Last February, I finally bought the Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick in the shade Lover and I think my husband's a little thankful about this purchase.
If there's one thing I regret right now, it would be that I didn't try this liquid lipstick out sooner. You see, as we were wedding planning, Reg and I had to attend numerous events such as lunch meetings with suppliers, family gatherings, and meeting up with friends that I think he's had it with my annoying question of "Do I still have lipstick on?" after every meal.
He never complains whenever I ask, but looking back, if someone asked me that same question after ever meal for four weeks, I swear I would've just ignored them completely. I'm also the worst, because after he answers "yes, there's still some color" I'll immediately pop out my compact powder just to check. He then gives me the "so why did you have to ask me" stare.
The thing that I love the most about the packaging is the doe foot applicator. It comes in a pretty petal shape and it applies an equal amount of product all over the lips. It's also very soft and you can draw some pretty sharp lip lines with it too. I also like the block color packaging, although a little con is I can never really tell if I've finished half of product off or when it's time to buy a new one. The matte plastic packaging is pretty easy to clean with some cotton balls and alcohol and I also like how the brand's name isn't rubbing off.
I also noticed that the lipstick's texture is quite thick, but at the same time, it dries very matte and lightweight. It's also very, very pigmented and one layer is all I need for an equal application on my lips. I know other people say don't press your lips together when using this lipstick, but out of habit, I still do it and I don't think it affects anything at all. Pressing my lips together doesn't make it look botchy, uneven, or whatever myth someone else says. When I do make a mistake though, I just use an oil-based makeup remover and it's easily fixed.
You do have to give this lipstick a few minutes before it's completely dry and matte, and when it does set, it's definitely set for the whole day -- the whole 24 hours! It's uber lightweight and it doesn't dry my lips out... like ever. This product is so long-lasting, it's kind of like magic. I mean how can a product be matte, lightweight, non-drying, and stay on your lips from breakfast all the way to dinner and drinks? I feel like my makeup fairy god mother just answered my lipstick prayers. Gosh, this lipstick is definitely better than my high-end ones.
Now, because this lipstick is so long-wearing, the removal process is kind of tricky. I feel like my micellar water isn't really getting everything off, so oil-based makeup removers are definitely the way to go for the Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink Liquid Lipsticks. Also, don't forget to care for your lips and use lip balm at night.
And for the price of PHP 299, I mean you really can't go wrong with this lipstick. It definitely beat all my high-end ones and I really want to get more shades. I want to add about two or three more colors and if a sale comes up, I'll definitely be in front of the line.
Let me know if we have the same habits. Like asking your partners if you still have lip color on, then checking it for yourself because you don't believe them. It's funny because he definitely gives me a stare. Lol.
I didn't really expect much from this Careline Graph-Ink Liner, but man, was I in for a surprise!
Careline Graph-Ink Eyeliner Liner Review
I believe I already found my holygrail eyeliner years ago... BUT who knew that I didn't have to spend a thousand pesos just to get the same high-end quality? Honestly, if both of them were put to a test, I can't even tell which is which because this Careline Graph-Ink Liner is one of the best liquid eyeliners I've tried in the market!
It comes in the new Careline Better than Basic packaging which looks very edgy and it also has a felt tip which is quite soft. It's soft and gentle enough on the eyelids, but it still creates crisp sharp lines. The pen also isn't too short nor too long. It just reminds me so much of my holygrail eyeliner as they both look and feel the same when it comes to application. As for pigmentation, this is a true black eye liner (probably as black as my soul) and I am loving every bit of it! I don't even need to layer anything up.
This eyeliner also promises to be smudge proof and waterproof. Now, I haven't really gone swimming and tested it out in the waters yet, but one thing I can assure you is that this eyeliner can withstand sweat-and my super oily eyelids. I mean even after wearing this for 20 hours, it still looks perfect, sharp, and smudge-free as promised.
It's a little liquidy for my liking and it takes about a minute to dry. What I usually do with liquid liners like this would be to leave the cap off for about 30 minutes, you know, just so it would dry up a bit, just the way I like it.
