In a medical research institute 88 obese women were divided into two groups. Both groups received nutritional counselling and a diet plan which was deficient in 500 calories. One group had one particular spice that was added to their diet. The group that had this particular spice added to their diet lost more pounds than the first group and recorded an average of 14.46% reduction in their body fat compared to the group that didn’t have this magic spice in.
This magic spice is found in almost every Indian homeowner’s kitchen. It is jeera or cumin. Jeera or cumin has been used for thousands and thousands of years right from the homeland in Egypt to Mexico and to India. This spice has been used to treat illnesses and boost immunity.
Cumin is rich in phytosterols which are plant chemicals that have the ability of absorbing the bad LDL that you find in people who have high cholesterol. It has the ability of breaking down triglycerides and having them flushed out of the human body. When it comes to fat burn because of its high metabolic nature it has the ability to stimulate your metabolism. The stronger your metabolic rate the more weight you lose and you keep it off for a longer period of time. For example let’s consider two people. Person A who loses weight by going on calorie restricted diets and overtraining, loses about two to three to four kilos. The moment they go on a holiday or a moment they go off their strict diet they start putting that weight back on. This happened because they lost weight by creating a deficiency without changing their metabolism. When you eat less and you work out more you cripple your metabolism. Person B eats more, trains the right way. If he or she trains more then he or she changes their diet and they eat more to support their training. With this they build a stronger and a higher metabolic rate and they’re able to lose weight quickly, lose body fat, the right weight and not just protein and lean muscle and they’re able to keep it off. So they may get off their diet plan or go for a holiday and they may eat what they want. They may not lose more weight but they won’t gain any more weight. That’s the secret of having a great metabolic rate and cumin or jeera has the ability to stoke your metabolism.
There are people who have deficiencies in iron. When you jump for that iron supplement; sometimes you may need it but in most cases it’s toxic to your liver. It slows down your liver and creates constipation. These are all bad things for your health. Simply taking a teaspoon of jeera and mixing in it with water or adding it to your food or making a tea out of it has the ability to boost your iron levels even in someone who’s anaemic.
Cumin or jeera has powerful anti-inflammatory properties. So jeera is fantastic when it comes to people who have joint pain and who have arthritis.
Sleep is the most important ingredient for good health. Be it you have a disease or you’re preventing a disease or you’re trying to lose weight or you just want to feel good about yourself and about your day; you need a good night of sleep. Cumin helps to have a good sleep also. The ancient Egyptians prepared a simple tea by boiling 1 teaspoon of jeera seeds in water 2 hours before bedtime. They boil it in water reduce it to half and they sip this warm liquid before going to sleep. This is also found in our own Indian Vedas to promote good sleep. Nature takes time to work. So don’t try for two three days and then just knock it off saying it’s not working.
Cumin and jeera has its place in diabetes too. Most Indians know about this. You start adding a little bit of roasted jeera powder to your dals or to the yogurt that you eat post your meals or you simply have a glass of jeera tea about 30 minutes after your meal; this has the ability like cinnamon to lower your blood sugar levels. So if you’re going to do this and if you are on diabetes drugs already, be careful because sometimes this may make you hypo or make your blood sugar levels go too low. Jeera has the ability to reduce your blood sugar levels. This is a test for anyone who has diabetes. Thirty minutes after your meal make sure that you have a teaspoon of jeera in the form of a tea or add it to your salads or add it to your food and you’ll find that your blood sugar levels actually are better in control.
For the longest time jeera has been used as an immunity booster. You can give jeera to your children or add it to their food or make this simple concoction again. Add it to a little bit of water and let them sip on it especially when they have colds and their immunity falls because cumin has antibacterial properties which means it can fight out certain bacterias from the human body when it’s done in conjunction with your lifestyle.
This powerful spice also helps in curing digestion problems like flatulence, acidity and bloating. All you need to do is boil a little bit of jeera. You can add a little bit of ajwain to it which is bishops weeds or you can add a little bit of saunf which is fennel and you add these things together and you boil it into a simple tea. It tastes good and has a calming effect on the mind. It relaxes your digestive system and sometimes even the most chronic acidity tends to get better when you have this little concoction.
I have a simple recipe that you can use and this is something that all of you must try. You can just make it a part of your lifestyle. In the morning when you wake up you can have this simple herbal concoction. You take a little bit of grated ginger and boil that with a tablespoon of jeera. You can add a little bit of cinnamon and a little bit of a Elaichi but the base is grated ginger and jeera. Boil that, reduce it to half and strain it. Add a little bit of fresh lemon and try this as your morning drink. Do this for about ten days and just notice how you feel. Your cravings will tend to reduce throughout the day by having this tea. If you have a sleep issue at night I prefer to end the evening with this cup of tea as well because post your day when all your meals are done you want to relax your digestion, calm down your stomach and of course promote a night of good sleep. So you can try this concoction even then. Once in the morning once in a night. It’s up to you. If you don’t do it in the morning or night find someplace in your day to add this to your diet and lifestyle.
There is so much of medicine and wisdom and so much of magic in Indian spices and by far this is one of the most powerful spices. In most Indians if they’re having a balanced meal you will find that you already have more than a teaspoon of jeera in your daily food. So keep it balanced. If you’re adding a little Italian over here or junk or Greek and all of that stuff you will find yourself deficient in this spice cumin. So add it in various forms to your meal.
Just taking a teaspoon of cumin powder will not help you burn all that fat off your body. You got to add it to your lifestyle which revolves around your balanced nutrition, your adequate exercise, your quality and quantity sleep and of course your emotional and mental health.
Episode 80 - You Must Add this Magic Spice to your Daily Diet - YouTube
Castor oil is a remedy that our parents, grandparents and ancestors used for the longest time and it has innumerable health benefits that can help you with so many different things. What’s more exciting today is the fact that there is so much research showing the usage of castor oil and cancer. Now does this mean if you just take castor oil you’re going to get rid of your cancer? Absolutely not. But you need to understand that castor oil has the ability to boost your immune system. It can boost the amount of lymphocytes and lymphocytes are cells that help you fight out foreign invaders in the human body be it bacterial or viruses. So it boosts your immunity, it boosts your t11 cells. These are natural killer cells when it comes to cancer and so many other ailments and diseases. It increases the amount of WBC’s which is the white blood cells which protect your immunity.
All of us know today that immunity is the only thing that can protect us and that’s why we need to constantly invest in everything that boosts immunity. It’s not just food. It’s also exercise; it’s the way you sleep, the way you think, your emotional health and all of that. I always say that today if we get all of our parents depending on your age or maybe your grandparents for you or all of our ancestors and we put them in a room and we give them a medical problem, nothing like a gunshot wound or a surgery or something like that. You give them some stomach pain or a hormonal problem or a headache or a migraine or constipation and believe me this room of wisdom will come up with the answer, will come up with the right remedy because it’s always existed. You know we’ve handled things like fever and diarrhoea and constipation and migraines naturally using remedies and today we get the slightest symptom and we run off to a doctor.
