This is the best site for Christmas gifts, everything is so beautiful! These are a few of my favourite photo gifts that they offer, but if you’ve got a new baby in the family make sure you have a look at their Baby’s first Christmas gifts, they’re so perfect!
I adore their print products, they’re incredibly good quality and fantastic value. All of their products and prints are wonderfully simple and timeless. These are a few of my favourite bits, the calendar would be particularly fabulous as a Christmas gift.
Although they don’t have that many photo gifts I still had to include the incredible Sarah & Bendrix as everything they have is amazing. So if you’re stuck for ideas on what to get the little ones in your life then look no further.
If I spot anymore I will keep adding and if there are any sites that you’ve seen that should be on this list please do comment below and I’ll add them in.
New borns are so incredibly individual and I’m a firm believer that you can see our personalities from that very first day.
Some new babies like to sleep on their backs with arms outstretched, some prefer their sides, some just want to be on their fronts and despite laying them on their backs you’ll return every time to find them snuggled up on their tummies.
I feel it’s important to capture all of these unique details and incredible memories in your photos.
To photograph how your new born baby moves, from their legs, to their arms and their beautiful expressions.
If your baby was asleep for the whole session, or in set poses then I wouldn’t be able to capture all of these details that show your new babies personality.
So that’s why for my new born photography I chose to have babies dressed, usually in a simple white vest that will never go out of fashion and is what you’ll remember seeing them in everyday. And why I chose to photograph new babies naturally.
Simple, natural, beautiful new born photography.

Cake Smash Hemel is an odd title for a blog when you first think about it.
But I’m not bonkers I promise.
I’m simply a Hemel Hempstead based photographer who specialises in 1st birthday cake smashes, so the title just seemed to fit.
I adore how well received my style of cake smash is, not just with those in Hemel Hempstead (although I’m just around the corner for you guys), but by everyone across the country.
I do things a bit differently and although that was a risk, going against the norm always is, I’m so incredibly happy that there are so many other people who like this style too.
You see cake smashes are normally themed, or very bright and colourful.
Which is beautiful, but it just didn’t work for me.
I wanted the baby to be the focus and all of the other excitement I found distracted me.
So in my cake smash photos we keep things super simple.
Every session is held at my home photography studio in Hemel Hempstead, which is a lovely natural light filled room and perfect for little ones.
I keep everything very neutral and timeless.
From the room which is all white, to the clothing which I source from all around the world, the cake which is a mini tiered white naked cake, right through to the toys which are all natural wood and look beautiful in images.
We let your little one have the best time, playing with whatever toys they like, then we bring in the cake and finish it all with a little splash in the mini bath tub.
I also don’t pose, I’d rather capture your baby as they are, how they move, everything about them.
The result is photos of your little one with genuine smiles and true laughs.
Photos that capture every detail of them and a memory of the fun way you celebrated their 1st birthday.
If your little one is turning 1 soon then please do get in touch and I have some more information on my cake smash sessions HERE.
There’s a Facebook group called “Parents of Child Models UK” that is fantastic, it has so much advice & information. So if you’re serious about child modelling then definitely go and have a look.
Then I’d advise following the agencies that catch your eye on either Instagram or Facebook.
This means you can get a real feel for the agency, the types of jobs their clients book & the way they look after their clients.
For instance Zebedee management seem to have a really personal approach with their clients & write really kind, insightful posts.
I’ve also heard wonderful things about Tiny Angels model agency & know of a few people that would highly recommend them.
Time to think about the Pro’s & Con’s
Child modelling can be an amazing experience:
You’ll have so many awesome photos of your little one to treasure as keep sakes.
You’ll meet lots of new people & there’s a real community spirit.
It can be really fun and exciting for your child. Different places, fun things to do, new people.
& of course the money, which can build up your little ones savings.
But there are cons that should be considered before applying to an agency:
Lots of jobs only give very short notice for shoots & castings.
Children often get ‘pencilled’ (shortlisted) so you’ll sort childcare etc. but then your child could get dropped on the day.
It can be disappointing when you travel for a casting and then not get booked.
What do you need to apply?
So you’ve taken all of the pro’s & con’s into consideration & decided on which agency/agencies you prefer, what’s next?
At first you’ll just need to send a couple of colour snaps of your child, these can be ones you’ve taken or professional photos. The agency would then decide whether they’ll use these images for your Childs profile, or if a professional photoshoot is needed.
Ask the agency their terms – is there a charge to join? (sometimes there’s not a joining charge, but they ask you to pay £50-£100 for the required professional headshots/profile images that they book for you. What are their payment terms? (some only pay out twice a year, some pay out via cheque once the funds from the company/brand clear. What % commission do they take from each booking (this is usually between 10-20%)?
If your child doesn’t get accepted please never get upset or disheartened. If an agency has a child with a similar look to your own then they’re unlikely to accept your child simply on this basis.