I can't tell you how much this eyeliner resembles my high-end one and only at a fraction of the price. This retails for only PHP 165 and the quality is just amazing. It's definitely sweat-proof, smudge-proof and this can totally withstand the summer heat in the country. I highly recommend this Careline Graph-Ink Liner. It's very, very high quality and isn't a pain in the butt to remove.
I've been hearing a lot of buzz about the Cre8skin Salmon Oil Cream.
At first, I thought it was really unusual to incorporate salmon oil into skincare, but hey, since a lot of us are already drinking fish oil capsules because of the benefits to our body, I said to myself, maybe I should give this a try?
Read on for my full experience...
After one week.
Week 2, 3, and 4 of use.
I only used this for 4 weeks. What more if I used this long-term right?
Cre8skin Salmon Oil Cream Review
I didn't realize how big my pores were until I compared the photos. I also got a little tanner in the last photo because we went to Singapore and I got sun burnt, but still, my pores were less visible compared before.
Now, can we just appreciate the packaging of this cream? It comes in a rose gold glass bottle which looks super gorgeous and super high end. I was kind of shocked because the plastic packaging it came in resembles a tin can, so when I opened it, it was like I hit the jackpot seeing this shiny rose gold bottle. Mind you, it's heavy and the bottle is quite full. It also comes with a spatula for application which I think is very thoughtful and hygenic.
I was actually worried about the smell, but when I opened the bottle, I'm again surprised because it smelled like roses. And yes, I repeat, this cream smells like roses. It doesn't smell like your typical V.S. floral blooms which are too sweet. It's really more of a calming-rosy-faint scent. I'm like "can this cream get any better?" I already felt like I hit the jackpot with the packaging, but then it smells amazing too!
As for the product itself, it comes in blush pink and it feels a little cold once applied. Oh, and this doesn't feel heavy at all. It's not too thick but it's not super liquidy and runny either. It's just a perfect lightweight cream that's immediately absorbed by skin. I usually apply this after toner and serums and use this just like an everyday moisturizer. It makes my skin feel healthy and nourished, and after it dries, I proceed with my usual makeup routine of applying primer and base. Plus points because it doesn't feel sticky either. I use this cream twice a day.
I know this kind of promises to be an all-in-one kind of cream, but it actually has two main claims being whitening and anti-wrinkle. At first, I thought there wasn't really a big difference on my skin, but when I saw the photos, I was completely wrong! If you compare my skin before I started using this cream, you can see my pores were so big and I had a lot of blemishes and redness. And now, if you look at the my skin's current state (although I got tanned) my pores became less visible and my skin looks smoother, healthier, and a lot brighter and fairer than it did before.
All in all, I feel like my skin's gotten a hundred times better because of this cream. I believe it really did whiten my blemishes and made my skin look younger. So, if you're looking for a cream that works while you sleep, I'd definitely recommend this one. I really noticed how my skin's texture became smoother, softer, and fairer. And hey, it even delivers results after a week. Truly a must try!
Hand creams are something I usually pack whenever I travel to colder countries. This is sort of my little hack way back in college. Like why bother bringing that large tub of lotion when you've got a travel friendly moisturizing product that fits inside your bag?
Ever Bilena Naturals Hand Cream Review
Most of my friends don't use hand creams because they never really found the need for it in this hot climate. But I remember in our office Christmas party last year, it was so funny because everyone was asking for hand creams, body lotions, and moisturizers in their wish list. Note that these are mostly men who are asking for these products. They're really a must-have if you work in a super cold office or else your hands will just crack and dry up.
And how cute are these Ever Bilena hand creams? Their floral design packaging is so on point, it looks so gorgeous and dreamy. I'm also loving the texture as it's not too runny, but not too thick either. It feels like a gel moisturizer rather than body lotion. They glide on smoothly on my hands and they're easily absorbed by my skin. Femme Floral doesn't smell too sweet. It's kind of going for more of a clean scent. While Sweet Rose just smells like fresh blooms, but not too overpowering. It reminds me so much of this rose body lotion that I use.
The next time you're going to a colder place or if you're looking for a new hand cream for the office, I'd recommend getting the Sweet Rose variant. It smells super nice and it's absorbed immediately by skin. It doesn't feel sticky too, so it can multitask as body lotion for your trip. It's very travel friendly and the packaging is just too cute to pass out.
