Anyone with sensitive skins have probably experienced the not so pleasant feeling of tightness, prickling, or the visible redness occurring after face washing. There are many factors that can trigger the skin to react quickly. Whether it is due to the heat, that particular skincare ingredient in your lastest serum, due to the stress, or linked to hormone unbalances, a really gentle beauty routine is key to keep reactions and redness at bay. Considering that face cleansing is one of the most disrupting beauty steps for the skin's natural balance, you need to be sure to pick the right cleanser to address correctly your skin sensitivity issues. I have tested the Trilogy Very Gentle Cleansing Cream* (£23.00 for 200ml) thanks to the LoveLula blogger program and here what I think.
Dreaming of a delicate cream that can gently take off your makeup and thoroughty clean your skin without triggering any burning or tiggling sensations? That is what the Trilogy cleanser promises. Housed in a tinted glass pump bottle, the cleanser dispenses easily and one or 2 pumps per use are sufficient enough.
What is so good about the cleanser?
- thetexture is awesome: non foaming, creamy, moiturising, doing a great job at maintaining the skin barrier balance.
- the formulation comprises a mix of some of the best skin soothing ingredients including Chamomille extract, the signature calming complex Syricalm™ to relieve itchiness and improve the skin defence fonctions.
- the presence of pure botanical oils such as Almond, Evening Primrose, and Camellia oils ensures a gentle cleansing while keeping the skin moisturised and supple.
- the cleanser is perfume-free and does not contain essential oils, so that is ideal especially is your skin is sensitive to strong smell/ specific molecules.
How do I use it?
Face cleansing is an important step-if not the most important, in my skincare routine. Because the formula of the Trilogy cleanser feels really precious and nurturing, I like to thoroughly massage it on my face, insisting on the cheeks, forehead, and chin. I wait a few minutes, then start to add a bit of water to ultimately rinse it off with lukewarm water. I do not use any muslin cloth or facial brush. I love to use the Very Gentle cleansing cream as a 2nd cleanser in the evening and on its own in the morning.
How does my skin feels afterwards?
Although I can't claim that my skin gets easily irritated, harsh weather conditions tend to make my skin drier or slightly redder hence my needs to often choose skincare products for sensitive skins. I love the way my skin feels after using the Very Gentle Cleansing Cream: soft, moisturised, and more importantly cleansed.
I have noticed that the cleanser struggles a bit to remove a full face of makeup. Light makeup removal stills work though. Considering the really nurturing formula, I didn't not expect any other perfomance. And that is fine.
The bottom line
The SLS-free Very Gentle Cleansing Cream is an ideal everyday cleanser that gently cleanses the skin while keeping flare-ups at minimum. It is a delight for any sensitive skins but the cleanser can also work for any other skin types in search for a bit of comfort. If you are wearing heaving makeup, use then first a cleansing oil/balm to remove the stubborn mascara/heavy foundation. Light makeup do not resist to the creamy buttery milk though! All in all, this is a fantastic skincare cleansing item that won't disappoint sensitive souls!
I tend to be a skincare/makeup minimalist. I like to keep my beauty regimen simple. Although I love discovering new natural beauty products, I have been really faithful to a few products since a while now. The reason behind it is obvious: if my skin looks happy and healthy with the skincare items I use, why would I change or switch products? Today, I would like to share with you the 4 awesome beauty products that have changed my skin and beauty routine into a better one. Read below!
The first product I always keep in my beauty cabinet is one that is simple, pure, amazingly scented, soothing, toning, rebalancing, calming. Have you guessed it? Yes? No? Well, I'm talking about organic Rose water. I like to reach it after cleansing my face to rebalance the skin. It helps to readjust the skin's pH to a more acidic level. I use it twice a day after morning and evening cleansing routine. Rose hydrosol has great results with irritated and sensitive skin as it helps to gently decongestion and refreshes the skin. I am currently using Alteya Organics Rose water, and I love it.
Moving on to my 2nd top skincare products now. If you are following my blog, you are probably aware of my love relationship with the Kimberly Sayer Ultra-light organic facial moisturiser. Honestly, I can't get enough of this super light yet hydrating moisturiser. It is aimed at combination/oily skins, but will perfectly work if your skin is normal to dry. (Having said that, if you prefer a richer texture, you can always try their antioxidant cream which also contains an SPF). It is not heavy, quickly absorbed, and I can right away apply my makeup. I use it everyday without any fail. This is really a solid buy for me since it delivers great results and my skin looks really healthy.