The power of castor oil when it comes to constipation as well because when we take castor oil it gets metabolized in your small intestine and produces something called ricinoleic acid which produces a mild laxative effect in your colon and it improves our bowel movement. Not only that; it also helps to loosen faecal matter in our colon and flush it out completely. So usually you would probably have your mom and dad hold you and sit you down once a month and put that teaspoon or tablespoon of castor oil in your mouth because it worked like a laxative.
You know it was used for deworming your colon your system and today we run to all the other artificial medications and different ways to improve constipation all the time. Castor oil is antimicrobial and antibacterial which means it can clean out bacteria from our system and one of the biggest issues that we have in the country right now is gut issues. Our colony of good and bad bacteria is so messed up that we suffer from acidity, bloating, flatulence, inability to lose weight, poor skin quality, falling hair, dull skin and everything starts in the gut. 85% of your immunity starts in your gut so we should be doing something that supports our gut health every single day and castor oil helps you with your gut health by keeping it clean most of the times, removing unnecessary and bad bacteria from our systems.
I have a lot of patients and clients who are on my program right now probably wondering why they’re not on castor oil yet because I’ve been waiting for this day for this research to be confirmed and yes it’s going to be added to your diets very quickly. There is a direct link between your lymphatic system and castor oil. Now proven your lymphatic system is your body’s drainage system. If you have a poorly functioning lymphatic system you get backed up with toxins and most lymphomas which are a kind of cancer get produced in the body due to toxicity in the lymphatic system. It is now found out that castor oil improves and boosts the function of your lymphatic system actually increasing the amount of lymphocytes which again is a big part of your immunity to fight out bacterias and toxins and viruses from your body. So it’s boosting your immunity and it’s also boosting your WBC’s which is your white blood cells which again are these little soldiers in your body that fights out all the bacterias, pathogens, toxins and maybe even some of the viruses. It protects your cells and boosts your immunity. It enables the self defence mechanism of your body to work the way it was designed to.
So castor oil and immunity, castor oil and cancer, Castrol and diabetes and any health condition that you have including cardiovascular issues can be cured with this oil.
What else does Castor oil do? Arthritis and joint pain. If you take castor oil you warm it up a little bit mix it with maybe a little bit of olive oil or coconut oil or you don’t even have to mix it and massage it into the areas where you have joint pain, it gets absorbed into your system and it can actually reduce inflammation and the pain that you have. That’s why we rub it on the navels of babies and even adults when they suffer from acidity because there’s a lot of wisdom in applying castor oil in the navel and around the perimeter of the navel and that can actually reduce acidity and gas in a baby that suffers from it. So all these colic medications are things that just came up right now. Our parents and our grandparents handled it with simple castor oil and something called hing.
For your hair it’s one of the best oils for your hair. Be it dandruff, be a poor quality hair; pure castor oil on your hair. You can mix it with a little bit of olive oil or a little bit of coconut oil because those are great oils as well for your hair. Add a little bit of lemon juice to keep it alkaline. Massage it into your scalp and you actually have stronger hair, blacker hair and thicker hair and this is something that you really should try because it works.
For your skin for acne; most people would think that I can’t put oil in my skin if I have acne because my skin is oily. It doesn’t work that way. You reduce your intake of oil, but castor oil you put it on a piece of cotton and you dab it on your acne and your face where you have any acne issues and you’ll see this oil absorbs and starts working because it is anti-bacterial and that’s what also helps get rid of acne.
So when you look at the benefits of castor oil, it’s innumerable. You should pick up a good cold-pressed castor oil or a castor oil from the chemist and maybe start off with a teaspoon; a lot of people can’t stand the smell of it so hold your nose have some of it or mix it with a little bit of jaggery however it is that you get it into your system but it is extremely healthy for your children as well. Start your kids on it right now for their immunity, to keep their systems clean, to keep their gut clean, and to keep their bowel movement moving the right way.
There’s one tip although you must keep in mind, women who are pregnant because castor oil is dangerous for you. It can induce labour. It was used in the olden days to induce labour as well. So you should be a hundred percent sure that you’re not consuming castor oil when you’re pregnant; that’s extremely important.
Women with Candida or with thrush, these are all bacterial infections. Castor oil plays a very powerful role in reducing Candida. You reduce your Candida you feel less lethargic, you have more energy levels and it improves your ability to lose weight because bacteria, the wrong bacteria comes in the middle of weight loss. It becomes an obstacle. So technically that’s another remedy which has always existed in traditional India.
We have to start getting back to our roots if we really want to start getting healthy the right way. Like I say take a medicine if you need to but take it the right way and always make an attempt to work with your doctors to get off it safely by building immunity the right way so you don’t have to stay on a medication for too long. Today in the kind of world that we live where we have no control over the air that we breathe, the quality of air that we breathe, the water that we drink, the food that we eat and this constant emotional stress that keeps building up in almost everyone, the only way forward is building a strong immunity so that your body can survive in a world that is as toxic as it is today.
Episode 64 - You are Lucky if your parents fed you this Magic Oil - YouTube
There are a lot of parents especially in India who keep reaching out to me all the time concerned about their child’s growth in terms of their physical growth. So rather than looking at the foods that promote good growth, there are two or three lifestyle tips that we need to talk about that are currently the main reasons why children struggle to grow to that particular height.
So number one is inactivity. Today more and more kids are spending time in front of the television, Xboxes, video games and there’s so much of less activity in their lives. We need to understand that every time a child walks or plays or runs or jumps which is why when you see infants and they start moving in two toddlers they crawl and then they walk and they start jumping around they’re very active because you know the sole of your foot every time it touches the ground which means when you have a step forward when you walk forward or you jump or you move it stimulates your lymphatic system which also stimulates the production of human growth hormones. Growth in relation to height is all about HGH which is your human growth hormone. Very little of it has to do anything with protein. Protein is a macronutrient which is one of the building blocks of the human body but it doesn’t mean that if you have more protein you’re going to grow faster or you’re going to grow taller in fact giving a kid more protein than required will actually put oxidative stress on the kids kidney and make the body and ph level more acidic in nature which again becomes an obstacle to good growth.
A child’s body as well as an adult is designed to move. It is never designed to be stationary in one place for a long period of time and if you look at today’s life you’ll see that the life of an adult and shockingly the life of a child is becoming more and more sedentary in nature. So there is nothing to stimulate the production of human growth hormones which is why growth gets hampered. So that’s why we always encourage children to jump like the trampoline that’s a great exercise. It’s also called rebounding. Every time a child jumps the sole of the foot hits the ground there’s stimulation and activation of the lymphatic system and human growth hormones. So the more at your kids play the more that they’re active you stimulate human growth hormones.
The second thing is sugar. The amount of junk food and processed foods and foods filled with sugar and the wrong salt, including aerated drinks that young children consumed today is the reason why their growth gets hampered and let me explain how that works.
When a child or even an adult consumes in excess of sugar there’s a hormone called somatostatin that gets produced. Now somatostatin signals to the brain to stop producing HGH. Somatostatin signals the pancreas to produce less insulin which means higher blood sugar levels and the possibility of more fat storage which means again hampered production of HGH. So somatostatin gets produced in the body when there is too much of sugar and take too much of fructose. I’m talking about for fake fructose. I’m not talking about fructose from fruits.