These are available at all leading department stores.
Colourpop Cosmetics has done it again. They have for the hundredth time, made me fall in love with another one of their lip products, the Colourpop Cosmetics Blotted Lips line. I have three shades to share with you today and these three are so wearable you might just stash your liquid lipsticks back inside their drawers.
L-R: Colourpop Cosmetics Blotted Lips in Ice Cube, Candy Floss, Drip one layer only.
For the past year, my makeup look has been oh so natural that I cringe whenever I relive the days or see pictures of myself wearing MAC Rebel or any dark or plum-colored lipstick (hello to my 2014 makeup looks). I mean how did I even pull those off? Was it because I was younger and a little bit more daring when it came to makeup? Wait, so did I unintentionally call myself old right now? Just wow. Anyway, those days were short-lived as MLBB colors became my jam and I discovered lip tints.
I was in love yet again and crazy with these lip tints because I didn't need to reapply them immediately after eating. But then I realized these lip tints were actually pretty drying and my lips were starting to hurt.
And so, when these Colourpop lipsticks came into my life, I finally found the perfect mix between a lipstick and a lip stain into one product.
Colourpop Blotted Lip Review
They come in the same packaging as the Lippie Stix, just a little smaller, but they actually have the same amount of product inside being 1 gram. A little difference I noticed was that the blotted lip caps were matte and are more of a dirt magnet compared to the lippie stix caps. Nonetheless, they can totally be cleaned by rubbing alcohol.
As for the lipstick product itself, these blotted lips are very, very different compared to the lippie stix. These are drier and more matte and very, very lightweight. It's as if I'm not wearing anything at all. These lipsticks are also very versatile when it comes to pigmentation because they can go from just looking like a lip balm stain all the way to a full on lipstick. As you can see on the swatches above, they go from zero to 100 real fast. It just depends on the look that you're going for with these lipsticks.
If you're a lip stain or a lip tint user, you probably know the struggle of having dry lips. These blotted lips aren't creamy nor moisturizing, but they aren't drying either. They apply like lip balms, lightweight, very minimal tugging, and they have a sheer matte finish. They sometimes transfer to glasses when I eat, but they're not something I need to reapply immediately after a meal. It's kind of difficult to flat out say how long it lasts because I find these colors very close to my natural lip color. -- maybe three to four hours with meals and snacks? I would always ask my husband if I need to reapply lipstick and he would answer me with a no. It also fades very gracefully and it never ever gave me a lip liner look with all these months of me wearing it. Plus points because they don't transfer outside of my lips nor onto my food.
I say if you want that lip stain looking pout, but don't want your lips to feel like the Sahara desert, go for these Colourpop Blotted Lips. These lipsticks have been my go-to whenever I want a natural looking lip. These three shades are great for everyday wear and can actually go from day to night just by building the color up. The shade Drip has been my favorite and I've been wearing it non-stop during date nights. It's just perfect for that no-makeup makeup look.
Welcome to Makeup in Manila: A beauty, lifestyle, and interiors blog written by Maj Valencia-Rodriguez.
You may not believe me, but I have been staring at my laptop for the last four-and-a-half hours thinking about how I should write this post. And if you've noticed the Valencia-Rodriguez part of my name, it's true. I'm finally married to this amazing guy I met way back in college named Reggae. Pretty catchy for a name, right? You can call him Reg.
Let's catch up!
I have been away from the beauty and blogging scene for over a year and I honestly didn't realize how difficult it was to go back to blogging. You could call it writers block, but I just couldn't really find the drive to write. I know other people would say take a vacation or what-not during times like this, but I felt like I just lost my creativity in writing and expressing how I feel. Words weren't coming out as freely as they did before.
Also during this hiatus, I noticed the changes in the Facebook and Instagram algorithms plus the rise of the social media influencers with their amazingly themed profiles. I felt like I couldn't catch up with these millennials who would post their amazing beach bodies just to promote sunscreen or post selfies featuring their super smooth and clear skin. These group of people were so fashionable that I felt like I didn't give justice to the word "blogger" whenever I would attend events under-dressed. Somehow I felt out of place, like I didn't belong in the community anymore.