The other skincare item I always have in my beauty cabinet is a bottle of organic Rosehip oil. Designed to all the sin types, Rosehip oil remains one of my favorite night treatments. My skin is always glowing and "reset" the morning after- definitely looking more unified. Small imperfections also seem to heal quicker when I use it. Since Rosehip oil is very sensitive to oxidation, I tend to choose beauty brands that sell Rosehip oil in a dark packaging rather than in a "pretty" packaging if that makes sense. Trilogy Skincare Rosehip oil and Alteya Organics cold pressed organic Rosehip seed oil are my top choices.
Last but not least on my list of can't-live-without products is the amazing Absolution face scrub. This scrub is more like a rich cream than a light emulsion. The tiny micro-granules and the AHA's gently buff away dead cells and impurities leaving the skin soft and super glowing. I find that la Creme gommante combines the effects of an extremely gentle peeling treatment with the restorative effects of a potent repairing cream. All in all, this is a winner for me and will remain so.

7- JOIK Candle Vanille et Noisette- I'm usually not super into candles... except when we approach the Chritmas season: candles can really transform any cold ambiance into a lovely and cosy atmosphere with a nicely scent in bonus. Vanilla and Nuts are the perfect combo: warm and sweet. Love it!
Who does not love a good face oil that concentrates all the plant goodness and promises to deliver hydration and much more? Well, all face oils/blends are not created equal. I have tested over the last few months some face oils: all have their unique history, compositions, and benefits. Here's my little round-up below. If you are an oil lover and thinking of updating your face oil collection, then, you are going to be thrilled!
Esse Organics Repair oil*(£36.00 for 30ml) Esse organics is a South African natural beauty brand that I really cherish. All the products I have tried so far never failed my skin and I have always observed an improvement of my skin after a couple weeks of use. And the Repair oil is by no means an exception to the rule. With its unique texture, the repair oil has been my go-to oil to provide softness, nourishment, and restore "that" glow. Rich in Flax seed, Rosehip, Vitamin E and Kalahari melon oils, I can't rave enough how my skin looked unified and healed the morning after.
Laponie Skincare Facial oil*(€44,00 for 30ml) Originally from Finland, Laponie skincare combines a lovely range of natural and vegan skincare products designed to treat and care for the skin while carefully maintaining its balance. The Laponie facial oil is a luxurious oil blend made from regenerating Argan oil, calming Oat kernel oil, healing Rosehip oil and soothing Raspberry oil. While this oil feels incredibly moisturising, it offers other skin benefits: it helps to decrease inflammation and improve redness areas. Suitable for all types of skin including skin prone to blemishes and breakouts.
Living Nature Ultimate day oil* (for 30 ml) Featuring Tangerine peel and Lavender essential oils, the Ultimate day oil combines a very citrusy and refreshing scent with a lovely composition to ensure the skin stays smooth and glowing. This daily treatment is rapidly absorbed, suitable for all type of skins, and ensure the skin stays moisturised and soft. If your skin is too sensitive for essential oils, then, this oil may not be for you. All in all, the Living Nature day oil is great at maintaining the skin healthy/ happy and improving its radiance. I love applying one or two drops in the neck and even behind the wrist as an alternative to perfumes.
Troos skincare Fine botanical facial oil*($46.00 for 30ml) The elegant packaging is the first thing that caught my eyes. Isn't it beautiful? The fine botanical oil features some very classical plant oils known for their moisturizing and fast-absorbing properties such as Grapeseed oil, Olive oil and Rosehip oil. The smart scent of French Lavender is beautiful and calming. The lightweight oil delivers hydration for a more luminous skin. This oil is targeted towards those with normal skins but would also recommend it to those with sensitive/dry skins.
Ooh! Organic Hemp balancing face oil (£19,00 for 30ml) This is just 100% pure Hemp seed oil that offers a hell lots of benefits for the skin. In addition to be very moisturising and softening, Hemp oil is reknown for its anti-inflammatory properties. Hemp oil is suitable for all skin types especially the troubled skin as it provides moisture without aggravating existing skin issues and/or clogging the pores. Applied daily, Hemp oil helps to minimize fine lines and contributes to a clearer complexion. A firm favorite here!