So if you look at a child’s life today there’s inactivity and there’s too much of sugar; the very two things that hamper the production of HGH which is a human growth hormone. So no matter how much of protein you add to your child’s diet if there’s less activity and too much of junk food the whole equation is not in balance and the kid doesn’t grow and because something like somatostatin can stop the production of such an important hormone and can influence insulin as well as HGH, it’s also creating other damage in your child’s body which may hamper not only growth but also development of the mind and the physical self and hormones and that’s the same issue that we have with most children today and because it’s hampering insulin, a child has more and more cravings for the wrong foods which are filled with sugar and salt.
The third thing is recovery. A child should be sleeping for an average of ten to twelve hours. I’m talking from the age group of two right up to nine and ten. I need you to ask yourself how many hours of sleep does your child get. Most children sleep less than eight hours today and most of the growth, development, rejuvenation, repair of cells and hormonal balance happens while you sleep. When an infant is born they sleep for 14 to 16 hours a day because that’s the time the body is growing, the limbs are growing, muscle tissues are growing, cells are growing and that tends to increase and then it decreases at midlife and it increases again as we get older and older. So compromising on your child sleep just because you need to fill up his or day with extracurricular activities, tuitions, new language classes; you are compromising the growth and development of your child.
You work with it from a different approach. You first ensure that they’re getting their minimum of nine to ten hours of sleep and then you see how much of time is left in their day to fit in whatever it is that you need to fit into their day.
The fourth thing is stress. You may think that only adults go through stress in today’s lifetime but you have no idea how much of stress children go through. Right from peer pressure to being accepted to fitting in socially into friends groups, from being compared with other children, from the immense amount of competitiveness that schools promote and parents promote. That stress increases their cortisol levels which is a stress hormone that stays chronic and it impacts somatostatin, growth hormones, thyroxin, DHEA and testosterone. All of this is needed for a child to grow up into a strong and healthy person.
So again it’s holistic for children and for adults. That’s the danger of sugar. So keep it in moderation to make sure that your kids never consume it in excess because sugar is white poison which will create problems in your child’s development mentally as well as physically.
So remember somatostatin inhibits the growth hormones which is human growth hormones and insulin which impacts your child’s growth. So clean up their diets, get them to be more active, start working with them to reduce the stress in their life. A child’s body and mind is not designed to go through the stress that children go through today. So as parents i always ask parents to reflect are you doing it for them or are you doing it for you or are you doing it to feel good about yourself that you’re giving all and more to your kids. These are questions which are real and questions that you have to ask yourself without putting your child through the brunt of all these little mistakes which will contribute to poor health.
Luke Coutinho | Why your kids might not be growing right? - YouTube
It’s very important that we always choose the words that we use carefully and the words that we think of all the time because if there’s a word running in your mind all the time that’s exactly how you feel or that’s exactly how you become. When you look into the dictionary for the meaning of the word diet it’s nothing but the kind of food that you eat but today the word diet has been given such a negative attachment with every possible emotion when it comes to the social media, the magazines and everything that we read about someone’s on a weight loss diet, someone used a diet to change the way they look, someone used a diet to get over cancer or arthritis or diabetes.
But I think why we need to move away from this word diet is because when we think we’re on a diet we automatically think we’re on restrictions, we automatically think that we cannot have certain things, we automatically develop this bad relationship with food where we label bad foods as bad and all of that has a subconscious effect on your parasympathetic nervous system and your sympathetic nervous system. So the moment we hear negative words like ‘restriction’ or ‘I cannot eat that because I’m on a diet’ we start the generation of cortisol automatically in our body and all of us know the negative effects of cortisol being generated over and over again.
So the word that we need to move to is lifestyle and if you look at our younger generation today because we use the word diet so many parents are constantly talking about diets at home, children pick up the same thing. So all the time children today equate being on a diet with losing weight, they equate beauty with being on a diet, they equate muscles with being on a diet. But it’s far beyond that because we all know it’s not just diet that gets you to lose weight or look beautiful or put on muscle or even determine who you are, but our children are picking up that word diet because of what we speak in front of them constantly. So it’s attached with a lot of negativity and our children need to grow up thinking that food is energy and fuel to the body, food is survival to the body and there are good foods and there are not such good foods and there’s junk food and all the chemically laiden food that does damage to your health because your children have the ability to reason and to use logic. It’s us with our layers of fear and insecurities and all this all these pieces of information that we’ve picked up over the years where we’re blinded by all of this and we make decisions out of a space of fear and that’s never a good decision.
So I think we need to move from the word diet to lifestyle. We should be talking about what are the foods, what are the lifestyle changes that you’re making to eat better foods, what are the lifestyle changes you’re making to make sure that your diet has good carbohydrates, good proteins and good fats and then we change the whole culture of this weight loss and diet game, because if our kids grew up thinking, forget about just our kids, that you grow up thinking or you’re already at a particular age and you still believe and your mind is attached to that word diet and a piece of paper with some food written on and you think that’s going to change your health and your weight and your life, you are 100% mistaken. But yes we can encourage lifestyle plans and lifestyle changes when it comes to eating the right foods when it comes to doing the right exercises.
So for example what lifestyle change can you make when it comes to eating food? You can choose better quality calories, you can choose to under eat which is also bad you can choose to overeat which is also bad. You don’t need a diet plan for that; you need a lifestyle change for that. You need a lifestyle change to decide whether you should under eat to lose weight, whether you should overeat because you’ve lost control over your emotions and your cravings and you’re just blindly and mindlessly eating. You can make a lifestyle change when it comes to the kind of ingredients that you choose to put in your food, you can make a lifestyle change when it comes to choosing the kind of restaurant that you want to eat food or feed your kids with that kind of food, you can make a lifestyle change when it comes to moderation. You don’t need a nutritionist or a doctor or anyone to write down on a paper and tell you how much of food your body needs because it can never be accurate because no one has the power to take an account, the amount of energy that your brain needs, your digestive system needs, your emotions need. So you’re left with a paper dictating what you need to lose weight or look beautiful or put on weight and that blinds you from making lifestyle changes like mindfully eating, controlling your potions, selecting the right quality of your ingredients.
What lifestyle changes can you make when it comes to exercise? You can have this whole exercise chart that your trainer gives you. 15 squats today 3 sets tomorrow. Again it’s putting blinders on you. You only see that much, but when you make lifestyle changes; number one is your exercise program working for your body, is your exercise program making you feel good in your body and in your mind, is your exercise program making you feel energetic and not fatigued and wiped out. These are lifestyle changes that you can make when it comes to exercise.
What are the lifestyle changes that you can make when it comes to sleep? Again seven eight hours; we fix our mind at one number. But you should be looking at the quality of sleep, the depth of each cycle of your sleep, how you feel when you wake up in the morning are you still tired or are you rested and energetic. So many people sleep for eight to nine hours and they still wake up tired and there are people who sleep for five to six hours and they wake up energetic because they got the right quality of sleep.
