Here we are, 25 days into 2019, and I'm only just now posting my first Life Lately of the year!! Not quite sure how that's possible, considering January has been sooo long (it's crazy to me how it's only January 25th.) Today I'm sharing a bunch of snapshots from the past month and updating y'all on everything that's been going on... enjoy!
So I'll be honest... January is probably my least favorite month of the year. It's cold, everything is dead outside, Christmas is over, school starts back up... all in all, it's just kind of depressing. I've actually had a decent couple of weeks, but they've been very uneventful and I haven't taken any pictures. I hate not taking pictures because it means I have no content on Instagram, but for the past couple weeks I've been kind of uninspired. Can spring please hurry up and get here??
Hopefully that can explain why pretty much every single picture I've taken in the past month has to do with food, whoops...
I rang in the new year by celebrating with some of my best friends! It was a nice, laidback night and I loved getting to catch up with them!
A Shake Shack opened near me right after Christmas and I am proud to say that I have already been four times. I don't eat burgers but they have the BEST crinkle cut fries and milkshakes (my favorites are the cookies n cream and the black and white!). Bonus points if you dip the fries in the milkshake.
I tried a new-to-me restaurant in Fort Worth called Taverna, and if you're looking for a nice Italian restaurant, this is the place! I had their lobster ravioli (how can you say no to that??) and I also enjoyed their Nutella Cheesecake for dessert.
Now some other stuff that isn't related to food!
- I joined DECA a couple months ago and we had our distrect competition last week... I advanced to state! Wish me luck!
- We've had a couple tournament games for soccer but the first game of our season is tonight. To say I'm excited is an understatement. Aaaand that's pretty much it! Have a great weekend!
This past week has been absolutely jam packed. I've had two soccer games so far (plus a third one today and a fourth one tomorrow!), a DECA competition (I'm going to state!!), and loads of homework. I am so thankful that the three-day weekend is upon us... time to sleep in, eat some good food, and catch up on everything!
wishing i was at a coffee shop instead of school right now
Reading... InstaStyle by Tezza. I got the bestselling book for Christmas, and I've enjoyed flipping through it. I was a bit apprehensive that the book wouldn't have any useful tips (just the same 5 Instagram tips you hear all the time) but I've actually learned a lot, and the book is filled with lots of gorgeous pictures that really inspire me!
Buying... all of my money has gone towards food lately, but that's about it. I feel like we're in this awkward time period where winter's almost over so you don't want to buy any more sweaters, but it's just too early to buy spring clothes.
Listening... to my January Playlist! Check it out here.
Wearing... soft sweaters, leggings, and boots, aka my winter uniform :)
Eating... I really love finding a new recipe and taking time to make it, so for the past couple weeks I've been making lots of recipes from my favorite cookbooks. So far, I've made Mexican Chicken Pasta from my new Delish cookbook, Chicken & Dumplings from Magnolia Table, and a French Toast Berry Bake from the Purely Elizabeth Cookbook! So many yummy things happening around here! Have a great weekend!
For the past year or so, I've been toying with the idea of redecorating my room. I like my room now; however, I've had the same bedspread and color scheme since third grade and it's just not "me" anymore. Third grade me was into bright turquoise everything, fifth grade me loved making DIY room decor, seventh grade me was obsessed with monograms and Lilly Pulitzer everything, and all of those phases are definitely evident in my room. Tenth grade me is ready for something more simple, neutral, and sophisticated, and for the past year I've been keeping an eye out for home decor items I like. Today I'm sharing a mood board of all of the items I like, in case any of y'all are in the same boat as me or just like looking at home decor!
Pink Bedspread // Llama Pillow // Cream Blanket // Wooden Mirror // White & Pink Lamp // Wire Basket // Woven Basket My favorite color is light pink, so I want to have a pink bedspread surrounded by fairly neutral accents. I love this one from Urban Outfitters; it's very subtle and simple but still so gorgeous. I also think this llama pillow and this cream blanket would be fun accents on top of the bedspread! Storage wise, I love this wire basket and this woven basket to put random things in. The wire basket could go on one of the shelves on my desk (I am keeping my current furniture) and the wicker basket could hold laundry. Lastly, I think this white and pink lamp would look nice on my nightstand, and I love the idea of having a full length mirror so I can take lots of outfit selfies!