What do you think? Which oil would you like to try?
Today, I am opening a NEW series on the blog. Every month, I will be talking about a very specific molecule or family of molecules and broadly explain their role for the skin in general. Today, I am super happy to kick off with my first "candidate": CAROTENOIDS.
What are carotenoids? Carotenoids are fat-soluble plant pigments which can be found in veggies or fruits. They are part of a big family of molecules that comprises many members such as β-carotene, lycopene, lutein, and zeaxanthin. Carotenoids, especially β-carotene, are considered to be major anti-oxidants that help to fight free radicals resulting from UV exposure. Carotenoids cannot be synthesized independently by the body and must be provided by food.
What can carotenoids do for the skin?
They can do a lot.
They protect the skin against damaging UV rays at a cellular level.
They help to reduce premature signs of aging.
they may help to improve the skin suppleness.
They indirectly improve skin glow and resistance.
What food are rich in carotenoids?
Food high in carotenoids include veggies and fruits with a strong and vibrant color such as peppers, sweet potatoes, spinach, oranges, tomatoes, grapefruits but also carrots and sweet potatoes to name a few. Eggs are well-known to be rich in lutein.
What about carotenoids in skincare products?
Research studies have investigated the topical applications of carotenoids and all seem to lead to the same conclusion: carotenoids (especially lycopene and β-carotene) play an important role in skin health. Investigations have focused on the concentration of carotenoids stocked in the epidermis and their respective distribution following topical application and/or oral intake. Both topical application and carotenoid rich-food intake seem to result in an accumulation of carotenoids in the skin which is good news!
"So, it clearly sounds a good idea to incorporate in your beauty routine skincare products that contain carotenoids in their formulation."
There is a carotenoid that generates a lot of buzz in the skincare industry and I thought it clearly deserves a mention here. It is called Astaxanthin. According to research, Astaxanthin is a promising carotenoid which claims to be 6000 times stronger than Vitamin C, displays potent anti-inflammatory properties, is incredibly moisturising, and is able to scavenge free radicals generated by UV rays. Sounds good, isn't it?
Aging is natural. But if you want to help to decrease and minimize any signs of premature ageing, a healthy diet rich in carotenoids is one of the best strategies you could follow in addition to an effective skincare routine using actives- and vitamin-packed products.
Always remember that once the skin is damaged by UV rays, even a change of liftestyle/high anti-oxidant diet won't be enough to repair 100% of the damages.
So my golden rules are: . use sunscreen (this ONE is my favorite) . enrich your diet with a powerful anti-oxidant fruits&veggies . invest in the right skincare products (see HERE)
Let's be honest: Autumn is finally here with its colder temperatures and shorter days. Apart from a few days of harsh wind, I have been pretty lucky here in Amsterdam as the temperatures were kind of mild until a few days ago. We definitely had a beautiful Indian summer! As the weather is slowly but surely changing, I want to share with you my the top beauty tips in order to transition smoothly to the cooler season. Read below!
SKIN As the temperatures drop, the lightweight moisturizer you diligently used to apply during the Summer is not heavy enough to bring a decent protection. The skin needs a bit more cocooning than usual. It is time to invest in a good moisturizer that not only can keep your skin moisture's in balance but also protect the skin barrier against environmental challenges.
Another important change to implement in Autumn is to get some health complements. Getting supplements is actually not needed if your diet is balanced and if you are in good health. But if you think you need that little kick, then, a daily vitamin C boost intake, for example, can have great results as it will help stimulating the defense mechanisms of the body while having positive effects on the skin.
As the humidity escapes the air, the skin may become a tad itchier or drier- with red areas appearing in particular zones such as the knees or the elbows. I swear by a good and quickly absorbed body cream that deeply hydrates, protects, and restores my skin suppleness. I like to apply it on damp skin after the shower as it keeps the moisture levels up throughout the day. My preference goes to lotions that are not greasy. I usually reserve body oils for the weekend as I have more time to enjoy the application ritual.