But then, the same year when I was gone, my blog started receiving awards from other countries. I've been featured in various websites naming me as one of the Top Asian Beauty Bloggers in the World, Top Filipino Beauty Bloggers you should follow, and so much more that I thought hey, wait a second. People are still reading my blog and they're actually interested in what I have to say? Like wow, how can that be? I've been gone for so long.
It only takes a little spark to start a fire...
Just today, I saw that I was featured again in another country and thought maybe I should go back? Maybe I should blog again? Maybe my readers will welcome me back? Maybe if I try hard enough, words will just free-flow...
And so here I am, six hours and counting... still not finished writing this post...
Along with my new hyphenated surname comes two new topics being wife life, which features all my personal thoughts, daily life, and random musings -- basically stuff that I need to write down before I go crazy with all these new changes in my life -- and interiors which cover all pieces we bring into our new rooms and home. Where to get this plate? This coffee maker? How do I style my vanity table? Home pieces I am loving at the moment.
Oh, you might also see a little bit of my decluttering journey. I've been reading up on minimalism and the Kon Mari method since 2016 and I have finally started to act on it. I've been focused on keeping only the items that bring me joy, and before you worry about my makeup collection, those items are surely on the to-keep list! I'd rather throw away clothes and shoes than items that make me happy. Lol. Probably missing the point, but they really have a special place in my heart.
Lastly, I want to be more candid and personal in my posts. In this world of doing things all for social media and being all curated to promote a fake lifestyle, I hope I become sort of a reality check for all my followers and readers that hey, this chic washes the dishes while wearing a foot mask because sometimes you just gotta multitask (so many of you loved that Instagram story BTW) Kidding aside, I just want to be able to post what I want whenever I want. I want to be that girl that's just trying to post her experiences upon using products while sharing bits and pieces of her life. I'll be old school blogging from now on.
Let me know if you think those pineapple jewelry holders are cute!
Just two days before my wedding day, I dropped by Luxe Smiles Dental Center in Southwoods, Laguna to get my teeth whitened. I know you're probably thinking "but there's already a ton of teeth whitening products out in the market" and yes, I have tried a bunch of them, but nothing just seems to be working... and so, I went and consulted an expert.
I am a big coffee lover. I don't just drink coffee to get my usual caffeine fix, but I actually enjoy and savor the moment any time I'm making and drinking it. With that said, coffee has definitely stained my teeth. I've been drinking it non-stop for 11 years now, so this isn't really something that's shocking.
If you've ever considered getting your teeth whitened, here's what's going to happen...
Behind the scenes...
The procedure's rather quick and would take only about two hours depending on how many rounds you can handle. As I do have fluorosis, the first thing Dr. Keneshia did was put some gooey-looking-stuff (obviously I have no idea what it's called) on my gums to prevent the bleach from reaching the gums. Do not -- and I repeat, do not underestimate that blue liquid because once hit by laser, it solidifies and turn into plastic. You literally need scissors to cut it out.
Alright, now that we've got our gums protected, the second thing she did was apply bleach directly to each tooth. This is the part where you'll start to feel a little uncomfortable because there's a bit of teeth sensitivity going on. After coating each tooth with bleach powder, it's now time for the activator light. You'll be wearing some shades because I kid you not, that blue light will blind you in an instant. It's probably best to shut your eyes because the activator light will be turned on for the next 10 to 15 minutes. And that's it! That's basically what happens during one round of bleaching. It's really up to you on how many rounds your teeth can handle. She'll also be applying fluoride after the whole session to prevent your teeth from de-calcfying or losing calcium.
I had about two rounds of bleaching and my teeth instantly went from a 6 to a 3 on the tooth whitening shade guide. I believe you can do about three rounds in a day which would take about an hour and the teeth whitening results lasts for about 5 to 10 years depending on your eating and drinking habits.
Top: My teeth before the procedure.
Center: My teeth after one round of bleaching.
Bottom: After two rounds of bleaching.
Goodbye coffee stained teeth...
I'm amazed at what a 45-minute session of teeth whitening can do. This is definitely the way to go for coffee and soda lovers like me.