I've always loved the look of wall art: if I were to redo my room, I would definitely want to put a lot of wall art above my desk or bed. These two from Rifle Paper Co are so cute: I love the colors and fun designs! I also love the idea of having a wire saying above my bed - it's so simple yet so chic. I also think Urban Outfitters has a great selection of wall art! Obviously I wouldn't need all of the pieces I've put in the collage, but they're all too cute - I just can't decide! Lastly, I've been thinking about buying a letter board for a while now - I love all the witty sayings people put on them! I would definitely want one to go on my desk. Which one of these items was your favorite?
In today's world, there are so many things that we take for granted, and so many things that we assume as part of our daily mundane routine. We complain about doing these things, and we neglect the fact that we should be grateful that we get to do these things.
Take running, for example. Last year, I set a goal to run 300 miles. Day after day, I heard myself complaining, I have to go for a run today. However, what I should have been saying was, I GET to go for a run today.
There are some people who aren't able to walk at all, let alone run. Not only am I fortunate enough to be able to run, I am fortunate enough to have a nice neighborhood to run in, a nice pair of running shoes, and a phone that plays music while I run. I am fortunate enough to hear the music and see the sunset while I run, although there are some people that have never seen a cotton candy sky and never heard the melody of a song. Yet here I am, complaining about all these things.
This year, I am challenging myself (and you, too!) to shift my thinking and remind myself that everything I have is a privilege. I don't want to take anything for granted; I want to continue to find the joy in every little thing and appreciate all that I have instead of focusing on all I don't.
Instead of having to exercise, I get to exercise. Instead of having to wake up early and stay up late doing homework, I get to go to school and have an education. Instead of having to go to work after a long school day, I get to have a great job. Instead of having to clean my room, I get to have a nice room all to myself. When I look at all that I have, I have no reason to complain. At the end of the day, I have a roof over my head, I am healthy, I am surrounded by people I love... what do I really have to complain about?
Happy Friday! Today I'm back with another 12 things post - the first one of the year! I love these posts because I get to ramble and just share what's on my mind, and today's post is no exception - it's all over the place (but then again, when are my 12 things posts not all over the place??)
1. It's currently raining as I'm writing this and I'm so mad because if it was literally two degrees colder it would be snowing :(
2. I was sitting down and trying to plan content for the next month, and I have no idea what blog posts to write! What do you guys want to see? 3. This past week has been so fun because my dad and I have been trying to use up all of our coupons for free food that expired at the end of 2018, so we went to a bunch of random restaurants just to get a couple dollars off our food!
4. Speaking of restaurants... I found two new faves: Starwood Cafe (shoutout to my friend Ryleigh for telling me about this yummy brunch spot!) & Shake Shack (BEST fries and milkshakes!)
5. Last food one, I promise... I've recently fallen in love with Chicken & Waffles and now I am on a quest to find the best chicken & waffles in all of Dallas. So far, Thirsty Lion is currently winning.
6. This winter break has gone by so fast. I can't believe we have to go back to school next week.
7. I was at Target the other day and I saw they had rolls of wrapping paper on clearance - 60 cents for a pack of 4 rolls! What a good deal!
8. I've been feeling creative when it comes to Instagram and I've been playing around with a lot of new presets, edits, etc... what do y'all think?!
9. At Target the other day I saw a huge swimsuit display... it's crazy to think that summer will be here before we know it!
10. I had a latte for the first time yesterday and oh my gosh it was goooood. Now I really want one of those fancy machines that makes lattes for you!
11. I would love it if you would take this reader survey to let me know how I can improve in 2019! Looking forward to a great year!
12. My mom just told me that we're about to leave to go get brunch (HELLO chicken & waffles!) so I'm wrapping this post up asap :) Have a great weekend!
New year, new me... or something like that, right??