HAIR Autumn is the perfect season to reassess your haircare routine and transition to a more caring and nurturing one. I have long and curly hair and I often get compliments on how my hair looks. I am quite "shy" on Instagrambut I may post soon a picture of my hair so you can clearly see what they look like. I like using sulfate-free shampoos that are rich in conditioning and softening oils such as Coconut oil or Argan oil. Weekly deep conditioning is also an essential beauty step as it helps to detangle matted hair while preventing breakages or other damages. Coating my hair with a leave-in or rinse-out conditioner make them stronger, more manageable, and undeniably soft. What do you think? What are your top Fall beauty tips?
Before the summer, I came across a very cute british natural beauty brand via Instagram : Rosalena skincare. Rosalena skincare was founded in 2016 by Maya and Helena, 2 busy mama's turned beauty entrepreneurs. They gently sent me a trial package to discover their skincare line....And today, I am super excited to tell you what I think of 3 of their products!
The Goodness and Tonic Face toning mist (£22.00 for 50ml) The gorgeously scented face mist is a refreshing potion made with the addition of some the most aromatic essential oils such as Sweet Orange Peel Oil, Grapefruit oil and Bergamot oil. The scent is so gorgeous that I could mist my face all day long with it. The invigorating and vivifying effects are really noticeable and I just love how the ultra-fine toner quickly melts into my skin leaving a ultra-thin layer of moisture on the top of it. It is really lovely and refreshing and it is definitely a step I would not miss in my routine!
The Frank & Sense oil (£42.00 for 15 ml) This could be the ultimate face oil to boost a pale looking skins, to decongest tired skins or repair devitalised skins. The unique combo between some top linoleic acid rich-botanical oils (Safflower oil, Pumpkin oil, Evening Primerose oil or Grapeseed oil) with calmingingredients such as Bisabolol and top hydrating & regenerating molecules such as Hyaluronic acid and Coenzyme Q10 makes this elixir a perfect all-year round evening treat. The texture of the oil blend is absolutely divine: the oil melts onto the skin letting its precious nutrients and goodness sink into it. The scent is lovely and the packaging is also maxi- cute! A few drops on this golden elixir each evening and my skin wakes up happy and rested the morning after. The price is quite steep but this luxurious oil is totally worth the purchase despite the small contenance. Love it!
The lip conditioning balm (£18.00 for 10g) This is one of the cutest lip balms I have ever seen! With its waxy and nurturing texture, the petroleum-free lip balm softens immediately the lips while leaving a refreshing and cooling effect due to the presence of Peppermint and Lime essential oils. I use it every evening before bedtime. It is nourishing and repairing and just so good! I love the stunning Pink packaging as well. This is a big big favourite! The balm is also not cheap but ... what a winner!
All in all, Rosalena skincare is certainly my 2018 beauty coup de coeur. If you are looking for that special and luxurious skincare natural beauty brand that delivers awesome results, there it is!
I love discovering new products (who doesn't like!) especially when they come from my native country France. This summer, I have spotted many new products or products that went under a redesign from brands I usually use such as Melvita, B com Bio or So' Bio Etic. Today, I want to talk about 2 lovely bodycare products I have been reaching all summer and that really need to be discovered by all of you.
So' Bio Etic shower cream Argan & Neroli Blossom flowers (€ 4.00 for 250ml) If you are looking for an affordable sulfate-free shower body wash that gently cleanses and nurtures the skin, do not look further, this is it. The delicate and milky Argan & Neroli Blossom flowers emulsion slathers really well and gently dissolves all impurities to leave to skin soft and hydrated. The highlight of this shower cream for me is definitely the scent- it is absolutely LOVELY -calming and flowery and this is by far my favorite scents of all the shower cream ranges. So'Bio Etic is an affordable brand so if you do not want to spend too much, this is a great choice! If you are new to green beauty and want to introduce natural greener choices to the all family (including children), then I recommend you to check their whole range. You can also read a more detailed review HERE. I'm not too sure if all the products are available in the UK/US, but in case you take a trip to France, you will find them at any local supermarkets. Always nice to see that organic beauty can also be on budget!
