Herbalife Nutrition South Africa launched two new flavours in their flagship Formula 1 Shake Mix range. The new flavours, Formula 1 Café Latte Flavoured and Formula 1 Spiced Apple Flavoured. Are part of the brand’s new generation of Formula 1 flavours. First rolled out in November 2018 with the exceptionally popular Banana Cream Flavoured. This new generation of Formula 1 flavours are made with ingredients that are suitable for vegans, gluten-free, with 24 vitamins and minerals. The Formula 1 Café Latte Flavoured Shake Mix will replace Formula 1 Cappuccino Flavoured, does not have caffeine and is artificial colourant and artificial flavouring free. Also Formula 1 Spiced Apple Flavoured Shake Mix will replace Formula 1 Toffee Apple Cinnamon and is artificial colourant free. Formula 1 Shake Mix is Herbalife Nutrition’s flagship product. It has become synonymous with health-conscious convenience. It is an easy way for consumers to add protein, fibre and essential nutrients to their daily diet. Both the new Formula 1 flavours are available in 550 g canisters, with 21 servings per canister. When prepared as showed, Formula 1 Café Latte Flavoured and Formula 1 Spiced Apple Flavoured. Both have 17.7 g of protein, 4 g of fibre and 24 vitamins and minerals. Formula 1 Café Latte Flavoured has 931 kilojoules per serving while Formula 1 Spiced Apple Flavoured has 943 kilojoules per serving. MY REVIEW I have been trying both the flavours and truly love the Café Latte Flavour more. It is like having my coffee fix without the caffeine. Not a fan of the Spiced Apple Flavoured Shake. The flavour just does not sit well with me and on top of that I am a very picky eater. Like that Herbalife is adapting to the new age of selecting their ingredients very carefully. The consumers we have become more aware of what we put in our bodies. WHERE TO BUY Formula 1 is available exclusively through Herbalife Nutrition’s network of Independent Members. TFor more information on how to buy the products you can go here Herbalife Nutrition can be found online at www.herbalife.co.za, on Facebook @HerbalifeSouthAfrica, and also on Instagram @herbalifesouthafrica. In February I received a new product from Rubybox to test. I have been testing the new Nivea Perfect and Radiant Sensitive Day Cream with SPF 15 and has grapeseed oil for a while now and I must say the product has not disappointed me. The SPF 15 helps protect your skin against dark marks and premature aging. The product is free of colorants and perfume. HOW TO: Apply this none irritating cream every morning on cleansed face by gently messaging in small circles. Avoiding the eye area. The product recommends that you also use the Nivea perfect and radiant sensitive night cream and Perfect and Radiant Micellar 3 in 1 Cleaning water for sensitive skin to achieve the best results. MY REVIEW Loved the packaging white and purple (lilac like in colour), the container comes in the size of 50ml. It is portable and easy to travel with. The cream is white in colour and odourless. I enjoy trying out new products and that also means my skin would react either good or bad to the product. My skin has responded very well to the new Nivea Perfect and Radiant Sensitive Day Cream with SPF 15. I have not had any bad reaction and breakouts on my face, my complexion has really improved. The only thing has not seen much difference in is the disappearance of blemishes. Good morning, everyone!! It feels SO good to be publishing a blog post again after such a long time. Life has been hectic so to speak, no not really. I was just feeling extremely tired and exhausted. Late last year I became upset with becoming financial and debt free. I begin my journey to financial freedom. Therefore, I paid off and closed two credit cards and a store card. Needed to begin thinking about my children’s future and wellbeing and stop being reckless with my finances. I paid off off my two credit cards and a store card. REASONS WHY I PAID OF MY TWO CREDIT CARDS AND A STORE CARD Each credit card was charging me R50.00 every month for a service fee, which made it R100.00 a month for both, now multiply that by 12 months you get R1200.00 in service fees. That could be going into paying off other debt or into your savings account to build your wealth because let’s face it what are the odds of everyone winning the lottery. Just because you can afford to pay the monthly minimum needed every month, does not mean you have to have store cards for different store or credit cards. Bad debt inhabits you from building your own wealth and you really don’t get a chance to enjoy your hard-earned money. Honestly, I got into bad debt because all these companies were calling me and offering me things and at the time everything sounded amazing. Well, it was not. Over the years I have learned the art of saying NO THANK YOU. Saying no can really change your life when it comes to unnecessary debt. We need to educate ours about the differences between good and bad debt because not all debt is bad. It was so liberating to close those accounts under my name and felt like shackles loosened on my feet. I still have 1 debt left, which will now get all my focus and I aim to pay it off in a year. The sound of financial freedom is sweet and once you begin your journey. You will sleep much better. Remember, if you can’t afford to buy it cash, save for it. Having debt, it is like being in prison, that gives you the illusion of being free. Have you paid off any debt and how does it feel? I am not a financial advisor, just sharing my experiences and what I have learned from having debt and paying it off.