If you've dreaded going to the dentist all your childhood years, I hope I've given you a new light that it isn't as scary as it seems. Sometimes overthinking just gets the best of us and these experts are actually here to help us and cater to our needs whether it be removing our toothache that's been bothering us everyday or just getting our pearly whites cleaned.
Luxe Smiles Dental Center offers a wide range of services from teeth whitening, braces, and surgical procedures. You can drop by their clinic at Coral Center Southwoods Binan, Laguna or give them a call at (+254 54 11309).
Welcome to my first product review for 2018 and it's all about the L'Oreal Infallible Total Cover Foundation.
I've been missing-in-action last year because of my wedding preparations, and let me tell you, it feels so good to be back. And so, without further-ado, here's my thoughts about the newest L'Oreal Infallible foundation...
Thank you L'Oreal for letting me be the first to try these shades out!
L'Oreal Infallible Total Cover Foundation Swatches in 302, 305, and 307
One layer of L'Oreal Infallible Total Cover Foundation in 305
I'm a very big fan of the L'Oreal Infallibe Pro-Matte Foundation. The oil-control and everything was great, but I felt like I was missing something... like I needed to have more coverage. And I guess L'Oreal heard me (or us) and came out with their new Total Cover Foundation. This foundation promises to provide full coverage while having a weightless feel.
Packaging-wise, it comes in a squeeze-tube plastic bottle almost very similar to their Pro-Matte Foundation, but the texture is very different. While the latter was very liquidy and fluid, this foundation has a more mousse-y texture and it definitely packs a punch. A pea-sized amount of this product will definitely get you a long, long way, and a lot of coverage. Better be careful with how much product you squeeze out.
Another thing that I noticed aside from this foundation being very potent, is that it actually feels lightweight on the skin. Once this foundation settles into your skin, you'll barely feel like you're wearing anything at all. It also looks like second skin, but a whole lot better. Have you noticed how it was able to cover up some of my blemishes above? It was able to neutralize redness and dark spots even though I applied it very thinly on my cheeks. If I applied two layers of this foundation, it would've absolutely provided me full coverage and a pore-less matte finish. I guess I don't need to use any concealer at all with this foundation.
Even though this foundation doesn't claim to have oil-control, let me tell you that I never ever use powder after applying this base, and it takes about five to six hours before I feel the need to powder my face. It just looks super natural and dewy, that even if you just blot your T-zone with tissue, you're still good to go for another two hours. I find that the longer it stays and settles on my face, the more I am loving the natural finish.
So there you have it, I think I just found my go-to foundation for the next six or so months. I just love how this can provide full coverage with just two layers and that it has amazing oil-control. It also made me forget about my concealers, and let me tell you, it's a really, really big deal. I wouldn't really recommend this to people who have dry skin because it's truly matte and you will find it drying. But for people like me, who have oily-skin and blemishes, this is absolutely a must-try.
This retails for PHP 700 and is available at your leading department stores.
I know a lot of couples splurge when it comes to their pre-nuptial shoots. Most of the couples go abroad, go out-of-town, go hiking, go to the beach, all the crazy things you can think of. But as for us, (well, it's more of a "me" really) I really wanted to have a garden-breakfast-lounging-in-my-pajamas-kind-of-engagement-shoot. It's just something at the back of my mind that I really wanted to do. Of course, with our laid back and passive style, nothing could go wrong!
I honestly really didn't know what to do or how to conceptualize it. Pinterest wasn't really that helpful because the pins I was seeing weren't really what I had in mind. So you know, we just went all gung-ho and left it to our photographer, Jenry, on what he wanted to do.
Oh, by the way, if you're new to my blog, I want you to know that I'm not a fan of taking selfies at all, let alone have someone take my photos. I'm really not THAT comfortable in front of the camera compared to other people. I was really hesitant to even do a pre-nuptial shoot, but going back and looking at the pictures, I'm really glad we pushed through with it.
Location: Alta Veranda de Tibig
Photographer: Jenry Villamar
Hair & Makeup Artist: Elaine Celestino
Peso power: Less than PHP 5,000.00 for seven people including toll gates, gas, meals for the whole day, even the food included in the photoshoot.