It's that time of year again... everyone is setting goals for 2019 and reflecting on 2018, so I thought I might join in on the fun! Every year, I share a list of goals that I hope to accomplish, but this year I thought it would be fun to look back on last year's goals, too.
I had four general goals for life: stop saying "like," run 300 miles, cut back on dessert, and take a picture or video every day.
I'll be honest: I did not focus on my vocabulary or my dessert consumption whatsoever. I think that when you have too many goals, it's hard to focus on all of them. I ate a looooottt of good dessert and I'm not sorry about it #noregrets :) I did, however, run exactly 300 miles this year! It wasn't easy and I definitely had to run a lot in December to make up for all the months when I slacked, but I'm so proud of myself for completing this goal!
I also did a good job of taking a video every day. I did skip a few days here and there, but I remembered the majority of the days and I put together this video of a second a day for a year. I love how it turned out and it makes me so happy whenever I watch it.
My four blogging goals were to hit 5k on Instagram, rebrand, shoot in manual mode, and improve my video editing skills.
I rebranded back in June (see more on that here), and it was such a good decision! However, that was about it... I experienced no Instagram growth whatsoever (something I really want to focus on in 2019), I didn't learn anything about manual mode, and while I did become somewhat good at editing videos, I feel like there is still some room for improvement.
Now... onto 2018!
I thought long and hard about what I wanted my goals for 2019 to be, and honestly I couldn't come up with anything that would encompass the entire year. I did, however, come up with a few things that I want to do in the next 365 days:
- go vegan for a week - get my driver's license (this needs to happen ASAP) - run a 10k - get 5's on all 3 of my ap tests this spring - read the Bible for 365 days in a row (currently on day 146!)
These are all items on my 101 in 1001 list, and I am hoping that I can cross quite a few items off my list this year!
I also want to really focus on growth this year: last year my Instagram growth was so slow, but I am determined to really focus on both the quality and quantity of my pictures. I also want to try to be more active on Instagram throughout the year - I feel like my activity on the app comes in waves sometimes, but I want to be more consistent. I would love love love to hit 5k followers this year, but generally I want to focus less on the amount of followers I have and more on my engagement.
I also want to become a part of the YouTube Partner Program this year: I'm so close to being able to start monetizing my videos, and I have tons of fun video ideas planned for the upcoming weeks.
Lastly, I'm going to leave you with my word for this year: laughter. 2019 is going to be the year of lots of memories, time well spent with friends and family, and lots and lots of laughter. I'm so excited for all of the good things coming in the next 365 days, and I just know they're going to be filled with laughter. What are your goals for 2019?
one of my favorite pictures of the year... pretty much sums up how i felt throughout 2018
2018 was, to say the least, an amazing year. I really can't even put into words how good it was... so I'm not even going to try. A picture is worth a thousand words, so get ready for a novel... because 2018 was a great one!

Welcome to the last Friday post of 2018!! It's so cliche, but this year really has gone by insanely fast. It's been such a good one (stay tuned for a recap post next week) and I am so excited for everything that 2019 has in store! This past month has been especially great; it's hard to be sad when it's Christmastime!
I'm not sure how obvious this is to you as a reader, but I feel like I've been really disconnected lately. For the past month, I've been posting daily on YouTube and because of that, this blog has shifted to the back burner. I was still able to create posts regularly, but I just felt like I wasn't as engaged with blogging as I should've been and my posts were not as good as they could've been. Now that Vlogmas is over and I'm going back to my normal schedule, I am excited to be more present here on the blog! It is definitely hard to be consistent across the board at all times: between my Instagram, blog, and YouTube, something is always slacking and I try the best I can to balance them, but it's really hard to be on top of all three during the school year.
Not really sure where that is going... just wanted to get that out there :)
Now, onto the fun stuff!
I have done so much baking (and even more eating) during the past month and I feel like I might explode... hopefully I can get back to a healthier diet in the new year (but then again, I just got this cookbook for Christmas, so we'll see.) That statement is very prominent in this post: almost every point I am touching on has to do with food. What can I say... I really love food :)
I hosted a Christmas cookie exchange a couple weeks ago, and all my friends each brought a batch of cookies to share. I really enjoyed getting to catch up with everyone and eat my body weight in cookies.