First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR! This year is a bit different for me because I have no New Year’s resolutions set. Only awesome attainable personal goals for 2019. I honestly don’t remember accomplishing any of my past resolutions. That’s why I am taking a different route this year. As of next week Tuesday is back to work for me . Must say the holidays just went by so quickly. Anyway, time waits for no one right. LET’S DO THIS! Here are my attainable goals for 2019: NO MORE DSTV Yes, I made the choice to stop paying for cable TV because honestly, we, well I watch way too much television. Also, I will be taking the money I used to pay for it to buy stock shares with it at EasyEquites. READ ONE OR MORE BOOKS A MONTH This will be attainable because I won’t be staring at the TV the whole freaking day on Saturday, just to catch up on weekday shows. I will have more time on my hands. START DEBT FREE JOURNEY Well, this started back 2018 and hopefully by August 2019, I will be debt free for good. More saving and less spending. My aim is to save and invest more from this year and break the cycle of debt. SPEND LESS TIME ON SOCIAL MEDIA I will be taking social media breaks to reconnect with myself and spend more time outdoors without sharing everything I see all the time. To be more present in the now. Spend more time with my daughter doing fun things and making more and new memories. MAKE SELF CARE A PRIORITY Between being a mom, wife and full time worker I am always left drained and spread too thin trying to be Wonder Woman. Time to take time for myself and treat myself to a spa treatment or a movie alone once in a while. Just have some me time. What are you awesome attainable goals for 2019?
Beauty Bulletin recently sent me a remarkable product to try out with my girlfriends. We were chosen to be part of a campaign for Gliss Intense Therapy with Omegaplex. I have heard of Gliss products before but never tried it on my hair until this campaign. Without further a due introducing the Gliss Intense Therapy with Omegaplex. My friends and I we each received 3 products which included; Gliss Intense Therapy with Omegaplex ® Shampoo 250ml (R52.99 per product) Gliss Intense Therapy with Omegaplex ® Conditioner 200ml (R52.99 per product) Gliss Intense Therapy with Omegaplex ® Structure Repair Treatment Mask 300ml (R89.99 per product) The Gliss Intense Therapy with Omegaplex range works to reverse damage caused by styling, heat and everyday stresses. The range helps to repair the bonds of the hair and reconstruct the innermost hair structure, thereby visibly revitalizing your locks and protecting it against future damage! TEST ON THE AFRO HAIR Tried the product on my natural hair, the Gliss Intense Therapy range made my hair soft and manageable, but the product did not make my hair shiny. TEST ON MIXED HAIR My daughter is biracial, so she has mixed hair African and Asian. The range loved my daughter hair so much. The reason why I tried the product on her is because she sometimes wants her hair ironed straight instead of curly. Her hair is manageable, tangle free, smooth and the bonus wait for it very shiny. My daughter absolutely loved the way her hair felt, and the results lasted for a week. TEST ON BRAZILLIAN WEAVE So loved testing products, I took this Gliss range testing a step further by trying it on my Brazilian weave. Wow the results were mind-blowing, my weave was all smooth, shiny and sleek. If you are a weave lover this product will leave your weave clean and shiny. Without compromising the quality of your weave. Smells amazing too. My final Impression on the Gliss intense Therapy with Omegaplex When a product performs and delivers like this the price tag does not matter. It is a product worth investing in. I will be buying the product again and will continue using it on my daughter’s hair and my weaves. #BlissofGlissSA #BeautyBulletin
Can you believe it, it is that time of the year again? The holiday season the time where we overspend of gifts and the Black Friday frenzy. I am going to talk to you about how to financially survive the crazy holiday season. We worked hard throughout the year to follow the budget and save just to let all that hard work and savings go down the drain. The decorations are up my daughter pointed them out to me yesterday. she loves Christmas and the whole buy 3 and pay only for 2 sales. She is only 9 years old. It is time to buy, buy and buy. The holiday season is the toughest to stay disciplined with our personal finances and the stores will be calling you now to start offering you credit left to right and center. It is temptation overload, but you can survive the crazy holiday season without debt. Here are some tips on how to financially survive the crazy holiday season; 1. Continue to live within your means Don’t buy gifts on credit, it is a bad idea that you will feel at the beginning of 2019. Continue to live within your means. 2. Have a holiday shopping list and double check it Just as you do your grocery list, make a list for buying gifts for your family. Having a list will help you set up a budget and will help you buy your gifts wisely and cost friendly. This will help you stay on your budget course without overspending. 