What are the lifestyle changes that you can make when it comes to stress? I told you spiritualties also become a fad. Everyone’s running to chanting classes and yoga and pranayama and meditation. But they do not allow the learnings from those classes which are excellent and valuable to slip into their daily life. This means we lack practice. So what we’ve got in today is the habit of having a to-do list and ticking off everything. Like one hour workout done now I’m going to sit in office for the next nine hours and not move one work. I’ve cut down these amount of calories, removed sugar from my diet, I’m following this plan my nutrition is done for the day. No. You may need more nutrition according to the day that you’re going through, you may need more nutrition according to the weather, according to any ailment that you have. It’s dynamically changing because your body is dynamically changing. You may need more sleep if you’ve had a stressful day. You may need less sleep if you’ve had a less stressful day. So we got to be open; your body has the intelligence to adapt to everything around us; externally and internally; in your physical self and in your emotional and mental self as well. But you got to be aware to allow it to adapt it.
So let’s move away from the word diet to the word lifestyle which is more powerful and more positive and inexpensive and free. You can make one lifestyle change every month or every week or every day. That’s in your control.
I am against young children eating sugar because when a child is one year old, two years old, three years old and four years old, they do not understand the side effects and the bad qualities of sugar. So when you feed a child at that age sugar what’s happening is that brain is getting addicted to sugar which then determines and controls their behaviour. As your child grows up to an age where they can understand, they can eat a little bit of sugar because I know it is not an ideal world where they can be deprived of sugar completely but now you can explain. They have the opportunity to understand why sugar is bad and what it does instead of just telling them don’t eat sugar it’s bad for you. They can reason and understand far better than some of us adults. So now they will eat sugar but probably with more reasoning and logic and in moderation.
We should not underestimate the intelligence that our children have to reason to be logical to decide and even make decisions. We term them as oh don’t be greedy don’t eat so much. But you are responsible as you started that addiction in them since they were young. Now you can’t call them greedy and tell them not to overeat because you’re not working against their attitude, you’re working against their cravings that are coming from their brain which they are not in control of.
One tip for everyone to start losing that weight. Portion control; the most important thing no matter how well you exercise, how well you eat, if you’re overeating your food you will not lose weight. So if you’re trying to lose weight your next meal; lunch, dinner, breakfast; reduce your potion by 1 tablespoon. 1 tablespoon of rice, 1 tablespoon of your lentils, 1 tablespoon of your vegetables or whatever it is you eat. Just 1 tablespoon and if you still feel hungry physically, go ahead and eat more. The idea is not for you to feel hungry. You know that hunger is bad for you. Hunger means that your metabolic rate is falling and you don’t want to have that whether you’re trying to lose weight or whether you’re trying to stay healthy and build a strong immunity. But reduce 1 tablespoon at each meal. Eat mindfully, eat slower and you will find that that same portion is enough for you. You do the calculation. Do this for a week multiply the number of tablespoons less by the number of meals you have and I can guarantee you are losing weight and you will lose with losing fat as well.
Episode 40 - Why You Should Stop Using the Word "Diet" - YouTube
A nut and a seed in nature, that’s supposed to germinate and grow into a plant. But basically when a nut and seed and it are in its raw form and it’s not mixing with water it’s meant to be dry. This means only when a nut and seed mixes with water that’s when the whole germination process starts and the growth of a nut or a seed into a plant or into a tree. Nature’s natural defence mechanism is to protect the nut and seed in its dry form which means it cannot spoil. It holds possible and potential life for a new plant or a new tree.
Nuts and seeds are great for our health as they contain essential fatty acids, protein and amino acids and minerals. It’s one of the best raw foods that you could ever have in your plan. But we should be soaking these nuts and seeds.
Nature needs to protect the raw form of a nut or a seed. So it covers the nut or seed with phytic acid or it covers it with certain enzyme inhibitors or covers it with certain amount of tannins and that’s great for protecting the seed and when the seed falls into the ground or you put water onto it that’s when the water and the seed starts off the process of germination or growth. So until water hits a seed or a nut it’s basically protected.
When we consume dry seeds and dry nuts the problem that happens is enzyme inhibitors that are protecting the nuts and seeds may not be too good for our system. There are two kinds of enzymes; a digestive enzyme which has the role of breaking down food in the human body and metabolic enzymes which basically work with the biology of the human body. When enzyme inhibitors get into our system it binds on to certain minerals and vitamins that we have. So these enzyme inhibitors basically interfere with our enzymatic reactions in the body impairing digestion in the human body. It can be very heavy on our digestive systems. So that’s one reason why we soak our nuts and seeds so that we break away those enzyme inhibitors and it’s easier for our bodies and our stomach to digest and break down the nuts and seeds.
Nuts and seeds are naturally covered with tannins. Tannins are not a bad thing because we find tannins even in black tea in green tea. But tannins sometimes block the absorption of iron into our body. So if we have just had a meal or we are eating nuts for their protein or we are eating seeds for a variety of minerals, basically the tannins that we also ingest blocks the absorption of iron into our system. So that becomes a problem.
Nature covers most seeds, nuts and grains with phytates. Phytates are anti-nutrients. This means they bind on to iron, magnesium, copper and zinc in our colon. So we are consuming good food but we are not absorbing it. So we should wash away this phytic acid by soaking nuts, seeds and grains in water so that the phytic acid, enzyme inhibitors and tannins get washed away. Also by soaking nuts, and seeds you make the protein in a form which can be better assimilated by the human body. By soaking certain grains we also help them break down that very tough gluten which causes a problem in most people.
I recommend six to eight hours of soaking for grains and legumes. It could also be twelve hours in warm water with a little bit of salt or a little bit of apple cider vinegar or plain vinegar to break down all these chemicals so that when we ingest it we’re getting the best out of seeds and nuts.
Soaking certain seeds like pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds is very good because you’ll see that they even start sprouting post a night of soaking and that has so much of nutrition and better health benefits.
Dried fruits, dried nuts and seeds are stored in large warehouses all over and in India usually we have a lot of unhygienic conditions. We have rats and rodents all around roaming on these places and if they are taking like a pee on all of these things which are lying on factory and warehouse floors we are putting a lot of toxins and dirt into our system. So I definitely suggest washing and soaking your nuts. They taste better and it has a better nutritional impact in your body.
So make sure that you have nuts and seeds in your daily diet because that’s how you get raw into your diet. Cooked food is dead food. You are cooking food and killing all of the enzymes and most of the nutrition. So we should have a proportion of raw food that we get from fruits vegetables nuts and seeds. Fermenting your grains also increases the B vitamin absorption into your body.
Episode 30 - Why you Should Soak Nuts, Seeds & Grains - YouTube
Potatoes are a rich source of vitamin b6 which is essential and vital for energy and metabolism. It actually helps you convert carbohydrates into glucose and it also helps with the breakdown of protein into amino acids. These are smaller molecules which are more easily digestible and absorbed into your blood and into your cells. So although people say, it’s a carb and a starch, there’s nothing wrong with a carb and a starch if it’s getting digested and broken down the right way.