& finally just a quick thank you to Danielle for all your help, you’ve been an absolute and complete star xx
Baby photoshoots, they’re a funny thing really aren’t they.
When I used to think of photoshoots I always imagined big flashing lights, lots of outfit changes and more props than I’ve ever seen before.
And all of that doesn’t really work with a baby.
The big flashing lights are frankly scary and no baby likes getting changed.
Yet this seems to still be the fashion for baby photoshoots.
But when I started out I knew I wanted to do things differently.
I wanted my baby photoshoots to be stripped back and the focus put back onto the baby.
Because lets be frank, the whole point of a baby photoshoot is to capture images and memories of your baby.
So I kicked out all the big flashing lights and decided instead to keep things simple.
A beautiful white room filled with natural light.
And I ditched all the jazzy props in favour of some simple organic wooden toys from Sarah & Bendrix.
I decided that my baby photos wouldn’t be about what baby was wearing and that keeping clothing natural, neutral and simple would mean that not only would the images be classic and timeless, but that we wouldn’t be annoying your baby with a million fiddly wardrobe changes.
My baby photoshoots focus on your baby and I capture images of your baby just as they are.
Every detail from their little dimpled hands, to the adorable ways they sit, roll, play or crawl.

Do you know what, it can sometimes be a bit of a dog eat dog world.
& that’s certainly true of photography.
Luckily I’ve met some of the nicest people you could imagine through photography.
But I do sometimes hear sad stories where a strange sense of competition, or perhaps jealousy has driven people to do strange things.
Well I say to heck with that!
If I can help a fellow photographer in anyway then yippee!
One thing I thought could be helpful is if I finally pull my finger out and create a list of all the vendors and suppliers that I’ve sourced my super cute bits for sessions from.
I’ve found some amazing bits while up all hours with my boys and regularly get asked where bits are from.
So here you are, a full list of all the lovelies that I have discovered.
I found the cutest little cake stand in 2016 & have adored it ever since. It’s super dinky and holds a 4inch cake perfectly. It’s by an American seller on Etsy called Pinkrosecottage and to see the listing CLICK HERE.
I found these letters via Instagram and immediately fell in love, they are so beautiful and amazingly well made. The seller (Love Letters by Tillie) is based in Australia and for her website CLICK HERE
Mini bath tub:
I use this in every 1st birthday cake smash and absolutely love it. It’s really sturdy which is very important from a safety point of view and is made of a resilient plastic so will last forever. The seller is Lux S and for their website CLICK HERE
It’s absolutely no secret that I adore everything Sarah & Bendrix sells. Almost all of the gorgeous wooden toys in the studio are from them & I honestly couldn’t recommend them more. To have a gander at all of the beautiful things they sell CLICK HERE
In Hertfordshire we are ridiculously spoilt with not 1 but 2 INCREDIBLE cake makers. They are honestly superb and I can’t recommend them more. So The Curson Cake House and Lotti & Lu, you guys really well and truly rule!
Fingers crossed this little list will be helpful and to all the awesome vendors I’ve mentioned, you guys RULE!
So you’ve been searching “family photographer St Albans” and trawling through no end of websites.
I bet you didn’t realise how many options there were and how confusing it can all be.
Plus when you have a family you don’t have the time to spend hours looking through all of the websites that appear under ‘family photographer St Albans”.
And that is exactly why I thought I’d pull together this mini how to guide on picking the right family photographer for you.
First we’ll start with the style of family photography you may be after.
Family Photography Style
This is as it says on the tin, you visit the photographers studio. For younger children it can be best to find someone with a home studio (which is what I have) as it’s a more relaxed environment and is less likely to scare them.
Studio photography has a more simplistic look that means your family is the focus and studio photographers tend to either specialise in posed family photography, or natural family photography.
This is when the photographer comes to your house / a place of your choosing and photographs your family there.
I love the fact that they capture your life as it is and in a place your while family is most at ease.
But this style may not be for everyone for example I’d worry about cleaning the house before the shoot and wanting everything to be spotless, plus you may prefer a more simplistic look.
There’s also the fact that not every house is lucky enough to have lots of lovely light and a lack of light can make family lifestyle photoshoots tricky.
I 100000% recommend outdoor family photoshoots when you have older children. It’s where you’ll truly be able to capture their personalities.
Letting them run free and have fun is awesome to see and even better to photograph.
My boys are 2 and 4 years old and I only ever photograph them outside.
The only challenge is the weather, however I’m of the opinion that if it’s windy fly a kit, if it’s cold wrap up and snuggle and if it’s rainy jump in puddles. Whatever the weather gives you on the day can create stunning family photos.
So those are the 3 main styles of family photography and once you know which you prefer it will make finding your “family photographer St Albans” so much easier.
I’ve included some examples below of the style of family photography that I specialise in.
I call it natural studio photography and it’s basically capturing your family in a totally natural, authentic way, but in the comfort of a studio.
