combining functionality and design all in one. If you’re looking to reach out to some maestros, or even help innovative and grow the music consumer industry, figuring out how to create a product that is helpful whilst providing quality to a audience who uses their ears just as much as their hands whilst using music gadgets can be difficult. A key in building a successful music innovation is understanding how modern product design works in differentiating your new product from older ones. Below is a list of how music technology and modern product design combine to make inventions that are perfect for music lovers or the home producer who is either looking to increase their productivity in music making, learn some new skills, or pursue their passion in music!

Music Technology for Kids

In a market where most products are specifically designed for adults to use, it’s hard finding new and innovative products where kids can learn to play music and develop early artistic skills. You could always just send your kids to learn traditional instruments and spend hundreds on lessons, but what if you want them to learn something different than just classical music? The Data Duo is a synthesizer designed for kids that comes with a keyboard, sliders and the ability to loop sounds. This invention is great for giving kids a head start into techno based music and also familiarizes them with more digital based technology.

Synthesizers Made Easy

Another product invention in music technology designed to teach kids electronic music is the Blip Box. This product is a fully functional synthesizer with a design that makes it easy for kids to use and learn how to combine new sounds. Filled with bright colours and unique sounds, the Blip Box is made of a plastic design that is drop and splash resistant, but still carries strong professional features such as an input for external keyboards and sequencer controllers. The genius behind this product is that this invention requires no experience in music needed, rather it teaches kids how to explore new sounds and gives them an earlier insight as to how synthesizers, sequencers and drum machines work.

A Product Designed to Teach you Piano

Sometimes not everyone was as lucky to have their parents invest in teaching their kids an instrument, because of this, a lot of adults find themselves in the predicament where they’ve grown up and realized that they have an appreciation for the musical arts. However, with managing a work-life balance, and without the same fresh young mind as a kid, adults tend to find themselves struggling to learn how to play instruments such as the piano on their own accord within their schedule. The ONE Smart Piano is the first piano learning device made to help all those who missed out on those childhood lessons. The product design works so that it can attach itself onto any standard 88-key piano, and lets the user learn piano keys and notes through following the lights on the device. The product also includes games, Bluetooth and connects to an app, which includes more features to help the user learn faster and more efficiently.

Innovation in Music Technology to its Highest Degree

A common problem most people find themselves when wanting to pursue the instrument of their dreams is that they have no place to properly play without receiving noise complaints from their neighbors. If you’ve ever dreamed about learning the drums, noise issues are something you’ve definitely encountered. The Aerodrum is an invention that uses music technology to new bounds. Made for people who don’t have the proper accessibility to be able to play the drums without disrupting others, this insanely helpful and smart invention works by combining features that make any product successful. The product is dynamic, versatile, and portable. Aerodrums are designed to look like traditional drumsticks, but with reflective, weighted balls at the end. You are also given pedals, and a lamp that all fits within a special lens and camera that connects to your computer. Through your computer screen and headphones, you can watch your movements and learn to play all through simulations!

Wondering how you can also build a creative product design such as the ones above? Check out our blog on creativity exercises to help you with your designs!