Potatoes are rich in folates. Folate is used by cells for the synthesis and repair of DNA, so it has everything good to do with when you have cancer or any other disease. So when you have the right amount of folates in your body it actually helps with repairing the DNA and the synthesis of DNA in your cells.
These are two reasons why you should be eating potatoes. Now potatoes become bad when you deep fry them because it absorbs too much of oil because of absorptive tissues in it and a potato becomes bad when you overeat it.
Anything becomes bad when you overeat including fruits including vegetables whatever it is. Remember the human body will use only what it needs for but for its functions. Anything extra it doesn’t need, is likely to get stored as fat or get stored as some impurity in the human body.
So don’t give up on potatoes. It’s part of our staple Indian diet. It’s also part of several diets around the world and people in the West and in Europe have potatoes at every single meal and it doesn’t cause a problem. So don’t be scared of a potato. Be scared of overconsumption, over eating and cooking it the wrong way.
Potatoes contains iron, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium and zinc; all of these components which contribute towards strong bone health. Iron and zinc found in potatoes leads to the production of collagen and collagen is absolutely necessary when it comes to bone formation.
We all know that you need to be on low sodium diet when you have high blood pressure. Also the more potassium you have it leads to the vasel dilation effect which can actually reduce your high blood pressure and potatoes are loaded with potassium.
As we know by now potatoes contain vitamin c, vitamin b6 and a lot of fibre which plays a role in reducing your bad cholesterol. So again you need to have the staple foods in your diet, so if you grew up eating potatoes, cook them the right way, eat them in the right quantity.
Another very important health benefit of potato is reducing inflammation because potatoes contain choline which actually helps with reducing inflammation in the body and another extremely important fact of choline is that it helps reducing the absorption of fat into your cells.
You can’t go wrong with nature; you cannot go wrong with potatoes. Eat it in moderation, cook it the right way.

I want to talk about protein and link it back to one of our staple foods back in India which is called dal chawal or basically a rice and dal. Well there’s this whole myth about protein and how much you need of it but what’s more important is the quality of protein that you consume every day. You see the whole media and market has us believing that the more protein that we have the more lean muscle we have, the bigger we get the more muscle we have. A lot of women believe that the more protein we have the leaner we will get and the fatter we will lose. Now that does make a little bit of sense because if you have good amount of protein in your body you can build muscle and you can build lean mass but it doesn’t always have to be quantity over quality. It is always quality over quantity because you see it doesn’t matter how much protein you have. What really matters is how this protein breaks down into amino acids in your body. So for example you may get 30 grams of protein in a scoop of any whey protein that you spend about three and a half to four grands a month and you may have a tablespoon of pumpkin seeds which has 3 to 4 grams of protein but quality protein with all the amino acids. Now that breaks down better in your body.
So why are we talking about protein because today building lean mass; I’m not talking about big muscle I’m talking about lean mass, having the right amount of protein in your diet is extremely beneficial. Not only does it make you look good and give you that muscle tone but the more muscle tone you have the higher metabolic activity you have and it’s all about metabolism. The higher your metabolism the faster you lose weight.
So overtraining and crippling you metabolism or under eating and crippling your metabolism or going on these starvation diets and crippling your metabolism gets you short term goals of about 3 to 4 kilos or weight loss, you’re all happy and then you put that weight back on because you never work on your metabolic activity. You see weight loss is not about just exercise and diet it’ about communication between your hormones. Are you giving your body the right energy it needs?
What more when it comes to sickness. You know how your immunity works basically when your cells fight diseases and viruses and pathogens and germs. What it needs is energy. It starts breaking down lean mass. Your white blood cells break down your lean mass and that’s protein because it uses protein to heal itself. Protein is the building block of cells. This means there are constantly cells dying and growing all the time. It needs energy. It needs protein. But it needs quality protein.
Our normal staple Indian dal and rice is one of the best combinations and one of the most complete proteins. What do I mean by a complete protein? There are 20 amino acids. Nine of them are essential. This means that nine of these amino acids our body cannot make like the other amino acids which means we need to get it from our food sources because our body cannot manufacture it. Now when you look at the combination of lentils which is your dal and rice it becomes a complete protein. So for example lentils have an amino acid called lysine which rice does not have and rice has all the sulphur based amino acids that lentils don’t have. So when you look at the Indian wisdom in food when we get down the ages the combination of a lentil and a combination of rice gives you a complete protein and let’s back this up. Take a walk down a village or visit different villages and you’ll see farmers, you see the men and women lean strong bodies. Their physical activity may be much more than what we do but what’s their diet? Their staple diet is lentils, grains and vegetables. They don’t have protein shakes or supplements or any of these things that we think we need to have a lean body and yet they’re so lean and so ripped eating carbohydrates, lentils and everything that we’re scared of.
So yes you should have that dal chawal in your diet. Now what’s important is variety. We’re blessed in a country which has so many different forms of lentils and legumes. Right from rajmas and chanas to our green moong dal to our yellow dals our orange dals and all of that. Look for variety because when you have variety you have different nutrients that one dal may not have and you get it from the other. So your simple dal chawal happens to be a very nutritious food. Now if you obviously compare it to that scoop of protein on some whey protein box it’s obviously not going to be the same but we got to start using our brain, start looking back at how farmers have such ripped bodies with their activity and a simple staple diet than us. We got to keep things simple. We got to go back to our roots and understand it’s about a complete protein, a quality protein and not just the quantity of protein.
Episode 56 - Why you should eat Good Old Indian Staple of Rice & Dal - YouTube
Not eating carbs at night, going low-carb all the time, having earlier dinners and keeping these very long gaps in between your dinner and your bedtime and we still struggle to lose weight. In fact people who go on low-carb diets or avoid carbohydrates at dinnertime, you may find that they lose about 2 to 3 kilos initially and then they start to put on body fat especially in their abdominal area. We’re going to understand exactly why this happens and why you should start eating carbs at night. Why your dinner should contain carbohydrates.
There’s a science behind it and when you understand I’m hoping and encouraging each and every one of you who are struggling to lose weight or build great immunity and have better energy levels to do this.
Even though times have changed and we have technology and everything’s changed, when you go back to evolution people hunted during the day. These were the hunters and gatherers for food and they usually had their feast or their main meal at night and that worked for them. Although today we’ve changed that. We all still believe in breakfast being the heaviest meal, lunch being the heaviest meal, and dinner being the lightest meal. That continues to be the same because we don’t work as much as people did in the olden days. We have cars, drivers, and servants and hence our physical expenditure of energy is far lesser. So dinner should continue to be the lightest meal of today. But when I say lightest we don’t make it light by removing carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are still required for weight loss, energy, moods, immunity and let me explain how that works.
Carbohydrates provide the working energy to all your muscles. Your muscles or your muscle tone requires energy because your muscle is required for you to burn fat. Fat loss is not about calorie restriction alone or just good sleep or high protein or exercise. Everyone’s been doing that for years and years and still struggling to lose weight. It is about the production of HGH, which is your human growth hormone produced by the pituitary gland and this HGH is what helps you build muscle which in turn helps you cut fat and burn fat and increase your metabolic rate so that your body is continuously burning fat throughout the day.