BioSphere natural Delice Body milk* (€19.00 for 200ml) Biosphere natural is a natural beauty company created in 2011 by Dana. You can read her story here. I was sent the body lotion a while ago so I had basically all summer to use and abuse of the lotion. The packaging appeared at first a bit blend, but I did not let myself fool by it: the body milk is actually awesome- soothing, repairing, fast-absorbing, and non-greasy! I used it almost everyday just to nourish and it kept my skin supple after the long sunny days: it really did a fantastic job! Composition-wise, it features nourishing Cocoa butter and some softening botanical oils such as Sesame or Sunflower oils that bring vital lipids and nutrients to the skin. The scent is really subtle and pleasant, nothing too overpowering. All in all, I have been pleasantly surprised by the body milk Delice and really enjoyed using it. I would love to see a little packaging revamp in the future, I think it would had a bit of charm and strenght to the product.

If holidays seem already far away, the light sunkissed tan I still have reminds me of the relaxing (and not always relaxing- mummies will understand ;-)) time I had throughout the summer (aka school holidays). So, how do you care best for your skin after a whole summer of intense heat, swimming sessions and perhaps hectic diets? Read below the simple and easy beauty tips to have a glowing skin in September!
1- Gently exfoliate If you think exfoliation is too harsh or may remove your holiday tan, then you may think twice. In addition of smoothing the skin out by removing dead cells and impurities, exfoliation helps to uniformize the suntan while helping the skin to look fresh and glowing like a baby skin. Best is to use a gentle and non-abrasive scrub for the face and the body but make sure to not overuse it.
2- Generously moisturise Slather your skin (and any dry areas) with a body cream will not only keep it hydrated and smooth but it will also strench your tan survival time. You need a cream that locks the moisture in the skin while naturally replenishing rough areas. For your face, opt for a cream or an oil that is able to quench your skin while supporting its natural functions.
3- Daily protect The sunny months of July and August may be gone, but that does not mean you need to forget suncare and UV sunscreens. September can still have his fair share of nice weather! Needless to say, the skin needs to remain healthy and protected against UV exposure and this is why you still need to use a suitable SPF cream.
This summer was one of the hottest summers I have experienced in the Netherlands. Actually, all Europe was hit by "the" heatwave, isn't it? Anyway. So, despite being sweaty and dreading being in the water all day long, the other important thing for me was to find great suncare products to protect my skin against the sun rays. I had the opportunity to test 2 sunscreens*-the Eco Cosmetics sunspray 30 and the Green People sun lotion SPF 30and have thoroughly used and re-used them during the whole summer. Read below my thoughts about these 2 suncare products!
Housed in a spray tube, this sunspray is a gentle emulsion that massages well on the skin. Not too heavy nor too light, it glides without leaving a strong white cast. Silicon derivatives- and alcohol- free, the formulation is specially designed to protect sensitive skins against UV rays thanks to the Titanium dioxide/Zinc oxide duo it contains. What I really like about this product is that it is mess-free, broad-spectrum, super easy to apply, and leaves the skin hydrated without that heavy white cast. In addition to the mineral sunblocks, you can find Canola oil and Glycine Soja oil to nurture and soften the skin. All in all, I have reached the Eco cosmetics cream many days during the summer and I have been left quite impressed by its performance. I will definitely repurchase it.
Included in the suncare starter, the SPF 30 lotion is a scent-free emulsion designed to protect the skin against UV radiations. If your skin tends to be sensitive or reacts to strong fragrance, be reassured: this lotion is scent-free. The generous sample size (30ml) is ideal to get a great feel for the product and gives a pretty good idea of how the emulsion delivers in terms of results. If you look at the ingredient list, the formulation includes Titanium dioxide and Isoamyl P-methoxycinnamate. Titanium dioxide is a mineral sunblock protecting against UVB and short UVA but can't be considered broad-sprectrum. Isoamyl P-methoxycinnamate- also known as amiloxate is a chemical UVB absorber. Although the Green People blog has stipulated that the latter also blocks UVAs, I have yet to find scientific references/articles that support these claims. I have contacted Green People to comment about it and I am awaiting their answer. Application-wise, the lotion is quite quick to absorb and non-greasy plus "water repellant" which is always a bonus in summer. All things considered, the sun lotion is a great pick for anyone whose skin and nose are reluctant to strong scent yet provide an effective protection against UV rays.
Bottom line// While both suncare lotions did a effective job at keeping my skin protected and smooth, the trophy goes to the Eco Cosmetics sunspray for its great performance and its ease of application.
What do you think? Have you tried them? What is your favorite sunscreen?