Some people discouraged me to go through with my pajama-themed photoshoot thinking it was weird, but you know what, I have no regrets at all. I feel like this is a little unique. I hope this shoot also inspires other people to just push for whatever they want.
What I learned from doing this engagement shoot was that I was a hell of an awkward person behind and in front of the camera and that I should just trust whatever our photographer wants me/us to do -- like a pose when he gives out directions. This also built some trust between us and it made me feel more comfortable knowing our wedding day pictures would look awesome.
And hey, if you ever saw our formal pictures, I swear it's a Wild-Flower-Ivy-Aguas kind of shoot. We've only got 19 days to go before our wedding, so I'll probably upload it after we get back from our honeymoon.
If you want to check out the happenings on February 17, just search for our official hashtag #MajRegRoadToMarriage on Instagram.
I know a lot of people draft up their New Year's Resolution at the last day of the year writing down things they won't do anymore the following year. But as for me, I'm a little bit more results-oriented and I write down things I want to achieve. It's kind of a little post it note on what I should be doing instead of lounging around and eating popcorn on the couch.
1. Adjust to the wife life. Learn how to cook.
2. Maintain my new tab called Wife Life.
There will be a lot of changes in my life, one being that I'll probably be moving to the north and doing responsible adult stuff like do groceries, some cooking (I hate cooking), paying utilities, cleaning this and cleaning that. I honestly don't know how I'll go about it or if I can even survive a week of cooking, let alone do laundry for two people. This will be an adventure and that's why I created a new tab on the blog called Wife Life.
Wife Life will kind of be the more digital personal version of my life. This will still include the blogger events that I go to and what stuff I've been doing over the days, and probably a lot of reflections and thoughts. It's going to be a mish-mash at first as there will be an adjustment period, but we'll see how it goes.
3. Eat healthy. Avoid salty foods. Drink a lot of water.
4. Learn yoga.
5. Sleep for six to eight hours.
6. Think more positive.
For these set of goals, obviously, they focus not only on physical health, but mental health as well. I've been hospitalized too many times last 2017 due to my poor eating habits and stressed out mind. I've been sleeping for only four hours for the past three years due to my work, and I've really seen how it's taken a toll on my body.
I think the most difficult goal would be drinking a lot of water and avoiding salty foods. I can eat anything with bagoong and I love soy sauce. I eat any kind of viand, vegetable or fruit with bagoong. It is kind of weird if you imagine me eating apples with bagoong and a ripe mango being dipped into soy sauce. So yeah, I really hope I can lessen my intake.
Yoga is something I also want to learn and do simply because it helps with breathing. I have seasonal asthma which makes it difficult for me whenever there's a change in weather or temperature and it really sucks. It's like the air that I'm inhaling isn't enough and I have to really struggle for more air. I think I'll download an app first or watch videos and see before enrolling in a class.
7. Visit mom monthly.
We go to the cemetery monthly, and with me moving like four hours away from Manila and six hours away from Laguna, I really hope I can still do this monthly. It's just a few hours of my month that I have to sacrifice to spend time with my mom. Sigh, we never really know what we have until they're gone.
8. Travel with Reg.
With my strict family, it's very, very, very, very difficult (I don't know if I emphasized that enough) to go on a vacation, let alone if you're with your boyfriend. It's like you have to create a PowerPoint and provide a directory of who you're with, where are you going to go et cetera that it's really such hassle to go on a vacation with Reg. So now that we're going to be together, let the passport stamps begin!
9. Get my blog to 1 million views.
We all know that I kind of abandoned my blog last 2017. I just really felt guilty that I'm more excited to blog than to do wedding preparations, so I just stopped. I've learned a lot during my hiatus and it also feels like I'm way behind new trends on social media. But hey, I'm ready to go back this 2018 and make my blog reach a million views.
10. Blog at least twice a week.
Along with my lack of blogposts and social media posts last 2017, I vow to publish two blog posts a week. I feel like my blog deserves a lot of new posts after I've left it out of the cold in 2017. I don't know if I can do it, but I will really, really try. I need to make up for my baby here! Besides, I still have a lot of makeup that I want to review and feature.
I really want to add a lot more goals, but I'll just leave it here for now.
What's your 2018 goal?