Your muscles get this energy from carbohydrates. Most people today prefer to have earlier dinners which is a good habit as long as you have carbohydrates in that dinner and when people go out for late-night functions and parties they either don’t eat at all thinking that they shouldn’t be eating at night. But if you don’t eat at night and you’re awake your body still requires energy because you’re awake at that point and if it doesn’t get the energy it requires it goes into famine mode and your cortisol goes up and the fat storage switch goes on.
You need carbohydrates before you sleep. Most people think that while you sleep your body doesn’t require much energy, but your body requires a lot of energy while you sleep to perform detoxification to revitalize your organs, regeneration, growth, cell repair. Your body get this energy from while you’re sleeping. It gets it from the carbohydrates that you ate at dinner time and if it does not get this kind of energy detoxification doesn’t happen the right way which means you’re left with more toxins and your body automatically holds on to fat or produces more fat to protect the insides the nucleus of your cells. Every cell has to be protected by a thin layer of fat which gets thicker and thicker you have more and more toxins in your body. Repair and growth will not happen without the right amount of energy which means your chances of having inflammation in your body is higher and when you have inflammation you have more acid which makes it a constant struggle to lose weight.
Metabolism happens to burn fat and that happens while you sleep. All your fat burns while you sleep never while you exercise. The process happens while you exercise but the actual fat burn happens while you sleep which requires energy for fat to burn. Energy comes from carbohydrates. If your body does not get energy from carbohydrates it starts breaking down your muscles. It starts breaking down your muscles first for energy and then fat. If you have less muscle you have more body fat if you have more muscle you have a chance of slashing down and burning fat more effectively.
When it comes to hormonal balance I always say weight loss and fat burn is all about communication between your cells and your hormones and hormone balance. You can have the best exercise program, the best nutrition program, the best sleep. But if you have a hormonal imbalance or incorrect communication between your cells you cannot lose weight in fact you will put on weight. So I’m talking about leptin which is your satiety hormone and ghrelin which is your hunger hormone. When you have carbohydrates at night your leptin is regulated which means your ghrelin which is your hunger hormones are on the lower side and most people tend to get cravings for food and snacks and sugary items at night and it’ll be these people who have cut down on their carbohydrates in the evening or through the day. So leptin is decreased and ghrelin which is the hunger hormone increases and then you can’t use willpower all the time. Willpower has a shelf life. It cannot win the battle against your biology, physiology and chemistry of your cells and your body. Which means these cravings will depress you or overpower you and then you end up binging. So it is so important for you to have carbohydrates at every meal breakfast lunch and dinner and if dinner is going to be the lightest meal of your day which it should it should still contain carbohydrates.
Sleep is so important for weight loss. If you’ve not had the right amount of carbohydrates in the night it can actually affect you sleep. An amino acid called tryptophan basically induces sleep but it needs to cross the blood-brain barrier and reach your brain for that it needs insulin. You get insulin when you eat carbohydrates. You eat carbohydrates and insulin gets triggered and this insulin breaks down tryptophan into serotonin. Serotonin helps you sleep and it actually helps your mood to be better. So your mood also gets impacted with carbohydrates. When you eat a high carb meal you feel sleepy because Tryptophan crosses the blood-brain barrier, gets converted into serotonin and makes you feel sleepy and sometimes it gives you that satisfied feeling, a good feeling. You feel good when you eat good food because serotonin makes you feel good. It’s a happy hormone. So you see you need carbohydrates even for your moods.
Carbohydrates provide energy to your brain. Your brain uses energy from the breakdown of carbohydrates which is why when people go on low-carb diets or no carb diets they’re irritable, frustrated, depressed and angry. Their moods completely change because their brains do not get the energy it requires from carbohydrates.
If you’re the kind of person who works out in the evening and you’re deciding to go low-carb post evening that’s the biggest mistake you make for your body for your muscles and for your fat loss and your energy level. After a good workout you need to replenish your glycogen and that comes from carbohydrates. If you do not have sufficient carbohydrates because you’ve decided to go low carb or skip on the carbs thinking that I’ve had a great workout it is actually going to backfire against you because now your body is going to start breaking down muscle and protein for energy and then fat and if your muscles do not have the right amount of protein they cannot grow and we all know the more muscle you have the less fat, the more fat you burn. So post workout you need to have the right amount of carbohydrates and what’s really important is the right quality of carbohydrates.
What kind of carbohydrates do you choose for dinner? There are good carbs and bad carbs. Your bad carbs are all of processed junk, white flour, white sugar. Your good carbs are your good grains like millets, brown rice or white rice or red rice. If you don’t have a problem with gluten, it could be a wheat rotis, buckwheat, millets. All of these are great complex carbs. Vegetables are good complex carbs as well your grains – good grains are good complex carbs as well all of this helps with weight loss.
The biggest issue we have right now is most people have a deficiency in B vitamins and what’s the importance of B vitamins. B vitamins help carbohydrates metabolize into energy. All of us eat carbohydrates but if we don’t have the right vitamins that can metabolize carbohydrates into energy then we have a problem and when you look people have deficiencies of folic acid today which is b9, you have a deficiency of b5, and you have a deficiency of b8, b3. We know that with the amount of hair fall problems that people have and of course b12 which has become a very common deficiency. So it shows that we are naturally low in B vitamins and so we cannot metabolize carbohydrates the right way. So we don’t blame carbohydrates as the bad macronutrient we don’t pull it away from our diet. We correct a vitamin deficiency. We have the right amount of B vitamins from foods or supplements if necessary and then we allow our body to break down carbohydrates into energy for our brains, for our muscles, for the repair, growth, immunity and for weight loss and metabolism. They make one drug for one ailment but one vitamin or one mineral can take care of over 50 to a hundred different problems. So we should always look for these deficiencies and try to correct them.
So please start eating carbohydrates at night and if you’re going to have late nights eat some food. Your body requires energy. Your mind thinks that you don’t require energy because if you eat it’s a myth that if you eat food at night your body will not digest it a right way and it’ll store as fat. That’s not true. It is true if you overeat. If you overeat anything the good and a bad you will have a problem with the storage of fat. Your body will store anything that it doesn’t need as fat. So eat a proper meal. Eat your carbohydrates, your protein and your fats equally at night. Your portion can be smaller but it has to be balanced and if it’s a late night you should eat but keeping that long gap.
Also if you eat too fast it creates more acid in your body that’s going be a problem too because in an acidic body it’s extremely difficult for you to lose weight or burn fat.
So change your mind set about carbohydrates. It’s the wrong quality of carbohydrates and the overeating of carbohydrates that creates most of the problems. Each and every one of you who are struggling to lose weight starts eating carbohydrates. Get off your low-carb diet and get on to a smart carb diet. That’s what’s going to work for your body, mind and immunity.