3. Lookout for sales Remember not every sale sign is worth it and budget friendly. Again, look out for deals that my daughter knows so well buy 2 and get one free. Spend wisely just because the sign says its 50% does not necessarily mean it is, do your homework and make it worth your money. Make the Black Friday and Cyber Sales work for you not against you. Make an R100.00 a gift game to encourage not over spending money on unnecessary material things. 4. Create a Holiday Account This should have been done at the beginning of the year. Last minute holiday planning is costly and very expensive. You will end up paying more than you bargained for and go into that credit card you worked hard to pay off. Be smart about it and go on a holiday that you can afford alright. 5. Holiday Spending Money Are you planning to seek out paid entertainment outside your home? If you then set a budget that will last, you for the entire holiday season. Once your holiday spending money runs out seek free entertainment and events. 6. Have a Game Plan The holiday season is a time when people accumulate a lot of debt, which sets you back on your year-long progress. Have a game plan otherwise, you will be back to where you started, insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result. At the end of the day be grateful with what you have and what you can afford. Don’t worry about what the Khumalo’s are doing or going for a holiday. Have a budget, shop early and save more.
I received a wellness box from Nestle South Africa to encourage my family and I to choose wellness and incorporate it into our lifestyle. I honestly found the information provided on how to decipher food labels extremely helpful. Nestle shares amazing wellness tips with you below. Keep hydrated Start encouraging everyone in the family to drink a glass of water first thing in the morning, before breakfast. Pack water bottles, so that everyone can take one to school or work. Keep it interesting by adding sliced lemons, oranges or watermelon. Enjoy fruits and vegetables that have a high natural water content such as watermelon, oranges, cucumber or tomatoes. Eat more fibre As a family, enjoy wholegrain cereals such as Nestlé MILO cereal, oats or baked beans on wholegrain toast for breakfast Try including legumes where possible i.e. add hummus to sandwiches or add mixed beans to salad Provide fruit as snacks and at meal times fill half of everyone’s plates with vegetables or salad – aim to enjoy 5 veggies and fruits a day Limit salt, saturated fat and sugar Consider purchasing products which have the Heart Mark, such as NESTLÉ IDEAL Unsweetened Evaporated Milk. It’s a guaranteed way to buy food lower in salt, lower in sugar, lower in saturated fats, and higher in fibre. Ditch fast foods as these have high sodium and saturated fats. Instead, cook fresh balanced family meals which include vegetables, lean proteins and grains or starches. Skip adding salt when cooking. Remove the shaker from the dinner table and replace with fresh herbs and spices. Try garlic, no added salt tomato paste, lemon juice or vinegar to flavour your food. In sandwiches, use canned fish or cook a little extra meat or chicken when preparing your main meal, instead of deli meats as these have high salt and saturated fats. Limit sugary drinks and avoid adding more sugar to foods i.e. cereals. Reduce your portion sizes Help limit portion sizes by plating up your family’s meals. Remember that ½ plate should include vegetables, ¼ plate lean protein and ¼ plate grains/starches. Swop large dinner plates with smaller side plates as this can also help reduce your portion sizes Move more As a family try and commit to doing one fun physical activity together a week so that exercise can become more of a fun tradition and less of a chore. Choose activities that the whole family can get involved with, such as a hiking trip, a game of cricket at the park or going on a bike ride. These activities will not only help your families’ health but can also create life long memories. The wellness box included: Simple wellness tips* – with corresponding Nestlé products and items to encourage you and your family to live better. A heart shaped puzzle magnet – encourage your daughter to put the puzzle together and read out each piece to learn the great tips, it’s never too early to start developing healthy habits. Once completed, stick puzzle on the fridge as a daily wellness reminder. A delicious recipe for you to enjoy with your family – find recipe attached with image. Skipping rope- to help my family move more. Measuring Cup- to help with portion control. Trying to remember the first time I got my period and how it felt. Gosh starting to feel old. Being a mom of a girl especially when you start noticing things like breast tissue forming or discharge on their underwear. It’s time to make sure that your daughter carries a first-period emergency kit. My daughter is Nine years old and she is already wearing roll on because of underarm odour and started seeing that her chest is no longer flat. My baby girl is growing so quickly, and I am not ready for PUBERTY. Started worrying about her, getting her period at school and I won’t be there to help. Which inspired this