My best friends and I went to brunch a couple weeks ago and did a Christmas gift exchange! It was so much fun and the food was soooo good (we went to The Thirsty Lion, and I highly recommend the chicken & waffles.)
Two days later, we met up again to attempt to recreate Buzzfeed Tasty's iconic fudgy brownie recipe. I am proud to report that we successfully made the brownies, and they are probably the best I've ever had.
I went with my dad a couple weeks ago to go to Enchant Christmas, a giant Christmas lights maze + exhibit that has all sorts of cool Christmas lights and decorations! It was so fun and festive, and a great way to get into the Christmas spirit.
I didn't get out of school for winter break until the Friday before Christmas, so my family and I tried to cram as many festive activities as possible into the one weekend we had left. We went shopping in our town's historic district, shopping at The Shops at Legacy in Plano (featuring Sprinkles Cupcakes for dessert!), and drove around to look at Christmas lights.
We finished the season off with a traditional Christmas: a candlelit church service, an elaborate dinner, opening presents, and just a bunch of happiness! Christmas Day is truly my favorite day of the year - only 362 more days until it comes again :)
Happy Friday! We've made it... finals week is over and Christmas is upon us. This month has gone by so fast... I can't believe the Christmas season is almost over! I have one last festive weekend ahead of me, filled with shopping, baking, and gift wrapping!
Eating... allllll the Christmas desserts. My favorite is this eggnog cake. Please please please go make it, because it is the BEST thing EVER.
Reading... I finished Things Fall Apart, and now I am so ready to actually read a book for pleasure. Hopefully I can go to the library soon!
Watching... so much YouTube. Honestly, the biggest source of stress in my life right now is how many YouTube videos I have to watch: they just keep piling up since everyone is doing daily videos and I can't keep up!
Listening... to Christmas music!! I'm especially loving Ariana Grande's Christmas songs.
Loving... the magical feeling of Christmas that is in the air. That sounds so cheesy, but I genuinely love seeing Christmas decorations everywhere and listening to festive songs constantly.
Buying... I don't think I have purchased anything since the last time I checked in with y'all. All of my money is going towards purchasing Christmas gifts right now!
We are nearing Christmas and I am sure most of y'all have finished your Christmas shopping already... but if you're anything like me, then you probably procrastinate on getting gifts for people until the very last second :) Today I thought it would be fun to share some of the most popular items on Blissfully Brooke! I use affiliate links whenever I link a product or item of clothing, and that enables me to see how many people click on each link + purchase the items I've linked. I've included the most popular items that y'all have clicked on and purchased over the past year - so this is basically like a Readers' Picks vol. 2!
This wubby pullover was easily the most popular item on my blog + Instagram this year, and for good reason! I know you guys are probably sick of hearing me talk about it, but I wear it nonstop because it is so warm and cozy. My wubby coat from earlier this year was also really popular, and it just got restocked - hurry before it sells out again!
A lot of items from my Amazon Finds post were incredibly popular, namely this Corkcicle coffee tumbler (my mom and I love to give these as gifts!), this pink letter board, and this Classic Style book (on my Christmas wishlist!).
I included these Bell Bottom Jeans in my Mamma Mia outfit inspiration post, and they were another quite popular item. Bell bottom jeans have been a huge trend this year, and I think they are so fun and unique!
I featured my pink Vans in several posts this year, so it makes sense that they were another popular item. The exact style I have is sold out, but I've linked a similar one that comes in tons of colors.
I featured this chenille sweater in an outfit post a couple months ago, and y'all loved it. It is sold out in the color I'm wearing (here's a similar version, though!) but it's still available in yellow, blue, and black.
My most popular YouTube video was my iPhone unboxing, and I linked my phone case + popsocket in the description. Lots of people purchased those items! I think the color combination is so cute. Which of these items is your favorite?