Episode 43 - Why we Should Eat Carbs at Night - YouTube
Do you eat healthy, exercise well and still struggle to lose weight? Do you eat healthy and still have poor skin and hair quality? Is the colour of your tongue pink or white? Do you bloat up easily? Do you go through indigestion, flatulence and stomach cramps? It could be the health of your gut.
Your gut is as important as most diseases begin and start in the gut and your immunity also starts in the gut. Your gut microflora is made up of good and bad bacteria. We need more of the good bacteria but most of us have it the other way around and that’s where most health problems stem from. The wrong ratio of good and bad bacteria
Probiotics are foods that contain strains of healthy bacteria. They have become a necessary part of modern nutrition just to offset the damage caused to the healthy gut bacteria by all the inorganic chemicals that we ingest in our food and medicines. Probiotics in the gut help numerous functions of the bodies such as digesting and absorbing certain carbohydrates, producing vitamins, absorbing minerals and eliminating toxins and preventing allergies. They also support a healthy immunity and we know immunity is everything when it comes to prevention and healing.
Unhealthy bacteria in the gut can manifest in many ways such as gas, bloating, fatigue, sugar cravings, nausea, headaches, constipation, diarrhoea and despite a healthy diet and exercise many people may even have difficulty shedding weight if the percentage of bad bacteria is high. Organic food has a much higher percentage of healthy bacteria than commercially available inorganic food because commercial pesticides, preservatives, ripening chemicals kill good bacteria in inorganic food.
In the past there were gut illnesses as well that reduced our good bacteria population. Those illnesses however came from natural sources like intestinal infections and to revive our quantity of healthy bacteria we would naturally increase our intake of fermented foods such as idli, dosa, mezzo tempeh kimchee, raw cabbage, cultured vegetables, pickles kombucha, nutritional yeast.
Now if you are not able to eat any of these above foods that I’ve just mentioned you can get a capsulated dose of probiotic bacteria from a good and proven source. It is important that bacteria reach the small intestine without getting destroyed by the stomach acids or the upper intestinal digestive enzymes on the way. For this to happen the capsule material should be made of proper composition such as organic vegetable cellulose. It is also important that the capsules are recently manufactured. This ensures that the complete bacterial population is still alive. Stocks that have been sitting on the shelf for a longer time have a much lesser percentage of live bacteria than what the capsule contents may indicate. It takes time to rebuild bacterial population in the gut. So sometimes you may have to take these supplements or eat these foods for six months to a year depending on how low your level of good bacteria is
Taking probiotic capsules on an empty stomach or at least an hour before a meal ensures they pass through the stomach quickly and reach the intestines in good condition. Remember combining them with meals makes them wait in the stomach for a longer period of time and the acids and other foods destroy it. A high percentage of the good bacteria may die in this process. So it should always be taken on an empty stomach. People who supplement with probiotics before surgery are less likely to have post-operative infections. In fact the use of antibiotics to treat all hospital-based infections decreases when someone takes a probiotic supplement.
Also get enough of fibre in your food daily as it is necessary to build strong probiotic colonies in your intestines. Cut back on foods having processed sugar since sugar feeds unhealthy bacteria; yeast and fungus in your gut. I carry a probiotic with me every time I travel I’ll have to eat food other than home-cooked food to keep my good bacteria bad bacteria ratio in place. Your gut is important look after it. Invest in keeping it strong and clean.
We all grew up with stuffs being in plastic. We never questioned that as we never knew about it. Our lunches and sandwiches were packed in plastic tiffin boxes and we grew up. But the problem is today why we need to get into all of these details is because we’re not living in a very clean world anymore. We’re living in a world of toxins everywhere. The water that you drink, the food that you eat, the air that you breathe, the clothes that you wear, the mattresses that you sleep on; these all contain toxins. The simple proof is you cut the placenta of any mother and you find samples of more than 300 or 400 toxins in the body of a pregnant woman. So your child is being born with toxins and is entering the world with toxins already. That’s the kind of world that we live in. Now we can’t change too much of that. But what we can do is start being aware of little ways that we can reduce our exposure to this toxicity because that’s going to go a long way in preventing disease as well as healing a disease if we have one and of course tackling the biggest problem which is obesity and losing weight. We have to understand that toxicity in the body will not allow you to lose weight no matter how well you eat, no matter how much you work out. If you have a toxic body, you have an acidic body. If you have an acidic and toxic body you struggle to lose weight and it becomes a breeding ground for disease.
It would be practically impossible for any of us to get plastic out of our life completely but the point is how much we can reduce it. Firstly we have to understand why is plastic so dangerous. The FDA has also admitted now that plastic when heated leaches around fifty-five to sixty different chemicals. So when you heat plastic; it could be heating food in a plastic container in your microwave or it could be adding hot food into a plastic plate or a plastic container; that heat starts leaching chemicals into the very food that you are about to eat and these toxins and chemicals from leeched plastic into your food mimic oestrogen and a number of other hormone and that’s what creates hormonal imbalance in so many of us today ranging from PCOD to ovarian issues, breast cancers, colon cancer, prostrate cancers and so many of them. This is why on certain cancer treatments one has to undergo hormone therapy as well. You undergo hormone therapy only when you have a hormonal imbalance which is caused by lifestyle or caused by the conventional treatment that you go through. So even at that level it is understood that you got to keep your hormones in balance.
Where do you find you use the most plastic for. Today a common tendency is when you have left over food which is on the gas; you just take that put it into a plastic container for storage. Now you either put that in the fridge or you keep it out, either ways it is leaching. You just need a little bit of heat to start the leaching process of chemicals into your food.
Now what is microwave safe? Microwave-safe is just a scam. Microwave safe means that that particular microwave safe bowl, which is also made out of plastic, just won’t get warped with the heat at one melt like plastic or will get disfigured. This doesn’t mean that it is not going to leach chemicals. That’s what microwave safe is. So let’s not be fooled with all of those words either ways. I’m totally against microwaves. You should be heating your food on the gas. You may think it’s going to take too much of time but it takes you just four to five minutes more than heating your food in a microwave and most people make the most detrimental mistake of standing and waiting for their food to heat up in the microwave right in front of it. No matter what anyone tells you about radiation, radiation is radiation at the end of the day. Whether it’s from your microwave or from your phone or from your Bluetooth device. There is something called EMF which is electromagnetic frequency and it does create problems when we are over exposed to it.
We are living in a world where even if I have to buy plastic bottled water it would be a Bisleri or some other brand. But we are talking about ways to minimize our exposure to plastic. So you can transfer that bisleri water into glass bottles or stainless steel bottles or copper vessels. Doing this is easy and inexpensive and we got to make this effort if we want to reduce our exposure to plastic. Start storing your food in stainless steel containers or glass containers.