blog post about how to prepare your daughter for their first period. In their school bag, keep a small pouch having a clean pair of spare panties and two sanitary pads, an extra in case their friend ever needs one. It may be silly to carry it for years but it’s better to be safe and prepared. Another thing you can do as a mother, is to teach your daughter how to wear a pad in case her first period comes while she is at school. Glad my daughter knows the difference between a pad and panty liner because she is always asking questions. One thing she is not keen about is pubic hair hahaha. The pad is for when my punana is sick and the panty liner is for every day use. Another thing is to talk about the changes that will be happening with their body from body odour to pubic hairs . Make them understand that it is part of growing up, and there is nothing you can do to stop all the changes. They should not be embarrassed about getting their period. Blood is normal regardless of where is coming from. Who they can talk to? It’s okay to talk to their girlfriends about periods, hearing other girls’ stories will help them feel normal about their period. The best person to talk to is your mum because come on let’s face it, you have had hundreds of periods after all that makes you an expert or sister or female figure in your life. Remember to talk to them about how often they should change their pad and how to dispose of a used pad. Make it a fun ongoing conversation not awkward. #Momofagirl #Firstperiod Love Mo
Breakfast is the important meal of the day because it gets you ready for the day ahead and provides your body with energy that will enable you to be productive. Eating a good breakfast helps you not to make some unhealthy purchases on your way to work or the gym. Being a working mom life can be hectic, between getting my daughter ready for school, work and packing lunch. As well as squeezing in some time for breakfast can be challenging. Here are 7 Benefits of Why is Breakfast an Important Meal of the day 1. BOOSTS YOUR METABOLISM Breakfast helps to kick-start your metabolism in the morning. Eating a proper morning meal and smaller portions, more often. Throughout the day will help to balance your energy and enable your body to more efficiently use the kilojoules available. Eating two large, heavy meals per day puts too much pressure on your body and will make you feel sluggish. It will make it easier to control your kilojoule intake if you have 3 main meals and 2 snacks. 2. PROTECT YOUR HEALTH WITH ESSENTIAL NUTRIENTS Breakfast should provide between 15% – 25% of the total daily energy intake and remember – it’s not just about having any breakfast – it’s about having the right kind of breakfast. It is also about providing your body with energy (kilojoules) and nutrition your body needs, including fibre, vitamins, and minerals. 3. HELPS CONTROL YOUR WEIGHT Skipping or eating a breakfast that lacks nutrients can make you more likely to reach for unhealthy, high-kilojoule foods later*. In fact, research shows that individuals who consume a good quality breakfast tend to have a better daily food pattern than those who don’t. 4. HEALTHY SKIN We all want a healthy looking skin to achieve having beautiful skin we need to start with nourishing our bodies from within. Drinking water and enjoying a good breakfast are two important habits which will help you obtain the needed nutrients for every organ and system in your body, and the skin is no exception. 5. POWERS YOUR BRAIN Improved mental performance, concentration, and mood** – three more reasons to enjoy a morning meal! Without breakfast, you may struggle to focus and are more likely to be irritable and tired. And don’t forget to re-hydrate after a night’s sleep too. Staying hydrated will also help you to concentrate throughout the day. 6. HELPS MAINTAIN MUSCLE Your body can only use so much protein at one time, it’s important to space out your protein intake throughout the day. It is important to remember that, protein is essential for developing and keeping muscle, and our body relies on the protein in our diet to help us do this. 7. LIFTS YOUR ENERGY If you did not know Breakfast literally means to ‘break the fast’ and helps to top up the stores that your body has used overnight to repair and renew our bodies. Vitamins and minerals contribute to the reduction of fatigue, meaning breakfast can help you avoid the mid-morning slump, which typically happens if you have skipped your first meal of the day. At Herbalife Nutrition, they believe that a balanced approach to nutrition is not about counting kilojoules and I personally don’t like counting my kilojoules. Nor is it about deprivation of your favourite flavours, or the elimination of food groups such as zero-carb diets. Whatever your goals, Herbalife Nutrition wants to help us become a better version of ourselves – able to look and feel as good as you deserve. Your recommended intake of the macronutrients, protein, fat, and carbohydrates should be consumed daily, along with micronutrients (vitamins & minerals), regular exercise and adequate hydration. Getting these nutrients from the right food and science-backed products are key to fuel your body. *Leidy et al. (2013).