In case of restaurant foods, one home delivery order in a week can negate all of your efforts that you have put in during the week to stay fit and healthy. You want your food quickly so home delivery food companies work on time. So it’s straight from that pan at a high temperature into a plastic container delivered right to your doorstep. Can you imagine the amount of toxins and chemicals that plastic container has leached into your food and then you’re sitting at home and eating that food? All of it is not bad because a lot of food companies use the right grade plastic. Like we know for sure that grade three and grade seven is the worst plastic for putting heated food in. Grade one, four and five is what you should be looking at. You don’t need to stop ordering food from outside but what you can do is ask the restaurant the grade of plastic being used. They are supposed to tell you as it’s their responsibility. So you have to ask them and if it’s a grade three and seven, you’re better off not ordering that food, go down to the restaurant, eat over there, let it be served in a glass plate hopefully and not plastic and eat it over there. But you should not have food out of a grade three and grade seven which is the cheapest plastic and most restaurants will use that to save on cost. So saving on that cost and making food convenient for you because it gets delivered to your doorstep, is robbing us off our health. So we got to be careful of that. Even at home, do not put hot food into a container immediately. Let it be stainless steel or glass. If you really must use plastic, let that food cool down completely. You got to remember that plastic doesn’t last forever. Every time you heat it or you refrigerate it you are causing it to disintegrate. So when you heat plastic or you cool it you’re causing leaching to happen either ways.
What are some of the points that all of these oestrogen mimicking hormones and toxins from plastic cause? One of them is low sperm count in males or low quality sperm. The biggest problem that we see rising in India today across all states is infertility. We need infertility clinics and infertility doctors no doubt for people who truly are infertile and cannot conceive. But today this has become a scam. Today young women and young couples don’t understand that they don’t conceive because of their stress levels. You can never conceive when your prolactin is high. One of the chief contributors to high prolactin is stress. So women and men need to understand that for planning a baby they need to reduce their stress so that their prolactin levels come down. But we want a quick fix and the next thing is your gynac is giving you a business card of an infertility clinic. You will be astounded to know the referral amount or Commission that a doctor gets for referring someone for an infertility treatment. You may want to give up your job and just start referring people to infertility clinics that’s the amount of money it is in commission. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t go to an infertility clinic. You go only when you’ve tried everything in the right way possible. We have got so many people who flied down to Singapore, who are infertile and they’re given all these treatments. They come down, we change their lifestyle, and we put them on the right path, the right food. They conceive in two to three months without having to do one of those treatments. Another thing that we do with these patients is we minimize their exposure to toxins especially from plastic. In three months we have their houses cleaned out of every possible plastic exposure. They start changing the way they drink from different bottles, the way they cook their food and as the toxicity decreases because of minimum exposure and the very fact that we’re detoxifying them through food, lifestyle and exercise they just conceive. It’s not magic. It’s the way the human body is designed to do what it does best if we allow it to and we support it to. So that’s about infertility.
In case of breast cancer we have most er positives. Again that’s oestrogen dominant where your cancer and tumour is fed by oestrogen. If you truly want to heal you starve the body from over exposure to oestrogen by minimum exposure to plastics and perfumes, by not being constipated because every time you are constipated you’re backing up oestrogen into your body and you’re literally feeding those er-positive cells and your tumour. We also have to understand we cannot rely on the medical community entirely and we have to make lifestyle changes and the way we eat, sleep, think and move because the treatment is not looking at that part of it. You can continue beating up your body with conventional drugs and treatments and also start killing the healthy cells and the other good healthy organs or you can choose to do the treatment and balance it out with the right nutrition, the right way of living so that the treatment can actually work better on you and that you survive with a stronger immunity and you make sure that, that disease does not come back again in the form of any metastatic cancer.
So many children today are born with allergies, skin issues and eczemas. That starts from the time the child is in your womb. If a pregnant mother is exposed to pesticides all the time through their water, perfumes and cosmetics; all of that is going into your baby and when your baby’s born they’re eating out of plastic bowls and containers. They drink milk out of milk bottles which are plastic. I really support glass bottles for that. BPA again is a scam as well. BPA stands for bisphenol which is a chemical. But it’s not the only chemical. So in a BPA-free bottle that you spent a little more money on, there are other chemicals like phthalates that also leach into your water and food causing as much of damage as possible.
So all of these are just media driven scams and if you really want to make a difference start moving to stainless steel or glass.
When it comes to schools children want all those fancy coloured tiffin boxes which are all plastic. I think the number one rule that a school needs to push forward to parents is that everyone eats in simple stainless steel Tiffin boxes. It has to be driven top-down because I’ll tell you what’s going to happen. A few parents are going to make their kids start eating in stainless steel and then you have all the other parents sending their kids with some frozen princesses and some other superheroes on their Tiffin boxes and then your kid feels like I want that and it’s not the kids fault. Certain schools have to stand up and have the guts to drive these rules top-down. Every kid who’s going to be in the school brings their food in a stainless steel container. There’s no shame in eating in a stainless steel container. Traditional India ate out of stainless steel plates, copper plates and metal plates. We shouldn’t be ashamed. Eating out of plastic is so disastrous. So schools should stop encouraging children. They should put a rule that you cannot eat in plastic containers. I don’t encourage a child to bring a glass Tiffin box or a glass bottle. But you have an option of stainless steel.
The next point that I have is how we can change. I went on Amazon because I still found I had plastic in my kitchen and ordered glass bottles to store my spices and everything. Plates are going to be stainless steel or melamine as well. My mother got us grew up on melamine plates and we believe for the longest time it’s healthy. It is. But the moment you start adding heated food, melamine and ceramic is fine but you got to remember the glaze that it’s covered with has inorganic heavy metals as well. So you should try to make a change to stainless steel. There are benefits of stainless steel. It becomes easier to clean as well. You need a little water and little bit of liquid soap and you clean it well. Today with most plates and more sort of plastics if there’s a little bit of detergent that you used to wash that stays on that plate and it gets into your food it can be extremely dangerous for you. It is so dangerous if your plates are not washed the right way. Now stainless steel is far easier to wash as well. So you can use copper, brass or stainless steel. Let’s start trying to reduce that plastic.
I also want to discuss about something that I commonly see across the country. People drinking hot liquids in Styrofoam cups or thin plastic cups. That happens on the roadside and in movie theatres. You have to understand that when you put a hot liquid in Styrofoam or plastic you are leaching chemicals into that drink and you are ingesting that drink into you. So if coffee is going to make you acidic because it’s acidic in nature now it’s not just going to make you acidic it’s also going to make you toxic.
For all of my clients who suffer from cancer in Dubai, in the GCC countries and countries where it’s hot, I constantly tell them do not leave plastic water bottles in the car especially in a desert country where you have water in a plastic container and that temperature can reach 48 to 50 degrees Celsius in your car. It becomes like an oven and then you open your car you sip that water you are just sipping in BPA and over 30 to 40 different toxins. Keep metal containers or just don’t be in the habit of keeping it. Just carry your bottle wherever you go. You get nice glass bottles with silicon plastic around so even if it drops mostly it doesn’t break. You can look at all of those options. It’s a one-time investment unless you’re careless and you keep dropping and breaking your glass bottles wherever you go. These are one-time investments that you have to do. So it’s usually that mentality where people say this is going to be more expensive. It is going to be a little bit expensive but is it worth the investment or is it not worth the investment.
